Black horns Sienna is fucking batman. She took one look at traumatized adam and immediately projects her trauma and adopts him no questions. And like I already have suspicions for her interactions with ilia lmao. I really like this facet of your characterization of her, where she deeply cares about children and the most vulnerable of the faunus. It pairs with the Great Fire from the last chapter where I get early insight about her cause for the white fang, where she knows the white fang's means of peaceful protests and general existences are met with execution. Ghira doesn't seem to know the extent of what she saw and been through so he's panicking at the world ready to enact violence on the movement. To her, the movement has long since been thrown to the wolves lol. Sienna is so compelling, I can only imagine how nuts it'll be when she dethrones him chapters later.

ok calm down OP basically how I wanted to show it was that. Sienna went into this mission with a lot of confidence. She had nothing to lose and even when she’s fighting those guards she lets a guard go off running. But when she sees Adam?

It’s like a switch is flipped. Sienna not only sees almost every bit of inhumane, cruel suffering experienced by her people all put on one boy, so much so that she still “only knew half the story” (a line which will be. VERY relevant in a few chapters), but she sees a chance to try again and save a child, a little boy, after she lost her own ten years earlier. And after that, all that original confidence practically leaves her; and all there can be is rage.

Sienna is such a fucking interesting character to write, just as all the other silly little peeps will be as the fic goes on. And yes on that last thing. Sienna has only known Adam for 3 seconds and if anything else happened to him she would kill everyone in the room and then herself.

you know. it’s probably obvious how I initially named rose taurus ROSE as like. a tie to whatever adam’s emblem is. you know the rose on his back. but the more I’ve thought about that as I write onward the more the concept makes me want to um. bury myself in a hole and cry

that rose, his mother, rose , the rose on his back is just behind him just out of reach. his belief that his mother is whose free in death and him still denying and not accepting the fact that he was GIVEN FREEDOM and that he’s truly free and that belief that freedom will always be right behind his back. just. out. of. reach.

just like his mother, who he still cannot help but wish he’d died with that night. no matter the circumstances, so long as they could’ve stayed together.

She was 29 during her death in Chapter 3, the same age Sienna was in Chapter 2.

Speaking of Sienna, Rose was also very much a religious person, even aside from her last thoughts being in prayer. A concept that we’ll get to is that during her time at that facility she’d help organize the most notable religious ceremonies and holidays for the faunus. Although close to the time of her death, Rose would cease any of that altogether.

In comparison to Adam her horns are massive.

She and [unnamed husband] formerly lived on Menagerie. And she likely has some relatives still living there too. Cough. Cough.

coolfish i want more bhwf lore please. sienna's generation was born during or just after the faunus war according to the broken timeline i believe (thanks eddy), what are some results of that? how was it living in mistral raising a kid with such crazy social upheaval? what actually was the faunus war and to what ends did it achieve when slavery still existed? Is this the timeline where the war was lost and ghira/ghira's parent just negotiated menagerie with losing conditions? did arun's dad die in the faunus war? was he just a simple tailor lost in crossfires and conflict? or, is this a timeline where there were just no conditions for the faunus rights revolution to have happened in the first place? but like if you dont want to answer any of this that is cool too, cant wait for chapter 4!

Ooh…… :3 thank you Anon. I’ll answer these as best as I can.

So while I’m not(???) going to touch upon it too much until a couple chapters ahead of us, the Revolution did prove successful as (I believe?) it was in canon. However, here, it only provided humanity to… continue their discrimination in more secretive means. Faunus could live anywhere but were they treated fairly? No, and often times one “misbehaving” (or, what a passerby human might simply consider “misbehavior”) would get sent to Menagarie just… without anything to help them survive, as with what happened in Chapter 2. They could get jobs, but only a handful of jobs. In Mistral, the trading district at the highest level banned Faunus altogether. Many of its population lived in the mid or lower levels, such as: Sienna and Arun. Religious freedom, I guess, until one’s celebration proved “too annoying” or “too weird” or “too discomforting” for a human and it’d be shut down.

And most notably regarding a… certain other character, while the use of Faunus labor was banned publicly… it was still very much in use, only secretly now. Much larger mining camps would be spread out across unpopulated lands where no one would be looking, and those enslaved would be Faunus kidnapped and smuggled straight from Menagerie. In fact, it was only in Chapter 3 when the world learned of these sort of facilities, but even then in that news segment in the chapter the slaves are referred to as simple “workers.”

But about ~Sienna~. She came from Menagerie in a fairly big family and when she met her husband, they married on the island and afterwards the two both moved to Mistral, having heard of “endless possibilities” for the two there. Of course, these were all complete lies. The two would find themselves living in a smaller home in the mid layers of the kingdom’s capital until Sienna had Arun.

There’s a specific reason why I leave a lot about Sienna’s first husband unclear and it’s that Arun did not know him very long, whatsoever. He died when the kid was young, and finally just getting this out of the way… he died in a very same way as the kid would, too.

and the rest is history. (aka: some stuff I might not wanna share because ~spoilers~) until chapter 2 of course.
