For Titania, she also gave up her, probably promising, career with the Royal knights to help Greil take care of his two young children after Elena had been brutally murdered along with the village they were living in slaughtered. Greil never could have established himself as a mercenary with two young children to care for without Titania’s help. She also helps train Boyd with the axe. And even though at some point, Greil later tells her the truth about the medallion, his past, who killed Elena, she sticks with him no matter what, eventually even helping Boyd learn how to fight with an axe.
For Muarim, Tormod is the leader of the Laguz Emancipation Army. Muarim supports Tormod in whatever he wants to do, and is willing to lie and claim to be the leader of the Laguz Emancipation Army so that Tormod is not harmed. Muarim is also willing to stay in an army with Izuka (a sadistic man who likes to drug, warp, twist, and hurt laguz for funsies, and did so to Muarim) in it because Tormod wants to help his friend, even though Tormod was conflicted about staying longer because of what Izuka had done to Muarim.
I find it so funny that of the two Tellius parents in the the @best-fe-parent-tournament, neither of them are biological parents and in Titania's case, aside from being called Mom on accident, isn't even considered a parent.
I'm not saying they don't deserve to be in the tournament (they do) but the fact that Titania could win just amuses the heck out of me.
So who is Titania?
Titania is the deputy commander of the Greil Mercenaries, the organization that Ike eventually comes to lead. She's a former Crimean knight with long relationship with Greil, Ike's father, and has been in Ike's life since he was a toddler. After the death of Ike's mother and the founding of the Greil Mercenaries, Titania ended up stepping in as a surrogate mother to Ike and Mist.
The Greil Mercenaries are also full of very young members such as the brothers Oscar, Boyd, and Rolf who Titania watches over like her own children. (It's Boyd who calls Titania Mom.)
Titania is also closer to Soren than most other mercenaries, being the one who understands Soren the best (aside from Ike). To Soren's annoyance, Titania mother hens him when he's being prickly and hard to get along with.
Basically, even though Titania is not "Mom" to any of the Greil Mercenaries, she's the Team Mom to Greil's Team Dad dynamic, and she's a great leader and mentor to Ike and the others as they grow into themselves as adults.
Muarim is a bit different, because even though Tormod does not call him father, he did raise Tormod from when the youth was an infant.
So who is Muarim?
Muarim is a former slave who founded a liberation movement in Begnion. When the Greil Mercenaries first meet Tormod and Muarim, it's as enemies on the battlefield. If you have children like Mist, Rolf, or Sothe in your party, Muarim will avoid attacking them whenever possible.
When you recruit Muarim to your side, you learn that he raised a Beorc child named Tormod who he found orphaned and alone. Despite the fact that it was Beorc who kept him enslaved, Muarim couldn't bring himself to let a child die.
Tormod is a very pushy and outgoing young man, very different from the reserved and submissive Muarim, but they two are very patient with each other and it's clear to see that Tormod loves Muarim as much as Muarim loves Tormod.

has anything been on your mind about Engage recently? I keep thinking about the fact that while we don't learn a ton about any of the countries, we learn a bit and, for most of them, can talk with the regular citizens on some of the maps...but not Elusia bc most of the people were killed off in Sombron's zombie apocalypse, and it just makes me wonder about what Elusia's people would have been like if survivors of the corrupted had appeared in the Elusia post-battle areas. Like, we can get some idea of what the other three countries were like from random NPCs, but not Elusia, and it's been haunting me a bit
Engage hasn't been in my mind as much lately because I'm too busy suffering through 3H and there's still no end in sight for that one, but on one hand I get why (especially because Sombron literally ate the only Elusian town we get to visit) and it is unnerving... but it's also a shame we get pretty much nothing about the Elusian commonfolk's lives.
Anyway, as to what I keep thinking about - I belive I've already mentioned this, but the fact that when Lumera finds Alear in Gradlon, there is seemingly no one accompanying her. What was she doing in Gradlon all alone?
And that got me thinking- by this point all of Lumera's loved ones are dead, Sombron seems undefeatable and she is the only Divine Dragon who's still alive.
My point is, she has little to no reasons to live by that point, and while I don't think she was actively suicidal... again, she was in Gradlon entirely by herself.
That's why she got so attached to Alear, I think. Not just out of sympathy for their plight, but because she could deeply relate to them despite the fact that, well. There's no way they don't have Divine Dragon blood on their hands.
So she goes back home in Lythos and invites Alear there and, well, we know how it goes from there. Lumera mentions having Alear as a child was her greatest joy and I honestly believe that's an understatement.
Lumera may have spent a thousand years giving Alear her life force and the means to come back from the dead twice, but Alear unkowingly gave her a reason to live those thousand years to begin with.
Their relationship is a lot more reciprocated than you'd think at first, and I just. Love them so much😭
Lumera may not have won the Best FE Parent Tournament but she's still best mom to me

Fire Emblem Sibling Duo Tournament: Round 1 - Match 13
Propaganda for both duos under cut:
Oscar & Rolf:
Boyd is included in spirit. When you drop out of the military when your parents just died and now you have to be the parent to your younger siblings. He's doing his best. So Rolf get off the battlefield please. Rolf's desire to help his brothers out (not just from learning to fight but also from earning extra money through fletching) is both cute and sad because it means he picks up on all the insecurities his older siblings have and grows up too quickly. classic fe child soldier
Ninian & Nils:
They stick together, they protect each other, if Ninian is in love with Eliwood, Nils will give them his blessing and let them be together, I love them and they are my children

Bubbles | Han Jisung
✧ Genre: Inspired by Fire Emblem: Awakening [gaius x fe!my unit], fantasy!au, comedy sorta, hella fluff, major angst my dudes, death//violence
✧ Summary: You were one of the many children sent back in time to help change the future - your reality. Along the way, you reminisce on old memories with a childhood friend that calls you quite the endearing name; bubbles.
✧ Word Count: 4.7k
✧ Check out my masterlist!
✧ Warning: graphic violence,, like I didn’t hold back kids - also spoilers for FE: Awakening sooo
✧
You fucking told Minho that there was absolutely no way he could suddenly go back in time to try and save the life of his aunt, who had been a peaceful sort of woman from the stories you had heard growing up. She had been a beam of hopefulness to your people and their country, especially after the past exalt had only brought destruction and misery to another foreign land who’s citizens rightfully came to despise those of your motherland. After her untimely demise during an assassination plot, it was as if everything had gone tumbling downwards - the reality in which you had been raised in had come crashing down in a wake of burning buildings and slain lives of innocent people.
But you had been approached by the very son of the past exalt - Lee Minho. Neither of you knew each other all too well, though he had heard of your strength and strategy on the battlefield during passing conversations. He had requested an audience with you, to which you hesitantly obliged, and then proceeded to tell you his masterplan; he would open a portal back into the past and save his aunt’s life, therefor saving your reality - their future. You, of course, had your doubts and expressed them urgently - if he was accidently killed during his mission, then there would be no telling of what might happen to him in the future. It was a risk you weren’t willing to take.
So, naturally, you tagged along with the prince up until the very day he opened the portal, only to be separated when the ugly creatures in your world called Risen fell through into the past as well. The hideous, violent creatures chased you until you stumbled upon a little village, where a sly girl with a strong sword arm and red hair helped you kill the bastards so that they wouldn’t bring harm to the village. She didn’t ask too many questions, thankfully, and simply gave you some basic supplies for your journey to the palace - she didn’t ask about that, either.
When you did finally reach the palace, you were surprised to notice that Minho hadn’t arrived before you had - you prayed that he perhaps took a detour to avoid the Risen, or something of that manner. One of the guards on duty, a pegasus knight with short, baby blue hair, bought your pathetic story of wishing to be a Shephard; Minho had told you that it was a band of righteous warriors his own father had led in his youth, so you could only assume that they were around still. When she led you into a shabby sort of barracks, however, your jaw had gaped so wide that the woman wondered if you had seen a frightening ghost.
Your own father, whom you hadn’t seen in years since his death, was sat only a few feet away from you, stuffing his mouth with pastries and jerky like a madman. He was donned in heavy green and silver armor, and his trusty sword was resting in its holster - he seemed more happy, more... youthful, for obvious reasons. The last time you had seen him, he had started to grow tiny gray hairs from stress and worry, and his lips were always curled into a fake smile for your own sake, as if you didn’t know any better back then.
“These are just a few of the Shepherds under Chrom’s command: the one with the iron axe is Vaike, the one struggling to carry the boxes without falling is Sumia, and the one currently eating like it’s his last damn meal is Stahl.”
“Hmpf-! I - I am not eating that much, I swear!” The man in green defended himself, wiping his lips from any crumbs as he stood tall to meet your gaze with a warm, friendly smile. “Nice to meet you, mam! Seem a bit young to be with us, but we’ll take what we can get!”
You laughed quietly, chewing on the inside of your cheek to keep from smiling so hard it would hurt. “My father was an excellent rider and swordsman, and he taught me everything he knew. I won’t become a burden, I swear it, sir.”
“Oh really? What’s his name, is he a famous rider?”
“Ah, you wouldn’t know him. But... he was the bravest man I ever knew.”
I found you, father.
The next couple of weeks were like a blur to you - while you helped the Shepherds defend their land and slaughter Risen left and right, you were left to wonder if another other visitors from your reality had fallen through the portal. If that was the case, you needed to find them, and fast. Luckily the gods had been smiling down on you, as only a short while later Minho had reappeared, though he was wearing a mask to hide his appearance and called himself Marth, likely using it as a ruse to hide his identity.
The first time you had found the prince again, was during a tournament where Chrom had to challenge the West khan - it was a bit complicated, honestly; to win the support of the East khan, you all had to make sure you were her champions and beat the other khan, since their people believed far more in power than regular diplomacy. Whoever's champions won meant that the specific khan with their support would be the sole ruler of their country until the next tournament.
You’d been hopping onto the saddle of your horse when you heard Chrom hiss under his breath as if he was shocked. Naturally your gaze trailed over to where he had been looking, and within seconds you recognized the warrior across the battlefield; it was Minho, but he was wearing a mask and new clothes. While to anyone else it seemed a bit strange, you knew he was only being cautious. Still, you were expected to fight him and the other warriors on the side of the West khan, whether you liked it or not.
You got out of the fight with just a scratch, unlike the warriors representing the West khan. The entire fight you made sure to stay as far away from the hidden prince as much as physically possible, since you figured he would rather get the chance to fight his own father for the first time in ages. What amused you, though, was the fact that you knew damn well Minho had purposefully lost the battle - he had been trained by Chrom for crying out loud, he was by far the best fighter in your time; he only let himself be defeated so the events leading up to the big night of his aunt’s assassination could play out normally. Couldn’t risk too much change, after all.
