“Mom I’m home,” you spoke, as you locked the door behind you. Sliding your feet out of your shoes and hanging your jacket up, you found her.
Face lay on the table, pen in hand and eyes closed. Letters, notices, bills. Just a whole bunch of paperwork lay on the table, it’d been like this for a while. Since your dad got sick. Then he was gone.
“Mom,” you whispered, shaking her lightly. She groaned, body wriggling as she woke up, “Mom go to bed.”
“I’m awake.”
“I know, but go and rest now. I’ll put this away.”
“Are you sure?” she asked, rubbing her eyes. “Yeah.”
“How was work?”
“It was fine, the kids were golden.”
“Good I’m glad. You’ve got dinner in the microwave.”
“Thank you. Now go get some rest,” you said, kissing her cheek. “You’re such a good girl. Goodnight honey.”
“Night mom.”
And that’s how life had been for the last 18 months of your life. Just you and your mom. You sighed, walking over to the table. Stacking up the papers and putting them away.
There wasn’t much mess, your mom had been working all day and you’d been out most of the night. She was a nurse, and you had about any job you could get.
After quickly eating your dinner you picked up a few pieces of washing, swilled your plate and went up to bed. You babysat for a couple people in the neighbourhood, and sure they were fine, but one of the little ones came down with something and was near inconsolable.
Your bed was like heaven, after taking off your jeans you didn’t even bother to swap into pyjamas, falling to sleep as soon as your head hit the pillow.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Morning mom,” you said, kissing her head as you walked passed. There was a plate of scrambled eggs and toast, along with a cup of coffee waiting for her. “Morning, where are you off too?”
“Oh I’m just about to go clean Mrs Harris’, her daughters out of town and she said she’d pay me good. Plus she’s a sweet woman so.” You mom sighed, taking a drink of her coffee.
“What did we say about taking more jobs?”
“Mom come on, it’s not a big deal. It’s just one time.”
“You said that about the babysitting and the store and the tutoring.”
“Mom-“
“You need to take care of yourself.”
“So do you. Do you have a shift today?”
“No.”
“Great, I’ll pick up some movies from Robbies work and then we can have a day together.”
“Honey,” she sighed.
“I gotta go mom, love you.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“You are an Angel,” Mrs Harris smiled as you placed a mug in front of her, taking one of your own in your hands. “Thank you for doing this for me, Anna had this holiday booked for months.”
You hummed taking a sip of the drink, “I bet the kids were excited.”
“You have no idea! Bouncing off the walls telling me all about it yesterday.”
“Well the beach is exciting.”
“It is, now how about you? How’s your mom?”
“We’re good, you know,” you shrugged.
“Hm, I do know. You remind me of myself and Anna when we lost Paul,” she smiled fondly at the thought of her husband.
“We’re just trying to learn how to do this all without him.”
“Of course. I found something for you actually,” she smiled, walking to her fridge. Pulling a piece of paper from under a magnet she passed it over.
“I saw it in the grocery store, thought it’d be better than you doing 20 different jobs a week. You could just stick to 2,” she joked. It was a slip for wanted workers at a diner. Waitressing staff.
“Thank you.”
“Of course Honey, now you get going. Enjoy your day with your mom,” she smiled, nodding you took the flyer with you. “Let me know if you need me to come and clean again.”
The woman chuckled, shaking her head waving goodbye as you headed to your car. You knew the diner, you drove past it going to and from jobs, you’d just never stopped by.
You’d have to pass it on the way to Family Video anyway, so there was no harm in asking.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
It wasn’t too busy in the diner, there were people dotted around, some groups, some alone. Some eating, some not. It seemed like a great place to people watch, to see so many people from different places, with different lives.
Walking up to the counter you smiled at an older woman, crows feet by her eyes, flecks of grey through her dark hair, but her eyes shone, young and playful. “Hiya Honey what can I get for you?”
“Hi, I actually came to ask about the waitressing position, is it still available?”
“It certainly is, have you got any experience?”
“I’ve had a couple different jobs, I worked at a cafe during summer break. I’ve worked cleaning jobs, with kids, in retail.” The woman hummed, nodding, “Well the shifts would change, you’d have to do 4 or 5 a week.”
“I can do that.”
“You’d serve customers, do waitressing, help in the kitchen if needed, cleaning.”
“Of course.”
“Okay, if you leave your name and number we can call and talk about you having a test day and we’ll see how we go.”
“Thank sounds great.” She slid a writing pad and a pen across the counter to you, disappearing to refill someone’s coffee.
“Liz, order up,” you heard a male voice speak from the back.
Two plates of delicious looking food was placed on the window out to the front, but the chef themself wasn’t visible. The woman moved quickly, weaving around stools and booths, taking the plates to a couple at the far end of the diner.
You’d imagine that they’d all know each other forever, the way they spoke like old friends. The woman, Liz, made her way back over to you, taking the pen and pad back.
“We’ll give you a call,” she smiled.
“Thank you.” She nodded giving you a wink and you were on your way.
You could only hope you’d get this job, 4 or 5 shifts a week would be great, then you could have room for a couple of odd babysitting jobs and still keep the house clean for your mom. All you had to do was actually get it.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
You dried your hands with a towel, leaving the dirty dishes to air dry before you put them away. Dinner was cooking on the stove, and your mom would soon be home.
The music of your radio hummed with static, the station hiding the silence of the house. That was until the loud sound of the phone ringing overpowered it.
“Hello?” you answered.
“Hi, is this Y/N Y/L/N?”
“Speaking.”
“Hi there honey, this is Liz from the Old Bear Diner. I’m just calling about the waitressing job.”
“Right I see.”
“Well the position is yours if you want it, we’ll get you trained up.”
“What about the test day?”
“Well Mr Miller, the owner of the cafe you worked at, came here and when I mentioned you he couldn’t stop telling me how great of a worker you are.”
“That’s very kind. When would I start?”
“Wednesday if that’s possible, you’d start at 9am and finish at 5pm.” Quickly looking at the calendar you didn’t have any babysitting gigs, so it’d be perfect.
“Of course.”
“Great, I’ll be seeing you Wednesday Honey.”
“See you then.”
You couldn’t help grinning as you hung the phone back on the hook, taking dinner off the stove. Your mom found you dancing to the music on the radio, plating up your food.
“Good day?” she smiled, as you began to eat. “Mhm, definitely. How was work?”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Liz had shown you all the basics, how to use the till, where everything was stored, along with giving you a dark apron that sat around you waist.
“So when we have food orders, you hang them up here. Eddie will call when they’re ready, write the table numbers on the ticket if that’s easier for you,” she smiled.
“Right, is Eddie the chef?”
“Mhm, the one and only. You can also have anything off the menu for lunch, so just let him know and he’ll make it. I’ll introduce you now.”
Following her into the kitchen it was a lot of stainless steel counters, ovens, grills and deep sinks. “Eddie, got someone for you to meet,” Liz spoke, catching the taller man attention.
Turning to face you, you took him in. Dark curls, pulled back to sit in a bun at base of his neck, he was tall, lean but muscular, with tattoos dotted around his arms. His own apron sat around his waist, freckles and beauty marks decorated his face like his own personal constellation.
And his eyes, they were beautiful, like melted chocolate, you could very easily get lost in them. “Eddie this is Y/N our new waitress.”
“Nice to meet you,” you said softly, trying not to stair at the gorgeous man in front of you.
“You too. You shown her the basics?” he asked Liz. “Course I have, so be nice,” she warned, wagging her finger at him. “Always am.”
The older woman snorted, “You take that back, your uncle didn’t raise a liar.” This made Eddie smirk, smile lines and faint dimples appearing.
“Well we’ve got customers to serve, come on Honey.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Working at the diner was strangely something you looked forward to, something you enjoyed. Your mom wasn’t over the moon about it, worrying that you’d work yourself to sickness.
You were okay, you’d do your shifts go home, help around the house, spend time with your mom and still had time to do your babysitting gig. It worked out quite well.
“Morning Honey,” Liz smiled as you pushed through the door, “Morning.” You headed to the back, hanging up your jacket and your bag, tying your apron around your waist.
You walked past the kitchen, “Morning Eddie,” you called as you went, receiving a grunt of acknowledgment in return. He seemed nice enough, grumpy, but nice and beautiful - but you wouldn’t tell him that.
The diner was a 24 hour one so customers were already dotted around, it was a weekday so it was a lot of people travelling through, especially truckers.
“These are for table 4,” Liz smiled, handing you 2 warm drinks, nodding you went on your way. “Morning, I’ve got two hot chocolate.”
“Thank you,” an older man said, the younger one with him smiling slightly.
“Can I get you anything else?” you asked.
“Could we order some hot food?”
“Sure, let me just get a pad. I’ll be right back.”
Walking around the diner had become like a dance now, bouncing around the tables and chairs, back and fourth to the counter. “Eddie order for table 4,” you said, sticking the paper under a magnet.
Another grunt in acknowledgment, as the ticket was pulled down and into the kitchen.
“Morning Y/N,” a familiar voice spoke.
“Mr Connors, good morning. What can I get for you?”
“A tea for Cynthia,” he said, smiling over at his wife, “And a coffee for me.”
“I’ll bring them over.” The older man nodded, making his way to sit across the booth from his wife.
“25 years they’ve been coming here, and every time it’s like their first date all over again,” Liz said, sighing dreamily.
“Are you married?”
“Mhm, coming up to 15 years. Got a couple kids too, they mean the world to me. How about you Honey you got someone?”
You shook your head, “Now that does surprise me.”
“Why’s that?”
“I mean, look at you. You’re pretty girl.”
“Thank you,” you said shyly, “Honestly I’m just too busy.”
She nodded, filling up a mug with warm coffee and another with tea you heard an order called. “Order up.”
“I’ll take the drinks, you take the orders,”Liz said, sliding the mugs from the counters.
“Is this all of it?” you called over to Eddie, he turned half way so you could see the side of his face. He nodded and you moved quickly, feeling your face flush. Hoping that chatting with customers would take your mind off the beautiful man through the other room.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
I’ll see you later Liz,” you waved to the older woman, “Oh hang on Honey, I’ve got something to ask you.” You stopped in your tracks, car keys in hand.
“Do you think you could do the night shift on Friday?”
“I’ll have to check my calendar when I get home, I’ll call and let you know.”
“Okay, thanks Hun, you have a good night.”
You hadn’t done a night shift yet, Liz did a couple a week and Eddie seemed to live there, often taking doubles. Speaking of Eddie you raised your hand to wave goodbye, as he took a drag from his cigarette.
Nodding your way he let out a breath of smoke, sitting himself down on an old crate at the door. You climbed into your car and we’re on your way.
“Mom,” you called out when you entered the house. It was strangely quiet, her car was on the drive so she must be here. Hanging up your bag and jacket, you slid your shoes off.
Your feet padded across the floor, finding your mom on the couch. Her eyes closed, her chest moving up and down gently. “Mom?” you said softly, placing a hand on her shoulder.
She was burning up, “Mom, come on let’s get you to bed.” She groaned as you helped her up, eyes barely opening as you took her to her room. “I’ll be back I’m just getting you some water.”
Taking a glass from the side of her bed you went to the bathroom, filling it with water and grabbing her some medication from the cupboard. “Here you go mom,” you said, helping her sit up.
Closing the curtains, the room was almost in darkness. “Was work okay?” she croaked out. “Yeah it was fine, they’ve asked me to do a night shift on Friday, gotta check the calendar.”
“You go do that honey, I’ll be okay.”
“Okay. You rest up, I’ll come and check on you later.” The woman hummed softly, snuggling down under her blanket and resting her head on the pillow.
Luckily Friday was free and you could take the shift, and your mom was off so she could rest and and get rid of whatever sickness this was. Dialling the number for the diner you waited for a few rings, a voice finally appearing.
“Old Bear Diner, how can I help?”
“Hi Eddie, it’s Y/N.”
“Oh hello, you alright?”
“Yeah was just calling to tell Liz I can do the Friday night shift.”
“Right, I’ll let her know.”
“Thank you.”
“Hm. See you Friday.”
“See you.” After hanging up you pressed your hand to your chest, how could a 20 second conversation do this to you.
You couldn’t even see him, it was just his voice. Dear god his voice. Get it together. He’s just a hot guy at work, would you find him hot outside of work? Probably not.
Okay that’s a total lie - grumpy metal head. Yes please.
You groaned placing your forehead on the cold wall, suddenly feeling the need for a hot shower.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?”
“Honey go to work, it’s just a cold.”
“Fine, but you’ll call if you need me?”
“Of course I will now shift it, you’re going to be late,” your mom said, pulling you to the door.
“Drive safe, I love you.”
“Love you mom.”
Arriving at the diner it was already busy, but that made sense for a Friday night. You parked your car up and went in through the back, not wanting to squeeze your way past the customers.
Eddie was there, standing on a cigarette he was clearly finished with. “Hey,” you said.
“Hello.” He held the door open for you, letting you duck under his arm. You held your breath as you did so. How did he smell so nice?
