Album Reviews: Asteroid City soundtrack / Deaf Charlie
This week I got to review two new album releases that are polar opposites: a soundtrack compilation and a side project from a music legend:
Asteroid City original soundtrack
Wes Anderson isn’t just one of the most visually stunning directors of the now, he is also a master of concocting a perfect soundtrack album as both a companion piece to the film and a mixtape to evoke the mood of the film, i.e. his 60s-centric rock soundtracks to Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. But he’s also done unique music selection for his films like The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou in which Brazilian musician Seu Jorge covered David Bowie songs. For Anderson’s new film Asteroid City, it’s set in 1955 in a fictional AZ desert town where a cross section of visitors come together in the town for a junior stargazer convention when strange occurrences happen. It is an event movies but as Wes Anderson would make it. To match the time period and locale 16 of the 25 tracks are classic country music from that era including Tex Ritter, Bill Monroe, Burl Ives, Slim Whitman, and more. But there’s also loads of the film score from Alexandre Desplat, a frequent collaborator of Anderson’s who won an Oscar for his score to Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. Also featured on the soundtrack is Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker, another frequent collaborator of Anderson (The Fantastic Mr. Fox and The French Dispatch). In addition to performing some original songs for this film, Cocker also has a small role in the film too.

soundtrack album cover
I got the soundtrack for review before I saw the movie and listened to it on its own. Then I saw the movie (which I included in my Best of 2023 So Far) and listened again. So I had the experience of listening without the context of the film and how the music played, then having that context. The soundtrack is definitely a thorough compilation of that genre and time period, but I have to say I actually liked Desplat’s score the most. On prior soundtracks like Rushmore you get a combination of score and songs, in other situations there’s been a score album and a song compilation album. Here they combined it all, but I liked the score most. Cocker’s songs are good too, albeit nothing like the Britpop he’s known for. It’s hard to live up to the existing classic soundtracks Wes Anderson has done, but I appreciate that he was going for something different here.

Deaf Charlie Catastrophic Metamorphic
One of the cool things I’ve gotten to do here is cover Pearl Jam, both collectively and individually. I have gotten to cover their live performances (read my review of their 2017 concert documentary and live album Let’s Play Two and their 2018 Fenway Park concert review) as well as their excellent 2020 album Gigaton (read my review here). But individually each member has been doing some cool extra-curricular activities in recent years, i.e. Eddie Vedder’s solo albums including last year’s excellent album Earthling (read my review here), Mike McCready’s soundtrack work and his photography (read my book review of his book Of Potato Heads and Polaroids), Stone Gossard’s label Loosegroove Records (who reissued The Living’s album 1982) or Matt Cameron’s solo album Cavedweller (read my review here). Which brings us to PJ bassist and co-founder Jeff Ament. In addition to his solo work including his 2021 album I Should Be Outside (read my review here), he has a new side project Deaf Charlie along with drummer John Wicks, formerly of Fitz and the Tantrums. After releasing a single in 2020, their first album Catastrophic Metamorphic is being released this week.
Tumblr media
album cover
At the age of 60, Ament is already a Seattle music legend. In the mid-80s he and Gossard cut their teeth in Green River (read my review of their Rehab Doll and Dry as a Bone reissues) and then they co-founded Mother Love Bone (read my review of the box set On Earth As It Is - The Complete Works) and after the death of MLB singer Andrew Wood, Ament took part in Temple of the Dog (their 1991 album is one of my all time favorites). So you need to leave all of that at the door and listen to this album on its own and not compare to the legendary works he’s done in the past. Deaf Charlie is very unique, a low-fi burst of energy that teeters on new wave 80s and indie rock. It’s like you’re listening in on two musicians messing around in their home studio, albeit an incredible home recording, and the result is catchy and infectious. As we await a new PJ album (reportedly due in 2024), it’s very cool to see Ament flexing his musical muscle in different ways. Check it out!

Disney+ UK Star Launch: Complete List of New TV Shows and Films
https://ift.tt/2P7STsN
We came for The Mandalorian, stuck around for WandaVision, and, as we wait for The Falcon and Winter Soldier and Loki to arrive, there’s now a huge pile of new catalogue additions to work through, courtesy of Disney Plus’ Star brand.
