Two more Hundred Line trailers dropped!
I have seen them! I haven't really been able to analyze them fully since I've been focused on others things, but I'll serve up some of my initial thoughts.
The main point of the trailer featuring the in-game song is that DEATH WILL BE AN EXTREMELY COMMON OCCURANCE. Do not be alarmed in your playthrough if someone dies, as it is most likely bound to happen to one or multiple or even all of these characters. However, there does seem to be a key story element of alternate timelines, where Takumi can go through different timelines or even 'restart' his own timeline to try to save everyone or as many people as possible. I imagine this is the supernal gift he's given by stabbing himself. This could quite literally mean he's sacrificing bits and pieces of himself in order to save others.
Another thing someone in my Rain Code server pointed out to me is that it's very possible that students who die in your playthrough could transform into monsters and become enemies you have to fight against. This is derived from the one shot of the buff female character having a monstrous appearance covered in bright red eye symbols that greatly contrasts how she appears in the main illustration. The allies you let fall in battle could come back for revenge, so you will have to choose wisely about who you send out onto the battlefield, as they could become your next enemy.
But, most importantly, GAMBLING IS BACK BABYYYYYYY LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WHO'S GONNA HIT THE SLOTS WITH ME?!

On brand with the last ask, could you please do a New Years indruck?
Of course!
The list is created three weeks after the world almost but ultimately doesn’t end, and a mere five days after Indrid announces he plans to stay in Kepler for the foreseeable future.
“Hey, uh, if you wanna come with us, me and Leo and a few others are gonna go bowling tomorrow night.” Duck says these words after dropping Indrid off at his trailer, as has become their habit if both happen to be visiting the lodge at the same time.
“I would be happy to come along. I have never bowled, so I can’t promise I’ll be good.”
“Wait, really? You been on Earth, what, decades if not centuries and you’ve never gone bowling?”
A shrug, “I was alone, and often chose my activities based on my investigations and, later, on what allowed me to intervene in unwanted futures.”
Duck taps the steering wheel, “Are there other things you missed out on?”
“Plenty.”
“Like what?”
Indrid sifts through his memories, looking for the moments when he’d wistfully wondered what something was like, or turned away from an object of interest in order to pursue his mission or prevent a catastrophe.
“I...there are so many, I am afraid we would be in the car all night if I were to name them.”
Duck drums on the wheel a moment more, then snaps his fingers and reaches across Indrid to rummage in the glove box,. He pulls out a napkin and a pen, scribbles something on it before handing it to Indrid.
“Here, when you think of more, write ‘em down on this list. Probably can’t help with all of them, but I’m bettin I can help with some.”
“Thank you Duck, but why do this for me?”
He knows the answer but, selfishly, he wants to hear it in real time.
“Because you’re my friend. And hey, owe you one for tellin us our first plan to stop the Quell was gonna backfire.”
Indrid doesn’t really care about that second part of the explanation, but he smiles anyway, “I suppose that’s true. See you tomorrow.” He hops out of the car and waves as Duck pulls away, opens the ‘Bago in the dim red glow of his taillights. It’s only when he’s inside that he sees what Duck actually wrote on the list.
Fun things Indrid’s never done
1) Bowling.
Indrid grabs Capri Sun from the fridge, sits down and picks up a pen, still laying on a nearby drawing, and adds to the list.
--------------------------
Somewhere around number 14, obtain fancy, proper manicure the list moves from Indrid’s table to Duck’s fridge. Indrid admires his shiny, pink and yellow nails while Duck crosses that item off along with number 23, eat Sushi at a place with rotating boat things. They’d driven two towns over for that combination, a Saturday well spent as far as Indrid is concerned.
And he is. Concerned. Duck has spent nearly one day out of every weekend with Indrid since the list was created, even when the activity is something Indrid could easily do on his own. He’s bonded with others as well. Juno took a water-coloring class with him (he’d seldom sought out other forms of art in spite of wanting to try them, drawing serve his purposes just fine) and dishing the dirt on Ducks younger days. Barclay helped him actually make a cake from start to finish. Jake taught him how to do an adequately graceful dive off a diving board.
But more often than not, it’s Duck by his side. He enjoys the other mans’ company immensely, the warm, safe feeling that flickers in his chest when Duck is with him. Yet still he worries.
“Duck?” He looks up from his nails.
“Yeah, ‘Drid?”
“I appreciate all your help, and your company. But you know you do not have to do everything on the list with me simply because it was your idea, right?”
“Uh, yeah. I’m doin them because I like spendin time with you, goofus. Besides, it’s kinda fun, havin an excuse to share all the normal, cool shit of the world with someone who hasn’t gotten to experience it before. I like seein how happy it makes you”
“Oh.” Indrid says softly. He hadn’t seen that last sentence coming. Duck’s smile goes shy at the edges, and Indrid realizes his answer was not sufficient to convey how he feels.
“Thank you, Duck. I hope you know I always enjoy spending time with you. And there is no one I would rather explore the world with.”
“Glad to hear it” Duck leans against the fridge, “now c’mon, we’ve still got time to go feed the Ducks down on the Greenbriar.”
-------------------------------------------------------
It’s the week between Christmas and New Years when Indrid discovers another item for his list.
“So, Barclay,” Dani, visiting from Sylvain this week, flops on the lobby couch near the fire, “you’re gonna finally have someone to smooch at midnight.”
“Uh, ah, well, yeah. I mean, if Joseph wants to, of course.”
“Oh yes, that is an earth tradition, isn’t it. For luck?” Indrid cocks his head, trying to recall if he ever learned the true reason for it.
“Maybe? I think it’s mostly an excuse to kiss.” Barclay shoots Dani a friendly glare when she bounces her eyebrows.
“I see.”
“Have you ever gotten a New Years kiss, Indrid?”
“No.” He answers mildly, as if the thought is already leaving his mind.
That night, as Duck is queuing up The Addams Family (it’s not a list item, they simply both enjoy the film), Indrid adds a new item to the list.
60: Kiss someone at midnight on new years
At some point during the night, Duck gets up to grab them drinks, and from the corner of his eye he sees him pause and read the list. He says nothing about it when he sits back down, but several futures emerge where he rests his arm around Indrid’s shoulder.
None of those futures come to pass. Indrid tries not to be disappointed.
He continues this futile process throughout the remaining week. True, he could ask someone to be his new years kiss, or choose the person closest by to ask on the night of. But he wants it to be Duck. Duck, with his easy smile and good heart, his fondness for gently teasing Indrid, his absurd laugh, the way he makes Indrid feel home when they’re side by side. It can’t be anyone else.
He nearly cracks during item 43, have a snowball fight, when he collides with Duck accidentally while avoiding a barrage from Hollis and Jake. They hit the ground, the human shaking with giggles beneath him. Duck catches his breath, reaches up and adjusts Indrids glasses, knocked askew in the dive.
“Knew I was fallin for you, but this is ridiculous” he murmurs.
Indrid is a half-second away from kissing him, or at the very least asking him out, when a large snowball is dropped on top of them. He splutters, shaking powder from his head while Duck guffaws, and spots Barclay running the other way in his Sylph form.
He hands Duck his glasses and scoops snow into all four hands “I’ll be right back, I need to perform an air strike.”
-------------------------------------
The lodge lobby is covered in white star lights, silver and gold streamers hang from the ceiling, and Aubrey has enchanted the clock above the fireplace to shower rainbow glitter on the room every hour, on the hour.
Because the party invitation stated guests should dress “fancy,” Indrid is in a sparkly silver sweater and his most formal pair of sweatpants. When he sees Duck enter the room around nine, he spends a good thirty seconds admiring the way his suit flatters the sturdy, familiar curves of his frame.
He’s given many more chances to admire them, as Duck spends much of the night by his side, sitting snug against him as they talk with their friends by the fire. Indrid allows himself to be content with this closeness, afraid that broaching the subject of the kiss will ruin things. He’s so certain it’s not worth the risk, he doesn’t bother looking at the futures.
As midnight approaches, many of the guests crowd near the glowing count-down clock Aubrey’s created in the air. Duck and Indrid stay seated.
“Five, four, three, two, one, happy new year!” People cheer and whoop, and Indrid watches Dani dip Aubrey in a kiss, Stern cup Barclays face gently with a smile.
Oh well, there’s always next year.
“Hey, ‘Drid.”
He turns, finds Duck with a sweet, flirtatious smile spreading across his face. Carefully, he tilts Indrids glasses up onto his forehead. Indrid leans in, pulled magnetically into Ducks arms. He hums as warm, champagne-tinged lips meet his own.
Duck pulls back to breathe, but keeps him in the embrace, “That good enough to check off the list?”
Indrid tries to keep his voice steady, “Please don’t tell me that’s the only reason you-mphnmmmmm.” The next kiss is deeper, Duck growling gently when Indrid nips his lower lip.
“Been wantin to do that for weeks” He nuzzles Indrids cheek, “This just seemed like the most romantic way to start things off.”
“Agreed.” Indrid kisses him eagerly, climbing into his lap.
“Whoo! But also, get a room!” Aubrey’s voice rings out, and Indrid doesn’t need to look to know many heads in the room are turned their way.
“Apologies.” He smiles, not in the least bit ashamed, at his friends. Duck turns redder than the fire behind them.
As the party winds down, the duo says their goodbyes and head out towards the human’s car.
‘Y’know” Duck’s voice is low, full of warm, filthy promises, “think we outgha make another list of things you been wantin to try,”
“Agreed” Indrid purrs, looping his arm around Ducks shoulder, “but I suggest we not keep that one on the refrigerator.”