“Is Liz here?” you asked.
“It’s her anniversary, so night off. So it’s us, May and Chris.” You hummed, May was older than you and Eddie, but Chris was around the same age.
“Okay well I’m gonna go and get sorted.” He hummed, heading back to the kitchen, but watching you go first. Soon enough you were out on the counter saying a quick hello to May and Chris.
“Evening,” the man smiled, dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. “How’s it going?”
“You know,” you shrugged. He looked like he was going to continue, but a group of teens sat down at a booth.
“I’ll go and sort them,” you smiled, grabbing a pad and pen from the counter. “Hiya guys what can I get for you?” And so the shift began.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
It was busy, manic even. When one table was dealt with another three seemed to need your attention. By 11pm your feet were burning. “Y/N, you can have your break now honey,” May spoke.
“You sure?”
“Mhm, grab something to eat, have a drink.”
Your shift would end at 5am, so keeping your energy was important. Nodding you headed to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water as you went.
Eddie turned slightly to see who was coming in, “Order?”
“Just mine.”
“What can I get for you?”
“Just some fries please.”
The man raised a brow at you,”That’s all you want?”
“Mhm.” He nodded, turning back to the grill, there were no tickets so it shouldn’t take too long. You opened your bottle of water, taking a swig.
“Go sit, I’ll bring it over.”
“You sure?”
“Do you know you ask that question about 50 times in a shift. I’m sure, go rest.”
You chuckled, pushing back into the main area, taking a seat on the furthest table. You head rested on your folded arms on the table, closing your eyes.
There was the faint sound of music playing from a jukebox, chatter, the sizzling of pans in the kitchen. It had become a soothing sound, a sound you were used too.
A few minutes passed, lightly dozing as you sat there. A hand pressed on your shoulder, “Hey.” Eddie.
“I’m awake.”
“I can see that. Eat up.” You rubbed your eyes, looking at the food on the table.
There was fries and a burger, “I only asked for-“
“I know. But you’re also falling asleep, so you need the energy. Eat up,” he said, offering you a tight lipped smile.
“Thank you.”
“Mhm. Eat.” You nodded, taking one of the fries, Eddie left you to it. Turning you head to watch him, you saw his eyes already on you.
Both of you looked away quickly, faces flushing. You tried to focus on your food, your shift would soon be over, then you wouldn’t see Eddie for a few days.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
It was finally the end of your shift and you were dead on your feet, you had no idea how the others did it. You threw your apron into your bag, sliding on your jacket and getting your car keys.
“See you later,” you waved to Liz who’d just arrived. “You get some rest Honey.” Heading out the back, you were met by Eddie, he stood by the wall smoking a cigarette.
“You heading out?” he asked.
“Mhm, I’ll see you Monday,” you replied, heading towards your car, feet heavy and eyes sore. “Y/N hang on.”
You turned to see Eddie, he threw the cigarette butt to the ground, “You’re dead on your feet, let me give you a ride.”
“It’s fine Eddie.”
“No it’s not, you look like you’re gonna fall asleep at the wheel. Come on we can even take your car, if you trust me.”
“Sure, but are you-“ he cut you off.
“Honestly, I’m sure. I don’t want you getting hurt. Now key,” he said, holding out his hand. You dropped them into his large palm without another word, heading to the passenger side.
“So where are we headed?” Eddie asked, you mumbled out your address, “Not too far then.”
“No not really. You really don’t have to do this.”
“Sweetheart, honestly it’s not a big deal.”
Holy fuck. Sweetheart. Oh my god. Your half asleep brain couldn’t deal with this.
“W-what about your van?”
“I’ll just walk back and pick it up, no big deal.”
“Eddie-“
“Shush.”
You sighed, knowing you weren’t going to win this fight. You sat quietly, it wasn’t awkward it was nice. It was a comfortable silence. Resting your head against the window, you heard Eddie pull out from the diner.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Hey, Sweetheart, wake up.” Eddies soft tone brought you back. “I’m awake.” A light chuckle came out, “I know you are. You’re home.”
Looking up you were parked outside your house, “Thank you,” you said.
“Anytime.” The pair of you climbed out of your car, Eddie placing the keys back in your hand.
“You get some rest okay?”
“Okay,” you mumbled, looking at your feet. “Sweetheart, seriously,” he lifted your face softly with his fingers, holding it so you’d meet his eye.
“How many jobs have you done this week?”
“Well … I did a couple shifts at the diner, then I babysat Holly Wheeler, then I helped out at the green grocers. That’s about it.”
“And then you’ve been coming home and cleaning? Making dinner?”
“My mom can’t do it all alone.”
“You don’t have to do it all either, you’re gonna make yourself sick.”
“I’m fine.”
“Seriously you need to rest. I’m gonna tell Liz to swap your Monday shift okay?”
“No! Eddie please I’m fine.”
“But you’re not.”
“I need the money, I need to help my mom.”
“Your mom is the parent this can’t all be on you.” You felt anger bubbling up in your stomach, an emotion you’ve never felt towards Eddie.
“Well hospital bills don’t pay themselves, my dads care won’t pay itself off. I need to help her or we loose everything and I won’t do that. So think what you want, but if I don’t work at the diner on Monday I’ll find somewhere else,” you said, pulling your face away from his hand.
“Thanks for the ride,” you slinked passed him, unlocking the front door, not even looking behind you as you went in.
“Shit,” the curly haired boy said to himself.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
You were back in the diner for your Monday shift, and maybe Eddie was right, maybe you were making yourself sick. On Saturday night you babysat some kids down the street. Then on Sunday you helped clean Mrs Harris’ house again, then came home to do your own.
“Order up,” Eddie called from the kitchen, you walked over taking the plates. “It’s for table 7.” You hummed in acknowledgement, heading over to the group.
It was 4 men, older than your mother, but younger than Liz. They seemed to be businessmen, you didn’t have a lot of those passing through here.
“I’ve got the waffles and bacon,” you spoke, sliding the plate in front of one of them. “Blueberry pancakes.” Another man raised his hand, “I’ll be back with yours in a second.”
“Take all the time you need Sweetcheeks,” one of the man said, his voice was sickly and you could feel his eyes on your behind as you walked back to the counter. You skin crawled at the feeling.
“Is this the last of it for 7?” You asked Eddie.
“Yeah, that’s all. You okay?” He questioned, you could see his furrowed brows through the window. “Yeah, fine.”
Turning you headed back to the men, “I’ve got scrambled eggs, bacon and hashbrowns.” You placed the plate down as quickly as you could without throwing it at the man. “And here’s the Old Bear special,” you said, to the creepy man.
“Thanks Sweetcheeks.”
“Can I get you anything else?”
“How about a top up?” he said, shaking his empty coffee cup. “Sure.”
Grabbing the jug of freshly brewed coffee you, took the mans mug, along with the others at the table, filling them up. “Can I get you anything else?” Please say no.
“Actually, I’d love a piece of you,” the man smirked, grabbing you by the waist and pulling you to him. This caused you to panic dropping the coffee jug, the glass exploded everywhere and the hot liquid splashed your skin.
“You stupid girl!” The man exclaimed, throwing himself from the booth, his lap covered in the scalding liquid. “I-I’m so sorry!” you exclaimed.
“How stupid can you be! You burnt me! You absolute fool!”
“What’s going on over here?” Liz asked.
“This stupid waitress spilt hot coffee all over me and my breakfast, I demand that she’s fired!”
“I only dropped the coffee because you grabbed me!” you shouted.
“You stupid bitch! I’ll grab you alright,” the man launched for your throat, but was stopped by a hand around the back of his shirt.
“Get out,” Eddie said in his ear, his tone deadly, his eyes unblinking. “Me? She’s the one who-“
“You come in, you assault my staff and she panics, that’s your fault. You want to press charges go for it, but I doubt your wife will be happy when she finds out you’re trying to get with other women.”
“You asshole.”
“Get out of my diner, all of you. Before I show you how much you’ve pissed me off.”
The four men scrambled out, falling over each other as they went.
“Are you alright Honey?” Liz asked, wrapping her arm around your shoulder.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine. I’ll uh, go and get a broom and the mop.”
“Oh no Honey I’ll do it.”
“It’s fine, it’s my fault.”
“No. Don’t even think that,” Eddie spoke up, walking over to you, “It was that assholes fault. You’re going home.”
“W-what no!”
“Yes, well actually you’re going to the hospital to get your arm checked.”
You looked down, not even realising the burning sensation on your right arm. It was covered in hot coffee. “I have a shift to finish.”
“Fine, I’ll drive you there now. Liz, you and James will be okay right?” he asked.
“Sure and if not, I’ll call Chris or May or Connie.”
“Great, come on get your stuff, let’s go.” Eddie led you out the back, holding your things in his hand, another on the small of your back.
“We’ll take my van okay, we can pick up your car later,” Eddie spoke. You just nodded, not really having any words to say. Climbing up, you took your bag and jacket from him, placing it by your feet.
“You okay?” he asked.
“I’m fine.” Minus the humiliation, the burning on your arm, being assaulted by a man, and you know probably losing the best job you’ve ever had - yeah you were great.
“Sweetheart, hey. It’s okay, you’re alright.” Eddies hands touched your cheeks, wiping away at tears you didn’t even know had been falling. “I’m so sorry,” you sniffled.
“What on earth for? None of that was your fault!” he stated.
“But I could’ve just-“
“Sweetheart he was a slime ball who hasn’t got any in years cause his wife thinks he’s gross. It’s not your fault that he doesn’t know how to behave when a pretty girl is around.”
Pretty.
“I’m just sorry. I really liked working here.”
“Liked? You leaving or something?” he asked. “I thought that after that I’d - well you wouldn’t want me to work there anymore.”
“You’re like my favourite person at this place, if I had it my way you’d go nowhere.”
“I don’t want to leave.” He leaned over and squeezed your good hand, “Then don’t, except right now because you need a doctor.”
You huffed a laugh, and Eddie pulled away, started up the truck and you were on the way.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Walking into the ER, it wasn’t overly busy, and Eddie led you to a seat. “Stay here I’ll get us some help,” he said. You nodded as he went to the desk, speaking to the nurse sat behind it.
The nurse.
Oh man.
Your mom.
“What’s the name?”
“Y/N Y/L/N.”
“What?”
“Y/N Y/L/N,” Eddie repeated. Your mom stood up walking around the desk, eyes meeting yours.
“Baby! What happened,” she said, rushing to your side. “I’m okay mom, just an accident at work.”
“Well thank goodness you came here. Let’s get you fixed up.”
It would probably get her in trouble, but she didn’t care, pulling you through to an examination room. Eddie followed you through, standing at the door.
“So I’m gonna clean it up and wrap it, we’ve got some creams at home to help.”
“I’m okay mom.”
“Thank you for bringing her in,” she spoke to Eddie. “Oh yeah of course.”
“So you work together?” she asked.
“Mhm, yeah Eddies the cook and uh the owner.”
“Well it’s nice to meet you Eddie.”
“You too ma’am.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“I can finish early, take you home,” Your mom said. “It’s fine I’m okay.”
“I’ll drive her, can bring your car by later.”
“You sure?”
“Positive.”
“What a sweet boy. Now go, my shift ends at 4.”
“Okay.”
Your mom pressed a kiss to your head, saying goodbye to the pair of you. Sat in the van, Eddie spoke, “Your mom seems nice.”
“Mhm, she is.”
“I can see why you want to look after her.”
“I’m sorry I snapped at you the other day.”
“I deserved it.”
“You didn’t, how were you supposed to know.”
“I should have backed off, I am sorry about your dad though.”
“Yeah me too, but you know we’re getting by.” He nodded, and sighed before talking, “Sweetheart, I know you’ll hate me for this, but I can’t let you come back to work until that arm heals up a bit okay?”
“Okay,” you whispered.
“But as soon as you’re good to come back, you can.”
“Thank you Eddie.”
“Of course.”
The drive to your house wasn’t a long one, and your arm wasn’t tingling anymore. “Thank you for today,” you said to Eddie.
“It’s okay, uh feel free to say no, but do you want some company?”
“Don’t you have to get back to the diner?”
“I’m the boss, I can go back whenever. So company?” You smiled, nodding, allowing him to follow you into the house.
“Your house is lovely,” he smiled.
“Thank you, uh get comfy, I’m just going to change.” You motioned to the lounge, as you headed to your room, wanting to get out of your work attire.
Changing into sweats and a short sleeve tee, you returned to find Eddie looking at photos dotted around the place. “That was the first vacation we ever went on,” you smiled.
You were stood between your parents, all of you had snowboards, thick coats and pants along with huge boots. You grinned a cheesy smile, a few teeth missing due to your age. Your parents were smiling too, laughing at your enthusiasm.
“You were cute,” Eddie nodded.
“Were?” you joked, but Eddies ears went pink. “I’m not saying you’re not cute now! You’re beautiful! I just mean that-“ You laughed, “Eds I’m teasing.”
The man smiled, face flushed, “You, Sweetheart, are a pain.”