Like normal, the East khan offered the support of the Ferox soldiers to Chrom and his sister, and soon you were waiting for everything to unravel itself. In the meantime, you caught up with your father and your mother - both of them were still blissfully unaware of who you were to them, which only made battling alongside them harder than you could have ever imagined. You wanted to ride alongside the Bull and the Panther once more, where they knew you were their sole daughter, and that they had taught you everything you knew up until now. Yet the good thing to come out of it all was being able to see your own parents fall in love all over again, for you, at least.
“You’re damn strong, Stahl, but your movements are so timid they wouldn’t even scare a mouse!” Your mother chastised the young man, stabbing the tip of her lance into the soil beneath their feet.
“Ah, I may be strong, but I don’t think I’ll ever be as strong as you are, Sully. Actually, you’re probably the strongest of all the Shepherds.” The brunette laughed softly, making your lips twitch into an endearing smile from behind the piles of hay you were sat behind, listening to your parents talk to each other like old times.
“Pah! How can you call yourself a knight if you crap out so soon? The legendary knights who served Marth would never give up so easily.”
“You mean Cain and Abel? The Bull and Panther from the old stories?”
You hold back a giggle as you listen to them, bickering like a married couple. The back of your head hits the yellow hay when you relax into it, your eyelids fluttering shut in peace at the reminiscent sound of your parents arguing over the simplest of things. Maybe Minho would truly be able to fix everything after all, and you would be able to be with your family again, like normal.
That same night, Minho had appeared from the shadows again, just in the nick of time to stop the assassination of the exalt - and convince Chrom that he was indeed someone from the future. You had gotten to fight side by side with the man that night as well, to help him defend the door separating the coming onslaught of Plegians from the woman he had just saved. Still, as quick as he had come, he was gone right after the battle had ended, leaving you worried and alone. You weren’t sure what to do, since she had been saved and Minho had disappeared yet again - so you just kept traveling with the Shepherds.
And then It was all for nothing - later, Emmeryn had been captured by the Plegians, and was meant to be executed. When the exalt heard the enemy leader offering Chrom the chance to save her by giving him the Fire Emblem, she sacrificed herself. You remembered clearly, watching the kind leader falling through the air until her body hit the ground beneath her with a sickening thud, her brother still racing to try and reach her in time - but he hadn’t.
The exalt had died, even after you and Minho had travelled through time itself to try and save her.
And again Minho reappeared sometime later, revealing himself to be Chrom’s son - he had shown the doubtful prince the brand in his eye, marking him as the same bloodline of Chrom himself. Then, Minho had explained who you were, and why you came with him - only to be separated when you both arrived to the past. Together, the both of them encouraged you to tell your parents who you were, and where you came from.
Stahl had immediately started crying and ran over to your smaller body, tackling you into a warm bear hug. And even though she tried to hide them, you vividly remembered seeing the scarlet haired woman’s eyes glisten with unspoken emotions when she joined in on the hug, albeit briefly before going to think things over in her quarters - not that you exactly blamed her, either.
Then it was like the other children from the future had started appearing out of nowhere, with your band of Shepherds coming across them so often you easily lost count of who had and had not been recruited into the army. While you now were somewhat alliances with the Plegians, the kingdom of Valm had started to wage war against your homeland in return, for no real reason other than the desire to conquer. With so many new experienced recruits, though, you were sure that your army stood a chance against the ferocious conquerors of the west.
Even now, the army had taken a quick break from training and set up camp near a port where it was rumored that some of Valm’s soldiers would set foot on in a few days time, just to try and provoke the exalt, Chrom.
Your muscles were practically screaming at you to take a rest, so you obliged and slumped down against a stray crate likely filled with rations or weapons, not that you cared which was which. A soft, airy breath escaped your lips as you took a minute to recuperate, watching as your parents set off to tie their horses to a post.
“My fair maiden, if I were to theoretically take a couple of apples from the rations, would you rat me out to Chrom or Minho?” A whimsical voice purred next to your ear, but before you could reply honestly, the person speaking had already opened the crate you’d been leaning against and grabbed the fruit, plopping down beside you on the grass. “Here, you need to eat. You’ve been training for hours, Y/N.” Jisung murmured, forcing one of the two red apples into your hands while he took a hearty bite of his own.
Feeling a bit too tired to argue with the persistent boy, you go ahead and take a bite of the delicious fruit, a moan of thankfulness seeping through your lips while you chewed. The blonde boy snickered in amusement and watched as you scarfed down the snack, making sure all the while that no one who passed by you two saw that you were taking a bit of the rations.
“Thank you, Jisung-”
“Han, bubbles! My name is Han.” He hissed sourly.
“That’s your stupid codename you used when we were kids, genius. It isn’t your real name.” You retorted, flicking the sour boy’s forehead. “Besides, I know why you insist on going by Han for now - you still haven’t told Gaius that you're his kid-”
“Shhh, bubbles! He could be around any corner.” He hushed you quickly, smashing one of his palms over your lips. You rolled your eyes, licking his hand to get him to swing it away from your mouth in mild disgust.
“I just don’t understand why you haven’t told him or the tactician yet. They deserve to know, Jisung.” You tell him softly, placing your hand over the one you had licked comfortingly, rubbing the pad of your thumb over the top of his hand. The boy sighed almost inaudibly and glanced across the camp, your gaze following his.
The legendary tactician that served Chrom herself, and his father, Gaius, were squabbling over something. Everyone from the future knew too well that those two were Jisung’s parents, as he had always bragged about them in your time period, in the future - even after their deaths.
“I just -” he paused, his fingertips digging into the grass, “I’m so scared that they won’t approve of me. After everything my father did to become a good man for my mother, I ended up being just like he is now, erm… was.”
Your heart ached for the timid boy and how fearful he was to possibly be disapproved of by the people his parents were now. He had followed in his father’s footsteps, to an extent - Jisung was a seasoned thief and assassin, and he was feared in your time for being so stealthy and of course, deadly. But his father had grown out of that phase long before he was born, and you understood why the blonde was troubled about revealing the truth to two of the most respected people in the country.
Still, you flipped his hand over so you could gently intertwine your fingers with his own, squeezing them reassuringly as he glanced over at you. “Jisung, they would be so proud to be your parents. You were their pride and joy, don’t you remember?” You reminded him, your lips twitching into a warm smile as he nods at your words.
And you were right, of course; the mother and father of the blonde assassin never failed to boast about their son. It was a known fact that even during strategy meetings his mother would somehow find a way to mention him, though most of the time he had nothing to do with any of it. The way Jisung’s parents died was... horrific, to say the least, and it left a scar on him to this very day.
“Y/N, watch your flank!” Jisung hissed at you, his back pressed against yours while his sword clashed with a Risen’s, glancing back to you whenever he could.
With a quick swing you were able to pierce the heart of another foul beast that had tried to catch you off guard, it’s heavy body falling against the wet ground with a sickly thud. “Thanks, Jisung!” You called back to the concerned boy, wiping your soaked hair out of your eyes before another beast could try and surprise you. “I think - I think that’s all of those bastards down here. Hyunjin and Seungmin can handle the one’s by the hilltops-”
“Mother? F-father?”
Eyebrows furrowed in confusion as to why your partner was calling out to his parents when they were on a different part of the battlefield, you turned to face him, only to see his eyes widened in horror. You followed his gaze, only to feel your stomach start to churn in fear.
The battle force his parents had been leading against the oncoming horde of Risen had been totally wiped out and pushed back much farther than anyone could have expected; and his mother and father were completely surrounded on the top of a tiny slope by the ugly purple monsters. The storm was only getting worse with each passing second, strikes of bright yellow lightning cracking in the dark sky while the rain continued to pelt down onto the battlefield.
Gaius’s signature headband had been torn to shreds, and in its place were long claw marks slashed across the pale man’s face and part of his head, part of his ear missing along with his orange hair being matted to the top of his head. The master tactician was faring no better, her robes nearly shredded to pieces while the arm that clung to her thunder tome bled from various bite and scratch marks. You could only watch in growing horror as a Risen general drove his spear into the woman’s stomach, the tip of the steel weapon poking through her back and sticking itself into the muddy ground. Her husband screamed at the sight of his wife - the love of his life being murdered in cold blood right in front of him.
The ex-thief rushed forward, defending his wife’s limp, bleeding body until the stronger monsters overpowered him and brought him to the ground, pummeling his smaller body like a twig.
Then the horde of Risen began to charge at the remnants of your army, brandishing their bloodied weapons with sickening pride. You grab hold of Jisung’s arm, trying to drag him away before the enemies reached your positions. “W-we need to go Ji-”
“No!” His heartbroken scream tore through the gloomy atmosphere, his body thrashing hopelessly against yours in an attempt to escape. “I can’t leave them here, please - please!” You could tell by his whimpers and pleading that he too knew it would be impossible to retrieve their bodies, but his heart wanted him to fight until he couldn't anymore. Without another word he stopped resisting, instead grabbing hold of your hand so he could lead you away from the carnage safely and reunite with the other survivors.
“Of course I remember, bubbles.” Jisung let out a warm chuckle, leaning back against the wooden panels of the rations crate. “I’ll tell them soon, I promise. But... how did you tell Stahl and Sully that they - you know... died?”
You don’t flinch at the question like Jisung clearly expected you to, instead scooching closer to the taller boy so you could rest your head on his shoulder. When you told your own mother and father of their untimely demise, they only got the basic recounting, as you didn't think you would’ve been able to stomach remembering everything that happened.
Ever since Chrom and his wife had been killed in the fight for survival against the Risen army, as well as many of the other original Shepherds, your mother and father were tasked with leading the army as best as they could in their places. It tore the two apart each day, and you saw the grief swimming in their eyes whenever the deaths of their beloved comrades were brought up. Still, they had to lead now - they couldn't dwell on the past.
If they had wanted to anyway, they wouldn't have been able to for much longer.
You had been strolling around camp, too anxious to get any sleep in your tent that you shared with the other younger soldiers. So you went out for a midnight stroll to try and clear your mind, though you made sure not to stroll too far from camp.
At some point you had come across a beautiful blue lake. There were two familiar bodies standing by the water’s edge; your parents. With a fond smile you decided to hide behind a tree and listen to them talk - perhaps they would be reminiscing on the old times, and you could involuntarily learn more of their past without prying about it so much in person.
While you were honed in on eavesdropping, you hadn't noticed a shadowy presence being to make its way towards the unsuspecting couple, a scroll tight in the stranger’s fingers. The figure silently cast out an equally as dark, mysterious energy out onto your mother before they vanished as quickly as they had came.
“- honey, what’s wrong? Sully - what are you doing-!” You heard your father’s voice become riddled with fear in a matter of seconds, so you peeked out from behind the oak tree, only to witness your mother driving her lance into her husband’s chest with no remorse. When she pulled her prized weapon out of her husband’s guts, she turned it onto herself and mimicked what she had done to him, driving it through her chest.
