NOLADrinks Show – Bourbon in lieu of Bourbon Fest – Mar20Ep2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please note – The featured interview was recorded on March 12 as they coronavirus crisis was emerging and in the wake on the postponement of the New Orleans Bourbon Festival.
On this edition of The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we’re doing a show on bourbon in the wake of The New Orleans Bourbon Festival being postponed due to the coronavirus crisis. We’re joined by the festival’s executive director, Tracy Napolitano, and Heaven Hill global ambassador, Bernie Lubbers.
NOLADrinks Show – Bourbon in lieu of Bourbon Fest – Mar20Ep2
We start things off letting you know about this week’s show and that, as of the time of taping, there was no update on the reschedule of Bourbon Fest (at the time of this podcast and writing, there is still not one – stay tuned.)
Next, we’re off to one of our favorite spots in New Orleans – Barrel Proof in the Lower Garden District – for our featured interview. Please note – we were planning on 2-3 shows or so to be taped at the postponed New Orleans Bourbon Fest and we hope to bring those shows to you when the event is rescheduled and happens!
Nonetheless, we put together a sort of “ad-hoc” show and are graciously joined by by the festival’s executive director, Tracy Napolitano, and Heaven Hill global ambassador, Bernie Lubbers. The latter was in town already, at the time of postponement.
Tumblr media
Part of the spirit of the show was to let you know about the fest, where things stood with updates, and, simply, to sip on some whiskey and talk about it! So, that’s what we do!
Aside from tasting through some tasty selections, we talk about the whiskey landscape in the US, understanding the big production houses versus the numerous craft producers that have sprung up in recent years, and several connected aspects.
Both Tracy and Bernie stick around for our podcast-only segment – “Another Shot with NOLADrinks” – where we continue the conversation and sip through a bit more.
Thanks to our friends at Barrel Proof for hosting us. You can see their location on the map below and please support them as soon as they re-open! You can subscribe to, stream, and download The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias podcast using the links and player at the top of the post.
Cheers and Be Safe, You All!

Trump is going to burn so much international political capital in order to look “tough on socialism” in the face of Bernie Sanders being his likely 2020 election opponent. It undermines itself, too, since it strains US coordination with Europe and Canada to overthrow Maduro in Venezuela.
The 1996 act gave Americans the right to sue the mostly European companies that operate out of hotels, tobacco factories, distilleries and other properties that Cuba nationalized after Fidel Castro took power. The act even allows lawsuits by Cubans who became U.S. citizens years after their properties were taken.
Canada, France, Spain, Great Britain and other countries with large investments in Cuba have ferociously protested the law and threatened to sue in the World Trade Organization if Washington tries to interfere with the business ties between Cuba and another sovereign nation.
“The extraterritorial application of the U.S. embargo is illegal and violates international law,” said Alberto Navarro, the European Union ambassador to Cuba. “I personally consider it immoral. For 60 years the only thing that’s resulted from the embargo is the suffering of the Cuban people.”
U.S. airlines and cruise lines that bring hundreds of thousands of travelers to Cuba each year appear to be exempt from the key provision of the Helms-Burton Act.
Every U.S. president since Bill Clinton has suspended the key clause to avoid those trade clashes and a potential mass of lawsuits that would prevent any future settlement with Cuba over nationalized properties. Cuba has said it is willing to reimburse the owners of confiscated properties, but only if the communist government is also reimbursed for billions of dollars in damages generated by the six-decade U.S. trade embargo.
The announcement comes at a moment of severe economic weakness for Cuba, which is struggling to find enough cash to import basic food and other supplies following a drop in aid from Venezuela, and a string of bad years in other key economic sectors.
Foreign investment in Cuba increased slightly in recent years, but it remains far below the levels needed to recapitalize the island’s dilapidated, often collapsing infrastructure. The Trump administration’s decision is not expected to drive out major foreign players like Pernod-Ricard of France, which makes Havana Club rum, or Spanish hotel chains Melia or Iberostar, but it could prove a major obstacle to new investment from foreign companies.
“It will harm prospective investment in Cuba. It will not cause people who are invested in Cuba already to pull out now,” said Phil Peters, director of the Arlington, Virginia-based Cuba Research Center, who advocated for closer relations with Cuba and has consulted for U.S. companies looking to invest.
Peters said he also believed the new measure could hurt the Trump administration’s effort to force Maduro from power with help from allies like Spain.
“There are plenty of countries that are interested in helping Venezuela find a soft landing after Maduro, but they are not interested in waging an economic war on Cuba,” Peters said.
The U.S. official said the administration also plans to start enforcing the section of the act that allows the U.S. to deny entry visas to Cubans and citizens of other countries involved in trafficking in the confiscated property.

