Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age: Lightsabers and Blasters and the Jedi
If there's one concept I love to rotate around in my head, its the Jedi's use of lightsabers and how they rarely use blasters outside of very extreme or fringe situation.
Like, we know its a purposeful choice on their part. It's far far simpler to get good at shooting a gun than it would be to become a master sword fighter. Add the Force into the mix, and the Jedi would become even more deadly warriors in a galaxy where they're already among the best, if not the best.
Obi-wan's time undercover as Rako Hardeen shows that he's able to match the skill of someone know as the "Marksman of Concord Dawn" with little issue. Kanan and later Ezra show just how much of an edge the Force can give in a shoot-out. In the first episode of Rebels, we literally see Kanan drop three or four stormtroopers in rapid succession while driving a speeder bike. All when he's still actively disguising/holding back his connection to the Force. We even see examples of mixing blasters and lightsabers in the Jedi games, with Cere Junda using both at the end of Fallen Order and Cal developing his own style of it partway through Survivor.
Every time we've seen a Jedi pick up a blaster, they can easily match trained soldiers and experienced fighters.
It's easy, and that's arguably why we don't see more Jedi using them.
To be a Jedi, a blaster is a clumsy weapon not because it somehow inaccurate or unwieldy, but because it gives them too few options.
For a Jedi with just a blaster, the only way to defend themselves against other people with blasters is to shoot back. Sure they could try and shoot the weapons out of their opponents' hands, but even then they would have no way to defend themselves or others from numerous shooters, nor would it stop a disarmed enemy from grabbing another weapon and undoing the Jedi's progress.
For a Jedi with just a blaster, the best way, the safest way, to end the fight is always going to be to shoot to kill.
When a Jedi has a lightsaber, however, it gives them so much more flexibility. They can provide cover for their allies or those they are protecting, they can turn blaster bolts back on their aggressors to discourage them from attacking, they can more easily advance to nullify the main advantage of blasters or more easily retreat and escape from any pursers. That's not even mentioning all the practical uses a lightsaber has as a tool outside of combat.
And sure, it's not that blasters in and of themselves don't suit the Jedi way. Stun blasters or emp/electrial blasters could be useful if they suited the situation.
But again, it's not about whats optimal or easiest, its about what those options take away from the table.
If you see someone running towards you with a blaster, you might risk pulling out your own and shooting your way out, depending on how desperate you are. After all, if you are thinking your life could end at any moment on another's whim, it's becomes more enticing to take the initiate and put yourself on even ground.
But if you see someone with a lightsaber? Where the danger at range comes not from being shot, but from your own attacks being turned against you? It might make you hesitant to attack, more willing another way out of the situation, whether through surrender, fleeing, or talking things out.
Does it always work out this? No, of course not. Fear makes people act impulsively, recklessly. But at the very worst, it can make it easier for a Jedi to deescalated and take control of a fight, where a blaster might only escalate the situation beyond anyone's control.
All of this is not to mention how the use of blasters can affect a Jedi's mentality. Cere Junda and Cal Kestis both rely on blasters in their darkest moments, when Cere returns to the Fortress Inquisitorius and when Cal is pursuing someone who betrayed him and killed those he cared about. Ezra's switching to use a proper blaster instead of rebuilding his stunning blaster/saber combo marks a dangerous shift in his thinking.
After all, it's all so easy to shot and kill someone, you barely have to move or think. Aren't some enemies not worth the effort of using your lightsaber? Maybe they're so inconsequential they're not even worthy to die by the weapon of a Jedi... they're less than worthless, less than a real person, they need to get out of the way or be forced out of it, how dare they oppose you!?!?
... ... ...
A lightsaber is a Jedi's weapon because it reflects what a Jedi is.
A lightsaber can be as dangerous to its user as it can be to their opponents. It requires training, self discipline, a sense of purposefulness that a blaster simply doesn't. The Jedi know what happens when they seek a quick and easy path....
A self-imposed limitation. A defensive weapon. A purposeful weapon.
An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Inquisitor Women in Star Wars: a 2024 Summary
while women are underrepresented in the Sith order, the Inquisitorius is quite an egalitarian organization :) let's sum up what we know about these lovely ladies
(spoilers for everything concerning inquisitor characters, including the manner of their death)
2. Second Sister aka Trilla Suduri
Padawan to Cere Junda at the time of Order 66
captured and tortured into joining the Inquisitorius shortly after
dies 5 years later, executed by Vader for her perceived failure
human; age unknown, I'd estimate late teens to mid-twenties at the time of recruitment
created for Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), appeared before the game's release as a cameo in Darth Vader 2017 issue 19 (2018) and as a main character in the game tie-in miniseries Dark Temple. mentioned in Rise of the Red Blade (2023).
ambitious, relentless, a good slicer. wears a full helmet all the time when on the job.
3. Third Sister aka Reva Sevander
12-year-old human youngling at the time of Order 66
joined the organization voluntarily and while hiding her identity, at an unspecified point a relatively short time before 10 years post-Order 66
left the Inquisitorius 10 years after Order 66, after failing to kill Darth Vader and being left to die
created for Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). not in RotRB, likely due to not yet being a member during the book's timeline. does not appear and isn't mentioned in other canon material, outside of OWK's comic adaptation.
spent 10 years single-mindedly pursuing her goal of revenge. very intense and ambitious. youngest recruit we know of and the only one to have at least a quasi-canon number duplicate (the Third Brother).
4. Fourth Sister aka Lyn Rakish
joined the Inquisitorius around the time of Order 66, apparently of her own free will
species, age and rank at that point unknown, may have been a peer of Barriss or somewhat older
left the Inquisitorius after serving it for over 15 years (actual time unknown but less than 20 years)
created for Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), part of the main cast in Tales of the Empire (2024), mentioned in RotRB (2023).
dedicated to the organization, pragmatic and better at cooperation than most colleagues.
7. Seventh Sister
joined the Inquisitorius shortly after Order 66, and appears to have been tortured into it
mirialan; age and rank before recruitment unknown, implied she may have been a peer of Aayla Secura or younger
killed in action after serving the Inquisitorius for 16 years
created for Rebels s2 (2015), a minor character with several scenes in Darth Vader 2017, RotRB (2023) and the Inquisitors comic miniseries (2024)
only one on the list without a known name. snarky and flirty with targets. strained relationship with multiple coworkers.
9. Ninth Sister aka Masana Tide
Dowutin, age unknown and hard to estimate
joined the Inquisitorius involuntarily shortly after Order 66, through torture and mutilation
dies 10 years later, killed by her target
created for Darth Vader (2017) as a recurring character. part of the main cast in Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), shows up in Jedi: Survivor (2023), has a part in RotRB (2023) and Inquisitors (2024).
best empath of the Inquisitorius. snarky and jovial even with Darth Vader. very traumatized. keeps losing body parts.
13. Thirteenth Sister aka Iskat Akaris
joined voluntarily after flirting with the dark side for years and being groomed by Palpatine
21-year-old Knight at the time, pkorian (species created for her)
killed 5 years after joining by Vader for perceived disloyalty
created for Darth Vader 2017 issue 19 (2018), main character of novel Rise of the Red Blade (2023)
only inquisitor to have a boyfriend in canon. has a helmet she wears on missions but is pretty laid back about it. only gets her inquisitor name a while into her tenure, so her birth name is known to others.
+ Barriss Offee
former Jedi in Republic prison at the time of joining
agreed to get recruited a short while after Order 66, but left on her first mission after learning more about the organization, never got a proper inquisitor title
mirialan; age unknown but is around the age or slightly older than Ahsoka, 17 year old at the time; would have been 21 according to a non-canon reference book
has existed since 2002 as a background character in the prequels and their now non-canon tie-in novels, her short-lived inquisitor iteration was long rumored and introduced in Tales of the Empire (2024).

Stars Racing Past-3
Summary: Max teaches (Y/N) the first lesson every Jedi must learn, which turns into an exploratory trip around Coruscant.
