CPN : Why the Camera 📸 is driving us mad 🫶🏼
sometimes i forget that not everyone will get the reason why a certain number of cpfs are screaming about something. or if they do, is it because of only the present candy or is there a history behind it. this is something i find hard to gauge and i usually just post very quickly in hopes that people get it. most of the time i have a post about that “history” and link it but for this one i did share some bits but not enough to connect the dots.
that’s the purpose of this post, to hopefully connect events and make sense of the story.
Let’s start with the whole “LEICA” story and why we think it’s a gift to match ZZ’s. Back in April, there was a whole CPN about an alleged camera that was good for vlogging given by WYB to ZZ to take to Milan. It’s a Sony camera, but the point is, WYB gave ZZ a camera to take to his trip abroad in Europe. Now it’s ZZ who is allegedly giving him a camera ( Leica ) to take with him to Paris. Both are big events related to Fashion week and while they cannot be together, giving each other a proper camera is a way to to be connected. It’s an incentive for them to take photos and share with each other after. Apparently, taking photos from their iphones or their team’s camera ( take note, WYB was with someone holding a proper camera with a big ass lens too ) is not enough. They should have their own.
The reason why this made us all 👀 was we were already speculating that WYB had a new camera back in Mid Autumn Festival.
This is personally why I was screaming cause the clowning is correct. Even before we saw WYB in the streets of Paris using the actual Leica camera, turtles were already guessing he didn’t take the Moon photo with a camera phone. Based on the quality, dimensions and size of the file. All the more how accurate the kind of camera is.
( excuse the auto translate but you all get the point, it’s leica — a proper camera, not a phone. this was posted 9/29/2023. )
Also Yibo-official added fuel to this because instead of reposting and giving the same greeting like they usually do, they praised Photographer WYB. 📸
This was out of the ordinary, it’s like they know something. Turns out, they do. WYB has a new camera that he is playing with ^^
ZZ has a leica camera. This should not come as a surprise knowing part of his job before is being a photographer.
( for reference some of XZ’s known camera/s. the ones used in commercials tho, not sure if it’s his. )
ZZ is Leica Q2 ( spotted as early as 2019 ) and WYB is Leica M11. It’s so freakin expensive. WYB is many things but he is not exactly a photographer. Yes, he takes photos for his personal documentation and shares it to friends. Sometimes, he shares to the public, but I don’t think an amateur will buy something like this. He may be rich and the cost of this is virtually nothing to him, but I personally feel like if you’re starting out, you wouldn’t choose this. All the more buy it as “i-need-a-camera-cause-i’m-going-to-paris” purchase.
The CPN is, ZZ, who knows his way with cameras/photography and only wants what’s best for the love of his life —- gives him this, and what better time to play with it than a trip abroad. The Moon photo is him testing it out, and maybe he already has other photos that he just doesn’t share.
This is actually on brand for this couple. Matching Gucci lion head necklace? Check. Matching Shoes? Check. Matching clothes? Check. Matching phone case? Check. Matching Apple watch? Check. So this Couple Camera is part of a pattern and makes sense 🤍
-END.

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a good year. It's been quite a while since I was last posting here regularly - I think maybe February or March. A number of you have written to me over the past many months to ask if I was OK and if I’d be returning with daily updates about scouting, and I’m sorry I haven’t gotten back sooner.
The simple answer for why I haven’t been sharing stories and pictures from my life as a movie location scout is that, since March of this year, I haven’t been a movie location scout.
As you may have heard, the film industry had two major strikes this year. The first kicked off on May 1 when the Writers Guild decided strike; the second on July 14, when SAG joined them on the picket lines.
But if you look at the timeline, something’s off. If the strikes didn’t begin until May, why have I been out of work since March?
When you work in film and TV, you go from project to project, as opposed to working directly for a particular studio. In January, I was just wrapping up the final season of FX’s Snowfall, one my favorite shows I’ve ever scouted for (you really get to explore your dark side when you’re asked to find creative places to stage murders and drug deals on a weekly basis!).
