i think it's so funny that Godzilla has a bunch of kids between all of the various continuities and i enjoy imagining they're all a part of the same household. for those unaware, i'll try listing all of the ones i can remember:
Minilla (Multiple Continuities)
Godzooky (the Hanna Barbara cartoon)
Baby Godzilla/Little Godzilla/Godzilla Junior (Heisei Era)
Baby Godzillas (the giant clutch of infant Godzillas in the 1998 movie)
Godzilla aka Godzilla Junior (from Godzilla the Animated Series)
Chibi Godzilla (Chibi Godzilla)
Chibi Minilla (Chibi Godzilla)
and all this is without counting the various clones of Godzilla, like Biollante and Spacegodzilla
imagine the chaos of this household

G-Clone Project: Gojera/Godzerra (April Fools)
Subject # 4: Humanoid Kaiju/G-Cell endowed atomic mutant/ "Kaiju Girl"
(image by Witchking00)
HEIGHT: 80 Meters
LENGTH: 180 Meters
MASS: 50,000 Metric Tons
Based on a project suggestion by roboticist Dr. Hideo Shida, creator of the 'RoboMusume' anti-Kaiju weapon during his last days before his passing. In the aftermath of Godzilla's (II) rampage throughout Tokyo, not only the city was doused in radiation but the Monster King left behind samples of its body. "G-Cells", christened by Dr. Genichiro Shiragami, are a rare and dangerous commodity sought after by multiple governments, organizations, and special interest groups all over the world. After witnessing footage of Godzilla's battles against other Kaiju such as Biollante, Ghidorah, and Spacegodzilla; Shida suggested a Kaiju-sized humanoid made from bioengineering. The UNGCC Council was hesitant, remembering the doctor's unorthodox "Bride of Godzilla" mech, how it violated Japan's anti-nuclear weapons policy, and the near-disaster that would've destabilized both the Earth and Hollow Earth if it weren't for RoboMusume's peculiar self-sacrifice. To bring legitimacy to his idea, Shida explained that the subject would have the might and power of Godzilla, but with the mind of a human being.
Miki Segusa spoke up about her concerns over this idea since she advocated for Godzilla to be left in peace ever since he adopted a juvenile Godzillasaurus and the plans of Mechagodzilla, MOGUERA, and Project T failed. Not to mention this was three months after Spacegodzilla's attempted conquest of Earth, a Kaiju-sized human being made those of the G-Countermeasures council uneasy. But Shida replied the possibility of this supposed soldier being an ideal improvement over Mechagodzilla as a defender of Japan and a deterrent to Godzilla. Days after this meeting, select bioengineering scientists began with the 'G-Cell Project', moving their resources to France.
By 1996, Shida had passed away due to old age, and it seemed UNGCC was on the verge of pulling the project's funding. That was until the Baas Island explosion and Godzilla's emergence as "Burning Godzilla", a nuclear meltdown that would've destroyed the world. The G-Cell team found themselves free of oversight during the crisis, as the appearance of Destoroyah heightened the danger. But, the crisis has passed with Destoroyah's rampage stopped and G-Force minimizing the damage as Godzilla perished. But, his leftover radiation transferred to the supposedly deceased Godzilla Junior revitalizing him and maturing him into a new Godzilla (III). With the future uncertain, a breakthrough was made with the G-Cells, the project was renamed the 'G-Clone Project'.
The New Godzilla lacked its father's hostility to humans but, the UNGCC wasn't going to take any chances, as they heard reports of another Godzilla battling an extraterrestrial known as the 'Gryphon' in the United States, unaware that it was what Monarch classified as 'Titanus Gojira'. Then, the monster known as 'Zilla' escaped its holding cell in France and rampaged in 1998, causing complications for every government involved. Many questions surrounded the Kaiju's appearance, as the French contingent of the project had gone rogue. Fearing that their pet project, 'Gojera', would be discovered, they ejected a large egg onto an island that had leftover nuclear radiation from atomic bomb tests in the 1950s. The egg laid dormant for months, until it hatched, revealing an abnormally large infant girl...with dorsal spines eerily similar to Godzilla. The infant fed on the radiation, having an accelerant growth similar to Godzilla (III) until she reached maturity in 2003.
Unfortunately, like Zilla, Gojera, or as Westerners would refer to Subject #4 as 'Godzerra', escaped containment and made landfall upon the coast of Japan, much to the surprise of everyone involved in the battle and witnessed it. Though she slightly resembled a human being, she had the ferocity and aggressive demeanor of any Godzilla, what made it worse was the young woman's genuine malice and enjoyment of the destruction she wrought. It was evident that communication with Godzerra would be unwise, as she seemed to revel in violence. Luckily, the UNGCC had created another anti-Godzilla weapon, launching Kiryu against the Kaiju Girl. Though it turned the tides in humanity's favor, it was clear that something about the mech set her off. As things seemed to be in G-Force's favor, Godzerra bellowed a defiant roar, making Kiryu pause. Seeing the mech's eyes turn from orange to red, she looked down at the gathered soldiers with an eerie smile, as if she knew what would happen next and turned back to the sea.