“Hm, sure. Want to watch a movie?” you asked. “Yeah that sounds great.”
“I’ll go make some popcorn.”
I’ve got it, just tell me where it is.”
“I can do it.”
“Seriously, we don’t need another trip to the ER, what would your mother think of me?”
You rolled your eyes at him, making the man chuckle and leave to go to the kitchen. “It’s in the cupboard above the microwave,” you called to him.

The boy looked down, feeling a soft weight on his shoulder. They were half way through Return of the Jedi when he felt it. Looking down his stomach fluttered.
She looked so peaceful, her eyelashes kissing her skin, her chest rising and falling softly. Her hand didn’t look so red and sore now, her mom had done a great job. Soft breaths left the girl as she fell into a deeper sleep.
The curly haired man couldn’t help but smile, resting his own head on hers, letting his eyes fall shut.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
You felt a comforting warmth beneath your cheek, rising and falling. A hand on your waist and a chin on your head. Shit. You’d fallen asleep.
Looking up slightly, you saw Eddie dozing away. He looked so cute. So calm. “Eddie,” you whispered. “Hm?” he mumbled.
“Eddie.”
“What’s wrong?” he said, voice deep and grumbly from sleep.
It was the sexiest thing you’d ever heard.
“We fell to sleep.”
“So?” You laughed at the sleepy boy, letting your head stay on his chest. “See, isn’t that bad is it?” he said.
“No, apart from the fact my mom is definitely home and has seen us.”
“I should probably go then,” he mumbled into your hair. “You don’t have to.”
“I know, but I need to check on the diner.”
You nodded, pushing up off of him, leading him to the front door. “Thank you for today.”
“Of course, I hope you don’t mind if I call to check how you’re doing.”
“Not at all, I mean you could drop by if you want.”
“Well I have to bring your car back so, yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
“I’ll see you,” you smiled softly. The man raised a hand, walking to his van.
Shit, you couldn’t let him go.
“Eddie!” you called, jogging over, feet cold on the concrete beneath. “What is it?” he asked, concern in his eyes.
“Um, I just,” you began, but stood on your tiptoes, pressing your lips to his plush ones. They were warm and soft and made your stomach burst. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” you whispered.
“I’ll see you,” he smiled.

“Yum, I always dreamed of eating chicken out of a can.” F/n said as her eyes lowered at the spoon of chicken chunks. It was cooked, but the watery white paste and the soggy vegetables with the pasta that were also added disgusted her.
Next to her, Hitoshi watched as she let the chicken chunks plop back into the can. Some juice had splashed out, landing on his hand and with a face he wiped his hand on his jeans, “Ew.”
“Bet it’s tasty too.” She grabbed a spoonful, looking at before a grin etched on her face and waved it to the male's lip beside her, “Open wide!”
“I’m not gonna put that in my mouth after you just put it in yours!” He backed his head away.
She made train noses as she inched closer, “Here comes the train!”
He held her wrist so that she wouldn't come any closer, “Stop it!”
She laughed and went back into her seat. She lifted her can and looked at his, “Wanna trade? I’d rather eat beans than this. It’s probably rotten.”
He held his beans closer to his chest, “And let myself get food poisoning? No.”
She huffed as she set the can down and leaned back on her hands, looking at the night sky, “This blows.”
He slowly munched in his food and looked at the fire crackling, silently agreeing with her, “You want to go see Itsuka? I’m sure she’s still up and bored.”
“Hell yeah.” She stood up, her back popping in the process. She then looked at the male as he stood up, wiping his hands from the small dirt that latched on him, “Maybe we can tell her our secret, if you know what I mean.”
He gave her a look as they both walked to the injured girl's home, “The way you say it…makes it sound so wrong.”
Her eyes widened as a blush sat on her cheeks, “What?! I didn’t mean it like that! I would never do that with you! I mean-!”
He refused to let out a smile as they reached the top of the stairs where Itsuka resided. He entered with F/n closing the door and knocked on the bedroom door. When he heard a voice telling them to come in, he entered, “Bored?”
“You bet.” She grunted, her brows furrowed when she closed her book, “I’ve already read this twice. I even read the part where the author tells their life story.”
“That’s boring.” He said and sat near her covered legs, “We thought we’d come by and keep you company.”
“That’s sweet.” The girl smiled and tried to move to allow F/n to sit next to her.
“You’re good.” F/n raised her hand to stop her movement as she pulled a chair out. She grinned as she leaned on the chair, her chest resting to the backside, “So…what’s my dad like? You guys had him as a teacher, right?”
“Scary!” Itsuka quickly said with a smile, “I didn’t have him personally, but from what I heard, he was very strict. So thankful for having Mr. Kan, even though he was also strict.”
“He wasn’t that bad.” Hitoshi grumbled as his fingers played Itsuka’s blanket, “He’s a great tutor. Helped me with all my classes.”
“Oh!” F/n laughed out and pointed at the male, “Now I know why you look so familiar! I remember seeing you in my dads car when he gave you a ride back home! You remember that?”
As he thought, Itsuka confusingly looked at her, “You don’t go to U.A? I thought since your dad worked there, you went there too?”
“Nah.” She waved her hand, “I wanted to stay with my friends.”
“What school did you go to?” The orange-haired girl asked, ignoring Hitoshi as he mumbled in thought, “I’m assuming it has to be close to our school.”
“Isamu Academy.” She smiled, “Besides wanting to stick with my friends, they have a great Archery class.”
“You know how to do that?” She beamed, “That’s so cool! When I’m healed, maybe you can teach me?”
“Totally!” F/n then pointed at the male beside them, “Maybe you can do better than him. With the way things are going I honestly don’t know if he has it in him.”
“I’m right here.” The male glared at her before looking at Itsuka. His eyes then wondered to her wound that was covered, “Did Yagi come by?”
“Ah, yeah.” She grunted when she shifted in her seat, the pain coming back, “I think it’s healing fine. Sometimes I can feel it, but there are times where it's numb.”
Unknowingly, F/n and Hitoshi shared a glance as Itsuka looked down to her clothed wound. Hearing her say she couldn’t feel it was concerning, especially since the wound had stitches.
“Have you told Yagi?” He asked, looking away from F/n.
She nodded, her smile faltering, “He said it might be the pain meds rejecting, or whatever that meant. But he’s been keeping a close eye on it. Coming in every hour to clean it.”
“That’s good, right?” F/n glanced at them, trying to brighten the mood, “Besides, my dad brought a load of supplies which meant he must have brought painkillers. Bet if I ask him he would give me some.”
“Actually,” Itsuka looked down at her hands, “Yagi also mentioned that I might need a shot. Considering there’s no doctor around, who knows If I…who knows when that might happen.”
“Maybe a doctor will happen to stumble on by…” Hitoshi said, “What are the chances?”
“Yeah, right. We’ll be lucky to even have a nurse or whatever is the term for those who aren’t good enough to be doctor come by.” F/n said as she let out a laugh, but she groaned and clutched her leg when the male kicked her shin.
He gave her a look as if to say, “Seriously?”
Itsuka chuckled, ignoring their behavior, “Yeah, but we got to keep hopeful, right?”
“Exactly.” The other two said, offering her a smile. Hitoshi then whipped out a deck of cards that he stuffed in his pockets. They settled for a simple game, one that he was good at. The two girls had trouble keeping up with his speed. It wasn’t until the fourth round where F/n slammed her cards down and glared at him, “How!? I almost won!”
He smugly smiled as he fanned himself with his cards, “I’m a natural.”
Itsuka laughed as they bickered. Her yawn then caught their attention. She wanted to continue playing, but her eyes threatening to close saddened her, “I think it’s time for me to turn in. Can you guys come back in the morning?”
“Yep!” F/n said as she placed the chair back, “Don’t you worry about it. We’ll come back with pizza or something.”
Hitoshi shook his head and let out a sigh at her, “Goodnight, Itsuka.”
Hearing her call back, they closed her bedroom, her lamp peeking underneath her door. When they entered outside, he turned to F/n, “I do remember you.”
She smiled, letting him continue, “It was raining and he forgot to pick up something from the school. I looked in the backseat and you were passed with a bag next to you. Aizawa told me not to worry about the way you slept, cause your neck was bent and you were halfway out of your seat.”
“Ah.” Her smile grew as they reached his home, which wasn’t too far since it was right next door, “I came back from a game. I remember seeing your hair before I slept. Man, that was long ago wasn’t it?”
“A year or so.” He said as he opened his door. He then awkwardly glanced back at her, giving her a stiff smile, “..Goodnight, I guess.”
“Goodnight, Hitoshi.” She waved at him, walking down the stairs slowly until she heard his door close. She then quickly headed to her father that was in the parking lot, staring at something in his hand, “Dad. What are you doing?”
He quickly closed his fist and looked at her, his brow furrowed, “Aren’t you supposed to be asleep? It’s past midnight.”
“How do you even know it's past midnight?” She mumbled as she looked at the sky before sitting down next to him, “And to answer your question, I was with Hitoshi. Your super star student!”
He smiled at her, “You two seem to be getting close.”
Her smile disappeared as she gave him a dead look, “Wherever you’re getting at, don’t.”
Despite the feeling of being incomplete, he softly let out a chuckle, “It’s good to see you making friends and with Hitoshi no less. You two are completely different so to see you two together is surprising.”
“Yeah, I can see that.” She tilted her head as she imagined the boy's face, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks but she quickly shook off, unknowingly her father catching the sight.
“Do you like it here?” He suddenly asked as he stared ahead to where the curtains swayed, “It’s small. Not a lot of people to keep safe.”
She hummed, “I guess. I mean, I haven’t met everyone yet, but they look friendly and besides I made some friends.” She stared away at the stars and looked at him, already knowing if she were to ask the same question, he would agree with her only to keep her happy. Instead, she settled for the first question she asked, “What are you even doing here? I thought you’d be asleep. Or with Yamada or Kayama, or Yagi.”
“Don’t worry about it.” He ruffled her hair, careful to not touch her bandage and as always, he reverted the question back to her. She never seemed to catch on, which he found amusing, “Did Toshinori check that out?”
“Yeah.” She pulled away from him and fixed her hair, “It’s looking good, nasty, but good.”
“Just make sure it doesn’t start to smell. That’s when we have to start working.” He said, “Did you behave?”
She sweatdropped as she looked away from him, “Of course!”
Speaking of wounds, she glanced at her father. The face of Itsuka popped in her mind, “Itsuka is worried her wound isn’t healing right. I think she’s trying her best to not seem scared and she’s doing a really good job at that. So, props to her.”
“Yeah.” Shota mumbled, his eyes glancing at her as he thought back to what Toshinori had told him.
Her wound, Itsuka’s, has gotten badly infected. It looked like it was swelling from the red skin. Bodily fluids were coming out and her veins around were a dark shade of purple that had the older male deeply concerned for her. Toshinori had said it was a miracle she wasn’t in excruciating pain, considering the smell it was emitting. The smell wasn’t strong, but if you were to get closer to it, then you could definitely tell something was wrong.
He knew it wasn’t the dead’s blood that had infected it, otherwise she would have been long dead. The reaction could have been from not having the right sedation. Without a shot, she would surely die.
The news had Shota upset, considering Itsuka used to be a student at his school. A good student who aced all her tests and made friends with almost everyone due to her kindness.
He wanted to reassure his daughter, but he didn’t want to put hopes in her head. Instead he settled for a smile and ruffled her hair again, ignoring the glare she sent him, “Go to bed. I want you to help me with something tomorrow morning.”
Her eyes brightened as she stood up, “Am I going outside to help you look for stuff?!”
“No.”
Her eyes lost her shine, “Fine. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.” Hearing the door close, he let out a long sigh. His head dropped to where he could see his closed fist. He blinked as he opened them, the wedding ring neatly sitting on the palms of his hand.

Season 2, Episode 4 Liveblog
Teaser:
Selene is so sanguine about her entire livelihood going up in smoke! It’s almost like this has happened before
Werewolf Perrin rumors have been crushed!
The problem with the Forsaken Ski Chalet is that there’s a Myrdraal infestation in the basement
It is a personal insult that the subtitles just say [chanting] when Ishy is clearly dialing up Lanfear (also if anyone can overwrite the audio for this scene with the dial-up modem sound I want to see the clip)
DARK PROPHECY IS A GO
Awww she’s an amateur artist
Dollars to donuts that ‘older sister’ is an Aes Sedai
It has to be so painful coming back home
Selene is so sanguine about her entire livelihood going up in smoke! It’s almost like this has happened before
How long, Selene? Exactly how long has it been?
I’m gonna need fanart/fanfic of the Forsaken Ski Chalet up near Kinslayer’s Dagger
Awwwwwwwwwww
The Accepted sleeves look AWESOME I know I keep saying that but it’s true! They’re little embroidered ombre flames
Alanna is like ‘I don’t do therapy, I only do sex advice’
Hmmmmm, that doesn’t sound like stilling aftermath, another point in favor of ‘shielded’
It’s good that they are namedropping Cads this early; she came out of nowhere in the books.