Typically, there are always a number of new productions gearing up at the beginning of the year, and it rarely takes longer than a few weeks to hop on something. Except, as I started reaching out to see what was on the horizon, something became starkly clear: there was nothing.
It quickly became apparent that the studios, anticipating that the strikes were likely to happen, opted to simply halt all new productions. That meant that by the time you heard about the writers strike in May, thousands of below-the-line crew like myself had already been out of work for months, with many more months to go.
I know hindsight is 20/20 and all, but I still kick myself for not predicting what was likely to happen in advance. Ha, in fact, as proof of my ignorance, when my five-year-old camera finally broke toward the end of Snowfall, I decided it was the perfect time to treat myself to a brand-new Sony set-up. That new camera has sat unused on my shelf laughing at me ever since.
Once I realized the severity of the situation, two things became clear: one, the strikes were going to last for a long time. And two, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it, other than to find a way for my family and I to survive until everything resolved.
As part of this effort, I made the conscious decision to focus my attention only on things I could control, and that were positive influences in my life. For that reason, I had to turn away from anything industry-related (a good decision in hindsight, as roughly 95% of the media predictions and insider sources about the strikes turned out to be wrong).
And by extension, I also stepped back from posting here. It was just too sad to try to write with my normal enthusiasm about scouting and exploring when everything about my work was in such upheaval.
Both strikes have now come to an end, and despite all the pessimistic naysayers, both unions wound up with extremely good deals that the studios initially swore were simply not possible. Though I’m neither SAG nor WGA, all of the benefits and protections I have from being a Teamster only come from working in an industry with extremely strong unions. If there was any question, 2023 made it undeniably clear.
My family has made it through, our credit scores bruised but otherwise happy and healthy and looking forward to a much brighter 2024. I was able to accomplish several projects that would have literally never happened if not for the strikes, including one creative endeavor that may be the best thing I’ve ever written and I can’t wait to share with you.
Hollywood has been slow to re-open, and I’m still waiting to put that camera to use on the first post-strike feature or TV show. Thankfully though, some print advertising work in the past few weeks has given me an excuse to finally take it off the shelf and wipe the dust off. And there are growing rumblings that the TV/movie floodgates should burst soon.
Finally, I wanted to end the year on a positive note by putting out the delayed third issue of my Scout Stories publication. This one is for you Scouting NY fans, and focuses on my all-time favorite “hidden in plain sight” locations and finds on the streets of New York from my ten years of scouting there. I’ll have the big announcement with purchase links up either later today or tomorrow, and they will definitely come in time for Christmas, should you be looking for a unique stocking stuffer!
So that’s what’s happened, where I’ve been, what I’ve been up to, and what’s ahead. If you asked me to sum up 2023, I’d say that financially, it was terrible! But in all truth, it was a happy year, simply because I made it a point to focus on the things that brought happiness.
Sharing my work as a scout with you has always made me happy, and I’m very much looking forward to doing a lot more of it in the coming year.
Happy holidays!
Nick

Nine more minutes of footage would take Pedro Almodóvar’s film “Strange Way of Life” from a live action short frontrunner to a best picture contender.
To be eligible for the Academy Awards’ best picture category, a film must have a minimum 40-minute runtime. Almodóvar’s movie runs 31 minutes. With those extra nine minutes, we could also highlight the worthiness of actors Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal and the project’s artisan categories. But for his second English language endeavor, coming three years after “The Human Voice” with Tilda Swinton, the Spanish auteur’s sensibilities are never lacking. His new Spanish Western stands proudly next to some of his most audacious movies such as “Talk to Her” and “Volver.”
A rainy Wednesday in the south of France didn’t keep crowds of ticket rushers and fans from trying to get a glimpse of Almodóvar’s short film starring Pascal and Hawke. Almodóvar and Hawke participated in a post-screening Q&A to discuss the project, sitting next to translators. Pascal was not in attendance, reportedly due to going into production this week for an unnamed role in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2.”