A/N: Did I essentially make Logan my favorite Star Wars Jedi? Yes. Shoutout to anyone that has played Fallen Order and Survivor, you probably get what I'm putting down.
Series Masterlist
~~~
(Y/N) slept the best she had ever had that night in the Temple and she probably would have slept as long as she wanted to if Max hadn’t barged into her room and turned the lights on, interrupting her peaceful slumber.
“Wake up. It’s time to start training.” Max said as he somewhat gently shook her awake. (Y/N) tiredly rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she glanced at the window to try and gauge what time it was.
“The sun's not even out yet.” She whined, letting out a yawn.
“Perfect time to get a jumpstart on the day.” Max said, looking at her. “I expect you to be dressed and ready in 5 minutes.”
He then turned and left the room, shutting the door behind him.
Now a bit angry at being woken up so early, (Y/N) was tempted to lie back down and go back to sleep. But she decided against it, reluctantly getting out of bed and getting dressed.
(Y/N) put on a pair of tunic and pants, this time choosing to wear a robe as well to feel like a proper Jedi. Catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror, she smiled. Everything about her appearance made her look like a Jedi, except for one thing. (Y/N)’s mangled attempt of a braid stuck out on one side. She had learned that the braid that she saw Mick, Logan and Oscar wear were to show their status as padawans. Since (Y/N) was now a padawan, she had to have a braid in her hair as well. Except (Y/N) was never taught how to braid hair. She tried her best to weave a couple strands of hair into a bad mimic of a braid and hoped that it was passable.
“You ready?” Max asked as he opened the door once again.
“Yep!” (Y/N) said, following him out of the room.
The Temple was a lot quieter at this hour. Hardly anyone was roaming the halls as (Y/N) followed Max. And the people she did see only gave a slight nod of acknowledgement. (Y/N) expected Max would take her to one of the classrooms that Oscar and Logan had shown her yesterday, so she was a bit confused when they entered an elevator and Max pressed the highest button.
“So, what exactly are you gonna teach me today?” (Y/N) asked as the elevator rose.
“Just some basic stuff. Master Vettel told me that you’ve used The Force to grab objects before. That’s impressive for someone who’s never been trained.”
“Well it came in handy back at the repair shop.” (Y/N) mumbled. The elevator dinged and the doors parted. Stepping out, (Y/N) now saw that they had entered a somewhat rooftop garden at the top of the temple. The whole planet seemed to be laid out before her as (Y/N) looked out at the cityscape.
A planet that seemed so vibrant and busy when she first arrived, now seemed calm and dim as the sun started to peak out over the horizon.
“It’s nice and quiet up here.” (Y/N) said.
“I come up here to meditate.” Max said as he took a seat underneath a decorated awning with vines hanging off it. He motioned for (Y/N) to take a seat next to him and she obliged.
“Meditation is one of the main techniques Jedi use to connect with The Force. You’re allowing The Force to enter your body and make a connection.” Max explained. “Close your eyes and try to quiet your mind.”
(Y/N) watched as Max closed his eyes and took a deep breath, she then mirrored him as she tried to focus and start meditating. But after sitting there for what felt like 20 minutes, (Y/N) didn’t feel like she was in a meditative state. She tried to clear her mind as best as she could, but stray thoughts kept popping up.
“How long is this supposed to take?” (Y/N) asked, trying to keep her eyes closed.
“Could take minutes. Could take hours.” Max said. By this point (Y/N) had opened her eyes and saw that Max was in the same relaxed state when she had first closed her eyes. (Y/N) closed her eyes and tried to focus again on clearing her mind, but she became too focused on trying to stay focused that she just ended up getting frustrated with herself.
“I can’t do it!” (Y/N) exclaimed, letting out a frustrating sigh. Max opened his eyes and looked at his frustrated padawan. Max had already doubted his teaching capabilities, and now he was doubting them even more at (Y/N)’s frustration. Meditation was the first thing a padawan learns and Max thought it was the first thing he was supposed to teach (Y/N). But his current approach obviously wasn’t working.
“Let’s try something different.” He said. Max adjusted his placement to where he was now sitting five feet in front of (Y/N).
“Don’t focus on trying to clear your mind and letting the Force in. Instead, I want you to try to reach out through the Force and try to feel my presence in it.” Max explained “Do you think you can do that?”
(Y/N) nodded her head. It didn’t seem like a big ask, considering she probably did the same thing when trying to find Seb back on Tattoonie. (Y/N) watched Max close his eyes again and resume his meditation. She then took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
(Y/N) tried to mentally reach out through The Force. She instantly felt a connection and tried to hone in on it, feeling a presence in front of her. It was familiar and almost comforting. It was Max. Even though (Y/N) knew there was distance between them, it felt like Max was sitting right in front of her.
“I think…I think I did it.” (Y/N) quietly said. Max smiled, feeling the connection (Y/N) made.
“You did. Now instead of focusing on my presence, try to focus on your own. Do you feel the Force around you?”
(Y/N) nodded her head, but remembered that both of them had their eyes closed.
“Yes.”
“Focus on it.”
(Y/N) shifted her focus from Max to herself. In an instance her whole body seemed more energized as she connected with The Force. She felt it flowing through her hands and fingers, running all the way down to her legs.
Max opened his eyes, just to check to see how (Y/N) was doing, and he saw that the small specks of dirt and pebbles around her were floating a few inches off the ground. A small smile formed on his face at his padawan’s quick progress.
The two of them meditated until the sun had risen high over Courescant. (Y/N) hadn’t felt the time pass at all once she had focused on making a connection with The Force. She had expected the energized feeling to leave once Max called an end to their meditation session. But she was surprised that it had stayed with her after she opened her eyes.
“So are we just going to sit up here the whole day and meditate or are you going to teach me other stuff? Oh! Maybe you can teach me how to use one of those laser swords that I saw Seb and Kimi use.” (Y/N) said as she dusted dirt off her robe.
“You’re no way near prepared to learn how to use a lightsaber.” Max told her, offering a hand to help her stand. (Y/N) pouted but accepted his help up.
“Some stuff I will teach you will seem boring but it is essential.” Max said. “But we’re done with the boring stuff for today.”
“What now?”
Max looked out at the Courscant skyline. His eyes landed on a big building that could rival the Jedi Temple in terms of architecture.
“Well, I’ve been advised that I must keep your training to be inside The Temple. However not everything a Jedi learns or does is within these walls.” Max said, giving a mischievous grin to his padawan “And, what Seb doesn’t know won’t hurt him.”
(Y/N)’s face mirrored the mischief on Max’s face.
~~~
“If anyone asks us why we’re here, tell them we’re looking for Master Vettel.” Max whispered to (Y/N) as they walked into a very elaborate building. After boarding a shuttle from The Temple, Max told her that he was going to show her some parts of Coruscant. And the first place he decided to show her was the Senate Building.
“What are we doing here, exactly?” (Y/N) asked as the two of them walked past various people of different races and species. Most were dressed in well designed clothing.
“Sometimes the Jedi are asked to sit in on Senate meetings for either advice or input. Master Vettel is here all the time even though The Senate doesn’t always listen to his advice.” Max told her.
“That still doesn’t answer my question. Why are the two of us here specifically? Is sitting in a Senate meeting going to teach me something about being a Jedi?” (Y/N) asked. Max let out a chuckle.
“No, we won’t sit in on any meetings today. Though there may come a time where you may have to sit in on one or even give input. It depends on the matter. I think the meetings are boring from what little I’ve had to sit in on.” Max said. “I just thought it would be a good idea for you to see where all the big decisions that affect The Republic are made.”
(Y/N) looked around at the elaborate architecture and the fine clothes that people were wearing around her. (Y/N) couldn’t help but scowl a bit.
“All this fancy stuff for a big group of people that don’t seem to do much for the people that actually need help.” (Y/N) mumbled.
“I’m sorry?” Max looked at his padawan confused. (Y/N) was about to respond to him when an older gentleman with brown hair and fine burgundy robes approached the two.
