Pairing: Gwen Stacy x fem!Indian!Reader
Type: Oneshot - Fluff
Word count: 923
Warnings: Use of Y/N, use of nicknames (sweetheart, my love) and lots of culture infodumping but everything’s just fluffy stuff! :D
A/N: Wrote this while waiting for a ballet performance which I’m in to start so not proofread at all :’)
(also shoutout to @hobiebrownismygod for hyping my up tHAT WAS LITERALLY SO SWEET THANK U SO MUCH MY LOVE 💕)
Tumblr media
“Gwen? Gwen! What-”
You cut yourself off with a soft grunt as the girl in front of you tackled you into a hug, squeezing you tight against her. You dropped your kathak bag onto the floor to hug her back. “Hi, Y/N. I had some free time and thought I’d come visit you. You just got back from kathak?”
You nodded and squeezed her hand as she pulled away to press a kiss to your lips and look at you, dressed in a ghagra choli and churidars covered from head-to-toe in mirror-like sequins stitched barely inches apart onto the midnight blue fabric.
“You look like a disco ball,” Gwen noted, giving you a smile. “Yeah, I noticed.” You linked pinkies with her, dragging her over to sit beside you on the couch while you caught your breath. “We had to do so many chakkars today, I’m absolutely exhausted.”
“Chakkars? What are- oh, are they those spins? Are you spotting enough?” Gwen pulled your legs over her lap, examining the ghungroo bells tied around your ankles with fascination. You held out your hand to her and she untied the strings of bells for you, dropping it into your palm and starting to massage small circles into your sore calf muscles.
“Yeah, I’m spotting enough. It’s just really tiring, y’know?”
Gwen smoothed down a wrinkle in your ghagra. “Yep, that happens. Same thing with pirouettes.”
“Noooo, pirouettes are so different! They’re all graceful and elegant and your legs are in weird positions and a chakkar is more speed than grace. I bet you can’t do a chakkar,” You grinned at her from across the couch, a friendly challenge in your tone at the last part.
“Oh, you are on. And I bet you can’t do a pirouette.”
“Deal. Prepare to lose, Gwendolyn Maxine Stacy.” You couldn’t help but giggle softly at the death-glare she gave you once you mentioned her full name. Fortunately, you knew her well enough to know you had to squirm out of range so she couldn’t tickle you ruthlessly.
“Okay, pirouettes, right? Is it like…” You placed your left foot a few inches behind your right one, angled out so your ankles were lined up. Gwen winced at how you were mercilessly butchering the fourth position in ballet.
“Shush, I’m trying my best. I’d like to see you try to do a chakkar on your first try.” You gave her a little glare, unable to squash the smile tugging at your mouth.
Gwen stuck her tongue out at you and joined you on the floor, standing a few feet away and joining her heels. “How do I do it again…?”
“Wait, you gotta use the ghungroo!” You grabbed the strings and tied them around her ankles, the bells jingling with every move she made. Gwen scrunched her nose as she looked down at it. “This is so different from ballet. Lemme guess, next you’re going to tell me to not point my toes.”
“Well… yeah, actually. See, you’re catching on already!” You gave her a kiss on the cheek before retaking your place and trying your best to figure out how you had aligned your heels. “Okay, you go first. Do a four-step chakkar. I’ll count tha, thei, thei, thut. On each syllable you move your feet into the turn.”
“Wait, wh-”
“Tha, thei, thei, thut” You watched Gwen fumble her way through the turn. Surprisingly, she was a natural at it, although her technique could be perfected a little. “Whoa, you’re actually really good at this. It took me weeks to learn how to do a chakkar.”
Gwen gave you a big smile and reached out to squeeze your hand in thanks before coming to stand beside you. “Okay, now do a pirouette. I know you can do it, sweetheart. C’mon, feel the fire, reach into your heart to find the answer or whatever those mentors in your serials say.”
You feigned a dramatic gasp. “Don’t insult Bollywood serials, they’re awesome!”
“I never said they weren’t. Now shush and focus on the turn or you might end up on the floor with a twisted ankle.” You angled your gaze at a point on the wall to spot through your turn, then brought your hands to curve and meet a little in front of your belly button. You pushed your back leg off the ground into the turn, but lost your spotting point somewhere along the way and ended up losing your balance.
Gwen lunged to catch you before you could hit the ground, steadying you and bringing you back onto your feet. “Yeah, I think that’s enough for today. Come on, let’s go get something to eat.”
“Pani puri,” You immediately suggested. Gwen’s eyes widened and she flushed a little as she remembered an incident that happened when you first tried to teach her to crack open the sphere part of the snack.
