Tips On Choosing the Best Water Heater According To Your Requirement
Not everyone likes cold showers throughout the year in the tropical climate of Singapore. While the temperatures here seldom go very low in winter, the cold is enough to make you uncomfortable. This is the reason that a water heater’s best brand is necessary for every household.
Tumblr media
Let us see how to choose the best water heater for your home
Space
The first consideration while choosing a good water heater is the space you must install it. Storage water heaters are bulkier compared to instant ones, hence if you have less space, the latter option is better. If you are moving into a new home then it is possible that the interior designer has already allocated space for a heater.
Storage capacity
This is another crucial factor in deciding upon a water heater for your home. Of course, storage water heaters can store a good amount of water, but if you have a large family then it may be a better idea to opt for an instant water heater. This is because a storage water heater may not be able to store enough hot water to provide for your entire family.
Number of outlets
Owners of smaller homes should opt for an instant water heater, but the limitation with these is that they can be connected only to one water outlet. Hence, if you need hot water at different outlets then buying a number of instant heaters may not be such a good idea. In this situation, it is best to opt for a storage water heater that can be connected to multiple outlets.
Budget
Your budget is the last but most important consideration because if you want to buy the water heater’s best brand then you may have to set aside a significant amount of money.
Hence, in order to make your winters comfortable, one option is to install a good water heater and enjoy hot showers.

I was thinking about Mirage and Noah Diaz and several things stood out to me:
First, the temperature difference. We must feel so cold to a Cybertronian. I don't know how hot an autobot runs, but the engine for a Porsche 911 (Mirage's alt mode in Rise of the Beasts) runs between 185-230°F. For comparison, the core temperature of a human is 96-100°F.
It might not be noticable if Mirage is touching Noah with an extremity, like a hand, which is going to run cooler than his core. Chest to chest, however, Mirage is probably going to think that Noah is dying or that humans are cold-blooded. Or maybe we're cold because we are so small (it is not that because even the core temperature of a blue whale is 98-99°F).
So now we have Mirage blasting his heater because no way is he leaving his boy cold.
The second thing that gets me is that Mirage is about 15 feet tall and 3,000 to 3,800 pounds heavy at LEAST (again, based off a Porsche 911). He is also made of metal and synthetic materials. This makes him 2.6 times Noah's height and (approximating Noah weighs 200 pounds) 14 times his weight (at least).
Think of it like the world's strongest 5'9" man weighing 200 pounds with metal skin seeing a 2'2", 14-pound toddler for the first time and trying to pick them up.
Whenever Mirage touches Noah, it's gently. He's slow and he's careful. He CAN touch Noah softly, but it takes concentration. Noah is just so small and fragile and cold compared to him, a delicate bag of mineral water that can bruise and burst if Mirage holds him too tightly.
(NSFW under cut, except I wrote this while at work)
It's for the best, when it comes to interfacing- or sex, as the humans call it? - that he let Noah take the lead. It's for the best that he just sit up against a wall and turn up his sensitivity (so easy to be rough with Noah, but his main man couldn't hurt him if he TRIED, but Mirage wants to feel him so bad) so that he can experience everything Noah does.
Sometimes, Noah spikes him - fucks him? - and it's nice. It's not a lot, especially compared to the mechs Mirage has banged in the past, but it's Noah and that makes it good enough to do more than once.
But sometimes Noah gets on top and starts sitting down on Mirage's spike and that is TORTURE. Mirage can't move unless he wants to tear Noah open (it would be terrifyingly easy), but he can't NOT move. He ends up shaking like he's going 200 mph on bald tires, like speed is just vibrating through him, and he's making these embarrassing noises - whines and car beeps and honks. His car alarm goes off at one point and Noah just LAUGHS at him and he's barely taken half of Mirage's spike. Mirage can't survive this. Noah is just too tight, too soft. He's warmer here, inside, than almost anywhere else (except maybe his mouth, but he can't stretch his mouth open the same way he can stretch this hole), but still cool around Mirage's spike. It's erotic. He wants to warm Noah up so bad.
He wants to make Noah run HOT, but he has to keep his hands to himself, so he just begs for Noah to take it all, for Noah to move faster, for Noah to touch him, bang him, fuck him, whatever he wants, just do something, anything -
And maybe it's because of how he begs and honks and whines and beeps and writhes and shakes that Noah prefers being spiked over doing the spiking - even if he still can't fit Mirage all the way inside.
Maybe it's because he likes how hot Mirage feels inside of him, like a brand. Maybe it makes him feel good to take so much power and strength inside of his tiny, fragile human body and control it.