DARK, Alanna. Also I bet I know what that change in Moiraine was; the timeframe is right for it to be when Gitara died & she got her quest.
Moiraine is on the case!
Ooooooooooooh this is going to be FUN
DAMN so that’s why she wanted that specific red wine. This feels very on par with the books- Moiraine a step behind but trying desperately to stay in the loop and get Rand what she thinks he needs
Moiraine, damn
Yeah, no point letting him destroy himself until all value has been extracted from him :/
Elayne like ‘she’s been promoted’ lmao she would think it was just that
Oh Egwene, you have not even begun to feel like shit
Ooooh someone gave Liandrin her marching orders
FORESHADOWING
Awww it’s Hopper! Hi Hopper
Werewolf Perrin rumors have been crushed! It’s ok he is a werewolf in my heart, the way Rand is a ghost in my heart and Mat is a vampire in my heart. And by ‘in my heart’ I mean ‘in the subtext’
Huh, interesting thing with the visions
Perrin like ‘excuse me, why did I not get an instruction manual and personal tutoring, this is a shitty apprenticeship so far’
None of the Tower’s fucking business honestly (this is also why info about the Power doesn’t get shared but whatever)
Lmao Selene you lie about more than that
Her face when Rand says ‘you’d be surprised’ lmao, that’s a Lanfear Face (TM)
Oh honey you haven’t even broken the world yet
“[dice rattling]” IT’S MY BOY!!!
Is Min gonna have Mat kidnapped by the Seanchan and taken to Falme? I am INTRIGUED
I’m glad the show explores the rift in families created by the long lives of Aes Sedai
Liandrin says ‘Rescue mission! You love a rescue mission!’
Alanna does not like Dark Prophecies written in blood, I guess?
Ooooh there’s that Damodred spirit (political maneuvering)
“This is my room.” - Elayne
“didn’t ask, don’t care” - Nyneave
Egwene no no no you already have enough trauma you don’t need to go to Falme
Uh oh, always a bad sign when Ishy shows up in your dreams (I love that the non-ta’veren are getting Ishy dreams!) also at this point it should be obv to everyone that Liandrin is bad news bears, even if you missed the lying
Oooooh interesting, what IS In Cairhein?
The problem with the Forsaken Ski Chalet is that there’s a Myrdraal infestation in the basement
Lmao like she didn’t know
Selene doesn’t know anything about being seen as a monster, nope
Oh ok that bit about her soul is great
Rand is vanilla
What the hell
Wow that is the most awkward thing I can imagine happening between Rand and Moiraine, you’re gonna give him a complex about… killing… women… I see
I cannot wait to see Lanfear do some horror movie shit
YEAH
AVI NEXT EP!!!

finals week | various genshin x reader
ft. al-haitham, childe, zhongli
your boyfriend helps you during finals week.
a/n: laugh out loud for my ap psych exam next week wooooooooo
warnings; none.
al-haitham;
your boyfriend is very smart. you know this, the akademiya knows this, the scholars know this--everyone knows that he’s a bona fide genius in his field and beyond.
however, a consequence of his being so bright is that he’s a relentless tutor, which is why you’re sitting in your study, studying your ass off for your final exam before matriculation.
“define altruism,” he states, casually leaning in a chair across from you. several pens and papers are strewn about the room. your computer monitor blinks blankly, long abandoned. you drum your fingers on the table, and he raises an eyebrow. instantly, he reads your mind. “the vahumana perspective, to be specific.”
he makes a hand motion for you to be quicker about it. you straighten your back. “selfless care for others, especially when in danger. there are multiple theories as to why people are altruistic. some believe it’s solely the environment, others believe that it depends on pre-disposition, or that it is learned behavior.”
“good,” he places the flashcard down. “two more to go. give me an example of a social script.”
you pause, attempting to think before you speak. “social scripts are guides that people follow to approach social situations.”
he clicks his tongue. “not an example.”
“shit!”
“language,” he chides.
you sit and think, leg bouncing up and down. he raises an eyebrow, waiting for a response. suddenly, you have insight. “when you and i go on a date, we follow a social script. we wait to be seated, we call over our waiter, and we tend to leave a good tip at the end of our meal. we aren’t told to do those things, but because we’ve watched other people do so, we act the same way.”
“very well done. i’ll have to reward you on a date after this,” he smiles, before focusing his attention once again. “alright, final one for the night. people tend to fall in young adulthood. explain why this could be, based on the vahumana’s perspective on interpersonal attraction.”
“sentimental, are we? i didn’t know you were a sap,” you tease, but then you shake your head. biting your lip, you lean back in your chair as you think.
“first, many people attend secondary and post-secondary institutions. often, like at the akademiya, undergraduates leave their homes and stay on campus. that change puts the same people together all the time, or in close proximity. close proximity results in the mere-exposure effect, which is when people tend to like someone by just being near them.
“second, even if people don’t attend universities, people tend to truly get settled in their identity during young adulthood. there, we tend to hang out with people who are like us. for example, you and i met because we had the shared identity of scholars at the akademiya.
“third, according to some perspectives under the vahumana branch, some would say that the overarching issue that young adults face is the decision for intimacy or isolation. in this stage of life, people recognize the importance of intimate relationships, especially romantic ones. thus, they fall in love.”
“wonderfully put,” al-haitham sets down the card, and picks up your hand, kissing the back of it. “you did excellently, my dear.”
“i sure hope so. we went at it for three hours straight,” you roll your eyes playfully. “archons, you’re a ruthless tutor.”
“you’ll thank me later when you have high marks on your exam.”
childe;
“why did i study sports medicine?!” you exclaim as you flop your head down on the living room coffee table. your boyfriend peeks his head in, freshly showered after a workout.
“what’s up?” he asks, oblivious to the mess of papers on the living room floor.
“i hate finals. this will be the death of me.”
“yeah, i’m glad i never chose to go into any of those fields,” he remarks, to which you groan.
“i bet a business major like you would never have to figure out the difference between isotonic and isometric exercises,” you roll your eyes, before focusing on your laptop again. “plus, you play sports for the university, and you’re definitely gonna play professionally after this whole thing! gah, you have it so easy, childe.”
there’s silence as he watches you return to your work. engrossed in highlighting a little more, you haphazardly take notes for review. when he doesn’t leave after a moment or two, you twist yourself to look back at him. “did you need something or are you gonna just watch me study?”
“you need a break,” he declares. he strides over to you, pulling you off of the couch.
surprised, your brows furrow. “hey, i really need to--”
without a chance to finish your sentence, your boyfriend smacks you in the face with a pillow. the cushion falls flat off your face, revealing your gaping mouth and shocked expression. as if on instinct, you pick it up and volley it back towards him.
an exchange of pillows takes place in your living room. fuzz and feathers fly about the room as you toss them around. childe is all grins, sliding around in his socks and never once relenting in the pillow fight.
eventually, you both collapse on the ground, chests heaving. your notes and pens are knocked off the table, but you couldn’t care less. childe is beside you, equally exhausted. with a deep breath in, you look over at him.
“thank you, sweetheart. i needed that,” you say, kissing him on the cheek.
“anytime, my love,” he reassures, before smacking you with a pillow again.
zhongli;
it’s an ungodly hour, but your liyuean literature exam is more important than sleep.
you blink blearily at your computer screen, writing a few more notes on the records of the gallant. your back is slouched as you take a bright yellow highlighter and run it over the sloppily printed ink. after a moment, you take another look at it, only to find it unreadable. groaning, you run a hand over your face and sink into the back of the dining room table.
“evening, love,” your boyfriend greets you with a soft smile and hands behind his back. he stands tall, casting a shadow over your disarray of notes.
“you’re a sight for sore eyes,” you murmur, briefly acknowledging him before returning to your work. after this last test, you’ll be able to go on another nice date with your boyfriend. momentarily, it sends a surge of motivation through you as you thumb through the book.
“i know you’re busy, and you won’t come to bed even if i ask you nicely,” he says gently, but you’re only half listening. “but, right now, i must make sure you’re taking care of yourself.”
raising your eyebrow, you look at him confusedly. “that’s really sweet, dear, but i’m doing alright, really.”
he looks at you with a deadpan expression before casting a glance at your several mugs of coffee scattered across the dining room table, wrinkled clothes, and disheveled hair. “as you say it is,” he quips sarcastically. “you must eat, my love. then, you can go back to studying.”
he moves his arms in front of himself, revealing a bowl of slow-cooked bamboo soup. your mouth waters instantly and your heart softens at the sweet gesture. suddenly, you snap out of it. “a-ah, i can’t. i have to stay focused…” you murmured, turning your head.
zhongli walks over with the bowl of soup, and the scent is heavenly. placing it in front of you, he pats your head and kisses your cheek. “you will not be able to handle your all-nighter without some food.”
“sweetheart…” you trail off.
“darling,” he responds curtly, not backing down.
reluctantly, you take the spoon into your mouth and eat. it re-energizes you quickly, and you quickly gulp it down. your boyfriend only chuckles, sitting across from you as you replenish yourself.
after demolishing the meal, you look up at him with tender eyes. “i owe you one. sorry for being stubborn.”
“no worries, love. your stubbornness is what will give you a perfect score on this test. although, if you’re willing to have my soup, maybe you’d be willing to go to bed…”
“not a chance.”

The Game She Plays- Chapter 7
Previous Chapter
-Days After- Athena walked into the gym, her sneakers squeaking against the polished floor. She'd seen Caitlyn earlier, laughing with her friends in the hallway, and something about the way she looked today made Athena's chest tighten. She had to see her—talk to her. After the coldness between them, she knew it was time to make an attempt to break through that wall she'd built up.
Caitlyn was sitting on a bench near the free weights, casually scrolling through her phone when Athena approached. There was a shift in the air, a subtle tension that Athena couldn't ignore.
"Hey," Athena started, her voice tentative.
Caitlyn looked up, cold. "Hey, Athena. What's up?"
"Um," Athena hesitated, suddenly unsure of herself. She rubbed the back of her neck, trying to find the right words. "I was wondering... if you could join me for a workout session today."
Caitlyn raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp. She didn't respond immediately, but the silence felt heavy, like she was weighing something. After a long pause, she put her phone down, folding her arms.
"Are you serious?" Caitlyn asked, "After you didn't even acknowledge me at Mel's party, and skipped our tutoring session?."
Athena's jaw tightened. She hadn't expected Caitlyn to be so blunt, but she wasn't exactly surprised. She'd been pushing her away for so long that it wasn't easy to just waltz back in.
"Im sorry, Caitlyn. Its not about you." Athena shot back, her voice more defensive than she intended. "I've been working on some things, and I messed up and I fucked some guy at the party. I just... want to hangout with you. For once."
Caitlyn shook her head, almost laughing, but there was something bitter in her smile. "Yeah, I bet you do. You know, you're playing this game with me. You pretend to want me around, then you act like I'm invisible. Why don't you just admit it?"
Athena's heart hammered in her chest. She hated the way Caitlyn saw her sometimes—like she was nothing but a game to be played, a mystery to be solved. But she wasn't going to back down now. Not after everything.
"I'm not playing games with you, Caitlyn," Athena said, her voice a little softer this time. "I'm just trying to be... real. With you."
Caitlyn met her gaze for a beat, the intensity between them palpable. She stared at Athena for a long moment before standing up and picking up her water bottle.
"Fine," Caitlyn said, her voice still edged with something Athena couldn't quite place. "Let's see how long that lasts."
Athena's heart skipped. She'd just agreed to let her guard down. This was a small victory, and she wasn't about to screw it up.
*****
As they moved to the treadmill section, Athena found herself drifting into a memory from a year ago
the first time she'd ever really noticed Caitlyn in a way that was different from the others.
It had been a warm autumn afternoon, and the volleyball team had just wrapped up a practice. The usual crowd of students had been gathered by the lockers, laughing and talking, with some heading off to hang out and others just going home. Athena had finished up early and was on her way out when she saw Caitlyn, talking animatedly to Mel near the locker room entrance. She couldn't help but notice how stunning Caitlyn looked in that moment—her hair perfectly framing her face, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
A stray volleyball, soared directly toward Caitlyn's bag, knocking it off the bench and spilling the contents across the floor. Athena's heart stopped for a moment. The ball had been her fault, and Caitlyn was right there. Caitlyn blinked in surprise, clearly caught off guard, before looking up at Athena, who was standing frozen in place.
Athena rushed over, her face heating with embarrassment. "Shit, sorry," she muttered, picking up the bag and trying to shove the contents back inside. "I didn't mean to—"
Caitlyn just laughed, her voice light and unbothered. "It's fine. Don't worry about it." Her smile was genuine, the kind that always made Athena's stomach flutter. Caitlyn had a way of making everything seem effortless, and in that moment, Athena realized she wanted to know her more. Much more.
Athena had stayed in the background after that, watching Caitlyn from afar, wondering if she'd ever be able to get close enough to break down the walls that Caitlyn had around her heart. But then, things had gotten messy. Athena had pushed everyone away, including Caitlyn, until now.
