Ska Day- Woozi x GN!Reader (Soulmate AU)
Word Count: 2.1k | Soulmate AU, Humor, Fluff | Warnings: none
Y’all on the poll said complete this 💁🏻♀️😂 Inspired by my often unshared love of ska lmao anyway wooahae enjoy this lowkey crack 😆 went to a ska show for one of my favorite bands like 2 months ago n it was so fun
It's hard to say what kind of day it's going to be when you wake up with a song about Canada stuck in your head. Jihoon wasn't even aware he knew a song about Canada, but there it was in his head, trumpets and all as he brushed his teeth. Lots of brass, actually, which he might have dug if it wasn't layered over the pop-punk guitars, too. Who writes a song like that?
When did Jihoon listen to a song like that?
He entered the practice room singing even the French bit under his breath as he swung the door open, AC sweeping in a chill wave toward him. "Canada oh Canada, I s'il vous plait..."
"Are you singing in French?" Mingyu asks him from his seated position on the shining polished floor.
"Don't get me started," Jihoon shook his head at the cursed mental brass, trumpet tune making it hard to get a clear thought into his mind. It was really catchy, too, darn it. Let’s go to Canada, let’s leave today…
“Who’s singing in French?” Jun chimes in.
“No one,” Jihoon sighs.
“Woozi-hyung,” chimes Chan.
“Why?”
“Let’s just practice,” Jihoon sighs, shooting the maknae his best ‘not another word outta you, Dino’ look.
~
The sweet, sweet relief when the Canada Song faded away, no longer stuck in his head. Jihoon put on one of his chillest samples as he sat down in the studio just to clear his ears like the coffee beans in cologne stores were supposed to, sinking into the leather of his chair after the strain of both dance practice and all the Canada. As the simple beat filled his brain, he sighed, preparing to add the next layer when…
…Another even catchier song entered his head. The backing guitar was similar, but overall the electrics were more prominent. The trumpets were even more rousing, the voice singing triumphantly about this and that all in English this time. Something about singing a song, ironically. Jihoon was very confident he’d never heard that song either, and this time it was far more vivid than simply having something stuck in your head. It was playing as if through headphones with the volume turned up, like God himself was trying to blast out the sampled beat he’d wanted to work with. Fine, then.
He turned it up. The music in his head turned up, too. He fought back with his chill beat. It fought back just as hard. You asked for it…music.
Jihoon had plenty of upbeat songs to work on, too. Closing the relaxing song-in-progress, probably something that would be going to the vocal team, he opened up one of the hip hop unit’s demos, the loudest one they had, and started playing that. It needed some fine-tuning before the next album anyway. Finally the trumpets faded out of his head as he got some work done, tweaking the autotune back to keep the members’ voices at the forefront. This time, neither the brass nor the guitars returned. Ha. Victory was his.
~
“What song is that?”
“Was I humming?”
“Yeah,” Soongyoung nods, “it sounds like a nice song.”
“It isn’t.” Jihoon crosses his arms as the music fades into his ears. “It’s just some song about a pool party.”
His friend smiled. “Sounds like fun. New concept?”
“No, it’s not mine.”
Soonyoung’s brows furrowed as he swiveled in his chair, clunking plastic sounds accompanying the motion. “Whose is it, then?”
His head fell into his hands. “I wish I knew.”
He spent the rest of the day ready to strangle Soonyoung, who liked the pool party song enough that he kept singing it long after it was done playing through Jihoon’s head.
~
A song about skateboards? Ok, kind of a good idea, just maybe not one so goofy. Had a trumpeter died and seen fit to haunt one Lee Jihoon for his musical proclivity?
Something was going on. This wasn’t natural. His dancing time was suffering unless he listened to the practice song in headphones. His lyricism failed him, other instruments blurring out his careful, sentimental mixes in whirlwinds of skateboards and time bombs and foreign countries. The songs could have been worse, in fact Jihoon was getting a bit too comfortable with the catchy one about something or other in school and singing, but in his line of work no one could afford distractions. Especially distractions that literally got louder every time he tried to drown them out as if they wanted him to know they hated him.
He excused himself from practice, slumping down against the wall with his chin in one hand, the other digging in his sweats pocket for his phone, praying Google would have some answers as to what would cause this.
A shadow fell over his vision. “Hey, are you ok?”
Glancing up, he saw Jeonghan standing over him, hands wringing in concern. “I know this has been a tense week for you, but the others were saying something about music? About singing in French?”
Jihoon sighed, sliding his phone back into the warmth of his pocket. He let it all fall out, all the brassy details of his past week rushing forth. How it started with feeling a song he’d never heard stuck in his head and continued into sometimes hours-long segments of invisible headphones tuning him into unfamiliar ditties.
