im just imagining fourteen dying happily of old age, surrounded by friends and family. after having spent a lifetime processing all of his trauma he disappears and bi-generates onto that platform, right back in the middle of it all, and is just so thrilled to see donna and kate and mel again. so overjoyed to get to give himself a hug and say that he’ll be alright.
in a way it’s the perfect ending to this therapeutic time in his life — he gets to look his past self in the eye in the most literal sense, knowing everything they’ve suffered, and show himself compassion and love. to tell him that he did his best. that he deserves to live life the slow way round for once, that they can spare this one lifetime, because there will always be a doctor out among the stars in the tardis doing what’s kind and what’s right. that to take time to love themself, in their entirety, is what will allow the doctor to keep on going.
and so the doctor quite literally gives themself permission to heal. it’s so fucking beautiful goddammit