Breve Bio Serenella Bettin, 37 anni, giornalista. Summary: Stan gets to know the youngest McGucket. [Stay-at-Home Stan AU] Word count: 1345
Stan walked onto the porch. He let out a satisfied sigh as he surveyed the farm. The morning air was already warm, despite the early hour. A rooster crowed proudly at the sun peeking over the horizon. The farm was still, and quiet, despite the racket coming from the chicken coop.
Gonna be a hot one today. Damn, am I glad I didn’t need to come to the market this morning. The McGuckets had left about an hour ago for the farmer’s market, and since their children were home for the summer, Stan wasn’t needed to help sell produce. It’s gonna get miserable outside fast. Better get my chores done before then. The rooster crowed again.
“I hear ya, Carl,” Stan shouted at the chicken coop as he walked down the porch steps. “Good mornin’ to you, too.” He began to make his way to the barn. As he got closer, he could see the door had been left open. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
Shit, shit, shit! Did I forget to close the door yesterday? Oh, fuck, what if all the animals escaped? He picked up his pace. Within a few feet of the barn, he began to hear faint singing.
“…take me home, to the place I belong…”
Huh? Stan walked into the barn. There was someone sitting on the ground, leaning against a haybale. Oh. It’s one of the McGucket kids. I thought they all left to go to the market. The McGucket continued to sing, unaware of Stan’s presence, as she was facing away from him.
“West Virginia, mountain mama…”
Nice voice. She’s the youngest one, right? What’s her name? I’ve only met her a couple times. Stan furrowed his brow. Starts with an ‘A’. Amber, Annette, Alice…Angie! That’s her name. Stan leaned against the wall. Wonder why she didn’t leave with the rest of ‘em. Angie’s voice grew louder as she neared the end of the song.
“Take me home, down country-” Stan accidentally knocked over a pitchfork, cutting Angie off with a clatter. Angie immediately jumped up and spun around, holding her instrument like a bat.
Whoops. Stan and Angie stared at each other for a split second. She’s kinda cute. Recognition flickered in Angie’s eyes.
“Oh, it’s you,” she said, relaxing. She lowered her instrument.
“Nice singin’,” Stan said. Angie cast her eyes downward.
“Servicable, I s’pose,” she mumbled. “Thank you.”
What? Can’t she take a compliment?
“Sorry fer, ah, impedin’ yer responsibilities,” Angie said. “I’ll get out of yer hair.”
“I just got here,” Stan said. He shrugged. “I don’t mind the company.”
She’s not as annoying as Harper and Lute, so…
“Really? ‘Cause if I were a bettin’ woman, I’d bet ya didn’t go to market today ‘cause ya wanted some time to yourself,” Angie said, propping one hand against her hip.
“Nah, I didn’t go ‘cause I got to sleep in an extra hour. The quiet farm’s just a bonus.” Stan nodded at the instrument she was holding. “Where’d you get a tiny guitar like that? I’ve never seen one before.”
“Gui- oh!” Angie laughed. “You mean my uke.”
“Your what?”
“Uke. Short fer ukulele. It ain’t a guitar. And I got it at school. It had been sittin’ in the lost ‘n found box fer months, wastin’ away. So I decided to take it home, give it some love ‘n attention, and see if I could puzzle out a few songs.” She strummed the strings, a proud grin manifesting on her face. “I never got lessons on it; I’m teachin’ myself how to play it.”
“Damn,” Stan said with an appreciative nod. Angie’s grin broadened.
“Thank you,” Angie said. Stan picked up the pitchfork he had knocked over.
“Aren’t you a scientist? How come you’re teachin’ yourself instruments?”
“I study biology, yes. And, well, if ya know the basics of music, ya can teach yourself most things. It helps that I’ve got trainin’ in fiddle and cello.”
“No guitar or banjo?”
“No way,” Angie said firmly, shaking her head. “Banjo’s already in my name. I don’t need to play it, too. And guitar never spoke to me. Ya want to choose an instrument what speaks to ya.”
“I played flute in high school, but it never spoke to me.”
“Ya didn’t dabble in guitar?” Angie asked. She leaned against one of the horse stalls. “Most boys do.”
“Eh. Wanted to, but never got around to it.” Stan stabbed the haybale Angie had been leaning against with the pitchfork.
“One of my brothers could teach ya.”
“Nah. They probably only know country songs like you were just singin’.”
“Don’t you badmouth John Denver!” Angie gasped. Stan stared at her. She laughed. “I’m just foolin’ with ya, Stan. Country ain’t everyone’s cup of tea. Most folks at my school don’t like it. That’s why I play it here, at home.”
“So what if they don’t like it?” Stan asked. He began to scatter hay. “That’s their problem.”
“It becomes my problem when folks use my background as a farmgirl from Nowhere, Arkansas to not take me seriously. Heck, even my accent is enough fer some folks to stop listenin’ to me.”
“That’s bullshit.”
“Yeah.”
“Nowhere’s on the other side of the state. The closest town to the farm is Gumption.” Stan looked at her. “The accent thing, too.” Angie grinned.
“You’ve got a funny sense of humor, farmhand.”
“I guess.”
“It’s a good feelin’, though,” Angie continued softly, “when I get home and can fin’ly be, y’know, me. A country girl raised on a farm. Makes some songs feel extra special when I sing ‘em.” Stan frowned, trying to remember the lyrics he’d heard earlier.
Somethin’ like…“take me home”.
“I can see that.”
“Yer not a fan of country, though?”
“Oh, hell no.” Stan glanced at Angie again. “But, I dunno, if all country singers looked and sounded like you, I might change my mind.” Angie cocked her head, perplexed. After a moment, she let out a bark of laughter.
“Oh! That was a joke!”
…Not really.
“Yer quite the character, Stanley Forrest.”
Am I?
“I really should stop jabberin’ at ya and let ya do yer job, though,” Angie finished. She stood up straight. “Otherwise, you’ll just spread ‘round that hay fer hours.” Stan looked down. He grimaced. Like Angie had said, the hay he’d been taking from the bale was coating the ground in a disorganized mess.
“Dammit,” Stan muttered. He knelt down and began to scoop it up. “But I said it before. I don’t mind the company. Maybe you could sing some more, try to persuade me to like country. Or better yet, if you know any good songs-”
“No,” Angie said shortly. “I- I don’t sing in front of people.”
“Stage fright?”
“Not quite,” Angie hedged. Stan stood up, his hands full of hay. “Y’know, you could’ve just swept it up.”
“Now you tell me.” Stan dumped the hay on top of the bale. “Seriously, though, you can sing if ya want. I don’t care.”
“I don’t have a good singin’ voice.”
“That’s a lie,” Stan said flatly. Angie crossed her arms with a huff.
“Fine. Maybe you don’t think that. But I do.”
“Sure, whatever. Now, pick up that nuke and play another song. Do you know anything from the Rolling Stones?”
“No, I don’t know any Rolling Stones songs, it’s a uke, and I just told ya I don’t sing in front of other people, ‘cause I don’t sound good.”
“Yeah, and I just told ya that I think you sound good.” Angie opened her mouth, but didn’t say anything. Stan raised an eyebrow at her. “Your move, McGucket.”
“…Fine.” Angie slid down against the horse stall. Once on the ground, she crossed her legs and idly strummed her ukulele a couple times. “But I don’t take requests from folks what don’t like John Denver.”
“You drive a hard bargain. But even country’s better than listenin’ to the rooster screech for hours.”
“I’m flattered,” Angie drawled, rolling her eyes. “I’ll do my best to drown him out.”