The film tells the story of Silva (Pascal), who rides a horse across the desert to visit his friend Jake (Hawke), who is a sheriff. What follows is a story of vengeance, intrigue and forbidden love.
Almodóvar referenced Westerns such Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” as a source of inspiration. “The lead character’s sexuality is kind of ambivalent,” Almodóvar said about Campion’s film. “But they didn’t fuck.” The line drew an eruption of laughter from the audience.
Hawke talked about how the act of pointing a camera at someone is in itself an act of love. “You are saying these people are important enough to care about. It’s always about love, in some capacity. I just like to be wanted. And if happens to be an extremely attractive man…I just like it.”
Discussing his character Jake, a sheriff who is torn by 25 years of forbidden love and the justice he aims to serve, he found the realism in his depiction. “There’s a way that we are, and a way we want to be. They’re not always the same. It creates cracks in us. Lies in us. I found him to be a fascinating character.”
Almodóvar and Hawke shared their admirations of the genre with both declaring at some point during their conversation, “The Western is very much alive.”
In a world where auteurs are becoming increasingly entitled to overly long runtimes, “Strange Way of Life” begs for more and could have easily been a full-length feature.
Signature Almodóvar imagery is on display, with wine pouring from barrels in an erotic scene that depicts younger versions of Silva and Jake. Pascal also sports a bold green jacket on his horse and a shirt that hangs just low enough to keep him from going full frontal for the audience, although his bare butt will make his fans plenty excited.
Distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, the film will be released later in 2023.

OFFICE meeting (11.10.24)
I am 1st Ac on the film workshop film called 'OFFICE'. The group is very well organised and during the meeting came very prepared, had loads of backstory on all the characters, location booked. It made me feel like I was getting into a good production and working with a good crew. We unfortunately couldn't get the ursa booked so will be using the Sony fx6, this makes it a little more complicated when it comes to focus assist. We had a bit of confusion with trying to get this sorted as we the focus asset available in the store isn't compatible with the camera without extra piece. Some of the crew weren't aware of this so it wasn't booked out, this meant I was left in a position with nearly no job on set. Due to last minute realisation Tomás (the director) had to order a focus assist online so I can use on set. So the situation has been resolved but it is not the best circumstances.
Overall the meeting went well, we all got a first read through of the script together. This was an effective way to do it as then we could all ask and answer questions to make sure we all fully understand the script. We went through equipment lists, this is where I was made aware there was a focus assist added but was not made aware of the removal of it later on. We also went over rough timings of the equipment pick up and drop off and shooting times. This is a good crew and everyone is passionate and hardworking so I am excited for the shoot this Thursday!
When I applied for this film for the role of 1st Ac I sent in the 200 words, giving some details on the types of shots and how I see it being filmed. I also sent them a scene example for lighting and camera angles. It was the bar scene from the film 'Past Lives' (2023) by Celine Song. I love that film and think the bar scene is beautifully lit and how I see Office looking. The director took this into consideration and added it to his moodpboard and showed the scene in the meeting.

Eurovision 2005 - Number 6 - Helena Paparizou - "My Number One"
youtube
Here she is again, and for her crowning moment in Eurovision history. She'd already finished third in 2001 with Antique, and for 2005, ERT had decided that what they needed was a proven success for Greece. To that end, the changed their selection process from a national final to a song selection final in which Helena was to sing four songs and the public got to chose which was the best.
I strongly dislike song selection finals. It's the worst of both worlds. There's already been an internal selection. If they've chosen the wrong artist, nothing can be altered. Then you're relying on the public to chose the best song - and there's a reason several countries are increasingly choosing internal selection. The public can't often be trusted to make a good decision.