At least he's kind. He always lets Mirage overload... eventually.

Disney: Hades SFW Alphabet
Note: Since I've decided not to do NSFW content, I decided to do the SFW alphabet instead.
💗Masterlist | WIP Page
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Hades loves getting affection, but often shows it in unusually ways.
Being the black sheep of the family, left him touch starved and desperate for affection(even if he'd never admit so....)
ACTS OF SERVICE!
Hades will(or have Pain and Panic) do whatever you need.
He loves physical touch, both giving and receiving it.
A day spent with Hades comes with the mandatory arm around your shoulders or waist at all times.
GIVE HIM COMPLIMENTS!
He will brush it off and or act like he already knows how amazing he is, but it will make his heart swell.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Hades is that shitty friend, that secretly cares, but needs to keep their dark and broody reputation up.
He will tell you the truth, despite whether he thinks that it will hurt your feelings or not.
Hades thinks that close relationships are not entirely necessary, and much prefers his own company.
At at least, that's what he tells himself.
Truthfully, this man is an extrovert stuck being alone, and pretends to not mind it, so his Zeus and Poseidon won't bug him.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Hades will never admit it, but he does.
Though, if you bring it up in front of others, he will deny it so hard.
He's probably the best to cuddle with honestly.
He's already a walking heater.
"You comfortable there?"
".....mmhhp." You sighed.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
Being alone in the Underworld, Hades had to step up and do a large majority of the cooking and such.
However, he's still really shitty at cooking.
Like, will burn everything somehow.
Well, outside of getting frustrated and turn whatever's in his path to ashes.
"Hades, I literally asked you to boil water. What the fuck happened?"
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Honestly, just fucking says it.
Hades has no filter and will not hesitate to say what he thinks.
He wants this to be done with as soon as possible.
This does not change for break ups.
He does do it in person though and face to face, as he has enough respect to do so.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Hades never seriously thought about marriage.
He was an immortal god.
He knew that being the king of the underworld scared others away.
Well, before his temper and jokes did.
There weren't too many on Mount Olympus who particularly enjoyed his brand of humor.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
He tries.
I swear, he really does.
He just isn't really sure how to go about doing so or how to turn off his jack-ass switch sometimes.
He's gotten a bit better, but still needs help.
He'll sit next to you while you're sad, but might ruin the moment when Pain frustrates him.
Or he'll be comforting you, and ultimately cracking a lot of jokes.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Hades is very handsy, and this extends to hugs.
He's basically like a giant space heater.
Perfect for those cold nights in the underworld.
Hades' hugs are very warm, engulfing you in a welcoming hug.
Which makes sense given his size.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
It takes him a while to say it.
Well, say it in a meaningful way that is.
You're used to him always jokingly saying it and such that it didn't even occur to you that that's what he was trying to say.
Which pissed him off.
"How much more clear did I have to be?!"
"You always say 'love ya' and shit," you groaned, "How am I supposed to know that this one was different?!"
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
ALL THE GOD DAMN TIME
Doesn't even try to hide it.
He will openly confess to being jealous with no cares given.
He doesn't care what you think about it.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Quick and short or Long and deep
There is no in-between
Though, one thing remains constant.
He loves to kiss your neck.
Mostly because he's hoping that you'll reciprocate.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
He doesn't like them, but they love him.
It drives him fucking crazy whenever he is around them because he's a busy guy.
He's running late to meetings because a child wanted to show off their "art" to him.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Hades is up way before you
He's got a million things to do in the Underworld and sleeping in is not one of them
He'll let you sleep in though
Well....until he wants your attention.
So, usually about an extra hour.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Loud.
Hades is a talker and if he hasn't been around you for a majority of the day, then he will talk your fucking ear off.
"Hades, I mean this is the nicest possible way," you said, "shut the fuck up and lay down with me."
He does so, but not without soen comments and grumbling.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Hades will reveal what he wants to
Usually in the form of ranting and rambling on and on and on.....
"......so I told Demeter that she's fucking nuts! I didn't steal your daughter. And then Zeus had get involved....." Hades groaned, sighing, "It was a while ordeal." Hades shrugged, "Anyway, so that is why you can't have a pet."
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Literally, has the worst patience.
The whole underworld is fire proof, luckily because it would not have survived his temper.
You still have no idea how Pain and Panic bounce back from being burned so often.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Hades may talk a mile a might and seem like he doesn't pay attention.
But, he does...... kind of.....
He tries.
"What's this?"