Star launched on the Disney Plus streaming service in territories outside of the US (where Disney already has a home for adult drama in Hulu) on the 23rd of February. It’s added over 75 TV shows and 280 feature films here in the UK, including the entirety of Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Glee, Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy and Scrubs as well as cult favourites Firefly, Flashforward, Terriers and more. There are also some UK debuts in the form of the Star Originals listed below.
Film-wise, there’s ample reason to go back to the 90s in the form of Arachnophobia, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Con Air and a host of others, plus…well, it’s almost 300 films. Chances are you’ll find something to tickle your fancy. Households with kids should know there are new parental controls to set too, ensuring that nobody gets any unwelcome surprises.
Here’s the complete list of titles so far:
Star Originals
Big Sky
From Mr TV himself, David E. Kelley (Doogie Howser, Chicago Hope, Ally Mcbeal, Big Little Lies) comes a nine-part crime thriller starring Ryan Philippe and Vikings‘ Katheryn Winnick. Based on the 2013 novel The Highway by C.J. Box, Big Sky is the story of a series of missing girls and a private detective/cop trio with a messy personal history who team up to find them. It aired on ABC in the US last winter.
Helstrom
There’s very little fanfare for this comic book show‘s UK debut, which met with mostly negative reviews on release and was cancelled after 10 episodes, but Marvel completists will want to take a look. Tom Austen and Sidney Lemmon play the Helstrom siblings Daimon and Satana, the children of serial killers who hunt down the worst of humanity.
Love, Victor
Another Hulu original making its UK debut, this teen drama spins off from celebrated gay teen 2018 film Love, Simon. It’s narrated by Nick Robinson, who played Simon in the original film, and follows the story of a Puerto-Rican/Colombian-American teen living in Atalanta. Reviews for the 10-part first season were strong and it’s been renewed for a second.
Solar Opposites
Rick and Morty‘s Justin Roiland and Star Trek: Lower Decks‘s Mike McMahan are the creators of this adult animated comedy series about a family of aliens (pictured above) forced to seek refuge in middle America. Season one was enthusiastically received, and a second run is due to air in the US in March. Read plenty more about it here.

Tying the knot in the bliss of nature is the ultimate luxury y’all and let me take you to where it’s just that(and more!).
The Mayfair resorts, located in the best of the best locations across India, is the synonym of classic luxury in the green paradise.
Awe-inspiring locations, upscale living spaces & unmatched services
Properties in the choicest scenic locations
Royal rooms, lavish suites, and private villas
The Mayfair establishments are built on one philosophy, “Stay with us, Stay with nature".  It truly reflects in the property as you show up at one of their fine resorts.
“More than leisure locations, these are the perfect destinations and properties for a wedding fiesta overlooking some killer scenery. “
Mayfair Himalayan Spa Resort, Kalimpong
Let us first serenade about the view. Imagine stepping out and ta..da.. the Himalayas just peaked in from the clouds, there’s a rising scent of ground coffee and the sun grazes the fauna in a distance.
That’s what you see when you churn out of your cosy bed at the Mayfair Himalayan.
“The resort takes you back to the colonial luxe getaway homes, all things vintage and retro, and we are not surprised that it is a favourite of celebrities from around the world with its heritage suites that much sought after.”
What about the wedding venue?
Well, no short of regal venues on this property. Indoor and outdoor venues offer a variety of experiences, each no less in regal grandeur.
The Kanjenjugna indoor hall is the icing on the cake here. With regal wooden panelled walls, delightful lighting and a royal ambience all-together, it’s a lavish space for celebrations from engagements to intimate weddings.
“Outside, a well-manicured expansive lawn spread over 6000 sq.ft with outdoor bonfires(we love it!) fending off the cold in the backdrop of the Himalaya ranges is the perfect summer wedding spot.”
How stunning is the property?
The MAYFAIR Himalayan Spa Resort is stocked with history (did we say it’s a 20th-century hotel), and was the abode of author David Macdonald. We don’t know if we are charmed by the unbelievable view of the Himalayas at sunrise or the decadent printed curtains and vintage regal furniture in the rooms.
Exuding a cozy wintery vibe with floral printed furniture, colourful carpeting and a fireplace(a standard in almost every room), the resort has peculiar elements all across the rooms and a persistent wooden décor is a trademark here.