You let out a scream, knowing it would likely alert those in the camp not too far away from where you were, and stumbled over to the two bodies sprawled out on the green grass, pools of crimson red blood growing under their bodies. First you check your mother’s pulse, only to feel nothing. A tear runs down your cheek as you quickly go to see if maybe your father is still somehow alive - and he is.
Still the great knight is just barely holding onto his life, spurts of blood seeping over his chapped lips while his oddly calm gaze searches for your frantic eyes.
“S-Sully did n-not do this, my child.” Had been his final words.
At the brink of death, your selfless father had chosen to defend his wife’s honor and integrity until the very end. It was something that would haunt you until the day you too died.
“Honestly? I told them that they had died together by a lake, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell them the truth of it all - I’m a coward, aren’t I?” You breathed out shakily, your eyes beginning to water as you reminisced on their final days in the future.
The assassin next to you shook his head vehemently before he carefully turned so that he was sat in front of you, pressing your knees together while his warm hands found your shoulders, squeezing them to reassure and to calm your nerves. “Bubbles, you are not a coward, nor will you ever be. You’re the bravest person I know next to our parents, I swear it.” He whispered to you, pulling you into a tight embrace while you sniffed into his chest, a few stray tears making their way down your damp cheeks.
Little did either of you know that four familiar faces had been watching the whole thing.
A short while later, you found out that Jisung had come clean to his parents about his origin, and how he was their son from the future - he, like you, had apparently chosen not to give them the full story of their demise, which did reassure you in a sense. Although, one thing that confused you was the fact that he refused to introduce you to his parents - now, that is, since you sort of knew them in the original timeline.
“But Jisung, I want to talk to them!” You whined to the blonde boy for the fifth time in a row, tightening your hold around his neck since you had your arms slung around his top half while he supported your legs that were wrapped around his waist.
He rolled his eyes, knowing you couldn’t see them, and pinched the underside of your calves. “Maybe later, alright bubbles? They're very busy right now, especially my mother.” Jisung huffed.
Of course you knew this was true, since the older Shepherds were starting to finalize a plan to get rid of the commander of the troops from Valm, so that the war could be ended before it became all the more destructive. You and the other kids from the future occasionally gave them some advice, but other than that a majority of you were left to your own devices; not including Minho, though. The prince was doubling down on making sure everything went according to plan, especially since none of you were sure what your futures looked like now after everything that had occurred since you all went back in time.
“I know, I know... hey, isn't that them right over there?” You hummed in curiosity, peeking out from beside the boy’s head to see the man and woman in question walking in your direction. “Gaius, -” Your words are cut off abruptly by Jisung planting his palm over your lips quickly, the boy rushing to hide behind one of the tents before his parents could spot the two of you.
“Did you hear someone calling for me, bubbles?” Gaius asks the tactician, and unknowing to them you can feel your eyes widen in shock - you could have sworn bubbles was your nickname given to you by Jisung; did his father overhear it and decide to use it for himself?
“Probably just the wind, Gaius.” The woman snorts teasingly, the pair stopping just a few feet away from where you and their own son are hiding. “Speaking of... I was thinking earlier,”
“That’s a miracle, dear!”
“Shut it before I shock you with my magic, you dirty thief!” She snapped, whacking the orange haired man with her tome. “I was thinking about how Jisung calls his friend, Y/N, bubbles too. I thought it was my nickname.”
You can feel the boy holding you up take a sharp intake of air, and if you dared to look at his plush, chubby cheeks, you would’ve been able to see how they flushed a deep red.
“He takes after his father, I suppose. It is pretty obvious how he’s basically in love with her, after all.” Gaius snickers. “I mean, I don’t ever see myself not calling you bubbles now, so my guess is that the boy calls her the same thing since it clearly worked on you.”
“Worked on me? What is that supposed to mean you little-”
Their voices start to fade away as they begin to walk again, leaving you with a very stunned and silent Jisung still holding you up on his back. You slowly slipped down off of his back, going to step in front of him with pink cheeks. His eyes start to look anywhere but you, at least, until you smoosh his cute red cheeks together and (gently) force him to look you in the eyes.
“Jisung? Do you - um...” You trail off, becoming flustered with how fast your poor little heart is beating in your chest.
“Y-yeah, I do, bubbles.” He murmurs between his squished cheeks and lips, his shaking hands coming to rest over the top of yours that are still making him keep steady eye contact with you. “If - if you don’t feel the same way, I understand-”
“I love you too, Jisung!” You say without thinking, not wanting him to even think for a second that you didn't feel the same way. His lips curl into a nervous but bright smile, and before you know it he’s gone to press them against your own into a shaky, innocent kiss.
When he pulls away, he rests his forehead against yours.
“So... I can still call you bubbles, right?”
“Only if I can start calling you squirrel.”
“Deal!”

Her blindness does not deter her; she is able to sense things that no one else can, such as miniscule vibrations with her feet. She picks up on cues in the environment before others do, noticing that Appa is shedding fur and that this is how the Gaang keeps getting tracked down (“The Chase”). She enjoys all things physical, participating in earthbending tournaments for the thrill of the fight (“The Blind Bandit”). She prefers to show her affection physically, by punching her friends in the arm, rather than verbally. Toph makes split-second decisions, such as when she chooses to run away from home to teach Aang earthbending.
Ti [Introverted Thinking]: What Toph lacks in physical strength she makes up for with her sharp wit and tough exterior. She’s very open-minded, not understanding why Aang, Katara, and Sokka (who all have Si in their stacks) are insistent on judging Zuko by his past actions (“The Western Air Temple”). This seems irrational to Toph because she does not view the past subjectively as they do; she observes (Se) that Zuko’s present actions do not match his past actions and concludes that he should be treated the way his present actions warrant, especially because it’s rational to allow him to join the group since Aang needs a firebending teacher. Toph is also able to come up with inventive solutions to problems, inventing a whole new style of bending when she is trapped in a metal box (“The Guru”).
Fe [Extroverted Feeling]: Toph sometimes struggles to make sense of and take into account other people’s feelings. She doesn’t understand why she needs to contribute to the group because she would prefer to just fend for herself (“The Chase”). She rejects Katara’s suggestion to take on a more encouraging attitude toward Aang during his earthbending training, remaining abrasive (“Bitter Work”). Nevertheless, Toph still cares what people think about her, as evidenced by her reaction when girls make fun of her appearance (“The Tales of Ba Sing Se”). She initially hesitates to run away from home in fear of disappointing her parents (“The Blind Bandit”). She wants her parents to love and accept her despite her reluctance to admit it. She likes being admired and wants people to know how good of an earthbender she is, reveling in the adoration of the crowd when she wins earthbending tournaments. Toph tends to be expressive with her emotions, never afraid to let someone know when she doesn’t like something. She has a need to talk about her feelings sometimes and have them be understood, telling Zuko that her parents “never gave [her] the one thing [she] really wanted: their love,” and asking if he can relate (“The Phoenix King”).
Ni [Introverted Intuition]: Toph’s dominant Se makes her a bit impulsive at times, and as a result, she can’t always foresee the consequences of her actions. This gets her into trouble when she is wanted for her scams (“The Runaway”). She doesn’t really a plan for the future; she very much lives in the moment, moving quickly from one experience to the next.
Enneagram [cp6w7]: Toph may like to pretend that she doesn’t have any fears, but she does. Although she seeks independence, she is also loyal to a fault and has trouble leaving/letting go of her parents. She secretly rebels against their authority while simultaneously wanting their support and acceptance. She is similar to an 8 in that she responds aggressively to her fears, but she only does so when pushed to the limit, often by someone (usually Katara) probing her underlying insecurities. Toph also has a playful side (7-wing); she rarely passes up an opportunity for fun, whether that means pulling scams (“The Runaway”) or becoming the “Melon Lord” (“The Phoenix King”).

Gustavo’s Great Tortilla Tournament, week 1 recap: Trader Joe’s makes good corn tortillas?
Cover photo by Julia Navarro.
That was a lot of eating. Evan Kleiman, Nick Liao and Connie Alvarez and I plowed through the first round of 64 tortillas. And we now have our second round contestants!
Excuse us if we don’t offer many tasting notes this time around, but we’re stuffed. We tasted each tortilla at our homes, from packs obtained that day to ensure maximum freshness. Each judge had their own personal criteria for taste, but it boiled down to whether corn tasted like corn, and whether flour had taste, period— because most retail flour tortillas in Southern California are little better than wallpaper.
As the tournament advances, we’ll have more to say on each winning contestant.
For now, here are brief notes on the Round 1 matchups. Results of Round 2 will be revealed next Wednesday!
Follow the competition here.
CORN
EVAN KLEIMAN BRACKET
Evan wants everyone to know that the losers, in general, were either “sour, bitter from additives, or lacked that supple, nearly gel, quality of a great tortilla.”
#1 La Princesita vs. #16 Guerrero: La Princesita.
East LA classic beats America’s top-selling corn tortilla.
El Metate tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#8 El Metate vs. #9 La Tolteca: La Tolteca.
Evan found the tortillas of this Azusa tortilleria at a carniceria near Squrl and has loved them ever since. La Tolteca beat one of OC’s pioneering tortillerias.
#5 La Venadita vs. #12 Cardenas: La Venadita.
South Bay mini-chain advances past the biggest Mexican supermarket chain in the Inland Empire.
#4 Puntas Cabras vs. #13 La Corona: La Corona
Upset alert of sorts. The popular Santa Monica eatery makes great corn tortillas, but they were no match for this long-running San Fernando Valley spot.
#6 El Gallo Giro vs. #11 Kernel of Truth: Kernel of Truth
I’m not sure why we ranked Kernel of Truth—one of the big, local players in the heirloom masa scene—so low but the El Gallo Giro taco chain (which also makes great aguas frescas) ain’t no slouch, either. Nevertheless, Kernel advances.
#3 Amapola Market vs. #14 La Mano Tortilleria: Amapola.
The Downey institution rebounded from its masa debacle from a couple of years ago to beat a Pico Rivera tortilleria with one of the best tortilla labels in the Southland—literally, a photo of a hand.
#7 Northgate vs. #10 La Mazorca: La Mazorca.
Riverside for the win against the largest Latino supermarket chain in Orange County.
Trader Joe’s corn tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#2 La Flor de Mexicali vs. #15 Trader Joe’s: Trader Joe’s
The biggest upset of the tournament by far. La Flor de Mexicali is widely acknowledged as making the best corn tortillas in Orange County, yet lost to Trader Joe’s (whose corn tortillas Evan described as a “decent everyday tortilla”). Maybe La Flor had an off day? Maybe LA is better than Orange County?
EVAN BRACKET ROUND 2 MATCHUPS
#1 La Princesita vs. #9 La Tolteca.