“If it isn’t the famed Jedi Knight, Max Verstappen.” The man said, patting Max’s shoulder like they were old friends.
“Oh, hello Senator Horner. How are matters going?” Max asked, greeting the older man. The man, Senator Horner, smiled.
“It’s been a very eventful morning. As of this moment, I am no longer a Senator but am now the Supreme Chancellor of The Senate.” He said.
“Oh, congratulations! This seems so sudden though.”
“Well considering the previous Chancellor hadn’t been delivering what the people wanted ever since he was elected and issues with the Trade Federation have been mounting up to where there could be a full out war any day now, a vote of no confidence was called and I was elected Chancellor.” Chancellor Horner explained. He then noticed the younger padawan standing next to Max
“And who might you be?” Chancellor Horner asked, kneeling in front of (Y/N) and offering his hand for her to shake.
“I’m (Y/N). Max’s new padawan.” (Y/N) shook his hand and a look of surprise displayed on Chancellor Horner’s face. (Y/N) looked at him a bit confused.
“Forgive the surprise that’s on my face. Max has mentioned multiple times that he wouldn’t take on a padawan, but you seem to be an exception.” Chancellor Horner said. While his face did show a bit of shock, there was something else in his gaze that (Y/N) couldn’t quite name.
“With Max as your teacher, I’m sure you’ll soon make a fine Jedi. I shall watch your career with great interest. But for now I must attend to some matters as the new Supreme Chancellor. Farewell you two.” Chancellor Horner bade Max and (Y/N) goodbye before being swept up in conversation with another passing senator. (Y/N) watched him walk away but Max’s attention was drawn to a beautiful woman dressed in elegant white and purple robes. Her face was put in a nervous expression as she partially bit her lower lip. Max smiled.
“Senator Piquet!” Max called out, practically rushing over to the woman. “How are you?”
“Oh, Max! I’m surprised to see you here.” Senator Piquet smiled and greeted Max as (Y/N) hurried over to him.
“I’m showing my new padawan around Coruscant and thought to show her the Senate building.” Max said, placing a hand on (Y/N)’s shoulder and sort of ushering her forward.
“Hello. I’m Senator Kelly Piquet of Naboo. What’s your name?” Senator Piquet asked, holding out a hand for the girl to shake the same way Chancellor Horner did.
“I’m (Y/N).” The girl shook her hand. “Forgive me but you looked a little troubled, Senator.”
“Is it that obvious? My apologies. Matters from the recent meeting have made me question my decisions.” Senator Piquet said.
“What was the meeting about? We just heard from Senator Horner that he was just made Chancellor of the Senate.” Max said.
“That’s the matter that troubles me. I was convinced that calling a vote of no confidence was the right thing but now I feel like I may have doomed the senate. That I’ve failed the people of Naboo. I was only just elected and if my first action is one that causes harm, I don’t know how I could live with myself.” Senator Piquet explained.
“Well you won’t really know until time passes.” (Y/N) said.
“I suppose you're right. Besides, I can’t focus my worries on that decision now when the Trade Federation is still blocking trade to Naboo.”
“Any updates on the negotiations?” Max asked.
“No. I unfortunately received word from the Jedi Council that their attempt at negotiation didn’t go well either. If mine and the Jedi Council’s attempt at negotiations didn’t work, I don’t know what will get the Trade Federation to stop.”
“Why don’t both of you try to approach the Trade Federation to negotiate? If the Trade Federation is just one entity, then two should be better against one.” (Y/N) suggested.
“That is something I haven’t actually thought about.” Senator Piquet said. “You actually have a really good suggestion, (Y/N). I’ll have to meet with the governing body of Naboo first, but I’d like to attempt your idea.”
“If you do, I’d be happy to accompany you to the negotiations. For your protection” Max said. (Y/N) noticed blush start to slowly creep up on Max’s face.
“While I appreciate the offer Max, I can assure you that I can take care of myself.” Senator Piquet said. “I have to inform my fellow delegates about the recent Senate meeting now. But it was nice to chat with you and it was lovely to meet you (Y/N).”
“Have a lovely day, Senator Piquet.” Max said as he waved goodbye to the senator. He had an almost goofy grin on his face that (Y/N) noticed. She narrowed her eyes at him
“You seem to really like Senator Piquet.” She said. Max looked down at (Y/N) and shook his head to try and display disbelief. But it didn’t get rid of the blush on his cheeks.
“I do not.” He said. (Y/N) wore a teasing look.
“The hearts in your eyes tell me otherwise.” (Y/N) said. “That’s why you brought us here. Not to show me anything but so you can talk to Senator Piquet.”
“You’re being delusional.” Max said, ruffling his padawan’s hair before looking back at Senator Piquet. “Besides, the code forbids Jedi from having any romantic attachments."
(Y/N) watched as an older gentleman approached Senator Piquet and greeted her with a kiss. Max’s smile fell and his face hardened.
“She’s also married.” Max said, almost somberly as he stared at the man that now had his arm around the Senator. He turned around, not wanting to look at the scene anymore. (Y/N) looked for a bit longer, at the glowing faces of Senator Piquet and her husband, before she too turned around and looked at Max.
“Do you have a favorite place to go to in Coruscant?” She asked. Max nodded his head but didn’t say anything.
“Why don’t you show it to me.”
Max’s favorite place on Coruscant turned out to be a noodle shop in the middle level of the planet that Max claimed “served the best noodle dishes”. (Y/N) could agree with that statement as the dishes did taste delicious. They also seemed to improve Max’s mood, as he seemed relaxed and somewhat happy when they got back to The Temple.
“Remember, don’t tell anyone I took you out of the Temple.” Max whispered to (Y/N) as they walked through the entrance.
“I won’t say a thing.” (Y/N) promised him, crossing her heart for emphasis.
“Was today a good lesson?” Max asked.
“Yea. I think it was pretty good.” (Y/N) told him. Max smiled.
“Good. Tomorrow I want to assess your ability with using The Force to move objects like Seb told me you could do. Then…maybe I’ll teach you how to use a training saber.”
“Really?” Excitement spread across the girl’s face and she almost started bouncing on the balls of her feet.
“I said maybe. No guarantee.” Max said. “I’ll let you have the rest of the day to yourself. If you need me, I’ll be in the training room.”
“Ok, see you tomorrow Max!” (Y/N) waved and turned to leave, but something caught Max’s attention.
“Wait!” Max kneeled in front of (Y/N) and gently took her attempt of a braid in his hands. He undid it and braided the strands properly before tying it off with a hair band and a small yellow bead he had taken from his pocket.
“Sorry, but it’s been bugging me the whole day.” Max said. “That bead on the end is the same one I wore when I was a padawan.”
(Y/N) held the newly done braid in front of her face to get a good look at it. She stared at the bead and smiled before looking at Max.
“Thank you.” She said before heading back to her quarters.
~~~
KNOCK! KNOCK!
A knock at her door interrupted (Y/N)’s routine of getting ready for bed. She threw on her robe before opening her door to reveal Logan standing in front of her. Behind him, Oscar stood a few feet away.
“Hi Logan. Hi Oscar.” (Y/N) said, greeting the two boys. Oscar waved from behind Logan.
“Hey (Y/N). Me and Oscar are going to sneak up to the roof and watch the ships and speeders fly by. Do you want to join us?” Logan asked. His voice was quiet, almost like he didn’t want anyone nearby to hear what he was proposing.
“You’re talking like that’s not something we’re supposed to do.” (Y/N) whispered, matching Logan’s tone. She smiled. “I’m in!”
Logan and Oscar lead (Y/N) through a different route than the one her and Max took to get to the roof earlier this morning. Going up a set of stairs, the three padawans emerged onto a different part of the temple roof that (Y/N) had not seen before. This part gave a perfect view of the skyway filled with bustling ships and speeders driving past. The various lights from the ships, speeders, and neon billboards lit up the night sky, almost to the point where it was hard to see the stars. At least from this part of the city.
