WEST SPRINGFIELD — When UConn women’s basketball player Azzi Fudd first tore her right anterior cruciate ligament in the summer of 2019, she struggled through the physical and mental toll she faced during her recovery.

Despite the pain she endured to get back onto the court - or maybe because of that experience - Fudd remembers barely being fazed when she tore her right ACL for a second time.

“My reaction shocked me,” Fudd said on Saturday at Hooplandia. “I thought for sure I would just cry. The first time I was a mess, I cried, I was so sad. (But) when it happened this time, I felt like I kind of knew.

“I’ve been working the last few years on the mental side of the game, working on my mindset, my confidence, my self-talk... so I was like ‘Ok, I’ve been through this before, I know how big the mental aspect is - what am I going to do to help myself get through it this time and handle it a lot better than I did in high school’ because I didn’t handle it well. So when it happened (again), I was really upset, but I didn’t let myself go down that rabbit hole of what could’ve been if I was healthy.”

But even her stronger mental approach could not lessen the most difficult factor of recovery: the wait.

“Surgery was fine, all that was fine. It’s harder halfway through the season when I’ve been sitting through games, I’ve been cheering, I’ve been positive,” Fudd said. “And then it hits you, like, 10 games of just sitting on the bench cheering (and realizing) ‘I still have so many more games to sit here and cheer and still not play/’

“It’s definitely really tough, (the wait is) one of the harder things that people don’t talk about.”

Fudd stressed how important her physical rehabilitation process was in helping her regain trust in her body.

“Do your rehab, it’s so important,” Fudd said.

“I lived, ate, breathed my rehab and when it was time to come back, everyone was like, ‘Did you have doubts, did you think you were going to tear it again’, I didn’t have any doubts... because I knew all the hard work that I put in (during) my rehab process so I knew how strong my leg was, I knew what I was capable of doing because I did so much to prepare myself.”

Basketball was the driving force behind Fudd’s determination during this process and finding that reason can make all the difference.

“At the end of the day, I love basketball and that’s what I wanted to keep doing, that was my purpose behind my rehab,” Fudd said. “Some people, they might be done playing basketball, but they still want to rehab, whether it’s to play a different sport, to be a singer, to be a dancer - you’re still rehabbing for a reason. Remember what that reason is, it doesn’t have to be basketball anymore, it can be something else, but just find that reason and keep going.”

Aww Azzi, it sucks obviously that she had to go through it again, but it seems like she knew her mentality had to be and was going to be different this time around. She let herself be upset, but not to the point where she spiraled about 'what could've been.' Which is what she said at that summit a few months ago too. 100% makes sense that just sitting and waiting to play again was one of the hardest parts, Paige struggled with that too. Even when you're trying to be positive and cheer for your teammates. I hope she's really able to come back confident in her body. You really gotta be a different breed mentally to be a pro athlete and not just wanna quit lol

• Has a high pain tolerance. The most you'd get with a punch to his stomach is a small grunt. Nothing more.

• Continuing the tolerance thing, he has extremely high spice tolerance as well. Maybe to the point of not having capsaicin sensors at all. That'd be so funny honestly..

• Cold Take: Anger is Gay and Ace.

• SLIGHTLY WARM Take: He's Biromantic and Ace.

• Physically strong. Even more than Embarrassment. He could have broken through his grip no problem. Do you SEE my vision.

• Completely immune to lava (this is kinda canon already but I don't care >:>)

• Emits heat, even when he's not super angry. The other emotions use him as their personal heater- similar to Baymax in that one scene- during the winter.

• Has woken up the other emotions due to a bad dream many times. Surprisingly enough, his fire extinguisher hasn't been used yet.

• Anger is Joy's second in command.

• One kind of pain he can't tolerate are migraines (totally not projecting)

• I've mentioned this before but I like to think Anger is really good at making the others feel better, whether if it's about themselves or about how they work (gestures to the scene where he comforts Joy)

• Used to sleep with a tank top on but took it off after finding out going shirtless was way more comfortable

• Likes generally hardcore sounding music, but he doesn't mind some relaxing genres too. He ain't afraid to admit that either. He can listen to whatever the fuck he wants.

• Didn't like tea until Fear made him try it (Fear didn't like coffee until Anger made him try it)

• Doesn't have good handwriting. It's not too bad but Joy, Fear, and Anxiety wished he slowed down and wrote a little better.

• Anger is actually a very organized emotion, at least with the stuff he cares about.

• Cheeks turn cherry red when he's flustered (think of it like an opposite reaction to his orange cheeks when he's angry)

• After the events of the first movie, Anger had to *really* learn to control himself. That work definitely paid off by the second movie.

• He's actually not that bad of a dancer, yall just don't give him enough time to practice.

• Tends to babysit Envy a LOT. Says he doesn't like it but he's 100% a father figure to her now. Sorry, no takebacksies.