“You know I keep breaking those little sphere things,” She complained, giving you puppy eyes in hopes that they’d change your mind. “I spilled the pani part of it all over you last time too, remember? And I don’t wanna ruin your kathak clothes, they’re so pretty.”
“That’s fine, my love. I’ll go change and I’ll teach you how to do it again, properly this time. Besides, pani puri isn’t supposed to be eaten neatly, the whole point of it is that it’s messy and you need to somehow stuff the whole thing in your mouth before it leaks and makes too big of a mess to clean up.”
“Fine, I’ll do it. But only because you asked me to. And I’m going to hold the puri this time.”
Tumblr media
I don’t do Kathak and I never have, so pls lmk if anything’s incorrect! <3
Kathak is a type of northern Indian classical dance, with alternate passages of mime and dancing.
A ghagra is a long full skirt, often decorated with embroidery, mirrors, or bells.
A choli is a blouse or a bodice-like upper garment that is commonly cut short leaving the midriff bare (but it’s not always cropped that short). It is usually worn along with a sari or ghagra in the Indian subcontinent.
A ghungroo, also known as ghunghru or ghungur or ghungura, is one of many small metallic bells strung together to form ghungroos, a musical anklet tied to the feet of classical Indian dancers.
Spotting is just a technique used by dancers when they’re spinning as a way to not lose their balance - basically you just focus on a point and every time you spin you have to look at that particular point as quickly as you can and for as long as you can.

from a (half) south asian american who's dark skinned, i think one of the best examples of south asian representation in video games as of recent is frye from splatoon 3.
i think they did so many things great with her. even though she's not really desi considering human culture has been extinct for over 1000 years in the splatoon universe, they did a great portrayal of her as a south asian. the inclusion of her dark skin really adds to that, because as someone who's half south indian, with dark skin, colorism and racism against dark skinned ppl in south asia is a really big issue, and is rooted in the caste system. and even though i doubt the inclusion of her dark skin was meant to break that stigma and stereotyping, it really adds to her regardless!
some other great examples of south asian influence in frye that makes her great rep:
- her singing in splatoon 3 is based on indian vocal music, especially carnatic (south indian) music. there's also traditional indian instruments such as sitar/veena, dholak, and nadaswaram used in songs where she performs. her dancing performance is also reminiscent of indian dances like bharatanatyam, odissi, and kuchipudi.
- her fighting style in her boss battle is based off of snake charming, using a pungi flute to control her moray eels to fight the player, in a manner similar to snake charming
- her outfit is based off of western-south asian or indo-western fashion and clothing, wearing a dupatta over what looks like a choli, and her pants resemble patiala pants. her headpiece also resembles mango chutney or another south asian condiment
- the locker decoration received from story mode that depicts her, sunken scroll 11, is based off of traditional indian art, especially from south india. the pose she strikes and the surrounding motifs are reminiscent of south indian and sri lankan sculpture and art depicting hindu figures; an example of a work of art similar to this depiction of frye is the bronze statue Shiva Natarāja, depicting the god shiva as nataraja, the cosmic lord of dance.
- and although i don't know for sure if her big forehead is based in south asian traditional beauty traditions, i still think it adds to her greatly as south asian representation. video game characters from any underrepresented culture are often depicted under western beauty standards, and frye's appearance that defies both western beauty standards AND colorist standards of south asian beauty truly makes her a great example of south asian rep in video games.