EVERYBODY’S PICKIN’ UP ON THAT FELINE BEAT, PART 34
I was poking at this today with the intention of maybe getting another scene or two done and belatedly realized that I’d actually written more and, apparently, forgotten about it. Whoops?
Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 5. Part 6. Part 7. Part 8. Part 9. Part 10. Part 11. Part 12. Part 13. Part 14. Part 15. Part 16. Part 17. Part 18. Part 19. Part 20. Part 21. Part 22. Part 23. Part 24. Part 25. Part 26. Part 27. Part 28. Part 29. Part 30. Part 31. Part 32. Part 33.
Title: everybody’s picking up on that feline beat Author: Sorrel Fandom: Fallout 4 Rating: Mature Warnings: None Relationships: Deacon/Female Sole Survivor Series: Part 3 of everybody wants to be a cat
After all that prep, Deacon’s prepared for a lot of things. For coursers to spot their hiding spot, for the ghouls not to chase Cait and the other runner, for the ghouls to catch the runners, for the coursers to stay put instead of moving out to deal with the ghouls, for there to be a boatload of extra security inside, for the coursers to come back before they’re done… Deacon’s a worst-case-scenario kinda guy, and something this ballsy is bound to leave a lot of holes. Whisper’s plan is solid, but Deacon’s got contingencies on contingencies, a whole laundry list of if-then statements to make sure that whatever else might go wrong, at least he and Whisper will make it out with their skins intact.
He wasn’t prepared for everything to go according to plan.
“This is spooky,” he murmurs, shifting the chemist’s weight more squarely over his shoulders. The chemist makes a faintly protesting noise, then falls silent again, as Hancock’s ‘State House Special’ works its magic. “This feels way too easy. Don’t you think that was too easy?”
“Shut your pie hole,” Whisper hisses back. She leans around the corner, glances down at her Pip-boy for life signs readings, and then jerks her chin, indicating that he should move forward. “Are you trying to jinx us?”
“Aww, Whisper, don’t tell me you’re superstitious?”
“Don’t tell me you’re not.”
He feels her presence behind him as much as hears it; she’s moving with her usual quiet grace, though it’s probably wasted by the way he’s blundering forward. Deacon prides himself on keeping in shape about as well as the next forty-mumble guy with an active lifestyle, but hauling a dead weight around the Commonwealth streets is taking its toll. The chemist was semi-conscious enough to stumble out with them, if not enough to figure out why he was being hauled out at all due speed by complete strangers, but eventually their knockout shot worked just a little too well. Deacon gave up and started carrying him almost two blocks back.
“We’re almost there,” Whisper says, trying to sound encouraging and mostly just sounding frustrated. She’s not any happier about their slow pace than he is, but she needs her hands free to shoot in case someone catches up with them, so it’s not like she can do anything to help. “Just another block.”
“Sure thing, partner.” Maybe he should have brought a cart.
The blocky outline of the Plaza is a welcome sight, and Deacon picks up speed, gaze fixed the small square of lamplight spilling out of the front door. Twenty more feet and then he can-
The sound a magazine racking into place breaks through his exhausted trance. “That’s close enough,” comes Hancock’s raspy voice. “I don’t give a fuck what scam you’re running, you can just turn your happy asses back around and go back the way you came.”
“Hancock, you dipshit, it’s us,” Whisper says, pushing past him until the light falls over her painted face. “See?”
Hancock squints at them, then lowers his shotgun, his mouth falling open in surprise. “Liv? ‘zat you?”
“Questions later, move,” she says, with that very special Obedience or Death tone that Desdemona only wishes she could mimic, and Hancock complies almost instinctively, falling back and leaving the doorway blessedly clear. Deacon staggers through and spills his burden gratefully to the floor inside, leaning over and bracing himself on his thighs to pant.
“Fuck me, that guy could stand to lose a few pounds.”
Hancock ignores him, peering uncomfortably close to his face until Deacon almost topples trying to lean over. Undeterred, he only circles around to give Whisper the same treatment, only backing up when she bats irritatedly at his face.
“Shit,” Hancock breathes. “Damned if those scars don’t look real as hell. How’d you pull this off? Honest to god, I thought you were a raider, almost fuckin’ shot you til you said something.”
Deacon recovers his breath enough enough to straighten, holding his hand out to Whisper. Not looking over, she pulls a sack of caps out of her pocket and slaps it into his palm, scowling.
“Told you,” he says. “I’m just that good.”
Her bitter look says she’s going to make him pay for that bit of smugness later. “You just lost me ten caps,” she grumbles at Hancock. “Aren’t ghouls supposed to have great night vision?”
“Not with all that shit all over your face,” Hancock grumbles right back. “What were you doing bettin’ on me in the first place?”
Whisper shrugs and leans down to grab the chemist’s arm. “Gotta make our fun somehow. C’mon, help me get this guy upstairs. He’s not going to be unconscious forever.”
~*~
The stairs seem a lot less daunting with ghoul’s strength on their side, and Deacon happily falls back and lets Hancock and Whisper handle the transit while he detours into the side room to get the extra equipment. When he catches up to them in their makeshift interrogation room, Hancock’s holding the guy upright while Whisper arranges him properly on the chair, glancing interrogatively over her shoulder at Deacon when she hears his footsteps in the doorway.
He tosses her the cuffs, and she snaps them into place, followed by the wide leather straps at the shins and torso that will actually hold the guy into place. At her nod, Hancock takes hold of his shoulders and tugs him hard from side to side, testing. The chair doesn’t so much as twitch, the bolts securing it to the floor holding fast.
“Don’t think he’s goin’ anywhere,” Hancock grunts, after a moment, and lets go. The chemist sags in his bonds, and Hancock steps back, brushing his hands together to dust them off. “You sure you don’t want me to stick around? What if those coursers track you down?”
“Then here is the last place you should be,” Deacon says, gently but firmly, before Whisper can answer. "Right now, we’ve got no reason to think they’re moving on Goodneighbor just yet, but that could change if the Institute figures out you were part of this little operation.”
Hancock glances at Whisper, who nods. “You’ve got a responsibility to your people first,” she says. “You already went above and beyond on this, okay? We couldn’t have done it without you.”
Not exactly true; they’ve hit harder targets, though usually with a bit more time to prepare. Still, Deacon’s never made a habit of getting in Whisper’s way when she’s working her magic, and the soft, pleased look on Hancock’s face says it’s working just fine.
“Yeah, well, can’t say it wasn’t fun,” Hancock says, only a little gruffly. “It was one hell of a last time, Liv.”
Whisper’s face softens. “Guess it was,” she says, and exchanges a quick look with Deacon, strangely hesitant. He nods toward the door, and she smiles, straightening out of her crouch and threading her arm through Hancock’s elbow. “C’mon. I’ll walk you out.”
Deacon doesn't let himself listen in to the fading blur of their voices as they retreat down the hall; he's had enough of eavesdropping for one day, thanks, and this time, at least, he's pretty sure Whisper would expect him to listen in. He's already seen the most interesting parts of her and Hancock, and besides—it's not the things she wants him to hear that he needs to figure out. It's all the rest.
Getting the cuffs wired up takes all of his attention, anyway. Whatever the fuck Hancock put in the knockout juice worked a treat, but the guy's gotta come around at some point, and it'd sort of defeat the purpose if they didn't have everything up and running first. Deacon's not what you'd call a mechanical genius, but he's used them before, even back with Tinker's earliest iterations, which had a nasty habit of shocking the shit out of you if you let touched the wrong ends. Carrington's tweaks have made them considerably more user-friendly (and idiot-proof, as the good doctor complained more than once, after some of the more… spectacular of the early failures) but usually Deacon's wiring the damn things to, y'know, an actual terminal. Not a Pip-Boy. Which is not meant to be wired to anything but a friggin' vault door. Not the most compatible input ever.
He's almost done when the first groans of returning conscious sound from the chair behind him. He eyes the unfinished connection, curses under his breath, and shoves the last cable into the converter with more speed than caution. Slaps the power button, and prays.
There's an ominous pause, and then the Pip-Boy screen flashes a familiar cheerful startup sequence. Deacon lets out a slow breath that turns into a choked laugh as a moment later, a tiny green caveman chases a tiny green astronaut across the screen.
So the Doc's got a sense of humor after all, Deacon thinks. And here I thought he'd had it surgically removed sometime back in the seventies.
"Unnh." The moan comes from the chair behind him. "Whuh- where am I?"
Showtime, Deacon thinks, and rolls to his feet.
"Hey-hey, you're awake." They hadn't really run their play in advance—when do they ever?—but the jittery spill of words comes to his tongue as easy as breathing. Whisper’s better at quiet intimidation, when it comes to that. Deacon’s at his best when you give him a chance to ramble. "He-ey-ey, little man, how you feelin'? That night-night juice hit you pretty hard, yeah?"