"Reap what you sow."
-A scientist translated from the Shobijin when Godzerra 'spoke'.
In horrifying reality, Kiryu was built around the skeleton of the 1954 Godzilla that attacked Japan and was killed by the Oxygen Destroyer. Some blamed a technical malfunction, others claimed that the Kaiju Girl's roar influenced the mech, and the Shobijin claimed that the spirit of Godzilla (I) lived within the bones. Overall, the latest anti-Godzilla weapon ironically caused more harm than Godzerra. After Kiryu ran out of power and was escorted back to G-Force, the UNGCC faced intense backlash internationally. Dr. Ishiro Serizawa of Monarch demanded answers, for both the explanation revolving around Kiryu's existence and Godzerra, the latter being verily outside of the Natural Order Monarch had studied for years. Many bioengineer scientists and researchers were questioned, as they could face jail time. Unfortunately, Godzerra resurfaced in Tokyo Bay, demolishing G-Force forces. As the Kaiju Girl marched closer and closer to the city center, the UNGCC Council and the Prime Minister had no choice but to launch Kiryu, believing whatever caused its malfunction was fixed.
The latest Mechagodzilla encountered the Kaiju Girl, resulting in an intense battle, appearing equally matched. Despite Godzerra's mixture of brute strength and human-like strategy, Kiryu gained the upper hand, wounding the atomic mutant with the Absolute Zero Cannon. While it failed to kill Godzerra, Kiryu did expel her, meaning humanity finally had a sure means of fighting back against any Kaiju. But, one year after the battle, Mothra returned to Earth, the Shobijin warning that the first Godzilla's bones must return to the sea for it was blasphemous to use them as a weapon. Takaaki Aso, former G-Force commander and the Prime Minister at the time, stated that too many resources had been sunk to scrap the project now. But, the Shobijin ensured that Mothra would defeat the atomic clone, despite Aso's doubts and remembering the 1992 battle against Godzilla (II) that claimed Battra's life. Soon, Godzerra returned to Tokyo, heading for Kiryu's hangar but was intercepted by Mothra. But, due to her time in space, the divine moth had reached old age; making her outmatched against the Kaiju Girl.
Unwilling to let Mothra fight alone, the G-Countermeasures Council ordered Kiryu's deployment; while Miki Segusa used her telepathy to contact Godzilla (III), fearing the situation's escalation. Despite being outnumbered, Godzerra proved to be a match for both the mech and the moth. Until Godzilla's arrival, who was curious about this being before engaging in combat. Despite the Monster King's strength and power, the Kaiju Girl lived up to G-Clone's original aspiration of creating a being to best their primary foe. Before she would kill the King of The Monsters, Mothra used the last of her strength to take the Atomic Breath for Junior, being set ablaze and exploding. Enraged at his 'sister's' callous reaction to the Guardian Kaiju's death, the saurian gained a second wind and the battle turned in his favor.
As the battle dragged on due to Godzilla's determination to avenge Mothra, G-Force units with Kiryu Mechanic Yoshito Chujo charged into the battlefield to repair the mech. With repairs completed, the Mechagodzilla joined Junior in the fight, turning an even battle to the favor of Earth's Defenders. But, Godzerra, revealing with cruelty, unleashed her own Atomic Pulse, unleashing Spiral Blasts upon Godzilla. Hearing the current Monster King's pained cries, the first King of the Monsters' spirit awakened within Kiryu, blasting the Kaiju Girl away. Unwilling to see such carnage between members of his species, despite the mutant's unnatural origins, Kiryu grabbed Godzerra and flew out to sea, sinking the two monsters in the Japan Trench.
The battle was finished but was declared a hollow, pyrrhic victory, with Tokyo in ruins once more, Mothra dead and Godzilla barely returning to the sea before collapsing due to his injuries, going into a healing hibernation. Finally seeing his grudge against Godzilla as folly, Aso ordered the Kiryu project to be officially scrapped and funding to G-Force cut in half. Since then, the UNGCC and G-Force are now a shadow of their glory days in the '90s and 2000s. However, the G-Clone Project secretly holds the DNA of multiple monsters, including Godzilla, to create more clones in case other Kaiju emerge. As for Godzerra, it took years for her to break Kiryu's grip, re-emerging in 2016, months after the rampage of 'Shin'. Godzerra had taken up residence on the mysterious 'Monster Island', isolating herself from the other Kaiju. Declaring the rather empty title of 'Queen of the Mutants'.

