Pride Month Special: Annotated Bi Visibility Days
Originally released in September, getting re-released for June. Bi characters ftw.
Emma will explicitly use “pansexual” later in the comic, but she’s not a hardliner on refusing to be called “bi.” She and Bianca both feel happily represented by characters who use either term.
Cohen’s appearance in the 2014 strip confused a fair number of readers. His sexuality had never been named at that point, and “he’s bi, it’s just not visible” was…too confusing for some people to intuit, I guess?
By the 2016 strip, he’s both used the word in-universe and started making out with Bennett.
Above: Bi Visibility Day 2014
Bianca: September 23 is Bisexual Visibility Day! To celebrate, we’re going to spotlight some of the bi characters from But I’m A Cat Person. Starting with me, Bianca!
. . . Technically, we could include half the cast here. All the shapeshifters are capable of being attracted to any gender. (Also, capable of being any gender.) But let’s skip to the human front.
The woman I’m currently dating — that’s Emma, here —
Emma: You look incredibly hot in a suit.
Bianca: — also happens to be bi!
Emma: And if you were a guy, you would still look incredibly hot in a suit.
Bianca: And, um . . . wait, Camellia, aren’t you only attracted to women?
Camellia: The memo I got just said “bi visibility day.”
Bianca: Sorry, that was supposed to be bisexual, not bigender! We’ll spotlight trans characters some other time.
And, wait, why are you here?
Cohen: Beats me. I’m not visibly bi.

AITA for breaking multiple laws?
Okay so I'm not the asshole here clearly but everyone keeps saying I am so I guess I've got to fucking. Explain myself.
I (bigender, he/she) am a sea spirit. Which is cool as fuck actually. And I happen to like mortals. There's only really one other spirit I know who does, let's call them M (all pronouns, no concept of gender, referred to by they/them here for simplicity's sake). Most others tolerate you guys at best, there aren't many who actively hate you so don't worry about that. Not that you'd be able to fucking do anything if they did. You guys are... kind of insignificant. Sorry to break it to you.
So there's this mortal, let's call them L (non-binary, they/them). And they were having kind of a shit time, and they're kind of important, they don't really know it yet but they are. So I just went to check up on them, make sure they were doing okay despite it all. Didn't even reveal my true form. Which I did last time this shit happened except then the mortal wasn't exactly important, ey (referred to here as A, ey/em, transmasc) were just living in a fucking castle made out of sand which was really fucking cool actually and ey were also having a shit time so I turned em into a spirit. Don't worry it's cool I asked em first. We aren't like ghosts or that shit. Pretty sure they don't exist.
Anyway, the fucking council voted to have me imprisoned and put on trial for treason for fucking talking to L, in my mortal form, without mentioning they importance, because allegedly it could damage the future or some shit I don't fucking know. To be fair, I have committed treason multiple times before. But they don't know about that. I think.
So anyway, A, like a fucking traitor came and took me away. In eir true form. Right in front of L. Which endangers us much more than me talking to them.
And then a fucked-up series of events meant that L came down here to rescue me, and ended up teaming up with M (who has done this sort of stuff before but apparently it's only me who gets in trouble for this shit? Seriously M literally un-cursed a girl from a sword, taught two random mortals who weren't exactly human, to use their powers, had multiple arguments with some random shapeshifter... wait actually no there was a trial. Which ended when one of the not-exactly-humans manipulated time. Forgot about that. Which I think was the intention.)
Anyway so now L and M are also in trouble so that's going to be a whole thing. But I did basically nothing wrong except all the treason.
Anyway. Yeah. AITA?
Edit: It has been explained to me that the reason I'm the only one who gets in trouble for this is that most of the others only do it once or twice. I still think it's stupid and hypocritical.

Oh, wait is kadan bigender? What's her version of werewolf like? Do your two werewolves have different werewolf lore they follow?
Yep, Kadan is bigender! He also is a shapeshifter so she can pass as someone assigned female at birth or assigned male at birth (in addition to turning into a werewolf). His preferred pronouns at any given time don't always match her gender presentation. In person, he tends to have one pronoun preference at a time, but in writing posts like this, I like to mix it up.
