My Top TV Show Female Characters

I made a male version of this that some people actually read (thanks!!) So I thought it's time to make my female version! I'm sure there's more that I adore, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind. *In no particular order*

Haley James Scott (One Tree Hill)

Bethany Joy Lenz was one of the best actors on this show, and she brought so much to this character that I'm sure was only initially supposed to be your typical best friend to the main character. Haley James Scott was more than that. She is a wonderful wife (Naley forever, my #1 otp and simply iconic) and mother. Not only that, but she's talented and funny af. Her humor is so underrated, especially during her pregnancies, lol. Not only that but never mess with her family cause she will quite literally fuck you up (*cough* see Rachel Gatina) 💀

Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)

1/2 the reason why I even bothered with Gossip Girl to begin with. Takeaway that God awful relationship with the wannabe Batman voiced man, she is a literal queen that deserved better!! Leighton Meester's acting so underrated it annoys me that her career didn't skyrocket after this (there's still time though 🙏). Blair had her flaws, but was shown to be quite the good person despite everything. She is not only intelligent, but she's witty af and I love every bit of her sass. If only she had ended up with someone on her level mentally and spiritually.

Manny Santos (Degrassi TNG)

A whole ass trendsetting queen!!! Manuela Santos walked so that so many other bad ass tv women could run. The very first time I watched this show I instantly fell in love with her. She was honestly a good ass friend that dealt with so much shit that she didn't deserve. The abortion storyline was simply great because I'm almost positive girls watching the show felt safe knowing they had options when it comes to unplanned pregnancies. Her style? Immaculate. Her ability to change a once bad boy to an actual good guy? Iconic. Love her forever.

Stephanie Tanner (Full House)

This show was the very first sitcom I fell in love with as a little girl. I remember loving Stephanie. To the point where I wanted to join dance classes to be like her lol. I always was more invested in her storylines and I thought she was extremely relatable. Her catchphrases >>>> and the episode where she drove the car into the kitchen? Forever iconic. I haven't seen enough of Fuller House to give an opinion, but I'm sure she was just as iconic on there.

Jen Lindley (Dawsons Creek)

My sweet precious muffin. My cinnamon apple. Jen brought so much to this show. An iconic friendship (her and Jack 😭😍), amazing character development, and a lovable personality. I truly love her so much and I cannot believe the way her story ended. She deserved so much more. She was a beautiful person inside and out and Michelle Williams did such an amazing job. Especially when she was the youngest amongst the cast.

Lydia Martin (Teen Wolf)

My favorite banshee ❤ I seem to love characters with amazing character developments because here's yet another character that had amazing development. Lydia literally went from typical mean girl to an actual badass superhero. She was so real and so complicated (in a good way). I loved the depth to her character and forever happy they didn't keep her as the mean girl with no personality. Lydia Martin is a powerful woman. Also, her and Stiles forever have my heart.

Lois Lane (Smallville)

I love this show and the minute she came on I personally believe the show got better. Lois and Clark are legendary especially on Smallville. I know a lot of people preferred Lana and at first I was all Lana/Clark. But once Lois came on, I was like Lana who? Lois was more interesting and had better chemistry with Clark imo. I think my love for this character stems mainly from Erica Durance. She brought such a light and lovable vibe to this Lois.

April Kepner (Grey's Anatomy)

A strong ass woman. She faced so much hardship, but never ever gave up. Like the amount of shit this woman had to deal with?? It's always the characters that I love that have to deal with a lot and quite often never get the happiness they deserve. I'm so happy they brought her back and gave her a better and more proper ending with Jackson aka who she deserved to be endgame with. April could be quite neurotic to the point where it got annoying. But I still loved her and her flaws. She was extremely relatable. Also let's take a second to recognize how amazing Sarah Drew is.....the shooting episode and scene with the shooter??? ICONIC.

Tia and Tamera (Sister Sister)

Another sitcom I absolutely adore. Tia and Tamera are forever iconic queens in the show and in real life. I'll admit, Tia was favorite as a kid. I resonated with her more, but during my last rewatch as an adult I enjoyed the two of them and now I can't really choose a favorite. These two are my childhood ❤

Q and A with Kotono Mitsuishi

Seeing Kotono Mitsuishi was cool! She seems really nice! I went to two panels and got to ask two questions. I got my Sailor Moon DVD booklet signed and my friend Bethany was nice enough to get the Juri part of my Utena booklet signed! 