• PEOPLE THINK THIS MF CANT RUN OR SOME SHIT but he keeps up with the others just fine in the second movie. Dude literally works out every day how can he NOT.

• MY Anger is a good singer, but OG Anger isn't. Sorry bud. I can't see (hear) it.

• He is textbook "act now think later"

• Unintentionally an early bird. Often the first to wake up cause he needs to get shit done.

• The console was made with very durable material, specifically to withstand Ange's outbursts.

• He may be the "youngest" of the original five, but he acts like the oldest.

• Anger's love languages are quality time and acts of service.

• He was the first one to be brought down to the Belief System.

• Despite having a high spice tolerance, he's more of a savory/sweet guy.

• I love to think that Anger is unintentionally charming.... Giving him a high rizz score here. Sorry not sorry.

• Extremely protective of the other emotions. Doesn't show this side often, but when it matters, he'd fight till he fades from existence for them.

• Tried to learn origami with Joy but he kept burning the paper.

• Likes Western dragons more than Eastern dragons, he finds all kinda super interesting though.

• Owns multiple ties with the same design (this can be said about the other emotions too)

• If I were to give him an instrument, he's totally rock an electric bass, or any low sounding instrument.

• Anger is a dog person.

• Looks SUPER good with blue and black clothing. He should wear it more often.

• When he can't show affection to someone, he just punches them (toph from atla core LOL)

• Some positive aspects of his character: Loyal, compassionate, ambitious, and confident.

● Stopped reading the Mind Reader newspapers because they lost their journalistic integrity.

❄️Sunny Watches the Oldies: January Edition❄️

I got the idea to do this from one of @daughter-of-winterfell 's posts. Thanks for the inspo, Lydia! So without further ado, here are the classic musicals I've watched in the month of January with my review. (Putting everything under the cut because I'm sure I'll ramble lol.)

I'm not even sorry to admit that a majority of these movies will either star Judy Garland or Gene Kelly (or both). I went down a rabbit hole with both of them because of:

1. The Pirate (1948)

Have I watched this before January 2025? Yes, several times. But! It did set off my current classical musical journey, and I did watch it in January, so I'm including it. This movie gets better and better for me each rewatch. The songs actually take a few viewings to really appreciate (and there are still only 2 catchy ones). Loooove the costumes/hair. The storyline is hilarious...Gene Kelly and Judy Garland are hilarious - and their chemistry??? It's 🔥🔥🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥. Just look at the above gif! Like!!! This was the sexiest musical MGM ever made, and studio head Louis B. Mayer h a t e d that it was. (I swear I think he purposely made MGM not promote it as much so it wouldn't do well in the box office.) I will probably be on my deathbed thinking about what the choreography was for the Voodoo dance number that was too sexy to live lol. And it had to be...pretty graphic...due to what actually made it in the film! Gene pole dancing! The cigarette kiss! The french kisses with Judy! Judy fantasizing about Gene's thunder thighs in short shorts! The caressing! Judy's orgasmic singing while sliding down a pole in Love of My Life! The prudes of 1948 may not have appreciated it, but I did (lol)! Anyways....my only critique is I wish there was an actual duet between Judy's character and Gene's (other than Be A Clown). But other than that, I love this movie so much.

Rating: 9.5/10

How I watched: 🏴‍☠️ (heh) (Now I own it on blu-ray)

Favorite Number: Niña (the production of this number alone is INSANE. Vincente Minnelli, man...an ARTISTE🤌🏼) (also I'm sure Gene insisted on doing the 3 continuous shots at the beginning.)

Did I spot Dorothy Tuttle? Duh.

2. For Me and My Gal (1942)

My Gene Kelly/Judy Garland mania continues to their first movie together (and Gene's first ever movie). Ohhhhh myyyyy goddddd. I was actually kind of surprised at how much I liked it. The movie is set during WW1, and Gene and Judy play a joint vaudeville act trying to get the coveted performance spot at the Palace Theatre in New York. Most of the musical numbers are the characters performing either in their act or later on in the war for the troops in France. Gene's character is...very hard to like at first. He's a heel, and very ambitious, which makes him short-sighted wrt pretty much everything else - especially matters of the heart. His determination to perform at the Palace is what ultimately makes him lose Judy's character...until he redeems himself. Whereas I disagreed with the general audience's reaction to The Pirate, I do agree with them wrt this movie, because apparently they felt like he didn't do enough to redeem himself in the initial version - so they did reshoots. And I think the finale they ended up with is perfect. Hits me right in the feels! Critiques: the time marquee at the beginning drives me crazy lol. It says the year is 1916, then a lot of time passes in the film before you see a newspaper headline that the Lusitania sunk, which was in 1915. I wish they either said the time was 1914 or 15 (or not include the marquee at all haha). There were other historical inaccuracies but they were pretty minor imo and could be ignored. My other critique is I just didn't like the song Oh, You Beautiful Doll. There were so many implications in there and...blech. It's a shame that that was the only number that George Murphy performs that stayed in the movie, because it looks as though he's a great singer/dancer.

