Kanatal Trek Adventure: Why This Himalayan Gem Should Be on Your List
Tumblr media
If you're looking for a blend of scenic beauty, tranquility, and adventure in the Himalayas, the Kanatal Trek is the perfect choice. Nestled in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, Kanatal offers an offbeat trekking experience, far from the crowded trails. One of the unique features that make this trek so appealing is the kanatal height in feet, which stands at approximately 8,500 feet, providing cool temperatures and unparalleled views. Here’s why the Kanatal Trek should be on every trekker's list.
1. The Appeal of Kanatal: A High-Altitude Escape
Kanatal is a quiet and picturesque hamlet, known for its natural beauty and serenity. With the kanatal height in feet reaching 8,500, this destination is perfect for trekkers seeking an escape into the heart of the mountains. The elevation adds a unique charm to the trek, offering sweeping views of the Garhwal Himalayas, fresh mountain air, and a climate that stays cool year-round.
2. Trails and Scenic Beauty
The Kanatal Trek leads you through diverse landscapes that include lush oak and pine forests, open meadows, and rugged mountain paths. Each step brings you closer to stunning Himalayan vistas, with the kanatal height in feet giving you access to views of majestic peaks such as Chaukhamba, Bandarpoonch, and even Nanda Devi on clear days. The trails range from moderate to challenging, making this trek suitable for both beginner and intermediate trekkers.
3. Kanatal Height in Feet: How Altitude Affects Your Trek
One of the most distinguishing features of the Kanatal Trek is its altitude. The kanatal height in feet at 8,500 can be a new experience for trekkers who are not accustomed to high-altitude conditions. At this elevation, the weather remains cool, and the air is thinner, which may require a bit of acclimatization for those new to such heights. Staying hydrated and taking breaks ensures you adapt comfortably to the kanatal height in feet while enjoying the surrounding beauty.
4. Best Time to Visit Kanatal Trek
While Kanatal is accessible year-round, spring (March to June) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for trekking. During these months, the kanatal height in feet makes the climate pleasant, with clear skies that allow for breathtaking mountain views. Summer offers a mild climate, making it a perfect escape from the heat of the plains, while winter brings snowfall and turns Kanatal into a winter wonderland, ideal for snow-trekking enthusiasts.

5. Highlights of the Kanatal Trek
The Kanatal Trek is filled with memorable highlights that showcase the beauty and charm of this hidden gem. Here are some top experiences:
Himalayan Views from 8,500 Feet: Thanks to the kanatal height in feet, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas. The crisp, cool air and high altitude make these sights especially vivid, and each viewpoint offers a unique perspective of the region’s rugged peaks.
Surkanda Devi Temple: This ancient temple is one of the highest points near Kanatal. A trek up to Surkanda Devi brings you above the kanatal height in feet, offering spiritual serenity combined with expansive mountain views.
Flora and Fauna: The trek is dotted with vibrant rhododendrons, dense deodar, and pine forests. The rich biodiversity includes sightings of various birds, deer, and, on rare occasions, the Himalayan black bear.
6. Tips for Trekking at the Kanatal Height in Feet
A successful trek at high altitudes requires some preparation. Here are tips for making the most of your Kanatal adventure:
Pack for the Weather: Due to the kanatal height in feet, the weather can be cooler than expected, even in summer. Pack layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable trekking shoes to ensure you’re prepared for changing conditions.
Hydrate and Rest: High altitudes can make you more prone to dehydration. Carry enough water and energy-rich snacks, and take breaks to allow your body to adjust to the kanatal height in feet.
Pace Yourself: The gradual ascent at 8,500 feet can be demanding for those new to trekking. Take your time, maintain a steady pace, and avoid overexerting yourself on the trail.
7. How to Reach Kanatal
Kanatal is well-connected by road and is a convenient weekend getaway from Delhi. The nearest airport is in Dehradun, while Rishikesh and Dehradun serve as the closest railheads. From Dehradun, the scenic drive to Kanatal will take you through the charming towns of Mussoorie and Dhanaulti. As you approach the trek, the kanatal height in feet becomes evident as the road winds through higher elevations, offering glimpses of the lush landscapes and distant peaks.