"Your favorite flowers." Hades said, "I had Pain and Panic run up and grab some."
"Oh....." You smiled, glancing down at the flowers.
"What's the matter? They ain't gonna bite you."
"Mmhmm." You nodded, "It's just that I am severely allergic to this particularly flower. If I touch it, you might have to fish me out of the River of Styx yourself."
Since then, he's been getting better at remembering the most important stuff, like your allergies.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
"I was gone for 5 fucking seconds."
"Hades! Watch the tone or you'll lose them." Aphrodite countered, glaring over at the God of the underworld. "And I'm surprised that you even got them..." she muttered, brushing aside some of your hair.
"And what does that mean?!"
"Oh," Aphrodite glances Hades up and down, "I think you don't need me to explain that to you, sweetie." She laughed.
"Oh, Hades is actually very sweet." You said, "in his own way." You muttered, shifting towards Hades' side.
Hades never mentioned it to you too much, but he always appreciated that you stood up to Aphrodite about him.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Hades is very protective.
Always has and always will be
Being a god, he has various ways and methods of protecting you or anyone he deems worth it
Sometimes you hate it, sometimes you love it.
He honestly doesn't care.
But, really loves it when you do tbh
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Hades does care and put effort into the bigger anniversaries and such.
"What's the occasion?" You said, gently placing down the glass of champagne.
"What?! Can't I just do something nice for once?"
"Okay, fair." You laughed.
Though, if he's plotting, then forget it.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
His temper.
He knows it and so do you.
He doesn't try to hide it and you, honestly, never ask him too.
Also, this tends to go without saying, stubborn as fuck.
"What the fuck is that?"
"A painting. I though that it would look nice in your office and it does. It really makes th-Stop making that face, Hades." You groaned, "It's just a painting."
"Yeah, a painting in my office. Get it out." Hades said, "I like my office before."
"Yeah, boring." You muttered, grabbing the painting off the wall.

A little.
He's the God of the Underworld.
Gotta keep it sharp and spooky for whatever poor soul crosses his path.
But compared to the other gods, not as much as them.

Mary whacks the back of her head, snapping her head forward and knocking her book awry.
"What the hell?" Beatrice rubs the spot Mary hit, flinching when Mary raises her hand to scrape down her face.
"You squint any harder, your face is going to freeze like that." Mary squints her eyes and scrunches her mouth, leaning forward until her nose is nearly touching the book Beatrice is reading. "You need glasses."
"I do not!" Beatrice scoffs, turns to Shannon indignantly. "Do you hear your wife?"
"Yeah," Shannon doesn’t look up from her easel. "She’s right, Speedy. You can’t see. I’ve been telling you that for years. But what do I know? I only taught you how to ride a bike and drive a car and write a check and - "
"Yeah yeah, we get it, you were parentified, moving on." Mary waves her hand dismissively and Shannon pokes her head out from behind the painting to stick her tongue out at her. "Beatrice, you need glasses. You’re fuckin’ blind."
"Why would you think that?"
"The State would like to present exhibit A, if it so pleases the court?" Mary stands, rolls her wrist in a feigned curtsy to Beatrice.
"Oh, you took one class in pre-law and it was on accident, shut the hell up."
"I presume it doesn’t please the court," Mary chuckles, turning back to Shannon bemused. Beatrice throws her book at Mary’s back, she misses and it sails through the air, hurtling in slow motion towards Shannon’s easel.
In this moment, Beatrice realizes three things.
1) She probably should have joined a sports team like Shannon had suggested when she was twelve, Shannon’s always right about things like this. Not only would it have improved her aim, but it also would have given her a chance to outrun Shannon.
2) She needs glasses. Desperately. Mary was less than two meters away from her, there is no reason she should’ve missed that throw.
3) She is about to die. If that book even touches Shannon’s easel, not to mention the canvas Shannon has been diligently working on for the last month, Beatrice will not have enough time to apologize before Martha and Rich are shopping for her coffin.
There are three things everyone knows not to mess with around Shannon: her art, her sister, and her music. At this rate, Taylor Swift bursting through the door to formally apologize for Beatrice’s blunder wouldn’t be able to save her.
And the only person Shannon loves more than Beatrice is Taylor Swift.
Beatrice turns to run but she’s not fast enough, she hears the book make contact and Shannon yelps and screams a slew of curses as Beatrice runs from the room. She doesn’t even stop to apologize, there’s no time, she has to save her breath in case she has to hold it while she hides from Shannon long enough for her to stop being angry.