“I- I feel like I’m going crazy.”
Jeonghan rested a hand on his shoulder. “You’re not going crazy. Have you considered that it’s your soulmate?”
“My soulmate is a bunch of disembodied ska?”
“No,” Jeonghan suppressed a laugh, “some people hear music when they’re close to their soulmates. It gets louder when it’s closer to your time to meet.”
Jihoon cocked a brow, shifting a bit on the hard floor. “Then why does mine sound like pool parties and Canada?”
“I’m…not even going to ask what that means,” Jeonghan shot back, hands steepled, “but you hear what your soulmate is listening to. They’ve probably been hearing bits of our practice or anything you’re working on.”
“A-ha!” Jihoon finally lit up. “That’s why it stopped when I worked on the hip hop demo!”
“Maybe they were listening,” Jeonghan confirmed with a smile.
“My soulmate,” Jihoon shook his head in disbelief, partially having believed he wouldn’t have one as such a recluse, “my soulmate who probably thinks I’m a rapper now. And who listens to…” He pulls google back up to the page with the pool party song artist. “A band with a bunch of grown men who dress like superheroes.”
Jeonghan squinted at the image on the proffered phone, a bunch of spandex-top-clad men in dynamic poses holding their instruments, eyebrows raising. “Those guys look like dorks.”
“I think it’s comedy? They have a song about pizza too. And aliens. And skits on youtube.”
“Well, I guess opposites do attract. Have you tried following the music?”
The jaw drop was practically palpable. “Following it? I’ve been running away,” Jihoon chuckled.
“Well, it’ll only get worse until you find the person, you know,” Jeonghan lowered himself into a seated position at his side, “so if you want no more brass, I’d suggest-”
“Running around like a chicken with my head cut off.”
“I was actually going to say ‘leaving the Hybe building for once in your life’, but that works too. Who knows,” the older singer shrugged, “maybe it’ll get louder. Maybe it’ll stop on someone you really like. Your soulmate could just be a friend, you know. A friend of mine’s soulmate is her best friend and both girls are straight.”
“Alright,” Jihoon puts his hands up, “alright. I’ll do it, I’ll find them just to get the music to stop.”
“I’ll go with you,” Jeonghan offers, standing up and holding out his hand.
Ignoring the hand, Jihoon stands up on his own. “What, for the show?”
“For moral support! …but yes, also for the show. I can’t wait to see what your soulmate looks like,” Jeonghan grins.
~
After rinsing off and changing out of sweaty practice outfits, the dual vocalists exited the Hybe building to the sound of trumpets…well, if you were Jihoon, that is. It really was like he was the unwilling recipient of a mostly-ska music subscription directly, forcibly installed into his brain.
The light outside was harsh for someone like him who wasn’t used to it. Even Jeonghan blinked a bit as they made their way onto the sidewalk, skirting around a planted tree.
“Ok, we’ll start with going this way,” Jeonghan said, “tell me if it gets quieter or louder.”
Jihoon felt his frown tighten, which made Jeonghan laugh. “Let me guess…we’re getting closer?”
He laughed again at the dry nod he was given in response, pointing down the street where they’d turned left. “Then we keep going that way.”
They passed about five buildings before the sound was practically unbearable, every brass note an echoing assault on Jihoon’s cranial walls despite the considerable skill of their players. Hey, assaulted or not, he was a musician at the end of the day, one who had to respect the lungs on a fellow wind or even brass player.
Looking up from the blare, he saw a bookstore of all places. "This is it," he nodded toward the doors at Jeonghan before disappearing inside.
Mazelike walls of grey shelves bearing rainbows of books greeted him, but Jihoon didn't need to go far for the music, this new song an entirely different man and woman singing about gas in a car in a rapid-fire chorus, drowned out all perception. Tables sporadically dotted the area, and one of the closest ones drew him like a magnet, bringing him closer and closer...
...Until like an act of mercy, the sound abruptly stopped, Jihoon's eyes fluttering closed in sweet relief, a laugh almost escaping him at the returned use of all his cranial real estate. Relief was all he felt, the relaxing sensation washing over him hard enough to keep him frozen there, all but forgetting where he was until a voice cut him off.
"Hi, did you need something?"
Descending back to reality, Jihoon opened his eyes and fixed them upon the speaker, the lone occupant of the table he'd stopped at sitting there with a laptop. Call it a rush of sentimentality, but the first thing he noticed about you was the kindness of the smile on your face as you removed your headphones.
That wasn't what he came there for, though. "What are you always listening to that music for?" He asked.
"Uh, I'm a music major?" You responded, head tilted and tone questioning. Kind of cute.
