Propaganda Under Cut:
Rosalind Penderwick (Older Sister of Skye, Jane, Batty + Lydia + Older Step Sister of Ben Aaronson/Penderwick): Submitted by Anonymous and @capybaraonabicycle. Despite being very different Rosalind loves Skye and when she is in trouble Rosalind helps her out. Rosalind and Jane get along well with Rosalind being proud of her sister. Before her mother died Rosalind promised to look after Batty and Rosalind acts as a mother figure to Batty. Due to the age difference they weren't close but Rosalind knew that Ben would need his special duck and made sure to get it for him.
Bianca Minola (Younger Sister of Katherine): Submitted by Anonymous.

no but fr i get so pissed when people boil taming of the shrew down to “ew petruchio gross, poor katherine” without acknowledging bianca and her fucking plotline?? like people get so weirded out when i tell them about how much i love the play and i have to go out of my way to tell them that, no, i despise petruchio and i pray on his downfall daily, obviously the misogyny isn’t the part i like about the play???
it really fucking sucks when tots productions cut out bianca’s plotline to make more room for katherine and petruchio, too?? LIKE YOURE GETTING RID OF THE PART THAT MAKES THIS PLAY A COMEDY!!!! STOP IT!!! YOU WILL BE BOILED
it is my firm belief that no production of taming of the shrew is any good without a solid bianca plotline, because her story is the whole fucking reason the play even happens. without a solid bianca plotline, the play just fucking sucks. in this essay, i will-

I haven’t seen anyone talk about it yet so I’ll just remind everyone that Mary-Beth’s stories are about herself and Molly respectively and now I’m upset.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know some people think Mary-Beth could’ve helped Molly’s situation but I don’t think she had much power at all. However she very clearly knew what was going on from the beginning and had no way to express to others how she felt. She wrote about how the woman in her story was brought to America from her homeland and subsequently abused by her ‘husband’ and the men in his ‘family’. She was able to pinpoint the start of Molly’s abuse before anyone else.
She’s so used to feeling like an object herself, that she felt like there was no way to get through to men like Dutch. Only her journal would know what she knew. She’s WAY smarter than she lets on, at least when it comes to men. Her coping mechanism so far as shown in game is to just ignore them and write about it.
She’s essentially gaslit herself into truly believing she’s an idiot. Because it’s been the mask she’s had to use to survive for so long.
Mary-Beth reminds me of Bianca Minola from Taming of The Shrew. She fooled every man in that play by pretending to be meek and dumb. And hey, it worked. She got everything she wanted and was treated like a princess. So why would she stop now? I guess that makes Molly, Kate. She knew what she was worth but it only made men (including the fan base) hate her and try to break her down. She concedes a little bit by dressing to impress Dutch with the green dress, but as far as he’s concerned, she’s beyond taming.
She clearly has a massive respect for Molly by the way she describes her in that little story and by the way she talks about her after chapter 5. But inevitably reverts back to ‘I don’t know’ and ‘I guess you’re right’ because she’s been conditioned into thinking she’s nothing more than her looks. Molly wasn’t quite at that point yet and still had the self confidence she herself lost. I think that’s why she liked her so much.
As well, it’s interesting how she hasn’t named the protagonist of the ‘Molly story’. Meaning it was probably scribbled down on impulse and she couldn’t think of a name that was different enough. Clearly she’s not great at thinking of new names. All her pen names are quite similar to her real name, and the protagonist of her epilogue novel was named Susan Grade (Susan G.) she hasn’t named the woman in the story she wrote about herself either.
She’s only self deprecating about her writing because she KNOWS she can do better, the passion and the story is there but it’s so hard to put the story of abuse into words. In the epilogue she acknowledges that her romances are terrible and it just makes me wonder how good of a novel she could write of it came from the heart. Like if she made the stories about her and Molly into full novels.
Anyway, it’s just sad she felt like she couldn’t talk about this with anyone and could only express it through writing. She had the knowledge to help Molly but had no idea how.