"BEATRICE NO MIDDLE NAME MASTERS, I SWEAR TO GOD!" Shannon’s voice echoes down the hall Beatrice darts through, opening and closing doors frantically searching for the best hiding place. But this is Shannon’s house, no one knows it better than Shannon.
Except Mary.
Beatrice hides in the utility closet behind the water heater until she hears Shannon storm past her, peeking down the hall before creeping back to the living room in search of Mary.
There’s paint all over their new carpet, the mixing palette overturned on the ground, smearing red and blue and purple into their brand new, white carpet. But the easel is still upright, and the canvas is still in its place.
"Mary," Beatrice whispers, still hunched over and nearly crawling.
"Oh no, kiddo. I’m not getting you out of this one. We haven’t had this carpet one month — one month, Beatrice. Haven’t had it thirty-one days yet, and you’ve already stained it. Stained! You ruined our new carpet and now Shannon will never forgive me for egging you on, you are a terrible sister-in-law." Her tone is light and teasing, but there’s a little rawness in her words that strikes Beatrice between the ribs.
"Don’t talk to her like that," Shannon mutters and Beatrice nearly jumps out of her skin, turning and bracing for her punishment. "She didn’t mean to. That’s what happens when we throw things at each other. We’re adults, we should’ve known the risks. I shouldn’t have been painting on the new carpet anyways."
"Shan, I will pay to have this cleaned, I’m so sorry! What can I do, tell me, what do I need to do?" Beatrice fights the urge to get down on her knees and clasp her hands together and beg for Shannon’s forgiveness.
"You can start by washing this paint out of my hair and end by seeing an eye doctor." Shannon scrubs a particularly difficult stain on her shirt, fingers dyed blue.
"Yeah… maybe I do need glasses… what’re you working on anyways?" She reaches for the canvas only for her wrist to be slapped and pulled away.
"I would show you but it’s not like you could see it anyways." Shannon’s nose twitches when she lies. It has the entire time Beatrice has known her. It’s how Beatrice always wins when they’re playing poker and how she always knew when Shannon was upset with her in the beginning. Shannon hated getting upset with her in the beginning, because Beatrice could shut down for two or three days if she thought Shannon hated her, so Shannon buried a lot until Beatrice started to trust her. To trust herself.
"Is it for my birthday?" Beatrice hates her birthday. Always has, probably always will. Shannon’s nose twitches when she glances at Mary.
"Dude, isn’t your birthday in like three months?" Mary calls everyone dude when she’s lying.
Beatrice’s birthday is in exactly eleven days, sixteen hours and twenty-two minutes. But she’s not counting. Shannon is, but Beatrice isn’t. Because Beatrice hates her birthday.
Always has.
Beatrice doesn’t respond to Mary’s fib, takes the cloth from Shannon’s hand and wipes away a red streak across her cheek.
"Bathroom or kitchen?" Shannon grins and grabs a dining chair, drags it in front of the sink and turns the water on. Beatrice gathers her shampoo and conditioner and a towel from the bathroom while they wait for the water to get warm. Beatrice folds the towel over the edge of the sink and Shannon leans back, hanging her head over the basin. She winks at Beatrice while she wets her hair, smile warm and dopey and so Shannon that it makes her chest ache.
"I love you, ya know?" Beatrice pauses her movement to meet Shannon’s gaze. "You’ve always been my favorite, Speedy. Even when you’re ruining my new carpet or stealing my favorite cardigan or scratching my car. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me."
Beatrice doesn’t fight the tears in her eyes, leans down to press a kiss against Shannon’s forehead and lingers in her embrace, in the turpentine and acrylic paint and lemongrass shampoo scent that Shannon has always carried everywhere she goes. If Beatrice could bottle the smell in a jar, she would carry it with her everywhere and take a deep breath of it when she needs to settle her nerves.
Shannon is the best thing that’s ever happened to Beatrice too. But she knows this. She’s known since the night before her thirteenth birthday when Beatrice asked her what she could give her as a gift and Shannon had responded with simply a hug. And when Beatrice had asked why, Shannon had smiled and said that’s what sisters are for, isn’t it?
Something that had been broken in Beatrice for as long as she could remember was repaired that day. Something was fixed and it made her hold her head a little higher and walk a little faster and smile a little brighter. Because she had a sister. She had a sister that wanted her.
She has a sister who loves her more than gifts.
"Where’s this coming from, if you don’t mind my asking?" Beatrice scrubs the shampoo into Shannon’s hair, smiles at the deep sigh she exhales at the action.
