vox but he's the old-timey prick (my old-timey vox redesign)
i gave him the good ol' fashioned pacman eyes for good measure !! also, forgive me i've never had any reason to draw valentino so my lil sketch of him looks horrific
small UHF and VHF rant under the cut, because drawing old TVs threw me down a long rabbit hole.
[made in procreate] [3/27/2024]
UHF & VHF rant: my understanding of them from my very brief research on how older televisions work:
UHF = higher frequency radio; shorter wavelengths. good for traveling through walls, ceilings, and concrete. great for indoor communication (like in-home TV & radio)
VHF = lower frequency radio; longer wavelengths. best suited for the great outdoors where nothing gets in the way. might be the type also found on older cars with radio antennas.
for my old-timey vox design, i made the UHF antenna longer and more prominent because vox definitely spends most of his time indoors.

"Ms. Brooke, would you mind telling this one what kind of spell the man used?"
The witch sat in her favorite chair, pursing her lips. Minutes before, two strange creatures had arrived at her door and demanded to enter. When she refused, the first one produced a badge for a position that doesn't exist, and she decided the best way to deal with the strangers was to humor them. For now.
They were both short, not as short as some dolls, but definitely around 5 feet. They had unnaturally purple fluff and working eyes on their wings, and they were both surrounded by a faint teal aura that the witch recognized as angelical magic. Whatever they were, they weren't natural, but they were powerful.
"Oh, I wouldn't know. He failed to cast it and succumbed to Becoming. I've never seen someone suffer from such an affliction before, really. Wouldn't know the first step towards curing it."
She hated lying, but judging on how the two were moths of a nonsensical sort, she suspected they were sent by the fey.
..If they weren't fey themselves.
..The fact they knew her name was making that prospect more than slightly disturbing.
"No idea at all? 1287?"
The sitting one looked to the other, which was standing in the door cradling some sort of hologram in its lower hands. 1287, evidently.
"The house is clean" it says, looking back.
"...Is that all, er.. what did you say you two were? I must be getting back, my doll needs work done on its leg."
"One last thing, ma'am- you claimed the man Became in a mansion. Do you mind telling this one where?"
"Oh, I think I do," she says, slowly raising her parasol. "It's apparently bad luck to open one of these indoors, would you like to find out if that's true?"
The first one's antennae twitch.
"That will be all. Glory to Sanctity." it mutters out, escorting its fellow moth out the door. The witch flicks her parasol, and it slams shut, locking.
"...Walnut, dear, grab my coat. We need to check up on.. your old home."
"MISS!! THIS ONE HAS BEEN DISSASEMBLED THE WHOLE TIME!"
"...right. Sorry, coming.."

for the newest ask game: fan favourite neuvillette! can’t wait to see what you’ll do <3
Headcanon: I can muster a cogent argument for why it would make more sense or make for a better story if this were the case
Okay, so. This is gonna turn into character analysis, but I think there is a huge misconception about Neuvi and the rain. People think that bc it rains when he's sad, then rain = his own tears and that being under rain is sad and bad for him, bc like. well, humans don't like crying and you wouldn't want to get showered with your own tears!
But this is completely missing the nuances of him being a hydro dragon. He LIKES the rain. He loves being under the rain. He daydreams about it:
"Some days, my mind wanders, and I fantasize about walking into the rain... *sigh* Ah, but don't worry, my flights of fancy don't distract me from my work."
And he likes to stand under the rain without umbrella and is a bit peeved that humans find it strange:
"People seem to respond to the sight of a man in the rain without an umbrella as if it were some sort of strange spectacle."
And this is his quote about weeping hydro dragon rhyme:
I don't think that the Hydro Dragon would "weep," per se. I think he just finds himself a little stirred when he gets a taste of the tears that have been shed on this land, on account of all the emotions they contain.
So taking all of this under account, I don't think rain = tears, bc he's not human and crying is not one of his natural reactions. Instead, I think that rain is just his soothing mechanism. When he's stressed, sad, overwhelmed, etc, he instinctively summons rain to be engulfed in his own element. Bc like. humans would react even more badly to the sight of Chief Justice laying face down in a lake than to him just standing under the rain.