special thanks to twitter user rosierajin, who also compiled a list of examples of south asian influence in frye's character
anyways, that's my conclusion about why frye is an amazing example of south asian rep, hope you enjoy :3

There’s no doubting the fact that lehengas are incredibly popular, and for good reason. They’re versatile and stylish, and they can be worn on any occasion. However, not all lehengas are created equal, and some might be better suited for certain body types than others. If you’re overweight or have a large waistline, it may be best to avoid wearing a traditional lehenga dress. Instead, consider something like a maxi dress or tunic, which will be more forgiving of your figure. Alternatively, if you want to wear a lehenga but don’t want to worry about it being too tight or uncomfortable, go for an air-dried version. These fabrics are softer and more forgiving than traditional dried fabrics, making them a better choice for those with heavier frames. Best for Fat Ladies Which lehenga is best for fat ladies? There are many different types of lehengas, so it can be hard to decide which one is the best for a particular woman. Here are some factors to consider when choosing a lehenga: -The material of the lehenga. Some materials are better suited for warm weather, while others work better in colder climates. Consider what kind of climate you'll be living in when you make your selection. -The design of the lehenga. There are many different designs and colors to choose from, so find one that will look good on you. Some designs are more conservative, while others are more modern and stylish. -The size of the lehenga. Make sure the size works well on you before you buy it. You may need to go up or down a size depending on your body type and height. Types of Lehengas There are three types of lehengas that would be best for different body types- the Sari, the Choli and the Kameez. The Sari is perfect for ladies with a small frame, as it drapes loosely around their body. The Choli is waist-length and falls below the hips, revealing a woman’s curves. The Kameez is knee-length and can be made in a variety of colours and styles to suit every woman. The best lehengas for fat women There are a few things to consider when shopping for the perfect lehenga for your body type. The fabric should be lightweight but strong, and it should have an elastic band at the waist so it doesn't cling to your body. Matching accessories are essential, such as a choli or dupatta, and you'll want to choose a design that's flattering and fits your figure well. The following lehengas fit all types of bodies and can be worn for all occasions: 1) Anarkali Lehenga: This traditional style is perfect for those who want something formal and sophisticated. The fabric is delicate but sturdy, making it ideal for events like weddings or ceremonies. 2) Designer Lehenga: If you're looking for something more high-end, designer lehengas are the way to go. They come in many different styles, colors and fabrics, making them perfect for any occasion. 3) Choli Lehenga: A choli is an essential component of any Indian wedding outfit, and this style works well no matter what your figure size is. It's made from light cotton fabric that flows softly around your body while still providing support. 4) Dupatta Lehenga: A dupatta is a versatile accessory that can be worn with just about any outfit. This traditional style comes in many different colors and patterns and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. How to choose the right lehenga For ladies who are looking for a stylish lehenga that can accommodate their curvier body shapes, there are many varieties to choose from. Here is a breakdown of the different types of lehengas and their respective benefits: Rajasthani Lehenga: This type of lehenga is perfect for those with a curvy figure. It is lightweight and has a flowy fabric which makes it comfortable to wear. Additionally, the stitching on the Rajasthani lehenga is intricate, giving it a sophisticated look. Saraswati Lehenga: This type of lehenga is perfect for those who want something ethnic and unique. The saraswati lehenga features ornate designs and patterns all over it, making it very visually appealing. Additionally, the fabric is extremely soft and comfortable to wear, making it ideal for hot climates. Bengali Choli: If you are looking for an everydaywear option, the Bengali choli is ideal. It comes in different sizes so that everyone can find one that fits comfortably. Additionally, the fabric is easy care so you can keep it looking good even after repeated wears. Kashi Dupatta: If you are looking for a special occasion outfit, then the kashi dupatta is perfect. Made from high-quality silk materials, this dupatta will make any woman feel elegant and beautiful. Types of Lehengas There is no definitive answer to the question of which lehenga is best for fat ladies, as every body shape and size is unique. However, general guidelines can be followed in order to choose the perfect lehenga for your body type and figure. The following are three types of lehengas that are most suited for overweight women: Choli Lehenga: This style is often recommended for women who have a round or hourglass figure. It features an empire-waist silhouette and a fitted bodice that accentuates your curves. Made from delicate fabrics such as cotton or silk, choli lehengas are comfortable to wear and look elegant when paired with a matching blouse or saree. A LINE Lehenga: This style features an A-line skirt that falls below the knee. It's perfect for curvier figures because it doesn't cling to your body, making it super versatile and easy to wear even on formal occasions. You can also choose this style if you're looking for something more modest and conservative; paired with a blazer or cardigan, it will lend a touch of luxury to any outfit. Jodhpur Lehenga: Considered the quintessential Indian wedding dress, jodhpuri lehengas are traditionally made from heavy fabrics such as brocade or woolen fabric. They're usually embellished with intricate designs and feature long trains that trail behind you as you Different Fabric Types Different Fabric Types: There are a few different types of fabrics that make up lehengas. These fabrics can be made from cotton, silk, or a mix of both. Each fabric has its own unique set of properties that can make