"And you listen to ska?"
"I like it," you defended with a shrug, "and besides, I'm writing my thesis on the influence of ska on various sides of counterculture like its greater punk umbrella and the serious topics it can be used to convey through the light style, like faith, how people judge your views based on their expectations of your expression of them, or even feelings of self-doubt and fear of judgement that are conveyed in one of the most famous songs. The singer himself has even talked about how his social anxiety inspired the lyrics, which many agree really exemplify a human experience."
The concept of his soulmate being a scholar, or even just being a real non-psychopathic person, had barely occurred to Jihoon in light of all the trumpet torture, but now that you were before him, his ire was rapidly melting away, weeks of beating himself up over diminished performance replaced by the one stronger feeling: sheer curiosity.
"Oh, wow. I had no idea, and I'm a producer."
Your face lit up with surprise. "You're a producer?"
He just hummed and nodded.
"I'm really more interested in songwriting, but that all goes hand-in-hand," you said, "but hey- how did you know what I was listening to?"
There it was. The reason Jihoon had taken to, in the words of one Yoon Jeonghan, who was perusing books two tables away, 'leaving the Hybe building for once in his life'. "I've been hearing practically nothing but for, yeesh, how many weeks now?"
"You're the guy listening to all the kpop songs over and over?"
"It's my job."
"And that rap demo?"
"Also my job."
"It really threw me the first time my sound got interrupted."
"Yeah, think how I felt," Jihoon remarked drily, meeting your eyes.
Several heartbeats passed before you burst out with a laugh, and something about the sound of it coupled with the tail end of the relief wave was so infectious Jihoon found himself laughing, too.
"Here," you waved a hand over a chair, "sit down and I'll play you another Skankin' Pickle song."
"Another excuse me?"
"'90s ska band."
Brass-filled 'Nam flashbacks. "I'm good."
"Well, now that I've suggested something worse," you grinned, sending some part of Jihoon's heart flipping, "hopefully it'll sound better if I ask my soulmate whose name I still don't know on a date."

oh to dream a dream
summary: Careless words can lead to indulgent sleep.
based on @seaglass-skies' prompt "Jazz has never had a sibling. So who is this other teenager in the old photo album she found? And why is the bedroom across from hers so empty?"
Ao3 Link | Phight ‘24 series
The atmosphere was quiet, homey. Chirping birds could be heard through the cracked window off to the side and there was a low level chatter throughout the whole place.
Jazz took a deep breath in, smelling the scent of dark roast and vanilla bean that had permeated itself into the walls and floor, that drifted up to greet her like a tired lover.
Usually, she'd chide herself on such cheesy thoughts—maybe make a mental note to stop reading so many romance novels and crack open more psych textbooks—but she was feeling good today. Good and content.
So much so, in fact, that she didn't even feel the sting of embarrassment as someone nudged past her where she was standing, blocking the open door to the coffee shop.
She gave a short apology, tapped each pocket on her shoulder bag just in case, and then walked to the front register.
“Jazzy-babe!” Edward said, grinning wide at her. “Girl, I haven't seen you in ages!”
Jazz smiled back, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. “Ugh, I know right? Sorry—” She paused to wipe her face, sniffling a little. “I've really missed this place.”
“Oh honey.” Ed came around the counter to scoop her into a hug. He patted her back as he said, “There's no need to cry, you're here now, aren't you?”
Jazz laughed. She must really be a mess for Ed to come all the way around for a hug rather than just lean over the counter. “Yeah—yeah I'm here now. These are more happy tears than anything else, to be honest.”
Ed gave her a few more pats before returning to the register. “Good. Happy tears are the best kind of tears. We don't need anything else.” Actually, tears of sadness and frustration were also rather important to keeping a healthy emotional balance, but Jazz understood and appreciated the sentiment. “What can I get for you, hon?”
“Just a latte, I've got to—” Jazz paused. “Oh, sorry, I just started talking on autopilot. I don't have any chores or homework today, so I'm staying for the long haul.”
“From open to close!” Ed laughed. “Just like when you first started coming here.”
Jazz smiled. ”Yup, back to my old ways.“
”So we're going with a large latte and three chocolate and almond croissants?“
”Make it four, please.“
The shop was rather slow—an odd sight for a coffee shop at 9 in the morning—so while Ed and his new coworker worked, Jazz propped herself against the counter and chatted with him. Turned out he'd gotten himself a new boyfriend—long distance this time, all the way up north in Ontario, Canada in some place called 'Barrie'—and he's planning to renew his passport and go visit him some time this summer.