And now Wriothesley is released and he has a line about how he saw Neuvi under the rain and put him under umbrella and I already see a lot of fanart of this being romantic etc, and I have nothing against the ship, but this specific scenario for me triggers like cute-or-not reaction of "not cute! hydro dragons like to be under the rain and covering them from it is like blocking sun for the plants." Wriothesley himself even says Neuvi looked visibly distressed, despite being polite!
So instead, consider: kisses under the rain are some of the most hot, cinematic and passionate tropes
But also: where Neuvi doesn't like being, is under the sun.
I find that the, um... beauty of bright sunlight is best appreciated from the indoors through a window.
If you bring him to the desert, he says this looks like assassination attempt. So for cute, romantic and gentlemanly gestures, consider putting him under sun parasol. And maybe sprinkling him from water bottle too.
Heartcanon: I don’t have a particular rationale for why this ought to be the case, I just like to imagine it’s true because it gives me the warm fuzzies
I already talked about how two of his coat-tails glow at the same time as his hair antennae thingies and have same coloration, and move and look differently from the rest of his coat. I like to think that he was born in standard-shaped human body and just instinctively imbued the strands of his hair and two coat-tails of his robes with his power to act like as fins and antennae he used to have in a dragon form.
Gutcanon: it’s not that I actively want this to be the case – it just unaccountably feels like it should be
okay, look at his hair.
let's be real. this hair was not brushed even once in 500 years. This is not a braid. This is just uneven strands sticking out all over the place, with the longest ones caught with a pretty bow.
I think bc dragons do not have hair and especially do not CUT hair or any body parts on purpose, he just never did it. Like, for him it sounds cutting cat's whiskers. He heard that hairdressers will cut your hair and went "Thank you, but no thank you" and just never let anyone touch it, until like, melusines gave him a bow and butterfly clips that he wears to keep hair out of one side of his face.
Junkcanon: I like to imagine it’s true because it gives me the other kind of warm fuzzies
first of all, since his emotions both manifest and affect the water around, i think it would be v fun to use as a reaction to... stimuli. i don't want to go into details to keep this post pg, but you know. storms forming out of nowhere. geysers, most obviously. a little tsunami or a whirlpool perhaps...
also, from his lines about vishaps, he says that hydro organisms are affect by the moon cycle, like the tides. so, you know, there are fun things to do with that too
Spleencanon: I insist that this is the case specifically to spite the author, because, like, fuck you, sir or madam
He should not drown when you run out of stamina in water outside of fountain. Why is hydro sovereign drowning in a puddle, hoyo?!

what is a guilty pleasure of parry? do you think parry will ever tell Ori their feelings? will parry ask Amie for advice for it :33! what’s parry favorite scent!! what habits would Parry have? and ofc, what does Parry feel about the emailers !!
PARRY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT A CRUSH IS!! But they will, one day. Someone just... needs to explain this to them. And they will still not fully understand but they'll go "oh okay. Ori I love you btw. Romanceially or whatever."
THEY MIGHT ASK AMIE! I feel like once they catch up with Snail they might ask them about it lol, Snail's also head over heels for a Nito after all. I'm pretty sure Amie is just as oblivious to the concept of romantic feelings as Parry is, but he'd try!!
Parry adores the scent of just... outside. Especially the smell of a forest. And rain! Any sort of nature smell makes them a little misty-eyed.
They absolutely HATE the smell and taste of metal. Also hate the smell of dust, and many common "cozy" smells you'd find indoors.
HABITS! They've got a nervous tic of picking at their nails (now talons...) and playing with their feathers. Preening their wings (and the "wings" of those around them) is a huge huge habit!! They do it almost out of instinct!! If their friend does not have wings or feathers to preen, they will use anything else sufficiently featherlike as a substitute - gills, hair, fur, antennae... anything! They are constantly resisting the urge to immediately reach out and preen Ori's gills every single time they see him.
Guilty pleasures? Well. If you feel guilt and shame for anything you do, then everything's a guilty pleasure!