I remember one of your early urban kiju arts is about Heisei holding baby Biollante was supposed their father right?
Yeah! Because they both were from the Heisei era. However as the AU took shape, I had different plans for Heisei Godzilla…. Evil plans

Literally zero shade or judgement from me over here, but when I saw you post about kaiju ships I went: "Wait, that's a thing??" before remembering I'm on The Internet (and Tumblr for that matter). Cool!!
What's a ship you like? I wanna hear about this whimsical new shipping world I've been blind to.
Hello wof moot let me guide you through the kaiju-centric part of my brain!!!
My definite favourite is Mothra x Biollante, I’m not sure how much you’d actually know about these little guys but I’ll give you a very brief rundown of them. Mothra is a kaiju who protects the world and environment from threats and lives on through her children whenever she dies. This version of her from the 1992 movie I see as a bit more socially aware and chipper than her other versions, she cares about how everyone’s feeling and does her best to keep everything positive. Biollante is from the 1989 movie Godzilla vs Biollante, taking place in the same movie continuity that Mothra’s from, although the two don’t actually meet. She was a human woman who was killed and then revived into a monster by her grief-stricken scientist father, and thus has lots of shit to work through. Her actual feelings are kept fairly ambiguous in the movie, but I think Biollante struggles a lot with learning to love herself again, while also having a very hard time remembering who she used to be and what happened to her.
Essentially, Biollante gets to work through her trauma with Mothra and the two get to be girlfriends, yippee! Biollante is very flustered and sheepish about her feelings for Mothra, while Mothra isn’t exactly bold, but is more open about how she feels, even if both of them are figuring it out. I very much like them for the sort of cute hurt/comfort ship dynamic they have going on, it’s just my favourite cute little yuri couple, and they’re the two I’ve drawn the most.

I'm Back
Remember when I made those monster categories and said I'd test them out? I went out and looked for some monsters from various sources to try and categorize, and my system mostly holds up.
Here's that post btw, TL:DR the categories were Natural, Extraterrestrial, Paranormal, Artificial and Deific
Reporting my findings, source by source:
Pokemon are mostly what you'd expect. Mostly Natural, a few Paranormal, extraterrestrial and Artificial and a handful of Deific.
There were a few interesting cases I found all in the same vein, where the Pokemon appears artificial or supernatural but is organic
Digimon isn't all that complicated past the initial concept, they're interdimensional beings who can only exist in digital form outside of their home dimension, so they're all Extraterrestrial.
Classic Movie Monsters are once again pretty simple for the most part, but things unexpectedly started to get a bit complicated here.
Dracula, The Wolf Man and The Mummy are all paranormal, Frankenstein adds Artificial to that and the Gill-Man is completely Natural. Surprisingly it was the Invisible Man that threw a wrench into the works, his story is he developed a chemical that rendered him permanently invisible, which I initially made a judgement call on and placed into Supernatural.
Toho is where my earlier judgement call would have to be made again, and where I initially considered making a new category. A lot of weird monsters come from here.
First, a few of the easy ones. Mothra has some vague details in her backstory but it's pretty clear she's either Paranormal or Deific. Jet Jaguar is a human made robot so he's Artificial and Mechagodzilla is a robot of extraterrestrial origin so he's Extraterrestrial/Artificial and many others such as Gigan are simply aliens.
The guy Goji himself, as well as several other monsters such as Biollante and Orga, however, brought up the same issue as The Invisible Man. My phrasing of Paranormal in my previous post was simply "things that should not exist", which ends up encompassing these monsters in a way I didn't really expect.
Godzilla and Orga are monsters who started off much more ordinairy before being mutated in differnt ways, and Biollante and The Invisible Man were intentionally mutated. As a result, I'm considering adding a new category for creatures like this:
Mutant
An otherwise normal creature that has been altered in a significant way, usually ending up as something completely unique
I'm still not sure about this as a category, and I may also change the description to exclude Cyborgs, or the name to better include them, which the description I wrote is vague enough to encompass.
Yu-Gi-Oh also introduces a new complication, though this one's pretty easy to sort out. Specifically, many of its monsters exist in many states which vary the monster's categorization.
The first stage that includes just about every Yu-Gi-Oh monster is the in universe and IRL card games, in which the monster's categorization heavily relies on the card's flavor text if it's present, and must be intuited if not.
The second stage which includes very few monsters is the in universe origins of the monsters depicted on the cards, which don't vary as much as they work very similarly to Jojo stands or Personas from the Persona series. They're mostly supernatural, with exceptions including the Egyptian Gods, who would be Deific.