Our verdict? It’s a creative souls getaway, a perfect wintery wedding spot and a lavish treat for the guests to stay at this vintage marvel.

The property’s celebration hub is the uber cool and state-of-the-art banquet hall named ambitiously “Himalayan Bird”.
“Stylish, spacious and with a dash of colour aesthetically infused from furniture to the thick carpeting, it is the perfect destination for a traditional or vintage ceremony and can accommodate up to 300 people.”
Also how grand is it when banquets halls come with vintage painting and wooden panelled walls!
Tumblr media
Mayfair Lagoon Resort, Bhubaneswar
Odhisha’s luxury 5 star destination is the Mayfair Lagoon, as the name says rising from the winding lagoons in central Odisha.

Engagement soirees to wedding festivities happen here

“The highlight of the venues here is the outdoor ones, a delightful arena of celebrations in lush greenery. The Mandap, Vatika and Gazebo are a selection of venues for all celebrations, be it evening party, haldi, or the wedding itself, offering alfresco dining options.”
You needn’t go tropical when you have the beaming greenery and coconut groves next to the gleaming lagoon at the Mayfair.
Tumblr media
MAYFAIR Spa Resort and Casino, Gangtok
Winding down the serene and enticing beauty of the Teesta, along its banks stand the Mayfair Spa Resort and casino.
What’s your pick?
This Himalayan paradise has a quirk for everyone.
“Whether you like the calm and blissful view of the Teesta with the Buddhist chants in the backdrop or a cultural indulgence in the land of the prayer flags or to go all out and try your luck at the casino table, Mayfair Spa Resort and Casino, Gangtok have you covered.”
We love the irresistible location of the Mayfair and if you are planning your wedding, it’s a location to seriously mark on your charts.
Tumblr media
Packing the glamour for a Luxe wedding

The staff at the property are more than obliged to help you with the decor and picking the cuisines for that luxury wedding you have in mind.

Wes Anderson's Movies, Ranked By Rotten Tomatoes | ScreenRant
Wes Anderson has one of the most distinctive voices in cinema today. It can be described (or even dismissed) as “quirky,” but it’s more than that. He has a strong grasp of symmetry when composing his scenes and framing his shots; he casts Bill Murray in even weirder roles than he usually plays; and he makes movies that, however strange-looking, focus on very real human relationships and how we handle various different emotions.
RELATED: Wes Anderson’s 10 Most Memorable Characters
Most of Anderson’s movies are acclaimed by critics, but some have been more universally adored than others. So, here are Wes Anderson’s Movies, Ranked By Rotten Tomatoes.
9 The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (56%)
Tumblr media
Drawn from a screenplay written by Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou has a pretty large budget for an Anderson movie ($50 million), but it’s no less quirky. This is probably the reason for the fact that the movie failed at the box office. For any fan of Anderson’s, it’s business as usual.
Bill Murray stars as Steve Zissou, a parody of the famous French explorer Jacques Cousteau, as he heads out into the deep sea to get revenge against the jaguar shark that ate his partner. It’s a Wes Anderson-helmed take on a Moby Dick-type story.
8 The Darjeeling Limited (69%)
Tumblr media
The Darjeeling Limited is easily Wes Anderson’s most underrated movie. This is probably due to its critical reception being weaker than most of his others. But it’s actually a very interesting movie, with some entertaining set pieces and character moments.
It has a simplistic premise, following three brothers on a train journey across India, but what the lack of real plot opens the movie up to do is explore the relationship between these brothers. It also gives the cinematographer, Robert Yeoman (Anderson’s long-time go-to guy), plenty of room to capture the beauty of India. The Darjeeling Limited is a road movie on one of the most spectacular roads in the world.
7 The Royal Tenenbaums (80%)
Tumblr media
Arguably the movie that defines Wes Anderson’s career, The Royal Tenenbaums is the powerful story of a dysfunctional family; sort of like a Noah Baumbach movie with extra quirk. The ensemble cast – from Gene Hackman as the patriarch to Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow – is impeccable, anchored by voiceover narration by Alec Baldwin.
RELATED: 10 Quirky Comedies To Watch If You Like The Big Lebowski
With its curiously inventive structure and compelling character dynamic, this may be Wes Anderson’s greatest script (co-written with Owen Wilson), while the use of music creates poignant moments like Luke Wilson’s attempted suicide scene set to Elliott Smith’s “Needle in the Hay.” The Royal Tenenbaums walks a tonal tightrope between comedy and tragedy deftly.