AND FOR THE EMAILERS!! I am likely going to end up forgetting people because i've got swiss cheese for a brain so I apologize... if I do and you want to know Parry's thoughts on them just ask </3
Snail - Parry likes Snail! Snail asked to be their (second) best friend, and they barely even knew them!! They're looking forward to getting to know them more :)
Mushroom - Parry NEEDS to talk to Mush more. They feel a connection to them and want to get to know them better... maybe offer a spot on the best friend list? Also may or may not be the first one they visit outside the screen...
Lobby - Parry considers Lobby a friend. They're a friend of Amie! And they were so so kind to Parry... offered to hang out with them? To get them out of their apartment? To try to save them? Parry, of course, was far too concerned for Lobby's safety to allow that, but... it does make them smile. (They're going to take them up on that hanging out offer.)
Sea Angel - MIXED FEELINGS. They make Parry a bit nervous, honestly. If Parry ever finds out what Sea Angel said to Amie, and especially how they thought killing Stoat was outright Wrong... not a conflicting situation, but just Wrong... they are going to hate them.
Scar - Parry is curious about Scar. They feel positively towards them, and are very very curious... are you like me now? What is it like, being in here? Are you here? Can you come home?

Game 1: Part 29
The months went by, Mandarin and Nova often discussed how and when they were going to get off the planet. Gibson was making steady progress on research, but they were still a ways off from being able to leave.
Elf, the cat was killed by a bear, Otto was very upset as he had a unique bond with the cat. He decided to make her a box so he could put her ashes in it.
Nova had another child, they named him Kai, they also noted how Kai looked similar to Rose.
One day, a group of travelers were passing by, among them was a robot monkey called Selena. However, the group was attacked by raiders as they left the base. Selena was the only survivor of the fight. Gibson rescued her against Mandarins orders.
It took weeks for Selena to get back on her feet, by the time she did, she decided she wanted to stay with them. Mandarin probed her for answers about this world. Selena told him that she'd been here her entire life, and that yes there were more robot monkeys too.
The team didn't understand, how could there be more?
Mandarin wasn't happy, but Gibson pleaded to let her stay, she was advanced in science and medicine, she would help their research to get out of here. Eventually he gave in.
Time went by, Amara grew into an adult, while she loved science, she decided to dive into plants as they needed someone to maintain their crops better. She still loved hearing Gibson's lectures and would often go to him for advice.
Dragons were still a major problem, they kept a lookout during the day, if any were spotted, everyone remained indoors until the dragon left the area. It wasn't worth the risk anymore.
Meanwhile, Gibson and Selena began a relationship. Gibson had a brief romantic encounter with Otto in the past, but nothing had developed from it. Meanwhile, these two quickly fell in love over their passion in science.
Amara began to go visit her baby sisters grave, she decided she wanted to planet Roses around it to honor her.
One large group of raiders tried to run through the trap tunnel all together, this was the closest so far that they had managed to get to the entrance of the base. The team decided to upgrade the tunnel with better traps.
As long as they remained indoors during these raids, they were no longer going to be any issue. The raiders couldn't make it through the tunnel anymore.
Kai was finally old enough to start going out by himself, children in the base mainly cleaned and hauled items to where they needed to go. But they were all allowed plenty of time to play and explore.
Gibson and Selena decided to get married, Otto held the ceremony.
They also had a child called Comet. (I forgot to take a picture when he was a baby whoops)
During one attack, one of the farm animals let in a bunch of mutated wild creatures, something the team wasn't prepared for as they came in through one of their other entrances. Mandarin lost his arm during the fight and broke both of his ear antennas.
Otto built Mandarin a new arm.
Otters also attacked Kian, they were stealing fish from their nets and Kian tried to stop them, however these Otters were extremely aggressive. Kian was hurt but thankfully okay.
Time went on, Gibson and Selena took turns researching and helping each other, their son Comet also tried his best to help, which was mostly carrying around papers.
Mandarin would often sit in the graveyard, he prayed that no one else would have to be buried here before they finally could leave.