The same separation concept exists in Scooby-Doo funnily enough (maybe it's a hyphen thing), where there's the perceived nature of the monster, for instance Space Kook being an alien or The Phantom being a ghost, and the creature's true nature as a regular human, which I guess would put them under the Natural category.
Scooby-Doo will occasionally subvert this trope by having the monster being real, such as Charlie the Robot being an actual robot or the Zombies in Zombie Island being real. There are many examples, though the series has been going on for so long it's still relatively underutilized. Other than that it's usually straightforward.
I still need to see if "Mutant" is even necessary, and if it is it needs to be reworked, but my system held up surprisingly well.

Kaijuverse
General Info
- The multiverse is in a peaceful truce, Error and Ink aren't fighting, Dream and Nightmare are working on improving their relationship(brotherly, no ship there(no hate if you do, just won't be in this story)), and things are recovering from the constant fighting that was happening only a few months ago. (Also as a side note, Geno is not stuck in the Save Screen anymore, and kept his immunity to Reaper's death touch cause I said so.)
- But then the Creators(aka me, but for the sake of the story, it's the Creators. Also the second thing I'm using from the Titan!AU) decide they want chaos and handpicked certain characters that are either aware of or are able to travel to other AUs to be able to transform into Kaiju.
- It happens at the same time, so the chosen monsters are simultaneously going to transform, but it the process does take a while.
- But, for their first few transformations, they can't control themselves in their Kaiju forms, acting completely on the Kaiju's instincts. Although it slowly gets easier to become more aware of themselves and control their new forms and powers, they won't be able to control when they transform at all.
- After they transform back the first few times, they only remember a little of what happened, but after some time and them becoming more aware during their transformations, they can remember more of their time as Kaiju.
- After their first transformation, they take on certain features of their Kaiju form(ex. horns, claws, dorsal spines(fins?), etc.(debating between letting them have wings/tails as well)).
- If one of them dies as a Kaiju, they would only turn back to normal, though in some pain and exhausted. They are also harder to kill in their normal form, if anyone were to try to kill them.
- The kaiju's eyes depend on who is in control, their eyes are the same as the original kaiju if the one in charge is the kaiju, or if their instincts are fighting for control, and the eyes are the same as the monsters' if they are in control.
- Regardless of the one in control, they can't speak any language while in their kaiju form, they can only communicate through the way their kaiju would communicate.
- The timeline the monster turned kaiju is in can't reset until the kaiju has either left or turned back(and even when the monster has returned to normal, they will still be passed out for a few days after, regardless of reset). The universe they're from also won't be able to reset until they have returned to their universe.
The characters and the kaiju they turn into:
Error -> Godzilla
Ink -> Kiryu(Mechagodzilla)
Dream -> Mothra
Nightmare -> Battra
Killer, Dust, and Horror -> King Ghidorah
Blue -> Anguirus
Paps(US!Papyrus) -> Rodan
Reaper -> Destroyah
Geno -> Burning Godzilla
Fresh -> Megaguirus
Farm -> Biollante
Cross -> Gigan
UF!Papyrus -> King Caesar
Classic Sans -> Baragon
There are three stages before the cocooning stage that prepare them for the transformation.
Stage 1:
- They are slightly more clumsy than normal, but otherwise don't notice this for a while.
- Their senses are heightened/more sensitive. Their bedroom light could be almost painfully bright when it's usually not, something that smells a bit bad now smells twice as bad, etc.
- This stage only lasts two weeks.
Stage 2:
- Their Souls start building up magic by producing more and storing it. This is needed for the cocooning stage, and the amount needed is much more than the monster's Soul can make itself. So the Soul starts absorbing any ambient magic in the area. It doesn't drain any other monsters' magic, only the magic that's in the air, or otherwise known as residual magic. It is just magic that comes off any monster or human Soul into the air, kinda just unnecessary magic that was already used(or something like that).
- The magic buildup causes the monster to become warmer, and their joints faintly glow from the amount of magic stored. It gets gradually brighter the more magic is stored, and how much of the bones start glowing also expands from just where the joints meet(ex: At the start, the elbow, shoulder, and wrist joints will faintly glow, but near the end of the magic buildup stage, their whole arm will be glowing. So basically their entire body will be glowing by the time the third stage starts. It's not really all that bright, though, the faint glow is barely noticeable, and the brightest it gets is just enough to have them be noticeable in near darkness). Same for how warm they get. For most, it only gets very warm.
- The monster also gets much hungrier, needing more food to keep up with the increased magic production, and since monster food is also magic, it also gets absorbed into the ever growing magic storage. The monster never feels full or satisfied no matter how much food they eat. While it's never to the point that they're starving, it requires them to eat more than they normally do per meal, more often than not, they will just eat more often throughout the day, but sometimes they will have larger meals to try to keep up with their(at first perceived) heightened metabolism.