Rating: 9.5/10

How I Watched: 🏴‍☠️ (Now I own it on blu-ray)

Favorite Number: A tie between For Me and My Gal (check out how the tap portion is one continuous shot) and Ballin' the Jack (with even more great dancing)

3. Summer Stock (1950)

Gene and Judy's third and final movie where they were romantic leads 😭. Gene's character in this is the sweetest and gentlest I've ever seen him play (I think it had partly to do with what was going on bts 😭😭). When he traded his car in for a new tractor for her *swoons*...and that look on his face when the camera pans to him in the Friendly Star number?? *actually dies* And!!! 4. Ziegfeld Follies (1945)

There's no plot to this one really; it's just an excuse to show off the top MGM stars in unrelated sketches. Was only here for the musical sketches, tbh; the acting/comedy sketches were just okay. The production value in the musical sketches was incredible - I think Vincente Minnelli directed most if not all of them, so that tracks. Lucille Ball steals the show in the opening number. She enters standing on top of a ginormous horse. Iconic. I absolutely loved the first dance number with Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer...then I shouted in dismay at their second number. They were in yellowface 😩...like...why.... (And that's not even the first time I've shouted in dismay at seeing Fred in a racist as hell number. 😩) Judy's number was really funny. Fred and Gene's number make my purchasing this on blu-ray worth it. I cannot believe MGM didn't actually put them in an actual movie. I can think of a premise right now that would have been perfect for them. What a shame.

5. Cover Girl (1944)

This movie was so good that MGM never loaned out Gene again. I think his chemistry with Rita Hayworth is second behind his chemistry with Judy. Obsessed with Rita's hair and costumes. I can see why redheads of the time wanted to be called Rusty after her lol. The one dance number of hers that's on a sound stage is a feast for the eyes. I could see hints of what Gene would later choreograph in Singin' in the Rain in Make Way for Tomorrow. But speaking of Gene and choreography - the dance off with himself in Alter Ego??? HOOOOWWW the fuck did they accomplish that?? In 1944?!?! I've read about the process and I still can't wrap my head around it?? Bravo, dude. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

8. There's No Business Like Show Business (1955)

I'm including this in my list even though I technically didn't finish it yet (I got 3/4 the way through). I watched with my mom, and we both were let down by this. Maybe the part we didn't see would have changed our opinion of it lol. But anyways, the production value was fantastic. I love a majority of the cast. The older brother played by Johnnie Ray was a complete miscast, though. The way he sings was a popular style for a brief moment in time and it's definitely outdated today. (He's also not a good actor lol.) And this is probably sacrilegious to say for a review about a musical, but I felt a lot of the songs went on too long? If they had cut a few verses off of them, that would have helped a lot with the pacing. And them repeating Alexander's Ragtime Band four times so each family member can showcase their talents was overkill (I love the concept of showing off their strengths, but it could have been in one number.) Donald O'Connor is the best. The only number I really enjoyed was his solo one.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! This movie was much better. Ethel Merman's character is so funny, and her costumes?? J'adore! And omggg Donald O'Connor and Vera-Ellen were sooooo gooooood. I can see why 20th Century Fox tried to pair them up again in White Christmas. I was in awe of their dance numbers in this. And Vera-Ellen's white ball gown with a hint of pink in the skirt?? J'ADORE!

A feast for the eyes. I really love how this was directed. The costumes, hair, and makeup were top notch. Judy Garland is stunningly beautiful. And so is Angela Lansbury! I also enjoyed seeing bb Cyd Charisse and Ray Bolger (Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz). I'm glad Ray and Judy had a dance scene together. The plot kind of petered out at the end. And...I'm sorry....but Judy's love interest creeped me out. 🙈 I know I would like their dynamic a lot if someone else played him. (And according to imdb, Gene Kelly was initially considered..... *internal screaming*)

Maybe I wasn't in the right mindset to watch this, but I was disappointed? Gene's dance solos and Frank Sinatra's singing solos were spectacular, though! The plot meandered a bit...and I think I ultimately didn't like Gene's character that much. 😬 And Kathryn Grayson's soprano singing is not my cup of tea.

Cheating a bit because I have already seen this one, but it was a loooooong time ago, so it felt like the first time watching. And it was amazing! Stupendous! Hysterical - I was howling with laughter at some parts! And it's hilarious at the amount of dirty humor they got away with - Comden and Green supremacy! And for a movie where all the characters are super horny, it was so sweet and wholesome! I think I can add a few more exclamation points!!! Lol in all seriousness, this is definitely in my top 5 Gene Kelly musicals ever.

14. Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949)

I decided to go ahead and watch this once I found out that Betty Garrett and Jules Munshin, who were in On the Town, were ALSO in this film. And I'm glad I did! It was very entertaining. I have become a Betty Garrett stan. She and Frank Sinatra steal the show for me. I know I probably shouldn't love their relationship as much as I do (Betty's character is pretty much a stalker and definitely harasses Frank's character), but I somehow don't mind it? Lol I'm just chalking it up to their natural charm and chemistry. And how can I not love them when Betty literally carries Frank around like it's no big deal? The one thing I didn't like in the movie was the Yes, Indeedy number. Yes, I understand Gene and Frank's characters are lying through their teeth about their exploits while on their vaudeville tour (and I think the song is also making fun of men in that time period), but some of the lyrics went too far.

Heartbreaking fun fact: Gene supposedly came up with the story idea, and his love interest K.C. Higgins was thought of with Judy Garland in mind. *wails in the unfairness of it all*

I always thought this would be purely about the fairy tale for some reason? But it's about the ballet company putting on a show based off the fairy tale. Moira Shearer is a phenomenal ballerina. And I really enjoyed the movie. Sometimes, I felt as thought it went a little overboard with the symbolism, but that's my only critique. And I also had the passing thought, "Oh, this is where Joe Wright got his train imagery in Anna Karenina," not even halfway expecting to be right...and apparently my offhand observation was accurate! Lolololol.

16. What A Way To Go! (1964)

H i l a r i o u s - another banger from Comden and Green! So glad I caught this on tv. Shirley MacLaine is a wealthy widow who wants to give her fortune away to the IRS because she believes the money is cursed. They think she's crazy and refer her to a psychologist. She proceeds to tell him of how her four husbands (Dick van Dyke, Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, and Gene Kelly) all became greedy once they achieved their fortunes and how that led to their demises. It's very stylistic and clever. I love how each honeymoon period with the husband was portrayed by a different film genre: Dick van Dyke - silent film, Paul Newman - b&w French film, Robert Mitchum - made fun of the current (50s/60s) expensive/stylistic films, Gene Kelly - musicals ofc. Paul Newman looked so hot with a beard omg. And I was wondering how racy the French film portion would get....and I was surprised at how far it did go lol. The real highlight for me were the Edith Head costumes. Oh. My. God. They spared no expense. I don't even think I can choose a favorite. They were all outlandishly fantastic.

This is really tricky for Cerberus, actually, and the only thing I'm confident of is that he'd be his own boss. Possibly the world's hottest occult bookstore owner/operator lol. But I can also see him not working a "regular" sort of job at all, and being the kind of super-successful investor that can live off passive income and do whatever he wants in his (significant) spare time, and that may not be a whole lot different - although with a "mortal plane" skew, of course - to what he does now.

lol maybe he'd be a cult leader. 🤣 He was mortally pyrokinetic, after all. Kia had all sorts of odd jobs when she was mortal. She's been a masseuse, a supermarket checkout chick, a fashion consultant/assistant, a pole dancer, a telemarketer, a typist... She'd probably settle into something customer-service focused that didn't require a degree/formal qualifications.

9) How does your OC handle their physical health? Do they take care of themselves?

Cerberus is excellent at this...until he gets sick. 😂😂 He's very physically fit, in great shape, looks after his physical needs overall extremely well. Eats well, exercises, is very hygiene-conscious. He's kind of a workaholic and should almost certainly take more time off for just relaxation, but that's about as lax as he gets about his general physical wellbeing. And he doesn't often get sick at all. BUT. Partly due to infrequency/unfamiliarity with getting ill, partly just that he's always so resentful that it even happened, how fucking dare this happen, that he's just...patently terrible at accepting his fate about it. 😅 So when the Healing meds don't instantly and completely cure things, he's prone to completely disregarding everything he's told to do, because it's already proved pointless again, as usual, so why not try [insert probably bad idea here] instead. Kia's made things way better for him in this regard, and he's the best of all possible selves with her around, but still. He's a notoriously dreadful patient and he deserves every bit of that reputation lol.

Kia is also very fit, although less hygiene-conscious, and also far more likely to socialise in large groups, etc. She gets sick a regular amount, and is much better at looking after herself when it happens, too. She gets a bit cranky about it at times, sure, but she's pretty accepting of it as just a part of life, and just...deals. Not to say she doesn't enjoy a good spoiling when she's unwell. Cerberus, for all his failings at being a good patient, actually makes a wonderful caretaker.

11) What was your inspiration for your OC?

Cerberus was supposed to be a one-off serve-a-purpose temporary creation and problem-solver. I made too many OCs in early Underworld times and thought if I just had...like half of them killed off in one fell swoop, sort of thing, I could get back on track, haha. Anyway, so, he was meant to just come in, do damage, fuck off.

He...did not do that. 🤷‍♀️ I mean, he absolutely did do what I, um, brought him in for. He just also decided to stick around and take over the place afterwards.