She said Sailor Moon’s transfomation and intro speech (twice)! Also Moon Healing Escalation, she did her Chibi Chibi voice too. She even did growling as Tae from Zombieland Saga!

AND she took a selfie with the audience, I’ll have to see if I can track it down.

Here’s some stuff she said:

-She was asked about working with a director as famously eccentric as Anno for Eva. She talked about him not eating meat (which I guess is considered more eccentric in Japan) and said he used to not wear socks and would be barefoot at work. But now he wears a suit and everything because he has a wife and can’t embarrass her.

-To follow up that, I asked what it was like to work with Ikuhara, who’s also famously eccentric. She said she doesn’t think he’s eccentric, surprisingly, but she does think he’s very handsome, so like. Ikuhara passing the Kotono Mitsuishi hotness test, yo. She said that though it would embarrass him for her to say this, but during Sailor Moon he was often depressed about not being popular with girls, but she feels this has changed now.

--I asked if she was close with and had any stories about the other voice actresses, and she said she’s close with Michie Tomizawa (Rei) and they still see each other. She said she and the other actresses from Crystal often go for Korean BBQ after work.

-She said the r movie was one of her favorite Sailor Moon things, and definitely her favorite Sailor Moon movie and told the dude doing the Crystal SuperS movie that, and he decided he had to do better (dream big I guess)

-Kotono says in Japan the manga is more poplar than the 90s anime, which is a bit surprising considering how shoddily and inconsistently Crystal’s been treated.

-She said she’s still filled with regret over missing D-point and those episodes were painful to watch because of that, though she watched them so she could understand where Usagi was at emotionally at the beginning of R. She mentioned that doing that cassette where she got to act out those scenes eased her regret. 

-She told the story of how when everyone died at D point, many Japanese school girls could not eat because they were so shocked and upset. She says it made the news!

-She seemed to have a hard time understanding the name pronunciation/name when asked if she had anything to say about Shiho Niiyama, the late voice actress for Seiya, but got extremely choked up and tearful when she realized who was being asked about, saying she misses her.

-She said when she was rehired for Crystal while the others were not, she said she was told she needed to carry on the “gene” of Sailor Moon to the next generation.

-Her fave character songs are “I am Sailor Moon” and “Moon Revenge”.

-Her favorite scene for Usagi is ep 124 when she tries to transform to help Saturn despite not being able to and her feelings get through.

More on her and Anno:

-She also said she first met Anno when he came to help out with Neptune’s henshin sequence.

-She said the part of the Eva opening with Misato holding her leg and sitting down is based off a time when she was very tired and sitting like that- Anno was inspired and put that in the opening. She was a little embarrassed that Anno saw her inner vulnerability so clearly.

-She joked that since she’s gotten older since the first time she played Misato, it made her very angry when Anno said she was being “too mature” and needed to be “more innocent” as Misato during the reboot movie

More tidbits:

She was EXTREMELY surprised how many voice actresses the original English dub had for Sailor Moon, and also was very shocked vas didn’t do their character’s songs as often in America. She said she only listened to the English dub once a long time ago when it first came out, and says as long as the actress has “the feeling” of Sailor Moon, that’s all that matters.

-When asked what she would say to anyone who wanted to grow up to be a  magical girl, she said ’if you believe you can become a magical girl.”

-She was asked if she felt Sailor Moon had done good things for “women/the image (?) of women” in Japan, and said she felt Sailor Moon sent a good message and was happy when she saw so many little girls playing Sailor Moon and rushing to get home to watch it.