6 Bottle Rocket (85%)
Tumblr media
Wes Anderson’s directorial debut Bottle Rocket wasn’t a huge hit at the box office, but it was praised by critics enough to launch his career, and Martin Scorsese would eventually call it one of his favorite movies of the ‘90s. It also launched the career of Owen Wilson, who co-wrote the script with Anderson and also made his film debut acting in it.
The crime genre and the comedy genre have rarely been balanced this well – Anderson takes joy in the simple interactions that people have, bringing a human element to a wild premise. Rotten Tomatoes calls it “Reservoir Dogs meets Breathless.”
5 Rushmore (89%)
Tumblr media
Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson’s script for Rushmore is a fascinating three-hander focusing on the relationships shared by a disparate trio. Jason Schwartzman (in his debut role) plays Max, a quirky teenager; Bill Murray plays Herman, a wealthy industrialist; and Olivia Williams plays Rosemary, Max’s teacher.
The story becomes about a love triangle when Max and Herman both fall in love with Rosemary. As it turns out, she’s not interested in either of them and dates a doctor played by Luke Wilson instead, driving them both crazy with jealousy. Rushmore is so culturally significant, capturing a piece of the ‘90s, that it’s been preserved in the Library of Congress.
4 Isle of Dogs (90%)
Tumblr media
Wes Anderson returned to his distinctive style of stop-motion animation last year to helm this unusual tale set in a dystopian Japan in the near future. While the movie was accused of cultural appropriation for its use of Japanese imagery and a mostly white cast, there’s no denying that this is a gorgeous work of big-screen animation.
It might not quite stack up with the rest of Anderson’s filmography, but it is an interesting addition to his overall body of work. Isle of Dogs was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, but it was beaten to the prize by the admittedly superior Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
3 The Grand Budapest Hotel (91%)
Tumblr media
Wes Anderson was nominated for both Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars for The Grand Budapest Hotel. The framing narrative sees Jude Law playing a writer who is documenting the wacky escapades of the staff and guests at the hotel, but it’s clear that Ralph Fiennes is the star here.
He plays Gustave H., the concierge, and the actor’s deadpan delivery style makes sure every line is laugh-out-loud hilarious. Tony Revolori (now best known for playing Flash in the MCU’s Spider-Man movies) also provides excellent support as his young sidekick, the lobby boy Zero. The Grand Budapest Hotel is quite possibly Anderson’s funniest movie.
2 Fantastic Mr. Fox (92%)
Tumblr media
In a dream casting akin to Quentin Tarantino getting Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in the same movie, Wes Anderson managed to pair up George Clooney and Meryl Streep in his animated adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl book Fantastic Mr. Fox.
RELATED: George Clooney's 10 Best Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes
While it wasn’t as big a box office hit as a live-action movie starring Clooney and Streep would’ve been (or even an animated movie with a less quirky and more digestible style of animation), it was showered with praise by critics, and rightly so. The movie is as delightful and heartwarming and filled with starry-eyed innocence as its source material.
1 Moonrise Kingdom (93%)
Tumblr media
This coming-of-age tale about kids attending a scouting camp does something interesting that few on-screen love stories do. It tells the parallel stories of a pair of bright-eyes tweens falling in love and an old married couple falling out of love, tackling the full spectrum of romance in a way that few romantic movies manage to do.
Anderson’s trademark use of symmetry in his cinematic composition is on point here, and his personal stamp can be spotted in every scene, line of dialogue, and character moment. This is the work of a filmmaker at the height of his powers, for better or for worse.

Bangalore Famous Foods | Explore a Few of the Best Food Stalls in Bangalore
The key to the city's soul is its streets. And that goes true when it comes to the best food of the land as well. You can find even the richest folk coming to savour the delicious food available at the food stalls in Bangalore. Which is why, we bring to you a definitive list to the best food stalls in Bangalore!
Bangalore’s claim to fame is not just its IT companies and great weather. The city is home to several cultures from around the world. These glimmerings of mixed cultures come through in the food that Bangalore is known for. Just take a walk along its streets to sample some of these delightful delicacies. The best part? They are easy on the wallet!