IDEK. I'm just a dumb scribe lol. And I genuinely do not remember what/who inspired Kia, but she was also an unexpected "success story". She was an Incept, brought into the Underworld's Vampirism Caste by another OC pretty much nobody's met here - Vesuvius - and just...went about being Kia. And here we are. 🫠

Hey there! I'm actually a big fan of your work , and as a rookie writer myself, I wanted to know if you have some motivation advises (Comparison gives me so much writer blocks and I don't even post)

I love how I received and chose to answer this ask after having a lack of motivation streak that I only broke quite literally a few hours ago xD

I think it's interesting you're bringing up comparison - it honestly might be at the root of what you're specifically experiencing so I'm gonna focus my response on that. I could be off, but it sounds like seeing what other people are doing feels intimidating and puts a lot of pressure on you. So if it isn't "perfect" or "up to par" with what others seem to be doing, it's not good enough to post.

This is my personal take:

I saw a post (wish I could link it but can't remember where it was) that really resonated with me not too long ago. It talked about how we've been conditioned as a society in a way to see a lot of the arts as something to perfect; if you want to sing, you should focus on learning how to become a good singer. If you are a dancer, you should focus on learning forms to become a better dancer.

The post goes on to make the point that this is not why the arts were founded in the first place.

We as humans began to sing because we enjoyed singing. We danced because we liked to dance. We paint, write, and draw because - at each art's purest and most rudimentary form - it is the power and experience of personal expression. The benefit wasn't to be perfect, it was to enjoy the creative outlet in itself.

This is what has always connected me to writing. This is why I'm okay with posting the way I do, and why I don't mind light humor about my typos and all that. Because at the end of the day, you're writing because you enjoy it. You're writing to express and share with others. And you're doing it all for free. Your willingness to give the gift of your creativity out to the world is beautiful in itself.

This next part might sound a lot easier said than done, but again, this is all just my personal route that goes in conjunction with this philosophy:

See other writers/creators as your peers. Think of it like a potluck - everyone's bringing their own food, and everyone has different ideas. But it's cool because now you have mashed potatoes along with your favorite food, and someone else brought ice cream. No one dish is going to "win" - it's the culmination of everyone's efforts that fills plates up and make the event (fandom) enjoyable and connective.

Recognize the way in which your fic is uniquely yours. What's the touch you want to have? Things you enjoy that you want to feel yourself as you create, and perhaps share with others? Romance, humor, fun, peace, angst? Maybe certain situations for characters, or a moment you want to see with your favorite ship? The more you get in touch with what you want to portray, the more credit you'll be able to rightfully give your own work.

Engage with creators/commenters that are additive to your personal enjoyment and creativity. Going with the whole "this is all for fun, and is basically everyone's hobby over life and death" thing - the people you surround yourself with, or even the content you consume, can directly affect your experience in writing for a fandom. I personally get a lot out of talking about my ideas with others and through inviting and responding to feedback from people that engage with my work. If you like engaging with someone else's work, go ahead! See what stands out to you as inspiring, and let that be your takeaway to mull on (as you're essentially learning more about yourself and what you find entertaining or engaging).

I'm gonna get off my soapbox now (lol), but I also wanted to add one more thing:

There unfortunately is a competitive culture in a lot of recreational spaces, and especially with the arts and over the internet lol. There are people who like to overly criticize because it makes them feel better about themselves/their own work, there are people who may choose to dislike you or your work simply because they view you as competition, etc.

These kinds of choices some (not the majority of people!) may choose to make hold no actual reflection of your character or what you're writing. It is someone else's reflection being projected onto you. You may not be able to control what they do, but you can control how you respond. And my advice on that?

It's your free time. Don't give the haters a platform, just disengage & tune into the folks that uplift & encourage you instead. B)

Totally agree with you about Cater in Book 5. I always found Ace and Deuce's inclusion on the team extremely forced and contrived. Realistically speaking, neither of them should’ve ever made the cut. Neither one of them have any singing or dancing training. While they did practice a little, there’s no way in hell someone would ever become a professional level dancer in the matter of a couple of days, even with the best teacher in the world. 

I’m 99% certain that Yana only did that for plot convenience, because that way she wouldn’t have to craft two new characters to fill in the roles on the team. While I can understand that logic from a real world game development standpoint, like you said, I still don’t understand why someone like Cater could’ve taken Ace’s spot at the very least. Cater is in the Light Music Club, so he has a background in that area. His VA is a professional singer. Cater making the team wouldn’t be as big of a stretch as Ace. It’s not like Ace did much in this arc other than cause trouble and insult Deuce, anyways, so anyone could’ve taken his spot. 

The other question about ch 3 is going to take a bit more thinking, cuz I've tried to make it work before in various stories, but this seems like a complete rework kind of answer is needed.