Yes, my two werewolves, Kadan and Kaleb, are two different types of werewolves and have different lore!
Kaleb was the first (and only) of his kind of werewolf. He was turned into a werewolf by a witch, many many years ago. The curse resulted in him gaining extreme healing abilities. Enough so that he can't actually die. Ever. For a majority of his (very long) life, he was forced to shift during the full moon and only could shift then. He could not do so at will. After living a few thousand more years, though, he was able to gain some control over his shift and could shift at will in addition to being forced during full moons. He cannot turn anyone into a werewolf by biting them.
Kadan is really interesting because she's two different species of werewolves, hybridized. In my canon, people often travel between dimensions and different werewolf species exist in different worlds. One of his parents' was a werewolf from an original piece of fiction I wrote, where I invented my own species of werewolf. The other parent was a species of werewolf from a werewolf romance series I used to really like.
Kadan has a twin brother, but they were separated at birth. Kadan was raised in the world of that other werewolf romance series, and his brother was raised in the world of my own making. Due to this, Kadan's werewolf traits more closely resembled the werewolves from the world she grew up in, and his brother's werewolf traits resembled the other species.
Eventually, however, Kadan came to live in the same world as her twin brother and her werewolf traits started changing to resemble more a mix of both species.
For example, the species from the werewolf romance is not forced to shift at the full moon, but the other species is. So Kadan eventually starts being forced to shift during full moons.
There are a lot more differences between the species and I'd love to go into them at a later date, but this post is long enough for now lol. If people are really interested in the intricacies of Kadan's werewolf-ness, let me know!

My OCs
i’ll do it on here, it makes sense
Kevin Anderson - 27, 5′8″, gay ace, nonbinary trans dude, uses he/him pronouns. shapeshifter. wears glasses. is the friendliest and softest out of them so far. sometimes too soft - just wants to get on with everybody. has really bad anxiety; also has ADHD. main fidget toy is a Rubix cube. loves pasta but mainly snacks. my Windows (the Thing 1982) OC. lives on caffeine as well. can be found eating icing out of a tub. can accidentally shapeshift if overwhelmed/stressed. prone to panic attacks. favourite forms is one of the huskies so he can just chill. has been best friends with Nauls since kindergarten; ran away from parents at 16 due to his shapeshifter status becoming known.
Celpaxtri - Paxtri or Pax for short, unknown age and origin; claims to be hundreds of years old. pan pangendered half cat half humanoid alien. 5′6″. uses xe/xem pronouns. eyes are red and glow in the dark; has night vision, super agility and speed and can electrocute xyr enemies. generally curious but can lash out if xe senses a threat. lets people infodump to them if xe believes they are friendly enough. i have two aus for xem; one for the playmobil movie and the other for the thing. unfortunately both end up with xem going through scientific experimentation, resulting in physical scars and psychological trauma.
Carlisle Rivers - Carl for short, 5′10″, 28, a bi bigender secret agent, telekinetic and telepathic. uses ey/em, she/her and they/them pronouns. is the most reserved and bitter out of all of them, especially having to keep eir powers under control and under wraps because of what it could all mean. is part of a playmobil au and is found out by Rex, which creates multiple conflicts. spends a lot of time pushing people away; powers discouraged from a young age. i believe Rex is a very understanding type and doesn’t budge easily when he sees someone who needs help, despite how many times they push him away. Carl would rather not be a target for anyone who wants to keep an eye on eir powers and Rex just wants to help, so there is clear problems from the start.
Andy Summers - 5′7″ aroace transmasc enby, uses they/them pronouns (started off as a self-insert). is half-Terran, half-Celestial with Ego as their bastard father. never had a good father figure even before Ego (look, Ego’s the absolute worst, but i really don’t like Yondu either as a dad or as a character). in their 20s throughout their time with their bastard father and probs early 30s present day after they kick his ass into space.
not as bitter as Carl but incredibly troubled and often reserved; just wants to vibe in space in their ship. can be emotional. listens to music a lot; this helps with trauma and their ADHD. will not resort to violence unless they really have to. has powers including the ability to sense evil through sickness and migraines around particularly bad people, accelerated healing and heightened invulnerability.
emotions and trauma affect powers - when closer to the light, actually can tune into the core of Ego’s planet to summon their own light tendrils, eyes glow as a result. residual power after Ego’s obliteration is eyes changing colour with mood.
