I left the RWBY fandom after Adam but finding that post with Ironwood being compared with the Isreali president is just mind bogging.

I knew there were some obvious unncessary hate like homophobia against Bumblebee after being Canon or the typical "RWBY went downhill after Monty died" but my God seeing that took me to a whole different level of seeing the fandom.

I have some criticism against the show but even I know that Ironwood is not even close to being compare by that Israeli president crimes.

This FNDM is full of bigots, nothing is new.

Literally last year, someone edited Ironwood into a picture of Vl*dimir P*tin, during the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis because to them, he's the same as a real life fucking dictator.

Ironwood is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER, and I literally cannot stress this enough. Nothing he does is even close to the horrors P*tin put the people of not only Ukraine, but his own citizens through on a daily basis. The same thing with N*tanyahu, who has thousand of innocent's blood on his fucking hand. By comparing these fucking real-life monsters to a fictional character, it's clear to everyone that these asswipes does not give a shit about the people who have to live through these crises. Their suffering is a gotcha against Ironwood and his fans, and that's fucking gross.

Anime fans tend to be bigoted/dumb, but certain One Piece take it to another level.

Toei (and other One Piece distributors/translators) make posts promoting One Piece with Yamato involved, rightfully refering to Yamato as “He” and other masculine terms.

So many “Fans” feel the need to “Correct” Toei about Yamato’s gender, misgendering him.

Do fans really think they know a newer character more then his actual writers.

I actually love hearing about reformed people's stories. I love hearing about people who were in toxic communities or people who used to objectively be dickheads talking about how they got out of that. How they made themselves better.

I hate how most people's initial reaction to stories like that are things like:

"How could you have ever done those things?!" "Oh my god, you believed those things?!" "Well it doesn't un-do the harm you did!"

People incessantly advocate for change but then refuse to allow people who have changed the grace of being acknowledged and given opportunities and chances.

I love hearing about ex-antis talking about how they don't spend their days being angry and sending death threats anymore.

I love hearing about ex-homophobes who realized there's no magic law about what is "natural."

I love reformed bullies talking about how they made amends with their victims and spend their days being considerate of others.

You can't scream about wanting people to change but then expect them to spend the rest of their lives stuck in the past and on who they used to be. You can't expect people to spend the entire rest of their lives grovelling and apologizing and demeaning themselves.

Instead of clinging to who they were, latch onto who they are.

Ask how they got out of it. Commend them on changing. Enjoy that there's one less cause of harm in the world.

"Fandom is just for fun/escapism" means there's no quality threshold to meet to be allowed to contribute, and it is generally a space to share a common love for something rather than spend time hating.

It does NOT mean "everyone gets to publicly say, write and draw absolutely anything and be free from criticism, nothing can possibly have ties to real life harmful ideas and reinforce them, nothing should be taken seriously, everyone turns their brain off and analyzing fan content is pointless", especially since that attitude will automatically allow bigoted content to flourish and will push marginalized people out of fan spaces, or at the very least make those spaces hostile and put them in a position where they have to argue with the bigots empowered by that attitude. So. This was sent to me right around the time the season 1 finale of G_Witch aired, sometime in early January. And I held onto it this entire time because shit, putting my faith even further into this show.

I assume this isn't a mutual or a follower. Whoever it is they were too cowardly to put their name to it. Whoever wrote it, I feel bad for. Because they're no reason to come into a stranger's space and write something like this, unless you get joy from making others miserable, or you are miserable and want others to join you in that misery, or seeing someone enjoying things makes you angry.

Whichever one it is, that points to a person with very little real joy in their life, and I hope they can find something that makes them genuinely happy that isn't destructive.

I doubt any of us are perfect when it comes to the kind of energy we put out into the world and onto the internet. I know I'm not. I've worked on trying to be better about it, but even now I know that I slip up from time to time.

But one thing I truly believe, even if I sometimes struggle to remember it, is that your life is much better when you're focusing on the things that bring you joy.

At times, it feels like the internet is designed to reward hate and negativity, and maybe it is. But that's miserable. We all spend so much time being miserable on here, when we could have so much fun if we put that effort into the things that make us happy.

So, I am going to try to continue putting my love and energy into things that I love, and ignore the things that I don't and just let the people that do like those things be happy. I'm going to fail sometimes, but I'm going to keep trying. And I hope you all will too.

And to the person that wrote this Ask, I hope you find something that gives you as much joy and happiness as G_Witch and these funky little space-wives have given me.