And yeah, I made a post a while ago about how Cater had to feel about the VDC, and it's something I tackle in some of my fics. Because I don't know how he can look at what happened and who got picked and not come to the conclusion Vil just hates him? Like this man is so driven to win that he's willing to do anything...except let Cater on the team.

And given I ship the two of them primarily their dynamic is something I've put a lot of effort into figuring out. The only thing I've found to justify it is that Vil doesn't like the idea of dating someone just for PR/fame. Because the way he talks to/reacts to Cater is just... not in line with how he treats everyone else. He constantly calls him shallow or implies he's only after fame which is just a wild take.

That he would let someone like Rook be his friend who 100% comes off more like a stalker fan type than Cater. And Rook doesn't even hide it. Like I get they bonded over Theater but it's not like Vil and Cater have no common ground at all. Cater's shown to be into fashion and design, given they go out of their way to mention Cater came up with Heartslabyul's Halloween costumes and designed their LMC clubwear (When for the most part that's all just assumed to be Crewel)

And then there is his friendship with Kalim like I've pointed out. And Lilia which Vil admits is someone he's interested in getting to know better himself. Hell Cater and Rook are friends? Like none of it makes sense.

Especially when Vil also has no problems with associating with other people who are clearly out to use him?!?! Like Azul, Jade, Ace...even Leona? But nah we're gonna hate on Cater. When he's always you know ASKED to take Vil's picture, even in situations where he wouldn't have to ie in public spaces and what not. He's never just taken it without permission.

In the end, despite the fact that Vil calls Cater shallow he's the one that comes across as incredibly shallow about the whole thing. Especially when we have Cater talking about what he sees in Vil and what he appreciates about him and why he looks up to him...and none of it is really shallow? He definitely sees more in him than just a quick ticket to fame.

It just seems so weird when Vil otherwise seems to put effort into helping others better themselves. He can be incredibly generous and thoughtful in certain situations. AND HE KNOWS THAT CATER IS LIKELY DEPRESSED. And that's what he's hiding behind his cheerful facade thanks to Cater's Labcoat personal story.

Okay so, I’m an idiot who’s obsessed with Zenith.

What’s he like in your AU?

Hi :)

Oh Zenith, there's a lot going on with him, and hopefully I remember everything cause I haven't touched his stuff in a while.

So basically - Zenith was born and raised in the Infernal Cult. The infernal cult has been around for. A loooooong while, not exactly around the time that the region was created, but definitely somewhere along the line there. Zenith's story actually takes place in the 19....20's? Yeah the 1920's. Details aren't fully realized, but at that specific time, he was the head of the infernal cult, right after his mother. And at that specific time, he had a rival- the chosen of meloetta, Riya. There was a confrontation between the two, and Riya took Zenith's life ....in exchange for her own. With Zenith dead, the infernal cult pretty much crumbled without it's leader, despite the efforts of it's even most devoted followers. The story would have ended here, a tale of a hero dying to rid the world of another evil.

Would have ended.

See, Zenith did die. And he honestly thought he was a goner until he got a visit from none other than Nyx. And Nyx had a deal for him. She would bring him back to life, even give him a bit of power akin to his old rival, in exchange for his service to her. He would collect the crystal shards for her,and then give them to her when the time comes. Zenith agreed without even thinking. So then and there, Zenith was able to crawl back up from the dead, and revive his cult from what little it has become. Oh and he's also basically immortal. This deal was really enticing you can see why Zenith didn't even think before agreeing. That's the backstory.

In modern times, Zenith is still a librarian.....in his spare time anyway. But his main cover up is actually being the Torren regions most beloved idol. Turns out Zenith had a knack for singing and showman ship- something that actually caused his rivalry with Riya I bet- she was a singer dancer in the 20s. As for the power that Nyx given him, like I said it was essentially a bit of Riya's. He had the power of voice. While he couldn't fully mind control people, he could still slightly influence them/suggest to them via his voice. Hence why he honestly has such a big fanbase. The details are iffy for this part, but his biggest goal is to use the crystal(?) to amplify his voice powers to the masses. Taking it from subtle suggestion/ influence to full blown mind control. Zenith in my au is also pretty loyal to Nyx, seeing her just as much as a god as Groudon. That being said.....if he were to be able to get the upper hand on her and take her out, he probably would. God, can I talk about him and Jaern for a second? They both are so similar but are so different in one big way. Both have this public persona of someone that is beloved and kind and charismatic and has the public's best interest at heart. But even with that persona.....Zenith knows who he is. He knows he wants power, he knows he enjoys the feeling of having people under his thumb. He knows that. But Jaern is convincing himself that what he is doing is in the name of justice, in the name of making the world a better place, when the reality is, he just wants to feel powerful. I haven't fully figured out how they would interact in the plot, if at all, but if they did, it would be so interesting bc I know Zenith sees the right through Jaern's bullshit. It's why he both kinda Jaern amusing and an insult. Because he's not owning it. Being a cult leader, to Zenith, is owning what you want while fooling the masses. If Jaern doesn't believe that what he wants, simply put, is power,then what is he doing. Who is he trying to fool, himself? Please. So as his idol persona, Zenith loves just picking at the guy whenever they have the chance to meet. I don't know if Jaern knows that Zenith the idol is Zenith the cult leader, I haven't fully fleshed that out, but man, I just love to imagine the power dynamic they have. Zenith has been a cult leader for a long time, so while technically, Jaern has the power of law by his side, he is honestly pretty helpless to the raw power that is the Infernal Cult,and they both know that. Still Riwoo. He's not only a great dancer, but he has proven to be a great singer as well. He has such a distinct voice and tone. His cover of Taeyang's 'Darling' was also, like... a cultural shift. Something seriously went wrong in my brain when he performed that.