- Their Souls, in need of only storing up magic, will prevent any unnecessary use of magic, which is anything that isn't just keeping them alive and moving. This means that they won't be able to use magic attacks or activate any abilities that requires magic.
- Near the end of the second stage, their Souls will have stored up four times what is normally stored up. The Souls never grow in size to accommodate the amount, so it's all just very concentrated in the Soul. So the monster will feel immense pressure in their Soul, causing them to be uncomfortable, feeling like their Soul is about to burst, but it's not a risk to their health. Just very uncomfortable.
- This stage takes the longest at one month and two or three weeks, it can fluctuate a little bit.
Stage 3:
- They start feeling exhausted all the time, like they're not getting enough sleep. Eventually they pass out in a coma-like state. No one can wake them at this point.
- This stage lasts for two weeks, give or take a day.
Some specific symptoms for certain members:
- For Nightmare, his goop becomes more solid and heavy. He becomes a bit more lethargic in response to this. It only amplifies the exhaustion that the third stage causes.
- Killer, Dust, and Horror are a unique case, as they all share the same kaiju. At the start of the second stage, they all start sharing moments where they'll all say or do the same thing in unison. At first it's kinda infrequently, but as the second stage progresses, it happens much more often, and for gradually longer times. It's not quite caught on to others that this is a symptom of the transformation, but them all playing pranks until a few transformations later. By the halfway point of the second stage, they are always seen nearby each other, rarely leaving each other's side. They're almost always in physical contact with each other, too, holding hands or shoulders, leaning on each other, etc., and start sleeping together. By the third stage is when people start to worry the most during the first few transformations. They start fusing together in whichever way they slept on each other. It's a couple days into the third stage when it starts, their clothes are the first thing that seems to just stitch into each other. Then any physical contact they make starts to stick to each other, requiring a lot of effort to remove them from each other, but is impossible to do so after a couple of days. Sometimes it's more awkward for them to move, sometimes it's easier, and sometimes it's near impossible for them to move depending on the positions they end up in and they have to stay bedbound. It starts becoming super disturbing as they start to fuse further into each other, not just sticking to each other. It's not unlike how the amalgamates look in terms of being fused together. Their mannerisms and personalities also start bleeding into each other, so despite their exhaustion in this stage, they can certainly be dangerous.
- Horror goes through a hard time the first few transformations with the second stage, specifically with the hunger part of it. He's more desperate because of his past issues with starvation and constant hunger. He was doing a lot better when Nightmare helped him, but this caused him to relapse into how he was in his AU. It gets easier for him after a few transformations as he learns it's caused by them.
- Ink, with his lack of Soul, has all the magic stored in his ribcage instead, and near the end of the second stage he feels like his ribcage is being pushed outwards from inside. He's probably the most tame of these unique transformations.
- Geno is also going to have a hard time with his transformations, since his Soul is only a ninth of what a normal Monster Soul is. So the amount of magic he needs to store is much more than what his Soul could normally handle, as the amount is the same as the others with normal Souls(if not more, cause Burning Godzilla is overflowing with energy, so he likely needs to store even more energy than most others). So proportionally his Soul is holding what could be seemingly twice as much magic as the others at the end of the second stage. Because of this, he is going to be feeling pain almost throughout the whole second to third stages. He also will feel very hot, instead of just very warm, both because of which kaiju he becomes, and as that much magic in proportion to the size of his Soul is more compacted than others, and his joints will glow brighter than everyone else's. He's just not going to have a good time in any of his transformations.
Cocooning Stage
- Shortly after they have passed out, there is a grace period of an hour where whoever is with them can move them somewhere, though for the first couple of transformations, it will likely be their own bedroom(for those who have someone who is not going through the transformations that live with or visiting them). When they have not been moved for an hour, the cocooning process starts.
- It starts with a barrier forming around the monster, it's almost completely transparent at first, and is oval shaped. It will attach itself to the ground/floor to prevent any movement from interrupting the process.
- Over the course of the next month, it grows in size. Depending on what kaiju the monster is turning into, the barrier will stay the same-ish shape, or become more egg shaped. It also becomes more opaque and denser after the first couple of days.
- If the cocoon is forming in a house, the cocoon will inevitably destroy the house, and will first collapse the floor if it's on the second or higher floors when it's big/heavy enough. Depending on how close the next house(s) are, this could damage or destroy that house(s).
- The cocoon will either stay white-ish, start taking on the kaiju's colors, or in the case of Mothra and Battra, take on the colors of their eggs(there is no official Battra egg, so I will come up with it).
Kaiju Transformation Length
- The monster will be in kaiju form for 2 and a half months, so long as their kaiju hasn't died prior to the end of it.