"I’ve just been thinking a lot recently. About you, about me, about family and what it means. I know I tell you all the time that I love you, but I feel like sometimes you don’t understand how much I mean it. How much I love you." Shannon allows her eyes to slide closed as she relishes the way Beatrice is massaging her scalp. "You’re a good sister, Bea. You always have been. I took a while to figure it out, but you? You had it right from the start."
"You’re a good sister too, Shannon. In fact, you’re my favorite sister." Shannon rolls her eyes at Beatrice’s remark, but pulls Beatrice’s bubbly hands from her hair to hold them in front of her face.
"You’re easy to love, you know that, right? You’re easy to love and you deserve to be loved and you deserve happiness. You know all of those things are true, don’t you? Because I know I’ve told you them, but I can’t make you believe something, my bumble Bea." Beatrice nods softly, her cheeks wet and eyes burning. "Good, and if you ever start to doubt any of those things, just tell me and I’ll remind you until you can’t help but believe it."
Shannon kisses the inside of her wrist before releasing her hands, just before the line of soap and water. She hums quietly while Beatrice washes the paint from her hair, the water racing away red and blue and green. She scrunches most of the water out of her hair before helping her upright, gently raking the brush through her hair and folding it into a French braid.
If Beatrice had a strand of ribbon to tie around the end of her hair, it would’ve been just like when they were kids.
Shannon kisses her cheek before Beatrice is allowed to depart, three short squeezes on her shoulder before she’s asked to help Mary clean the paint from the carpet.
One, two, three.
I love you.
Find more here!
Beatrice tries on every set of frames in the store. Yet somehow, she hates every pair more than the last. She’s halfway through her second round when Shannon squeezes her shoulders. Beatrice sighs.
"It’s okay, you can always try contacts." Her hand is soft and warm and has green paint dried underneath her nails.
"You know I can’t." Beatrice doesn’t like things in or even near her eyes. The idea of stabbing herself on purpose every day to put in and take out contacts makes her ill. Her single attempt when she was 16 had made her violently ill. For three days. "It’s just - I don’t know. I feel like they’re going to change my life or something."
"Oh my sweet, darling bumble Bea. Glasses won’t change your life. Not as much as me killing you because you take more than three hours to decide on them." She chuckles and scrunches her nose. "Just a smidge."
"Fine. What five were your favorite?" Beatrice rolls her eyes and Shannon grins toothily, patting her shoulder before speeding away and returning with five frames. She holds them out like a mentor would extend a prized sword to their protege.
Beatrice tries each on again, turning and tilting and spinning and following every direction Shannon gives while she inspects each one intently. Finally, she decides on one. A pair of thin round, wire framed glasses. Beatrice settles for them.
The first time she wears them, she decides she hates them again and they go back in their case for a week. It isn’t until Shannon points to the faded blue stain in her living room the next time she visits that Beatrice wears them again.
She hates it. She hates that she can actually see easier. She hates that she can see each individual leaf on the trees and each petal on the flowers and each crack in the sidewalk. She hates it because it means Mary was right and there’s nothing Beatrice hates more than letting Mary be right. She hates it because Mary doesn’t know how to win with grace, she gets pretentious and persnickety and boastful. It’s annoying.
The first time she wears the glasses to Ava’s, Ava and Diana are in the kitchen making eggs. Diana has shells in her hair and Ava is scrubbing yolk off the wall with a cup of water and dishrag.
"What’s it?" Diana reaches for Beatrice’s face when she steps into the room, eggy fingers grabbing for the untainted glass.
"They’re glasses. To help me see."
"You got glasses?" Ava chirps, still cleaning the wall.
"Uh, yeah. Mary’s been telling me I’m blind almost as long as I’ve known her, apparently she was right."
"She can’t be that right, you tell me I’m pretty all the time and that’s true," Ava teases, finally dropping the rag and turning. Her cheeks are flushed and she’s breathless, it makes Beatrice’s chest tight. "Oh."
The cup slips from her hand, sloshing dirty water when it bounces against the linoleum and splashing across Ava’s feet. Her cheeks and ears burn red as she stumbles over an apology, eyes wide with reverence. She doesn’t stoop to collect the cup, frozen as she watches Beatrice watching her.
She swallows, blinks a few times and shakes her head before restarting. "Sorry, you look… wow. Okay, I’m sorry."
Finally Ava tears her eyes away, face and chest burning deep as she clears her throat and mops up the water slowly.
"Mama red," Diana whispers, rocking into her toes and back. She continues, singsonging, "Tomatillo, tomatillo, toma-toma-tillo."