Toronto, Thursday July 25
Tumblr media
After an early morning alarm at 3am - an amber alert from the RCMP about a missing kid they send to everyone’s mobiles, not sure how we could help, it turned out a very nice day in Toronto, 29oC but the air had a cool tinge with a soft breeze. We meet up with Rose, Hugo and Norah early, with Aaron off to work. We caught the subway from St George Subway station and headed west to High Park. This is a lovely, large area of mostly natural forest and a lake made by glaciers 10 000 years ago. Other than the vegetation and climate it’s an area similar to Centenary Park in Sydney.
On arrival we seemed to walk a long way, my Garmin Fenix watch registering 10000 steps very quickly with Rose setting a brisk pace while carrying a large backpack and Miss Norah. We checked out the lake, ducks and geese, a nice large garden shaped like a giant maple leaf for some reason, then we headed for we a snack at the park cafe. Hugo and Norah enjoyed a scoop of ice cream - Hugo vanilla and Norah strawberry. With amazingly quick eyes, and while distracted devouring the ice cream Hugo, spotted a chipmunk, so we were excited to notch-up the sighting of what seems to be a funny little creature.
We then walked through a zoo area seeing bison, goats, cattle and believe it or not - emus. Also apparently wallabies, but they seemed as shy as the footy team and we didn’t get to see the Canadian variant. After another long walk Norah told us, in her Norah kind of way, that she wanted to go home so it was back to the subway and back to St George station. This is when Bernie and I ditched Rose and the grandkids to go on the red double decker bus tour of Toronto.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was an informative venture seeing lots of sights with my favourite stop being the St Lawrence markets. I’d love to live near these. The food stalls were amazing with a lot of irrestible delights. The hams looked superb and Bernie on spotting the oyster variants, had to have a snack of half a dozen fresh oysters which she smashed in record time (I got one). Then we walked to the Corkville distillery, a historic area with interesting shops where we had a nice stop in a cafe pictured below, and I learned that a long black here is called an Americana.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then caught the red double decker again and drove past Toronto’s castle called the Casa Loma ($72 million in today’s money), which looks like a castle but started of as the house of the guy who owned Canada’s electricity till it was nationalised. An amazing house. We also saw the ‘Daily Star’ newspaper offices, which become the ‘Daily Planet’ in the superman series. Canadians seem much like NZers in that they like to let all know of all their famous people at any chance.
Early today Bernie had spied a small Italian restaurant barely noticeable next to our hotel called the Mercurio. She told me that’s where we were having dinner. Anyway inside it turned out to be quite amazing. We had most delicious meal my favourite dish being the Calamari Fritti Piccani and we both having what can only be described as the best Creme Brûlée outside Itially, but probably including Italy.

Below is a picture taken after we all accused each other following a skunk sighting.

Hellyer's Road 12 year old Tasmanian single malt whisky
Hellyer’s Road 12 year old Tasmanian single malt whisky
Tumblr media
The story of the Hellyer’s Road distillery starts near an Australian town called Bernie, which is near the northwest coast of Tasmania. In 1827 Henry Hellyer cleared bushland near Bernie to create a trail which later became a road. In 1999 a group of dairy farmers established a whisky distillery on that road, and they fittingly called this distillery “Hellyer’s Road”.
Now, in 2020,…