- For a summary of the full timeline on how long the whole thing takes, it's this:
1st stage: 2 weeks
2nd stage: 1 month and 2-3 weeks
3rd stage: 2 weeks
Cocoon stage: 1 month
Kaiju stage: 2.5 months
Post Kaiju stage: 5 days
That's what I have so far, and I think that's all the main info I have. I haven't thought of their design yet fully, but I'll get there when I get there.
Just gonna tag @develation because their Titan AU is the inspiration for this. (Also, I noticed that there were more similarities to your Titan!AU than I thought. I just reread the story where Cross first turns into a Titan yesterday and noticed the similarities with the magic storage and some of the other symptoms. Granted there are differences as well, like no partial transformations before the cocooning stage, but still just want to check if you're cool with it, but I can change some things if needed.)
#dragon talks#kaijuverse#i may not ever draw that part but the one with Killer Dust and Horror is definitely more body horror than any of the others#implied body horror#ask to tag#i don't know what else could be an issue so feel free to let me know what other tags this needs#godzilla x utmv crossover

Ok so I’m here with my question!
You have mentioned these Guardians? What do they do? What are their roles?
Megaguirus is canonically a villain, but it seems like you have made her a hero? Why so?
Is Mothra in this AU? If yes, is she a Guardian too?
Same two questions as in the previous one, but for Manda.
Is Godzilla in this AU? If yes, what is his role?
Is Biollante and/or SpaceGodzilla in this AU?
That’s all I have in mind rn! :)))
I have mentioned the other guardians in the “Universe headcanons and establishments” posts, Hydiodae and Grisdel are supposed to make BloodFox’s universe more unique in a sense. Also, in the post I made revealing BloodFox for the first time, I said that the kaiju who later became Kesshō had powers regarding crystals similar to SpaceGodzilla. These deities are similar to the Monsterverse Titans and/or the GMK continuity guardians, they protect the balance of the planet. Grisdel doesn’t really like humans, though.
I chose Megaguirus because canonically she is a one-off film villain. She is very underrated and I just thought it would be cool if the other insect queen was in the spotlight.
I have thought about Kaiju like Mothra or Biollante for Guardian roles and even villain roles (you know, swap them around). I’m still figuring out how to interpret them into the dark war-ridden world of BloodFox’s universe. I may need a little help…
Omg Manda! Mmmm… as Hydiodae is a Universe original, I haven’t thought about the marine kaiju that the Godzilla universe has… I see him as what Tiamat was in the Monsterverse comics. Maybe, like a rival or something… Man I’m actually surprised that people remember Kaiju like him, like when I saw Final Wars for the first time (and as my first ever Toho Godzilla movie I’ve seen) and I saw Manda, it was just like: AYYYE-
Talking about the big G, BloodFox was a Godzilla OC that frequently changed continuities, even to Gamera for a moment because I couldn’t pick which one until I went for the decision for a original universe for BloodFox. Maybe I can figure out a way to get him in.
I really hope these answer your questions well…

Heisei Godzilla Short Reviews
The groupchat has been going through the Heisei Godzilla films and we're near the end, so I figure I might as well offer my thoughts on them. I keep trying to write longer posts for each movie, but getting distracted and failing - so the emphasis here is on short thoughts.
The Return of Godzilla: I'll be honest, we skipped this one. Godzilla returns and the flying gunship Super X-1 shows up in the start of the ultratech arms race that runs through these films.
Godzilla vs. Biollante: First time the psychics show up. The ultratech development goes to the Super X-2, another flying gunship, and a whole subplot about godzilla cells (take a shot!) and a godzilla-based "Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria" that might destroy all nuclear weapons. I like Biollante's design, plant kaiju are fun and it's got neat godzilla influences in its biology.
The funniest part of this movie is in the spy thriller subplot the evil spy is actually very effective at his mission but his plans keep getting derailed by Kaiju attacks. He'll be 90% free from the cops and then a kaiju steps on the highway and makes a traffic jam, it's great.
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah: I remembered this film being confusing when I saw it as a child and guess what, it is! Not only is this "The Time Travel Movie", it has some pretty baffling character motivations and actions, and a focus on some Future Gadget Stuff that doesn't really do much for the film. Do we need a scene of jetpacks, or an extended trip to 1945? This film features the brazen assertion that nuclear explosions turns animals giant, and also has a privately owned nuclear submarine full of nuclear waste.
While the Futurians are cool as a concept their organizational lead goes from secretly plotting to use King Ghidorah to blow up Japan to using King Ghidorah to save Japan for no clear reason. You can feel the director straining against the gimmicky kid stuff in the film. At least the villain death is cool.
This film marks the first of several where there's just so much shit going on they don't really have time for any mystery about the kaiju, which makes me sad.