-She said whenever she dubbed Meredith on Grey’s Anatomy (WHICH APPARENTLY SHE DOES THAT) she would mumble into her coffee cup to simulate a surgical mask, and she did put sticklike food in her mouth for that scene with Tae in Zombieland Saga.

aaron: Already mentioned this in the last survey, but he’s a part of my high school friend group. He was one of my first guy friends ever and he was very nice to me from the very beginning; always made sure I felt like I belonged in a crowd. Also studies in UP and I think he is taking up sports science because he wants to go on to med school. abby/abbey: This is my mom’s name. She goes by the first spelling. I know an Abby from high school; she studies in La Salle now. adam: I don’t know him personally but there used to be a dude from WhatCulture Wrestling (a popular YouTube channel) named Adam – he was my favorite to watch until he got caught in a major fuck-up and was booted from the group. adel adrienne ajee

ajla alan: I have an uncle named Allan. He was part of my dad’s friend group in college; they met each other in their org. He was in every birthday party when I was a kid, but I don’t see him anymore now because his family already migrated somewhere else. alex: Broad comm student who plays the guitar and sings well; I haven’t talked to her. I also knew an Alex from 6th grade and she was just...not a very bright student. She had to move because I don’t think her grades reached the standard in my school, and now I think she lives in California. If not there, then somewhere else in the States. Alex is a fairly common name here, though, and I know I’ve missed out on a bunch of other Alexes.