it better suited for specific use cases. Cotton lehengas are the most popular type because they are affordable and easy to care for. They are also lightweight and breathe well, making them ideal for summer wear. Silk lehengas are made from silk thread and can be luxurious and expensive, but they tend to be more difficult to care for. They may require special detergents and care to keep them looking their best. A mix of cotton and silk fabric is often recommended for people who want the best of both worlds - affordability and high-quality construction. How to choose a lehenga When it comes to finding the perfect lehenga for your body, there are a few things to consider. The fabric, the fit, and the style all play a role in choosing the right one. Here's how to choose a lehenga that will look great on you! The Fabric: Lehengas come in a variety of fabrics and textures, from lightweight silk chiffon to heavy brocade. The most important thing to consider is your body type. A light weight silk chiffon lehenga is best for those with lighter skin and less curves, while a heavy brocade lehenga is better suited for heavier women with more curves. The Fit: Now let's talk about fit. You want your lehenga to be tight but not too tight so that it's uncomfortable to wear, and also long enough so that it covers your whole leg length comfortably. You don't want it so tight that it restricts movement or so loosely fitting that it falls off every time you move. There are also many styles of lehengas where the neckline or waistband can be adjusted to make sure they fit perfectly. The Style: Last but not least, what style should you go for? There are many different styles of Indian clothing out there and all of them look great on different bodies types and face shapes. Let your personality shine through by choosing something that flaunts your unique style! How to Wear a Lehenga When it comes to choosing the best lehenga for fat ladies, there are a few important things to keep in mind. The fabric should be light and airy, so that it doesn’t add any extra weight; the neckline should be high enough to cover the bust but not too low that it becomes vulgar; and finally, the length should be just enough to cover the ankle. Here are five of our favorite lehengas for big girls: Anarkali Lehenga: This intricate floral print is perfect for those who love lively prints. It has a high neckline that will keep your bust covered, while its flowing fabric will make you feel dreamy and stylish all at the same time. dupatta Lehenga: This traditional Indian dress is made from lightweight cotton fabric and features a deep V-neckline that makes it flattering on all body types. The length is also adjustable, so you can customize it to fit your height perfectly. Saree with Dupatta: If you want something more traditional but still stylish, opt for this saree with a dupatta attached instead of a blouse or shawl. It has a deep V-neckline and comes in many different colors and prints to suit all styles. Lace A-Line Lehenga: This delicate lace design is perfect if you want something very feminine and elegant. It features an empire waistband and Conclusion Choosing the right lehenga for fat ladies can be tricky. There are so many different designs and styles to choose from, and it can be hard to know which one will look good on you. That's where we come in! We've put together a list of the five best lehengas for fat ladies, based on our own personal experiences and feedback from other women who have similar body types. So whether you're looking for something formal or more casual, we hope that this list will help you find the perfect outfit for your next event. #lehengalove #lehengasmumbai #croptoplehenga #whitelehenga #heavylehenga #lehengalover #lehengawear #rufflelehenga #lehengaa #indianfashion #fashionblogger #lengha #indiantraditionalwear #sangeetoutfit #indianattire #allthingsbridal #desiwear #duppatta #kurthis #lenghasmumbai #engagementlehenga

Fashion Meets Ethnicity!!
India is the most diverse nation in the world. There is a lot of diversity in culture, religion, language, food, fashion, etc. People here live together and respect each other’s customs and it's true that “Unity in Diversity” is the unique feature of our country.
When it comes to fashion, India has it all. Due to its diversified culture, we have a wide variety of fashion from traditional Indian dresses to western wear. This trend has given birth to a fashion trend called the Indo-Western Fusion Style. Nowadays, Indian women want to prefer fashion that is stylish yet traditional. This is where Fashion meets Ethnicity!!!
Lehenga Choli is one such kind of outfit that Indian women cannot avoid. Weddings or Festivals, it is incomplete without Lehengas for Indian women. It is a beautiful three-piece traditional attire that is usually preferred amongst the older and the new generation equally in India. Traditionally, this three-piece attire has an Antriya which is the lower garment from which Ghagra and Dhoti emerged, the Stanapatta which later on became the blouse and the Uttariya, which is the piece of cloth used for covering the head and the shoulder. The Uttariya is the modern-day Dupatta. This traditional outfit saw many transformations and evolved over time into the modern-day Lehenga Choli.
Madhusmithastore always endeavors to give the best to its customers. Madhusmitha cares about its customers' needs and caters to the same. The Lehenga collection includes traditional as well as stylish Lehengas in customizable sizes and Lehengas come in various fabrics and patterns.
Their best-selling product is the Banarasi Art Silk woven Semi-stitched Lehenga Choli with Satin lining in multiple colors with matching/contrasting dupatta which I would really recommend to anyone. The fabric and their designs are too good. The set consists of a Blouse/Choli made of Cotton silk with a matching or contrasting dupatta in Silk/Net fabric. The Net dupatta has peal embroidery on it and the Silk dupatta has golden shiny work. The Lehengas come in multiple colors and fabrics at an affordable price. The price of this Banarasi Silk Lehenga is starting from Rs.2450/- only. This is the best website that provides the best Lehenga Choli under Rs. 5000/-. Madhusmitha always helps to bring out the Indian charm in us during weddings, engagements, or festivals like Diwali, Dussehra, Sankranti, etc.