11 Things You Should Know About Heaven Hill Distillery
Tumblr media
Heaven Hill Distillery, founded by the Shapira family in Bardstown, Ky., in 1935, is the largest family-owned and operated distillery in the U.S. It’s also the second-largest bourbon distillery in the world, and one of the country’s largest spirits suppliers.
Ready for a taste of whiskey history? Here are 11 more things you should know about Heaven Hill Distillery.
Heaven Hill began as a post-Prohibition proposition.
After Prohibition ended in 1933, Ed Shapira, a successful businessman and department store owner in New Haven, Ky., invested in a fledgling distillery looking to bring whiskey back to Kentucky. Ed Shapira’s five sons eventually bought out the distillery’s other investors, becoming the sole owners. One of these sons, Max Shapira, is the company president today.
You might know Heaven Hill by its other names.
Heaven Hill is famous in its own right, but you may know it better by its flagship bourbon labels, Evan Williams and Elijah Craig. Both have been produced since the 1930s. The distillery also produces the eponymous Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond, along with many other brands it either created or acquired: Larceny, Rittenhouse Rye, Henry McKenna Single Barrel, Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey, Pikesville Rye, Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond, and Mellow Corn.
Until 2019, Heaven Hill’s distillers had ‘the most famous name in bourbon.’
Heaven Hill has had several members of the Beam family at its still. Most recently was the late Parker Beam, who started with the company in 1960, served as master distiller starting in 1975, and became master distiller emeritus in 2014, after falling ill.
Parker Beam was the son of Earl Beam, grandson of Park Beam, and grandnephew of Jim Beam. Bill Samuels Jr., friend of Parker and former Maker’s Mark executive, said he “lived up to and exceeded the burden of having the most famous name in bourbon.”
In 2019, Heaven Hill appointed Conor O’Driscoll master distiller. Though not a Beam, O’Driscoll is an industry vet, having worked in Kentucky bourbon for 15 years.
Heaven Hill is a young 84.
Despite being born in 1935, Heaven Hill keeps up with the times online. The distillery has its own podcast, “Tales from the Hill,” which delivers insights into the distillery’s heritage. And in March 2019, Heaven Hill brand ambassador Bernie Lubbers hosted a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), devoting two hours to the online forum.
It’s had a few facelifts.
In 2018, Heaven Hill announced a major expansion and renovation — to the tune of $65 million — including $17.5 million toward a rebranding of the Bourbon Heritage Center, a stop on the official Kentucky Bourbon Trail offering tastings and a museum describing the region’s bourbon history. The rest went to new barrel warehousing and equipment upgrades. In total, the distillery has invested more than $100 million in expansions and tourism since 2010, according to the Spirits Business.
It wants you to visit.
Along with the recent renovations to the Bourbon Heritage Center in Bardstown, Heaven Hill also hosts the annual Kentucky Bourbon Festival in September. Additionally, visitors can swing by the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in Louisville any time of year. That tour is led by Heaven Hill Artisanal Distiller and 38-year employee Jodie Filiatreau.
Heaven Hill has more rickhouses than America has states.
Heaven Hill is headquartered in Bardstown, Ky. It also operates several facilities in the area, each with its own set of rickhouses, or barrel warehouses. There are currently 51 rickhouses and counting: 22 in Bardstown, nine each in Deatsville and Schenley, seven in Bernheim, and four in Glencoe. In total, the 51 rickhouses hold 1,173,000 barrels.
But wait — there’s more. Heaven Hill is currently developing another campus in Cox’s Creek, Ky., “to allow for future expansion,” the company writes on its website. That campus will hold 11 rickhouses with the capacity to hold 605,000 additional barrels.
Heaven Hill offered the ultimate ‘angel’s share.’
On Nov. 7, 1996, a disastrous fire ravaged Heaven Hill’s Bardstown plant. “Flames could be seen shooting 300 to 400 feet into the air from over 20 miles away as the alcohol burned and barrels exploded,” Distillery Trail reports. The flames jumped from warehouse to warehouse, eventually engulfing seven, as well as the distillery. In four hours, more than 90,000 barrels of bourbon were lost. Amazingly, no one was hurt.
It makes smart investments.
In 1999, Heaven Hill acquired several spirits brands from beverage giant Diageo, including Deep Eddy Vodka, Hpnotiq Liqueur, O’Mara’s Irish Country Cream, and many others. As part of the same deal, it also acquired its Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, now the world’s largest single-site bourbon distillery.
Heaven Hill has always been the ‘best.’
The distillery has won dozens of awards, including 30 Best Whiskey wins, 14 Whiskey of the Year awards, seven Distiller of the Year awards, and 42 double gold medals. At the 2019 SF World Spirits Competition, Heaven Hill left with the titles for Distillery of the Year, Best Bourbon, and Best in Show Whisky. It’s the only distillery to win Best in Show Whisky with bourbon.
When Heaven Hill released its first label in 1939, Old Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond, it was the best-selling whiskey in the state of Kentucky.
Heaven Hill is part of two Bourbon Counties, in Kentucky and Illinois.
In 2015, Heaven Hill partnered with Chicago brewery Goose Island on a rare variant of the brewery’s Bourbon County Brand Stout. The special-release beers, sold annually starting on Black Friday, are known for kicking off the bourbon-barrel-aged beer trend.
The companies partnered again in 2018, when Goose Island’s Reserve Bourbon County Stout was aged in Heaven Hill barrels. In 2019, the bourbon barrels grace three different releases: Reserve Rye Bourbon County Stout, aged exclusively in Rittenhouse Rye barrels; Bourbon County Wheatwine Ale, aged in Larceny barrels; and the classic Bourbon County Stout, aged in Heaven Hill as well as Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey barrels.
“Bourbon and beer is a partnership that makes sense,” Conor O’Driscoll, Heaven Hill master distiller, said in a press release.