“Think there will be any new ones tonight?” Oscar asked as he leaned over the railing.
“I heard there was a big Senate meeting today so there might be some ships from other planets.” Logan said. He squinted at one of the many skyways before his face lit up.
“Aha! That’s an RE60. You don’t see those types of ships often on Coruescant.” Logan had pointed to a yellow, black, and white speeder ship that seemed to not want to be stuck in the traffic that it was in.
“Oh, there’s an A522. Those ships were always coming for repairs back on Tattoonie.” (Y/N) said as she pointed out a pink and blue freight ship.
“Do you know a bit about ships and speeders?” Oscar asked. (Y/N) couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.
“I worked at a repair and spare parts shop before I came here. Of course I know a bit about ships and speeders.” (Y/N) told him.
“What’s your favorite model then? I personally like the FW46 speeder.” Logan said.
“Mate that speeder hasn’t been performing well from what I’ve heard. Now the MCL60? That’s where it’s at in terms of good speeders.” Oscar said.
“I think you’re both wrong. The best speeder is the SF24.” (Y/N) said. The three padawans started to argue about the better models of ships and speeders. It almost got pretty heated until the three’s attention was drawn to someone speeding past the various skyways with sentry droids chasing it.
“That person’s driving like a maniac.” (Y/N) mumbled.
“That’s how it is on Coruscant.” Logan told her as he gestured with his hand to the skyways in front of them. (Y/N)’s eyes were drawn to Logan’s gloves. They seemed out of place to the regular garb she, Oscar and others were wearing around the temple.
“Can I ask, what’s with the gloves?” (Y/N) said. Logan looked down at his gloves with a bit of nervousness and (Y/N) thought that she may have crossed a line. “You don’t have to tell me, I’m just a bit curious.”
Logan shook his head and the nervousness went away.
“No, it’s ok. I’ve got a…unique ability where if I touch something, I can see it’s past.” Logan said.
“No way! That’s so cool!” (Y/N) exclaimed.
“Really?” Logan seemed a bit shocked at the girl’s amazement.
“Yea! You can see the history of an object! You could see what it’s been through or how it was made!” (Y/N) said. “Do the gloves help with that?”
“Well the gloves actually help dampen my psychometry. That’s what Master Albon calls it.” Logan said. He watched a speeder fly past before speaking again.
“When I first came to The Order, everything I touched I would get a vision from it, it was very overwhelming. Now, depending on the object, I could still get a vision from it even with the gloves on. But I’m working on trying to choose when I have these visions so that I’m not just hit with a vision on immediate touch.” Logan explained.
“That sounds really interesting.” (Y/N) said before turning to Oscar. “What about you Oscar? Do you have any unique abilities?”
“Nah. Not that I’m aware of anyway. But I’m still just a padawan and I’m still learning so who knows. Maybe I’ll discover something while I’m training under Master Norris.” Oscar said. Then he turned to (Y/N) “How bout you?”
“I don’t think I have any special abilities. I mean…Sebastian, well I guess I need to call him Master Vettel now, he said that he thinks I could be an exceptional Jedi. But when he was talking with The Council, they mentioned that he thinks I’m “The Chosen". Whatever that means.” (Y/N) explained.
“Seems like Master Vettel has high expectations for you. Who did they assign to be your teacher?” Logan asked.
“Max. Uh, Master Vestappen is I guess how he’s known but he wants me to just call him Max because he felt weird being addressed by the title of “Master””(Y/N) said. Both boys looked at her with shock.
“What?!”
“Get out. They gave you Verstappen?”
“Is he a good teacher?” (Y/N) asked them.
“Beats me. He’s never been assigned a padawan but he’s also the youngest padawan to be promoted to a Jedi Knight.” Oscar told her.
“When was he promoted?” (Y/N) asked.
“Two years ago, when he was 14. The Council must have really big expectations for you if they gave you Verstappen.” Logan said. (Y/N)’s happy mood seemed to start to sour a bit. She already knew that Seb had high expectations of her and she already assumed Max was somewhat of a big deal in The Temple. But the fact that he was the youngest padawan to become a Jedi Knight, and he was assigned to be her teacher, what does that say for the expectations The Council had for (Y/N). She tried not to think about it, instead focusing back on trying to name ships with Logan and Oscar. For right now, they were just padawans enjoying the night skyline.
But they weren’t the only ones up late. Back in the temple, Seb was meeting with some of his fellow Jedi Masters.
“I do agree with you that your encounter with a Sith is cause for worry.” Master Webber said as they sat in the council room. Currently the council was discussing Seb and Kimi’s encounter with the Sith back on Tatoonie and how to go about handling the matter.
“I think we should be concerned about the growing dark side activity I’ve encountered on previous missions. None of it seemed to connect to one another, but the amount of it is questionable.” Kimi said. “I think the Sith we encountered was a part of it.”
“If it does seem like the Sith are coming back, I think we should stop this matter for it even has a chance to see the light of day.” Master Hamilton said.
“How do we go about this then?” Master Button asked. “If the Sith have been hiding for this long, they’re not going to be easy to find.”
“Well we know what caused the Sith to appear on Tatoonie.” Master Webber said, looking at Seb. Seb looked at Master Webber with a quizzical look.
“I hope you're not implying what I think you’re implying.” Seb said.
“It seems like our only known option to lure the Sith out.”
“You want to use (Y/N) as bait?” Seb asked, disbelief at the own words that had to come out of his mouth
“If it means we can lure a potential Sith out of hiding and stop whatever they may be planning before it even starts, then yes.” Master Webber said.
“How exactly would you go about that? She just started her training with no real means to defend herself if something were to happen!” Seb exclaimed. “There has to be another way.”
“We wouldn’t have her be by herself, that’s ridiculous. She’d at least have Knight Verstappen with her.” Master Rosberg said. “If we wait any longer, it just gives the Sith and whoever they may be working with to properly plan something, if they haven’t already.”
“I think we may already have a possible plan that could work.” Kimi said. Everyone’s attention turned to him.
“Senator Piquet reached out to us. About the possibility of both the Jedi Order and Naboo jointly trying to negotiate with the Trade Federation. I think this could serve as a possibility for us to also lure out our Phantom.” Kimi proposed.
“What do you mean?”
“I think that the Phantom was a part of the group of ships that chased us down the first time we tried to negotiate. Which means the phantom that was after (Y/N) is working with the Trade Federation.” Kimi said.
“That would put both Senator Piquet and (Y/N) in possible danger.” Seb said.
“Not if we anticipate the danger. Senator Piquet will have her guards and Kimi and Seb, you can go in and be part of the negotiations. We’ll ask Verstappen to come along as extra protection for the Senator and that brings (Y/N) along with him.”
“What you’re proposing is unbelievable.” Seb said, disgust lacing his voice.
“But it can assure peace for both us and the Republic.” Master Webber. “All those in favor of this plan?”
Seven hands with up, including Kimi’s.
“All those opposed.”
Seb’s hand was the only one raised.
“It is decided then on how we will tackle this matter of The Sith.”
Seb left the meeting with disbelief and disgust at the Council’s decision. He knew this was a bad idea. No matter how much he will mediate on the matter later, Seb couldn’t shake the feeling that something would go wrong.
Jedi Survivor impressed me so, so much. I loved Fallen Order, but I genuinely feel like Survivor was on another level. A few things I loved, full game spoilers ahead...
Cal genuinely feels so much older and more mature. It's incredible how much his interactions with the Mantis crew feel like a wayward adult son coming home again after a long time away.
Cal and Merrin's romance was beautifully built up and paid off, felt totally natural. Importantly for me, it required both of them to move the needle; Merrin to definitively make the first move and let Cal know she wants him, and Cal to finally acknowledge that he wants her too, that he isn't really a Jedi and that they weren't right about everything.
