"GET ME A BAMBALANCE"

The district I was the captain of had some fairly active residents. We had everything from structure fires to shootings and stabbings. The Med unit (ambulance) and Engine in the district were fairly busy. I was assigned to the Truck and although we normally went on car accidents and structure fires, we occasionally ran medical calls when the Engine and Med Unit were out. On one Summer Sunday evening after a particularly hot 2 weeks prior the city seemed to be falling apart. The Engine and Med unit were out on a stabbing and the Truck got a call to respond with a Med unit from a different station to a call in our district. The call was for a motor vehicle accident turned disturbance. We arrived on scene and immediately found ourselves in the middle of it. There were frantic people everywhere but no evidence of an accident. The party in question was intoxicated and she was stating that a man on scene and hit her car, jumped on her car, then attacked her. Police had yet to arrive on scene so the suspect quickly walked into the apartment building where he began to yell out the window at the patient. I began to look around to make sure the scene was not deteriorating. I asked the woman if the suspect had access to any weapons.. "Ma'am does he have access to any weapons in there?" I asked. She turned to me and replied "Look at that Dave Chappell looking mother fucker! That N!$$#% is too dumb to have weapons, get me a bambalance, my weave hurt!"