Next Chapter Podcasts Adapts Shakespeare's The Taming Of The Shrew
Tumblr media
Shakespeare on a podcast! Next Chapter Podcasts and Play On have been making that glorious event happen for several years. I love it because of their flawless execution, and also because it makes Shakespeare and his genius more approachable to people. Next Chapter Podcasts and Play On have announced the release of SHREW!, a groundbreaking new audio drama series, premiering on March 10. A sharp and inventive reimagining of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, SHREW! brings the classic comedy into the 21st century with wit, energy, and a fresh perspective. Written by Amy Freed, SHREW! responds to Shakespeare’s controversial original, offering a modern twist that speaks to contemporary audiences. Featuring an outstanding ensemble of accomplished stage and screen actors, the series is enriched by original music composition and sound design by Lindsay Jones and is directed by the acclaimed Art Manke. Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew follows a fiery lady called Katherina, whose defiance of societal expectations makes her an outcast in her own time. When brazen Petruchio arrives, their battle of wits sparks a whirlwind of comedic and thought-provoking confrontations, challenging ideas about gender roles and power dynamics. Freed’s adaptation reimagines this iconic story with a modern sensibility, offering a fresh take on the classic battle of the sexes. Just as Shakespeare wrote for the Everyman of his time—bringing his works to a broad audience regardless of class or education—this podcast brings his storytelling into a format that is accessible to the modern listener, making the Bard’s brilliance available to all. The full cast of SHREW! Includes: SUSANNAH ROGERS as KATHERINE MINOLA and THE WOMAN WRITER ALLEN GILMORE as PETRUCHIO ANNIE ABRAMS as BIANCA MINOLA MARTIN KILDARE as BAPTISTA MINOLA BRETT RYBACK as LUCENTIO KYLE T. HESTER as TRANIO MIKE McSHANE as GREMIO J. PAUL BOEHMER as HORTENSIO and THE MERCHANT DANNY SCHEIE as GRUMIO KASEY MAHAFFY as BIONDELLO and DORCAS STEPHEN CAFFREY as VINCENTIO, THE PRIEST, AND A SERVANT TESSA AUBERJONOIS as THE WIDOW and MISTRESS SLAPBOTTOM
Next Chapter Podcasts (NCP) is the parent company of Play On Podcasts, the flagship enterprise of NCP’s Scripted division, bringing epic audio adventures to listeners in the form of podcast re-creations of Shakespeare’s legendary plays. Play On Podcasts reached three-million downloads less than three years after its debut on April 9th, 2021.
Commented Michael Goodfriend, Head of Scripted Podcasts, Next Chapter Podcasts, “The Play On Podcasts have proven to be enriching beyond words for listeners all over the world. Amy Freed’s satirical take on Shakespeare’s classic is, as they say in improv, a perfect ‘yes and’. Yes, Shakespeare wrote “The Taming of the Shrew,” and we’ve used it as a springboard to a fulfilling companion piece that also stands on its own as a great example of contemporary storytelling." Through immersive soundscapes and dynamic performances, SHREW! captures the humor, rhythm, and heart of Shakespeare’s text while re-examining its themes through a modern lens. This audio adaptation continues Next Chapter Podcasts’ and Play On’s mission to make Shakespeare’s works more approachable and engaging for today’s listeners. SHREW! is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and all major podcast platforms starting today, March 10.
Next Chapter Podcasts is one of those smaller, boutique podcast networks that inject quality into the podcasting space. At Ear Worthy, we do hope they would consider more existing independent podcasts to join their network.

One Dress a Week Challenge
December: Green
Kiss Me, Kate / Ann Miller as Lois Lane as Bianca Minola
*Is she having a bad time? No. (The costume represents the persona of Bianca, who is enjoying the attentions of her three suitors at this point.)
Yes, the character is really named Lois Lane!
The stripes and her mischievous expression in the top photo make me think of a Christmas elf.
It's a pity that the pink-and-black underskirt seems to have gotten separated from the main dress at some point, because the contrast really draws the eye. Seeing the dress on the mannequin, I realize that the overskirt isn't kilted up--that section actually is made to be shorter. It makes perfect sense, since obviously you don't want it coming down while she's dancing, but I never once thought of that while watching the movie.

Gleeson and Bianca?
Gleeson: already done!
Bianca:
favorite thing about them: I love how smart and insightful and perceptive she is!
least favorite thing about them: her tendency to romanticize things too much + her difficulty with standing up for herself
favorite line: “can the patriarchy keep it down? I’m trying to write an essay”
brOTP: bianca katie and milly! Sisters :’) her friendship with bates is also v cute
OTP: bianca/luke I suppose!
nOTP: bianca/harry goes without saying but also bianca/bates it just would Not be good for either of them
random headcanon: she likes to make friendship bracelets, esp in pride flag colors! She has bi + ace + trans flag ones that she wears all the time (yes bianca is trans bc I say so)
unpopular opinion: I don’t like bianca/annie that much 😭 they’re cute but the circumstances surrounding them getting together are sooo fucked up. She should’ve dated chris instead ❤️
song i associate with them: oceans by miya folick
favorite picture of them: an angel 💕

Taming of the Shrew Memes
I'm currently performing in a production of Taming of the Shrew and I was so disappointed to discover there were barely any niche memes about the play it’s filled with so many dumb plans and idiot characters. So I did the lord’s work and made some memes myself. You’re welcome. Feel free to add your own