Jazz shared her own news—the hazards of 12th grade English classes with a substitute teacher for half the semester, all of her friends managing to catch the flu at the same time a few months ago, and her overbearing parents insisting she apply for some fake program called 'ecto-biology' at the University of Madison Wisconsin.
Ed laughed along and, traitor that he was, said she should give it a shot anyway and that it might be fun. Jazz wasn't so sure.
Soon, her drink and pastries were done and she said her goodbyes before ensconcing herself to the little corner in the back of the shop, far from the door and mostly covered by a massive bird of paradise plant.
She set down her things, took out a hefty book titled 'Psychology and You: A Look into the Self' and cracked open the front cover.
—
“...azz!“
“...ease, don't wan... urt y...!”
“...rry!”
—
Jazz felt a tap at her shoulder and she blinked. She groaned and rubbed at her eyes. “Geez, I haven’t done that since middle school.” And damn, that was satisfying.
Ed chuckled as she stretched out her arms. “Sounds like you needed it.”
Jazz packed up her stuff and gave Ed a goodbye hug before heading out. If there's one thing Jazz Fenton knew, it was when she'd overstayed her welcome.
She blinked, then furrowed her brows. Where did that come from? It was closing time so she needed to leave, it wasn't like she'd stayed too long at a friend's house.
“Maybe I conflated it with the feeling of being in someone else's home?” she mumbled to herself. “The place does feel like it's Ed's pride and joy even though he's not the owner.”
The owner himself was a crabby man who had hated Jazz since the first moment he spotted her walking in, all of 12 years old and looking for a safe and quiet place to do her math homework. She didn't have any money then, thinking the shop was similar enough to a library what with all the people she saw reading quietly through the windows. The man was ready to kick her out, citing that only paying customers were allowed to sit in his shop and that all children were rabble and ruffians regardless of age.
It was Edward then, all of 16 and newly hired, who had bought her a hot cocoa and claimed her dad had already bought a drink for her earlier in the day and Ed had been waiting for her. Ed was chewed out for it since apparently that wasn't a thing they allowed at the shop, but Jazz was allowed to stay. She learned for future visits to bring along her allowance and when the owner wasn't here, Ed would let her sit in the shop without buying anything.
Now if only a certain someone else would be so kind—
Jazz stumbled. “Dumb rock,” she grumbled, shaking out her foot. “What was I thinking about again?”
—
“You’re always in my business! It’s annoying!”
“I’m in your business because I care about you!”
“You sound like mom and dad! And didn’t you always say privacy was important to growing kids?!”
“It is! It is, but this is different; Danny, I’m afraid you’re doing something dangerous. Something that could get you hurt. If there’s some big bad ghost villain you should come to me—”
“Of course.” He scoffed. “You can’t fucking trust me to take care of myself, as per usual. I’m just your idiot little brother who would die a horrible death the moment you take your eyes off me, aren’t I?”
She gasped, putting a hand to her mouth.
“W-Wait, I didn’t mean it like that—”
—
“Oh Jazzypants!” Dad called. “You think you could come down and help your old man with something?”
“Sorry Dad! I’m doing something important!” Jazz called back, laid on her stomach on her bed, a chewed up pencil in hand as she hovered over a ‘Who will be your boyfriend? (NSYNC edition)’ quiz. “I’m doing this for Kendra, but man I hope I get Justin.”
She continued to circle the letters on the quiz and eventually finished and flipped to the back of the magazine. “Ugh, Lance? Maybe I should just burn this.” As she shifted her hand, she noticed neat cursive handwriting under the answer key that read: ‘Jazz, I don’t care if you got Lance, DO NOT BURN THIS.’
She was tempted to burn it anyway.
A gust of wind blew through her room, ruffling the pages of the magazine and throwing her hair all around. Jazz had to slap a hand on the book to keep it from flying away. The wind died down after a moment and she huffed, a bit of hair fluttering up with the action before falling back down. “Perfect, amazing, exactly what I needed.”
Jazz pushed herself up and slammed the window down. Her dad yelled if she was alright, but she didn’t answer. Flopping herself down on her bed, she flipped back to the quiz and erased her answers. “I’m gonna get Justin this time,” she grumbled, starting the quiz over.
Just as she had gotten to the second question, another gust of wind blew through her room. This time the magazine wasn’t safe and tumbled to the carpet. She pushed her hair back from her face and left her room to investigate.
Mom and Dad’s room was fine. The bathroom too. The storage closet didn’t have a window and the hallway one has been busted shut for years.
Jazz stood in front of the door across from her room. She slowly put a hand on the doorknob. Twisted it. Then pushed.
Peeking into the room, she looked around. It was empty and collecting dust, just as it always was. She always felt uneasy just looking into the room so hopefully the window was—
Ah, it was open. Of course.
