Background and Story
We are Maeve Athanasiadis and Dionys "Dio" Gallagher, a pair of rock-hoppers from
the Belt
. Born to a life of hardship, we were never very good at mining. Or engineering, really - when our ship broke down, it broke hard, and the towing fees to
Tycho Station
nearly wiped us out. We couldn't afford to repair our ship, the Black Moon, or
Mung Belék
, so we decided to follow our secret passion and converted it into a bar. Now we're parked at Dock 73Y, slinging drinks out of our cargo hold.
It turns out we're way better at bartending than we ever were at mining, and we love it. Our creative drinks, true Belter hospitality, and novel (if cramped) location have earned us the admiration of dockworkers, engineers, and visiting customers alike. As one of the hottest
bars
on Tycho, we're expanding, but we need your help to keep things running and the drinks flowing.
What We're Doing
This will be a suite party at WorldCon 76 in San Jose this August, themed around the Belter culture from the award-winning book and TV series
The Expanse.
The party will run on August 17th and 18th (Friday and Saturday nights). This is an expanded and improved version of the Belter Bar that some of us ran at BayCon 2017, when Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the authors of
The Expanse
were guests of honor at the con, and spent quite a while attending our bar, enjoying the decor and drinks, and generally having a good time.
When you walk in, you'll be entering the most immersive
Expanse
experience we can create, with great drinks made on the spot as well as Belter language and culture. We invite everyone - Belters, Martians, Earthers, and those who haven't chosen a faction - to join us in space for an evening!
Donations will go toward:
Supplies of alcohol, mixers, and food;
Decorations that provide an immersive, atmospheric experience ("Those look like the same string lights we had on our set," observed Ty Franck, co-author of The Expanse, at the last party)
Safety measures and equipment for the hotel suite
Transporting all this to and from the site
All our staff will be donating their time and energy.

If we don't raise enough money, we won't be able to make this event as good as it should be. We have great plans for set dressing and for food and drinks, and we'd hate to turn away thirsty people.

7 Ways to Scratch the Travel Itch Without Traveling

Once at a reader reader meetup, a fellow traveler approached me. He had just returned from an overland drive from New York City to Patagonia.
After I peppered him with questions about his trip (I mean really, how cool does that trip sound?), he asked me one:
“How do you deal with coming home, staying in the travel mindset, and keeping the lessons you learned alive?”
It’s a great question and it touches on something a lot of travelers get blindsided by: the post-travel blues.
Post-trip depression is something many long-term travelers struggle with.
Coming home is often harder than leaving (or adjusting to life abroad) because it’s so anti-climactic.
Before your trip, there is this massive buildup of emotions, preparation, and excitement. You’ve been planning a trip for months, imagining yourself in foreign lands, meeting interesting people, and going on an adventure.
You’re moving toward a goal. You’re excited. A bright future of possibility lies before you.
But then you come home after months (or years) abroad and it’s suddenly “now what?”
There’s no more buildup.
Just a complete stop.
You don’t come back with a bang; you come back with a whimper. Your friends are only kind of interested in your trip, but soon their eyes glaze over at your travel tales. Before you know it, you fall back into your old routine and it’s as this trip never happened.
So what can you do to recreate that sense of travel when you get back home?
And, given the times we live in, what do you do when you are quarantined because of Coronavirus, flights are grounded, and the travel industry has come to a halt?
How can you keep that sense of adventure alive while you are home (literally in your home and generally in your community)?
Well, here are 7 ways to bring the world to you when you can’t go to it:
1. Read Travel Books
The easiest thing you can to bring the world to you is to visit it through a book. Read about people’s adventures and stay inspired as you dream about all the places you’ll go in the future. Get new ideas, learn about other cultures, satiate your wanderlust, and grow your “to visit” list.
Let your mind travel when your body can’t.