In this case, however, Helena is a proven Eurovision artists, who can sing, perform, and who fits perfectly the genre du jour, the girl-bop. She is the boppiest girl around. It had taken a while to confirm her as the selected artists as it seems other names were in contention who had demands that ERT deemed unreasonable. In the end, even if Helena hadn't been the number one choice, she was the correct one.
The song that won the selection was, appropriately, My Number One written by Christos Dantis, Manos Psaltakis and with lyrics by Christos and Natalia Germanou. Three song-writers with some music industry experience but no Eurovision pedigree. It had to beat only two others songs as one of the four songs she was supposed to perform was disqualified before the final. The song-writer had already released a version on Amazon prior the cut-off date, thus breaking the hallowed rules of Eurovision.
In fact none of the songs Helena had been given had any writers with Eurovision experience. The songs had come from an open submission process and were selected not just by ERT, but also in conjunction with Sony BMG. The music industry were continuing to find Eurovision to be an opportunity they couldn't ignore.
There is one other magic factor that led to Helena and Greece's success. The staging. One of the reasons that the girl bops dominated from 2003-2005 was the bopping part. They needed choreography and staging. They weren't content to stand in front of microphones and sing. Dancing, costuming, lighting and camera movement were just as important. Here Greece used Fokas Evangelinos, who had first directed Greece's Eurovision entry the year before. He knew what he was doing and would go on to have a very lengthy career as a Eurovision stage director.
What Helena, Ruslana and Sertab proved was that you needed something else besides just a voice and a song. They could all sing while performing increasingly energetic and elaborate choreography. If you were a rock band and wanted to win Eurovision, you were going need something else, something extra...
The song itself is perhaps the most ideal example of the combination between pop and traditional and ethnic sounds. Here it's not just in the instrumentation chosen, but also the dance moves in the staging. That Helena and Greece share the same name origins only makes it more perfect - even if she is Swedish.
When it came to the scoreboard, it wasn't that close. This was no 2003 with a dramatic conclusion. There had been boos for some acts, but they weren't in the running this year. Greece won its first ever Eurovision maintaining the streak of first time winners that stretched back to 2001.
Helena is Eurovision icon - she's had a long and highly successful career with Europe wide-touring, eleven albums, nearly seventy singles, the most recent two of which were released this year (2024). She has been rumoured to return on other occasions including the possibility that she would have sung Fuego for Cyprus in 2018. She also entered Melfest in 2014.
Here's one of her more recent singles, form 2023, Δε Μου Τα Λέει Καλά. She's still got it.

With the ever-evolving technology landscape, the art of capturing the blissful moments of a wedding has seen revolutionary changes. Filmmakers now have access to an array of cameras that offer not just high-quality videos, but also a suite of features that can elevate the viewing experience. This transition is largely powered by the shift towards digital formats, particularly in the embrace of DSLR and mirrorless cameras for their unmatched versatility and video prowess.
DSLR Versus Mirrorless: The Great Debate
When pinning down the perfect camera for wedding filmmaking, the battle often boils down to DSLR versus mirrorless cameras. Each type comes with its distinct advantages. DSLRs are known for their robust battery life and extensive lens variety, making them a staple in traditional wedding video production. On the other hand, mirrorless cameras are praised for their compactness, cutting-edge autofocus systems, and superior video functions that are crucial for capturing dynamic wedding events.

Behind The Lens: Ferns Francois
Imagery: Matteo Valente
Ferns Francois, who has lived in Lynn for 33 years, is a local business owner and community leader who was recognized as Local Black Excellence by the North Shore Juneteenth Association in February.
“I pride myself on speaking on behalf of the people who most need it. The children of immigrants, immigrants that need asylum, immigrants that need jobs, need a safe place to raise their family, the homeless, that’s what I’m proud of,” Francois told The Item at the association’s Local Black Excellence event in February. “Black people always need a platform… Sometimes we have to make platforms, we have to create space because we have to represent ourselves.”