alexa: Again, another girl from high school. Was a cool girl and a party girl from the very start. Like I said in my past survey, she lives in Australia now. alexis alexzandria alicia: My friend Alliyah’s boss, who she has a huge crush on, is named Alicia but she goes by Alice. alisa allie/ally: Gossiping fake loser from our rival journ org who does nothing but spread black propaganda about our org to keep people from joining ours – when she talks to us, though, she’s super nice. I’m so fucking happy she’s graduating because she has such a toxic personality :(  allison: Former prof in Comm 100. Wasn’t very good but I had a crush on her from the very first lecture. She had a serious car accident in the middle of the sem and had to wear like a nose brace thing for the rest of the sem. alycea/alycia alyssa: I rode the school bus with a girl named Alyssa but I was much closer to her older sister Alex. There’s also an Alyssa from broad comm and I was classmates with her in my political science, history, and broad comm classes for this semester. She’s the niiiiiiiicest girl and would always help me out if I have missing notes or whatever. amanda: Girl from my org who’s taking up engineering. I was her VP last semester, but she had personal problems and so she wasn’t able to work much under me. Whenever she did, though, she was always reliable. Quiet girl, a little socially awkward. amari amber andrew: I first met him at a rally/protest I attended in 2017. Hit it off well right from the start because I saw that he was wearing a wrestling shirt, so we bonded over WWE that day. He plays the guitar and has released his own EP, is a junior DJ at one of the hip radio stations in Manila, and has done his fair share of hosting gigs. He used to take up engineering but shifted to journalism as he likes it better. Is very adventurous and amiable but tends to get too friendly; some might find it tiring but I honestly think it’s just his personality. He was my groupmate in communication research and I thought he was decent. angela: My best friend’s name is Angela. We first met each other in Grade 1 when we were 7, and we became friends after I stabbed her palm with a newly-sharpened pencil. She still has the pencil mark today. anna: Anna is a popular secondary name in the Philippines, but no one actually uses it as their main name. anne: Same with Anne. annie: My grandma’s best friend who used to come over the house every Sunday. Like I said in the past survey, I’m honestly not sure if she’s still alive lol. She was already pretty old when I was still very young. anthony aasad ashley: I *think* I have a distant cousin named Ashley that I first met at a family reunion last year. But let’s be real, Filipino families are huge and I don’t even know if I remember her name correctly, if she’s even an Ashley. aubri: One of my closest friends in high school was Aubrey. We were very, very close in junior year until she dropped a bomb on me that her family was migrating to California by the time we start senior year. We don’t talk anymore because of the distance and the timezones, but I’ll always be there for her no matter what. Incredibly talented dancer and figure skater. She’s in UCLA right now and as far as I know she is killing it over there. austin autumn: I know an Autumn from my wrestling fandom days. I think she was a redhead, but I don’t remember anything else. barbara becca: A girl from broad comm. She was one of the principal actors in one of the productions we did for BC and she has a really cute laugh. Super elegant; she reminded me a little bit of Audrey Hepburn because she was really graceful. She’s the older sister of my orgmate Rita, who’s from psych. ben beth bethany betty: I have a friend-ish named Bettina. Betty’s kind of like a goofy nickname; she actually doesn’t use it but I think it still counts. I’ve known her since first grade; she peed her skirt in our first day of Grade 1 and I remember her crying a lot. She had a wild TV show phase starting from Grade 5 and she was into Nicole Kidman, Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Stana Katic, Kate Walsh, etc etc etc and a bunch of shows like Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, Castle, Suits etc etc etc. She was super shy, very awkward in person so I’m glad her love of TV shows and actresses sprung her into life for the most part. She’s in UP Manila and I think too busy to get into fandoms now. bijan bobby bram brandon brandy breanna/brianna: Brianna is my friend Pat’s middle name. I honestly used to be so envious of this name of hers because I thought it sounded really nice, but now I think it kinda sounds like a bratty name hahaha. brendan brian: I have an uncle named Bryan, but we aren’t related. He’s my mom’s cousin’s husband. He’s VERY shy and likes to keep to himself or his kids at family gatherings but turns really cool when he’s had a little to drink. brittany/brittney/brittni brock brooke bruce buck cameron camille: Nice girl from my childhood school bus. There’s an unofficial norm in private schools in that when you’re older, you get to be mean to the younger kids. Not her. She was always nice and include us second graders in her antics in the bus, even though she was several years older. I was bummed when I found out they moved to the States. candy carina: I used to ride the school bus with a Carina but she was much younger. I was already in high school when she was in kindergarten. She’s the younger sister of Carissa, who I always found to be pretty weird. Anyway, these girls were clearly rich and pampered; they had a nanny ride with us in the bus. carly: I had an Internet friend named Carley; she was my first online best friend. We met here on Tumblr in like 2012 and got close because we were both huge fans of Stephanie McMahon at the time haha. We would video-call EVERY afternoon when I would come home from school while she would get ready for school (she’s from Pennsylvania). Eventually she’d disappear off the face of the earth and stopped talking to me but resurfaced a few months later. She’d continue to do this like 10 other times until I got tired of getting my hopes up of having her back. She’s tried reconnecting with me again on DMs but I just ignored it cos I knew there was a good chance she’d just cut off our communication again. We’re still Facebook friends and she’d pop up on my news feed from time to time, but that’s it. carol: I have a great-aunt named Carol. But my grandma has so many sisters that I honestly do not remember which one she is. carrie cassandra: I had a batchmate named Kassandra, who went by Kasey. Really bright, sweet, intelligent girl. She moved to Singapore in 7th grade. She was very, very simple and very kind to everyone and you wouldn’t be able to tell that she’s crazy rich. Her dad’s a top exec for a famous food and drink company and she lives in the same village I do–their house is guarded 24/7. cassidy chantel charlotta chelsie: Chelsea’s part of our high school friend group and is also crazy rich. We always hung out at her place because her house is huge. She’s very maarte, which I cannot really translate to English...the closest term is probably high maintenance hahaha; but she’s very sweet and generous and kind too. cheryl chris: One of Gabie’s best friend is a Kris. Other than liking outdoorsy stuff like going to the beach and hiking which is all I know about her, I think she’s also half-American. christopher: I have an uncle with this name but like I said his nickname is Perry. He works abroad like my dad (his brother-in-law) and my dad’s sister (his sister-in-law). cienna clare: Guidance counselor for several grade school levels. Understandably, she is very maternal. I once had a nasty fight with another girl and we had to be sent to her office. clarissa: Went to school with a Clarisa. We first met in Grade 4 because she rode my school bus, and instantly clicked. She was very nice, very sweet; she was simple to the point that, like Kasey, you’d have no clue how rich she was. She lives in a huge mansion now but she lived in a huge house before that as well, it’s crazy. Really, really sweet and she would give the best hugs. I played table tennis a lot with her in high school too. She studies in Miriam now but I’m not so sure about her course. claudia: Already said a lot about her in the last survey. She still goes to a bunch of parties but she is so much nicer now than she was when we were younger. cody cole collin corey corinne: One of my former teachers named her daughter Corinne. I think she’s 8 this year. courtney crissy: Chrissy was one of my very best friends in preschool and grade school. She looked Chinese even though she had a Filipino-sounding surname, and I was never sure if she had Chinese blood or not. She was boyish so she was very rowdy, liked to play rough, and punched other girls if she got pissed; but other than that she was very quiet and shy. She was constantly on the basketball team too. Eventually her family moved to Canada. crystal dallas dan danielle danika: An orgmate that worked under my committee two semesters ago. She’s from business ad and was juggling another org so she wasn’t very active at all to begin with. Her performance just plummeted every month and she ended up ghosting my org last semester–never replied to anyone when we tried to check up on her. I was very mad at her until she restarted contact with us recently and explained how tumultuous stuff suddenly got in her personal life and mental health that she had to take care of herself for a while, which we all understood immediately. She’s coming back to the org this year and we’re more than ready to welcome her. She’s very charming, goofy, and kind. She has a very life-of-the-party personality haha. danny: I have a friend-ish named Dani that I met through Angela. We all sat at the same table during the senior ball at Ateneo in 2016 so we got to talk then. She played volleyball in high school and she studies in San Beda now. She wants to take up law school so I think her course is in political science.  darious david: Pat’s boyfriend from Serbia and Patrice’s boyfriend from economics HAHAHAHA. Did Jo Wilson rid herself of her abusive and estranged husband once and for all?

