I’m counting my many blessings tonight - something I don’t do often enough.
Our life may not be perfect, but we’re better off than most. I get so caught up in my little pity parties sometimes that I forget to be thankful for what Ive been given.
- Jim makes enough money for us to afford groceries, pet food & supplies, the car payment and auto insurance. We want for nothing. I have a Cintiq 13HD, a Switch, and a PS4. I’m not bragging - just reminding myself how fortunate I am to be able to own such luxuries. Many people can’t even afford to eat :( Meanwhile, I’m typing this on Jim’s Macbook with the TV on in the background. I’m ashamed at myself for complaining all the time.
- I gripe about the weather in Alabama a whole lot, but you know what? We have air conditioning. Many people here live without it. Not because they don’t mind the heat, but because they can’t afford the $300+ electric bills every month. I’m so grateful my pets and I don’t have to worry about staying cool in the summer.
- We don’t have our own kitchen, but I can prepare meals on my single-burner and wash dishes using the electric kettle. We have a refrigerator and freezer to store food and access to bottled water for drinking and cooking.
- I have six amazing pets - 3 cats and 3 ferrets. I’m never totally alone because there’s always a cat nearby. Right now Gizmo is with me, Miss Kitty is about 3 feet away on the floor, and Littlemin is asleep on the antique buffet in the hall. Both Gizmo and Littlemin love me so much, they spring into action to ‘protect’ me whenever a dog wanders up here. Gizmo is 16 years old and has a limp, but I know he’d give his life for me if he had to. I truly have the best pets on the planet.
- I’ve made it clear I don’t like living in Alabama, but even I can’t deny this is a beautiful area. We live on Weiss lake, surrounded by gorgeous, green mountains. We’re just a short drive from Cherokee Rock Village, Little River Canyon, Mentone, and Noccalula Falls. People drive hours to visit those places. I could go anytime I wanted!
- I’m thankful for the few people in my life I’m able to call friends. Quality over quantity! I don’t keep in touch as well as I should, but there are still a handful of folks who make an effort to be part of my life. They understand and respect that I need space, yet never hesitate to offer an ear whenever I need one. I don’t deserve them at all ;___;
- I’m alive today. I saw the sun rise, cuddled my cats, kissed my ferrets, cooked dinner, and I’m typing this right now. There are times when I wish I could simply cease to exist, but then I’d never get to experience another chilly fall day, or a really good cup of hot chocolate, or a purring cat in my arms. The little things make life worth living, even if it’s not always easy.