2017 Retired Guys Whiskey Tour - Quest for Michael Flood
T-1 days until we launch our third Retired Guys summer road trip.  The car has completed its pre-launch oil change and tire rotation.   Having reached 280,000 miles we are starting to baby the Volvo just a little, trying to avoid those nasty break-downs in remote locations (like the Sioux Nation in 2015)
Why Michael Flood?  First of all you should know that Michael Flood and Agnes Anderson are my great-parents (on my mother’s mother’s side) who grew up north of London in London Township.  We recently learned that Michael and Agnes moved to rural Manitoba for a few years in the 1890′s.   I believe some family members were already aware of this but it was a surprise to Bob and me.  We hope to learn more about Michael and Agnes on our trip.
We did know that Michael and Agnes’ daughter Gertrude Flood married a fellow named Tom McNulty and immediately homesteaded in Saskatchewan (in the early 20th century).   Since Saskatchewan is so close to Manitoba we are also going to visit Nokomis, SK
And finally, cousin Bernie and his wife Kathleen are both celebrating their retirement with a party in early August.   And since Alberta is so close to Saskatchewan we are also going to venture a little further west to join that celebration.
What’s new in 2017?
We have a full spare tire, in addition to the donut spare.  Its a little bulky in the back of the vehicle but it gives us peace of mind.
Sadly we will not be meeting up with brother Tom along the way this year.   To compensate we are spending the first two nights of the journey at Tom and Anne Marie’s home
What’s the same from 2016?
We will be listening an audio book again on our journey.  This year we are gone for 15 days so we are enjoying Dubliners - 15 Short Stories by James Joyce.  (We’re hoping this is better than Gulliver’s Travels from 2016)
We are bringing the portable grill again.   Recall that Bob is a cheapskate that likes to eat out of his cooler.   You can only eat so many ham sandwiches - so a grill gives us some options.
We added a Major League baseball game (in Cleveland) to last year’s trip and this year we’re going to take in the Tigers in Detroit.
One of the best parts of the journey is staying with friends and family along the way.   For 2017 we have 7 nights guest lodging lined up with some nice people, and are looking forward to enjoying some nice hospitality.
We’ve heard from cousin Ted Merrifield (one of our genealogists) that Michael Flood was known to enjoy a drink or two.   To honour Michael we will be stopping at as many distilleries as we pass in order to collect a set of whiskeys for our after-trip whiskey tasting.

Day 13.   Whisky Tour - Coming soon to North Dakota:  The Internet.
The retired guys put a lot of miles / kilometers behind today heading eastbound across the western states on Highway 2.   We had the opportunity to go through the family archives along the way.   By the end of the day we had gone from Montana to Wisconsin.
So what do you do when you’re driving 10 hours a day across highway #2 in Montana and North Dakota?    We had lots of time for introspection, reviewing the trip-to-date, figuring out who owes whom what money, and keeping track of what we have learned about our great-grandparents.  And James Joyce, NPR and the CBC kept us company along the way.
We started the morning just inside the North Dakota border from Montana and we were hoping to get as far as Wisconsin.   That kind of progress would give us time for a distillery visit or two in the coming days.   In a moment of brilliance we decided to go through the file folder Bob brought from our parents’ house.   We found files on the McIntryes, Floods, Andersons, Peirces, and Bairnes and were able to make a first pass through these files along the drive.   There were facts and figures, a few stories, and we found photos.
One photo we found was of Michael Flood and Agnes Anderson, and we have to assume it was taken in front of their house on Rectory Street, in front of the Western Fair Grounds.   The photo was actually a photocopy of a photo - so we are thinking we must have relatives that can show even more pictures.   Brian?  Ted?  One or the Williams clan?   There is follow-up to be done after the trip.
It was good to have Dubliners along for the ride today - we heard Ivy Day in the Committee Room and A Mother.   Ivy Day has to do with some political campaign workers who are hiding from the Dublin rain in warmth and dryness of the “committee room”.   People are coming and going from the room and we hear the political discussion - and there are loads of references to Irish Nationalism and Charles Parnell.  Our dad had Irish nationalist sympathies and loved anything Irish - if he hadn’t read this short story we know he would have loved it. (And he would have been singing Whisky in the Jar with Bernie). Meanwhile, Story 13 - A Mother shows us a woman who has provided an upscale education to her daughter and is now promoting her socially by having her perform as a pianist in a concert that has been put on by local promoters.  Other performers in the concert are only so-so and the promoters are having trouble filling seats for four nights of concerts.  We watch the mother deal with all this.
By the end of the day we had push into Wisconsin and bedded down in Eau Claire.    The next day we expect to arrive to Chicago and familiar digs.