Cal using the Dark Side is portrayed as dangerous, but not inherently evil. The game does not vilify or punish Cal for using it, in fact, it does the opposite; it essentially says that it was necessary for Cal to embrace his darkness in order for him to survive. Importantly, it shows that even the darkness can be controlled; when Cal first uses it on Nova Garon, he nearly loses himself in it, but Merrin calls him back. When he uses it again on Tanalorr, he is in complete control of it, calmly using it to lift Bode off of him and partially disarming him before letting it subside. Merrin's final monologue to Kata in the ending says it all; your pain, your loss, it will always be a part of you. But it doesn't have to define you. Both Dagan and Bode let their pain and loss consume their entire lives, and it led directly to their respective ends.
When Cal kills Bode, he does so quietly and with no anger, and only after offering him multiple chances to surrender, all of which he rejected violently. Cal killed Bode not out of vengeance, but because it was clear that Bode was beyond reason. He was never going to stop. He was never going to accept any outcome other than the one that he had decided was best. And even then, Cal quietly takes a moment alone to mourn him, and respectfully gives him a Jedi funeral alongside his two mentors.
The entire final chapter is such a beautiful contrast to the first game's. Fallen Order had you storming Fortress Inquisitorious, fighting hoards of the game's hardest enemies and concluded with a bombastic escape sequence. The atmosphere was alternately oppressive, tense and exciting, full of mechanical reds and blacks. Tanalorr is the complete opposite; it is quiet and calm, an organic place of white rocks and blue plants. There are no enemies there other than Bode, a man whose paranoia has isolated him from everyone in his life, including the daughter he supposedly loves so much. When you find him, he is not even with her. When you beat him, there is no bombast. This is not a victory to be celebrated; it is a tragedy, one that you tried to avoid, but was seemingly inevitable.
"Ghost Star," the lullaby you hear Kata singing as you approach the final battle, is so stunningly beautiful and thematically appropriate that I am appalled there wasn't a full orchestral version of it playing over the credits.
So yeah, there's probably some other stuff I'll post about later, but man, Survivor really kinda blew me away.
So I just played and loved Jedi Fallen Order, and I’m now moving on to Survivor. Great games, lots of fun, it felt a lot like I was playing KotOR if admittedly different and a bit shorter. But as I begin looking at the fanfiction and the tags, it’s interesting to me that so much of the fanfic is based around Cal time-traveling back to the Clone Wars when to me the most interesting part of his narrative was the ways he learned to move on from and accept the fall of the Jedi Order.
I know that Clone Wars is one of the setting’s best sandboxes to play in fic-wise, but the fic I keep imagining in my head is one where Cal survives till the end of the Empire and reaches out to Luke to work with him on what the future of Force-sensitives in the galaxy should look like. I’ll have to get through Jedi Survivor to see how that idea plays with canon, but I feel like his (spoilers) relationship with Merrin and access to the Zeffo vault gives him a really interesting opportunity to build a new organization— not a repeat of the Jedi Order as it fell, but a blending of multiple different traditions of Force users who find a new path together.
I don’t know enough about all the canon these days to write that fic (I don’t have any idea what’s going on with Ahsoka and whether she should be involved, for example) but the bones of it in my head are really interesting. Not least because I think the Cal in my head might disagree with Luke? I think Luke, at the end of the original trilogy, has a really idealized view of the Jedi in his head— which is fine when he’s the only Jedi around, because he is the ideal Jedi! But I think it might blind him to the potential flaws involved in rebuilding the Jedi order (which is supported by the sequel trilogy, although that’s barely canon to me).
Cal, on the other hand, has learned the major lesson of “failure is part of the journey”, and seen how it applies to structures as well as people. He’s seen the fall of the Jedi, and learned about the similar fall of two other Force-using societies. He understands that it’s important to build new things, but also that you have to learn and change from the lessons of the past. I think if he rebuilt something, it would be a very different organization than the Jedi Order. And it would be interesting to explore what that looked like.
Hi! So I am relatively new to the Jedi games but became so quickly and deeply obsessed, and seeing another user send you a headcanon has inspired me to share one too, because I have no one I can talk about this stuff with IRL, haha. I guess a warning that it's kinda nsfw (like, VERY mildly), so it's TOTALLY okay if you don't want to post this.
Ever since finishing the game I've been thinking so much about Merrin and Cal and how their relationship will change now that they've admitted and embraced the fact that they have feelings for each other. Part of me for a while was thinking maybe Cal had his "first time" with someone he met through the Rebellion in the five-ish years between Fallen Order and Survivor, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt that it would be more in character for him to uphold the part of the Jedi code that forbids romantic attachments. Like, he was just so focused on fighting the Empire that even when a slight interest in a person did arise within him, he convinced himself that it was not only against the code, but a distraction from the fight. So, he pushed all those feelings away.
This leads me to my headcanon that Cal's first time is with Merrin after the events of Survivor. While I don't have lots of specifics in mind as to when or how it comes about, I imagine that when it does happen, it is the softest, slowest, sweetest first time in the history of first times. I like the idea of Cal, this person who dives headfirst into everything and (as Cameron once said himself) "kind of likes to fight," just being incredibly thoughtful and deliberate and maybe even nervous about allowing himself to be that vulnerable with another person. Like, all these powerful emotions and powerful physical feelings would be overcoming him, and the sheer magnitude of it all would cause him to slow down and ask Merrin to lead the way, and he'll follow, so that he knows he's not hurting her or taking things too fast.
And Merrin, who is always ribbing him and teasing him and having silly banter about who's stronger, who's faster, etc., abandons all of that during their first time and is just purely kind, patient, attentive, and present with him, taking pleasure in taking the lead and cherishing the trust that he's put in her. And when it's over, I like to think they just lay together talking quietly for who knows how long, with Cal holding Merrin tight against him and Merrin tracing her fingers along his skin, maybe along his tattoo or his scars, while they tell each other stories and pretend like they'll never have to get up and leave this wondrous place <3
My offline Star Wars community is pretty small, so it's nice to have people on here to share ideas with :) So glad you enjoy the Jedi games!!
There's a lot of narrative weight to Cal and Merrin: the Nightsister massacre being led by a lightsaber (Grievous), the manipulation from Malicos, the Jedi views of attachment and dark magick. They're both survivors of a war that destroyed their families, and they take turns helping each other heal and grow.
Almost every main character in FO/Survivor is a foil to Cal in some way - but unlike all these fallen Jedi, Merrin looks to the future and finds new purpose while still honoring her past. I think that's something Cal really admires in her.
I love the trust and steadiness that they have together regardless of romantic attraction. Admittedly I haven't read Battle Scars and didn't go into Survivor wanting a relationship for Cal, so I may not be the best person to share intimacy headcanons with?? But I'm supportive of the story Respawn wants to tell, and recognize the weight/importance of their connection when it comes to Jedi 3. These tags on my recent post are kind of where I'm at:
Also Star Wars is very much lacking in the "healthy relationship that LASTS and no one DIES" department so if these two can break the trend, that'd be great 🙌
#my favorite photomode shots tie into Survivor's narrative while also pushing the limits of the in-game idle animations#and these Cal/Merrin shots are super hard to make so it's a fun challenge! I can practice lighting and composition and storytelling!#but I also recognize that ship-adjacent posts do generally receive more attention#and want to make sure I'm not just creating stuff for likes - but to post what I care about and enjoy making#really sorry for going off-topic on your ask haha#I've been wrestling with this lately#also very thankful for gen fic writers in the FO/Survivor community <3#asks#jedi survivor#cal kestis#merrin#nightsister merrin
On a brighter note, I recently beat Star Wars Jedi Survivor, and it is an awesome game. Even though the game runs a bit like crap at times, and the level traversal seems like they're artificially padding out the game length in some parts, the story is top notch with top notch characters. Cal Kestis is still the best new Jedi character to come out of the franchise in recent years, and I can't wait for the third game to come out. Disney really needs to bring Cal Kestis into live action along with Merin. The character of Merin is how you do a strong female without going woke. If you have the time, check out the Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, you won't be disappointed.