Back in the present, Caitlyn said firmly. "You've been avoiding me. Ignoring me. What happened to the girl I thought I was getting to know?"
Athena's jaw tightened, and she finally met Caitlyn's gaze, her expression guarded and unreadable. "I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask for you to care about me."
"I don't care what you think you need or want, Athena," Caitlyn snapped, her frustration mounting. "But you're not going to just push me away without an explanation. You owe me that much."
The silence between them was deafening. Athena stood up, but there was no escape. She couldn't walk away from this. Caitlyn wasn't letting her.
Athena opened her mouth, but no words came out at first. Then, with a heavy sigh, she sat back down, rubbing her temples. "You're right," she said quietly. "I've been a fucking asshole to you. I know that."
Caitlyn waited, her heartbeat in her throat. She didn't know if she was ready for whatever Athena was about to say, but she needed to hear it.
Athena hesitated, her hands fidgeting nervously in her lap. "I've never been good at this... being real with people. I guess I just thought if I kept things surface-level, kept everyone at a distance, I'd be okay." She swallowed hard, as if the words hurt coming out. "But I'm not, Cait. I'm not okay. I... I haven't been okay in a long time."
Caitlyn didn't interrupt, just let Athena continue, the weight of her words heavy in the air.
Athena's voice cracked on the last part, and Caitlyn could see the tears threatening to spill over. It was the first crack in her armour, the first time Athena had ever shown just how deeply she had been hurt.
"I never wanted to be weak again," Athena continued, voice barely above a whisper. "So I built these walls, and I... I never let anyone in. Not after Vanessa. Not after everything I've lost. I didn't want to care. Didn't want to get hurt again."
Caitlyn's chest ached. She wanted to know more about this Vanessa, maybe she was one of her best friends? Everything Athena had been hiding, the reason for her walls, suddenly made so much sense. Athena had never been the tough, unbothered girl she let everyone believe. She had been broken, left to pick up the pieces of herself and had no idea how to let anyone in.
Caitlyn kneeled in front of Athena, gently placing a hand on her knee. "Athena, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not going anywhere. I just... I need you to be honest with me. I can't keep guessing, and I don't want to be a part of your game anymore."
Athena's eyes flickered to Caitlyn's face, and for the first time, Caitlyn saw the vulnerability in her gaze. "I don't know how to be real with you," Athena admitted, voice raw. "I don't know how to let you in."
Caitlyn's heart thudded in her chest, and she leaned closer, her voice steady. "Then let me help. Let me in. I want to understand you, Athena. I want to be there for you, if you'll let me."
Athena bit her lip, her face flushed, and for a moment, there was nothing but the soft hum of the gym's lights. Then, without warning, Athena reached up and cupped Caitlyn's face in her hands, her thumbs brushing over her cheekbones. Caitlyn held her breath, heart racing, as Athena leaned in slowly, her lips barely grazing Caitlyn's ear.
"I'm scared, Cait," Athena whispered.
Caitlyn leaned into her, but suddenly Athena got up.
"Cait, I don't want to hurt you. Please." Athena said defeatedly.
Caitlyn was shocked by the deflection of the moment that was about to occur, but she understood. She nodded, "I understand Athena."

Tainted Hearts
Chapter 43 : Preparations for Exam
The courtyard of the school was a serene setting as Riko, Chika, You, Hanamaru, and Ruby lounged around, enjoying the fresh air. The soft rustle of the wind was accompanied by the sound of lighthearted conversation between the five friends. Chika sighed loudly, flopping her arms across the bench.
"Exams are almost near, and I haven’t studied yet!" Chika groaned, rubbing her forehead in mock despair.
You chuckled, leaning back. "Oh, that’s right! But I’m not surprised you forgot, Chika-chan," she teased.
Chika turned, glaring at her best friend. "How dare you, You-chan! I bet you haven’t studied yet either!"
"You’re right," You admitted with a laugh. "But at least I’m not pretending I’m ready!"
Everyone burst into laughter at their playful banter, the mood light and carefree. Riko, sitting next to them, smiled warmly and turned to the two first-year students.
"How about you two? Have you studied yet?" she asked, her tone gentle.
Hanamaru smiled as she answered, "Ruby and I studied a little bit, zura. We’ve been going to the library when we don’t have anything else to do."
Ruby nodded, adding quietly, "Yeah, sometimes it’s just the two of us studying."
"That’s good, you two," Riko praised them, proud of their dedication.
Suddenly, Chika threw her arms around Riko, clinging to her dramatically. "Help us, Riko-chan! You’re our only hope!" she begged, her tone full of over-the-top pleading.
You lit up with an idea, snapping her fingers. "Oh, I know! Why don’t we have a group study?"
Riko tilted her head thoughtfully. "That’s a good idea," she agreed.
Chika’s eyes brightened, and she quickly added, "And why don’t you invite Tsushima-sensei too, Riko? She could help us study!"
The other three nodded in enthusiastic agreement, their eyes lighting up at the thought of a private tutoring session with their quirky teacher.
Riko hesitated for a moment. "Hmm… I don’t know," she said, glancing at the eager faces around her.
Chika clung tighter, her voice pleading. "Please, Riko-chan!" she begged.
With a sigh, Riko relented. "Okay, okay, let me ask her later if she’s not busy."
"Yay!" the four of them cheered in unison, clearly delighted.
------------------
Later that day, Riko and Yoshiko were walking home together. The street was quiet, the sound of their footsteps echoing gently in the evening air. Riko glanced at Yoshiko, suddenly remembering something.
"Oh, I forgot to ask," Riko said, breaking the comfortable silence.
Yoshiko turned to her, curious. "Hmm? What is it?"
"Chika-chan and the others are planning to have a group study, and they asked if you could come and help them," Riko explained. "Since the exams are almost near."
Yoshiko thought for a moment, then smiled. "Yeah, sure. I’d be happy to help them out."
Riko’s face lit up with relief. "Really? Thank you! I wasn’t sure if you’d be too busy."
"Anything to help you guys out," Yoshiko replied, her smile growing wider.
------------------
That night, Riko was texting her group chat with Chika, You, Hanamaru, and Ruby in LINE.
Riko: She agreed.
Chika immediately sent a celebratory sticker, a big "Yay!" flashing on the screen.
Chika: Thank you, Riko-chan!
Riko: It’s not me you should thank.
Hanamaru: Don’t worry, Riko-senpai. We’ll be sure to thank Tsushima-sensei too.
Ruby: Where are we going to study?
Riko: Let me ask Yoshiko.
Riko quickly called Yoshiko, who picked up after just one ring.
"Hey, Riri! What’s up?" Yoshiko answered cheerfully.
"Hi, Yocchan! The others were asking where we’re going to do the group study," Riko explained.
"Hold on a second," Yoshiko said. "I think I know a place, but I’ll have to call someone real quick."
"Sure," Riko replied, waiting as Yoshiko put her on hold.
Yoshiko dialed Mari next. The phone barely rang before Mari’s lively voice answered.
"Oh, Yoshiko! Need help sleeping? Don’t worry, I’ll come over—"
Yoshiko immediately cut her off. "No, thank you."
Mari giggled. "Aww. What’s up?"
"Riko’s friends are planning a group study session, and we don’t have a place to do it. Could we borrow one of the rooms in your hotel?" Yoshiko asked.
Mari laughed. "Helping out your little girlfriend’s friends? How sweet of you! Of course, you can borrow a room! You’re welcome anytime."
Yoshiko smiled, feeling grateful. "Thank you, Mari. I knew I could count on you."
Mari's teasing tone returned. "I’ll even give you and Riko your own room for some ‘private studying.’ Wink, wink."
Yoshiko, blushing, simply hung up, ignoring Mari’s laughter. She sent a quick thank-you message afterward, making Mari smile.
Returning to the call with Riko, Yoshiko said, "Sorry for the wait. We’ve got a place to study now."
------------------
The next day, they arrived at Mari’s luxurious family hotel. As soon as they stepped inside, Chika, You, Hanamaru, and Riko were in awe, admiring the fancy decor. Ruby, who had been there before with her sister, just smiled, while Yoshiko stood next to Mari, watching the group’s reaction.
"Welcome!" Mari announced grandly, her arms spread wide.
"Thank you, Principal Mari," Chika said.
Mari looked horrified. "No, no! Call me Mari-chan! I’m not that old!"
She then pulled them into a group hug, causing You to blush. "Thank you, Mari-chan," You mumbled, her cheeks still pink.
Mari giggled. "How cute! You-chan!"
Turning to Ruby, Mari asked, "Ruby-chan, is your sister at Kanan’s already?"
Ruby nodded. "Yes, she’s waiting for you there."
"Perfect!" Mari said before handing Yoshiko the room card. "Here’s the key to your study session room. Snacks are already in there, so eat up!"
Chika’s eyes sparkled. "Thank you, Mari-chan!"
As they were about to head to their room, Mari leaned in close to Yoshiko, whispering, "Here’s another card key… for your own ‘study session’ with Riko," she winked.
Yoshiko blushed and sighed in irritation. "This girl..." she muttered.
Noticing Yoshiko’s blush, Riko asked, "What did she hand you?"
"Nothing," Yoshiko said quickly. "Let’s go to the room."
------------------
They entered the study room, and again, everyone except Ruby and Yoshiko was in awe of the luxurious setup. Chika beamed as she rushed toward the fancy snacks laid out on the table.
"Look at all these fancy snacks!" she exclaimed, popping one in her mouth. "Delicious! You should try some, Riko-chan!"
Riko tried one and smiled. "Wow, they’re amazing."
Hanamaru and You followed suit, enjoying the treats. Hanamaru, smiling widely, said, "Delicious, zura!"
Yoshiko cleared her throat, drawing their attention. "Let’s sit down and get started with the study session, so you can all head home before it gets dark."
Chika giggled, "Woah, it feels like we’re in class."
They all gathered around the table, and the session began. Yoshiko helped Chika and You, while Riko focused on tutoring Hanamaru and Ruby. The study atmosphere was both serious and playful, with Yoshiko giving tips and occasional light scolding when Chika got distracted.
A little later, Chika grinned and teased, "You two feel like our parents, with the way you’re helping us."
Yoshiko and Riko exchanged a quick, blushing glance before Yoshiko turned back to Chika. "Takami, concentrate."
"Sorry!" Chika giggled, earning laughs from everyone else.
You piped up after a while, "Tsushima-sensei, you’re actually pretty cool to hang out with."
Yoshiko smiled, grateful for the compliment. "Thank you."
Chika suddenly chimed in, a sly grin on her face. "Riko-chan, I’m actually really happy you’re dating Tsushima-sensei."
Riko blinked in surprise. "Why?"
"Because now we have our own private teacher and we’re friends with the principal!" Chika said with a laugh.
Everyone burst out laughing at the unexpected comment.
------------------
As night fell, it’s dark outside, and the study session has just finished. Mari pops into the room, her usual energy filling the space.
"Hey, kids! How was it?" Mari asks with a playful grin.
"It was totally fun!" Chika exclaims, looking up from the table still scattered with notes and snacks. "Thank you for letting us use one of your rooms, Mari-chan!"
"No problem!" Mari waves her hand dismissively, but there's a warmth to her smile. "You can use any of my rooms anytime you need!"
The group responds with a chorus of "Thank you!" as Mari’s grin widens.
Then Mari turns to Yoshiko. "Since it's pretty dark outside and I want my little students to be safe, Yoshiko, why don’t you borrow our van outside and take them home?"
Yoshiko glances around, her gaze resting on the group, and then she nods. “Yeah, sure. I’ll drive them home.”
Mari tosses the van key to her, but not without one last tease. "Be sure not to run away with it… you know, with your girlfriend or something."
Yoshiko catches the key with a playful smirk and retorts, "Oh, that’s actually a great idea. Thanks, Mari."
Mari gasps dramatically, but soon bursts out laughing. The playful banter fills the air, making the others chuckle too.
Inside the van, the group settles in, with Yoshiko in the driver’s seat and Riko sitting next to her. Chika, You, Hanamaru, and Ruby are chatting happily in the back.
"Oh, and here’s the other key card you gave me," Yoshiko says, holding up the room key. "I won’t need it, so thank you."
Mari raises an eyebrow but grins knowingly. "Keep it. You never know when you might need an emergency… ‘study’ session with Riko." She winks.
Yoshiko blushes deeply, her cheeks turning red as she quickly shuts the car window in Mari’s face. Mari’s laughter echoes outside the van, as Yoshiko starts to drive away, flustered but smiling.
Mari waves them off with a big smile. "See you at school, and good luck on your exam!"
"Thank you, Mari-chan!" they call out, as Yoshiko starts driving away.
One by one, Yoshiko drops each of them off, exchanging goodbyes and thanks. Eventually, it’s just Yoshiko and Riko left in the van, the quiet night settling around them.
"I didn’t know you could drive," Riko says, her voice gentle as she glances over at Yoshiko.
Yoshiko laughs softly. "Well, you never asked. And I don’t really drive often since I don’t have a car." She shrugs, keeping her eyes on the road.