Beyond the performance, I've always appreciated how he makes the distinction between 'Sanghyeok' and 'Riwoo' and that he seems very aware of his role and function as an idol. And he also just seems like a really kind person. So yeah.

All of OT6. There are certain performances where one member shines more than the other, which obviously then grabs the eye. I think I'm most often taken aback by Woonhak, but that's because he seems like the coolest teenager to ever exist.

"But Sometimes", I really liked the combination of on-location filming and exaggerated sets, and how the MV broke reality in various ways. The kitschy grunge look was also spot on for what they were going for. Jaehyun's rap part felt the most inventive to me in terms of the videography complimenting the storytelling.

As of right now, "WHY", because we got some iconic stages at award shows with "But Sometimes" as the main feature. I think we all remember them going, "BOY to the NEXT to the DOOR! Remember!" and just. how iconic that was. Leehan b-boying. Dozens of dancers going crazy with them. Taesan sitting on a throne. Riwoo's hats getting crazier and crazier. So many cool moments during awards season.

"Serenade" for sure. K-pop underestimates the power of a good tableau and "Serenade" gives us plenty of those. The choreo just really works well with the story they're telling.

I'm undecided still. We haven't heard the full range and scope of their voices, so I really don't know yet. Right now, I think Sungho is pretty much the best singer, though I'm still waiting for a song using Leehan's lower register.

In terms of tone and voice, I prefer Taesan, but Jaehyun has the better verses and flow in my opinion.

Their styling is always hit or miss, but I'm just a fashion snob. And I'm of the opinion that a slow, gradual growth will always be better than skyrocketing fame. I see a lot of people on Twitter begging for that shot of ultra fame for them, but I don't think that benefits any group in the long run. So, let bonedo grow slowly.

Finally got a chance to write a few thoughts about Lana last night. She looked like a completely different person than she did just a few months ago. She dyed her hair lighter, had a stunning outfit and was clearly glowing with happiness and serving face with that makeup. It reminded me of vintage Lana. Arriving on a motorcycle was very fitting.

Lana headlining Coachella seems like she got a sort of glow and confidence back. Or at least she’s taking in this celebratory moment for her as an artist who has shaped pop culture for the better part of almost 13 years.

She has said in the past that shes not an entertainer, shes a singer. So doing Coachella may not translate. Those who get it, get it. To some, her set may have not hit, but until you experience Lana live and feel the energy, you probably never will.

This was one of the most put together shows I’ve seen from her lately that truly showed her range, her vast discography and ethereal beautiful melancholic soundscapes she dreams up. The vocals were amazing and you could hear them (mostly - there were a few times she had to ask Byron to adjust the volume). The stage set was complete and both Lana and the dancers seemed prepared to move around it and it showed. Even with the quiet transitions the prospect of what would happen next still hid in the shadows of suspense.

I do believe she wants to do her best at every show and she loves to see the fans. But don’t expect a high energy set. Fans know what they’re getting and they continue to sing every word faithfully. I will say there was room to add a few more songs with a beat lol, she’s definitely got them!

And don’t get me started on her bringing out Billie to perform Ocean Eyes and Video Games… just INSANELY AMAZING. The chemistry. I love how much they love each other. There’s a lot of Lana’s influence in Billie, and they really seem like kindred spirits.

And Jack coming out to perform Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Woman Like Me To Have - But I have It with a stunning hologram of Lana and then he just leaves. Very on brand.

You have to watch with headphones and the volume turned up to experience her live band and vocals and really immerse yourself.

Also, the odes to her past in the video that played before ride and people screaming at certain parts— it truly captured the cultural impact Lana has made in the last decade.

Ever since Born To Die came out in 2012 she has shaped popular culture with her unique musical style and tone. Her voice and the nostalgic production combined transported us to another dimension and we’ve all been different since and you felt that last night. The impact she’s had.

While being one of the most influential artists and lyrical poets of our generation, Lana has often been overlooked for her contributions to music, songwriting and setting trends. She has been nominated for 11 Grammys, included several AOTY, she has not won one. I find that crazy.