"Diana." Ava’s tone is warning, it makes Beatrice’s chest warm.
Diana giggles, tucking the fingers of one hand into her mouth and reaching for Beatrice with the other. Beatrice picks her up, settles Diana on her hip and narrowly dodges her attempt to steal Beatrice’s glasses.
"Are you alright?" Beatrice’s skin itches when Ava doesn’t look at her.
"Yeah, yeah… I’m…" Ava sucks in a deep breath, holding it in her chest before exhaling slowly with an easy smile. "I’m good, are you hungry?"
"Not particularly."
Ava nods and avoids looking Beatrice in the face, scrambling the eggs in simple silence.
"Are you… are you certain you’re alright?" Beatrice doesn’t like how Ava won’t look at her, even when she settles Diana in a seat with a pile of scrambled eggs in front of her.
"Yeah. Yeah, I’m alright. You’re just…" Ava’s cheeks burn deep red and she stares intensely at her feet, her hair creating a curtain for her to hide behind. Beatrice picks an egg out of Diana’s hair and resists the urge to brush Ava’s hair out of her face, resists the urge to make her continue. Ava takes a quick, deep breathe before exhaling, "You’re making me nervous."
"I apologize," Beatrice takes a large step back, Ava’s fingers wrap around her wrist and pull her back, glancing up at her quickly before dropping her eyes again.
"It’s - it’s not a bad thing. I don’t - I don’t think. It’s - its - good nervous," Ava stumbles, twisting Beatrice’s fingers. "I’m sorry…"
"Is it the glasses?" Beatrice is timid, pushing her glasses up her nose. Ava looks up slowly, eyes wide and cheeks pink when she nods.
"A bit."
Oh. Beatrice blushes and bites the inside of her lip to suppress her smile.
~*~
There is one thing.
Well, two things. Two little things that Beatrice wasn’t expecting to happen when she started wearing her glasses.
Number one is Diana’s freckles. She has so many. She’s more freckle than not. She has a smattering across her face, splattered down her shoulders and back, sprayed over her legs. Nearly every millimeter of her skin is covered in tiny, pale, freckles. It’s adorable.
"Has she always had this many freckles?" Beatrice is connecting a group of them to form a star across Diana’s back.
"Yeah, Bea. Have you always been this blind?" Ava smiles at her, drops her head on Beatrice’s shoulder.
"It would be a fair presumption, yes." Beatrice rests her cheek on the top of her head, lets the warmth of her touch burn into her bones.
"I have to say," Ava lifts her head up, takes Beatrice’s chin between her thumb and forefinger, tilts her head every direction while watching closely. "They do make you look hot."
Oh god. Oh no.
Beatrice’s cheeks burn a deep crimson red, her heartbeat thrashing in her ears and her heart trying to chisel out from beneath her ribcage. It’s unfair. It’s unfair how easy it is for Ava to do this to her. To make her forget how to breathe and become a complete dunce for ninety seconds while her brain reboots.
"I - uh - thank you." Beatrice can’t look at her. She can’t look at her because of the second little thing she hadn’t been expecting.
The second thing is Ava. Not just her compliments. But all of her. Beatrice can see the way her eyes sparkle when she smiles and her freckles dance when she laughs and she bites her lip when Beatrice tells a terrible joke.
Beatrice was already infatuated with Ava before she could see the crinkle in the corners of her eyes when she makes Beatrice laugh, before she could see the way her nose twitches when she sleeps. Before she knew, without a doubt, Ava is the most beautiful person to ever exist.
Diana twists in Beatrice’s lap and holds up the picture she’s coloring, it’s a very obviously giant orange cat. There’s a shaky house-shaped object, a sun in the corner of the page, and flowers that reach above the rooftop.
"Oh wow, Diana! This is amazing!" Beatrice leans closer to inspect it, traces the sun’s smile with the pad of her thumb. "Tell me about it."
"Arson." She growls his name then giggles brightly, swinging the paper through the air. "Like?"
"Like? Diana, I love your picture." Diana grins and presses a wet kiss on Beatrice’s cheek, thrusting the paper into her chest. "Are you giving this to me?"
Diana nods and Beatrice smiles, "Can I put it on my wall?"
Diana dances in front of her all the way to the wall where Beatrice proudly displays all of the art Diana has made her. Diana points to an empty space and Beatrice tacks the image there, stepping back and admiring the collage of scribbles that cover most of the wall.
"Come on, Picasso." She nods back to Ava, face alight with something Ava can’t name but it’s bright and shiny and makes Ava want to pinch her freckled cheeks.