3. Start Planning Your Next Trip
Eventually, the current situation with the Coronavirus will pass and we’ll be able to travel again. So, while you are at home with lots of time on your hands, start planning your summer or fall trip. After all, we’re all gonna really need to get outside once this crisis is over! Trip planning will keep you busy and help make the days and weeks fly by.
First, buy a guidebook. I love getting lost in guidebooks and plotting itineraries and dreaming of the sights I’ll see. They’ll help you get the lay of the land, outline your budget, and give you an introduction to the destination. Being at home can lead to a lot of boredom but I’ve always found trip planning – even for places I never end up going – a great mental escape that helps me pass the time and occupy my mind.
4. Start Travel Hacking
While you’re waiting for your next trip, sign up for a new travel credit card so you can earn points and miles for free flights and hotel stays. This is how I travel so often without spending a ton of money. Accommodation and flights are two of the biggest expenses you’ll have so being able to reduce that to near zero ensure you’ll be able to travel a lot more!

Confusion regarding Airbnb policy concerning whether a friend can visit a guest for an overnight stay at their own discretion when the guest is long term leasing a private apartment for a month, unless the host explicitly states otherwise in the house rules
Dear AirBnB of Reddit,
I was wondering if you might be able to assist me in deciding whether or not I should leave my hosts a bad review for my recent stay. I have never left a bad review before and doing so leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I have worked in hospitality for many years but in this instance I feel like one is warranted. In part this is because of the way the AirBnB review system is designed and I feel like if they were to leave one for me then I would like to be able to tell my side of the story as well so my ability to book future accommodation through the site isn't affected. So here is what transpired, although please bear in mind that as always with every story there is my version of events, there is their version of events and somewhere in the middle there is the truth. But I will recount the facts as best I can from my own perspective:
I live and work in Tanzania and I decided to travel to the nearby island of Zanzibar for a working holiday. I wanted to find a place that would allow me to do my work on my laptop in privacy but also I wanted to be near the beach and I wanted to be near a dear friend of mine who I haven't seen in a long time and who manages a fancy hotel in Zanzibar. While perusing places I noted that some had explicit rules regarding visitors of guests in their house rules. To double check what that meant I phoned up AirBnB and was told that these rules are put in place to avoid any confusion between guest and host. AirBnB were very clear to me that any host who wished to avoid having visitors or friends visiting their guests would explicitly say so in their house rules. So I duly avoided booking these places because I wanted my friend to be able to visit me at our own discretion.
In the end I settled on a private apartment which had a "lap-top friendly work space" that said it could fit four people and I booked the entire place for myself under "one guest". I checked their house rules and noted that there was no mention of any restriction regarding visitors or friends or unregistered guests. In fact when I changed the number of guests from one to two on the listing, the price remained the same at $40 a night. Since the place met all my needs, I booked the place for an entire month.
Now my friend was kind enough to come and pick me up from the ferry port and drive me to my AirBnB where we met the hosts. The hosts were welcoming and friendly and told me that I could make myself at home but that the four dogs that lived on their property weren't allowed inside the apartment. That was the only rule which was discussed upon check-in other than deciding that the house keeper would come once a week. Three weeks passed without an issue. My friend would visit me two to three times in a week when she could get time off work from her busy job managing a hotel in the high season and when she did we would explore the island together in her car before returning to the apartment where she would stay the night before going back to work the next morning. Paradise!
But then my friend got suddenly sick. Since there is a hospital located near the AirBnB I invited my friend to come and stay with me so I could take her to the doctor early in the morning. The doctor diagnosed her with a respiratory tract infection and prescribed her anti-biotics and told her to rest and recuperate for a few days. Since my hosts had never said anything about having an issue with my friend staying in the past and since I had hired out an entire apartment for myself and since there was no explicit mention of a restriction of any kind listed in the house rules, I presumed that there would be no issue having my friend stay with me for a couple of consecutive nights while she recovered.
But this is when things quickly became sour between the hosts and myself.
Upon returning from fetching lunch from a restaurant for my poor bed-ridden friend, the husband of the host asked to speak to me. Apparently my friend had pointed out to the housekeeper that there were some dead cockroaches on the floor that the cleaner had missed. The housekeeper had reported this information to the husband and the husband and taken umbrage with this fact. He told me that my friend had to leave because "she was making complaints" and I had booked the place for "one guest and not two". I considered his request but in the end I declined his offer on the grounds that my friend was sick and could barely move. Instead I asked the husband why on earth he was choosing today of all days to start all this unnecessary drama when they hadn't mentioned anything in the past regarding my friend coming to visit from time to time. After some discussion we ended up reaching a stale-mate in which I simply refused to throw my sick friend out as the host demanded on the grounds that there was no mention of any restriction regarding visitors in the house rules. From my perspective the host simply seemed to be introducing arbitrary rules without any prior notice simply because my sick friend had innocently pointed out a few dead cockroaches to the housekeeper.