IT’S HIGH TIME FOR BABY BOOMERS TO TAKE COVID-19 SERIOUSLY
I understand huge numbers of us gen X-ers feel youthful and strong, however I encourage you to please remain safe during this pandemic.
In spite of the fact that anybody can get coronavirus, it's us gen X-ers - explicitly those ages 60 and more seasoned - who are bound to turn out.
On the off chance that you have hidden conditions, for example, coronary illness, diabetes, or lung malady, you'll should be extra cautious.
In the same way as other boomers, I felt youthful and sound and wasn't excessively concerned when this began.
All things considered, our age believes ourselves to be additional intense.
Is it safe to say that we aren't the age that endure drinking water out of a hose and vehicles without safety belts?
To think about all the germs we were presented to as we played in the mud burrowing for night crawlers and ate food dropped on the floor before germaphobia
Also, take a gander at the age of those running the nation.
President Donald Trump is 73, Nancy Pelosi is 79, and the two residual contender for the Democratic designation, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, are 77 and 78, individually.
My dad, 87, was all the while going around in spite of the considerable number of alerts.
The barbarous moniker, "Boomer Remover," referencing the higher death rate among more seasoned individuals tainted with coronavirus started drifting on Twitter.
The Washington Post became related with the slanting term by featuring boomers who have disregarded exhortation from the CDC and wouldn't roll out any improvements to their way of life.
On a Facebook page for "The Villages," a Florida retirement network, most the occupants appeared to concur that the pandemic was "being exaggerated."
Presently, I'm not exhorting that we boomers begin freezing, however I believe it's the ideal opportunity for a disposition alteration for a few of us suspicious boomers that have felt this before.
Remember that this infection couldn't care less how old you look and feel.
Take a gander at boomers Tom Hank and Rita Wilson, both 63, who unquestionably feel youthful on the most fundamental level yet tried positive for the infection.
Here in California where I live, there have been in excess of 300 instances of coronavirus.
Schools in our general vicinity have been closed down.
Bars and distilleries have been approached to close and cafés to slice their ability down the middle.
Gavin Newson asked all occupants beyond 65 years old to self-isolate in their homes.
"We perceive that social confinement for many Californians is nervousness inciting," he said.
Be that as it may, "we have to meet this second head on, and lean in and own this second... what's more, take activities we believe are proportionate with the need to secure the most defenseless Californians."
Presently, President Donald Trump has given rules encouraging Americans to keep away from parties of in excess of 10 individuals.
It feels like I'm living in a scene of Twilight Zone.
Along these lines, it's a great opportunity to begin paying attention to this my kindred boomers.
My better half is 60 and I will turn 60 not long from now, so I'm focusing on all the rules.
Let me get straight to the point, I am not a clinical expert, yet I'll share a portion of my examination for explicit safety measures more seasoned grown-ups.
However, recollect: Recommendations for coronavirus may change as authorities find out additional, so screen your neighborhood wellbeing division and the CDC for refreshes.
Here are a few hints for those beyond 60 years old dependent on exhortation from the CDC:
* Stock up on provisions including staple goods, family things, and over-the-counter prescriptions you'll require on the off chance that you become wiped out.
Contact your doctor about acquiring additional physician recommended prescriptions you have to have available if self-isolated.
* Social separating is the new expression for 2020.
Remain six feet from others - think about the length of a normal lounge area table or a couple of skis.
Maintain a strategic distance from swarms and unnecessary travel, particularly travels.
* You've just heard this, yet wash your hands regularly with cleanser for in any event 20 seconds. The wellbeing secretary Matt Hancock recommended washing hands while singing Happy Birthday twice.
However different melodies will fill in also. For instance, the melody of Staying Alive will work: "Regardless of whether you're a sibling or whether you're a mother/You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive/Feel the city breakin' and everyone shakin'/And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive/Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive/Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive." Prefer nation? Attempt the ensemble from Dolly Parton's great down home melody Jolene: "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/I'm asking of you kindly don't take my man/Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/Please don't take him since you can."
If cleanser and water are not accessible, utilize a hand sanitizer that contains in any event 60% liquor.
* Avoid contacting your face and as often as possible contacted surfaces out in the open spots - light switches, lift catches, entryway handles, handrails, handshaking with individuals, and so forth.
Utilize a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand on the off chance that you should contact something.
At home, clean and sterilize regularly, particularly surfaces that are frequently contacted like ledges, tables, entryway handles, light switches, toilets, spigots, sinks - and remember your mobile phone.
Notwithstanding these safeguards, look out for manifestations that can incorporate fever, hack, and brevity of breath.
On the off chance that you have an inclination that you are creating side effects, remain at home and call your primary care physician.
Be certain and educate them that you have or may have coronavirus (COVID-19) so they can shield others from becoming ill.
Approach your medicinal services supplier for clinical exhortation.
In the event that you have gentle manifestations and are not debilitated enough to be hospitalized, you can most likely recoup at home.
If so, the CDC's exhorts you get clinical consideration quickly in the event that you create crisis cautioning signs, for example,
* Difficulty breathing or brevity of breath
* Persistent torment or weight in the chest
* New disarray or powerlessness to stir
* Bluish lips or face
This rundown isn't comprehensive and the CDC suggests that you counsel your clinical supplier for whatever other manifestations that are "serious or concerning."
So my kindred boomers, remain safe yet keep quiet and positive.

