Since MS Dhoni came into Indian cricket not many wicket keepers came into the limelight. Saha was one such rare player who stood out in the great era of Dhoni. When Dhoni retired Saha become India's no.1 keeper in Test match cricket.
 Wriddhiman Saha played many crucial knocks for the Indian team whenever India was in trouble. His batting was not up to the mark but his behind-the-stumps work was unquestionable. Saha was a brilliant keeper to spin and thus whenever India played in India his importance was seen as a wicketkeeper. Saha was the best option India had to keep wickets when their spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja was rolling over opponents for fun.
 Unfortunately for Saha whenever he used to get some form and extend run going he use to get injured getting ruled out for months. By 2018 then the new kid from Uttarakhand – Delhi came up in the name of Rishabh Pant. Since 2018 India mostly toured outside India and thus Pant was preferred over Saha as keeper on being a better batsman in the 2. Another advantage of Pant was he is left-hander which gives him an additional advantage. Pant slowly blossomed in a keeper-batsman role which meant Saha had to sit on a bench as a substitute. By 2020 Pant has preferred even Indian wickets (on turning tracks) as his keeping skills improved a lot.
Saha thus becomes 2nd choice keeper. He use play whenever Pant was either injured or was given rest. Now the end of last year Indian selection Panel decided to invest young blood for that backup keeper spot so KS Bharath became a member of the test squad. Bharath even kept wickets in Saha's absence against New Zealand back in November.

Now we hearing reports that Indian Team Management has clearly communicated to Saha that, he won't be considered for Indian Test Team selection henceforth owing to his age, and the team intends to invest in young prospects as future keepers. So after hearing this Saha decided when to skip the Ranji Trophy tournament which main entrance door for the Indian Test team. Saha now will be hoping some ipl franchise picks him up at auction so that we can showcase his talent and abilities on the grand stage of IPL.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) players' auction is back. The famous auctioneer Richard Madley again called the names of the cricketers and the eight franchises went into a furious bidding war in Bengaluru.
As many as 578 cricketers went under the hammer, which includes 360 Indian cricketers (62 capped and 298 uncapped) and 218 foreigners (182 capped, 34 uncapped and two from associate nations).