"The- wha?"
“The night-night juice, little man, the rockout knockout. Y’know, the good stuff.” He circles the chair, too fast for the chemist to catch a look at his face, and goes to the other corner of the room. It forces the chemist to twist around if he wants to keep an eye on him, which he does, letting him feel his bonds for the first time. When Deacon comes back with a chair of his own, his eyes are wide with the hazy beginnings of panic.
“What- what’s going on?”
Deacon slaps the chair down in front of him and straddles it backwards, heels bouncing with an overflow of energy that translates into the tapping of his fingers, the slight twitch in his cheeks and the fast, too-frequent blink. Jet jitters, which is something no pampered Institute scientist should recognize. But this guy, Deacon can see it in his eyes. This guy recognizes it just fine.
And it’s not just the jitters that the chemist is seeing, but Deacon’s face, clearly in his line of sight for the first time. The lazy smears of grease paint, the reddened eyes, the needle-marked cheeks: all the things that mark him a raider, and maybe it wouldn’t take a waster to recognize him as a danger, but only a waster would react with such visceral fear. Only a waster would know, as this guy clearly knows, just how truly and deeply screwed he actually is. Institute agents are more arrogant than that; they’d look around at the blood-spattered walls, the meat hooks with their grisly prizes dangling from the ceilings, and they’d look at Deacon’s jet-addled face and think, they’re only savages, I can manage this. It’s the Institute way. They can’t quite seem to help themselves.
But it seems like they’re not actually dealing with an Institute agent, or at least not a homegrown one. No, this boy’s a local. Which means that a) Whisper owes him another ten caps, and b) they’ve got an in.
“See, it goes down like-” Deacon mimes a diving bird with his hands, and the chemist’s eyes follow it helplessly before snapping back to his face. “Little birdie says, new player in town, right? And Boss is all like, naw, man, no way, nobody’d push in on our turf, right-right? Only birdie says yeah, new player, sellin’ big. And Boss, Boss is tops, yeah, Boss don’t take that from nobody, and Boss figures, better find out who, yeah? Have a little talk. Maybe the new guy don’t know how business is run, right-right? Nice thing to do, explaining. Good neighbors.”
Deacon pauses expectantly, grinning at his own joke, and the chemist nods back, a little frantic, trying to hide it. Deacon rewards him with a bigger grin, the better to show the blackened teeth and greying gums. It’d taken him twenty minutes just to do the mouth, earlier; it’d be a shame not to show it off.
“So when outside guards went chasing ghouls, Boss-” This time his gesture is more like a darting fish, all smooth and graceful. “Only nobody figured on chrome dome types, yeah? So Boss got to thinking, maybe we need to talk about something else, yeah? Maybe we talk about why chrome domes are in our town. Not good neighbours.” Deacon sits back in his chair and spread his hands in a shrug. “So. Here you are.”
The chemist swallows hard. “Y-yeah. Here I am.”
Deacon gives him an empty smile. “So. We gonna talk? You gonna tell us what we need?”
The chemist shifts, not like he’s testing his bonds, exactly, more like he’s reminding himself they’re there. “I’ll, uh. I’ll certainly try.”
“Well now, friend, that’s mighty appreciated.” Whisper’s lazy drawl comes from the doorway, and the chemist flinches at her soundless approach, his eyes rolling wildly in her direction. The way his chair is angled, he can’t really see more than her basic outline, but Whisper obligingly closes in, lounging hipshot against counter a few feet to Deacon’s left and giving the chemist a clear view of her face. From the way he goes pale, it’s not the most reassuring sight.
Deacon two, civvies zero. Am I good, or am I good?
Deacon lets real happiness leak into his grin when he twists around to look up at her, knowing that it just looks macabre from underneath all the grease paint. "Hey-hey, boss lady." He lets his eyes trawl up and down her frame, obvious enough even the chemist will notice, and has to suppress a very timing-inappropriate giggle when he notices that her lazily-slicked up raider's mohawk is starting to list sideways a little. She doesn't have a lot of extra hair to hold, but the grease they had on hand isn't doing so hot in the late September heat. "This is Boss," he explains needlessly to the chemist, with the cheerful, earnest tones of a child. "Boss is tops."
"Well, I try." Whisper has to shift to be able to fold her arms over her chest—the only coat she managed to scrounge up quite in her size had some fairly substantial armor pieces pre-attached, as it were, and he knows it's fucking up her sense of balance—but she manages to make the gesture look graceful, purposeful. All of the spiky bits sticking off of her probably don't hurt, either. "What's our new friend here think, huh? Does he think I'm the tops?"
The chemist looks, for a moment, so completely out to sea that Deacon almost starts laughing and ruins the entire thing. "Uhm-"
"She's just joshin' ya, man," Deacon tells him. "Boss is like that. Boss likes her jokes."
Whisper smiles thinly at the chemist, when his nervous glance darts to her. "I'm a funny gal," Whisper says, her voice as flat and cold as death itself. The chemist's breath starts coming in faster. "You can ask anyone."
Deacon watches the wavering green line on Whisper's Pip-boy stutter and blink before settling into something like steady, and smiles inwardly to himself. They've taken him all the way from unconscious to near full-blown panic, which means that they've got their baseline. Now the real fun can start.
He lets one hand drop to his knee and starts drumming his fingers. "Ask him, Boss," Deacon says. "Ask him about the tin men."
"Yeah, that is a good question." Whisper cocks her head. "We thought you all were just some kinda small-time joint, trying to muscle in on our territory. Your product was good, so we figured we'd take you if we could, make you cook for us instead. Only your men weren't Gunners, or mercs, or good old-fashioned bully boys like my man, here." (Deacon grins obligingly.) "You were there with a bunch of synths, and that makes you Institute."
"No!" the chemist blurts. "No, I'd never- They came to me. I didn't have any choice."
"They do that," Whisper nods. There's sympathy on her pretty face, under the heavy black of the grease paint. It almost looks grotesque. "Almost left you there—not lookin' to tangle with no tin men—but we need a good cook. Last one liked his own product too much."
The chemist straightens slightly in his bonds, his chin going up a little. "Yeah?" he says, and Deacon can see it, then- the tiniest shadow of calculation. Not Institute arrogance, if he had to guess, but something not far off. Something that says, I'm smarter than they are, and they need me, like they've given him some kind of opening and now the situation's his to manage. "You're in luck, then. I'm the best damned chemist in the Commonwealth."
And that's how they got you, Deacon thinks, only a little sadly. He can't blame the man for it. Everyone's got their soft spots, their buttons to push and levers to pull, if you know where to look. He's seen dozens of men just like this guy fall because they're just smart enough to be useful without enough savvy to know when they're outmatched, and the Institute takes them, and uses them, and then throws them away, and they never figure out where the hell they went wrong.
"Only one problem, though." Whisper picks idly at one thumbnail. "How do I know this isn't some trick? You hear it all the time, people workin' with the Institute. I let you out of that chair, maybe you just bide your time, call the chrome domes down on us while we're sleepin'."
"No! No, I wouldn't. I never want to see those things again. I'd do anything."
Honest, Deacon thinks. Probably a little more honest than the guy really meant to be, judging by the way he reels himself back as soon as the words are out of his mouth. He flattens his palm against his thigh, letting his gaze slide ways towards Whisper. Bring it home, partner.
"Anything, huh?" She uncrosses her arms, leans forward with her palms braced on her knees. "Gotta admit, I like the sound of that."
"Yeah?" the chemist says, shaky underneath his best attempt at bravado, and for the first time, Deacon realizes that he's younger than they thought. Not much older than Deacon was when he fell in with the Railroad, probably. "I mean- yeah. Of course you do. I'm the best you're going to get."
"That's as may be, kid," and Deacon knows Whisper saw the same thing he did, from the way her voice gets a little rougher. Fighting the surge of sympathy. "But I gotta know for sure that this was a rescue job, not a, whaddaya call 'em, Trogan things."
"Trojan Horse?"
"Yeah, sure," and she shrugs away the correction. "I need to be sure, you get me? I take care of my people."
The chemist tries out a smile. "Good thing, if I'm going to be one of them."
"Which means," Whisper continues, as if he hadn't spoken, "that you're gonna tell me how you got stuck with those chrome domes. Every damn thing, and if I think you're leaving anything out-" She leaves the threat unfinished, and the chemist goes pale again, some of his cockiness leaking away.
"I won't," he promises, and then he swallows hard and looks back to her. "What do you want to know?"