Francois came to Lynn in 1990 at the age of 4 with his parents. More than 30 years later, he is raising a family of his own in the city with his wife, Danielle Francois, as they welcomed a baby boy in 2023. Not only do the couple make time to take care of their growing infant — they also make time to take care of their growing photography business.
For the past five years, Ferns and Danielle have worked together in the fields of photography and filmmaking, which eventually led them to open up their own business, Francois Studios, just two years ago. From that point on, the couple has produced work displaying the beauty and art of people and life. The studio offers a range of services that can cater to a variety of different events, branding, headshots, engagement, boudoir, and even filmmaking services including music videos, Instagram reels, and more.
Ferns is also no stranger to the other side of the camera. Since 2013, the photographer has modeled for an agency, Maggie Inc. Through the agency, he had booked gigs for brands such as Puma, Converse, Reebok, and New Balance. Advertisements featuring him have been on buildings and companies’ social-media platforms. As of late, he has put his modeling on hold to raise his son and focus on the business full time.
GETTING STARTED
Francois came to Lynn in 1990 at the age of 4 with his parents. One thing Ferns loves to do is travel. His adventures are documented on Travel Bugsss, an Instagram account he shares with his wife. The account features them traveling to places such as Italy, Thailand, London, and New York and capturing their time spent at these locations. That’s where the journey to Francois Studios took off.
“My wife and I wanted to travel, and for us it was a new adventure that we were going into together. I had done some traveling with family, but this was an us thing, so immediately I wanted to document it,” Ferns said. “iPhones and Instagram were already a thing at the time, so I decided to buy a camera. I invested in my first camera, which was a Canon Rebel 26, and that started our joint journey into photography. We really couldn’t put it down.”
More than 30 years later, he is raising a family of his own in the city with his wife, Danielle Francois, as they welcomed a baby boy in 2023. Not only do the couple make time to take care of their growing infant — they also make time to take care of their growing photography business.
HONING HIS CRAFT
Ferns said that he has always had an interest in photography, adding that his mom was one of the reasons he got interested in the first place. His dad had recording equipment such as camcorders, and his mom adopted that interest. A Sony Minicam was one of the cameras that she owned and he would take that when he went on vacation. With these things around him, he found a way to utilize them and eventually started to refine his craft.
“You probably don’t remember the square or rectangular Sony cameras. They were always available at Best Buy for $400 or something like that. They were about 10 megapixels, and this was before the smartphone and so it could fit in your pocket,” Ferns recalled. “So I would take them to clubs, to friends’ events, and I had a friend who had a wedding when I was about 20 and I took photos not thinking I was gonna be a photographer, but something I picked up just because it was there. Eventually people start asking you, ‘Hey, can you do this for me?’”
HIS INFLUENCES
When asked about photographers that he admires, there were two who came to Ferns’ mind.
“My Tom Bradys or Michael Jordans are James Felix and Prince Meyson. If my work were at that level, I’d be good,” Ferns said. “(Felix’s) work now is more risque, it’s in the boudoir realm. It’s not even so much the content for me, it’s the lighting and the finishing. It’s got this warmth, and it’s very consistent. He uses sunlight a lot. I think he’s somewhere… like Arizona, so he gets tons of sun. It’s that golden hour kind of sun and he uses it to his advantage. The photos are just dreamy and warm. I don’t mind modifiers, you can do so many creative things with them, but shooting in natural light and having a beautiful product in my mind is every photographer’s dream. Prince Meyson is one I watch on YouTube. His work is so great, and he also gives great tutorials. I’ve learned a lot from his work, and his tutorials.”
Local artists inspire him as well. He mentioned that he sees a lot of them on his timeline and respects the work they put out.
“We’re all doing something similar, but also taking very different approaches to it,” Ferns said.
FAVORITE SUBJECT MATTER
“If I boil it down to where I’m having the most fun, it’s probably fun events,” Ferns said, describing his favorite subject to photograph.