Diana steals Beatrice’s glasses when she climbs back into her lap, attempting to balance them on her tiny nose. Beatrice laughs and helps her hold the frames in place, Diana grins.

got any tips for beginner aquarists? :O
any advice i’d give is highly dependent on what you’re looking to accomplish — all fish are very different and have different needs! however in all my years working in the aquatics department at a pet store, i’ve found that water quality can be hard to grasp for some people — understandably so, it can get complicated, but it’s very important for the health of your fish. here’s some of the important stuff that i learned the hard way so you don’t have to!
- FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY. DECHLORINATE YOUR WATER!!! seachem prime is the most concentrated dechlorinator you’ll find at most stores at 2 drops per gallon, and it lasts a good while. it’s got a strong sulfur smell to it in the bottle, but unless you massively overdose it you won’t smell it in your tank. the #1 mistake people make is not dechlorinating their tap water before filling a tank or doing a water change, and it sucks because it’s such an easy fix but can totally wipe a tank. always pre treat your water!!
- if you’re going to be using tap water, consider testing your water’s pH at the very least so you know what you’re working with. pH is integral to the health of aquatic animals down to a cellular level — if your pH is too high or too low, it doesn’t matter if you’re doing everything else right. keep an eye on that shit.
- if you need to adjust it, look into more natural ways to do so rather than bottled pH booster or reducers (sometimes chemical additives can react with eachother in funky ways). to raise your pH, put a mesh baggie of something like crushed coral sand in your filter. to lower it, look into driftwood that leeches tannins - it’ll turn your water a bit brownish, but that’s okay. in fact, a lot of fish in the hobby naturally come from waters thatre tannin-y, and will be quite alright with things a little murky!
- if you can’t use your tap water for whatever reason, bottled spring water is next best. distilled is really only good for topping off after water has evaporated, but it lacks a lot of minerals thatre important for your fish’s health, so don’t JUST use distilled.
- the larger a volume of water you’re working with, the more forgiving the entire tank system will be. i usually don’t recommend going smaller than ten gallons for your first tank — maybe a 20long or 29 if you want lots of options. you can definitely make tank volumes smaller than ten gallons work (i’ve got a planted low tech 3gal that’s been going strong for quite some time now) but it’s generally a lot more finicky and will be much easier for a mistake to snowball into an emergency
- filters are good! please use a filter on your tank. in general every tank should have a mechanical filter for water movement and to help maintain good bacteria (more on that in a bit), an airline bubbler to help keep the water moving and make sure it’s oxygenated, and a heater because most fish in the hobby are tropical and like things toasty.
- make sure you get a heater with a built in thermostat that will shut off if it gets too hot, ideally one that you can adjust instead of a pre-programmed one. they’re a bit pricy at box stores because they’re the ‘advanced’ option, but hygger is a solid brand and you can get a really nice one of theirs with a temp control dial on amazon for like 20$.
- PLEASE NEVER EVER EVER LEAVE YOUR HEATER PLUGGED IN WHILE ITS OUT OF THE WATER!!! it will overheat and break and is also a fire hazard. i recently had my water level on my reef tank drop due to a pump malfunction and the heater was SMOKING when i got home from work and found it. it will also make your heater thoroughly nonfunctional, and replacing them is a pain. most have a minimum waterline marked, make sure you pay attention to that. unplug it during tank maintenance if you’re worried about it not being fully submerged.
- you’re going to want to be patient. while you COULD fill a tank with water and then plop fish into it the next day, you’re not going to be as successful as if you’d aged the tank a bit and allowed a biofilter to establish itself . i recommend doing some research about the nitrogen cycle and nitrifying bacteria, but the long and short of it is as follows:
— biological waste (fish poop, uneaten food, dropped plant leaves if you have live plants) in your tank produces ammonia. ammonia is highly toxic to fish even in small amounts, so you want this to be as close to 0 as possible.
— there are certain bacteria that will process ammonia into NITRITES. nitrites are still not great to have a lot of, but are much less toxic than ammonia.
— there are OTHER bacteria that will then take those nitrites and turn them into NITRATES. nitrates are the least toxic of the three, and so your end goal is to establish a healthy population of these various bacteria so that any available ammonia is quickly processed into nitrite, which then becomes nitrate. nitrate can only be removed from the system via a water change, but some is absorbed by plants as well. you still definitely want to do water changes even in a well planted tank.