Riko blushes slightly. "You look extra cool driving," she admits shyly, her cheeks turning a soft pink.
Yoshiko turns to her for a brief moment, winking playfully. "I know."
They both laugh, the atmosphere between them warm and comfortable.
When they finally arrive at Riko’s house, Yoshiko parks the van and turns off the engine. "Wait here," she says, getting out of the van and walking around to open Riko’s door.
Riko blinks in surprise as Yoshiko offers her hand. "What are you…?"
"I always wanted to do that," Yoshiko says with a grin, her hand outstretched.
Blushing, Riko takes her hand and steps out of the van, her heart fluttering at Yoshiko’s princely gesture. "How princely of you," she giggles softly.
Yoshiko chuckles. "I try."
At Riko’s front door, they share a brief but sweet goodbye kiss. "See you at school tomorrow," Riko whispers, her smile soft.
Yoshiko smiles back. "Yeah, see you."
After Riko disappears inside, Yoshiko gets back into the van, driving back to Mari’s hotel to return the keys. Once she hands them to one of the staff, she heads home, a quiet smile lingering on her face as the night finally winds down.

Spider Quinn 09: A Part of the Journey - Part 2
SpiderGirl left home after Daria had comforted her, in her usual clumsy way. ‘Maybe I do need grief counselling,’ she considered. She arrived downtown near a Bank. She had heard that there was an attempted break in a day earlier. She was about to look around when she saw Stacy walking down the street. ‘I need to talk to her, given that I have focused on Anna and the boys this week,’ she thought.
“Stacy!”
Stacy turned and saw Quinn coming towards her from up the street. “Quinn?”
“You heard about what happened with Ted, right?” she asked.
“Yes. Like it seems that he may be there for a while,” Stacy said in her usual worried tone.
“But he is alive, there is that.”
“True,” Stacy said. “And that boy has recovered from the snake bite.”
“Ben,” Quinn said. “He was released yesterday. I didn’t expect to be back at the hospital so quickly.”
“I ran into Anna, yesterday,” Stacy said. “She wasn’t that worried.”
“You didn’t see her at the hospital. She did look worried.”
“Right.”
The two caught up as they walked along the street.
Meanwhile, in a house in Lawndale Flats, a public housing estate on the eastern edge of Lawndale the robbers were discussing things.
One of them was channel surfing. “Nothing. Nada. Not a single sidebar. A guy has gotta miss a hundred grand in cash and jewels.”
“Not Osborn. There’s no telling what he has stashed in that mansion.” One of them said as he put a disk in a computer. “Cash, jewels, art, cars, you name it.”
A third one looked at the computer screen. “I think I know why Osborn didn’t file that robbery report. It looks like he has hacked into his rivals computer systems. Quest, Stark, Hammer, you name it.”
“He thinks they can’t trace him to Lawndale huh?” the first one said.
“Probably, but we should pay him another visit,” the second one added.
Osborn was in his home office on the phone. “I don't care. If I wanted excuses, I'd call the police,” he said.
A pause.
“Well you’re supposed to be the best private security firm in Philadelphia,” he said before hanging up. He then noticed that he wasn’t alone. “You broke in again?” he asked.
“That’s obvious, bro.”
“I’m calling the police.”
“You didn't last time. And we know why. We read the disk, Norman.”
“I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You’re hacking into your rivals’ systems. I think Stark would be very interested to know how you bypassed his firewalls.”
“That’s no concern of yours,” one of the robbers/blackmailers said as he punched Osborn.
“What do you want?”
“A million. Cash. If you try anything stupid, even if you think a stupid thought, your disk is gonna be uploaded to the internet for all the world and your competitors, including big baby Tony to see.”
“How do I reach you?”
“We’ll reach you,” one of the blackmailers said as he threw a cell phone down on Osborn’s desk. Then they all made themselves scarce.
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with!” Osborn said into thin air.
After talking to Stacy, Quinn walked along Main Street as her usual self, looking out for suspicious behaviour. She then came up to Zammit’s Boutique. She then noticed that Angie was looking out into the street with a sad expression. “Angie?” she asked as she entered the shop. “Angie?”
“Hey Quinn!”
“Is everything OK?”
“You’re asking me if I’m OK?” Angie asked, quietly, not at all like her usual self.
“Like I know I’m grieving, but…”
“I bet you think it’s great to move to Lawndale, even after what happened. Like a town of opportunity right. Use it as a base for designing fashion?”
“Well, I'm not sure that's the life for me. Like, I’m not sure Lawndale is as great as I thought it was. Is that it? That you think you’ll be stuck here?” Quinn asked.
“Sometimes you don't have a choice,” Angie groused.
“If you put your mind to it, you’ll get out of here.”
“My grades are getting worse, Morgendorffer!”
“Oh!” Quinn said. “Have you thought of tutoring.”
“And be lumped in with weird Anna and her hypochondriac boyfriend?”
“I don’t think they’re dating, and we could do it separately. What does Robert think?”
“Robert doesn’t know,” Angie admitted. “Though I’m sure he suspects something. I’m going to spend the rest of my life here in Lawndale, in this store. I’ll be another ‘Remember her!’
Quinn turned away as a customer asked Angie something, not realising that that customer was one of the robbers. She left the store, thinking about what Angie had said.
“Are you Angie Zammit?” the girl asked.
“What is it to you?” Angie asked, hoping that she hadn’t overheard her conversation with Quinn.
“I’ve seen you do a cheer in Oakwood.”
“Good for you! It’s not working out.”
“Not working out huh?”
“How much did you hear?” Angie asked.
“That you fear that you’re trapped in Lawndale. Like I feel that. I’m Wade.”
“As in Wade McFarlane, who lead the Lawndale Cheer team five years ago?”
“The same. But things happened. I lost my scholarship.”
“It doesn’t seem like I will get one,” Angie groused.
“So, what's your plan now?”
“Don't have one. I just don't want to do this the rest of my life.
“I hear ya. Where's the future in that, huh?” Wade said “Say, uh, we're having a party at our place tonight. Why don't you, uh, swing by?”
“I have to close up.”
“Afterwards.”
‘Sure,” Angie said.
SpiderGirl was still thinking about her conversation with Angie as she walked along the rooftops of the shops opposite. ‘I talk to Ms. Li on Monday,’ she decided.

More Mysterious Break ins
Early in the day, Quinn walked into Ted’s hospital room and found him awake.
“Hi, Quinn!” Ted said.
“Your Mom called and told me you were awake.”
“You’re my first visitor.”
“How you’re feeling?” Quinn asked.
“Still off.”
“Everyone was worried about you.”
“I noticed. There are even flowers from Mr. Osborn,” Ted said.
“I also want to say I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“Letting you get hurt,” Quinn admitted.
“It wasn’t your fault.”
“I know. But do you remember anything about them?”
“Not really, except that one had a hexagon tattoo,” Ted said.
“Something to look into.”
“Are you becoming an investigative reporter?”
“Maybe,” Quinn considered. “Get some rest,” she added as she kissed Ted on the hand.
“I’ll try. Thanks.”
At the same time Norman met Joey and Robert at the theatre.
“This theater means something to a lot of people. I spent every Saturday of my childhood here,” Joey said
“Like it was like being transported to some other place,” Robert added.
“Those are nice stories. But why is it important to you really?” Osborn asked.
“All of our parents met here. I guess we’re trying to hold onto Lawndale’s past.”
“So, I’m supposed to preserve this monument to local history?”
“Yes, Sir,” Robert answered.
“This is business Mr. Allan, Mr. Green. Most of the closing storefronts are becoming office spaces. The downtown needs a parking garage.”
“So, you're going ahead with your plans?” Robert asked.
“You haven’t given me a reason to change my mind.”
After leaving the hospital, SpiderGirl headed downtown and ended up at Zammit’s Boutique again. She saw Angie looking under the weather through the window. ‘I need to talk to her.’
Angie didn’t like it at all. That she had to work at the store after being out the previous night. She saw Quinn enter. ‘Is she going to be like yesterday?’ she asked.
“Do you have a minute?” Quinn asked.
“I’m busy.”
“Do you remember the girl who came in while we were talking yesterday?”
“Doesn’t ring a bell. Lot’s of girls come in here,” Angie responded.
“Angie! This is serious!” Quinn said as she grabbed Angie’s arm.
“Ow! Quinn!” Angie said with a wince.
“What’s wrong with your arm?” Quinn asked.
“I hit it with something, OK?” Angie said as she rubbed it.
But Quinn saw that there was a tattoo there, similar to what Ted had described. “Where did you get that tattoo?”
“Mind your own business!” Angie responded.
“Ted is awake and he described a similar one on one of his attackers.”
“It’s a coincidence I assure you! Now get out of here!”
Quinn then went home.

I agree, recently, especially in the past months or more, I have been struggling to stay motivated, keep a sleep schedule, take my meds at better times, and follow through on ideas that it would be possible to pursue. Having struggled with ADHD for my entire life as well as major depression and anxiety when I was in High School, my limitations because of my mental illness often felt blurred with where my own choices ended. This morning I woke up on time for my job interview, but took an extra five minutes in and woke up to find I missed the entire. Seroquel has always left me groggy in the morning unless I was able to access nicotine quickly.
While I was able to stay up late in college and wake up early despite the copious amount of weed and alcohol I was consuming; my work ethic for my job was something that I could get to no matter what, but my academics were always neglected. My relationship with my teachers deteriorated as issues back at home filled me with impending dread because they would end my relationship with my partner who I had been with since my first year got taken online due to the pandemic. As my graduation neared it felt like I was going to gallows due to my own actions. When my father had lung cancer, he didn't tell me or my mom for a while. They were divorced, and he would usually come to the house to get me, but over time he couldn't, or wouldn't pick me up. He began to work long hours with him sleeping for long stretches of the day and working at night. One way or another I was left alone over and over. He would be at work while I was left at home, and when he was home he would be asleep most of the day due to the night, but also due to cancer. For those who aren't familiar, lung cancer has one of the highest mortality out of most types. The first time he told us, he left and I went back into my mom's house honestly unsure of how to feel. What I remember distinctly in that moment was us watching "How it's Made," particularly about whiskey. My mom says words that would have haunted me, "I bet you cause use that right now." As time went on he slowly lost the battle with cancer. While he was in the hospital, I would be playing football, it was in the summer, and then going to the hospital to see him. Ubenounced to me, that my mom was being kept in the dark about his condition and told me that he was getting better. One early morning my mom got called into the hospital and she returned to inform me that he had passed. After that, my relationship with my mom worsened as I played video games by myself, with friends online, but never in person really. With my sports and video games, I wanted to feel some semblance of pride as the people in my life always stood out on the field in games. I know this sounds petty as fuck, but being good, or at least decent enough to myself was something that I felt would "help" me get past the grief. My academics were pretty mid, to say the least.
Over time, I increasingly lost more and more of a grasp on the motivation to do school, sports, the Boy Scouts, or much of anything else as I had gotten to high school. The school,l I went to, was a prep school on the West Coast where you had to pass a test to get in. I found out later that my test scores for it were pretty bad, to say the least. My grades got even worse as the workload piled higher. I kept playing sports outside of school, but at school, I went to tutoring both and outside trying to keep up, but my ADHD, which had not medicated up until this point had me pacing around school after hours waiting to get picked up despite the work I would've/could've been doing. This went on every year with me being on academic probation every year, but the last. Each year I had my mom crying to me about how she feared every call from the school because of struggling so much, yet I managed every class every year except for a language class that needed to be redone. Moreover, my mom never let me play video games for most of these school years, except for the summer where I had no classes really. It leads to me kind of just existing for the most part, Outside of my sports, in which I am consistently the slowest on the team, despite whatever additional practice I did. I started going to therapy when I was sixteen and was formally diagnosed with depression and anxiety, which explained why I basically would just sleep when I got home to not have to deal with my mom and the constant head fog that I had been in at this point. Halfway through high school, my grandma developed chronic kidney disease. This is bad, obviously, but much like being at home, I found myself left alone in a different way as we were at the hospital for close to six, sometimes seven hours. I couldn't do anything so I would walk around aimlessly for hours.
ADHD is a excuse to act like you have ADHD
Autism is a excuse to act autistic.
Depression is a excuse to act depressed.
CPTSD is a excuse to act like you have CPTSD.
In other words being neurodivergent is a excuse to behave neurodivergent.
At one point people said homosexuality is wrong. People's feeling would get hurt by seeing two men kiss or hold hand. Those people where on the wrong side of history. People who don't accept mental health symptoms are playing the victim and they are hurting themselves.
The consequences of having power over someone is the fault of the powerful not the oppressed.