During the Grey’s Anatomy winter premiere, Jo (Camilla Luddington) came face to face with Paul (Matthew Morrison), who had ventured to the hospital to get the divorce papers signed so he could get remarried. Almost immediately, Paul turned on his charm, effectively manipulating those around him and casting doubt on Jo’s alleged abuse.

But Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) saw through his lies, helping Jo get the papers signed and even enlisting Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) to distract Paul so Jo could secretly lend assistance to Paul’s new fiancée (Bethany Joy Lenz). Alas, Paul uncovered the ruse, all but threatening that he’d be keeping tabs on Jo from now on. However, by hour’s end, Paul turned back up in the hospital as a patient, the victim of a hit-and-run. Naturally, Meredith assumes Jo and Alex (Justin Chambers) are to blame, especially after Jo basically said she wanted him dead. Did Alex and Jo cause Paul’s accident?

“The only thing I can say really is there are a lot of twists and turns to this story,” Luddington tells EW. “You will see them play out in the next episode. When you think you know what’s happened, it turns everything on its head, so just keep watching.”

Suffice it to say, however this plays out, Jo and Alex’s relationship will be forever changed by these events. “You see that they’re in this together,” Luddington says. “Whatever happens, they are ride-or-die at this point.”

As fellow cast member Kevin McKidd previously teased to EW, the Paul storyline will be resolved relatively quickly — that now makes a lot more sense, given the circumstances — which may finally provide a sense of closure for Jo.

“If she is to get closure, feeling like someone no longer has power over you is a huge thing,” Luddington says. “Even being able to tell people, because obviously it all comes out to everybody in the hospital — it has to be revealed who he is — so I think there’s freedom in being able to tell people the truth. So I hope for her, moving forward, there’s a weight lifted off her and that she can proceed in her future in a way that she hasn’t been able to before, without fear and without having to feel like she has to look over her shoulder and wonder who’s behind her. For Jo, I hope that there’s peace in her future, but you’ll have to wait and see.”

5 Ways One Tree Hill Has Aged Poorly (& 5 Ways It’s Timeless)

It's always interesting to watch a TV show a decade or so later and wonder if it feels the same. In the case of One Tree Hill, which aired for nine seasons between 2003 and 2012, the teen drama is still considered a classic today. Fans will always want to watch Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) learn that he has a brother, Nathan (James Lafferty), and the relationships are always going to keep new and old viewers entertained.

10 Aged Poorly: Nanny Carrie

When people think about One Tree Hill, they remember one of the wildest storylines: the one featuring Jamie's crazy nanny. Carrie (Torrey DeVitto) starts taking care of Jamie (Jackson Brundage) in the fifth season, but while she seems all sweet and innocent at first, she reveals her true self in the episode "Hundred."

This is the episode that people recall the most since it's when Carrie decides it's a good idea to kidnap Jamie. Of all the storylines on this show, this one has definitely aged poorly. It was an out-there idea at the time and still feels that way today. It seems like Haley James (Bethany Joy Lenz) and Nathan would have noticed that their nanny couldn't be trusted.