- there are lots of different ways to introduce these bacteria populations to your tank and establish a biofilter. bear in mind that you want to treat your biofilter like any other living thing, so make sure things like temperature and pH stay as consistent and stable as possible. ideally, you want to decide what sort of fish you’d like to keep and then figure out what their preferred ranges are, and then keep your tank at that for the entire bioseeding process
- if you want to do it au naturale, these bacteria will colonize any body of dechlorinated freshwater if given enough time. you want to add a source of ammonia (some people will buy cheap feeder fish and put them in there, but i find that a bit unfair to the fish as if it doesn’t go smoothly they could suffer from ammonia burns or other health issues. plus, it could introduce all sorts of parasites and pathogens to your tank that can be a pain to clean out without hurting your bacteria) . the safest and cheapest way is to ‘feed’ your tank with little bits of fish food every now and then
- either invest in a test kit, or find a fish store that can test for you. chain stores like petco or petsmart offer testing, but they use the cheap strip tests that are probably the least accurate. they’re mostly good for telling you ‘yup, ammonia is there’ but not actually indicating if it’s decreasing over time or not. do some digging to see if there’s any local fish stores in your area that can test for you, and ask what methods they use. chemical tests are good for giving a ballpark and generally the highest quality the average hobbyist will get. i use a spectrophotometer at work so i’m spoiled LMFAO but you don’t need all that
- you want to see an initial spike in ammonia, which will then start to go down. you don’t want it to go down TOO much and starve your bacteria, so keep feeding your tank as this happens. eventually, you’ll also see a nitrite spike — this is good! this means the first group of bacteria are here and working hard. once the nitrites start decreasing you will hopefully see nitrates start to go up, and then congrats, your tank has a biofilter!! you can start adding animals now, although make sure you don’t have too much leftover ammonia or yucky food on the bottom first. i would start small — nerite snails are the roombas of the freshwater aquarium world, so you’ll want a couple anyway. add these first. if they’re still chillin after about a week, you’re good to proceed.
- this process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. the longer you wait, the more well established and stable your tank will be.
- you CAN buy bottled bacteria to speed this process up a bit — your success may vary. most of the stuff you’ll find on shelves at a pet store likely isn’t alive anymore, but it doesn’t hurt to add because even if the bacteria are dead, you’re still adding waste material to help kickstart your cycle. the brand i’ve had the best luck with (and that we use for bioseeding systems at the aquarium i work at) is dr tim’s. not sure how many stores carry it, but you can find it online easily. there’s freshwater and saltwater versions, make sure you get the right one.
- even if you’re adding bottled bacteria, i would still let the tank run empty for a couple weeks. this lets you make sure all your equipment runs well and lets you play around with decor or lighting without stressing any fish out.
- when adding animals to your tank, do so gradually to avoid overloading your biofilter with ammonia. how gradually depends on tank size, but it’s always better to be more cautious than not.
- information about the hobby in general varies in quality depending on where you get it — so seek information from as many sources as possible! look through forums! read articles! ask the guy at your local fish store! ask another guy at a different fish store! don’t take any one source as fact, but bear in mind that not everyone may be right. the more opportunities you take to learn, the faster your knowledge base will grow and the easier it will get.
- tank size is its own beast, but my rule of thumb has always been that there’s never any such thing as giving a fish TOO MUCH space, but there’s absolutely such thing as not giving them enough. a betta fish, for example, can SURVIVD in 1-3 gallons of water… but will absolutely thrive in 10-20. in general, take a recommended tank size for any species as the bare minimum if anything.
- most of all, don’t be afraid to make mistakes! it happens to everyone, and it’s part of learning. anyone who tries to make you feel bad for not knowing something is just being rude. if you’re willing to learn, that’s the most important thing!
- pet store employees usually aren’t experts, but they’ve got questions they’re obligated to ask before they sell you an animal. if they deny you a sale due to tank size or something like that, don’t argue with them. they’re not judging you personally, they’re just doing their job. if you absolutely must lie to them to get them to give you the fish, at least be consistent with it. nobody ever likes having to go ‘well actually…’ halfway through scooping a half dozen fish because you let slip that you only have a ten gallon after insisting you have a 40.
- unless you have a pond or space for several hundred gallons of tank, stay away from goldfish. they’re adorable, i know, but they’re carp. they get big. they live a long time. they poop so much. they aren’t worth the hassle for most people.
- please never ever release fish you don’t want into the wild. if a pet store won’t take them for whatever reason, that sucks, but it’s on you. we don’t need any more invasive species. please
- please don’t flush fish that are still alive. if you absolutely must euthanize a fish, look into how to do so humanely (yes, people do this, and yes, there’s a right and a wrong way to do it)