Veronica Coleman - 5′11 secret agent lesbian, uses she/her pronouns. has the ability to become invisible and create and manipulate fire. fiery yet kinda reserved; doesn’t take shit whatsoever. excellent at acrobatics and hand to hand combat and is on a similar level with Rex, though she doesn’t really like the comparison and tries to shrug him off at times. he’s kinda impressed though, and sometimes they get put on missions together. of course, they always have to try not to become a target, especially since her powers would be incredibly useful to certain people with malicious intentions.

To Be Released: Upcoming Books with Pan Characters
Everyone loves pan characters in books, and there just aren’t enough of them. Here is a list of the books I have found that have pansexual/panromantic characters, and here is a rebloggable version of that list. Both lists are constantly being updated.
I’ve done some digging around, and in honor of #PanWeek, I bring to you a few books with pan characters that have not been released yet.
Blacklight (After The World Ends #2) by Rori I (New Years 2017)
"Blacklight reflects on the individual consequences of conflict, the scars of battle – both mental and physical – and how deep bonds can two Officers forge after living through hell. Encompassing the life of a soldier both on and off the field, this novel combines action, speculative sci-fi, and romance into one."
Your Heart Will Grow by C.M. Lloyd (2018)
“Adult fantasy romance about trans man human soldier Morgan Sunilian falling for pansexual mermaid Kelpana while a rejected prince vows to win her heart through any means necessary, even at the risk of starting a war against the magical ocean creatures.”
Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp (January 2018)
“Days before Corey is to return home to the snow and ice of Lost Creek, Alaska, to visit her best friend, Kyra dies. Corey is devastated―and confused. The entire Lost community speaks in hushed tones about the town's lost daughter, saying her death was meant to be. And they push Corey away like she's a stranger.
Corey knows something is wrong. Lost is keeping secrets―chilling secrets. But piecing together the truth about what happened to her best friend may prove as difficult as lighting the sky in an Alaskan winter..”
Miles Away From You by A.B. Rutledge (March 2018)
“It's been three years since Miles fell for Vivian, a talented and dazzling transgender girl. Eighteen months since a suicide attempt left Vivian on life support. Now Miles isn't sure who he is without her, but knows it’s time to figure out how to say goodbye.
He books a solo trip to Iceland but then has a hard time leaving the refuge of his hotel room. After a little push from Oskar, a local who is equal parts endearing and aloof, Miles decides to honor Vivian's life by photographing her treasured Doc Martens standing empty against the surreal landscapes. With each step he takes, Miles finds his heart healing--even as he must accept that Vivian, still in a coma, will never recover.
Told through a series of instant messages to Vivian, this quirky and completely fresh novel explores love, loss, and the drastic distances we sometimes have to travel in order to move on.”
The City of Fallen Stars (The Sterling Wayfairer #2) by G.L. Tomas (TBA)
"White pan teen, black bigender pan teen, steampunk, souleaters, shapeshifting serpents, elemental magic"
Bookmark (Bookish Friends to Lovers #3) by G.L. Tomas (TBA)
"Filipina pansexual heroine, Belizean expat genderqueer lesbian, bookstore worker + author, friends to lovers"
“Ruby Jiang-Cruz had just about had it with commitment. Since the end of her last relationship, the last thing on her mind should've been a sexy Belizean beauty, with a penchant for tattoos, vampy red lipstick and a talent for writing dirty words.
No—she definitely wasn't in the mood for love, but will everything change the moment Harper Córdova bookmarks her way into Ruby's reluctant heart?”
WIP by G.L. Tomas and Kiran Oliver (TBA)
"Portuguese trans-man main character, Cape Verdean pansexual love interest, Portuguese pastries, tattoos + chemistry = explosive"
WIP by M. Hollis (TBA)
"Black Brazilian MC, White Canadian LI, fake marriage, unrequited feelings, cute pan librarian + lesbian photography lover"
Know of any other upcoming books with pansexual and/or panromantic characters? Please share!
