This feels Billy Russo coded to me.
I could fix him. I could make him worse. Good for you. I could gently take the weapon out of his shaking, blood-soaked hand and hold him until he finally believes that he doesn't have to be defined by all the ways the world has hurt him. Then we could ruin the lives of everyone who has ever treated him like he's a monster who doesn't deserve love.

Drama? In the WOWP fandom? In 2024? Never.
I may be a Justin Russo apologist, but it’s hard for me to excuse David Henrie all the time.
David has been a controversial figure in WOWP media off and on. Earlier this month David and the WBWP cast was filming a promotional where they were asked to pick out of a list of characters who should be come back to WBWP. As seen in the video David explicitly expresses his shock that one actor is on the list. This is because Dan Benson (Zeke) now posts adult content. Dan commented below the comment saying to an extent “Suck my dick”, and now David blocked Dan from social media.
My issue is not with David’s moral reasoning. I understand that someone who makes adult content can’t be greenlighted to be featured on a children’s show. Especially since when you google his name his photos aren’t family friendly.
My issue with David is how he made a big deal of Dan’s name being in the Buzzfeed quiz. If the point was Dan shouldn’t be on WBWP to shield children away from potentially finding pornographic content, then making multiple comments about and pulling faces to the camera is not helping his cause. Same thing with Mimi Gianopulos (Giada). Instead of giggling about Dan’s character being on the list, his character should’ve been plainly said and just not voted on. I found it strange that the children actors were also laughing— Billie and Roman’s actors are 14 years old. Milo’s actor is 11. Why are they aware Dan works in OF, or that there is some issue? That’s just wrong.
If David really cared about protecting children, he would’ve skipped the question entirely and the footage could’ve been edited.
Now I don’t think Dan is innocent. Sure, Dan posted on Tiktok how he turned to adult content after dealing with his nudes being leaked. I do think he tried to use an emotional ploy to gain sympathy, and to try and keep the traction he was getting to his account due to the Buzzfeed video controversy. That is valid, but I don’t like how Dan still mentions how he worked on WOWP in his instagram bio.
Especially since he uses this insta profile to get an audience for his 0F. Stating that you were a character on a popular children’s show then dropping your 0F link right after? Classy.
Don’t come at me, I don’t think David’s completely in the wrong for this— 40% of me wishes that he would’ve just engaged more appropriately in the video, but 60% of me wishes that Buzzfeed edited the video instead of keeping the drama in. It’s a children’s show, not all attention is good attention.
Where is PR when you need them ??

Billy Russo deserved better
Hear me out,
I don't condone the things Billy Russo has done, but I do understand why he did them.
Some people say Billy Russo was an evil person and such, but I don't really think that's true. Billy wasn't evil, I don't really think he was really "bad" as much as messed up and deeply traumatized. He's a product of what life made him, as the saying goes, "a product of the system", and it's sad. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I honestly do feel sorry for Billy.
He came from a broken home; his own mother abandoned him, left him on the doorstep of a firehouse. Imagine the trauma of growing up with the fact that your own mother didn't want you. The line "I would have given you anything you ever wanted, if you'd only wanted me." when he was talking to his mother broke my heart.
On top of that, because his own mother didn't want him, he grew up in group homes, at one of which an adult he and the other kids trusted attempted to molest him. The only reason he wasn't successful was because Billy, an eleven year old kid, fought back, and even then, the guy got mad and broke his rotator cuff in three places! This is an eleven year old kid we're talking about! Can you imagine the trauma that comes with something like that?!
Then, add to that, all the trauma he endured while in the military and PTSD he likely experienced. I truly believe that was a huge part of where his "all that matters is whether you win or lose" mentality comes from. He was conditioned to believe such, and as someone who grew up learning no virtues or sense of morality (because where would he learn these things from), it was the only real virtue he took to heart, even just in life, after he left the service.
Billy is most likely a sociopath. He exhibits most of the signs/symptoms. This was most likely a product of his upbringing (or lack thereof) and the traumatic events he's endured in his life. He's not evil; he is a mentally ill individual who never received the help he needed.
-Sociopaths do not have a fully functional conscience and tend to be manipulative, exploitative, or even abusive towards other people. Other sociopathic traits include charm, impulsiveness, poor emotional control, and a tendency to behave in illegal, immoral, or violent ways
-Sociopathic traits & characteristics:
•Limited ability to empathize with others
•Limited conscience or remorse for actions
•Few close bonds and relationships
•Emotionally reactive and easily angered
•Reckless or impulsive decision making
•Willing to harm/use others for personal gain
•More prone towards exploitation
An important thing to remember; he served with Frank and was best friends with Frank and his family for a long time, 8 years, according to Frank, and during that time, even in being a sociopath, he lived a fairly "normal" life. As in, he didn't go out committing crimes and killing people. It wasn't until he met Agent Orange, who took advantage of him, that he started doing those things, and only because Orange essentially forced him to.
Billy was a broken, traumatized individual, and William Rawlins aka Agent Orange knew exactly how to prey on that. If anyone was true evil, it was Orange. He promised Billy everything he ever wanted, money, power, the ability to be someone, something that would appeal to someone who literally came from nothing. And once Orange trapped him with that, he had him under his thumb; he was (reluctantly) forced to do his bidding. When he told Billy he was just a tool for him to use, he was sadly correct. Unfortunately, Billy was in much too deep to get out by the time he realized it.
I believe Billy truly did care for Frank, more than he cared for anyone else in his life. When he says Frank was 'the only real friend he ever had', he's telling the absolute truth. You can tell, even now, that he still cares for Frank. But it all boils down to the fact that Billy is a sociopath; sociopaths have limited ability to empathize with others, limited conscience or remorse for their actions, and prone to exploiting others. In other words, no matter how much he cared for Frank, he was always going to look out for himself above all else. That doesn't, however, mean that he doesn't care for Frank, as much as he's capable of, of course. Because he does. In his life, if anything has been ingrained in Billy's mind through his life experiences is to look after himself above all else because he's learned the hard way that no one else is going to.
Remember also that Billy has been told by Rawlins and Schoonover that Frank was the source of the leak, his best friend, his brother, Frank Castle. He never got the chance to find out otherwise. He would most certainly see this as an act of betrayal from someone he trusted, just like when he was a kid, and an adult he trusted betrayed his trust by attempting to molest him. He was hurt because he thought Frank betrayed him. Frank never even attempted to tell him otherwise, like he did with Gunner. And, even then, thinking Frank betrayed him, he still refused to have anything to do with murdering his family.
The thing that bothers me the most is that Billy could have had a chance at redemption. When he finally realized just how unhinged Rawlins really was, he finally did the right thing by cutting Frank's bindings so that he could get free and kill Rawlins. This act could have marked the start of redemption for Billy, but no. I get that Frank was angry about his family, but he could have taken this into consideration, that, had Billy not done that, he'd still have been strapped to a chair being tortured by Rawlins, that Billy did side with him in the end. I mean, he knows Billy's past, that he has to be fucked up from all of that. This is someone he was friends with for years; he could have cut him some slack. But, no, he goes after him anyway.
I'm not even going to get into what they did to him in season 2 where his therapist, his doctor, who was supposed to be helping him, manipulated him even further.
#in this essay i will#billy had a lot more potential as a character#some people say billy was irredeemable but i don't believe that#billy russo apologist#billy russo#the punisher#marvel