studying with them
a/n: in honours of exam season :) will be very slow with works, hope you guys will be patient w me! :)
ft. gom + taiga
studying with KISE is like teaching a child. he gets distracted easily, everything around him catches his eye, and he tends to doze off. “ryouta,” you sighed, flipping the textbook, “you need to pass so you can play in the finals. you don’t want to miss that, do you?” he pouted, “i just can’t focus, it’s so boring. why do i need to know algebra when i’m set for life.” you sighed, until, “why don’t we make a bet? for every question you get right, you get a kiss?” knowing that kise was competitive, he immediately accepted the challenge, gaining the full twenty kisses from the twenty questions.
you and MIDORIMA had this special, lowkey cafe that you both would study in when tests and exams were coming up. when he notices you’re getting a bit tired, he would get up and order your favourite drink and pastry before giving it to you saying, “don’t fall asleep right now, we still have a couple hours to go. take a break and eat this.” you happily accepted the snacks, feeling your energy go back up again before you studied the material in front of you.
AOMINE was such a bad influence; he never ever studied, never picked up a pencil or paper. so when you voiced out your concerns to him, telling him that, “can’t you at least study for our future? i’m working hard for ours, and it just seems like you don’t care,” something in him sparks. “do you mind if you can tutor me this week, babe?” he texts you, adding a bunch of sad emoticons. you agreed, and although he had lots of questions about every subject, it also helped you study, since you were basically teaching the material. you made a mental note to treat him to something after exams for working so hard.
another lazy one; MURASAKIBARA. but he’s easier to convince! buy him snacks and he’s basically wrapped around your finger. both of you study in a quiet park on your own, him asking you questions from time to time when he doesn’t understand something. for every subject he studied, you give him a limited-time snack that you’ve collected, solely for this reason.
you and AKASHI study in the comfort of his library in his home. side by side, you both study your own material with soft music playing in the background. he makes sure he has your favourite cup of tea or coffee prepared before you arrive, and he makes sure you take breaks in between sessions. he’ll massage you, he’ll take your hand and lead you out to the garden, or he’ll let you nap on his shoulder as he reads a novel for half an hour. when you need help, he’s immediately at your service, making the material ten times more comprehensible than your teacher.
KUROKO likes to study with you in the library. you both share a spotify session where you take turns choosing a playlist. when he sees you getting antsy while you’re studying, he’ll hold your hand and give you a slight smile; just a little gesture of encouragement. he’ll rub the back of your hand before turning his attention back to his textbook, and then you feel more calm as you read your own. he never lets go of your hand.
KAGAMI really tries to study on his own but can’t because he also gets distracted easily; which is why he loves studying with you! seeing you work hard inspires him to work hard as well, so he takes you to a park near maji burger to study, and then after you guys enjoy a cheap meal! these moments make it more enjoyable for him, and he hopes the same for you.

Jock x Nerd Prompts
|××××××|××××××|××××××| Prompt Type: dialogue, action Trigger Warnings: none |××××××|××××××|××××××| » Person A is the high school's best :insert sport: player. To raise their reputation even further and have a chance at being prom king/queen/royal, they begin to date another popular student in a different clique: Person C. But there are three problems: 1: A has no actual romantic feelings for C. 2: C's head-over-heels with B. And 3: A thinks C's nerdy best friend/sibling, Person B, is really cute and starts falling for them instead. » Person A values their skill in sports and their athleticism, and tries to convince their partner, Person B, to go on jogs and come to the gym with them. Person B prefers to sit at home, read and study, and often tries to have A start to read books they recommend. They eventually settle on a deal: making a home gym. Person A can work out at home while Person B sits nearby (or helps them by sitting on their back during push-ups or sitting near their feet during sit-ups) and reads. » Person A is known as one of the smartest kids in their school. They've offered to tutor other students to gain some extra credit. A is assigned to help Person B, a mean jock who seems much too arrogant and annoying to Person A. Following months of bickering and teasing, the two start to bond and get closer. Their friends start to get suspicious when they catch the two casting lovey-dovey eyed glances at each other during the classes the two have together. Dialogue » "Watch it!- oh. You have really pretty eyes." » "I could throw you, you know." "And I could have you kicked off the :sport: team if you don't let me help you on these assignments." » "Shut up, nerd." "Make me, prep." » "I bet you're secretly an insecure theatre kid who hides their self-esteem issues behind a god complex." » "I know we're supposed to hate each other, but you're making it really hard to not kiss you." » "Listen, I'm only asking you on a date because it was a dare. Nothing more, got it?" » "Are you crying because of a papercut?" "Yes! It hurts!" "You've broken your nose playing soccer and kept playing!" » "Are you trying to seduce me into doing your homework?" » "I am sorry for throwing that ball at you. I forgot you can't catch..." » "We'll get there faster if I carry you-" "Don't even try it." » "Wait, what? I'm not your favorite player on the team?" |××××××| Reblogs & Notes Appreciated <3 |××××××|

Handed Down from Stone
Chapter 9: Etched in Opal Characters: Y'zel Tia, Y'lem Tia, Kana-E Senna, Raya-O Senna, A-Ruhn Senna, E-Sumi Yan, some Elementals Rating: T for Tia Notes: Character Death Warning
-Near the Dravania Forelands, 1562-
"Esuna!"
Y'zel's eyes lit up as the sparkle of his aether surrounded his father. The man coughed a bit and shifted in the bedding atop the sleigh, shaking the building snow off him.
"Very good Y'zel…but you need to keep moving us forward."
The boy frowned at his father, the man looking pale. "Did it not work again?"
"Oh no. It worked fine…but I still need proper medicine to get me back on my feet."
Y'lem offered the boy a smile, the young Miqo'te unable to see the strain behind it. Doing as he was told, Y'zel began to pull again, dragging the bed ridden man along the snowy road.
"Couldn't we ask Master Matoya to help…"
"No," the man wheezed stubbornly. "The folks in Tailfeather will have a healer with the proper medicine."
Y'lem began to cough again in the wake of his insistence. The boy's ears lowered in turn. Left to trudge on, he pulled at the sleigh, finding it rather easy to move over the slick snow, not accounting for how light and thin his father had gotten.
"Are there chocobos in Tailfeather? I miss the chocobos from home."
"There are probably chocobos."
"Really? I bet that's why they call it Tailfeather! Do you think that's why they call it Tailfeather?"
"I don't know Zel…"
"I hope it is. I'm going to ask when we get there. Do you think we could take one home with us? I bet it'd pull the sleigh and we'd go really fast! Don't you think?"
"..."
"I'd take really good care of it if I could. I know how to clean the stables and feed them. Uncle Y'rhul even taught me how to put on a saddle and Uncle Saru'a and Uncle Saru'to showed me how to sweep properly."
"..."
Y'zel's ears perked as he listened for a response. Getting none, he scowled then looked back to find his father still and reclined against the handlebars.
"Daddy?"
Y'lem didn't stir. Quietly, the boy veered off the path and found a tree that had space enough for them to rest under without being burned by snow or low branches. Yawning, he crawled into the blankets with his father, moving his heavy arm around him, before closing his eyes to rest.
-Old Gridania 1-
Y'zel's ears twitched as he stood in the clearing. Whispers came in all directions, disjointed and cluttered, lacking intention until some started to stick out more than others.
"Endless outsiders."
"More squabbling between men over the skies. We should send another mighty wind to remind them who Twelveswood belongs to."
"Not all of them are bad."
"In the days of the Green Wrath, such destruction would never be allowed without penance."
"All should are children of the Shroud. They've protected us when we couldn't protect ourselves."
"Can the pink one year us?"
"Blessed by Hydayln. Though not 'the' most blessed."
"Nonsense. Only out chosen can."
Opening his eyes, Y'zel looked to the Senna siblings and E-Sumi before teetering over and catching himself as he collapsed onto his thighs. Kana-E and A-Ruhn were quick to offer him a hand up while the Guildmaster looked on stoically.
"Sorry. The Echo takes a lot out of me when I force it…," Y'zel apologized before fluttering his ears shyly, "I heard anger towards outsiders…and also a little fondness. There doesn't seem to be a consensus among the voices."
"Well, that sounds about right," Raya-O thought aloud.
"Or a lucky guess," the guildmaster huffed before stepping forward, grey eyes looking up into the Keepers, "But I don't sense any falsehood from you and your cousins' reputations are well known here. Raya-O if you could find time to tutor him."
Y'zel bowed deeply as the guildmaster took his leave, Kana-E leaving with him as she struck up conversation. Letting out an exhale, the Miqo'te looked to the twins before following along. He thought it strange how easily others seemed to continue to adopt him. The imposed exile by his father in Sharlayan and the constant liminality he experienced in Ishgard, and the bitterness exchanged in Coerthas, somehow had not hardened him nor made him unlovable despite feeling like it should.
Home was starting to take many forms and faces. And yet…

fuckboy! kuroo
masterlist | this is part of a collaboration between me and my talented babies!
taglist: @oikawannabeyourbabie
atsumu
- team captain, amazing grades, and looks that have girls swooning over him with a single glance? yup, thats kuroo tetsurou for you
- girls would flock to the gym during their morning and afternoon practices for volleyball, and he often receives bento boxes from them or love notes slipped into his locker
- kuroo absolutely adored the attention he was getting from the girls, complimenting him on how smart and talented he is. like he genuinely just likes it when people compliment him for his skills.
“what can i say? i am one handsome and smart son of a gun.”
“just - just stop talking to them, i wanna go home already.” kenma grumbled.
- can and will flirt back with the girls and he enjoys it. always always has one or two girls on his arms, just out right flirting with them and loving how they giggle out his name.
- constantly surrounded by a group of girls during lunch, half were asking him to tutor them in chemistry while the other half were just vying for his attention and he just sits there soaking it all up with a smile, like a cat that thrives off of attention.
- but he’s never gotten together with any of the girls. always saying no to them the moment they approach him with the notion of confessing that they’re in love with him. kuroo may mess around with them and that’s all there is to it, he just loves how he has them wrapped around his fingers.
- well he seems to have every girl in the palm of his hands but you
- you and kuroo were classmates and have a little rivalry going when it comes to your class standing since the both of you were always neck and neck for that number one spot. but tbh kuroo doesn’t really care if you get that number one spot, he knows you’re smarter than him and he likes that about you, but he’s just in it for the banter and subtle flirting with you.
- “so, kitten, want to bond with me and study for chem lab’s practicals tomorrow?” kuroo asked, smirking as his gaze held you. he was always one for chemistry puns.
- you rolled your eyes, you were not falling for his charms. but you decided to play along. “wanna know my favorite element? it’s nobelium.” then you just walked past him.
- as he watched your retreating form walk past the school gates, he has the biggest smile on his lips and his golden eyes were alight with mirth. two can play at that game.
- the both of you have been playing cat and mouse with one another, kuroo trying to flirt with you while you just quip back, shooting down his advances. this thrills him, enjoying how he can make you smile and watch the pretty blush spread across your cheeks.
“c’mon, (y/n), i bet you’d look cute wearing my jersey while you cheer for me.”
“i guess,” that got him to grin, but it faltered when you uttered your next words. “but kenma’s more of my type.”
- yaku and kenma have caught on with this little thing going on between you and their scheming captain, noticing how he’s always running off the moment that morning practice has ended just to be able to catch you before classes start or how kuroo would always talk about you with such joy and a grin to match.
- one day, during their training after classes, you dropped by the gym to wait for yaku since he asked you to tutor him when he shyly came up to you admitting that he could use some help in physics.
- “oya, oya? here to watch me play, kitten?” kuroo greeted you when they took a break, he was a little sweaty but lord did he look so handsome.
- holding back a smile, you shook your head and gestured to yaku who gave you a wave. “actually, i’m waiting for yaku. we have a study session for physics later.” the number of emotions that passed through kuroo’s face was comical.
- “that pipsqueak? don’t tell me it’s a study date.” behind him, yaku was being held back by yamamoto and lev from kicking kuroo’s ass. jealousy was bubbling in kuroo’s chest as he watched you shrug, nonchalant.
- “kuroo, you have all the girls in nekoma wrapped around your finger, so why is this such a big - ?”
- your words died down when his lips met yours in a soft and languid kiss. “because, kitten, it’s you that i want to take on a date.” kuroo said after he pulled back, admiring how pretty you looked all flustered and red.
- true to his word, kuroo took you on a date after your study session with yaku. he brought you to the ramen shop near campus and even treated you. it was just a night filled with smiles and laughter, and a sweet, and bashful, confession from kuroo.
“i know i’m not exactly the ideal kinda guy that you’d choose to be with, but i promise that i’ll take good care of you and won’t mess this up, (y/n). i really like you and your smart ass, and maybe you’d want to -”
it was your turn to shut him up with a kiss. “yes, kuroo, and i like you too.” he was too stunned to utter words, but the dopey smile and slight blush on his cheeks already spoke for themselves.
- a few days later, kuroo had his arm slung around your shoulder as you laughed at another one of his lame endearing jokes while making your way to the gym for their practice while sporting his nekoma jacket.