1.Food Street, VV Puram, Bangalore
Vegetarians, delight! For here is an entire street dedicated to gastronomical adventures of the vegetarian kind. From one end of this short street to the other, you can expect to find different varieties of well cooked, high quality street food that is popular in different parts of Karnataka, as well as some popular chaat items from other parts of the country.
This street is located in Basavangudi and pretty easy to find on Google Maps. You can park your vehicle in the allotted neighbouring lane and then make your way down this street on foot, sampling different items as you move along. The food street is open from 5PM to 8PM and is typically filled with students and families who come here to enjoy the different offerings.
Here are some of our top picks from Food Street:
Tumblr media
Holige and Obbattu at Idli Mane: These roti like piping hot food items come stuffed with dal or coconut or plain. Have these plain or with a splash of ghee to understand why they are savoured here.
Rabri custard at Mumbai Lassi Center: If you are thirsty after your meal, come find the Mumbai Lassi Center where you can enjoy several types of lassi, rose milk, etc. We also recommend the rabri custard to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Crispy Jalebi at Arya Vyas Refreshment: Here’s a place where you can find delicious syrup filled jalebi and delicious curd kodubale. It’s been around for the past 75 years and is definitely a stop you cannot miss on this street.
Rasgulla chaat at Dev Sagar: Come for some good old fashioned north Indian chaats at Dev Sagar. The rasgulla chaat here is made from unsweetened rasgulla mixed with chaat masalas and is a must try.
Gobi manchurian roll at Sri Subramanya Chinese Fast Food: Let the name not put you off; here you can sample some of the best Indo-Chinese street food in Bangalore. There are different types of Chinese chaats available here and the gobi manchurian stuffed roll is a popular dish here.
Capsicum Bhajji at Bhajji Stall: Try the banana bhajji or the chilli bhajji and the ever popular capsicum bhajji right here at this land of bhajjis. Constantly being fried and dished out, you can get them hot and fresh right here.
2. Fanoos, Richmond Town
If you crave the best non vegetarian rolls in town, make your way to Johnson Market in Richmond Town. Fanoos has been around for decades and is especially known for its beef kebab and rolls. Fanoos has always been a late night destination for party goers who are looking to quickly satisfy their hunger cravings.
We really loved the beef seekh jumbo rolls here, which come wrapped in roomali roti and are cooked to perfection. We highly recommend that you wash down your roll with the pulpy Arabian grape juice, which you can obtain from the nearby Madeena Stores overlooking Fanoos.
3. Khan Saheb’s Grills and Rolls, Indiranagar
While we are on the topic of rolls, let’s move on to Khan Saheb’s. One of the oldest running establishments in Bangalore, Khan Saheb prepares juicy rolls that literally dribble down your chin as you bite into them. This is not your run of the mill kathi roll. The rolls here are by Khan Saheb’s own admission, similar to the ones grilled by Afghani troops, back in the day.
You can choose between different sizes of the rolls and even opt to have the roti made with egg or not. Khan Saheb’s rolls are great whether you opt in for the vegetarian or non vegetarian options. Among the vegetarian rolls, we highly recommend the baby corn tikka roll. You can have this wrapped in rumali roti and enjoy it piping hot. Among the non vegetarian options, we loved the mutton seekh roll here. Besides rolls, Khan Saheb also serves some delicious chicken tikka which you must try.
4. New Prashanth Hotels, Jayanagar
The street food of a city should be reminiscent of what the city itself stands for. That is exactly why you should visit New Prashanth Hotels. The naati style cooking here is authentic and delicious, making a person realise the charming side of Karnataka cuisine. If you don’t have Kannadiga friends who will invite you over for a home cooked meal, then New Prashanth Hotels in Jayanagar is the place you can get your fill.
Try the ragi balls here with mutton chops. This is a typical food eaten traditionally in non vegetarian Karnataka homes. The ragi balls, or ragi mudde as they are called, are soft and melt in your mouth along with the delicious mutton chops. Have some naati chicken fry along with your meal and your tummy will thank you!
5. Darjeeling Hot Momos, Koramangala
Momos are little clouds of heaven, gifted to us by the North Eastern states of India. Filled with chicken, paneer, etc, these delicious hot momos are iconic in Bangalore, especially at Darjeeling Hot Momos. If you are a fan of momos, you should make a beeline here and try out the steamed or fried variants of their momos. In fact, you also get cheesy momos, all of which are served with the trademark spicy chutney.