@valkyrieandstrangeridingaragorn @unhingedmarvelandclassicwhobuff @therese-lokidottir @captainwidowspring Perhaps it comes as no surprise that a lot of Wanda haters also tend to be Tony Stark stans, and of the kind who will basically engage in all sorts of mental gymnastics to condemn and vilify Wanda while giving Tony a free pass for things arguably far worse than anything Wanda's done.
A lot of that, though, also boils down to narrative protection too. Since the Russos also gave Tony lots of narrative protection while Wanda gets little to no narrative protection.
A victim can be a tormentor too. Exploring the trauma of the tormentor is not the same as being an apologist. When someone says Wanda thought the residents were happy, they're not excusing her behaviour, they're trying to explain her thought process at the time and the fact that she was lying to herself too.
Like, Wanda in WandaVision is the poster girl for this trope:
"It's not heroic to stop being selfish". Well, I disagree. If the person has been selfish for a long time and through some introspection they finally change their ways and do something selfless to help a bunch of strangers, especially when they know that helping those strangers will take something very valuable from them, and they do it anyway... that is heroic.
In that regard, Wanda dismantling the Hex is very much a selfless act.
Maybe we need to have a conversation on what makes someone a "hero". If the answer is someone who has never done anything wrong in their lives, then… heroes don't exist.
I think the answer should be "they're selfless...though not completely selfless. They strive to make the world a better place. They're willing to put others' needs before their own."
Like, you put Wanda in any situation Tony Stark has been in, you can bet that she'd probably make a different choice. Where Tony prioritizes his own comforts, Wanda prioritizes the comfort of others. Let's say, for instance, that Wanda was spared in the Snap, and gave birth to Billy and Tommy because she became pregnant with them right before Vision died. Following the conclusion of the time heist, the logical thing to do would be to have Bruce completely undo the Snap and make it so it's like it never happened. Tony refused to allow the Avengers to do this because it would mean having to erase his daughter from existence, and instead browbeat Bruce into only bringing back the dusted (so those who were killed not by the Snap but the immediate after-effects are SOL). Wanda on the other hand would be for completely turning back the clocks the last five years, because the bigger net gain (all the damage brought on by half the populace being dusted is undone, all the people killed by the immediate after-effects of the Snap will get a second chance at life, maybe getting a chance to save Vision, etc.) would be worth giving up Billy and Tommy. Sure, she may have to do-over giving birth to Billy and Tommy and raise them all over again when this is done, but that'd be worth it if she's doing so with Vision by her side and in a world that never saw the Snap happen.
These people really hate Wanda, eh? 🤦♀️
Their arguments are always the same, they humanize the Westview residents while at the same time they dehumanize Vision and the kids. The residents' pain and their trauma is the only thing that matters, but Wanda's is irrelevant and she's just "delusional".
A victim can be a tormentor too. Exploring the trauma of the tormentor is not the same as being an apologist. When someone says Wanda thought the residents were happy, they're not excusing her behaviour, they're trying to explain her thought process at the time and the fact that she was lying to herself too.

Alright but why does nobody ever talk about how billy russo is clearly insecure about himself- no one who actually feels good about themselves puts on that much of a show of confidence. Sure, he might genuinely believe he's physically attractive, but he's constantly overcompensating in other areas of his life. He has a need to be at the top of the chain, to be the absolute best at what he does, in order to combat feelings of inability that he probably developed through his childhood (i highly doubt billy was praised for ANYTHING during his childhood, nor did anyone make him feel important). He's often greedy and self-serving, but that's probably because he's so used to having absolutely nothing of his own, causing him to desperately clutch onto whatever he can. Also, billy's treatment of his mother is because he wants her to need him, to love him; despite knowing she abandoned him, he still craves a mother's love, which he's been deprived of his entire life. Billy's overconfidence and cockiness isn't a reflection of how he truly views himself, it's a cover to hide how much he's suffering and to cater to his inner child.
#billy russo#the punisher#ben barnes#billy russo apologist moment#seriously though i dont think anyone whose truly confident about themselves flaunts things like he does#people like that's worst fear is that others will see them the way they see themselves