#5 La Venadita vs. #13 La Corona
#11 Kernel of Truth vs. #3 Amapola
#15 Trader Joe’s vs. #10 La Mazorca
NICK LIAO BRACKET
Taco Maria’s blue corn tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#1 Taco Maria vs. #16 El Super: Taco Maria
No surprise here—Taco Maria chef Carlos Salgado gets heirloom corn from Mexico and nixtamalizes it himself. El Super mass-produces theirs.
#8 Ruben’s Tortilleria vs. #9 Vallarta’s: Ruben’s
Most taco trucks in Orange County uses Ruben’s, and they make a fine product. They beat the pioneering L.A.-area Vallarta’s supermarket chain.
#5 Los Cinco Puntos vs. #12 Maria’s Tortillas: Los Cinco Puntos
Another East L.A. classic advances.
#4 La Imperial vs. #13 Tortilleria La Fiesta: Tortilleria La Fiesta
Strong Beach in the house! The small La Fiesta beats yet another East L.A. standard.
#6 Miramar Tortilleria vs. #11 Hornitos Mercado: Miramar
Miramar is currently the corn tortilla of choice for the parents of Gustavo, and Gustavo says they’re “thick, dark yellow to the point of brown, and perfect for quesadillas.”
#3 El Toro Market vs. #14 La Gloria Mexican Foods: La Gloria
Evan swears by the tortilla chips of El Toro, a famous Santa Ana tortilleria. But La Gloria has been in business since 1954, and has kept its reputation intact for fine corn. Statistically a big upset, but ultimately, not really.
#7 Tortilleria La California vs. #10 Expresion Oaxaqueña: La California
A Glassell Park favorite beats one of the few tortillerias in Southern California that specializes in Oaxacan-style corn tortillas.
Superior corn tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#2 Guisados vs. #15 Superior Grocers: Guisados
The Boyle Heights taqueria easily beats the largest locally owned Latino supermarket chain in Southern California.
NICK BRACKET ROUND 2 MATCHUPS:
#1 Taco Maria vs. #8 Ruben’s Tortilleria
#5 Los Cinco Puntos vs. #13 Tortilleria La Fiesta
#6 Miramar Tortilleria vs. #14 La Gloria Mexican Foods
#7 Tortilleria La California vs. #2 Guisados
FLOUR
CONNIE ALVAREZ BRACKET
#1 Burritos La Palma vs. #16 Mission: La Palma
An easy win. La Palma was one of the caterers at Jonathan Gold’s funeral; Mission is the top-selling flour tortilla in the United States, because Americans don’t know any better.
Nancy’s flour tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#8 Nancy’s Tortilleria vs. #9 Northgate: Northgate
The biggest Latino supermarket chain in Orange County beats a Pomona tortilleria
#5 Romero’s vs. #12 Leyva’s Mexican Food: Romero’s
The battle of Santa Fe Springs! Costco’s go-to flour tortilla brand advances against a smaller competitor.
#4 Mexicali Taco vs. #13 El Marranito: Mexicali Taco
One of the pioneers of the Sonora-style tortilla movement in SoCal beats a Pico Rivera spot.
#6 Homestate vs. #11 La Reina Market: Homestate
The one Tex-Mex entry in this tournament beats an Orange County mini-chain whose flour tortillas Gustavo likes.
Ortega 120 flour tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#3 Carrillo’s Tortilleria vs. #14 Ortega 120: Carrillo’s
Carrillo’s has been in business in the San Fernando Valley for over 70 years for a reason: Their thick tortillas are buttery and wonderful. Ortega 120 makes in-house flour tortillas for their restaurant, but can’t get past the legend.
#7 Jimenez Market vs. #10 Casablanca: Jimenez Market
Casablanca is a pioneering restaurant on the Westside; Jimenez has locations only in Pomona and Santa Ana, and only make tortillas once a week. But they’re powdery and fluffy and move on into the next round.
#2 Loqui vs. #15 Trader Joe’s: Loqui
Trader Joe’s flour tortillas aren’t better than their corn ones, so they don’t advance here versus the Culver City restaurant.
CONNIE BRACKET ROUND 2 MATCHUPS
#1 Burritos La Palma vs. #9 Northgate
#5 Romero’s vs. #4 Mexicali Taco
#6 Homestate vs. #3 Carrillo’s
#7 Jimenez Market vs. #2 Loqui
GUSTAVO ARELLANO BRACKET
#1 La Azteca Tortilleria vs. #16 El Super: La Azteca.
El Super makes surprisingly good flour tortillas that puff up like a good flour tortilla is supposed to. But they can’t beat the pride of East Los Angeles’ flour tortilla scene.
Ramona’s flour tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#8 Acapulco Tortilleria vs. #9 Ramona’s Mexican Foods: Acapulco
Two decades-old tortilla factories go head-to-head, and Acapulco advances.
#5 La Monarca vs. #12 Cardenas Market: La Monarca
La Monarca is more famous for its pan dulce, but they started selling flour tortillas in packs a couple of years ago. They advance past Cardenas.
Diana’s flour tortillas. Photo by Christopher Ho.
#4 Diana’s vs. #13 Maxi Foods: Diana’s
Even if you’ve never tasted Diana’s you know their label: a blue-tinted photo of a young girl who’s the titular Diana. She advances past the Riverside mini-chain.
#6 Graciana Tamale Factory vs. #11 El Comal: Graciana
The El Comal label is a relative newbie compared to Graciana, which is more than 80 years old and sells its flour tortillas across Southern California. El Comal is a relative newcomer to SoCal’s tortilla scene—still time to improve!
#3 Salazar vs. #14 First Street: Salazar
First Street is the okay brand for Smart & Final; unsurprisingly, they lose to the Frogtown restaurant.
#7 La Fortaleza vs. #10 Vallarta’s: La Fortaleza
La Fortaleza is another mass tortilla maker with a decades-long presence in Southern California. They beat Vallarta’s.
#2 Sonoratown vs. #15 Superior Grocers: Sonoratown
Sonoratown is the only entry in the tournament that doesn’t sell their tortillas retail, or in a bunch—to taste their wonder, you’ll have to go and order one of their Sonora-style burritos or tacos. Maybe they’ll sell you one individual one. That’s how precious and delicious they are. Superior Grocers stood no chance.
GUSTAVO BRACKET ROUND 2 MATCHUPS
#1 La Azteca vs. #8 Acapulco
#5 La Monarca vs. #4 Diana’s
#6 Graciana Tamale Factory vs. #3 Salazar
#7 La Fortaleza vs. #2 Sonoratown

30 Years of GamBoy: How I persevered through the 90s with Nintendo's green-and-black portable as my best friend!
Over the past couple weeks social media has been buzzing with tributes and testimonials for the legacy of the GameBoy on its 30th anniversary of its Japan launch and fast approaching North American launch in 1989. There was also that pic a couple weeks ago of Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson playing linked two player Tetris that went viral that sent waves of nostalgia down my spine! Like countless other 90s kids I had a devout affection for the GameBoy’s (and its 1998 Color update) enduring legacy into 2001 when its true successor, the GameBoy Advance launched. So it is time to lay out my history with the little gray brick that could, but before I do I would be remiss if I were not to point you towards someone who has been doing phenomenal work chronicling the GameBoy’s history first. Retronauts host, Jeremy Parish has been painstakingly crafting videos detailing every GameBoy release for America and Japan in chronological order and currently is nearing the end of covering games released through 1990. So if you want to catch up and find out about the early hits and likely a plethora of titles you have never heard of before, then click here to dive in.
Unlike a lot of the excellent retrospectives I have been reading these past couple of weeks, minus a couple exceptions, I did not play that many of the AAA GameBoy titles from Nintendo. I was a sucker for licenses from my favorite sports leagues and watered down ports of the latest console games as you will later read about. It was not until I much later got the Official GameBoy Player’s Guide with my first Nintendo Power subscription a few years after I got a GameBoy that I realized what were the key titles for the system. However even after re-reading that bible of GameBoy knowledge multiple times I was adamant on avoiding the powerhouse first party titles like Super Mario Land, Metroid II, Link’s Awakening and Donkey Kong in favor for eye-blinking double take titles you will discover in a bit. My childhood preference of games went against the grain to say the least. With that out of the way, let us flashback to 1993…. I remember begging my parents for a GameBoy for Christmas in 1993 when I was 10. I cannot specifically remember why, but after ruminating about it I pinpointed it down to the fact in 1993 I still had a NES and my parents understandably did not want to budge on dropping $200 for the 16-bit upgrade. The GameBoy was at its height of its popularity at this time and advertisements for the green and black handheld dominated my Saturday morning cartoon lineup. The GameBoy launched at $90 in 1989 so by 1993 I think it was going for around $70 which seemed like a much more realistic sell to my folks at being my one-and-only ‘Santa’ gift for Christmas.
Also around this time I was going through serious pro-wrestling withdrawal. From about 1988 until early 1993 I was an avid WWF kiddo. Big Bossman and The Rockers were my favorites, and I have fond memories of braving the classrooms of Catholic school with my Big Bossman tennis shoes. However, growing up with three other siblings who detested the squared circle made it a battle for control of the household’s sole television. Eventually, the numbers game caught up and I got so use to being bullied out of getting my weekly then-WWF fix that I went nearly three years from early ’93 until late ’95 not watching my favorites on the airwaves. The only other way at that time for me to get my dose of wrestling at home was in the mostly mediocre-to-horrible wrestling games on NES. I played far too many hours of duds like Wrestlemania and Steel Cage Challenge than any kid should have, and double that for the decent at best grapplers on the system like Pro Wrestling and Tecmo World Wrestling. Enter 1993 and Royal Rumble for the Super Nintendo and Genesis. I lost track at the number of times I would play that game setup on free play at store kiosks. I was dazzled by Royal Rumble’s superior 16-bit graphics and standout feature, the Royal Rumble match that saw up to six wrestlers in the ring at once trying to throw everyone out and subsequently replaced with a fresh combatant until the game went through its entire 12-man roster. It seemed as close as it was going to get at the time to the insanely awesome Rumble match in one of my all-time favorite arcade games, WWF WrestleFest. Being able to participate in the chaos of the Royal Rumble match with a controller after endless hours of only one-on-one and tag team matches on various NES games was mind-blowing to 10-year old Dale. All the gaming magazines at the time were echoed my sentiments and gushed with glowing reviews which only served to exacerbate my demand.