Godzilla vs. Mothra: Battra is in this movie and makes a strong impression, with its first appearance as a worm consisting of it rapidly beelining to destroy the highest number of buildings possible. Character wise, our male protagonist's funny quirk is that he's an adventure archaeologist who doesn't pay his child support, which is...a choice.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II : Rodan is in this movie for some reason, and Baby Godzilla too. The ultratech has moved on from flying gunships to giving the anti-godzilla task force a Mechagodzilla, naturally, but also an "old busted" up flying gunship Garuda that hasn't been seen before. I like the use of non-japanese actors for some of the bit roles at the anti-godzilla task force.
Again there's probably too much stuff in this movie, but it also has this funny situation of the film not seeming to know if Mechagodzilla is an evil bully or a strong hero saving us from Godzilla.
Funniest moment of the film: a stolen prehistoric plant has a psychic recording that the telepath kids take off it and put on a casette tape, and when the tape is played stuff happens. The Plant - > cassette reformatting process is the zaniest thing to happen and they gloss over it in about two lines.
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla: Some godzilla cells got into space (either on Biollante or Mothra) and then (no evidence is provided for this assertion) 'fell through a black hole, came out a white hole, and created Space Godzilla'. The Godzilla suit looks nicer and SpaceGodzilla has a great suit too, though I wish we got more wondering about the ecology of SpaceGodzilla's crystals that start growing all over the place.
After Mechagodzilla got beat up in melee last film, the military made MOGUERA, which has drills. Sure. There's a baffling subplot about a UNGCC guy Yuki who I cannot figure out his position, and a scientist who wants to use telepathy to mind control Godzilla. Between that, the psychic kids now being psychic teenagers, and the mecha, the world is terrifyingly close to Evangelion happening.
#honestly makes me miss the gamera trilogy's more restrained military tech#and the sense of wonder and mystery around the monsters#that said I do like seeing the recurring elements of the series#'oh its our friends from the UNGCC again'#qedmirage watches movies#godzilla#this is like my fifth time trying to get tumblr to let me post this

Quick Hits #1 - The Land Before Time, I Used to be Funny, Godzilla vs. Biollante
Okay, if I’m going to keep doing this with regularity, and use it as the journal it was intended to be and not a half-assed review blog, I really have to let myself do incredibly short writeups now and then, and not get hung up on trying to have Real Takes on everything. Quick hits! Here we go!
The Land Before Time
This was like, weaponized nostalgia for me. There’s the parts I expected to hit me like a truck, like Littlefoot’s mom dying and the scene where the T-Rex is battering down the walls of the big spiky tree. But then there were bits that fully activated every neuron in my brain that I didn’t even remember beforehand, like the way the sand is animated as Ducky’s egg rolls down the hill, Spike eating grass, or the iconic sequence of Littlefoot’s egg rolling away.
As is common with older children’s entertainment, I was pretty shocked how dark The Land Before Time was willing to get. It’s a weirdly common staple of kid’s movies to feature the death of a parent, but the sheer length of time Littlefoot is given to wallow in depression afterwards was pretty striking - this cute little dude is ready to give up and die for damn near half the movie’s runtime.
Also, the backgrounds are fucking lit - it looks like the Phyrexians brought the glistening oil through this place, god damn. I love it, though - it makes the environment really feel like a place out of time.
Now, I do love the approach contemporary dinosaur media takes to provide a more realistic view of the world dinosaurs would have inhabited. Seeing the creatures of Prehistoric Planet roam through an Earth not so different from our own puts things into perspective, and helps us understand how dinosaurs actually lived. But there’s a certain charm to the old-school approach of Land Before Time or Fantasia, with their blasted rockscapes and murky horizons. It makes the setting feel otherworldly, like the dinosaurs exist in a totally different, impenetrable reality, which is pretty intoxicating for the imagination of a child.
Stand By Me is an entire movie based around how seeing a corpse changed a group of kids. Meanwhile these mfs walk by corpses ten times a day and don’t give a fuck
I Used to be Funny
Loved all the acting and all the writing.

Godzilla vs. Biollante
This is probably my favorite of the old-school Zillas I’ve watched so far - a pretty perfect blend of camp and dope shit.
The human story is a bit of a mess - they touch on a lot of interesting themes, but never quite succeed in making them matter. It is also, however, absolutely chock-full of wild, memorable moments. The Saradian assassin dramatically showing up from off-screen nearly half a dozen times, the weirdly gormless, shades-wearing Colonel Gondo and his Big Damn Hero Moment with the bazooka, Demon Kogure’s baffling cameo, the kids in the Seasoning City Awakening Lab drawing their visions of Godzilla, hell, the totally unexplained psychic girl herself - a lot of weird shit happens in this movie.