8. Why Kanatal Trek Should Be on Your List
The Kanatal Trek is an ideal mix of adventure, nature, and peace. Unlike other crowded trekking trails, Kanatal remains largely unspoiled, making it a perfect choice for those looking to disconnect and immerse in nature. The unique kanatal height in feet allows trekkers to experience the Himalayas in a way few other treks can offer, with incredible views, solitude, and a sense of accomplishment as you conquer the elevation. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a nature enthusiast, Kanatal promises an unforgettable journey.
Conclusion
Kanatal is a hidden treasure of the Himalayas, offering a serene trekking experience with stunning natural beauty. The kanatal height in feet, combined with the lush surroundings and high-altitude views, makes it an adventure you won’t want to miss. How to choose the right time for visiting Surkanda Devi temple?
Tumblr media
Introduction to Surkanda Devi temple
Surkanda Devi temple is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Surkanda, a manifestation of the divine feminine power. It is located near Kanatal, a hill station in Uttarakhand, India. The temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the body parts of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva carried her corpse and performed the cosmic dance of destruction. According to the legend, the head of Sati fell at the spot where the temple stands today.
The temple is situated at an altitude of about 2756 metres and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It is surrounded by dense forests and rich biodiversity. The temple is also known for its architectural beauty and its festivals, especially Ganga Dusshera, which is celebrated every year between May and June.
Best time to visit Surkanda Devi temple in Uttarakhand
The best time to visit Surkanda Devi temple depends on your preferences and expectations. Some possible factors to consider are:
•  Weather: The weather at the temple can be cold and windy throughout the year, due to its high elevation. The summer months (April to June) are relatively warmer and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C. The monsoon season (July to September) brings heavy rainfall and fog, which can make the trekking difficult and risky. The winter months (October to March) are very cold and snowy, with temperatures dropping below zero. However, some people enjoy the snow-covered landscape and the festive atmosphere during this time.
•  Crowd: The temple attracts a lot of devotees and tourists, especially during the festivals and holidays. The most popular festival is Ganga Dusshera, which is celebrated every year between May and June. During this time, the temple is decorated with flowers and lights, and various rituals and ceremonies are performed. However, this also means that the temple can be very crowded and noisy, and you may have to wait in long queues for darshan. If you prefer a quieter and more peaceful experience, you may want to avoid these peak seasons and visit during the weekdays or off-seasons.
•  Trekking: The temple is accessible only by a 2 km uphill trek from Kaddukhal, which can take about an hour or more depending on your fitness level. The trek is steep and rocky, and can be challenging for some people. You can also opt for a horse ride, which costs around Rs 400 for one side. The trek offers scenic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and you can also spot some wildlife along the way. However, you should also be prepared for the weather conditions, which can change quickly and unexpectedly. You should carry adequate water, snacks, clothing, and footwear for the trek.
Ultimately, the best time to visit Surkanda Devi temple depends on your personal choice and convenience. You can check the weather forecast, crowd status, and festival dates before planning your trip.

Winter Trip to Canal-Himalayas / Surkanda Devi temple fail - Part 1
For a long time, my mind has built a resting place to go to some beautiful places located in the Himalayas and its surroundings where I can rest a bit from this chaotic crowd and spend time with these enchanting ranges. Somehow it combines me with supremacy and power. My love for the Himalayas began when I came to Manali six months ago. From then on, I have decided that whatever I may be, I will definitely organize and give myself with various trips, which will calm my mind and give inner peace to the soul. I also like to read about Uttaranchal / Himachal.
Tumblr media
I've discovered many tracking sites and places where I can directly connect with nature, just a few weeks ago, I was just strolling through the net and learning about Kanatal Camp. I finally decided to visit this weekend to reach the temple of Surkanda Devi at the end of this week, which was 10 km away from there. I planned a two-day trip with one night stay at Rishikesh and booked the hotel well enough to avoid the 11th-hour crowd for the cheap hotel.
