the absolutely wonderful héctor bellerín (former barça baby! and who was one of the only male footballers to come out in support of jenni and the girls) said this about equal pay and women's football:
a: i get asked a lot about women's football. and what i know, what i want and what i think is fair is that we all earn the same, that we are all equal professionals, that we have the same rights and that there is equality. to the question, how do we do that? that is something i still don't know. i do know that we, men's football, have to be the first to help, because we have the platform, we have the resources. we have walked that path because before they could not walk it, right? so i think it starts with us, because society is already doing that, that change, that work, right? society already supports it almost the same way it supports ours. look at the world cup final. and i think we have a responsibility to take. a responsibility, not only footballers, players, but clubs, entities, leagues.
q: you have a strong power.
a: we have a very strong power.
q: a huge microphone.
a: but it is used for the things that each one is interested in, because people think that women's football being bigger means that they are going to take a piece of the cake away from us, that they are going to eat it.
q: is that what they think?
a: i think so, and it's the opposite. i think it's better for everybody, you know?
q: it's going to grow.
a: football in general is going to grow, right? so i think there is that fear, that fear of losing privileges, right?