The following day I received a message from the wife through AirBnB saying that she wanted to do things officially through the platform. In her message she said she wanted to charge me an additional $400USD because I have had an "additional guest" staying with me the entire time when I had only booked the place for "one guest". In reply I sent what I considered to be a rather diplomatic response in which I told her what I had told the husband the day before. I stated that I am sorry if they felt imposed upon or that I had tried to "trick" them by sneaking in an extra guest but I had checked the house rules when I booked the private apartment and there was no mention of any restriction regarding visiting friends or visitors not being allowed past 10pm or additional fees that would have to be paid for unregistered guests staying the night. However if it were her wish then I would respect her property and my friend would never be seen again from the following morning. I told them that in future I hope they introduce house rules regarding visitors so that there is no confusion from either side. I received no reply to this message.
Instead the following day I received a separate email through AirBnB from the host, except this time the message was written in Portugese, a language the host knows full well I do not speak. Luckily a Portugese friend of mine translated the message for me and I realised it was a threatening demand notice which stated that "the host is demanding I pay additional funds and that I had one day to reply or my account would be subject to an analysis by AirBnB". Naturally I declined their kind offer to pay but I was left puzzled by the message being sent in Portugese so I contacted AirBnB support.
AirBnB support told me that the host had now escalated the matter so that a mediator would be getting in contact within the next 24-48 hours and that I should keep my phone line open and await their call. This caused me some distress because I now felt like my otherwise relaxing experience thus far was being soured by an entirely unnecessary and unpleasant experience thanks to these hosts. As a result I no longer felt comfortable staying at the AirBnB so I started staying elsewhere, despite having paid in full for the AirBnB apartment for another week. Eventually AirBnB support messaged me again and told me that they had received a request from the host that I pay additional funds for my stay and asked whether I would like help in processing the payment. Once again, I declined the request and explained my reasons why and concluded by saying:
"My argument and rebuttal is fairly simple.
Surely if you book an entire apartment for yourself for an entire month then you are allowed to have friends visit you at your own discretion, unless the house rules or the host explicitly state otherwise. If the host did not wish my friend to visit me from time to time then why not just include such a rule in her house rules or say so from the start. Waiting until my last week to cause all this drama and demand $400USD is not an appropriate way to handle matters. Not when she could have exercised her right to turn my friend away from the beginning or make me aware of any additional cost I would have to pay. Quite frankly, this whole experience is making me feel uncomfortable and I am counting down the days until I can leave this place and move on with my life!"
Since sending that message two days have now passed and I have not heard a word from either the host or AirBnB support regarding the issue so hopefully the matter has now been dropped.
So I return to my original concern about whether or not I should be leaving a bad review for these hosts when I leave since I am sure they will be likely to leave me one. From both sides I admit that there has been a communication failure which has led to all of these silly issues. Frankly I would usually just chalk the entire experience up to misunderstanding and human error of judgement in the heat of the moment. But then the fact that they completely ignored my diplomatic response trying to defuse the situation troubles me; coupled with the fact that they send me that odd message in Portugese trying to demand an additional $400USD; and the fact that they seemed to contact AirBnB repeatedly trying to get AirBnB to take money from me on their behalf while making no attempts to communicate with me directly; and the fact that they had ample opportunity to discuss their policy regarding friends visiting from the beginning but chose to stay silent until demanding a significant sum from my pocket in the last week of my stay; together with the overt lies they seem to be telling AirBnB in trying to charge me for an "additional guest" who has stayed with me for the entire length of my stay, which is a pure fabrication on their part; and the fact that I have noticed that they have changed the pricing on their listing so that "one guest" is now $38 a night and two guests is now $46. All these actions cause me some consternation concerning their behaviour.
In short, in my mind all of their actions are adding up to something more malicious than simple miscommunication.
So I wanted to ask the esteemed sages of Reddit for guidance regarding what you think I should do in this matter. After all perhaps I was completely wrong from the start. I admit I am not all too familiar with AirBnB policy regarding friends visiting your private apartment. But I do know that I certainly don't appreciate the way they have handled the matter. In all my years in hospitality I would never have spoken to a guest in the manner that they have spoken to me. But my natural tendency would be to just move on with my life and say nothing. Yet I do not want a terrible review posted about me that would affect my future bookings through the site without a chance to share my side of the story. And I cannot see the review they will leave me until I post one myself and once I do, I cannot change it.