Jazz gulped. She willed herself forward. Fear was just fear and there was nothing of any real harm in the room. She repeated that to herself over and over as she tiptoed inside, heading for the window.
There were no furniture, no decorations, no new paint on the walls. It was just a plain blue—
Jazz shook her head and rubbed her eyes. Beige, the original house’s wall colours were beige with a white trim.
She continued her journey and eventually made it, sliding the window closed as gently as she could, lest she disturb the stifling atmosphere she found herself in.
Jazz was about ready to tiptoe her way out—or maybe just run for it to make it quicker—when her eyes caught on a photo album on the floor. It was 4th of July themed and was laid spine up, as if it had falled off of something and landed on its pages.
And, well, Jazz was never one to leave a book like that, no matter the circumstances.
With hesitant hands, she picked up the book, her thumb automatically marking the open pages. She marvelled at the peeling silver stars on the front and back cover and the almost sparkling blue colour. 4th of July themed seemed like a stretch, now that she had a closer look; it had more of a space theme or a starry night sky, than anything else.
She flipped over the book, only to find it was a photo album. The papers where starting to become yellow with age and the photos curling at the corners, as if ready to fall off at any moment. It looked so old and well loved, yet Jazz had never recalled seeing such an album around the house before.
The photos all included pictures of herself when she was far younger, her mom and dad, and some of Jazz’s friends from elementary school. Sometimes it was just one of them, sometimes all of them, and sometimes even none of them.
But with each picture there was one consistent theme: some part of the picture was complete static. Like someone had taken a TV without signal and used that to colour in nonsensical shapes and silhouettes in each and every picture.
It was strange. Odd, even. Jazz wasn’t one to vandalize anything as important as a photo album, even as a child. Her parents were always quite adamant that she’d been a rather mature child since she was small. And she doubted her mom or dad would’ve done that.
Maybe one of her friends from the photos? Jazz could’ve invited them over one time and they could’ve scribbled all over the photos when she wasn’t looking. It wouldn’t be the first time.
She squinted at the pages. No, that didn’t seem quite right. The static colouring stopped right at the edge of each polaroid, not a single bit of it leaking into the white border edges of them. She doubted elementary schoolers would care so much about that, or be that precise.
Page after page she found different pictures, with her and her parents at different ages and different clothes, with new friends and old. And yet that same static colouring persisted. In fact, it seemed to be growing over time, getting consistently bigger and bigger, at times looking like the outline of a person just a handful of inches shorter than herself. She started to get irritated as the static got closer to her height, but by the time she got to the end of the album—with whiter pages and more firmly glued pictures—it never overtook her. She felt satisfied about that fact, for some reason.
Back to the original problem, she still didn’t know what the purpose was of this odd destruction of her family’s photo album. She didn’t even know where this album had come from, the pictures in it unfamiliar and foreign.
She squinted at the last picture in the album, using her nail to scratch at the static colour. Not that she was expecting anything from it—
The static started to flake off.
“What is this, crayon?” she mumbled. Though it felt simultaneously thicker and thinner than crayon wax. Smoother, yet rougher. It was easy to pick at it, but hard to peel off anything larger than a toothpick, the colours coming off in long thin stripes as they did.
She scratched and scratched and scratched at it. Jazz had just about had enough when no more pieces came off, but then—
The entire thing peeled off like an old sticker.
Staring back at her was a boy with messy black hair, annoyed blue eyes, and a contrasting grin with Jazz’s own arm wrapped around his shoulders.
“An… old friend, maybe? But this picture was taken recently and—” She paused to pick at another photo higher up the page. It revealed another picture of the same boy, mouth open like he was talking animatedly about something while staring into a small telescope. Another picture, a few pages earlier, showed the whole family in their hazmat suits, and the boy himself standing with them in his own white and black suit.
“I’ve never had any siblings,” she whispered to herself. It didn’t feel right, almost like someone else coaxed the words through her mouth.
She stared around at the empty room. Thought of how it really should be blue, since that’s the colour it’s always been. The house was originally beige, but this room was always always blue. A specific shade of lighter blue, with glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and burn marks on the carpet. A scuffed up desk plastered with enough free Nasa stickers you could hand them out at a convention. Not to mention a bed that had never been made since it was bought.
She thought of that room. And she thought of this one, the real one all around her. The one full of life and the one that had never seen it. There was only so much she could do to try and remember it. Imagine it? Think of it, and yet it stuck out so clearly in her mind.
She could hear the high pitched whiny voice calling her a nag. Could smell the dirty laundry ‘hidden’ under the desk. Could feel the ratty old cotton Star Wars blanket between her fingers. But none of it was here.