Things I want in the Third Game about Cal Kestis
Set it in 4 BBY
Let another 5 years pass between the games. Felt appropriate last time. It makes it credible that things have properly changed between the games and ages everyone so that a new chapter can take place.
Force Sensitive Kata
While I’m all about the Force not following bloodlines (unless you’re a Skywalker) and instead appearing in anyone, the complicated relationship Kata would have with the Jedi because of her dad and because of Cal has the potential for such a good story
Cal as Kata’s Jedi Master
Following in the previous point. Kata would be learning from the man who killed her dad, and he would be teaching the daughter of the man who betrayed him. So much potential angst.
Also wonderful gameplay potential. She could be a temporary companion who can help you, but she would also be someone you’d have to worry about. She’d be an itty bitty 12-14 year old. Perfect for a Padawan (I can’t tell how old she is in Survivor. Can’t be over ten because of the timeline. Feels older than 6 with how she talks)
Cal Struggling to be Kata’s Master
Again continuing. Cal would see Bode in Kata and no matter how he would try to not let it happen, I think it would make him unfair to her at times. He’d struggle with being a master regardless of who is the apprentice, remembering his worries from before he found the holocron with the list of Force Sensitive younglings, worrying about how teaching anyone about the Force puts a target on their back. He’d worry about knowing enough to teach. He never formally completed his own training. How can he be anyone’s master?
Quinlan Vos
Need I say more? The Kenobi series put Quinlan with the Hidden Path in 9 BBY which is when Survivor takes place. Obviously he needs to meet Cal. And he should mentor Cal. They have so much in common! They share the rare ability of psychometry. They have an affinity for Dathomiri Night Sisters. They’ve both touched the dark side. It obviously needs to happen!
The Hidden Path on Tanalorr
The Hidden Path should be established on Tanalorr. It should be bustling with people living their best lives. There should be plenty of untrained Force Sensitive people. There should be a handful of Jedi too. Precious survivors.
The Nihil Attacking
The Nihil attacked Tanalorr in the time of the High Republic. They should do it again and ruin everything.
The Empire as the Main Antagonist
While I want the Nihil to be a problem, I would prefer it as an inciting incident rather than as something that takes up a significant part of the game. The Empire is the true enemy and should be treated as such. It could be that Tanalorr is attacked early in the game and the rest of the objective is to keep everyone who now has to go on the run, safe from the Empire.
Consequences Because of Cal’s Relationship with Merrin
Cal deciding to get together with Merrin in Survivor is treated as a good thing (so romantic!) and she is obviously so good for him (sarcasm) because she pulled him back from the Dark Side, but that’s not the Jedi Way, and (I’d argue) not how the Force Works. A strong romantic relationship requires putting your partner first. A Jedi can’t do that. You can’t have both, and I want Cal to be a Jedi. So, he gets consequences.
We’ve already seen him struggling with his attachments. He was attached to Cere. He was attached to Bode. He was attached to Tanalorr and the future he wanted to build there. Losing it all, made him angry.
If he builds a stronger relationship with Merrin, I’m saying it would lead to an attachment and then if something threatens her, he’d get afraid. If something happens to her, he’d get angry. And after, he could turn to hate.
If we need another Jedi romance, let Cal follow in Anakin and Bode’s footsteps. I wanna see the consequences!
Rematch with Darth Vader
Cal got to bat his saber once against Vader’s in Fallen Order and defiantly refuse him the Holocron.
Cere got a full duel with the Sith Lord in Survivor.
It’s Cal’s turn now. He should be fighting to save someone or something. Perhaps stalling. Perhaps becoming overconfident and thinking he can end the Dark Lord.
I’m not sure if I think Cal should die by Vader’s hand or not. I’d love for him to stay alive, to make it past the end of the Empire and possibly make it to live-action. Realistically though he should be killed, and he deserves to go out against the worst of the worst.
i would love to hear your thoughts about droids in star wars!
Aww thank you!! They're not super extensive, alas, but I do have a few parts that are important to me!
First of all, you're right. Droids are 101 percent treated as less important in most Star Wars media. R2 didn't even get a medal for the Death Star plans situation, for heaven's sake! And they're usually treated as expendable or less important or, often times, just annoyances. It's kinda sad, honestly
But! There are actually a handful of times this isn't true and I love them very much! For instance, L3 from Solo. Lando seems to dismiss her a little at first, but it becomes clear that he pretty much couldn't get by without her. And his reaction to her death is just as devastated as he would be over a human crew member (although there's still plenty of examples of the, for lack of a better word, droid discrimination in this movie.). She also leads a droid rebellion, which I think is very cash money of her
Then there's Chopper-- he's kinda in the middle, but it's very clear that Hera views him as a member of the crew, and treats him exactly how she would treat any other of her kids. When Zeb gambles him away in season one, he gets in Huge Trouble (and honestly, that's fair)
OH OH and B2EMO in Andor!! After his owner, Maarva, dies, the other people in the community (namely my main man Brasso, the myth the legend himself) take care of him and look after him and treat him like a grieving family member! It's super wholesome!
But, I'd say the best example of droids being treated fairly and like equals in Star Wars? CLEARLY BD-1 and Cal Kestis in Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. He becomes fond of BD really quickly, and by the end of the game it's clear that Cal values BD just as much as any of his other crew members! The game shows them chatting and even telling jokes at one point (seriously, that's some of my favorite dialogue in the first game) and he confides in BD in a way that he doesn't with the others. And whenever BD is missing, or injured, Cal gets super worried for him! (there's this one scene in Jedi: Survivor where he calls for him and is all "BD! BD-1!" and I SWEAR it has "parent using the middle name on their kid" vibes, I love it so much)
Long story short, I mainly wanted to rant about how much I love BD-1 and Cal's relationship, but you're right! Even in Chopper and L3's cases, I can think of times they are treated with a little dismissal. But they are also loved and valued, and regarded as important members of their crew
#thanks for the ask!!#yeah this was a long rant#long post#but i enjoyed writing it!#bd 1#cal kestis#jedi survivor#jedi fallen order#(i haven't actually finished survivor but so far the cal and bd content is KILLING me.#everyone treats him like a member of the team! and cal is very protective and loving!#and bd is the only member of his original crew that stays with him through everything. so make of that what you will)#(can you tell bd-1 is my favorite droid of all time?)#chopper swr#swr#b2emo#andor series#l3-37#solo a star wars story#star wars
i said I wasn't gonna complain about the star wars video game
And yet, HERE WE GO.
Spoilers for the video game Star Wars: Jedi Survivor and it's prequel, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order under the cut. I'm only like...7 or 8 hours in Survivor, though, so don't spoil me, either.
how do the people who make star wars keep making these stupid ass plots?
I realize part of star wars is to embrace the silly, but this is just as bad if not worse than the Rey Palpatine and "somehow Palpatine returned" shit from the sequel trilogy.
how do I write for star wars? I mean, seriously. THIS was the best villain they came up with? A guy from the Old Republic (who was kept alive in a BACTA TANK somehow even though being FROZEN IN CARBONITE IS A LEGIT THING IN STAR WARS!!!!!!!) (who, again, has no connection at all to the current crisis nor any of the characters) wakes up, immediately falls to the dark side, and oh, it turns out the bad guys of this place work for him? somehow???
holy shit that is bad. as in, poorly written. that is the best villain they came up with? SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE who worked at this game studio saw that idea and went "yeah that's a good one!" and gave it a stamp of approval????
If I were Cal I would have quit right there. I would have leaped off the cliff to my death. I would have found a small child, given them my lightsaber and said "You'll probably be better at this than me, good luck." I would have shut myself off from the Force. I'd abandon my quest and then just left to find Merrin and say "hey can I be your househusband? Being a jedi is just not for me, I think."
ESPECIALLY considering how GOOD the Second Sister was written in the first game!!!! what a flipping downgrade.
in good news though, guess who I just ran into again
i cannot wait for her and Cal to get married and have a trio of red haired witch daughters.