Then the monster side is choice, too. I haven’t seen a better-looking suited Godzilla than this one - the movement is spot-on, and the catlike, double-fanged Godzilla manages to be menacing even in close-ups. Biollante is really great, too. I was sold already when she was just an imposing, eldritch rosebush, and then we get a whole crocodilian puppet, replete with dozens of swaying vines? Very cool.
Also, the soundtrack slaps.

Sometimes you just have to watch Godzilla vs Biollante (1989 dir. Kazuki Omori) and the making of documentary and remember what love is.
Love is stored in the detailed miniature sets and rubber suit monster fights.

Godzilla rewatch: Godzilla and Mothra
My copy of this is on the other side of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and doesn't have a subtitled track, so I'm not sure how much is dub creation and isn't. One thing that stands out is the really goofy over the top voice they give this old guy who seems to mostly be there for reaction shots. Another stand out is when the Cosmos ask Mothra not to hurt any more people and Mothra turns right around and crawls straight through a building. I'm guessing the line there was a bit different in Japanese. I seem to recall finding some of the banter between the divorced characters kind of funny, but I can't remember a specific interaction now that I'm sitting down for it, so there wasn't anything too memorable there I guess.
The overall movie feels a lot like a reboot of the original Mothra movie that's being speedrun a bit to fit in an evil twin and Godzilla. Enough of the movie is on Mothra that it feels really weird that she gets written out of the rest of the Heisei movies, or at least it seems like the Mothra Rebirth trilogy should have tied in to some degree. Kind of a Pilot with no follow up or something.
I haven't seen this movie very often though, I've just been more prone to rewatching Showa or Millenium series than Heisei, so I was a little surprised by how aggressive and effective Battra actually is, especially as a larvae. The flying form actually seems like a bit of a downgrade in battle power for him but it's still kind of cheap that he can just decide to assume it and glows for a bit while Mothra still has her whole cocoon process. When Mothra's egg hatches and she's using the ship to keep some cover between herself and the other kaiju I have to say, that ship is tough. It takes a lot of laser blasts, attacks that destroy groups of armored vehicles, like a champ. - speaking of that, the fact Heisei Godzilla is willing to blast little larval Mothra at the get go definitely establishes him as more persistently villainous than Showa Godzilla who fought Ghidorah for doing that. Heck, it took a long time for still a villain Showa Godzilla to retaliate against Mothra larvae (though he was a threat to the egg? I guess he had a small window for 'acceptable target' there)
It's mostly a case of not having many scenes in Destroy All Monsters, but I think this is the most destructive Mothra I've seen. Plowing through buildings and ships, it's kind of funny after hearing about how Toho insisted Mothra not kill anyone in 2019's King of the Monsters. Still she's definitely the least dangerous of the movie's three kaiju. Which reminds me in the first Mothra movie a telepathic link meant it was inevitable that Mothra search for the fairies/cosmos/shinobin but here they actively sing for her to come get them which I can see as coming off as much more premeditated destruction. Kind of weird when they tell Mothra to go back and Mothra doesn't take them along at first. I guess it's so the attack and cocoon can happen.
Everyone being surprised that Godzilla survived a lava bath is sort of funny with the time gap between Returns and vs Biollante in mind, but I guess this Godzilla didn't go through that, because of the time travel from the last movie? Or he both did and didn't? Dang, previous movie goofs everything up. Deep breath, it's a loose continuity, 'something kind of like the last movie might have happened, but maybe it didn't is the rule here. And YET! Mothra's still written out of the series.
Is it just me or is that climactic battle really weird looking? Maybe it's just because I'm from a rural enough an area I'm used to seeing all of Orion pretty easily, but it just does not feel like a night sky to me. Could be effects failure, but I can't say for sure without asking someone from a city with no stars in the sky. The big deal made of Battra catching the Ferris wheel before it falls on Mothra is kind of funny too, sure she's more delicate than the others, but if she can hang with a pair that fought through volcanic activity it seems odd she'd bee threatened by a heavy bit of metal. Well, whatever, it establishes that the insectoids are allies now and they can do their team up, it works fine. Battra seems to take a lot of damage easily here but I suppose there's run time to consider.
Two movies in a row there's a sacrifice to drop Godzilla back in the sea to save Japan, but this time he's not tied up in a bunch of mechanical grapples so it seems like he'd probably get back up more easily than last time even though they glossed over the fact he should be pretty entangled with Mecha King Ghidorah's body. Sigh, loose continuity.
It's a shame we haven't seen Battra again outside of side media like games and comics. I've seen people say that he and Megaguirus make each other redundant, but aside from them being spiky flying insects I feel like they have very different roles and personalities so that they don't really do that.
