On The Prowl - The Tiger‘s eye. Up close and personal.⁠ ⁠ Explore the incredible details in his eye with the beautiful fur pattern on the face. When this majestic tiger passed our vehicle, I was able to take this close-up photo of his eye. Bengal tigers are the largest animals in the big cat family globally. However, African lions come close to the size of the tigers. Due to poaching and habitats decline, these wild animals are indeed an endangered species. Bengal Tiger Eye Bengal tiger eyes have a binocular vision to judge the distance to their prey. During the day, they can see nearly as much as humans. That is quite impressive compared to other animals. It is also not necessary for their purpose. To see three-dimensional perception and depth perception is the primary function. Tigers mainly hunt during the night due to their excellent night vision. They see about six times better than humans at night. As you see in this photograph, the round pupil allows a maximum of light to enter the eye at night. During the day, they as well see colors. *** ACTION ALERT *** Many of you may have seen, or at least heard about, the Superbowl ad for a new Fox Entertainment TV series “Animal Control” starring Joel McHale. In the ad, McHale is holding a baby cougar. If this had been filmed in the US after Dec. 20 it would have violated the Big Cat Public Safety Act that became law on that day. The law requires that if you are not one of the exempted people like the staff at a USDA licensed exhibitor or a veterinarian you must be kept at least 15 feet from a big cat if the cat is not behind a permanent barrier.

This commercial would violate the new law if it were filmed in the US. It was filmed in Canada, so the BCPSA does not apply. But it is still exploitation of the animal and sends the wrong message. Animals provided to the entertainment industry typically in our view are mistreated. And holding a cub like this sends the message that these big cats make good pets, encouraging people to acquire them. That never turns out well for the animal.

Disney owns Fox Entertainment and we have identified the individuals we believe are the decision-makers who can create a company policy of not exploiting big cats like this. Please take a moment to let them know that you object to this exploitation and urge them to stop.

Dealing with Nature at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge

Turpentine Creek is set on the edge of the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Our 459-acre property is filled with rolling mountains, lush forests, and plenty of native creatures that help add to the gorgeous atmosphere of our refuge. A large draw to our facility is our large, natural habitats filled with trees, grass, and plenty of space. Although this is wonderful for our animals, giving them wonderful spaces to explore every day, there are some drawbacks to being surrounded by so much nature.

The team members of Turpentine Creek spend a lot of time maintaining our habitats through mowing and weedeating. We also have to continually tick dust to protect our big cats from Bobcat fever, fleas, and other blood-borne illnesses, which are not only deadly to small cats but to big cats as well. It is difficult to treat big cats for ticks and fleas, so treating the grounds and habitats is the best way to protect our animals. This is time-consuming and expensive, but worth it to protect our animals.

Another issue we face being surrounded by nature is smaller animals. Snakes, opossums, armadillos, spiders, and other small creatures that cannot be kept out of habitats. These animals either dig and destroy the habitat grounds or can be a threat to our animals. Recently, Koda, a sixteen-year-old male black bear, passed away due to complications from a rattlesnake bite. We do our best to keep snakes away from our animals but there is no way to completely keep them out. These venomous snakes can be a threat to both our animal residents and our team members. We will mourn the loss of Koda, but sometimes nature wins no matter what we do to prepare.

A beautifully manicured facility is the result of our hard work, but the safety of our animals is always a top priority.  Luckily, as summer comes to an end, yard work takes less of our time. We still have to continue to treat for ticks and fleas but as the temperature cools off many of the other animals will go into hibernation and we will get a reprieve from them and the dangers that they pose. When visiting the Refuge please keep in mind that we do have lots of wild wildlife that also calls our grounds home. These animals are not wilder nor are they tame, keep your distance and be prepared.

Artist's Block and How to overcome!

I have been suffering from this (majorly in processing) for a long time and today I decided to restart with my best technique. Here's the result! I face this problem because of 'Perfectionism'. In last few weeks, I have started working on many images and blacked out, because I was not getting what I wanted.

You all have faced this problem knowingly or unknowingly, and will face it in future if you are an artist.

I have written a complete blog about this Artist's block, which you can check on my website, If you have 5 minutes, it may change your thoughts about not getting the expected result all the time.

Oh! I will share the before and after of this image very soon, and then you will understand, why post processing is important.