Anyways, the last song was Young and Beautiful and after she exited on a motorcycle to a Gatsby-esque Jazz outro and fireworks… you know the vintage lover in me got chills to the sound of a transition into an instrumental version of Heartaches by Al Bowlly, and it slowly drowned out (you just have to hear it… saw someone say it was backrooms music — which not not true) and I love it.

So proud of you Lana! I’d definitely say to tune in again next weekend for more surprises 🤍

sorry to be late to the dance ranking convo and for the monster length of this ask but i felt the need to address some injustices loool. Bc as much as I adore jk as an artist, performer and a singer who SINGS(!!), i would say he is fifth overall in SHINee for dance**

**big caveat is this is based on the dances that are performed by shinee the group, not necessarily every kind of dance! shinees level of performance is v high and I’d say most idols from gen 3 and prev are on a similar level of dance skill to jk.

I’d say you can tell (watching closely) that executing choreography does not come naturally to jk, which actually has me appreciate much more the extra effort and work he always puts in to keep up in group performances ❤️❤️ You can tell he is trying to remember steps as he is going which can take away from his ability to connect with the performance and it can end up feeling awkward/tense. Compare his performances in routines they have performed/practiced a LOT vs a newer routine or deep cut and you can see practice makes a big difference for him. The style and complexity of the routine also makes a difference. Given enough time to practice (and like, no other demands lol), I’m sure he could improve/perfect many of those routines but that’s not how life goes, esp idol life and I actually prefer seeing him prioritise his 1) wellbeing 2) vocal health over nailing any specific choreography.

Of course his frame of reference has expanded over several years of being an idol and so, although his stamina has been up and down, I think he’s a bit quicker now to pick up the basics of a routine. As you mentioned yourself, a skill he has built up over the years is to “hide” mistakes, which I think came about as a way to manage being somewhat behind in mastering a routine. Other than being able to recover quickly from a full-on slip in concentration or fall, what he tends to do more generally to avoid looking out of place is sort of “blur” through steps he hasn’t quite refined. The end result looks perfectly fine in a group performance but under scrutiny can look a bit messy and uncoordinated, esp when compared to 2minkey who are all exceptionally clean and precise dancers. It also doesn’t leave him room to add in those extra flourishes that can really draw the eye and why he’s rarely in the centre during a complex combo. Nobody has infinite concentration or energy and his coordination, momentum and rhythm suffers more in moments when he’s focusing on serving vocals or face as and when the performance requires, and he can end up lacking follow through in his movements.

The reasons he ranks just below jjong who, like jk, was slower to pick up choreography than the others are that jjong overall demonstrated better body control and coordination and was better able to compensate for deficits in refinement with his stamina and concentration. Jjong also had better rhythm and connection so his dancing looks smooth and his movements tend to follow through.

HOWEVER this is not to dismiss the fact that jk does have some real strengths. Like you mentioned yourself, he has shown some skilled footwork (the tap performance???). Personally I speculate this has a lot to do with his fixation on (passion for?) practicing dexterity “tricks” like plate spinning being put towards learning specific dance moves like moonwalking bc…he is a lewser lmfaooo. The specific kind of dance performed by idols/shinee is not necessarily his strong suit but I think jk’s open mindset and willingness to look a little silly lends itself very well to dances that I think many dance line idols would struggle to pull off (muscle memory is really difficult to overcome).

This is why I too really like watching him in good evening, I think his inexperience in dance (and his acting skills) was actually a strength for him in that routine which was intended to look as unrehearsed as possible. His performances in good evening and circle show that, when he has the room to do so, he’s able to modulate his energy level very well. In good evening he does a really good job of gently building up to a big release at the climax of the song and it’s so satisfying to watch every time!! He loves to learn and I think he’s improving all the time with exposure to more dance. To be honest though dance is not really the reason I tune in for jk like I am really here for his voice at the end of the day 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ That’s my ted talk thank u

Hi! I appreciate your apology on the whole CATS thing! It shows a lot of maturity. And to be fair, the CATS 2019 movie is not well liked by even the CATS fans. XD. It has it's fans to be fair, but it's definitely not representative of the show.

Something with CATS is- it has a plot, but it is pretty thin. Really the Vibes are what is important. The plot is more an excuse to get a bunch of talented dancers/singers together to put on a spectacle. But it’s also a great sandbox to pull from. Because relationships are basically undefined- a lot of the fun is creating your own story and dynamics! Sometimes it’s as small as a look, other times it's “Character A sings a long ode about how wonderful B is”.

So I’d say don’t go in expecting a story- it tends to develop with your own headcanons and stuff! Obviously no pressure, but I appreciate your willingness to learn!

Ill definitely give it a watch! And yeah, I realized how childish and immature I was acting about the whole thing, and its safe to say I am not proud of that lol