While hot momos is what Darjeeling Hot Momos is known for, that is not all that they have on the menu. You can also pick their egg fried rice to go as a main meal with the momos as a starter. Try the noodles here as well.
6. Savoury Restaurant, Mosque Road
Shawarmas are a delicious Middle Eastern roll that are best eaten when prepared at a side street restaurant. If you want to try the best shawarma in Bangalore, we absolutely recommend the shawarma rolls at Savoury Restaurant on Mosque Road. Prepared right in front of your hungry eyes, these shawarma rolls are made from sliced meat that is mixed with plenty of locally made creamy paste or hummus. They are served along with vinegar soaked pickles for the ultimate treat.
If you have a preference for a proper meal, you can have the open shawarma, which is served with just the meat and loads of hummus, outside of a roll. This makes for an even more delicious dish that feels like a complete meal on its own.
7. Kota Kachori, Koramangala
Kota Kachori is one of the most popular joints in Bangalore for all sorts of Rajasthani snack items. The food items on offer here are all authentic in terms of their flavour and are also low cost. We highly recommend that you try the alu pyaz kachori here along with the lassi. Among their other offerings are also other popular namkeen items like samosa, kichadi and falahari.
One of our favourite items was also the kota kachori, which is stuffed with urad dal and spices to make a crispy and delicious snack. The kachoris are served along with tamarind chutney. You can also try their sweet mango kalakand and the malai ghewar as dessert options here.
8. Corner House Ice Cream, Indiranagar
We didn’t want to fill up this street food list with only proper meal items. Where there is street food, there is undeniably going to be some ice cream on the menu as well! And it doesn’t get more real than Bangalore’s iconic Corner House Ice Cream with its outlets all over Bangalore. Corner House has been around for more than 30 years and certainly does not seem to be reducing in popularity even though several other ice cream joints have come up in Bangalore over the past couple of years.
The most popular sundae here is easily the Death By Chocolate. True to its name, this sundae is a chocolate lover’s dream. It consists of a layer of chocolate brownie, covered with chocolate ice cream,  drizzled with chocolate sauce and finally covered with nuts. The end result is a meal all on its own! You can also try their other ice cream flavours and shakes to understand just why this ice cream joint is all the rage in Bangalore.
9. Hari Super Sandwich, Jayanagar
Sandwiches are the ultimate street food that any Mumbaikar would be familiar with. Here in Bangalore, we have local sandwich centres, too! One such low budget sandwich joint is located at Jayanagar and is pretty popular with the locals. Hari Super Sandwich has film stars who come to eat here, along with common folks to devour the delicious tawa fried sandwiches.
As is done in the Mumbai sandwich stalls, here too the bread is tawa fried and layered with plenty of butter and cheese. Choose to have their American Sweet Corn sandwich, which is filled with capsicums, tomatoes, cheese and corn. For those who like unusual sandwiches, there is the chocolate sandwich, a chocolate bar and a slice of amul cheese served on freshly fried bread. This stall also has chaat options in case you are still hungry after eating your fully loaded sandwiches.
10. Food Street, Mosque Road, Frazer Town
Like its vegetarian cousin over in V V Puram, food street on Mosque Road dedicates itself to a whole street filled with non vegetarian food stalls. These food stalls offer a wide variety of different types of delicious non vegetarian foods, especially during Ramzan. You can expect to find mutton or cheese filled samosas, pathar ghost, and seekh kebabs, to name just a few.
Our favourite food items on mosque road have traditionally been the kheema paratha, which is basically a square sandwich sized tawa fried keema filled paratha. The end result is crispy and delicious, especially if you eat it while it is hot. There is also the chicken kadai ghosh, which might go by different names depending on where you eat it. This delicious chicken on a stick snack is a flat, fried batter covered chicken offering that is absolutely scrumptious. For those who are craving Hyderabadi haleem, well Mosque Road does not disappoint! You can get hot, savoury Hyderabadi haleem that tastes just like the one you loved eating in Hyderabad. Made with chicken or mutton, ghee, and dry fruits. This dish is best eaten with rumali roti.
