Secretly glad that Magnus was too drained to conjure a portal, they made their way back to the apartment on foot.

“Are all the warlocks still here? I’d like to thank them for their help,” Alec said as they approached the door.

“No, they left once they heard about the victory. But I’ll be sure to pass on the message.” Magnus’ eyes were warm as he looked at Alec before shouldering open the door and pulling him inside.

Alec let out a sigh of relief at finally being home again. Sure, he had a room at the Institute, decorated with a few pictures and personal things. But Magnus’ had become his safe place, and the loss of it had been heavy over the past few days. The familiarity of the red and orange tones warmed Alec to the core, and he felt the tension of everything that had happened drain out of him. It made him smile to see some of his things still around, like his spare jacket on the coat rack, and his favorite blanket on the couch.

“Much, much better Alexander. Trust me,” Magnus grinned, reaching a hand up to cup Alec’s cheek before guiding his lips down to his. They fell into each other’s kiss as they had since the very first time, lips molding as if they were made to fit together.

Alec pulled back just slightly, grinning when Magnus leaned forward, searching for his lips again. He kissed him again with a chuckle.

“I think there is some steak and a bath to be arranged.”

“Priorities,” Magnus growled, hands on the front of Alec’s jacket, pulling him forward so they were pressed against each other even closer. The chill left on them from the city streets was long gone, a familiar burning warming both of them from the inside out.  

“We have all night,” Alec said, though it took all his self-restraint he had to not give in.

“Not long enough,” Magnus protested.

“I don’t want you to exhaust yourself, you’ve done plenty today. You need to recover. Dinner first,” Alec murmured, kissing his boyfriend again before taking his hands and walking backwards, leading him to the kitchen.

“Looks like you’ll have to do the work tonight then,” Magnus smirked, kicking off his shoes and reaching for the collar of Alec’s jacket, pulling it off of him.

Alec felt as if he’d been punched in the gut. He pulled back from Magnus, his back pressing against the side of the tub. His panic must have been plain on his face, because Magnus immediately began to backtrack, grabbing his hand.