Again I pleaded for a SNES and a copy of Royal Rumble for Christmas and again I was denied courtesy of its tall asking price. It was then I went with the aforementioned plan b for the GameBoy. Also hitting NES and GameBoy in 1993 was WWF King of the Ring. King of the Ring sported inferior 8-bit graphics and had a smaller roster of wrestlers and no awesome Royal Rumble match to play, but it did have the not-so-great King of the Ring tournament to play which was only a series of one-on-one matches, but most importantly it would be portable and I could play it anywhere and not have to worry about battling for control of the TV with my siblings to play it. Looking back now those were the catalysts to relentlessly ask my parents for the GameBoy. Growing up with divorced parents meant celebrating most holidays and birthdays twice. I got to celebrate Christmas first with my dad a few days before the actual date of Christmas and was elated to unwrap and discover my very own GameBoy with a copy of its killer-app, Tetris! Over the next couple of days I played an un-healthy amount of Tetris. ‘Gee, if this block-puzzle game I barely heard of before is this awesome, imagine how good the wrestling game would be’ naïve me daydreamed of at the time. However, before I could get to that moment, something unexpected and terrible transpired! On Christmas Eve I was with my family that night going to church for its annual Christmas Eve dinner gathering. To get through the night of being with my family I brought my new electronic best friend with me and snuck in as much Tetris as I could between bites. After we wrapped up and my family got back into the car to go back home my GameBoy was not as snugly tucked into my pocket as I thought and as I shut the car door my GameBoy slid out of my pocket and collided with the blunt force of me shutting the door onto it. As you can see in the screenshot here, the incident caused about 95% of the screen to get cracked and impossible to see and I balled my eyes out that entire night. Kids, do not bring your GameBoy to church or God will strike down upon you when least expected!
To make matters worse on Christmas morning the next day I opened up a copy of WWF King of the Ring for GameBoy from Santa. I plugged it into my cracked GameBoy and was stunned to see it still worked and played the music and it would display the miniscule amount of graphics that were possible in the tiny corners of the GameBoy screen that were not damaged. I must have begged my parents for days to see if they could get the GameBoy replaced or returned or something. I feel horrible now for how irritating I must have been at that time. To my surprise, my mom came through a week or two later and got me a new GameBoy. Once again I was thrilled and beyond belief of how those past couple weeks played out, but from then on I was extra careful with my GameBoy and to this day I still own both my busted and replacement brick GameBoys. For a few months all I had was Tetris and King of the Ring. I loved Tetris and even found a classmate to link up and play two player with a few times and it remains in my GameBoy library to this day! However, even with my childhood adoration for wrestling I could tell King of the Ring would be nothing more than a middling wrestling game and nothing compared to its 16-bit brethren (though it did have some rocking wrestler chiptune entrance themes). At this point a few months into 1994 our local videogame shop was a place called Tiger Play, which was essentially a modern day GameStop that bought, sold and traded new and used games. It was the same store where I persistently requested to put Royal Rumble for play in its kiosk to the chagrin of the employees. I have no idea how they tolerated me back then. I decided it was time to part ways with King of the Ring and trade it in for something else.
In early 1994 Mortal Kombat fever was running wild with the sequel dominating arcades and the home release being super popular with all my classmates. Mortal Kombat did not come out for NES, but it did for GameBoy and the now much wiser 11-year old Dale thought the GameBoy version would be just as good as the SNES, but only not in color and was thrilled to hear Tiger Play would happily do a straight-up trade of King of the Ring for Mortal Kombat. Right away I could tell something was not right to discover it was missing Johnny Cage from its roster and it ran a significantly slower framerate. I still remember having to ever--so—slowly--like--this input the button sequences for the special moves in order to get them to work. Even worse, facing Shang Tsung on there was super cheap because he would automatically cast a projectile when one input away from pulling off a special move so I had to learn to beat him without special moves which took forever, but I eventually pulled it off. The GameBoy version of MK did have one thing going for it over the rest and that would be it was the only version of MK that let you play as Goro! Goro was unstoppable, but even with that trump card, the handheld MK was pretty lousy, but I forced myself to get some enjoyment out of it before marching back to Tiger Play a few months later and trading MK in for Bo Jackson: Baseball and Football. Turns out ‘Bo Knows…’ how to endorse subpar sports game, but the sports nut in me played that to death for a couple years because Tiger Play closed its doors around this time and it would be a few years until our town got another videogame store. After that brief flirtation with trading games in I would only receive two games a year for GameBoy from 1994 through 1998 shortly before I got my first job and could afford my own games then. At that period in my life those two games a year meant everything to me. As hinted above, I was still drawn towards games based on my favorite licenses at that point and Bart vs. the Juggernauts was one of my early games I received as a present. The mini-game collection featured a lot of hair-pulling cheap controls, but I forced myself to stick with it and lit up when it became one of the first games I ever finished. A much better game I got as a present that I also finished was Donkey Kong Land. I have no idea how Rare was able to get graphics that seemed somewhat comparable to the SNES Donkey Kong Country, but I remember loving playing it, but being bummed at its lackluster ending of only ‘congratulations’ with no accompanying DK crew victory graphic. At least Bart vs. the Juggernauts had a wicked ending with Bart getting rewarded with his very own ‘Truck-a-Saurus.’
I learned my lesson from Bo Jackson and MK to do my research for better games on the GameBoy….actually no because I kept asking for more fighting and sports games for Christmas and birthdays, but at least getting varying degrees of better ones this time. The original NFL Quarterback Club on GameBoy I had a ton of fun with. It only featured the ‘Quarterback Club’ mini-games, but no actual game of football that was playable in its console versions. That was not a problem though as me and my siblings had a surprising amount of fun alternating back-and-forth with the various QB drill mini-games available and I could not help but crack up that my sister only played as Jim Kelley because of how close it sounded to ‘Jim Carrey’ who was wildly popular in the mid-90s. NFL Quarterback Club ‘96 was only actual football and no mini-games, but that was fine because it featured a far better handheld rendition of football compared to Bo Jackson and even a season mode with password save option! Yes, I still have my passwords saved inside the instruction manual. Ken Griffey Jr. Presents: MLB is an awesome port of the SNES original and blew away the baseball from Bo Jackson. It had a battery-save season mode along with the ability to trade players with no restrictions so I created my team of all-stars and rocked through an entire season throughout many family car rides. Mortal Kombat II is a huge upgrade from the first portable version, and while it also had a scaled back roster it did feature more precise gameplay, more friendly controls to pull off special moves and fatalities and a stable framerate resulting in me not trading this one away and playing it way too much.
That wraps up all the games I got as gifts and by the time I got my first job the GameBoy Color hit the market so I eagerly picked that up. There were a couple classmates over the years I met where we borrowed games to each other. I did not discover many new gems that way as most kids were also picking up the dreck of LJN licensed games and I could one can only tolerate so much out of WWF RAW, Fist of the North Star and Home Alone on GameBoy before getting out of the game borrowing market. I managed not to get swept up in PokeFever as I was just a couple years older than that targeted demographic. I did pick up Pokemon Blue shortly after its release after reading about the hype for it and got a little ways into it before my younger brother noticed me playing it and asked to borrow it around the time it was blowing up with younger kids so I did not mind letting him hold onto it until it for his GameBoy until he remembered to give it back to me about ten years later. Since the GameBoy Color was only on the market for a few years I will not meander on as long about it. With that said, the GameBoy Color far surpassed the meek GameBoy in every way with the exception of not having a backlit screen. Other than that, it was smaller, fit more comfortably in my pocket, took two less batteries and well….the addition of color! Yes, I picked up a few too many sports and wrestling games on it again that were mediocre at best, but I did have a lot of fun with some enhanced NES re-releases on there with Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, the first three Dragon Warrior games and Micro Machines 1 & 2: Twin Turbo. For original titles my favorites were Mario Golf and Mario Tennis. For people familiar with the recent Golf Story on Switch Mario Golf is a lot like that where it is a sports-RPG hybrid where it has a fairly in-depth narrative at attending a golf/tennis academy to become the best player and being able to take lessons and play mini-games to level-up and prepare for the tournaments. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe had a lot of fun extras and even a two player competitive mode to see who can finish a stage first that I absolutely ate up.
A couple years ago some unearthly thing got me craving the basic, watered down platformers that dominated GameBoy and I hunted down the five Turok games released for GameBoy platforms and I played through the entirety of the first one on the original GameBoy and had a somewhat decent time with it. I did not play it on the actual GameBoy, mind you but instead on my TV courtesy of the Retron 5. I should mention I am a proud owner of the Super GameBoy, GameBoy Player and Retron 5 which made it convenient to bust out these portable games at a much friendlier resolution and not have to worry about the GameBoy’s non-backlit screen. In honor of the 30th anniversary last week I popped in the GameBoy Color version of Turok 2 and played a couple levels into it. For as weak and watered down most handheld versions of console games were, there was something about it that kept me coming back to them. The GameBoy helped me through my childhood, too many family trip car rides to count and several summers on a farm. I probably had an unorthodox library of games for my GameBoy compared to the average owner who probably owned a majority of vastly superior games released by Nintendo, Capcom and Konami. What can I say, I was too young to realize what to ask my folks for. No matter how strong or weak each game wound up, I made sure to get the absolute most out of each game. Thank you Nintendo for releasing and supporting the GameBoy well after you should have throughout the 90s and enabling me to enjoy games anywhere! Thank you to everyone who got through this indulging my childhood memories of portable gaming with me! I hope you all have just as many great childhood handheld system gaming memories as I did whether it was on GameBoy, GameGear or later generations like GBA, PSP, DS, mobile, etc.

Five Times Ladybug Didn't Recognize Her Partner and One Time She Did
A sequel to Five Times Gabriel Agreste Didn’t Akumatize His Son and One Time He Did. I really wanted to leave it as it was, but I had to come back and give this a happier ending. And of course it ran away from me and got way longer than I meant it to.
I hope you enjoy!
“Is everything okay, kitty?”
Chat Noir looked over at her. “What?”
“You seem a little out of it.”
He shrugged. “No, just…” He sighed. “My dad’s not coming to something kind of…important to me.”
She frowned. “I’m sorry.”
“I mean, I knew he wouldn’t, but… I guess I hoped things would be different now.”
“Different?”
“It’s nothing.”
By the way he looked at her, she knew she shouldn’t press. After all, there was only so much they could share without revealing their identities. “Well…” she gently patted his shoulder. “Maybe you can ask some friends to come instead.” She wished she could attend, but without knowing who he was, that would be impossible.
Sometimes, keeping their identities safe was difficult and even painful, but she knew it was better this way. Once they’d discussed it, he’d even agreed with her.
Still, as Marinette watched Adrien play at his recital, painfully aware of Gabriel Agreste’s absence, she couldn’t help but wonder if someone had gone to Chat Noir’s event to support him the way she, Nino, and Alya had attended Adrien’s recital. She hoped so.
“How did it go?” she asked him a few days later. “The event?”
He smiled. “Better than I thought. A few of my friends came. They were great.” He chuckled. “One of them was really sweet. She, umm…” Ladybug didn’t miss the light blush that spread over his cheeks. “Well, she said something really nice.”
“Oh, she?” Ladybug teased, her voice light, even if it felt strange to encourage his crush. “Really?”
“She’s just a friend.” He slung an arm over her shoulders. “You know you’re the only bug for me.”
She chuckled.
“Besides, I’m hoping my dad can come to the next important thing. I’m asking him tomorrow.” He winked. “Maybe send me some of that luck and he’ll say yes.”