Something ached fiercely in her chest.
She gripped her shirt tight over her heart, tears welling up in her eyes.
She’d forgotten him. She looked out for him—cared for him—for so so long, but she’d forgotten him. Like some trashy teen magazine article.
And—and she needed to find him. He was always being reckless out with his friends hunting—hunting ghosts of all things (oh god, ghosts exist and she forgot and he had been fighting them without her help—).
She went for the door, yanking it open and trying not to hyperventilate.
Jazz needed to find him, she needed to help him, she needed to—
Jazz blinked. She stared at the open door to her own room with a frown. “Why did I leave my room?”
She jumped as she heard something swing shut behind her. When she turned she noticed the door to the empty room, shut and covered with cobwebs. She shuddered and inched away from it.
“Jazz, sweetie, would you mind closing the window?” Mom called.
The window?
A gust of air blew against her side, sending her hair every which way. Right, the window.
She pulled the hallway window shut, an air of finality settling in her bones.
—
“Nocturn!” The shout echoed down the long, stretching corridor along with the bang of the door slamming open. Within moments, a blur of black and white sped into the room.
“You know you could’ve just knocked,” Nocturn said. “I would’ve considered letting you in my second favourite dreamer if you were polite about it.”
“What’d you do with—” Danny paused. “Wait. Second?”
Nocturn swept open his cloak, revealing a figure just a tad taller than Danny himself floating close to his chest, her head bowed.
A swirling mess of dark purple, blue, and black speckled with shining white stars were painted on her skin. Her hair was a dark shade of orange and flowed freely around her, as if underwater.
“Well, my dear? Shall we entertain our guest?”
She lifted her head and Danny gasped. Her face was free of paint, but blank, bereft of all features save a waterfall of neverending black tears down her cheeks. But even without a face, Danny could recognize her. Could never not recognize the very reason he came here in the first place.
That—that was—
“Yes, Lord Nocturn,” Jazz said.

Loblaws Boycott. How to get affordable food?
Today is May 1st; which means it is the start of the Loblaws Boycott across Canada. For those unfamiliar with the situation, food prices in Canada have been climbing to astronomical sums. Our main chain Grocery Stores keep increasing prices beyond what is normal inflation. Because they know as Mortals, we need to eat. And the further north you go, the worse it gets. They have already been caught artificially raising Bread prices a few years back, and blaming the price hike on the War in Ukraine. They set a price, We pay for it, and then they keep the price cause clearly people are willing to pay /s
So a boycott has been organized by people of Canada through social media and has even been talked about by TV News Outlets. The idea being to speak with your wallet and pressure change. The problem for many, however, is...Loblaws is just so massive, they don't see other alternatives. They own No Frills, Great Canadian Superstore, Shoppers Drugmart, and a ton more. For many Canadians, it seems like Loblaws is their only option in their area.
So I want to provide a list of some options for people to still get fed. Or even if you don't want to engage in the boycott, you just wanna find affordable food.
Costco and Walmart If a friend of family member has a Costco Membership and is willing to take you with them, do it. The workers there don't police who has the membership, so long as someone has one. You can bulk buy a bunch of staples like Meat, Cheese, Toilet Paper and Coffee for much cheaper in the long run. However, Buying in bulk is not always feasible for everyone. They either don't have the space or they can't afford to drop a few hundred dollars on a single shop. Walmart is a controversial suggestion because they have some....history. And your values may require you to not shop at Walmart. But if you need some accessible groceries for reasonable prices, Walmart actually has a very good selection.
2) International/Local Stores This is not really an option if you live more rural. But if you can find a nearby Asian Grocer or Halal Store you can get a lot of stuff. And not just rice. Legumes, Beans, Meat, Seafood; you'd be surprised how much you can get. You may also find a gem of a bakery or butcher.
3) Farmers Markets It's getting to growing season in Canada. Be Sure to check your near by Farmers Markets. You'll mostly find Fruits and Veggies, but may also be some local honey and eggs if you're lucky. This is also a great option for people who feel eating Organic food is important.
4) Food Waste Apps There is a surprising amount of apps dedicated to preventing food waste by selling you food that is about to be thrown away. The food is still good, and the reason for Discarding varies, but commonly it's because it's approaching it's best before date or Expiration date. Food can still be consumed after it's best before date, so long as it's not spoilt. Different areas will have different Levels of Activity on Different apps. A store needs to opt in before you can buy anything. So check out a few different ones. Flash Foods, Food Hero, and Too Good to Go are popular.