They also have a Bridal Semi-stitched Lehenga Choli set which is as cheap as Rs.8500/-.The fabric used for the Lehenga-Choli and Dupatta is 100% Jacquard and the size of the product is customizable as the Lehenga is semi-stitched and the blouse is unstitched. This product has one Lehenga, one Choli, and one Blouse piece in the set. They have the best Bridal Lehenga collection online at affordable prices.
Madhusmithastore also has a good collection of matching accessories at affordable prices that can be purchased along with the Lehengas. We can buy both lehengas and jewelry from the same store which can save a lot of our time. Enjoy Shopping with Madhusmitha!!!

Choosing Lehenga Designs According to Body Type:
We offer a wide range of lehenga designs that are carefully crafted to flatter and enhance different body types, allowing you to embrace your unique features and feel confident in your ensemble.
For those with an apple-shaped body, we recommend opting for wide-flared lehengas that cinch at the waist. This style accentuates the waistline and creates a flattering silhouette. Pairing it with a peplum top can help conceal any areas you may feel conscious about, while still maintaining a stylish and fashionable look.
If you have a pear-shaped body with wider hips, A-line lehengas are an excellent choice. The A-line silhouette gently skims over the hips and flares out towards the hem, creating a balanced and elegant look. You can further enhance the overall appearance by opting for lehengas with intricate embroidery that draws attention to the upper body and balances out proportions.
For those with a strawberry-shaped body, where the shoulders are wider than the hips, choosing lehengas with lots of embroidery on the skirt can help create a visually balanced look. This draws attention away from the shoulders and towards the lower body, creating a harmonious and proportionate appearance.
Lehenga Designs with Embroidery and Embellishments:
We offer a wide selection of lehengas that feature intricate and stunning embroidery techniques, as well as embellishments that add a touch of glamour and elegance. Whether you prefer zari work, gota patti, multi-colored thread embroidery, cut dana, or mirrorwork, we have the perfect lehenga to suit your personal style and preferences.
From delicate floral motifs to intricate geometric patterns, our lehengas showcase the beauty of traditional Indian craftsmanship. Whether you're looking for a subtle and understated design or a bold and statement-making piece, we have a wide range of options to choose from.
In addition to embroidery and embellishments, we also offer lehengas in a variety of materials to cater to your comfort and style preferences. Our collection includes traditional silk lehengas that exude regal charm and grace, as well as trendy velvet lehengas that offer a rich and luxurious look. We also offer other materials such as georgette, chiffon, organza, and net, each with its own unique characteristics and drape.
When selecting a lehenga, we understand that the material plays a crucial role in determining the overall look and feel of the outfit. Our knowledgeable team can guide you in choosing the right material based on your specific requirements, ensuring that you stay comfortable and confident throughout your special occasion.
Selecting the Latest and Trendy Lehenga Color Combination:
We understand the significance of choosing the latest and trendy colour combinations for your lehenga. Our collection features a wide range of captivating colour palettes that are in vogue and will ensure you make a stylish statement. Here are some of the latest and trendy lehenga colour combinations you can explore:
Pastel Shades: Embrace the soft and delicate charm of pastel shades, which are currently ruling the fashion scene. Opt for lehengas in hues like blush pink, mint green, lilac, or powder blue. These serene and romantic colours create a dreamy look that is perfect for daytime events or elegant occasions.
Jewel Tones: Make a bold and vibrant statement with lehengas in rich jewel tones. Choose from royal blue, emerald green, deep burgundy, or regal purple to add a touch of opulence and glamour to your ensemble. Jewel tones are ideal for evening events or festive celebrations, allowing you to stand out with their luxurious allure.
Monochromatic Looks: For a contemporary and chic appearance, consider going for monochromatic lehenga colour combinations. Dressing in shades of a single colour, such as an all-white ensemble or an all-black lehenga with contrasting accents, creates a sophisticated and modern aesthetic. Monochromatic looks exude elegance and make a strong style statement.
Metallic Accents: Incorporating metallic accents into your lehenga colour combination adds a touch of glamour and allure. Gold, silver, or bronze embellishments, thread work, or sequins can elevate the overall look of your lehenga and make it visually striking. Pairing metallic accents with colours like black, navy blue, or deep maroon creates a mesmerizing contrast that exudes luxury and sophistication.