Heyo. I'm an admirer of your Gale stuff on AO3, but I noticed you make a lot of Cal/Merrin stuff and I just got Jedi Fallen Order and I'm SO HYPED for them even if it'll take me a million years because I'm so mid at video games. But! This is just me telling you that I'm really excited to get to the Cal/Merrin part of your catalogue, even if the point where I'll be reading them is who knows how long into the future. Have a good one!
Omg, this is so nice, thank you so much for telling me! I'm glad you enjoy the Gale fics, there are definitely going to be be at least a few more in the near(ish) future. 💜
And I'm so excited for you to play Fallen Order and Survivor! They're such fun games, so emotionally satisfying and the performances are fantastic. I played on story mode the first time I went through it and definitely recommend that if difficulty is a concern, it doesn't take away from the experience at all imo! And all the Merrical fic will be waiting for you whenever you're ready - I'm so honored that you want to read mine but there truly are some amazing writers in the Fallen Order/Survivor fandom, so I'm very excited for you to get to discover all of them, too. 🥰🧡 Have the best time playing!
My 10 Favorite Games of 2023 (Part 1/#10-6)
10.Rytmos [PC/Switch/iOS/Android]
A puzzle game that's less about challenge, and more about meditation and euphonic appreciation. This game is at once museum, fidget toy and music box all in one.
9.Cocoon [PS4/5, Xbox One, Series X/S, PC]
The spiritual successor to Limbo and Inside has some of the most inventive mechanics of 2023. Having worlds themselves be literal puzzle mechanics is unheard of. Better yet, Cocoon takes that core concept to mind-blowing peaks.
8.Diablo IV [PS4/5, Xbox One, Series X/S, PC]
Diablo IV may be an RPG, but underneath everything, it's truly a blade sharpening simulator. How deadly can you make your character? How efficiently can you do hilariously high damage? These questions will drive you for 60 hours with an addictive loop that keeps slamming your reward center. The numbers go up, the hours go up.
7.Jedi Survivor [PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC]
Jedi Survivor makes Fallen Order look like an audition. Massively upgraded level design, better platforming, better combat, better characters. More really can be better.
6.Hi-Fi Rush [Xbox Series S/X, PC]
One of the best surprise releases ever, Hifi Rush is a turbocharged PS2 game in the best way. Mashing rhythm game into a DMC action is a great elevator pitch and it's an even better game in practice. Hi-Fi is absolutely lightening bottled with disarming sincerity, consistently excellent design and incredible music curation.
i don't think i've seen you talk about jedi fallen order! such a cool game. probably my favorite recent sw story. did you check out jedi: survivor? (i haven't yet!)
I briefly talked about it when I was explaining why I liked Kenobi as SW-inspired TV but not as actual Star Wars, but yeah, I haven't discussed it all that much! It's an excellent game and has a really enthralling story.
(I do find it difficult to reconcile w/ the films, as I do most of Legends and Disney SW, so it's not really part of my personal experience of the central SW narrative. But it's a great story and game in its own right.)
I haven't checked out Jedi: Survivor yet! My best friend's console is really old and can't play it, but we're saving up for a new one. :)
Reflecting on Star Wars Celebration 2023
For 2023, Star Wars Celebration was held in London, England, part of Europe. Fans had a blast, whether they actually attended in person wearing cosplay or just regular clothes, or tuned into the live broadcasts on the Star Wars Youtube channel. Like last year in 2022, there were a lot of surprises and awesome guests, but 2023 had a lot of special moments and emotional responses. The hosts of each panel also need some appreciation, I loved the energy and relatable moods they brought to each day. In this post, I’ll recap some of the amazing highlights of each celebration day, and share my thoughts on the panels I attended while tuning into the lives at home.
Starting off with Day 1, the excitement was at the top-level. Considering it was in London, the live started at 5 AM for me where I live. So I definitely did not get any sleep, but it was worth it. The Ahsoka series got the most recognition of the day with the teaser trailer dropping to all the fans. I woke up to the trailer being posted and immediately watched it, trying not to scream so loudly. Rebels fans were truly getting fed with the new live-action debuts of Hera, Sabine, Ezra, Thrawn, and Chopper. The Acolyte cast were given introductions, and I had no idea that a star from Squid Game (Lee Jung-jae) was going to be in it. I’m really excited to see more of this show. The Making of Andor was discussed with a few of the cast members and creators there, and Diego Luna really highlighted what Andor means to a personal level. Season 2 is in the making, and that will be something worth looking forward to. The next Star Wars films were also announced, and Dave Filoni’s directing one??? Let’s see what he has in store for us.
Day 2 included just as much fun as the first day had. There were more discussions on the Ahsoka characters, and Lars Mikkelsen IS PLAYING THRAWN?! Definitely a good live-action casting choice. Ming-Na Wen came to celebration to host the panel celebrating 40 years of Return of the Jedi, looking back at the characters and how that movie’s plot set up a lot of iconic memories. She also came to an interview to discuss her character, Fennec Shand, and how she is a “badass”. Andy Serkis came to the stage and certainly incited a powerful audience (”ONE WAY OUT!”). It’s unbelievable how it’s already been 15 years of The Clone Wars, with Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, and Ashley Eckstein looking back at the legacy of all of it. Ian McDarmid served the iconic laughter of Palpatine, and Anthony Daniels arrived with his usual charm that makes C-3PO lovable, and got to meet one of his droid fans. Billy Dee William’s charm is irresistible, and we love to see Star Wars authors getting recognition.
In Day 3, there was a lot more looking back to look forward to. Starting off with the panel celebrating a few of the villains of the Sequels-Phasma, Snoke, and Palpatine-it was interesting to hear their perspectives. Cameron Monaghan served his look on the stage while rocking a poncho, and we love to hear the discussions about ponchos. He even gave it to a cosplaying fan, which was so sweet. Discussing “Jedi Survivor”, the sequel to “Jedi: Fallen Order”, there’s a lot more action to look forward to in the next game. Vivien Lyra Blair is just too adorable, and we have to agree with Hayden Christhansen; “This is where the fun begins” is one of the best Anakin lines. Along with Ewan McGregor and a few other cast members and creators, the team looks back at the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, getting nostalgia between the relationship of Obi-Wan and Anakin.
And finally, Day 4 was sad as it was to be the last day of celebration, but the energy was extra hyped this day. This day was filled with content of The Bad Batch, and we love to see everyone fangirling over Dee Bradley Baker performing the voices of a few clones. (Tech and Phee are canon now after they talked about it, you can’t change my mind.) Michelle Ang is so pure at heart, and we love to hear her takes on Omega and having her grow up a bit. The fact that Season 3 will be the last Bad Batch season is saddening, there’s still so much to discover. Ashley Eckstein is truly such a kind human being, and we love to see her giving the Ahsoka recognition that is truly deserved. A second season of Tales of the Jedi was announced, and we will be getting a Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions, and I am in love with the animation. The fact that the studio who produced the film “Wolfwalkers” is getting to create a short in this makes me happy. Listen, Nubs, that little jedi from that upcoming Disney Junior show, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, is so CUTE! The closing ceremony was filled with a lot of emotions, but we can’t wait until the next celebration to see everyone again. Star Wars Celebration is truly home.
My first celebration was back in 2022, and I had attended that one through the lives at home as well. Whenever I sit down to attend the live streams, I really feel like I’m there at celebration, and I have tons of fun every time. Let’s look forward to enjoying ourselves again in 2025 in Japan!
So. For those who know how I am...severe procrastination, loss of motivation and so on...feel free to ignore me rant in a moment.
For those that don't, BE MY GUEST IN THIS IDEA. : D
Cal Kestis Fanfic.
I am jumping on the bandwagon like...way too late, with Survivor about to be dropped any week now (and tbh, I prefer Fallen Order Kestis...older Cal isn't my Cal.). But I only just recently have been blessed with enough money for a Gaming Laptop, my very first, and Fallen Order was on Sale, I am a Star Wars fan, so it had to be done.