One morning, the base was attacked by a group of gigantic ants that tried to tunnel inside. Otto was hurt, but thankfully he was okay and didn't lose any limbs of suffer any permanent damage.
Nova had another child with Mandarin, another boy that they named Kyler.
Food was no longer an issue for the base, with Gibson and Selena's research, they could now grow crops insanely fast and during the winter. The animals had always struggled through the winters, but now they would be able to feed them all year round.
As Kian became an adult, he became Gibson's apprentice and began helping the research effort. They realized that they needed to acquire gold soon for their future projects. They hoped traders would bring it.
Gibson and Selena also had another child, a girl called Rain.

Radio Wave Technology Gives Robots ‘All-Weather Vision’
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/radio-wave-technology-gives-robots-all-weather-vision/
Radio Wave Technology Gives Robots ‘All-Weather Vision’
The quest to develop robots that can reliably navigate complex environments has long been hindered by a fundamental limitation: most robotic vision systems essentially go blind in challenging weather conditions. From autonomous vehicles struggling in dense fog to rescue robots hampered by smoke-filled buildings, these limitations have represented a critical vulnerability in robotics applications where failure isn’t an option.
A breakthrough from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Science promises to change how robots perceive their environment. Their innovative system, dubbed PanoRadar, harnesses radio wave technology combined with artificial intelligence to create detailed three-dimensional views of surroundings, even in conditions that would render traditional sensors useless.
Breaking Through Environmental Barriers
Contemporary robotic vision systems primarily rely on light-based sensors – cameras and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology. While these tools excel in optimal conditions, they face severe limitations in adverse environments. Smoke, fog, and other particulate matter can scatter light waves, effectively blinding these traditional sensors when they’re needed most.
PanoRadar tackles these limitations by leveraging radio waves, whose longer wavelengths can penetrate environmental obstacles that block light. “Our initial question was whether we could combine the best of both sensing modalities,” explains Mingmin Zhao, Assistant Professor in Computer and Information Science. “The robustness of radio signals, which is resilient to fog and other challenging conditions, and the high resolution of visual sensors.”
The system’s innovative design brings another significant advantage: cost-effectiveness. Traditional high-resolution LiDAR systems often come with prohibitive price tags, limiting their widespread adoption. PanoRadar achieves comparable imaging resolution at a fraction of the cost through its clever use of rotating antenna arrays and advanced signal processing.
This cost advantage, combined with its all-weather capabilities, positions PanoRadar as a potential game-changer in the field of robotic perception. The technology has demonstrated its ability to maintain precise tracking through smoke and can even map spaces with glass walls – a feat impossible for traditional light-based sensors.
The Technology Behind PanoRadar
At its core, PanoRadar employs a deceptively simple yet ingenious approach to environmental scanning. The system utilizes a vertical array of rotating antennas that continuously emit and receive radio waves, creating a comprehensive view of the surrounding environment. This rotating mechanism generates a dense network of virtual measurement points, enabling the system to construct highly detailed three-dimensional images.
The real innovation, however, lies in the sophisticated processing of these radio signals. “The key innovation is in how we process these radio wave measurements,” notes Zhao. “Our signal processing and machine learning algorithms are able to extract rich 3D information from the environment.”
Achieving this level of precision presented significant technical hurdles. Lead author Haowen Lai explains, “To achieve LiDAR-comparable resolution with radio signals, we needed to combine measurements from many different positions with sub-millimeter accuracy.” This challenge becomes particularly acute when the system is in motion, as even minimal movement can affect imaging quality.
The team developed advanced machine learning algorithms to interpret the collected data. According to researcher Gaoxiang Luo, they leveraged consistent patterns and geometries found in indoor environments to help their AI system make sense of the radar signals. During development, the system used LiDAR data as a reference point to validate and improve its interpretations.
Real-World Applications and Impact
PanoRadar’s capabilities open up new possibilities across multiple sectors where traditional vision systems face limitations. In emergency response scenarios, the technology could enable rescue robots to navigate smoke-filled buildings effectively, maintaining precise tracking and mapping capabilities where conventional sensors would fail.