5) Ugly Food Boxes A lot of food gets chucked cause it doesn't conform to our expectation of how that food should look. It grew in a weird way and despite being totally fine to eat; Stores don't want to sell them. So you can get Subscription Boxes of Ugly Produce. Which I think is kinda fun. I remember being younger and my mom pointing out the funny shaped peppers. This isn't entirely a new concept, and many people would of probably heard of Imperfect Foods. However, this is a USA only service; useless to us Canadians. But we can try Odd Bunch or Eat Impact. The bonus with this is it's delivered directly to you. Great for people like myself who can't Drive but love to cook.
6) Meal Kits You see it all the time on Youtube: Try Hello Fresh and get so many meals free, yada yada. Well....it might be worth a try. You can cancel these kits at any time, and them hop back on them later. Like a streaming service. A friend of mine apparently does this. Ordering a box when the value of what they're offering is worth the price to her. Not a great option if you tend to forget to cancel subscriptions *cough* (Hi) but it can be a really smart way to get exactly what you want for a good price. Plus if you use a sponsor code, or a coupon in the mail.... Hello Fresh and Make Good Food are the two more well known meal kits available in Canada.

MUN'S FAVORITES. Tag 10 people you want to know better
Favorite color(s): if i'm being honest, my favorites are a TON of very specific colors, my favorite colors are less Overall my favorite colors and more-so the way colors work together, if that makes sense?? you can really tell I'm an artist and who enjoys Impressionism and Fauvism-esque art-styles BGHKTRB if I HAD to pick: blue-greens, wine reds, off-whites, a variety of browns, etc. My favorite colors tend to be warm or otherwise in the general Radius of That, 'earthy tones' or neutrals. ( maybe not what you'd expect when Quillheel's color scheme is a desaturated blue and gold, esp since yellow is surprisingly low on my list BKHB )
Song stuck in your head: One Great City! - The Weakerthans !!! ( The driver checks the mirror seven minutes late / The crowded riders' restlessness enunciates / The Guess Who suck, the Jets were lousy anyway / The same route every day )
Last song you listened to: Expert in a Dying Field - The Beths !!!
3 favorite foods: chicken & broccoli alfredo pasta, strawberry ice-cream ( or Neapolitan, fudge or vanilla bean! ), sea-salt chocolate ( or hazelnut coffee if it counts? )
Dream trip: I really, REALLY want to move to Canada to be with one of my best friend and then get my other bestie up there as well so we can live together, and its 100% a future I'm striving for!!! though, ig that doesn't count since it's technically a future housing prospect not a trip... maybe going to a little city in France or visiting family in Florida? I'm not very sure! I've never been a huge traveler, i enjoy a lot of the smaller moments along the way :] I'd like to Maine again eventually
Anything I want rn: i REALLY want to go to the library and the store and get some books & fabric + stuffing so I can make stuffed animals with 'em since I've recently figured out Some aspects of sewing and find it REALLY enjoyable!!!! ( much more than crochet, funnily! ) I just wanna spend time outside at a park or smth kinda honestly, I don't get the opt often

Sorry, the what conspiracy?
Tim Hortons is a very popular fast food chain in Canada as you may or may not know. For decades they were the best place to get cheap coffee but now most Canadians prefer to get their coffee from McDonalds. (Or McDicks as some call it up here). The switch happened almost overnight around 7ish years ago. The story goes that Tim Hortons was acquired by another company (its either a Brazilian company or burger King I can't remember which but I know this part is for sure true) and supposedly they changed their coffee beans supplier. Then McDonald's bought the beans from the old Tim Hortons supplier. Then everyone switched to drinking McDonald's coffee because it tasted better but no one knew why. Canadians could just instinctually taste it

Pros and Cons of Replacing Your Coffee Beans
When it comes to coffee beans, there are a lot of different options out there. If you’re not happy with the coffee beans you’re using, or if you want to try something new, Replacing your coffee beans is always an option. Here are some pros and cons to consider before making the switch:
PROS: -You may find better quality coffee beans.
-You can explore different flavor profiles by trying new types of beans.
-You may be able to find a more sustainable option.
CONS: -It can be expensive to constantly be buying new bags of coffee beans.
-You might not like the new coffee beans as much as the old ones.
-There is a learning curve when it comes to brewing with new coffee beans.
The Link Between Coffee and Diabetes
There is a strong link between coffee and diabetes. Coffee beans contain a lot of sugar, which can cause spikes in blood sugar levels. This can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
Coffee also contains caffeine, which can cause problems for people with diabetes. Caffeine can raise blood sugar levels and make it harder to control blood sugar. It can also make it difficult to get enough sleep, which is important for managing diabetes.
People with diabetes should talk to their doctor about whether or not they should drink coffee.

