hello i made a bugposting account. this will be where i post all the fun beasts i see at work from now on. i will probably also reblog them here but not always because i am above all thing extremely inconsistent.
i also queued up every bug pic i ever posted on this account to eventually show up over there, just for fun
i'm an entomologist and love taking pictures of creatures. there'll be a lot of photos of live beasts in the world that i've seen, but probably the majority of pics in here will be of dead specimens i see at work. i'm extremely inconsistent about tagging things, and will not always identify the bugs that i post, at least initially, if i'm feeling lazy or busy, but will try and go back and add taxonomic information when i have the energy. always feel free to send me an ask for IDs or information on both the things that i post or of things that you found
main account with art and stuff is @bowelfly

found an extremely cute wasp at work yesterday. will update once i have time to try and ID it but my suspicion is some kind of weird small cuckoo wasp EDIT definitely not a cuckoo wasp now that i've looked at the wing venation. probably some kind of extra large pteromalid. will ID properly soon

i’ll add in some of my own photos:
these are Paracotalpa granicollis, their common name is “little bears”
photographed in the Carizo Plain National Monument during a superbloom event
can you show us some soft and fuzzy bugs? especially beetles with soft bits
There are just too many fuzzy bugs out there! I’ll share a few very fuzzy beetles though
Apple blossom beetle:
Hehehe look at that fuzzy tum. Photo by jakob
Hairy rose beetle:
If Chewbacca were a beetle he would be this one. Photo by centaur
And my personal favorite, which is metallic AND fuzzy, the glittering monkey beetle!
That butt tho. Photos by nicky and douglaseustonbrown

i've been going through some old vials of insects at work, pulling out things to add to our reference collection, and whatever weird preservation fluid this pipunculid fly's been sitting in for the last 20 years has made it absurdly vibrant compared to how a normal pinned or even live specimen would normally look

found a stunning little eupelmid wasp today at work. shitty pics taken by my phone through the microscope objective really don't do it justice since they have such a narrow field of focus at this magnification and can't pick up all the textures and colors of this tiny ass beast. hopefully I can get some better pics soon with a proper imaging system