Just briefly tell the people that Kannat is a small village in Uttarakhand which is located on Rishikesh-Chamba-Missouri highway, 80 km from Rishikesh and 15 km from Chamba (Uttarakhand). The canal is located approximately 300 km from Delhi at an altitude of 9000+ feet. This is the place where we can see a spectacular view of the snow-covered mountains and is a very quiet place.
My wife and I started this beautiful journey from Indirapuram on the morning of 6.30 Am, on the haze of rain, heavy chili. We had already packed all the accessories last night, which contained enough layers of clothing as if we were going on a long vacation for a month but it is not a matter of sadness. There was a recession that was taking place last night, so I like to do icing on the cake because I like driving fully in the rain.
The rain was heavy and my wife insisted on taking me a holiday in Haridwar and I quickly responded in yes and "got near the Ghats of Ganga". We took the Haridwar-Rishikesh Marg, in fact, there is another route which passes through Mussoorie-sanatorium, but we preferred it because it has spread to the Chamba due to peace. Apart from this, especially I do not like to come to Mussoorie, because the status of the Queen's crown which keeps it, is carried away by traffic jams and those who do not have the tendency to respect nature.
Tumblr media
We took the direction [the best way in my thoughts]: -
Ghaziabad-Modinagar-Meerut-Muzaffarnagar-Roorkee-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Narendranagar-Fakot-Chamba- Kanatal-Kaddukhal-Surkanda_Mata
We were traveling at very normal speed, the traffic was very low because the rain was heavy and the cold winds were going on, which we can feel by looking at the trees passing beside us. In the meantime, we were discussing the peaceful Ganga and the innocent hills which is not too far and coming once in two months will help us to stay alive internally for a few more years.
We are about 11 AM On reaching Haridwar and looking at the quiet Ganga and the hills, my wife cited the sudden "This is the promise that Na Na", whose relevance caused me to nod the consent. We were very excited and took a break near the ghats of Ganga. I parked my car near the ghats, walked with my wife with my umbrella, because the rain was following us, in a hurry, we decided to sit in the car, not completely damp, but some extent So yes and decided that drinking a tea sip inside the car, it was pleasant.
We started our journey and reached Rishikesh around 12.30 hrs. Hariyali was super awesome on our way to Rishikesh. We can realize that the boundless purity in the air was raining heavily. I have not seen Rishikesh so beautiful, we can even look up the snow covered hills, which was rare. It is best to complete perfection.
When I reached Lakshman-Jhula, I parked my car, called my hotel manager and asked him to look at the direction of the hotel, he himself came to Lakshman-Jhula and reached the guest house with us. We did our lunch, rested for some time.
In the winter, we had high time to find Rishikesh of the rain. We went to Mahadev temple, made a quick walk on the hills of Rishikesh, flowing through the entire flow of the Ganges. It was very cold and there was an umbrella, yet we were very excited and enjoying beauty from it that we decided to walk towards the Ram Jhula, which was 2 kilometers away from our stay.
Tumblr media
It was a terrible experience with the clouds floating on the mountains and the drops of rain were giving the best combination of a sparkling landscape. Due to the heavy downturn, we walked fast and soon realized that there was bad dirt. I can see my wife and my wife trembling like anything else, it was so sweet that we could not catch a camera too, so we decided to make a soup and the best noodles in a cafe near the Mahadev temple.
We rested a bit, talked about the next morning plans of the Kanatal / Surkanda Devi temple. We were not confident enough to make up the Kananal as the rain was heavy and was completely taking a toll on our journey. Since this was my first visit to the mountains, so I was also driving myself, and I am convinced that with this scenario, I have to stop myself from traveling further.
It was 5 P.M., finally we decided not to challenge nature with our own immunity and chose to go back to our guest house, so that we can change our clothes. I was waiting for the cashier to get my change back and suddenly from somewhere, the sun ray looked out of the glass and looked down. We were both very happy and smiling while looking at each other. We also faced a rainbow on our way back to the guesthouse, which worked as a piece on the cake.