To my Fanfic idea:
Cal runs a mission on (currently still unnamed planet), runs across a sudden spike in enormous Force Energy, for like...a split second, but even that was enough to take his attention off his initial target (He sees weird stuff or chest, he goes for it, Magpie Cal)
The Empire ofc also notices that and is on the Force Sensitive in minutes, causing Cal to run into a wall of Stormtroopers.
In an act of "safe the idiot from getting himself killed", they end up as a team for his mission Yada Yada Yada.
Goes on for a for a while, she joins the Mantis Crew, I might, depending on my mood, skip a big part of that bonding time since that ISN'T the main attraction.
It is...Inquisitor Cal Kestis. Yes I know, I am so original, give me an Oscar rn...
The main Character is already a more neutral Force Sensitive, to a point she doesn't just question the Dark Side, but also the Light, the one she's supposed to serve. But that's something she keeps in her background monolog, never let's anybody openly know until later.
She's basically a Grey Jedi...well, Padawan. They both were never knighted before the Purge after all.
Anyway yeah, tldr:
Begins as Basic Cal Kestis x Force Sensitive OC
Ends in a chaos of "What is even right anymore?" Inquisitor Cal Kestis x Inquisitor OC
I will try to add Smut, if we even get that far
NEWCOMERS, DO NOT LOOK AT MY FORMER WORK. DO NOT SPOIL YOURSELF FOR THE MISERY THAT HAS TO ULTIMATELY HAPPEN.
EDIT FEW SECONDS AFTER POSTING:
I am literally hanging myself on ONE song for my obsession, so it would probably fit best to listen to while reading (if I make something)
In the name of Love
Both the normal version and the slowed one. Gives me tingles for my pairing.
MY THOUGHTS ON AHSOKA - Part 1 "Master and Apprentice" & Part 2 "Toil and Trouble"
(ok let's do this again, bc I posted the previous post before I was finished by mistake, and the power went out right at that moment which means I had no Wi-Fi to fix it 😣😣)
The first thing I can say is that I liked this premiere a lot, but it didn't blow my mind to smithereens. It was a pretty decent start and I can see the potential, I'm invested. But I'd rather remain cautious for the moment. I don't want to hype myself too much, fearing a big disappointment down the road.
There were surprises (very good surprises), some confirmations of things I suspected or have seen others speculating about, and a thing or 2 that I'm iffy about. and also I liked the pace. It's not too slow, nor too fast. It seems deliberated, and I think that's a good thing.
Let's dive into the details…
Part 1 - Master and apprentice
Watching a New Republic transport losing yet again a prisoner, makes me think the NR needs to work on this problem. Because so far, there've been 4 different prisoner breakouts that we know of (2 of those were the same guy!!)
Ahsoka in the ancient temple looking for the map was cool. I love the video game treasure hunt/solve the puzzle kind of feel about it (it made think about Jedi fallen order/survivor). And Huyang roasting Ahsoka for not having a padawan with her was the best.
I loved the subtle hint that Ahsoka made about Morgan Esbelth hiring mercenaries in the past (AKA: Din. I wonder if he could have a small cameo)
My first reaction to Hera believing that Ezra is dead was shock, especially since in the Rebels finale seemed that she knew he was just lost not dead, but after thinking about it, it does make sense. First, because she never had the confirmation that he was actually alive. There's no trace of him or Thrawn in the galaxy (we learned why later), and second, and maybe more importantly, it's much easier to continue living on with a loved one's death than a disappearance. The not-knowing, the constant yearning can be exhausting. With death come pain, but eventually with healthy grieving you should accept it and move on.
Omg! I can't believe Ryder Azadi and Jai Kell were there!! And the mural’s dedication to Ezra 😭😭😭😭 I love that everyone still have him so present even after all this time 💕💕
Sabine is commander, huh? Nice! But the fact that she wasn't in the ceremony doesn't surprise me at all.
Her Loth cat is the most adorable thing ever. I want one!!!
That Morgan Elsbeth being a Nightsister wasn't the biggest surprise for me, bc I had seen people speculating about. In fact, I like the idea of another surviving Nightsister. My only nickpicking about this is that her skin is too pink for a Witch of Dathomir. I guess she's either half-human/half-zabrak, or she's using some cloaking spell on herself.
Ezra's message just for Sabine 😭😭😭
(I have to make a pause here to confess something. When I watched Rebels for the first time, I was happy that Ezra and Sabine didn't end up being a thing. That doesn't mean I didn't see the signs that they could be more than friends/siblings, because there were signs, but I feel that media loves to put first love as if it should be the love of the characters' life always, when in real life it's much less common. It happens, but usually you don't marry your first love. And I thought it was ok to leave the romantic plot out of it. I mean, they were kids fighting a war, they had enough on their plate.
But now, as adults who have grown and gotten vastly different experiences in life and all that? I won't be mad if, when they find Ezra, they declare romantic love for each other. And regarding the message when Ezra says he sees her as a sister, I have the strong feeling that he said that because that was what he thought she wanted to hear. He accepted he was in the "friend zone" and respected that, not knowing Sabine was pinning for him, you know, like idiots in love.
It could be just as he said, they love each other platonically as siblings, and I'm ok with that too. But my heart goes out to all the Sabezra shippers. I know your pain, and as Kalluzeb shipper we might share the same boat soon. I'm fearing that they'll put even harder the "Only friends" sticker on Kallus and Zeb. But just like you, I'll ignore it. So, ship away, my dears. Who's going to stop you? Not me!)
Ahsoka should've known that Sabine would take the map! That was a very Sabine (and a very padawan) thing to do. She should know. How many times she disobeyed Anakin?
And Sabine should've known something like that would happen. When something goes as planned?
The fight between Shin and Sabine was great, but it was painful how rusty Sabine has become. Come on, girl!! and OUCH!!! I didn't expect she was going to be impaled. And thank goodness episode 2 was next because I would've hated that cliffhanger.
Part 2 - Toil and Trouble
Ahsoka's reaction about Sabine losing the map, altho understandable, got on my nerves. Really Ahsoka? have you never done something wrong? I know, I know!! her reaction stems off her trauma and all that, but idk, I didn't like it.
On the other hand, Mom daughter moment with Hera and Sabine was so precious 😭 That really took me back to Rebels. I always love when Hera is the best mom in the galaxy, showing Sabine unconditional support. Despite the physical aspect of the character that it's taking me a bit to get used to it, I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead is doing a pretty good job embodying Hera personality.
For one glorious second, I thought we were going to see live-action Kallus, I swear. I mean, who could've been better to accompany them to Corellia to found out if there were Imperial spies, hmm? I didn't even need him to be in the whole thing, just 5 seconds of screen time, giving them intel on the shipyard or something. Is that too much to ask?!!
OH!! So Ezra and Thrawn are in another galaxy! That explains why nobody found a trace of them. So I guess Peridea is a thing now. And what if Mortis is in that galaxy --or in another-- and Anakin , Obi-Wan and Ahsoka traveled in one of those paths back in TCW? Ok, this is getting interesting.
Thrawn calling Morgan?! Sounds unlikely. But if it's not thrawn, then who? Oh! OH! 😳 I just remembered, The Grysk can manipulate other people's minds!!! I thought we weren't going to touch on the Grysk on this show, like ever, but what if?!!! (i'm sure I'm wrong, but if I'm right? OH MYYY GOOOOSSSHH!!! This show could be soooo so good)
Chopper!!! There he is!!! My beloved war criminal!! I missed him so much!
Yes, yes!! that's general Syndulla I know. Taking shit from nobody!
Thank you, Huyang for easing my mind! Thank the force that Sabine is NOT force sensitive. Like this, I can get behind of the whole idea of Ahsoka being her Master. It's not my favorite thing, but I can tolerate it like this.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Chopper in the chase in the phantom was absolutely great!!
😭 Sabine cutting her hair just like Kanan did. Stop it with feels, dammit!!
Ok now we have caught up with the epilogue, and I'm excited for what's to come.
