She clung to the wall, but it was purpose she grasped at long last, and that carried her upwards. She was not a lynx or a spider or even the Wraith. She was Inej Ghafa, and her future was waiting above.

There's literally sooo many that I love, but this one hit really hard.

Djerholm: what pair of characters would you kill to see interact with each other?

Zoya and Inej once Inej gains her reputation as Captain Ghafa. I think officially they would talk about her travels and make deals to bring slavers down, but on a more personal level, they would bond over their Suli heritage (which I would love to see Zoya talk more about). Obviously a fight scene with them together would be awesome too.

Bonus points if Nikolai is freaking out in a corner fangirling over Captain Ghafa.

Share ten different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media, in no particular order, then tag/send to ten people (anon or not). It’s been really hard choosing only one character from each fandom and my choice probably has a lot to do with I’ve watched recently but here it goes: Leo Fitz (Agents of SHIELD) Well, most people who follow me here probably know that by now but he’s probably my favorite fictional character ever. Obviously it has a lot to do with how good Iain is at being him but I also love how nuanced and real the character feels despite being a rather exceptional person. And I couldn’t be happier that was given a happy ending :) Mercredi Addams (The Addams Family Movies) I just love this version of the character so much! She has the best lines and the best comebacks and I use some of her phrases on a daily basis so, obviously, she had to be here!

Dana Scully (The X-Files) The X-Files was my first ever fandom and even though it’s hard to choose between Mulder and Scully, Scully has always been such an incredible role model! I haven’t been a fan (to say the least) of the last few seasons of the show but Gillian has never stopped being incredible in her portrayal of the character. Mike Cooper (BBC Ghosts) I like every character in this show and I could have chosen just about anyone to put on this list but I feel like Mike is such an underrated character. He can be so dumb but he’s sooo sweet and funny and a wonderful husband. And he can be so surprising sometimes too.

Dina Fox (Superstore)

Been rewatching that show lately and even though, again, I love pretty much everyone in it, I just love Dina. I wish I had 10 percent of her confidence but I love that as seasons go, we get to see a more sensitive nuanced side of the character. Plus, good vegan representation that’s not a total cliché for once! 

Winston Bishop (New Girl)

I love how relatively more “normal” he is than the others at the beginning of the show and how increasingly crazy he gets by the end. And he’s overall such a sweet and endearing character too. Quite underrated compared to the others. Ted Lasso (Ted Lasso)

Again could have been pretty much any character in the show but he’s just a very likable character and the way they reveal the reasons of why he is like he is is just brilliant. And Jason Sudeikis is incredible.  Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) Buffy remains one of my fav series ever. I love lots of the characters but I remember having such a crush on Spike. I like the contradiction of him being romantic and evil and the evolution of his character is really well done. And I suppose I always have a thing for the snarky British character! Granny Weatherwax (The Discworld Series)

I just love a confident, grumpy character! I mean all the witches are my fav characters from The Discworld but Granny is an icon! I love that she makes a point of saying being a witch is not about showy magic while being in fact incredibly powerul! 

The Fool (The Farseer Trilogy and other series from Robin Hobb)

He’s just such a mysterious, interesting character and one of favorite book characters ever. He’s a very smart representation of a non-binary person and his friendship with Fitz is the most beautiful relationship in all of Robin Hobb’s books. Chapter 9 Snippet:

Enoch had planned to leave on a final, quick supply run two weeks before Alya’s due date, but then she’d been born two and a half weeks early. While they weren’t running dangerously low on supplies, they were definitely running low on variety.

Fitz hurried to the cargo bay, swiping a hand across his stinging eyes. He and Enoch made quick work of putting away the groceries, and he was assembling some cheese toasties for himself and Jemma when Enoch pulled what looked like a rolled-up piece of olive green cloth from one of the bags. “I nearly forgot. When I picked up the cables for the time drive, my contacts gave me this to give to my employees to congratulate them on the birth of their child.” He tilted his head. “Obviously they meant you and Jemma Simmons.”

“Obviously.” Fitz took the green cloth, which turned out to be a pair of baby pajamas patterned with little gray and white birds. Turning it over in his hands, he felt oddly unsettled by the otherwise innocuous and very cute pajamas. While Enoch could buy most of their supplies at stores and outposts on various planets, some of the things they needed—like cables compatible with a time-traveling device—were harder to find. So he’d had to find contacts who could find those things for him.

“Do you ever think about it?”

The room is dark and cold, glittering with the reflection of billions of stars and empty nothingness.

“How there’s at least one timeline where we . . . don’t meet? And you die?”

His breaths are slow and deep, and his eyelids flutter open. “I try not to,” he almost whispers, unwilling to pierce the tranquility.

“Me too,” she says with a long sigh and only clenches her fist harder.

Outside the metal hull of the ship, empty space presses in on them as if it were trying to dissolve them. Intruders.

.

“I wish I could tell them about this.”

His eyes are fixed on the nebula. The first one they’ve seen. It’s blue and yellow and pure, a swirling beauty in the dull void of space. It’s ethereal.

She looks up at his face, full of wonder and sadness.

“We never even had an idea . . .” he sweeps a hand out in front of him, toward the nebula, “these could exist.”

“There’s a lot you didn’t know.” She hopes her words are reassuring. Comforting, maybe.

It seems to work. He nods, still deep in thought. He’s good at acclimating to modern times. But he left part of him in the 50s. And that part is filled with regret. Even if he hides it well.

They never planned to share a bed on the ship. But it happens anyway.

She can’t sleep. He hates the cold. They’re drawn together like two stars, orbiting closer and closer until they collide in a shower of beauty and fire.

They find they can’t be long apart from the other.

He’s engrossed in a book. She’s busy teaching the rookies. Always within eyesight.

She’s doing inventory. He cleans his handguns. Just across the room.

They share touches, just barely whispers.

A thumb across his shoulder blade in passing. A quick squeeze of their fingers together.

Outside, in the endless vacuum of space, the stars wink their approval.

.

Their ship touches down on the tarmac, and she should be relieved. But the ship was their haven. She’s going to miss it.

“We should go back,” she says.

They haven’t been on earth for more than five minutes.

Instead of returning to space, they get in a car and drive. No destination. No plans.

Just the two of them.

She doesn’t want this feeling to end.

“I’m glad,” he says, “that we never meet in that one timeline.” His hands grip the steering wheel a little too tight, and his eyes blink a little too hard. He clenches his jaw.

The wind picks up pieces of her hair and sends them twirling around. It’s nice to feel wind again.

He explains. “It’s harder to lose something than to never have it in the first place.”

Above them, the stars say their hellos. And their goodbyes.

The heavy, tugging feeling in her chest grounds her.

He’s right.