Glenn Close: You lose power if you get angry
From vengeful mistress to Agatha Christie matriarch: the actor talks about Harvey Weinstein, mental illness and growing up in a cult
Glenn Close and I sit at the corner of a large boardroom table in an intimidatingly minimalist office on the 14th floor of a Los Angeles talent agency. Its the kind of environment in which Patty Hewes, the ruthless lawyer Close played in Damages for five seasons, would feel at home and Im almost waiting for her to stand up, slam both hands on the table and shout, Ill rip your face off or any of the other terrifying put-downs that defined her double Emmy award-winning performance.
But Close is in high spirits and radiates such warmth I barely notice the chill from the tower blocks air-con. After we fiddle with the settings on our swivel chairs, which are so high they make anyone under six foot kick their legs like a child on a swing, the 70-year-old, six-time Oscar nominee and star of stage, television and film starts telling me about her dreams. I have had a lot recently, full of this wonderful love for a younger man. The dreams just keep coming and I wake up thinking, that was wonderful! It wasnt necessarily us doing the sexual act, just the feeling of love.
With her white hair cut to a sharp crop, and wearing a relaxed navy blazer, chinos and black scarf on account of the arctic corporate temperature, she looks stylish and fit. I have never felt better in my life, and I am, like, 70, she says. Im really a late bloomer.
She says she feels a disconnect between how she sees herself and how people may view me when I walk down the street, like: Theres an old lady. You know, there is now this cult of the model. Everyone on the red carpet is made into a model. That is very hard to not play into I have a bit of podge I am trying to get rid of, but its hard. I just think, Oh fuck, Ive been doing this my whole life! But the irony is, you just get better and better with age. You dont feel less alive or less sexy.
In Agatha Christies Crooked House. Photograph: Nick Wall
We are here to talk about Crooked House, the Agatha Christie adaptation debuting on Channel 5, before its theatrical release, in which Close plays Lady Edith, a matriarch of a very dysfunctional family. Close says, Christies grandson came to the set and he validated the fact that it was her favourite book, and the one that had never been adapted. He said when she handed it to the publisher, she was told she had to change the ending, because it was too upsetting and controversial. She refused. Its still pretty controversial.
This production, co-written by Julian Fellowes, might not be as spendy as Kenneth Branaghs $55m Murder On The Orient Express, but the ensemble cast is equally starry: joining Close are Gillian Anderson, Max Irons, Terence Stamp and Christina Hendricks. Close presides over her co-stars with gravitas and grace, in an understated performance that finds the humour in an otherwise bleak setup. But youd expect nothing less from the actor whose 40 years in the business started with star turns in Broadway productions (she won a Best Actress Tony in 1983 for Tom Stoppards The Real Thing). Her first film role, at the age of 35, was with Robin Williams in The World According To Garp, for which she received an Oscar nomination as she did for her supporting roles in The Big Chill and The Natural. Her performances in Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons and Albert Nobbs, about the life of a transgender butler in late 19th century Ireland, which she also co-wrote, racked up further Oscar nominations but still no win. This is seen by many as a travesty: Close brings a precision to her film work, honed through her years on stage. She has that rare taut quality Jack Nicholson also has it where you believe that beneath the steely control she is capable of snapping at any moment.
It was this that led Andrew Lloyd Webber to cast her in 1993 as the tragic silent movie star Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway. Close reprised the role 23 years later, getting her old costumes out of storage (she has kept all her costumes and recently donated the collection to a university in Indiana) for its revival in Londons West End.
As Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction: Clearly she had mental health issues. Photograph: Rex/Shutterstock
But it was her Oscar-nominated turn as Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction in 1987 that proved career-defining. Thirty years on, Close still counts Forrest as the character of whom she feels most fond; she has admitted to fighting tooth and nail against the films eventual denouement, which turned the character into a bunny-boiling psychopath and Close into the casting directors go-to woman on the verge for years afterwards. Now we have the vocabulary to talk about these things, clearly she had mental health issues, she says.
Close sits regally still as she speaks, emphasising her points by leaning forward and locking eyes. Shes comfortable with silences and often takes a theatrical beat or two before answering questions. Shes all poise and control, but does she ever lose her temper?
I express my feelings quietly. I am not afraid of confrontation, but I am not particularly good at it. If I get attacked, I am not good at attacking back. There is fight, flight and freeze and I tend to freeze. That is not a strength of mine. I love the fact that my daughter Annie [Starke, an actor] is more of a fighter than I am. She doesnt let people get away with shit. While she agrees that women have a harder time being angry, publicly, than men, she says, I have played a lot of characters, and actually anger makes you lose power. Patty Hewes [in Damages] she hardly ever lost her temper, but when she did, it was very specific. I have always felt you lose power if you get that angry.
The collective outpouring of anger among women in Hollywood right now is something of which Close is acutely aware. She says that sexism in the industry has shifted more slowly than it should have done throughout her career: It took Harvey Weinstein and someone calling him out [for real change to happen]. I know Harvey, and he has never done that to me, but people would say he was a pig. I never knew that it was that bad and I dont personally know anybody who has endured that. I would like to think that I would have done something about it.
We discuss whether its possible to separate the work from the personalities involved in it. News has just broken that House Of Cards will be back for another series without Kevin Spacey, after it was originally canned because of harassment claims brought against its leading man. Close wraps her scarf around her chest and fixes me with her electric eyes. Artists, to make a huge generality, walk on a very thin line. Sometimes, like my beloved friend Robin Williams, who was one step away from madness, whatever makes them a great artist also makes them very complicated human beings. Again, that doesnt mean they can prey on and abuse people.
With Harvey Weinstein in 2013. Photograph: Mike Coppola/Getty Images
At the root of the problem of sexism in Hollywood right now is, Close says, biology. I think the way men have treated women, from the beginning of time, is because they have different brains to women. So I am not surprised by it at all. I say to a guy, Tell me the truth, if you see a woman walk into a room, what is the first thought that goes through your head? His answer, always, is, Would I fuck her? It doesnt mean they act on it. If you can evolve into a society where men know that they should not always act on it then there has been a positive revolution. But you cant just say that theyre not going to have the thought that is ridiculous. It also has to be the women, who are not powerful, to be OK to say no and leave the room. I think its unrealistic to say were going to change but we have to evolve.
I ask Close who she thinks is a great man today. She is silent, thinking, for what feels like a full 60 seconds in which I am so tempted to throw out some options: Barack Obama, the Pope, the friendly security guard on reception who let us in
Nelson Mandela, is her final answer, but Im not sure shes convinced. I guess for me, she says, greatness is taking your humanity and still doing the good thing. Its sad to say that there are very few men, who are leaders, who have some sort of moral code that they dont deviate from because of popular opinion.
She thinks we are undergoing a crisis of masculinity: In the public mind, yes. I was outraged when I heard that there was a war against men I was like, are you joking? What do you think has been happening against women for centuries?
Close knows all too well about the misuse of power, because her own upbringing was, as she puts it, complicated. When she was seven, her parents joined a cult. Moral Re-Armament or MRA was a modern, nondenominational movement founded by an American evangelical fundamentalist which extolled the four absolutes: honesty, purity, unselfishness and love. Her father, a physician working in the Congo, sent Close with her brother and two sisters from the family home in Greenwich, Connecticut, to live at the MRA HQ in Caux, Switzerland (Closes mother, Bettine, was a socialite).
She is vague on the details but clear on the impact this experience had on her as a teenager: I was repressed, clueless and guilt-ridden. The timeline is patchy, but Close travelled with MRA in the 60s as a member of their musical groups, and spent time back in Connecticut at an elite boarding school. I had a wonderful time at Rosemary Hall, a girls school, she says. I was in a renegade singing group called the Fingernails: A Group With Polish. But she remained, as she calls it clueless. A lot of my friends knew boys youd have these horrendous dances with boys schools and they would get the guys they wanted and I would just stay with the person I was with.
As Patty Hewes in Damages. Photograph: Rex/Shutterstock
She was briefly married before going to university. It is a complicated story for me. I was married before college, and kind of in an arranged marriage when you look back on it, and my marriage broke up when I went to college, as it should have. I was 22. But my liberal arts school had a wonderful theatre that was my training, my acting school.
Was that where she finally learned about sex, popular culture, the ways of the world? Not really, she says. I still am learning.
Close has two sisters, Tina the eldest, and Jessie her younger sister; and two brothers, Alexander, and Tambu Misoki, who was adopted by Closes parents while living in Africa. At the age of 50, Jessie spent time in a psychiatric hospital and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a weight that had been hanging over the family, undiscussed, for years. Talking about mental illness just wasnt done, Close says. You dont have a vocabulary for it and youre also very aware of appearances. You dont want to appear a crazy family.
In 2010 Close founded Bring Change to Mind, a charity that aims to end the stigma around mental illness by talking openly about it and its effect on families. It was my nephew who was first diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. This is basically schizophrenia with an ingredient of bipolar. And when that happened, it was like, What? My sister Jessie, his mother, didnt know what was wrong. He went to the hospital for two years and that saved his life. Then Jessie was, finally, correctly diagnosed herself.
With sister Jessie in 2009. Photograph: Getty Images
Close felt a duty to her family to give them a high-profile person who is not afraid to talk about it publicly. It affects the whole family. We always knew my grandmother and mother had depression my sister does, I do to a certain extent. But I didnt know my great-uncle had schizophrenia. I knew my half-uncle died by suicide. There was a lot of alcoholism addiction, self-medication. Nobody ever talked about it. I knew my grandmother was depressed, but at first I thought she lived in a hotel, not a hospital, because she always said how good the food was.
Close says she and her siblings are of one mind politically, but admits she does have members of her family who voted for Trump. I tried to understand that. Theyre not crazy people who have been brainwashed by Fox News, but I try to understand the anger, because I think that has been building up ever since Watergate. It was watching that scandal unfold that made her realise Americans have always been naive, we just take for granted what we have, and we always thought of our leaders as good people. With Watergate, people became cynical about government.
Today, she says, Washington is a bunch of self-serving She searches for an expletive and after a second settles on men. She says, Its hard to believe that people are so out for themselves. It goes against what you would like to believe about your country. I feel eloquence is incredibly important for a leader, and we had that with Barack Obama, who made his initial impact because he gave that incredibly eloquent speech, but he lost his eloquence in his presidency. We always need someone to say, I hear you, someone who can put their words into unity and hope and we dont have that. I think the last person may have been Robert Kennedy.
And now you have Trump tweeting nonsense.
Its devastating. Social networks are now like our nervous system, and if you keep pumping that kind of crap into the nervous system, it is going to have an effect on a population.
With Kevin Kline in The Big Chill. Photograph: Rex/Shutterstock
Close doesnt talk politics with her friends because she doesnt really have many friends. I have always forced myself into situations I am not comfortable in. I am an introvert, and I was painfully shy as a child. I think I still have a big dollop of that in my persona. I read a book called Quiet: The Power Of Introverts In A World That Cant Stop Talking and it was a real comfort to me I realised I was that person I had always been. And it was at that point I told myself to stop pushing myself into situations that I dont enjoy. I dread cocktail parties.
She tells me shes pretty reclusive and can count her closest friends on two fingers. I ask if shes still good friends with Meryl Streep.
I have never been close friends with Meryl. We have huge respect for each other, but I have only done one thing with her, The House Of The Spirits.
I apologise for assuming they were pals, being of a similar age and stature in Hollywood, and admit this negates my next question: Who would win in an arm wrestle, you or Meryl?
Close laughs. Oh, I would, because I am very strong.
***
The tightest bond Close has is with her only daughter Annie, 29. Annies father is the film producer John Starke whom Close dated for four years from 1987, but never married. Annie was never a door-slamming, difficult teenager. Close tells me: When my Annie was three, she looked at me, and said, I want you. I knew what she meant. I, at the time, was a single working parent, sometimes even when I was home, working or producing something, I was there and not there.
With daughter Annie Starke in 2010. Photograph: Rex/Shutterstock
She doesnt think its any easier for working mothers today and acknowledges, I had it easy because I could afford to have help think of the women who cant afford it and have to put their child in some shaky childcare centre. No, I think it is incredibly hard for women. Any person, in any profession, feels that tug [of guilt]. We discuss the intimacy of the single-parent, only-child bond. Once, I went to vacuum Annies car seat as we were moving house, and a lot of life had happened there, so I was crying. She said, Mummy, are you OK? I said, Yeah, Im OK. And she said, Here I am.
She was married to businessman James Marlas from 1984 to 1987 and then, following other relationships, including that with Starke, she married again, in 2006, to venture capitalist David Evans Shaw, divorcing him nine years later.
Would she marry again?
I dont know.
Does she think marriage is important?
I think it is a positive evolutionary component that we are better with a partner. I think to have a partner that you can go through life with, creating a history with, that you can find a comfort with, have children with there is nothing better. This is an opinion I have come to very late in life, at an ironic moment, where I dont have any of that. I dont know if I will again. But I do think its a basic human need to be connected.
Despite this, shes happy on her own right now. This is a good time in life. I do think, what would it be like to have a partner again? But it would have to be very different from what I had before. Then I have that great dream and wake up happy.