“Capturing beautiful candid moments for me is the most satisfying.”
His appreciation for fashion shoots doesn’t go unnoticed either.
“Sure, when I’m doing fashion and I get a great edit that I’m really proud of, if the client is also very proud of it, I get a kick out of that. But that’s a longer payoff. That payoff comes way at the end, when you deliver the final image,” Ferns said.
Capturing candid moments that will live on forever in people’s lives is also something Ferns is keen on.
With a laugh, Ferns went on to share some moments that made him jubilant.
“I’ve caught some crazy stuff on camera. You know how some friends will have some unique daps, I’ve seen people with unique dances. I’m like, ‘You greet each other that way? That’s so dope!’” he said.
THE MAN ON THE WALL
If you’re not familiar with Ferns , or Francois Studios’ work, perhaps you’ve seen him in Downtown Lynn. If you’ve driven, or walked by, 23 Central Ave. in the last four years, you’ve most likely seen a larger-than-life mural of a man painted on the side of the building. Who is that man? Ferns himself. It is one of many murals around the city that were created through a collaboration between Beyond Walls and a group of artists found locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Although humbled and honored, he said he finds it to be a difficult thing to embrace all the time.
“I’ve seen Lynn go from a bit of a slum. It really earned its reputation ‘Lynn, Lynn, city of sin.’ Drug busts every month on the street over from me starting from 1997 to 2003. On our street police routinely, every two hours, would patrol that zone, they had to. I’ve seen it go from that to what it is today, which is a thriving community, both in its people and its economy. Education is still faltering, but everywhere else I’ve seen vast improvements, and I’m very proud of that,” Ferns said. “Lynn is somewhere to be proud of. The strides they’ve made, the people that live here, this is where I’m from.”
Feeling inspired and invigorated, Ferns wanted to get more involved in the community. Using their travel vlog brand, Ferns and Danielle talked about Beyond Walls and what they’ve been doing for the community. They then created a video displaying where the new murals would be for a festival. Beyond Walls caught wind of the video and loved it, establishing a friendly business relationship with Francois Studios. Beyond Walls played a big role in Francois Studios becoming a profitable business. It was the studio’s first big client, even though it is a nonprofit.
“He is committed to painting someone local to the community that brought him in,” Ferns said about Smug. “He brings in his immense talent and he honors someone within that community.”
When it came down to choosing who to paint for his mural in Lynn, Ferns was one of the names that came to mind.
“Fate had it, when he was doing research about Lynn after they made contact with him, he came upon one of the videos I made on behalf of Beyond Walls. Before he even got on a plane to come over here, he was already acquainted with me, with my work. Then he asked Beyond Walls, ‘Who should I consider?’ and I’m one of the names they put forth. I guess it was so serendipitous to him that he was like, ‘This has got to be the guy, right?’” Ferns said.
He went on to say that he knows there are people who do not agree with the decision.
“I don’t want to make that mural just about me. I don’t post about it all the time, sometimes I will repost it when people post it because I am grateful and I want to share his work and I want to honor his work and the work Beyond Walls has done, but it’s definitely a point of contention for me because I don’t wanna come across as arrogant because I’m on a mural. I’m not that person. I’m just someone who’s extremely proud of Lynn, Massachusetts who hadn’t been in the past, and wants to be a part of its resurrection, or its revolution,” he said.
KIDS WITH A VISION
Through LEAP for Education, which Ferns was referred to by John Andrews at Creative Collective, Ferns was brought in to speak and present to Marshall Middle School’s photography class. The goals of his visit were to inspire the kids, to educate them on the potential pitfalls of owning a photography business, and to show them pathways for success.
“Kids really are the future. I wish I could give back more, so why not give back to kids who are interested in a field that I’m pretty good at,” Ferns said.
He spent the class providing his expertise, answering questions, giving some guidance, and taking interest in the students’ work.
“Some of their work was pretty awesome, and I’m glad they were proud to share it with me,” he said.