The system’s ability to detect people accurately through visual obstacles makes it particularly valuable for search and rescue operations in hazardous environments. “Our field tests across different buildings showed how radio sensing can excel where traditional sensors struggle,” says research assistant Yifei Liu. The technology’s capacity to map spaces with glass walls and maintain functionality in smoke-filled environments demonstrates its potential for enhancing safety operations.
In the autonomous vehicle sector, PanoRadar’s all-weather capabilities could address one of the industry’s most persistent challenges: maintaining reliable operation in adverse weather conditions. The system’s high-resolution imaging capabilities, combined with its ability to function in fog, rain, and other challenging conditions, could significantly improve the safety and reliability of self-driving vehicles.
Furthermore, the technology’s cost-effectiveness compared to traditional high-end sensing systems makes it a viable option for wider deployment across various robotic applications, from industrial automation to security systems.
Future Implications for the Field
The development of PanoRadar represents more than just a new sensing technology—it signals a potential shift in how robots perceive and interact with their environment. The Penn Engineering team is already exploring ways to integrate PanoRadar with existing sensing technologies like cameras and LiDAR, working toward creating more robust, multi-modal perception systems.
“For high-stakes tasks, having multiple ways of sensing the environment is crucial,” Zhao emphasizes. “Each sensor has its strengths and weaknesses, and by combining them intelligently, we can create robots that are better equipped to handle real-world challenges.”
This multi-sensor approach could prove particularly valuable in critical applications where redundancy and reliability are paramount. The team is expanding their testing to include various robotic platforms and autonomous vehicles, suggesting a future where robots can seamlessly switch between different sensing modes depending on environmental conditions.
The technology’s potential extends beyond its current capabilities. As AI and signal processing techniques continue to advance, future iterations of PanoRadar could offer even higher resolution and more sophisticated environmental mapping capabilities. This continuous evolution could help bridge the gap between human and machine perception, enabling robots to operate more effectively in increasingly complex environments.
The Bottom Line
As robotics continues to integrate into critical aspects of society, from emergency response to transportation, the need for reliable all-weather perception systems becomes increasingly vital. PanoRadar’s innovative approach to combining radio wave technology with AI not only addresses current limitations in robotic vision but opens new possibilities for how machines interact with and understand their environment. With its potential for wide-ranging applications and continued development, this breakthrough could mark a significant turning point in the evolution of robotic perception systems.

Guide: How to Hook Up an Antenna to Your TV 2024
In the age of advanced technology and digital media, connecting an antenna to your TV may seem like a throwback to the past.
However, antennas remain a reliable and cost-effective way to access over-the-air television broadcasts, providing access to local channels and, in many cases, high-definition programming.
If you’re looking to cut the cord and embrace free, over-the-air TV, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to hook up an antenna to your TV.
Step 1: Check Your TV and Antenna Compatibility
Before diving into the installation process, ensure that your TV is equipped with a built-in tuner or has an external tuner box. Most modern TVs come with built-in tuners, but it’s essential to confirm this to receive over-the-air channels. Additionally, make sure your antenna is suitable for the type of signals available in your area, whether VHF (Very High Frequency) or UHF (Ultra High Frequency).
Step 2: Choose the Right Antenna
Antennas come in various shapes and sizes, designed for different purposes and signal ranges. Indoor antennas are suitable for areas with strong signals, while outdoor antennas are recommended for locations with weaker signals or interference like apartments. Research the channels available in your area and choose an antenna that matches your needs.
Step 3: Find the Optimal Location for the Antenna
For optimal signal reception, determine the best location for your antenna. Place it near a window or outer wall, away from large obstructions like buildings or trees. In the case of an outdoor antenna, ensure it is securely mounted and positioned in the direction of the broadcasting towers.
Step 4: Connect the Antenna to Your TV
Once you’ve found the ideal location for your antenna, it’s time to connect it to your TV. Follow these general steps:
1. Locate the antenna input on your TV, usually labeled as “ANT,” “ANT IN,” or “RF IN.”
2. Use a coaxial cable to connect the antenna to the TV. Insert one end of the cable into the antenna output, and the other end into the TV’s antenna input.