Navigating the Financial Landscape: A Guide for Canadian Students
Hey there, folks! Today, we're diving into the world of dollars and cents, talking about something we all care about—money. In particular, let's shed some light on financial wisdom tailored for the bright minds of Canadian students. Buckle up for a ride through the financial landscape, Anderson Cooper style.
Mastering the Art of Budgeting: Because Every Dollar Counts
In the Great White North, where poutine and politeness reign supreme, it's crucial for students to master the art of budgeting. We're not talking about depriving yourself of those double-doubles or late-night Timbits runs, but about being savvy with your spending.
Study Abroad in Canada: Expanding Horizons
And speaking of gaining experience, let's touch on the magic of study abroad in Canada. Picture this: immersing yourself in the rich tapestry of Canadian culture, studying against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Unleash the Power of the Spreadsheet
First off, let's talk spreadsheets. No, it's not a snooze-fest; it's your financial superhero. Create a simple budgeting spreadsheet, noting down your income and expenses. Be as meticulous as a beaver building a dam—every dollar needs a purpose.
Student Discounts: Because Who Doesn't Love a Good Deal?
Now, let's spill the beans on a well-kept secret—student discounts. From textbooks to tech gadgets, your student ID is your golden ticket to savings. Embrace it like a warm cup of cocoa on a winter day. Look for discounts at local stores, online shops, and even your favorite coffee joint. Trust me, your wallet will thank you.
Navigating Credit Cards: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Credit cards, my friends, can be a double-edged sword. Used wisely, they can boost your credit score and offer perks. But wielded carelessly, and you might find yourself drowning in debt faster than you can say "eh."
The Lowdown on Interest Rates
Understand those interest rates. It's like understanding the rules of hockey—essential. A low-interest rate is your best friend, while a high one is the opponent trying to body-check you into financial chaos. Read the fine print, and if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Student Loans: Navigating the Path to Education
Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room—student loans. Many of us have been there, and it's not as daunting as it seems. Think of it as a temporary bridge to your future self, one that's armed with knowledge and a shiny degree.
The Importance of Responsible Borrowing
Borrow only what you need. It's not a shopping spree; it's an investment in your education. Take time to understand the terms and conditions, and remember, paying back those loans is like a marathon, not a sprint.
Part-Time Hustles: Balancing Work and Study
In the fast-paced world of student life, finding that perfect balance between work and study abroad is like juggling flaming hockey pucks. It's tricky, but not impossible.
Freelancing: Turning Passion into Paycheck
Consider freelancing or part-time gigs related to your field of study. Whether you're an aspiring writer or a coding genius, there are platforms out there eager to pay for your skills. It's not just about the extra cash; it's about gaining real-world experience.
Building Credit: A Financial Beacon for the Future
As you navigate the stormy seas of student life, think of building credit as your North Star. A good credit score can open doors in the future, whether it's renting your own igloo or financing your dream sled—eh, car.
The Golden Rule: Pay Your Bills on Time
It's not rocket science; it's financial wisdom 101. Pay your bills on time. Set reminders, tie a string around your finger, do whatever it takes. Late payments are like snowflakes—unique, but too many can cause an avalanche of financial woes.
Wrapping It Up: Financial Freedom Awaits
So there you have it, a crash course in financial wisdom tailored for the savvy students of the Great White North. From budgeting like a pro to mastering the art of credit, consider this your playbook for financial success. Remember, in the vast wilderness of financial matters, you're not alone. So go forth, conquer those financial peaks, and let the loonies and toonies rain down on your newfound financial wisdom. Cheers, eh!

Note
The discount is pretty sweet and so is the free pound of coffee a week. I had a few liked. Most you can't get anymore cause product was discontinued.
Discontinued:
SAR LEM with guava infusion, no berries - they're pointless and I don't need them for the aesthetic
VBF with raspberry
BHR LEM with raspberry - it tasted like bubblegum!!!
Still around:
Venti light ice soy chai with an extra pump
Blonde toffee nut latte - extra hot or warm, depending on when I order it
Very rarely:
Grande iced blonde americano
Undertow with two blonde shots and vanilla and half and half
ohhh i haven’t taken my markout since my second week because i’m drowning in beans alshshdvd
the raspberry!! i didn’t realize it was going to be discontinued in canada too and my store ran out of its last bottle a few days ago so i never got to try any drinks with it ;-; starbucks rly likes to discontinue the best stuff tho. bhr just ✨hit different✨ and cool lime? unmatched
ooo the blonde espresso makes everything taste so much smoother, eh? also great minds, i took a venti iced chai latte home with me today
#onyx#boosyboo9206#one day i’ll remember the tags i used to use for asks aksjshhdd#also when a customer orders a tall blonde i think of sanji from live action one piece and think ‘don’t we all’
