Happy Book Birthday to #BeyondTheRubyVeil by @mara_fitzgerald! This is a dark, queer fantasy that is perfect for October and the spooky season, and I can't wait to jump into this book ASAP. Q: Tell me what book you're most excited to read this month! I'm here for all the spooky, dark vibes of books. "After Emanuela Ragno kills the one person in Occhia who can create water, she must find a way to save her city from dying of thirst." That one line right there had me SOLD on this story! And I mean, its #queer. These photos were taken in Salem, MA which I roadtripped to with 2 friends the last weekend of September. We did touristy stuff on a Friday, when the city wasn't too crowded thankfully. I've always wanted to visit Salem and I'm glad I was able to - the city is VERY strict about wearing a mask at all times, and I really appreciated that. The first two photos are in the gardens at the House of The Seven Gables @h7gables - best known today as the setting of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 novel. The last photo is outside of The Witch House, which was the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin (1640–1718) and is the only structure you can visit in Salem with direct ties to the Salem witch trials of 1692. Sadly tickets to enter were sold out the entire weekend - they only allowed 4 people per time slot, which again is great to stop the spread of COVID. I miss traveling, but I'm glad I was able to go on a few roadtrips this summer/autumn and be safe about it. #invokingbooks - Most anticipated #gezelligeboekenherfst - Red #cozyascanbee - Autumn magic #wanderingmystical - Horror/paranormal reads #beastandbookshalloween2020 - Witches #BooksCoastToCoastOct20 - Superstitions #FearYourNovel - Spooky vibes #fandombookishoct20 - Dark and beautiful #BoostingYA #Sapphicbooks #sapphicbookrecs #queerbooks 📸: @11milebay (at Salem, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGSW_hhglJo/?igshid=1szekbfnb2qk

Hello, Lovelies!  A dark young adult fantasy that's perfect for fans of the Three Dark Crowns series and Wicked Saints. After Emanuela Ragno kills the one person in Occhia who can create water, she must find a way to save her city from dying of thirst. - Beyond the Ruby Veil (Beyond the Ruby Veil #1) by Mara Fitzgerald  https://bit.ly/2So4diF
Emanuela Ragno always gets what she wants. With her daring mind and socialite schemes, she refuses to be the demure young lady everyone wants her to be. In her most ambitious move yet, she's about to marry Alessandro Morandi, her childhood best friend and the heir to the wealthiest house in Occhia. Emanuela doesn't care that she and her groom are both gay, because she doesn't want a love match. She wants power, and through Ale, she'll have it all. But Emanuela has a secret that could shatter her plans. In the city of Occhia, the only source of water is the watercrea, a mysterious being who uses magic to make water from blood. When their first bruise-like omen appears on their skin, all Occhians must surrender themselves to the watercrea to be drained of life. Everyone throughout history has given themselves up for the greater good. Everyone except Emanuela. She's kept the tiny omen on her hip out of sight for years. When the watercrea exposes Emanuela during her wedding ceremony and takes her to be sacrificed, Emanuela fights back...and kills her. Now Occhia has no one to make their water and no idea how to get more. In a race against time, Emanuela and Ale must travel through the mysterious, blood-red veil that surrounds their city to uncover the secrets of the watercrea's magic and find a way to save their people-no matter what it takes.@letstalkya @thenovl #beyondtherubyveil #novlnation #ya #youngadult #iloveya #fantasy @littlebrownyoungreaders @littlebrown @mara_fitzgerald #lovelyloveday #lovelylovedayblog

Hi friends, I hope you're all doing as well as you can be, keeping healthy and safe and fighting the good fight! I feel a little weird to be posting with all thats going on right now, but I wanted to share some Pride Month recommendations with you. I'm taking part in @bookishly.dreaming LGBTQIA+ challenge #BookishlyDreaming and the first theme is F/F, so I am here with some F/F recommendations. One I am very much looking forward to reading is Beyond The Ruby Veil, out October 13th. This is a dark fantasy book with a world based around blood magic and violence that includes descriptions of blood, stabbing, needles, wounds, and murder. There are content warnings on the authors website so just be aware going into that one! "Emanuela doesn't care that she and her groom are both gay, because she doesn't want a love match. She wants power, and through Ale, she'll have it all." I'm sold. Another book of these I truly loved was Girls Made of Snow and Glass - it was soft f/f romance, for lack of better words, and a Snow White retelling. I loved it very much. I will admit I'm very much an audiobook reader (listener?) so I don't own as many physical f/f books as I would like. I couldn't actually think of ANY f/f books by Black authors off the top of my head and I feel guilty about that. So todays Q: What's a F/F book you would recommend? Double brownie points if its by a Black author! I'm listening and adding to my TBR - I just made a shelf on Goodreads for LBGTQ+ and then further shelved by sexuality pairing(s) so I will have a reference easily on hand. And if you don't have a rec, just tell me how you're doing. #LetsGetLitBabes - Representation in fantasy #bookstababesjune20 - Summer stack #PrideLibrary20 - F/F - I'm late for this prompt but looking forward to (and learning from) the Black author tags for today #ladiesoffictionjune20 - Pride month #evilqueenreadswithpride - Anticipated book #allthebooksjune20 - Dark reads #WickandJaneBae - Fantasy #YABookstagram #PrideReads #PrideBooks #LGBTQIAPD #lgbtreads #lgbtbooks #BeyondTheRubyVeil #GirlsMadeofSnowandGlass #GirlSerpentThorn #GirlsofPaperandFire #PrincessandtheFangirl #GideonTheNinth #TarnishedAreTheStars https://www.instagram.com/p/CBGmxJJAo-e/?igshid=1v1nvh1paeqbs