He didn’t, as Chat Noir sadly informed her during their next patrol, and she comforted him as much as she could. Part of her wished she could find his father and throttle him.
The other part of her invited Adrien to sit with her a week later when Gabriel Agreste didn’t show up for their class viewing of the short film they’d made. If she couldn’t comfort Chat Noir, at least she could overcome her nervousness around Adrien and invite him to join her family. At least she could help one of the two lonely boys in her life.
“I’m going to miss patrol tomorrow. I have a fe-” He looked away. “An important event on Saturday that I need to get ready for.”
She didn’t mention the slip-up. “Will your father be there?”
He chuckled, the sound sharp and unnatural coming from her normally good-natured partner. “No.”
“I’m sorry. Really.” She wished she could be there for him. She wished she could tell him she wanted to be there for him, but she also recognized that would only make this worse for him.
“It’s…” He wanted to say it would be okay, but it wouldn’t. “I hope it’s okay for you to patrol solo.”
“That’s fine.” She stepped forward and hugged him. “I hope it goes well.”
A few days later, Marinette was cheering her heart out for Adrien, hoping he could somehow hear her through the strike of metal on metal during his fencing tournament.
“H-hey, Adrien.” Marinette nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Did you maybe want to um…” Alya nudged her, encouraging her to actually go through with it. “Did you want to come over and cookie decorate with me?”
Adrien grinned. “Sure, that sounds great!”
“Um, great! That’s…great!” She blushed. “After school? Is…that too soon?”
“Actually, I’m free today.” He pulled out his phone to double check and nodded. “How about we walk together? It’s a pretty nice day.”
Marinette wasn’t sure if Adrien could see her soul leave her body and ascend, but she certainly felt it the second it happened. “Y-yeah! Let’s do that!”
Thoughts of icing cookies and laughing with Adrien over her father’s terrible jokes carried her through the rest of her day. Alya was thrilled that Marinette went through with it, and naturally, she made Marinette promise to call her with details after Adrien went home.
Once class ended, Adrien waited for her to finish talking to Alya and gather up her things before he walked out of the school with her. “So, I hope it’s okay if I don’t know how to make cookies.”
Marinette smiled. “No, no, that’s fine! I can teach you. I-if you’d like, I mean.”
“Really?” He brightened. “That would be amazing.”
She could almost feel her heart melting at the sight of his sunny grin. “Yeah…”
They paused to wait for a car to pass before they crossed the road, but Marinette struggled to keep her eyes off Adrien as he chatted about their science homework for the night. He was thrilled by it, of course, and while Marinette couldn’t say she felt the same, she found herself swept up in his excitement anyway.
Sabine greeted them when they walked in through the front of the bakery. “Good afternoon, you two. Adrien, we’re glad you could visit.”
“Thanks for having me,” Adrien answered with a smile.
“Everything is set up for you two in the back. I’ll join you two in a bit.”
Marinette grinned. “Here, I can take your bag upstairs so you don’t have to keep an eye on it.”
“Oh, uh, sure!” Adrien tugged it off and handed it to her. “Thank you.”
“Sure!” She motioned to the door that led to the kitchen. “You can go on back if you’d like. My dad’s ready for you.”
“Okay.” He disappeared into the back while Marinette ran upstairs and set his bag down in the living room. Tikki flew out of her bag, and Marinette smiled. “Will you be okay up here?”
Tikki nodded. “I’ll find you if there’s a problem.”
“Thanks, Tikki.” Marinette waved and ran back downstairs.
Tom had already outfitted Adrien with an apron, and Marinette blushed when she saw that it read “Kiss the Chef”.
“Marinette! Just in time.” Tom beamed, handing her a worn but comfortable apron Marinette had sewn herself. “We were about to go over the recipe.”
Adrien smiled over at her. “Did you make that?”
Marinette tied it around her waist and smiled. “Y-yeah. It was one of my first sewing projects.”
“It looks great.”
Tom grinned, which only encouraged Marinette to send him a sharp glare. Her parents had been painfully vocal about their affection for Adrien and their desire to see the two of them in a relationship, but Marinette had hoped they’d behave while Adrien visited.
“Thank you.” Marinette smiled. “So, are we making sugar cookies?” she asked, glancing over at her father.
“Our family recipe,” Tom announced with a wink.
Marinette rolled her eyes.
Adrien listened attentively while Tom explained the steps, asking questions along the way. Sabine joined them when Adrien was assigned to measure out and mix the dry ingredients. Marinette helped him while her parents measured and mixed the wet ingredients.
“Wow, I never knew any of this,” Adrien murmured when he finally finished. “The closest I got to making cookies was helping my mom scoop pre-made dough.”
Marinette chuckled while Sabine and Tom looked mildly horrified. “Trust me, it tastes way better when it’s homemade.”
“I’m looking forward to trying it.” He handed the bowl to Tom who mixed all of the ingredients together.
“Once you try homemade, you won’t be able to go back to the pre-made stuff, I promise,” Tom announced as he carefully stirred the dough together. “Now, are you ready to help scoop out the dough?”
Adrien nodded, accepting the spoon Marinette offered him. “How big should they be?”
Marinette easily measured an appropriate size and showed him. “Around this big. And make sure you put enough space between them or they’ll all run together.”
“And here I thought the only cookies that could run were gingerbread cookies,” Adrien joked.
Marinette snickered, and Tom let out a booming laugh. Soon enough, all of them were laughing at a joke that, frankly, wasn’t funny enough to justify the extended reaction, but all too soon, they were caught in a loop, each person’s laughter feeding the others. The sensation of sharing a silly joke together with Adrien and her family, laughing long enough to hurt her stomach, was just perfect enough to make Marinette’s heart swell.
Once they’d manage to collect themselves, all four helped to spoon out the dough, Marinette sneaking tastes occasionally and Sabine pretending to chide her when she did.
“You should taste it,” Marinette suggested to Adrien with a grin. “The dough’s the best part.”
Adrien dipped a finger in and ducked his head to hide it from Sabine. His eyes widened, and he looked up at Marinette. “This is amazing.”
Marinette nodded, a blush quickly coloring her cheeks at the sight of his sunny smile. “Y-you’re am- um… Yeah, it is.”
Tom whisked away the baking pans and stuck them in the oven. “Now we wait for them to bake. Marinette, can you grab some frosting?”
“We’re not making it ourselves?” Adrien asked.
“We’ll teach you that next time,” Sabine assured him with a subtle wink to Marinette.
Marinette was torn between hating her parents for meddling and thanking them for giving her the chance to spend more time with Adrien.
She grabbed a few colors, humming in consideration before grabbing sprinkles as well. Knowing Adrien’s home life, he’d probably never had the chance to decorate with sprinkles, and that had to be corrected.
The way Adrien brightened when he saw the rainbow sprinkles in her hands assured her she’d made the right decision.
“So you have to make sure you keep this end twisted or there won’t be anything keeping the frosting from coming out onto your hand.” Marinette sighed. “I’ve done that a lot.”
“Okay, so, like this?” Adrien asked.
“No, you have to keep it steady.” She reached forward and corrected his grip without thinking, but seconds later, she realized just how close they were and she darted back. “L-like that. There.”
“Thanks, Marinette.”
Despite Marinette’s instructions, when the cookies came out, he managed to spill half a bag down his arm. She helped him clean most of it off while her parents surreptitiously watched. “You’ll probably get more on you, so you don’t really need to worry about getting it all off.”
“I’m sorry I wasted all that icing,” he said, looking down at his blue forearm. “I thought I twisted it.”
“That’s okay. It’s easy to make more,” Marinette assured him.
“Yeah? Maybe I can come by sometime and make a replacement batch.”
Marinette bit back a delighted scream. “That would be great!”
In the end, he did have multiple colors of frosting dotting his apron and his arm. He’d even managed a streak of red across his cheek, which Marinette thought looked particularly attractive. His cookies might not have looked as impressive as the others, but after some taste-testing, everyone agreed they tasted just as good.
Marinette insisted on sharing hers, and she happily accepted a few of his batch. She packaged his up in two bags, one for him and one for his father, then she reluctantly retrieved his bag and watched him go home.
“I’m never eating these cookies,” she whispered, staring down at the package of his cookies she’d wrapped up for herself.
“You’re in a good mood tonight, kitty.” Ladybug grinned over at her partner.
“I had a pretty good night.” He stretched and sent her a small smile. “You seem pretty happy, too.”
“I…” She sat on the edge of the building where they’d finished their patrol. “Yeah. I did.” The school awards night had been fun, and despite her lingering frustration with Adrien’s father for once again missing out on a school event, she had been thrilled to see him having fun with Nino’s family. Besides, how could she complain after winning the “Most Courageous” award. If only her classmates knew how true it was.
Chat Noir flopped to the ground beside her, laying down to stare up at the stars. “Besides, I finally get to spend some time with my dad tomorrow.”
She laid back beside him. “That’s great! Are you celebrating-” She frowned. “I mean-” Sometimes it was so easy to forget they had to keep some things secret.
“We’ve just planned it for a while,” he answered.
“I see.” She smiled and reached out to pat his shoulder. “I hope you have a great day with him, then.”
He looked over at her, grinning in a familiar way that made her heart race. “Thanks, bugaboo.”
She shoved the sensation aside in favor of scolding him for using her least favorite nickname. She’d examine that confusing reaction tomorrow.
Tomorrow, as it turned out, was too long to wait.
Marinette knew it the instant a black cat kwami phased through her window and dropped onto her desk, out of breath and wide-eyed with fear.
Tikki flew over to the new arrival immediately. “Plagg?”
Marinette frowned. “Are you…Chat Noir’s kwami?”
Plagg nodded and looked up at her. “He needs your help.”
“What happened?” Marinette wanted to ask a thousand other questions. How did he find her? Did Chat Noir know who she was? Were their identities in danger? Instead, she settled for the most important one.
“Hawkmoth.”
And Marinette stopped breathing.
Part of her had always worried it could happen. After all, they were human, and they could be overwhelmed by emotions, too. Hawkmoth certainly wouldn’t hesitate to take advantage of their anger or grief or hurt. She looked down, guilt pooling in her stomach. Chat Noir had been disappointed lately. She should have noticed he was so upset. She should have helped him.
She inhaled sharply, then released it slowly, bringing herself back to the present. “Does Hawkmoth have his miraculous?” No use dwelling on the past. She had a job to do now. She’d fought her partner before, and she could do it again.
“No.” Plagg hugged a ring to himself. “I took it from him.”
Marinette stood and nodded. “Keep it safe. He’ll need it back after I save him.”
“You should know who he is.”
She paused and shook her head. “No. Not if I don’t have to.”
“You’ll figure it out.”
“I’ll try not to.”
Tikki chimed in. “Marinette, you should listen to him.”