“you look good in my jacket, kitten, you should go to our games wearing that.”
you rolled your eyes, smiling at how soft his gaze was whenever he looks at you. “you just like letting people know that i’m with you, tetsu,”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
steve and i were good friends that was until he started dating nancy wheeler. it use to be steve and i doing everything together hanging out at each others houses, long car rides , going to tommy’s parties , and now he forgot all about me. i knew steve had a crush on ever since the beginning... i saw the way he looked at her when she would walk past him , i saw the sparkle in his eyes when he talked about her or whenever she was around. it use to be steve, tommy, carol, and i hanging out at lunch everyday but i was soon replaced when steve asked nancy to go to his house for a hangout with carol and tommy since his parents were out of town. that night he only invited me out of pity and i saw the subtitle flirting between the two and it made me sick. i walked barb that night to the bathroom after she sliced her thumb trying to open a beer can.” i know steve has gauze and bandages somewhere here ill look just keep your hand under the water” i tell her. that night i saw nancy and steve go into his room and i knew what was going to happen and i couldn’t bare being their for it. I said my goodbye to barb wishing her a safe ride home and went on my way. remembering that night i cried my heart out wondering why steve never expressed interest in me.
That was months ago now it’s around october and it was tommy’s halloween bash. i wasn’t going to go but i decided that it was better than sitting at home doing nothing. i knew i was going to see steve their with nancy but i still went even if it was going to hurt seeing my best friend who forgot i even existed. I go dressed up as (whatever you want) and grab my keys getting ready to head off to the party. pulling up to the house i already see drunk teens walking around with their heels in hand or wobbling around. i walk in and head over to the kitchen and try to grab a drink of spiked punch. while pouring i look over and see them... steve and nancy dancing to the beat of the music. a sudden wave of sadness hit and i decided to take a sip of the punch feeling the alcohol run down my throat.
minutes pass and i decided to stay in the kitchen since i felt like it was my best bet to not run into them while on the dance floor. watching the drunken teens flirting and stumbling their words amused on how quickly the punch could get someone drunk.then i saw her , the girl who stole my best friend from me and the boy i loved. nancy walked into the kitchen and grabbed more cups of the spiked punch , one after another i was able to see her get completely shitfaced in the ,mater of only a few minutes. steve came looking for nancy and they got into a fight and i watched intensely. watching as the punch spilled all over her while sweater my mouth opened a jar shocked at how messy everything was getting. watching her and steve storm over to the bathroom. moments later i move to the living room near the front door and suddenly get shouldered by steve who seemed furious and watching jonathan rush to the bathroom. i decided to stay a little longer since the party was still going strong.
a few days later i noticed that steve and nancy were slowly falling out since he wasn’t visiting her at school anymore and her and jonathan seemed to have gotten closer. they seemed to be done and whatever was said in that bathroom must have been bad. i decided to go to steve’s house and check up on him, even if we weren’t friends anymore i didnt want to see him go through something like a breakup alone. knocking on his front door i waited anxiously wondering if i was making the wrong choice. “ hey how can i- oh hi y/n. i didnt uh expect you to be here?” steve says opening the door confused. “ i know steve but i wanted to talk to you” i say as he walks me to his room to talk.” hey i was actually gonna go out and apologize to nancy so if you can come and help me pick something out for her” my heart sank i haven’t talked to him in months and he already brought her up. not a hey how are you or a i miss you nothing its always about her i think to myself. “ oh i actually came to talk to you about something “ “ shoot” he says.” why did you stop talking to me” silence filled the room 1...2...3 minutes passed waiting for him to say something anything” steve you left me for nancy and i dont get what i did for you to sto talking to me. i understand shes your girlfriend but shit i didnt think you’d completely forget about me” i say standing up from his bed looking at him with sadness in my eyes.” i-i thought you didn’t want to hang out with us anymore y/n i didnt notice at first i i’m so sorry” he says guilt in his voice.” i feel like i lost the only person i truly cared about and and you were my friend and now you don’t even look my way steve how could you not notice me not being their... how did you not notice me not their at your basketball games cheering you on or the long car rides we would have just blasting music or going to tommy’s parties and taking turns getting shit faced. tell me steve is it me was i just not who you wanted to be around anymore was she my replacement because i saw it since the beginning” chocking on my words i hold back my tears. i didnt want to cry but eventually it fell and my vision blurred with tears.” y/n i never ment to make you feel that way and i am so sorry i guess i just got so caught up in nancy and i didnt notice you slowly leave and i i just feel terrible “ steve looked at me finally realizing how much he affected me and how much pain he caused me. “steve if you didnt want to be friends anymore you could have just told me you really hurt me” i say to him not daring to look him in the eyes.”i-i” is all he could say” you know what steve a simple hey i dont think we should be friends anymore its not your fault i just think we should go our own ways would have been nice” i say to him walking past him” you know thanks for being my friend for so many years but i cant be friends with someone who doesn’t give two shits about me anymore” i say as i walk out the door and walk back home since it was only a few houses down.steve not moving just in shock realizing that he was the reason why he lost his best friend.
days past and steve found out that nancy liked jonathan and accepted it telling her its okay and like that they broke up. driving around i felt a wave of sadness hit when the song steve and i would listen to while blasting music. tears spill down my face as i drive home. once i make it home i calm myself down and wash up when i suddenly hear the doorbell go off. walking over i open the door seeing the infamous billy hargrove “ hey their doll face i was wondering if you’ve seen my little sister max i know that you tutor some of her friends so i was wondering if you could help me figure out where the byers house is” he says licking his lips seductively “ yeah i could take you their and help you look for your little sister just let me grab my stuff “ i say looking at him.” after getting to the byers house i stay in the car until i see steve walk out confused at why he is their. everything happened so fast punches were thrown and now i’m driving the kids to this random area in hawkins. steve wakes up and sees me driving confused at how he ended up in this situation. getting to the destination steve and i talk while the kids grab everything. in the car they explained everything that happened in thus far with el , will, the upsidown , and etc. “ we broke up” steve says looking at me “ what why are you okay” even if we weren’t close anymore i didnt want him to feel like he had no one. “ she likes jonathan and the night of the party she called our relationship bullshit and i accepted it since i-“ dustin cuts him off by yelling at him how we didnt have enough time.
getting the kids out of the tunnels one by one steve was just about to help me up when he grabbed onto me tightly in a protective matter when the demo dogs ran toward us. watching as they ran past us he told me” i lost you once and i’m not gonna lose you again”getting out of the tunnels i was able to fully process everything that happened and once el closed the gate and steve and i were finally alone he broke the silence “ i love you y/n i never ment to hurt you and i’m sorry.” speechless i sit their “ steve i know you loved nan-“ he cuts me off “ after our first fight i knew she loved jonathan and i guess i couldn’t believe it till she called our relationship bullshit and i love you so much y/n and it was stupid of me to not tell you earlier” “ i love you too steve but what you did hurt me i mean you completely forgot about me” “ i know y/n but could you give me a second chance i’ll make it up to you... could i take you on a date and patch everything up” i really didn’t want to forgive him but i couldn’t just abandon him because i needed him i loved him and he loved me “ i would love that steve “ i say looking at him with love in my eyes and a smile plastered on my face.
swipe left! smau - ♡︎the wedding
suna rintarou x y/n l/n
masterlist
27 // 28 // 29
a/n: super long writing, take a drink and have a seat☺️
(for the people on the taglist, all chapters are already up, use the masterlist or next button to find the new chapters)
“y/n. y/n. Y/N DROP THE BET DROP THE BET YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY ME ILL PAY YOU OH MY,” tendou screeched into his microphone. you just explained how you ended up in this situation where you’re going to a wedding as suna’s plus one to shiratorizawa and everyone, more like just tendou was in a sort of panic state.
“tendou-san, sweetie, CHILL IM JUST ACCOMPANYING HIM,” you screech back. you were currently at a hotel near the wedding venue getting ready for the wedding that was sort of last minute having it just 2 days after suna asked. while getting ready you decided to call the shiratorizawa squad but it went downhill quickly with tendou’s undying dislike for suna.
“accompanying him, what does he also need to be accompanied when he goes to the bathroom?” you could feel the aura of tendou rolling his eyes through the phone. despite his saltiness you couldn’t help but laugh a bit.
“tendou-senpai! why are you freaking out so much? it’s not like y/n-senpai ever falls for anyone, nothing will happen right?” goshiki tried to calm down the fuming red head. tendou wasn’t actually angry he just likes to provoke a bit. you on the other hand, would rather die than admit how you feel for suna.
“pft, yea,” you replied.
“oi y/n you didn’t say anything about you and suna sharing a whole ass couple hotel room,” semi said. you and suna were given a hotel room to share, you were sort of shocked but the suna’s seemed to be richer than expected and the wedding must’ve been a big thing.
“hoi there’s two beds it’s just like a sleepover sem-chan.”
“a wedding, y/n are you wearing a wedding gown?” ushijima asked confused on the situation. “BWHAHAHA SHE WOULD THO,” tendou shouted. “y/n would wear the maid outfit tendou got her, she has no morale,” shirabu coldly said.
“when y/n and i were younger she wore crocs to one of the weddings we went to,” semi brought up. “i did and USHIJIMA-SENPAI, I DONT HAVE ANYTHING ON RIGHT NOW, YOU CAN PICK THE COLOUR OF THE DRESS IM GOING TO WEAR” you excitedly spoke.
“y/n are you naked-“ “hey y/n you said suna would provide a dress, don’t forget that,” semi cuts ushijima off but reminded, what would you do without him. and you were actually wearing a temporary dress just waiting for suna to come back with the dress you’re meant to wear.
“put the circumstances aside, i would say you should wear a green dress, the colour of my crops at home.”
you were holding in your laugh as there was silence as ushijima continued “you can camouflage yourself in the crops.”
“ushijima-senpai, i’ll keep that in mind thank you so much.”
after awhile you heard knocks at the door and the familiar voice of suna spoke “y/n, may i come inside?”
“sHIT I THINK SUNA IS HERE.”
“tell him fuck you,” tendou says. “hey this is a no curse convo, goshiki is here.” you spat back. “what did he even do to you,” shirabu asked.
you ended the call and opened the door for suna.
“what’s up,” you smile.
“hey, sorry did i interrupt something?” suna asks.
“nope, no, this is your hotel room anyways, come inside.”
suna handed you your dress and told once you’re done you’ll go to the wedding venue. you followed through and went into the bathroom for privacy. you were already ready from earlier and just had to slip on the dress. you asked suna if you could go out and he gave you the okay.
there you saw him standing there, his body was muscular from volleyball and that showed through the fitted suit. this was the most tidy you’ve ever seen suna, minus the undone tie around his neck, he looked like this could’ve been his wedding.
“don’t know how to tie a tie now do you?” you softly chuckled. he jokingly pouted, “guessing you do?”
you gave the offer to tie it for him and when that was done you made your way to the venue. the venue was near the hotel so it was a small stroll.
the wedding went by quickly, you sat in the row that suna’s family was on. the wedding itself looking beautiful in the theme of light blue. unfortunately you and suna didn’t pay too much attention to what was happening since the two of you honestly just played imessage games the whole time.
towards the end at the reception, the people started the dancing. first came the hip music for the kids where they all just played around. suna’s sister asked you to join her after her brother told her no. you kindly obliged and joined her and just jumped and had fun, you’ve never felt so young. you didn’t see it but suna was covering his smile from how cute the two of you were.
in the end they had the having the typical slow dance for the people with dates to come. suna’s sister suddenly speaking and saying “nii-chan, y/n! please dance?” rintarou rolled his eyes and shook his head, you on the other hand wasn’t able to say no to her, so you pulled rintarou off his seat and and got on the dance floor.
you both didn’t really know what to do except place your arms around his neck. “you really had to pull me into this?” suna said as he placed his hands on your hips. you looked down and bit your lips trying to hold in your laugh since he didn’t seem to hesitant about this. his relatives started to tease and watch as the two of you sort of just awkwardly swayed together. “suna?” “yea?”
you wanted to have this conversation over the phone, it would’ve been less stressful but you couldn’t wait. “suna what do you think of me?” you asked. “eh? did i insult you or something?”
“what? no i just wondered, are you going to leave me once this is done?”
suna was speechless. he didn’t think you’d ask something like that. especially in the moment. “why would you ask something like that?” suna sounded almost offended.
“you said you needed a date for the wedding and that’s it, exams are coming close so our tutoring sessions would end, you don’t really need me anymore right?”
suna at the moment just felt sort of hurt but he gets the idea of you overthinking what your relationship is with him. he pulled you into a hug and spoke “y/n, you’re not this much of a dumbass, wedding, tutoring session or whatever, even if that wasn’t there i want you in my life. i’m into you, you know that?”
rintarou isn’t good with words. if he had to he could reply to anything with one worded answers but he knows what he wants with you. and for you, his say and do anything.
his words fell lightly into your ears, suddenly it felt like your surroundings disappeared and it was just the two of you. you moved a bit to face rintarou’s face, “you’re into me?” you needed to hear it again.
“so into you.”
you leaned your head into his chest and confessed, “me too.”
suna held your chin and made you face him, “putting all of the dumb bets we made aside, will you be my girlfriend?” you giggled and answered “fuck the bets i’m yours.”
