Aha! Gotcha! This Biotite sample (the tan thingy in the middle) has a Radiohalo (Pelochroic Halo for you Minerologists) which looks like a hole/ring. What is a Radiohalo? Basically, the Biotite trapped a radioactive mineral within it and the radiation damaged the Biotite Crystal Structure. TLDR: Ooh! Aah! Radiation Bad! Holes! Thin Section of Biotite in Cross Polarized Light (XPL) Decided to try my shakey hands at recording the changes in light from rotating Biotite Mica. I'll rig up some sort of improvements along the way to reduce shaking. What I like about Biotite is that it looks unassuming until you give it a whirl. Then you see the colorful lines pop out. There's probably a life lesson in here somewhere. Eh.