TLDR: Miscommunication or avaricious behaviour or idiocy on my part or a combination of all three has led to the hosts demanding an additional significant sum from my pocket and I am not sure whether I should leave them a bad review for the attempt.

If you want to write the history of Sardinia Island history you should write at least thousand of words. Because Sardinia Island has a very-long standing history through pages of the past. We can basically say that this island is pre-historic! Yes, that's true! The oldest primate called Oreopithecus bambolii is dated to 8.5 million years ago! Modern humans, us, appeared around 18000 BC in Sardinia Island. The remains found at Su Coloru cave of Laerru. There were also eras belongs to the Nuragic, Phoenician and of course the Roman Empire. After them, Vandals, Goths, and Byzantines ruled the island.

I strongly suggest you read a book or very detailed post about the Kingdom of Sardinia because their history is quite impressive. With the unification of Italy in 1861, the Kingdom of Sardinia became the Kingdom of Italy. During the Great War (WWI) some separatist and libertarian movement occurred on the island but they were smothered by the kingdom. In 1948, Sardinia became an autonomous region with the highest level of self-governance of all in Italy. Up till today, Sardinia becomes a more and more popular tourist region and top spot among travelers. I just don't want to dive in pure history because most of the people probably want to discover the present :)
How to Go to Sardinia Island?
As you expect there are multiple airports in Sardinia Island. One located in the west coast (Alghero 'Riviera del Corallo' - IATA code AHO), one in the south (Cagliari 'Elmas' IATA code CAG) and one in the east coast the famous 'Emerald Coast' or 'Costa Smeralda' as the Sardinian call it (Olbia - IATA code OLB). During the summer all of them will be crowded because millions of people visit Sardinia Island every year. You can come to any of these airports from Italy. But if you are coming from abroad to Sardinia, my suggestion is to buy a ticket to Olbia Airport. Because Olbia Airport is accessible by most airlines among other airports like Cagliari Airport and Alghero Airport. Olbia Airport is only 4 km away from the city center. You can also find a flight to Olbia Airport from Copenhagen, Prague, Barcelona and many other major cities around Europe.
What Is The Best Time to Visit Sardinia Island?
I'm going to answer this question by thinking that you want to visit Sardinia to enjoy nature, sea and the sun, right? So, the best time to visit Sardinia Island is between May and September. Averages temperatures are 22.9, 27.3, 30.4, 30.8 and 27.4 degrees. Not very hot or calm, perfect! Also, if you visit Sardinia Island May, Juna or September you can probably avoid most of the crowds during the summer.