9 Timeless: The Friendships

One thing about One Tree Hill that is timeless is the friendships that all of the characters share. From Lucas and Haley to Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton) and Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush), the gang has some tight connections and it seems that these will never be broken.

It was always fun to watch Lucas and Nathan on the River Court, and to watch Peyton and Brooke talk about dating and life. A teen drama really won't work without good friendships, so thankfully, this one has a lot.

8 Aged Poorly: Peyton's Stalking Storyline

It's possible that many One Tree Hill fans didn't really like or get this particular storyline when it aired, and it doesn't seem like it's aged very well in the years that have passed.

On a show like this one, it wouldn't be enough for a character to have a family member that they didn't know about. Instead of having Peyton's half-brother Derek show up on her doorstep for a sweet family reunion, a character named Ian Banks (Matt Barr) makes her think that he's Derek. There are some creepy online messages and lots of bad vibes. This storyline felt like a big mistake because it just made Peyton seem like an even sadder, more alone character. The girl had already had so much pain in her life, why make things even crazier?

7 Timeless: The Basketball Scenes

Friday Night Lights is known for depicting high school football in a really inspiring and moving way, and OTH should get credit for the way that it shows high school basketball.

Whether Lucas and Nathan are playing a game at the school or Lucas is with his pals at the River Court, it's always solid. And the series finale features an older Jamie playing basketball, which was enough to make fans tear up.

6 Aged Poorly: Peyton's Dating Life

Peyton's dating life has definitely aged poorly. It's super unrealistic for her to date the people that she does. First of all, she goes out with Pete Wentz (yes, Pete Wentz from the band Fall Out Boy) in the third season. Second of all, another one of her love interests is Jake Jagielski (Bryan Greenberg).

Jake has a daughter named Jenny, but instead of a complex and fascinating portrayal of what it would be like to date someone with a kid when you're basically a kid yourself, this is another melodramatic relationship on a teen drama.

5 Timeless: Lucas And Peyton's Epic Romance

In the pilot, Peyton says, "First of all, you don't know me. Second of all, you don't know me." This is perhaps her most well-known quote since it sums up everything about this character: she's tough, she's not afraid to speak her mind, and she has a wall up against the rest of the world.

Well, except for Lucas. These two characters have an epic romance, and this is one aspect of the show that is timeless. While it didn't always look like they would get a real goodbye, they get married, have a baby, and ride off together.

4 Aged Poorly: The Ghosts

Can a teen drama feature ghosts and still be good? It's a fair question... and since OTH isn't actually a supernatural series, it does seem kind of weird that it leans on ghosts so heavily.

Because the show can seem so corny at times, even featuring the ghost of Keith, a sweet and beloved character who is shot and killed by his brother (and Lucas and Nathan's dad) Dan, seemed like overkill. And Clay (Robert Buckley) and Haley's sister Quinn (Shantel VanSanten) are actually ghosts in one episode at the beginning of season eight.

3 Timeless: The Characters' Dreams

OTH has a reputation for being kind of corny sometimes (okay, that might be an understatement). And that's exactly why people love it so much. It can be nice to just embrace a cheesy, entertaining show sometimes.

Another thing about this show that will always be timeless? That would be the dreams that the main characters have. 2 Aged Poorly: Nathan And Haley's Marriage And Pregnancy

In real life, it would be a pretty big deal if a couple got married and had a baby in high school. After all, MTV has many reality series about teen pregnancy, such as 16 And Pregnant and Teen Mom, and it doesn't look very easy at all.

But on OTH, Nathan and Haley do just that: tie the knot and also have a baby before high school is over. This is another part of One Tree Hill that has aged poorly. It's totally unrealistic and hard to buy, and both Nathan and Haley act like it's great and won't be hard at all. No one really seems to think that much about it.

1 Timeless: The Four-Year Jump

The final aspect of One Tree Hill that is timeless is the four-year jump between the fourth and fifth seasons. There are countless TV shows that have featured this storytelling device, including Pretty Little Liars, but it's fair to say that OTH did it really well.

Since the characters already seemed so, well, old, when they were in high school, it wasn't a massive stretch to believe that they were now young adults in their 20s. It was fun to watch where they ended up, and in some ways, the later seasons are more believable since the gang is at least acting their age.