“It’s our decision. You told me that.” Marinette frowned. “I’m going to try to protect him. That means protecting his identity, too.” She looked over at her kwami. “Tikki, spots on!” She followed the familiar motions of her transformation and immediately hurried up to her skylight. “I’ll be back soon, Plagg. Stay out of sight.”
He nodded, darting behind her books to find a small place to curl up.
She flew off, quickly checking the Ladyblog with her yo-yo for any sign of an akuma. So far, nothing. He must not have done anything yet. She snapped it closed and soared to another building, scanning the city as she went. Surely, he’d be looking for her. Hawkmoth would have asked for her miraculous.
She nearly lost her grip on her yo-yo when she saw Chat Noir casually laying back on the same rooftop where they’d finished their patrol last night. She landed on the other side of the roof, eyeing him carefully and preparing herself for a fight. “Chat Noir?”
He smiled and looked over at her, just as relaxed as he’d been the last time she saw him. “Were you expecting someone else?”
Any question that her partner was indeed under Hawkmoth’s control vanished when she heard him speak. Chat Noir didn’t sound like that. Her partner didn’t look so calculating. Ladybug approached him slowly, trying to gauge if he knew she suspected him. “I heard there’s an akuma on the loose.”
He sat up and glanced back at her. “Any idea where it is?”
“No,” she managed a smile. “Ready to help me look?”
“Sure.” He stood and stretched. “Are we splitting up?”
She shook her head. “Probably better to stick together.”
“Sounds good, bugaboo.”
She flinched at the nickname, hating the way it sounded with his voice so low and cold.
He tugged his baton free and took a step towards her. “Or we could skip pretending you don’t know and you can just hand over your miraculous.”
“Guess the cat’s out of the bag.” She twirled her yo-yo and backed away. “But, we’ve done this before, and I always win. You know that better than anyone.”
“I’m your partner.” He shrugged. “I know how to beat you better than anyone.”
She couldn’t tell what was more terrifying: the fact that he looked ready to use Cataclysm on her again or the fact that he didn’t so much as react to a pun that would have probably prompted Chat Noir to propose to her in any other circumstance. “Don’t forget. I know your weaknesses, too.”
She dodged a hit. He corrected and landed beside her, already prepared to kick her feet out from under her. She barely caught herself and jumped back.
“Strong start.” She scanned him for any sign of something different. His ring was there, which seemed strange, considering she knew he shouldn’t have it, and everything else looked exactly the same.
He ignored her in favor of leaping forward and barely missing a blow to her side. She ducked under his baton and turned to toss her yo-yo at his waist. He growled and struck it with his baton before it could wrap around him, sending it flying off into the air. She tugged it back to her side.
“What did he offer you?” she asked, watching for a sign of his next attack.
The familiar purple butterfly outlined his eyes, and he frowned. “That’s none of your business.”
“How do you know he’ll actually do it?” she asked, taking a small step closer.
His eyes widened briefly, and the butterfly faded from around his eyes. “He promised me.”
“You can’t trust him.” She gripped her yo-yo and moved closer.
“All I need is your miraculous.” His eyes snapped back to hers.
“Listen to me.” She frowned. “I can help you. You can trust me. We’re partners.”
“You have no idea who I am.”
She leapt forward, dodging a punch and grabbing his tail. She yanked him off his feet, and he scrambled to catch himself. “If you were really my partner, you’d know that’s not true,” she snapped. He backed away, watching her and correcting his grip on his baton. She tossed her yo-yo up and shouted, “Lucky charm!” It was time to end this.
A spotted mirror dropped into her hands, and she barely avoided Chat Noir’s cataclysm. She hadn’t even heard him call for it. He growled and attacked again. She managed to protect her lucky charm and duck away from his darkened palm. He managed a few hits with his baton, nearly knocking her over in the process.
She held the mirror up, and he paled when he caught sight of his reflection.
The image of Chat Noir blurred, shifted, and suddenly changed to a woman Ladybug had seen before.
“Mother?”
Ladybug nearly dropped the mirror.
She really should have listened when her kwami told her she needed to know her partner’s identity. Finding out mid-battle like this was so much worse than she could have imagined.
“How…?” The purple outline returned, and he looked back up at Ladybug. The instant their eyes met, he shifted back to Chat Noir. He snarled, “Don’t try to distract me.”
She snapped back to the present when he broke the mirror in half. Not that it mattered, since she knew how to defeat him now. “Hawkmoth promised he’d find your mother, didn’t he?”
“Shut up!”
“You want to see her?” His appearance blurred again while she spoke.
“I just want…” His voice broke as he felt his baton fade. “I just miss her.”
Adrien stood in front of her, and Ladybug could barely breathe. She approached him slowly. “Tell me where the akuma is…and I’ll do everything I can to help you find her. I promise. You know you can trust me.”
The purple butterfly flashed over his eyes again, and Adrien shook his head, his shoulders sagging in defeat. “I can’t…” he whispered to Hawkmoth, and Ladybug barely noticed his hand twitch towards his pocket. Adrien might not have intended to show her his akumatized object, but Ladybug liked to believe part of him made the conscious decision to give away its location. She ran past him and something from his pocket.
He didn’t even fight her. Adrien just watched, eyes still framed by that flashing purple butterfly, while she ripped the picture of his mother in two and cleansed the akuma. He dropped to his knees as the outline vanished and dark purple mist rolled off him.
She ran to his side and hugged him, “Are you okay?”
Adrien froze. “Ladybug?” He looked up at her. “Where am I? How did I…?” His eyes widened. “Did I-?”
“Yes.”
He tensed and looked down at his hand. “Where’s my ring?”
“Don’t worry. It’s safe.” Her earrings beeped, reminding her that her time was limited. At least this time she didn’t have to worry so much about hiding her identity. “Your kwami brought it to me.”
He flinched. “I didn’t mean for you to find out like this. I’m so sorry.”
“Sorry?” She frowned. “Adrien, I… I should have helped you. I didn’t know-” She bit her lip. “I’m sorry. I’m your partner. We’re supposed to support each other.”
“No, you did. I…” He squeezed his eyes shut. “My dad. He…” His fists clenched. “It’s my mother’s birthday. And he was supposed to spend the day with me. We planned it. It was important. And he missed it. Just like he missed everything else.”
“I’m so sorry.” She brushed a thumb over his cheek. “Adrien…” Then, she made her decision. She stood and offered him a hand up. “Come with me.”
He accepted and stood, looking up at her. “Okay.”
She wrapped an arm around his waist, ignoring the blush that spread over her cheeks as she did, and swung off, carrying him with her. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, wide-eyed. She finally landed on her rooftop and set him down. “Plagg, you can come out. He’s okay now.”
“Wait, why are we…” Adrien stared at her very familiar balcony. “Are you…?”
Plagg barreled into Adrien’s chest. “Kid, what were you thinking?!” He flitted over to shove the ring back on Adrien’s finger, chiding him the entire time. “Listen, if a supervillain promises you something, he’s lying. You ignore him. You don’t go off and put yourself in danger for him.”
Adrien frowned. “I’m sorry.”
“Hmph.” Plagg scowled. “Don’t be sorry. Find Hawkmoth and make him sorry.”
“I’ll second that,” Ladybug’s voice chimed in, reminding him exactly what he’d been about to ask. Except when he looked up, Marinette was standing in front of him, a red kwami floating beside her, and Adrien forgot how to speak. She waved. “Hey, Adrien.”
“Marinette?” he asked, breathless and stunned.
“Yeah.” She smiled. “Surprise.”
“L-Ladybug. You’re…” He took a step forward. “Really? You were right here?”
She blushed and nodded.
“I’m…” He finally reached her and managed to extend a hand and rest it on her shoulder. “You really are amazing.”
She grinned and pulled him into another hug. “So are you, kitty.”
He relaxed and wrapped his arms around her. “I’m so sorry you-”
“Don’t you dare apologize,” she murmured into his shoulder. “Hawkmoth took advantage of you missing your mother. He’s awful. And now we know each other, so if you need to talk, you can call me. Anytime.” She peered up at him, and his heart jumped. “Promise me.”
“I promise.” He would have promised her anything she asked.
“Good.” She smiled and stepped back. “So, now you need to go home. I’m bringing Alya and Nino over, and we’re spending the day together. Okay?”
He nodded.
“And tomorrow.” She stepped over to her skylight. “We’ll start looking for your mother.”
“We will?”
She glanced back at him. “I promised you I would.”
“I don’t remember…” he raised a brow. “Wait, while I was akumatized?”
She nodded. “I still meant it, though.” She dropped down onto her bed and peeked out at him. “See you soon, Adrien.”
He nodded, lost for words again. Something told him he wasn’t quite ready for Marinette and Ladybug to be the same person.
“You heading back, kid?” Plagg asked after she’d tugged the skylight closed. “You owe me so much Camembert after worrying me all day.”
“So, you admit you were worried about me?” Adrien teased, relieved to fall back into their familiar banter.
“Of course. I hate breaking in new Chat Noirs.”
Adrien scoffed and transformed, eagerly leaping his way home.