Choosing the perfect camera for a beginner can be a daunting task. There are so many different types and brands of cameras out there, how can you know which one is right for you? But don't worry, we're here to help. Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a camera for a beginner:Type of Camera One of the first things you'll want to consider when choosing a camera is the type of camera. There are three main types of cameras: point-and-shoot, DSLR, and mirrorless. Point-and-Shoot Cameras Point-and-shoot cameras are the most basic type of camera. They're small, lightweight, and easy to use. Most point-and-shoot cameras have a fixed lens, which means you can't change the lens. Point-and-shoot cameras are a good choice for beginners who want an easy-to-use camera. DSLR Cameras DSLR cameras are more advanced than point-and-shoot cameras. They're larger and heavier, and they have more features. DSLR cameras have interchangeable lenses, so you can change the lens to get different types of shots. DSLR cameras are a good choice for beginners who want to get more serious about photography. Mirrorless Cameras Mirrorless cameras are the newest type of camera on the market. They're similar to DSLR cameras, but they're smaller and lighter. Mirrorless cameras also have interchangeable lenses, so you can get different types of shots. Mirrorless cameras are a good choice for beginners who want to get more serious about photography. Brand of Camera Once you've decided on the type of camera you want, you'll need to choose a brand. Some of the most popular camera brands are Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm. You'll want to read reviews and compare prices to find the best camera for your needs. Price Cameras can range in price from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. You'll want to consider your budget when choosing a camera. If you're just getting started, you might want to buy a cheaper camera. But if you're serious about photography, you'll want to invest in a more expensive camera. Features When choosing a camera, you'll want to consider the features. Some features to look for include: -Image stabilization: This feature helps reduce blurriness in your photos. -Wi-Fi: This feature allows you to transfer photos from your camera to your computer or phone wirelessly. -GPS: This feature allows you to tag your photos with the location where they were taken. -Touchscreen: This feature allows you to control the camera with a touch screen. -Raw image format: This feature allows you to edit your photos in a more advanced way. -4K video: This feature allows you to capture video in 4K quality. Conclusion Choosing the perfect camera for a beginner can be a daunting task. But with a little research, you can find the perfect camera for your needs.

Creating Concepts:
Project 4: Light and Shadow
After experimenting with characterisation of concepts from my last assignment, I was tasked to focus on a more environment-based project. I thought about various settings that could best bring lighting and shading out - space, underwater, woodlands, and so on. Eventually, the one setting I have ended up going with is cityscapes.
Other than its characters, Stray (2022) displayed beautiful depictions of its undercity, adorned with rich neon light all throughout the gameplay. I thought that for this specific topic, portraying a city to contrast light and shadow would really bring out values in my works - and even colour! The opportunities to cast light through various skyscrapers and other city features sound like an overall fun idea to explore rendering with.
To make the most of this idea, I planned to create a city template of 3D modelled buildings in Autodesk Maya software, so I can produce a dynamic camera shot as my composition for this concept. Aside from Stray, I have also looked at the films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023); both films illustrate beautiful compositions of New York City, with its unique asymmetry and play in positive and negative spacing.
Part of Spider-Man unlocked a memory for me regarding a particular game that concerned parkour; it was relatively city-based, but the overall environment of Mirror's Edge (2008) was futuristic and dystopian. Its settings were cluttered with various parkour elements, featuring many buildings with various heights and proximity. This got me thinking: maybe I can also implement a parkour feel to my modelled cityscape. With this, I was able to bring an old character design of mine from years back into this project.
(*Future note: This is a refined version of arrangement - the initial sketch here has been retained. The original file has been redlined by my tutor in the later posts.)
I feel like my character 'Kenz' would be able to push this concept further in providing more of a dynamic in my works. So, I will be treating this project as a composition study which involves elements of both character and environment, as well as 2D and 3D! More to come in my next post, featuring a process of my 3D modelmaking.