Where to Visit in Sardinia Island?
Generally, I write the top 5 to 10 places in a place, region or city. but this I can write up to 20 thanks to the friends at the Reddit Sardinia. On this part of the Sardinia Island Travel Guide post, you can find the top 20 places to see when you visit Sardinia Island. 1. Cagliari Capital of the Sardinia is the city of Cagliari. If you visit Sardinia, Cagliari should the first place to see during your time on this perfect island. Cagliari is located at the very south of the Sardinia Island. This port city of the Sardinia offers its visitors various joys, culture and many other attractions. At least you should spend a couple of days to explore this historic capital of the Sardinia. I will definitely prepare a detailed Cagliari guide in the future. 2. Barumini: The Nuraghi (Su Nuraxi di Barumini) The Nuragic complex of Barumini (Su Nuraxi di Barumini) is located around 70 km north of the Cagliari very close to the Barumini city center. This area is also known as the Mamilla and in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is so important because the best-preserved remains of the Nuragic Civilaziton are in here. Barumini is another must-to see the place.

Pan Di Zucchero Island Pan Di Zucchero where is a very small island close to the Iglesias coast if an extremely stunning natural monument. Sugarloaf is the meaning of Pan Di Zucchero. It is possible to go to the Pan Di Zucchero by renting a small boat.

There is also Gennargentu National Park where to be visited here. Cala Gonone is located on the east side of Sardinia Island very close to the Dorgali.

Asinara Island On the north of the Sassari, Asinara Island is a national park where you can see very well protected Mediterranean scrap and also little albino donkeys. Because it not allowed to dock of the private boats. Also, In only 3 beaches swimming is allowed. Asinara Island is only opened to tourism in 1999. 7. Public Transport in Sardinia Island
If you want to bring your car it can be extremely expensive and time-consuming for you, so forget that! You can rent a car from one of the airports or cities of Sardinia. Also, you have a couple of options to travel around. I can say that public transport in Sardinia Island is quite nice. Because of there train and bus lines between cities and also tram lines in major cities. Traveling Around with Bus in Sardinia Island Sardinia Island is connected with many bus lines. ARST is the company that operates the bus lines on Sardinia Island. You can visit their website to get more information about bus lines and prices. Buses in Sardinia are relatively new and comfortable for the tourists and locals.
One of the buses of the ARST company (Source). Traveling Around with Train in Sardinia Island Taking a train in Sardinia Island is another option to get around if you visit Sardinia. But the train lines don't cover all of the islands as you expected due to geographical restrictions. If you want to buy a train ticket online you should visit the Trenitalia website. Pattaya is DYING IT'S DEATH say locals
Thais have agreed with assessments made earlier in the week that #Pattaya is dying a death.
And they appear to have rejected a rosy outlook presented by a deputy mayor. One of Thailand's premier seaside resorts is so quiet that most people are in bed by 11 pm. Few are buying anything, red light areas are quiet as the grave, hotels won't lower their prices and one poster even spoke of being afraid of ghosts, it was that quiet. The Prime Minister has even been singled out for getting what he wanted. The comments were all the initial posts from Thais to pictures taken at 1 am this morning and posted on the site of the Pattaya Watchdog.
Picture: Pattaya Watchdog A "Top Fan" posted a picture of a deserted Soi Bua Khao, part of the city's once famed red light district. "Pim" said she had been trying to sell stuff at Central but it was "soooooo quiet". "Ivy" asked: "Where has everyone gone?" "Pond" partially blamed the hotels for refusing to lower expensive prices. "Nut" said that the first things that came to her mind on a visit were ghosts. "Narupong" said how stupid it was for the authorities to be digging up the road when the International Fireworks festival was happening.
Picture: Pattaya Watchdog But "Kantinan" summed up the situation in Pattaya best saying: "In the old days they said Pattaya never sleeps. You would see people all day and all night on the streets. But now everyone appears to be in bed by 10/11pm. All the streets are deserted and you just don't see anyone out and about any more".