Crossing Broad Week 6 Eagles Predictions
After an embarrassing home loss to the Vikings on Sunday, the Eagles are quickly back in action tonight as they travel up 95 to take on the New York Giants in their first NFC East game of the season. Kickoff is at 8:20 PM on Fox.
The Eagles are favored at -1, according to Fanduel Sportsbook.
Our predictions are after the jump:
Chris: I honestly don’t like the direction this team is going. The Giants aren’t good, but they’re not going to let down. Especially with what happened with Odell Beckham Jr. this week, it could be some kind of wake-up call for the Giants. Same for the Eagles, who don’t have Jay Ajayi and possibly even Lane Johnson. I think the skid continues for the Birds. Giants 24, Eagles 20 (Giants +1).
Jeff: The defense – if you look at the numbers – actually hasn’t been THAT bad. (I mean Jalen Mills has, but we’re not rehashing that for the 300th time). Seems that the difference between this year and last is that the ball just isn’t bouncing their way as much so far this season. It happens.
Anyway, the Giants appear to be a banged-up mess and Eli in the rain would seem to be less than ideal for BIG BLUE. These games are always close and I’m very worried about this one, and yet something deep inside of me is churning like Hurricane Michael, just penetrating that fear and making me think the Birds could actually blow this one open.
This is a perfect time to see if they still GOT IT, what with half the city seemingly giving up on the season already. Break out the dog masks–it starts tonight. Eagles 33, Giants 14 (Eagles -1).
Mike: ???
Tim: The Eagles have a knack for saving their season in New York (see: Brian Westbrook punt return touchdown, Miracle at the Meadowlands I and II). Why not now? It’s going to take a serious commitment to running the football and emphasizing quick passes, especially with a banged up offensive line that has two injury question marks at the tackle positions. I think the Eagles grind it out in what will be a low-score game. Eagles 17, Giants 14 (Eagles -1).
Coggin: Got my first prediction correct last weekend so let’s keep this shit train rolling. Eagles win ugly in the terrible weather in a HORRENDOUS game to keep their season alive. Eagles 17, Giants 13 (Eagles -1).
Phil: The Eagles have a winning streak in them. They’re going to need it after tonight. Still too many injuries, still too much sloppy play, still no ability to get off the field on defense, still basically sniffing themselves after last season. Maybe this loss will snap them out of it. Let’s hope so. Because if they couldn’t deal with Minnesota’s receivers, OBJ’s numbers tonight could be record-setting, bad weather or not. That Barkley guy can play a little, too. Giants 26, Eagles 20 (Giants +1).
Anthony: (Read to the Tune of Meredith Wilson’s “You Got Trouble” from The Music Man) (Enjoy)
Friend, either you’re closing your eyes To a situation you do not wish to acknowledge Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated By the presence of a struggling football team in your community Well, ya got trouble, my friend, right here I say, trouble right here in our City Why sure I’m a football watcher Certainly mighty proud I say I’m always mighty proud to say it I consider that the hours I spend Watching Red Zone are golden Help you cultivate horse sense And a cool head and a keen eye J’ever take and try to find An iron-clad prediction for yourself From a three-loss prognosticator? But just as I say It takes judgment, brains, and maturity to score In a betting game I say that any boob can take And shove a ball in the end zone And I call that sloth The first big step on the road To the depths of deg-ra-day– I say, first, medicinal wine from a teaspoon Then beer from a bottle! An’ the next thing ya know Your son is bettin’ for money In a pinch-back suit And list’nin to some big out-a-town jasper Hearin’ him tell about horse-race gamblin’ Not a wholesome trottin’ race, no! But a race where they set down right on the horse! Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy Settin’ on a Horse at Harrah’s Racetrack in Chester? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say Now, friends, lemme tell you what I mean Ya got one, two, three, four, five, offensive linemen Linemen that mark the diff’rence Between a gentlemen and a bum With a capital “B,” And that rhymes with “E” and that stands for Eagles! And all week long your Philadelphia Youth’ll be fritterin’ away I say your young men’ll be fritterin’! Fritterin’ away their noontime, suppertime, choretime too! Get the ball in the end zone Never mind gettin’ the D end blocked Or the wide receiver covered or the quarterback pounded (that’s a penalty) Never mind your receivers running routes and getting open ‘Til Carson’s caught with nowhere to throw On a Thursday night and that’s trouble Yes you got lots and lots of trouble I’m thinkin’ of the kids still wearing the Super Bowl T-shirts Nostalgic young ones, peekin’ in the Delco bar window after school to see the game tonight, ya got trouble, folks! Right here in Philadelphia Trouble with a capital “T” And that rhymes with “E” and that stands for Eagles!
Now, I know all you folks are the right kind of parents I’m gonna be perfectly frank Would ya like to know what kinda conversation goes On while they’re loafin’ outside that bar? They be tryin’ out JUUL, tryin’ out e-cigs Tryin’ out Vapes like cigarette fiends! And braggin’ all about How they’re gonna cover up a tell-tale breath with Tic-Tacs. One fine night, they leave the Bar, Headin’ for a shortie at Wawa! Libertine men and Scarlet women! And Garbage-time yards being accumulated to shameless music That’ll grab your son, your daughter With the arms of a jungle animal instinct! Mass-steria! Friends, the idle brain is the devil’s playground! Because this is what’s going to happen in Philadelphia after the Eagles Lose tonight to the Giants – 30-27. Yeah, You got trouble… Giants 30, Eagles 27 (Giants +1).
Bob: I did a betting guide for tonight’s game, so check that out as well. Eagles 27, Giants 23 (Eagles -1).
Russ: Thursday night games are often sloppy and borderline unwatchable. Add in the rain, bad o-line play, one QB who can’t throw, another who might over think everything for fear of twisting his knee, and historically awful secondary play and you have yourself one of those, “Why did I stay up til midnight watching this crap” kind of evenings. Good luck getting through it. Giants 20, Eagles 13 (Giants +1).
Kevin: Both teams will look like shit. The Birds will be less shitty and win. Eagles 21, Giants 17 (Eagles -1).
Kyle: The offense has nowhere to go but up, and the Giants, as it may turn out, are the antidote to a struggling secondary. The Birds find their footing tonight, though not in a blowout. Eagles 28, Giants 25 (Eagles -1).