In Conclusion
Bangalore is known for its prestigious pubs and restaurants, but you cannot beat the street food on offer here. From fabulous sheekh rolls to amazing chaats and momos, there is something for everyone on the streets of Bangalore. Besides these foods, there are also plenty of paani puri wallas that line the streets of Bangalore. These are the perfect place to quickly fill up your stomach with ten jeera water filled puris or more.
Try out some of these amazing food stalls on your day out in Bangalore city. The options available here are diverse, giving you a real feel for the city you call home. What’s more, the food options at these stalls are always pocket friendly, making them a great place to go to when you are broke at the end of the month and waiting for salary to be credited!

The Top 5 Hollywood Films Shot in Rajasthan
No one can deny the mysticism and the magical appeal of Rajasthan. The extravagance of palaces carrying the aesthetics of the mid-ancient architecture, the towering forts that witnessed more battles and victories than one can remember, the limitless sand dunes where many caravans tread and more so the alluring and intriguing tales that invoke a sharp curiosity and inspire amuse; all this has been a part of the indefinitely rich culture of the Indian state Rajasthan. And you know what? Hollywood agrees too! Not just Hollywood, in fact, even Australian and European filmmakers have paid homage to this exotic and vibrant Indian state through their films!
Here are 5 well-known films from the West that were filmed in our very regal and enticing Rajasthan:
The Darjeeling Limited
The Darjeeling Limited is a story about three brothers who take a spiritual trip through India. Wes Anderson, the movie director, said that he was inspired by Satyajit Ray and several other documentaries on India that shaped this movie. During an interview, he also said that he fell in love with Rajasthan and hence ended up shooting most of the portions in the moving train through the state. This 2007 comedy-drama features an eclectic mix of actors including Irrfan Khan in a cameo role. The movie was shot primarily in Jodhpur. The Himalaya scenes, however, were beautifully shot, but can you guess where? Udaipur!
The Dark Knight Rises
We reckon that there isn’t any Batman fan that doesn’t love Christopher Nolan’s take on the masked vigilante of Gotham. In fact, I reckon there isn’t anyone who doesn’t love the Dark Knight trilogy! The epic finale to the Batman trilogy that was The Dark Knight Rises, has several scenes, especially the scenes revolving around the prison pit, that were filmed in Jodhpur. Where in Jodhpur, you may ask? Mehrangarh Fort, and since then the fort has made its mark on the global filming map. Apparently, Christopher Nolan and his team went bonkers shooting in the 120°F (almost 49°C) heat, but boy was it worth it!
Octopussy
All the James Bond fans (especially Indians) can recall the 1983 production, Octopussy. A major portion of the film was shot in Rajasthan as Bond chases Kamal Khan to his palace. Many of the scenes were shot in Udaipur at The Monsoon Palace, Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, as well as Shiv Niwas Palace. And, it makes sense; Udaipur fits the bill as a picture-perfect setting for the celluloid! And guess what, it even had James Bond travelling in an auto-rickshaw in the by lanes of the Lake City. Now that’s wicked!
Also, a note of appreciation for Kabir Bedi; didn’t he absolutely kill it playing the role of Gobinda?
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is based on the novel These Foolish Things and it was shot extensively in Jaipur and Udaipur at locations such as City Palace, Kanota Fort, Tripolia Bazar, and the step-well near Amer Fort. The movie also had many scenes that reflected upon the serene views of Lake Pichola and the Lake Palace Hotel in the background. And I must say the shots in the movie are beautiful! The famous movie starred Dev Patel, Judi Dench, Tena Desai, and others with the hotel Ravla Khempur- a heritage hotel in Khempur Village as its focal point. With quite the cast, quite the story, quite the shooting site; we are now in quite the hurry to watch it again!
Holy Smoke
The Kate Winslet starrer Australian drama, Holy Smoke, was filmed in 1999 which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. The movie revolved around the spiritual awakening which happens on a trip to India. The team spent six days of filming in Pushkar, and several other scenes were shot in Delhi. It is extremely intriguing how filmmakers can find perspective out of something that seems to puzzle more than anything! Worth a watch? Absolutely!
Go ahead and revisit all of these five films; you will be left delighted! Also, do keep trying to spot each of the scenes that were shot in Rajasthan and flaunt this knowledge among your friends and family!
Now that you know your favourite movie stars have spent their time shooting in these places; wouldn’t it be fun to go live and experience these places for real!