The band also contains the Antoine Carraby, who calling himself Dj Yella. Background will be history in 1986, as Eazy Elizabeth, Dr. Dre and Disc jockey Yella, together with artist Ice Cube and Mc Ren founded the ' Niggaz Wit attitudes, usually referred to as Nwa. In order to take them under his wing's manager in Los Angeles and white Jerry Likas?. Titled "Straight outta Compton" in order to take them to the success of their album from 1988. A revolution: until then rap lyrics about racism, bullying, poverty and medicines in a semantic spectrum from rebellion to victimhood. NWA is as tough and violent, but in their texts there is no place with the exception of the apology of the hoodlum life: more punks I smoke, yo my rep gets bigger> >, punctuating Mc Ren on the title track: get rid of it plus my reputation increases. The disc is a national matter. The LAPD calls on group to calm down, worrying that pieces like "Tube when police " was the soundtrack to a riot-as in fact there will be, in 1992, following the Rodney King conquering to death, another history. RAP lovers, but was also considering what the accompanying RHYMES: beats more strict and choice of basis-that drawing from the seventy 's funk by Legislative house, Funkadelic, until famous small 5: 35 of the Funky Drummer by David Brown which did the foundation of rap-1085 items is a trademark by Doctor Dre. NWA implode within a few years. First Ice Dice and then Dr. Dre left the group in polemic with Eazy Elizabeth and Jerry Heller, convinced-probably with great reason that the two are stealing money. Mutual insults, battles of the war begins. Although above all, Dr. Dre, commences a new level musical. In 1992, collectively with Marion "Suge" Knight-more questionable character-based Death Line records went and released his solo debut The Chronic, still regarded as a cornerstone of hip hop. Compared to the Nwa changes everything: a slower-paced, hypnotic groove, male voices in the back. From the ashes of gangsta reputation, G-Funk was born and is also another revolution that brings with it new interpreters. Warren G, that of Dre's stepbrother. Snoop Puppy Dogg, hacking with Dre's "nothing but a" G "thang ", a chiaro of sorts. And especially Tupac Shakur, undisputed full of rap on the West coast until her violent and untimely end. Behind their successes, always the same hand, with Dr. Dre. And at the rear of the hand that is, more or less 20 million records sold in only 1995. La call the golden era, the golden age of Californian rap, nevertheless they are also years of blood. Tupac passes away in Las Vegas in 1996, shot down with a flurry of photographs as well as months later the same fate touches in his great rival, the New Yorker fate Notorius B. I. G. The moment this happens, Dr. Dre has recently left Death Line, Suge Knight and hot debate with partner founded his own lay-flat eselskab, Wake. For the three 12 months delay doing work in the wake up of the chronic but not satisfied and regularly release.Because this is Dr. Dre, basically: a tailor who creates custom products Creative crisis? Most likely. But if you think the parable of Doctor. Dre's downhill, but you are incredibly wrong. Is in 1997, where Chief Jimmy Iovine, Interscope's garage-the sticker if after effects is a subsidiary-find a trial. In order to compromise it, a white artist from Detroit named Marshall Mathers, but calling him or her self Eminem, or Slim Questionable. His rhymes are sick and tired, psychotic. In him, Dre misses and also the epic gangsta of Nwa, nor abuse, but a paranoid Tupac mix creepy between paradox and despair, introspection and social satire.Sniffing success, Dr. Dre, convinces Iovine put him under agreement and built around a sound that had never heard before. Guitars and rock drums, harpsichords, alarms build healthy texture now farcical now tragic that on rhymes from Eminem fits like a suit of tailoring. Because this is Dr. Dre, essentially: a tailor who creates custom-made products, not someone like Pharrell or Timbaland or Kanye West who leave marks on everything they produce. The relationship between the two is one of the most successful in the record of rap, not least, to put in several like 30 million clones sold with just four albums, two of which-The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show-is located on the second and third place best vendors rap ever album graphs. If we add several. 6 million copies sold in 2001, the second album by Doctor Dre, who finally sees the light in 1999, and 8 million of "get rich or die tryin" 50 cent, Eminem, with comprodotto we are almost 50 million records sold in just over five years.

Paul McCaurtney Net Worth is $1.2 billion
Wayne Paul McCartney was given birth to 18. June 1942 in Liverpool England. His family live near Allerton simply a mile from the home of John Lennon. The two, who met at a party the same parish quickly become friends, share his passion of music. The first thought then, as happens every self-respecting teen dream, is to form a group and so they were immediately put to work to accomplish this ardent desire. Basically it can be said that in these distant start formed the core of the future Beatles, if we believe it is soon co-opted George Harrison and later, drummer Ringo Starr. Shaped in ' 56 this group of beardless males will be the Beatles in 1960. Personalities of three are differentiated enough, although, naturally, some elements are leaning more to the offence while others are more balanced; being the case with centered Paul straight away with the composition of the kind of poignant lyrical music, there will be a characteristic feature. In addition to the serious musician and performer how much keep in mind the pure instrumental music, especially technical aspect, which soon will be, from a simple bass player, a true musician, dares himself with guitar and some with keyboards. This means that another highlight in music performer McCartney is the wedding. Of the four then Paul is without a question the most angelic that I believe appeal to mothers and girls from good families. He will keep the press relations, working with public relations and fan, in contrast to the picture worn and worn, there would always misunderstood genius and "banded". Needless to say, this is the time when the other genius of the Quartet, John Lennon, will sign his most memorable songs; many of the most memorable tunes of "cockroaches" (this is the meaning of the beatles in Italian), is actually signed by both. Are pieces, where even today fans argue over who is going to be critical contributions: If perhaps Paul or John. The facts lies somewhere in the Middle, or in other words that both were major talents, which thankfully has lavished plenty for the Beatles ' eternal glory. However, it should not be forgotten that the greatest album of the English Quartet, the album, which was considered to be the greatest rock ie ever written, "Sgt Pepper", is essentially the work of Paul. In the middle of all this, but a term shopping for George Harrison, talent by no means despicable and there would in fact also justifies the term "genius". Location of the Beatles was what it was and it is useless to trace here the glories of the greatest group ever existed. Go here, however, recalled that during the parable descendant, is profit on McCartney if went to port jobs are designed to try to revive the luck of the Group; including the film "Magical Mystery Concert tours " or as the documentary truth " very well "Let it be". In addition, it must be definitely recalled Paul's insistence because the band selected to perform live. But by the end of the Beatles was close by and no person could do anything about it... 12 March 1969 in fact Paul marries Bela Eastman and log changes in their lives. Since a beatle, gives enthusiasts one last big test on the album "Abbey Road" (1969), but in December of that 12 months he announced his giving the group. A few months after the Beatles ceases to exist. McCartney always flanked by the faithful Linda, commences a fresh career, alternating solo studies of good quality music tracks and collaborations with other musicians. One of the most enduring is that sees him surrounded by wings, he wanted in 1971-group and which, in fact, even in line with the experts, will never be much more than a simple emanation of genius Uk. His career is, nevertheless , a number of success, among Awards, Gold information, and record sales: in 1981, experience with flapping ends. Inside the years 80 Paul McCartney goes on his hot streak heading back and forth with stars like Stevie Ponder or Michael Jackson, live, and again after a long period, sings "Let it Be" in the grand ending of Bob Geldof Live Aid London, 1985. Nevertheless the real return "on stage" takes place in 1989, with a world travel for almost 12 several weeks will show you in great condition with music artists from large caliber. Intended for the first time since the break-up Mccartney perform live many of the most famous tunes by the Beatles. In 1993, " new world " tour, so the surprise: Paul, George and Ringo are assembled in the Studio in 95 to focus on two music unsolved by John, "Free as a bird" and "real love", two new Beatles song " very well after quarter of a century.

How Mauricio Pochettino granted Tottenham the Premier League’s better excuse | Jonathan Wilson
Tottenhams pressing play has been cunningly adjusted by Pochettino and the managers deployment of Eric Dier as a center midfielder who can drop into the backline has been key their success
Tottenham have the best defensive preserve in the Premier League. Its not a sentence were used to hearing. Not since 1951 have Stimulation finished awareness-raising campaigns with the best defensive account of the schism theyve been in. Its not the Spurs way. Theyre supposed to be about instants of occasional criticizing genius set against a background of general flakiness. Not any more.
Its Tottenhams pressing that is actually sits out. They perhaps dont push quite as high-pitched or with such relentlessness as Mauricio Pochettinos Southampton, but thats part of his maturation as a director. In previous years his slopes have tended to dip following the end of the season, but that dip has already become less and less declared as he has adapted to the demands of the Premier League. The pressing is more ensure now, and if anything seems even more effective.
Pochettinos inspiration is clear, the parallels between the Newells Old Boys side in which he came of age as a central defender and this Spurs obvious. When we won the designations, and arrived at the final of the Copa Libertadores[ in 1992 ], we were very similar to the force that we have now, Pochettino said this month. In periods of the average age of the crew, and in the balance between younger and knew actors. There were very good kids like me and very good experienced players. A same balance, a similar project.
Youth is important, if only because young actors tended to be more biddable and less cynical than more seasoned musicians, more willing to follow a managers commands.
Pochettino was 13 when he firstly converged Marcelo Bielsa, who at the time had just joined Newells as youth co-ordinator. Bielsa, terrified of winging and meticulous as ever, had divided Argentina into 70 sections and, speculating flair from the interior was often overlooked, has decided to drive to each of them in his Fiat 147 to search for actors. Pochettinos home town of Murphy population 3,500, including the parents of the future Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was one of his shorter trips, being set, like Rosario where Newells are based, in Santa Fe province, but it was 2am by the time Bielsa turned up. He looked at the sleeping sons legs, declared him a footballer and signed him on the spot. Five year later, Bielsa changed Jose Yudica as coach and Pochettino was hoisted to the first team.

By 1992 the form had advanced. Juan Manuel Llop, who had been regarded as a right-back who could play in the centre, was changed into center midfield, with a brief to drop back and become an extra centre-back when the two full-backs were drawn forwards. That was a 3-4-3 rather than Tottenhams 4-3-3/ 4-2-3-1 hybrid, but the similarity between Llops role and that of Eric Dier, the lane a solid basi was created as a scaffold for the press, is clear.
Although Pochettino has begun to rotate the full-backs, he has remained the heart of his excuse stable. Jan Vertonghens knee hurt has forced a change but before that, he and Toby Alderweireld had started together in the first 23 tournament recreations of the season. Kevin Wimmer has started the three competitors since Vertonghens injury, becoming only the third centre-back used by Spurs this season; the contrast to 2007 -0 8 when they used nine different central guards is telling.
In 21 of those competitions, they had Dier sitting simply in front of them. That affair is key. Vertonghen and Alderweireld play at full-back for Belgium; they are unable to favor operating centrally but “hes capable” and not unused to moving wide. Dier can then drop behind between them as a de facto third centre-back at Watford in December, in fact, the trio started as a back three to fighting Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.
That capacity to switch to a back three during games in turn causes the full-backs licence to push on, which is useful from an attacking point of view in that it allows them to offer innovative extent but its likewise an advantage from a defensive point of view, facilitating the press high up the pitch.
The effectiveness of that can be seen in a number of statistics. Tottenham establish the sixth-most tackles per recreation in the Premier League, but whats significant about that is that of the five squads who tackle more than they do, simply Liverpool have had more self-possession this season, while three are in the bottom four for belonging( and, plainly, there is a correlation between not having the projectile low-grade owned and a high undertake frequency to try to prevail it back ).

Spurs also constitute more fouls per competition than anybody else 12.7 per play evidence of how far theyve come from the old days of being was considered as a little too nice to be taken seriously. No assaulting midfielder has made as numerous interceptions as Dele Alli this season, with Erik Lamela joint-third, and no striker has won the projectile as often as Harry Kane, which gives some expres to seeing how high up Spurs look to regain possession.
That compels great fitness, which was also a characteristic of Bielsas side. Newells was exactly a tractor that would smash all resist, said the former Boca Junior guard Juan Simon. That squad would suffocate you: that was the Bielsa touch, adding mad pressing to Newells subsisting football form. After facing them, youd go back to the dressing room help feeling that you were going to pass out, that they had made “youre running” as never before.
Brad Friedel said that in two decades of football hed never worked with a coach-and-four who targeted such an emphasis on conditioning as Pochettino. Where he varies from Bielsa, who has always had a bia to drive musicians too hard-handed, is in modifying the workload so players arent overwhelmed by the latter stagecoaches of a season.
The benefits of that are investigated is not simply in Spurs fitness but in the lack of muscular harms theyve lost this season. That in turn allowed to be a greater consistency of collection, representing the pressing slicker. A virtuous cycle has been created. Its one inspired by Bielsa, but perhaps improved upon by Pochettino.
