It turns out that playing a game primarily because I miss my favorite companion character from it may (did) inspire a variety of writing ideas, even without any intention of such.
This is the power of Sam Coe.

"Last night? Totally worth the bruise."

Um, we're not the only ones on the ship. Where were we doing what?!

So I'm back in Starfield, more for Sam than anything else. I'm trying to balance my companions better so maybe someone else dies, but I'd rather hang out with my Coes!
They're currently still in the flirtation stage of their relationship, but the AI is as impatient for them to get all up in each other as I am. Evidence:

I went back to Starfield for idle entertainment I didn't have to think about because I have more I want to write before I keep playing Mass Effect!
But now I'm thinking about Galen trying to act normal around Sam and Cora in the new universe when they were married, like, a week ago, to his perception. Whatever he'd intended to do differently this time disappeared from his mind once he was out at the Empty Nest with Sam.

A quick sketch I powered through after getting overwhelmed by how much of my dear space cowboy was hat and hair.

Spoilers for Sarah's personal quest!
It's bad enough you can't actually give Cora books, not even the one she specifically requests, repeatedly. But on top of that to not give us any opportunity to throw a little nerd tween slumber party for her and Sona, or even just let them hang out and interact at all!??!? BEYOND CRUEL.

Clearly my character rolled his eyes as hard as I did at the pun.

I like to think Sam is blind to how silly he is, thinking Cora doesn't know about their relationship, when they're on the ship like this.

I started Starfield, as Galen, a ronin.

It's impossible for me not to headcanon that Galen finds Neon to be an agonizing sensory assault because I hate going there for that very reason. It's loud and crowded and awful!
An opinion accurately portrayed by this ridiculous bug-eyed glitch I sometimes notice, playing in 3rd person.

He can get shit done, when there's a mission. He just reverts to his ronin instincts and powers through, which leaves him worried that he'll scare away his new Constellation friends.

I haven't finished Starfield, but it's losing my focus anyhow. I married Sam, mission accomplished. What do you mean there's more Starborn plot? Why must we be immediate enemies to the first non-humans we find? Did Bethany esda learn nothing from bioware?
Now, I'd love to shift my fixation to Baldur's Gate, but I don't have 3 and the earlier ones are much less enticing. So I'm flailing for art ideas and proper distractions as the dark months loom.