A timeline of how we got to legalized sports betting

A timeline of how we got to legalized sports betting
The prohibition of alcohol began January 17, 1920, when the 18th Amendment took effect, making the business of booze illegal.
Drinking initially declined, but was of course not eliminated. Those who indulged simply participated in the thriving, unregulated black market that was run by organized crime and bootleggers. Consumer protections were lacking. Industrial-strength alcohol, including the kind designed for fuel, was stirred into some batches of bathtub gin, causing people to go blind and killing many others.
The Prohibition Era lasted 13 years, before the 21st Amendment nullified the 18th Amendment on Dec. 5, 1933, repealing the ban on alcohol.
Another prohibition of an American pastime was put in place in 1992 and lasted twice as long as the alcohol ban.
For 26 years, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 made the business of bookmaking illegal in all but a handful of states, most notably Nevada. Much like with alcohol during the Prohibition Era, those interested in betting on sports outside of Nevada simply participated in a thriving black market that’s believed to handle an estimated $150 billion in bets annually.
On May 14, 2018, the sports betting prohibition era ended, with a resounding Supreme Court decision that struck down PASPA and set the country on a path to widespread legal sports betting.
Here is a look back at some memorable moments from the past three decades in American sports betting.
Aug. 24, 1989
Major League Baseball commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti releases a 225-page report detailing Pete Rose’s gambling and bans the game’s all-time hits leader from baseball.
“The banishment for life of Pete Rose from baseball is the sad end of a sorry episode,” Giamatti says in the statement. “One of the game’s greatest players has engaged in a variety of acts which have stained the game, and he must now live with the consequences of those acts. By choosing not to come to a hearing before me, and by choosing not to proffer any testimony of evidence contrary to the evidence and information contained in the report of the Special Counsel to the Commissioner, Mr. Rose has accepted baseball’s ultimate sanction, lifetime ineligibility.”
Jan. 3, 1991
Here is ESPN Chalk’s one-stop shop of all relevant content, following the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of New Jersey.
The Supreme Court ruled in New Jersey, opening the doors for states to introduce legislation for legalized sports betting. Ryan Rodenberg checks in on where each U.S. state (and Washington, D.C.) stands.
With every U.S. state now available to offer sports betting, professional sports owners are among the big winners. But what about Twitter, illegal bookmakers and the NCAA? We run through winners and losers.

House Bill 74, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), is introduced in the House of Representatives. The companion bill, Senate Bill 474, is released the following February and is backed by prominent U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley, a former NBA player, as well as the NCAA and major professional sports leagues.
“Athletes are not roulette chips, but sports gambling treats them as such,” Bradley writes in an academic paper. “If the dangers of state sponsored sports betting are not confronted, the character of sports and youngsters’ view of them could be seriously threatened.”
June 2, 1992
The U.S. Senate votes 88-5 in favor of passing PASPA. The House of Representatives follows with a voice vote — something that normally takes place after bills receive overwhelming support in the Senate — and sends the bill to President George H.W. Bush.
“It was very non-controversial,” recalled then-U.S. Rep. Tom McMillen, a former NBA player, who voted for PASPA. “It was right in the Pete Rose aftermath.”
Oct. 28, 1992
President George H.W. Bush signs the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act into law.
Feb. 20, 1993
A team of researchers at the University of Illinois introduce Mosaic, which eventually becomes Netscape, the first popular internet browser available to the public. Soon after, underground bookmaking operations gravitate to the internet, leading to the rise of the offshore sports betting industry that illegally serves U.S. bettors.
Dec. 31, 1993
One year after PASPA was put in place, Nevada’s regulated sports betting market takes an all-time high $2 billion in wagers for the year.
Jan. 27, 1994
Arizona State hosts Oregon State in a Pac-10 college basketball game. It is the first of four games later found to be fixed for gambling purposes by Sun Devils’ star guard Stevin “Hedake” Smith.

President Bill Clinton establishes a commission to study the social and economic impacts of gaming in the United States.
“The Commission will help draw attention to the growth of the gambling industry and its consequences,” Clinton wrote in a statement announcing the commission. “Too often, public officials view gambling as a quick and easy way to raise revenues, without focusing on gambling’s hidden social, economic, and political costs. The Commission will report on all of the effects of gambling to the President and the Congress.”
The commission then issues the National Gambling Impact Study in 1999, noting that estimates of the scope of the illegal sports betting market in the U.S. ranged between $80 billion and $380 billion.
“Even when Americans understand the illegality of sports wagering, it is easy to participate in, widely accepted, very popular and, at present, not likely to be prosecuted,” the report states.
Earlier that year, the first online sportsbook to take bets from U.S. customers, Intertops, opened for business.
Oct. 26, 1996
Boston College, a 13.5-point underdog, loses to Syracuse 45-13. Two weeks later, Boston College suspends 13 players for placing bets on college and professional sports. Investigators allege that two of the players — reserves who didn’t play significant minutes — bet against the Eagles in the Syracuse game.
”We have found absolutely no evidence, no indication of any game, the outcome of any game, the score of any game … was influenced or compromised in any way by players for Boston College,” a local district attorney says at a news conference announcing the investigation.
March 27, 1998
Two former Northwestern basketball players, Kenneth Dion Lee and Dewey Williams, are indicted on charges that they took bribes to fix Big Ten games during the 1994-95 season. Prosecutors alleged that Lee and Williams were paid $4,000 to influence home games against Wisconsin and Penn State in an effort to make Northwestern lose by more than the point spread.
“Illegal sports wagering continues to grow and is believed to exist in one form or another on virtually every college campus in America,” National Collegiate Athletic Association’s anti-gambling representative Bill Saum told The New York Times regarding the scandal at Northwestern.
Feb. 10, 2001
UNLV hosts BYU in college basketball. It’s the first UNLV game that Nevada sportsbooks are allowed to accept bets on, ending a 40-plus-year ban on wagering on the state schools.
April 4, 2001
U.S. Senator John McCain introduces the Amateur Sports Integrity Act, a bill aimed at banning betting on college sports, including in Nevada. Facing stiff lobbying opposition from the gaming industry, the bill doesn’t make it out of committee and is defeated.
Dec. 21, 2005
Toledo running back Quinton Broussard fumbles late in the first half of the GMAC Bowl against UTEP. Years later, Broussard admitted in court that, in exchange for $500, he fumbled on purpose in attempt to manipulate the bowl game’s outcome. Six Toledo student-athletes, including three basketball players and three football players, were ultimately indicted on conspiracy to commit sports bribery charges.
Oct. 13, 2006

March 30, 2007
Former New Jersey assemblyman and mayor of Union City Raul “Rudy” Garcia surrenders to authorities after a warrant for his arrest is issued in connection with a sports betting operation.
“Rudy, a friend and former colleague, was merely placing a bet for himself and a few friends,” retired New Jersey Sen. Raymond Lesniak said. “Charges were ultimately dropped, but it started my challenge to overturn the federal ban on sports betting.”
July 24, 2007
NBA commissioner David Stern holds a press conference regarding gambling allegations against referee Tim Donaghy. Weeks later, Donaghy pleads guilty to two felony counts, admitting that he passed information to professional gamblers and bet on games, including some of which he officiated.
“I feel betrayed by what happened on behalf of the sport regardless of how protective I’ve been,” Stern said. “This is not something that is anything other than an act of betrayal of what we know in sports as a sacred trust.”