3. Tighten the connectors securely to avoid signal interference.
Step 5: Scan for Channels
After connecting the antenna, it’s crucial to scan for available channels on your TV. Access the TV menu, navigate to the channel setup or tuning section, and select the option to scan for channels. The TV will automatically search for available over-the-air channels and save them to your channel list.
Step 6: Fine-Tune and Enjoy
Once the scanning process is complete, fine-tune your antenna if necessary to improve signal quality. This may involve adjusting the antenna’s position or orientation. Experiment with different orientations until you achieve the best reception.
Conclusion:
Hooking up an antenna to your TV can be a difficult process, which is why you need professional TV antenna installation, like Metro TV Antenna. By choosing the right antenna, finding the optimal location, and connecting it correctly, you can access a variety of local channels in high definition without the need for a cable or satellite subscription. Embrace the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of over-the-air TV and start enjoying your favorite shows without breaking the bank.

Boosting Signal Strength with Antenna Amplifiers: Your Complete Guide to Improved Connectivity
In today’s digital age, reliable access to information and entertainment is paramount. Whether you're streaming your favorite shows, tuning in to local broadcasts, or surfing the web, a clear signal is essential. Unfortunately, weak signals can interrupt your viewing experience, especially if you're located far from the source of transmission. This is where an antenna amplifier becomes a game-changer.
What is an Antenna Amplifier?
An antenna amplifier, also known as a signal booster, is a device designed to improve the strength and quality of the signals received by an antenna. By amplifying the weak signals before they are sent to your television or radio, an antenna amplifier ensures better reception, reducing issues like static, pixelation, or intermittent loss of signal. This makes them an essential tool for homes located in rural or distant areas from broadcast towers, where signal strength may otherwise be too low for consistent reception, wifi enhancer.
How Does an Antenna Amplifier Work?
At its core, an antenna amplifier works by boosting the electrical signals captured by your antenna. When radio waves (in the case of FM radio) or electromagnetic waves (for television) reach the antenna, they are transformed into electrical signals. However, if these signals are weak due to long distances, obstacles like buildings, or atmospheric conditions, the result can be poor reception. The amplifier increases the strength of these weak signals before they are passed on to your receiver.
Types of Antenna Amplifiers
There are two primary types of antenna amplifiers: preamplifiers and distribution amplifiers.
● Preamplifier: This type is usually installed near the antenna and is designed to amplify weak signals right from the source. It’s ideal for people living in areas where the signal coming into the antenna is weak, to begin with, often due to distance from the transmission tower.
● Distribution Amplifier: This amplifier is installed between the antenna and multiple receivers in a home. It boosts the signal for homes that split the antenna signal between several televisions. Without amplification, the signal could weaken significantly as it is distributed across multiple devices.
Do You Need an Antenna Amplifier?
The need for an antenna amplifier depends on a few key factors. If you live in an urban area where the signal is strong and free from interference, you may not require one. However, in suburban or rural areas, where the broadcast signals can weaken due to obstacles like trees, buildings, or mountains, an amplifier can make a significant difference.
Choosing the Right Amplifier
When selecting an antenna amplifier, consider factors like signal strength, distance from the nearest broadcast towers, and how many devices you'll be connecting. Look for amplifiers with adjustable gain control, which allows you to fine-tune the amplification level to prevent signal overload, which can cause distortion.
Installation Tips
Installing an antenna amplifier is relatively simple. For preamplifiers, it's best to place the unit as close to the antenna as possible, while distribution amplifiers should be installed indoors, ideally near where the signal splits. Always ensure that your antenna is properly positioned before adding an amplifier, as amplifying a poor signal won’t improve it; it will only make the poor signal stronger.
Conclusion
An antenna amplifier is a simple, effective way to improve signal strength and quality for televisions or radios, especially in areas with weak reception. By understanding how these amplifiers work and choosing the right type, you can enjoy clear, uninterrupted broadcasts without the frustration of weak signals.