March 23, 2009
Lobbying group Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMEGA), along with Sen. Lesniak and three New Jersey horsemen associations, file suit against the then-U.S. attorney general Eric Holder and U.S. attorney for the district of New Jersey Ralph J. Marra. The suit was ultimately dismissed due to lack of standing.
May 6, 2009
Six Toledo student-athletes are indicted on conspiracy to commit sports bribery.
“Today’s charges shine a light into the dark corner of illegal sports bookmaking and reveals the unfortunate consequences that the influence of money from betting can have on the integrity of both athletes and athletic contests,” U.S. Attorney Terrence Berg said in a statement announcing the indictment.
July 2, 2009

May 23, 2011
On a day known as “Blue Monday” in the gambling world, 10 online gambling domains, including multiple offshore sportbooks, are seized by the U.S. Department of Justice. Several of the sportsbooks simply changed the extension on their URL, moving, for example, from .com to .eu, and continued operating. However, one book — BetED.com — was forced to shut down, leaving players without their funds. The bust occurred after the Department of Justice indicted top executives from the major online poker sites serving the United States: PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.

Feb. 5, 2015
New MLB commissioner Rob Manfred tells ESPN’s Outside the Lines that the legalization of sports betting needs “fresh consideration.”
“Gambling in terms of our society has changed its presence on legalization,” Manfred said, “and I think it’s important for there to be a conversation between me and the owners about what our institutional position will be.”
Weeks later, Manfred appears at the MIT Sloan Conference and says that he agrees with Adam Silver on the issue.

Heute gesehen: Das Geheimnis der gelben Narzissen (engl. Verleihtitel: Daffodil Killer oder auch The Devil's Daffodil), Spielfilm, BRD / Großbritannien, 1961. Erstaufführung (BRD): 20. Juli 1961, Verleih: Prisma Filmverleih, FSK: 16, Laufzeit: 94 Min., Bild: s/w, Bildseitenverhältnis: 1,66:1. Produktion: Omnia Pictures Ltd., Rialto Film. Regie: Akos von Rathony (d.i. Ákos Ráthonyi). Drehbuch: Basil Dawson und Donald Taylor, Dialoge: Horst Wendlandt und Gerhard F. Hummel nach einer Vorlage von Edgar Wallace. Musik: Keith Papworth. Kamera: Desmond Dickinson. Darsteller (dt. Fassung): Joachim Fuchsberger, Sabine Sesselmann, Albert Lieven u.a. IMDB-Bewertung: 5.6/10

Darsteller
Joachim Fuchsberger: Jack Tarling
Sabine Sesselmann (als Sabina Sesselmann): Anne Ryder
Klaus Kinski: Peter Keene
Ingrid van Bergen: Gloria, Nachtklubsängerin
Albert Lieven: Raymond Lyne
Jan Hendriks: Charles, Chaffeur von Raymond Lyne
Marius Goring: Oliver Milburgh
Peter Illing: Mr. Putek, Nachtklubbesitzer
Walter Gotell: Oberinspektor Whiteside
Christopher Lee: Ling Chu
Bettine Le Beau: Trudi Mahler (ungenannt)
Campbell Singer: Sir Archibald, Chef von Scotland Yard (ungenannt)
Edwina Carroll: chinesisches Mädchen (ungenannt)
Martin Lyder: Max, Barmann (ungenannt)
Dawn Beret: Katya (ungenannt) u.a.
In der englischen Sprachfassung wurden Joachim Fuchsberger, Sabine Sesselmann und Klaus Kinski durch folgende Darsteller ersetzt:
William Lucas: Jack Tarling
Penelope Horner: Anne Rider (so laut IMDB)
Colin Jeavons: Peter Keene

The finest Powerball 파워볼사이트추천 games in the uk may be found
In the United Kingdom, UK National Powerball 파워볼사이트추천 토복이 offers a variety of exciting games. But which game is the finest out of all of them? EuroMillions and Thunderball are the two most popular lotteries. However, they serve quite distinct purposes. The ideal game to play if you’re a good Powerball player is dependent on your style of play.
It’s possible to play Powerball in two ways. Player 1: They aspire to a life of luxury and only participate in lotteries with the largest payouts, regardless of the chances. Because they want to win large, they play Powerball’s with the lowest chances possible. If this describes you, then EuroMillions is the game for you. That’s because the jackpots can reach hundreds of millions of pounds, and sometimes much more. A 1-in-76-million chance of winning the jackpot if you don’t win.
It’s possible that some Powerball players just want to win big. Because he wants to play games where he has a better chance of winning, he pays close attention to the odds. This style of player will do well with Thunderball. The highest reward in Thunderball is only £250,000, so it’s nowhere near as large as the jackpot in EuroMillions. In comparison to the EuroMillions, it’s a lot easier to win here. One in 3.9 million people have a chance of winning the Thunderball jackpot.
In the end, it doesn’t matter what game is most enjoyable to each player. To be successful, you need a little bit of good fortune. So, go ahead and have some fun with EuroMillions and Thunderball, or whatever other games you enjoy. Perhaps you’ll be the lucky one soon and walk away with the big prize.
Powerball has been won 최상위 파워볼사이트추천 by people from all across the world.
Even though the winners tried their best, some of the largest Powerball jackpots have handed out more money than the winners could ever spend in a lifetime. Despite the winner’s best efforts, they were unable to immediately spend their winnings.
As a result of a Mega Millions (US) Powerball drawing on March 6, 2007, two ticketholders each earned $390 million. A New Jersey native and a Georgian were the only two attendees. One particularly lucky Powerball (US) ticket won $365 million for eight persons in a Nebraska meat-processing factory syndicate on February 18, 2006. As of that year, this was the biggest single victory on the globe.
The United States is well-known for the next largest Powerball win. The Big Game (US) on May 9, 2000, brought home $363 million for Larry and Nancy Ross of California and Joe and Sue Kainz of Illinois.
People have become millionaires because of the well-known EuroMillions game, which 엔트리 파워볼사이트추천 was launched in 2004. French and Portuguese Powerball winners were among the three that won the EuroMillions jackpot on February 3, 2006. A total of EUR180 million was awarded to each of them. Irish mother of six Dolores McNamara was transformed into a multimillionaire. She became Europe’s largest Powerball winner and the world’s richest individual on July 29, 2005, when she won EUR115 million.
Ten people became millionaires in Italy’s SuperEnalotto in May 2005 when a ticket for EUR71.8 million was given to each of them. In terms of Powerball prizes, this was Italy’s biggest. Three persons purchased National Powerball tickets on January 6, 1996, and they shared a record-breaking £42 million jackpot, making it the highest reward ever awarded in the United Kingdom. The National Powerball in the United Kingdom isn’t done making Powerball players millions.
On August 10, 2007, Angela Kelly of the United Kingdom won £35.4 million in the EuroMillions Powerball. Her life was permanently changed as the UK’s single biggest winner. She won with a combination of 23-40-42-43-49 plus 2 and 6.
The odds of matching six of the winning numbers out of a possible pool of 49 for the Powerball jackpot are roughly 13,983,816 to 1. Despite this, many people continue to play the game even if they lose every time.
newcomers 토토사이트 to the world of online sports betting
For Powerball winners, these are the greatest ways to spend their winnings.
Every week, millions of people 나눔로또 파워볼사이트추천 tune in to watch the grand prize drawing of the National Powerball. In their minds, they imagine how they would spend their winnings. Even if you do manage to get the six winning Powerball numbers, your odds of winning the multi-million dollar jackpot are extremely slim (1 in approximately 14 million).
Despite the astronomical odds, a large number of people continue to play Powerball. Until either the Wednesday or Saturday draw, the money will keep rolling in.
This is especially true if you happen to be one out of 13,983,816 people who scoops up the prize. Many Powerball enthusiasts believe they’ll spend their winnings on extravagant items like fast cars, mansions, and luxury holidays, but in truth, most people’s winnings go into more mundane, though nevertheless life-altering, pursuits.
If they won the National Powerball, some people could be able to take early retirement. There is no way in hell they could go back to work. Leaving work and going to school for a dream job or a profession that wasn’t previously possible due to lack of funds could be an option for certain people. There is now less of a strain on my body.
With a portion of their Powerball winnings, it makes sense for many people to upgrade to a newer, typically Moving up in the real estate market could get you closer to your ambition of owning a swimming pool, sauna, or even a personal chef.
As a result, if you plan to spend a lot of money on fast automobiles, having a larger garage may be advantageous. For some people, the top supercars, including Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Bugattis, Sports cars, and Bentleys, will be on their list. Rare and vintage car ownership is possible for some people.
Regardless of how many numbers you correctly predict, you have a good chance of winning a large sum of money. A lot of money doesn’t mean you’ll be able to afford to live on interest alone. Powerball jackpot winners typically have instant comforts put in place, and the rest of their winnings can subsequently be invested properly by specialists, whose advice you now have access to as well.”
Powerball winners often use their windfalls 사설 파워볼사이트추천 to fund their children’s college education, buy a vacation property in another nation or get season tickets for a favorite sports team that was previously out of their reach.
Syndicates can win large on the National Powerball as well as individuals, couples, and families. If a consortium wins, the money can be divided among the winners or used to support a mutually beneficial enterprise, such as purchasing additional shares in a public limited business for which you work.