To wit: Experiences, FTW.The advent of RankBrain means pages rank not simply for keywords, but for content that fulfills users'requirements-- and provides a better

Take it from me-- experiences matter more than anything. Srsly. Like, when you're on your deathbed, are you going to believe,"I want I 'd ranked for more keywords"? No. You're going to wish you had sent out more snaps from Coachella. I.e., you ought to always have major UX FOMO. #THIS "I love it when pages take 3 seconds to load, "said no one ever. Link building used to be all about amount. I can't even. Literally dying. Now, luckily, it has to do with quality, consisting of links from authoritative sites-- and those relevant to your very own-- as well as high quality content. It's like why I just drink little batch scotch and craft beer from regional distilleries and breweries. I not only wish to support local services, I feel like huge

Simple: Be everywhere. Two Words: Guy Bun.This perfect appearance will keep your hair from your face so you can correctly focus on SEO. The struggle is real. That's due to the fact that the larger the beard, the more SEO conference attendees will want to take selfies
with you.
And, by association, the more you'll look like a professional SEO without even attempting. Yaaasss.Go Vegan.Organic search is like organic food. All of us wish to consume healthy, but often Taco Bell strikes the spot. Withstand the urge. Going vegan will improve your total health and make you better at SEO.
Google it.Stop Environment Change. Why are we even doing SEO if our world is dying, TBH? In my experience, the finest
way to stop environment change
is to share an image on your Facebook wall. Changing the world is so easy I cannot think everybody isn't really doing it already. Feel the Bern.Vote for Bernie because Trump will basically censor the Web for whatever but pro-Trump material, resulting in Trumptimization as a new field, which will change SEO altogether. Plus, like I stated-- My student loans are hella costly and I think someone else ought to pay them.

2018 Road Trip
The last 6 months or so have been an adventure as I’ve tried to buckle down on my business and pinpoint what exactly is the best use of my limited time. Between being a perfectionist and a people pleaser - both of which are crippling and make menial tasks unnecessarily time consuming - I’ve tried to get better about picking my battles and investing myself more fully in the things that matter.
In a business sense that means finding the things that pay the bills and focusing on them. But more importantly, in a life sense, it means taking time to be with those I love. Frequently that means I have to actually schedule time with people (I’ve actually started using a real-life calendar believe it or not), and I’m still usually late (you’re all saints for putting up with me), but I’ve also allowed myself a couple of solid vacations.
In March I took one heck of a road trip with my friend Melanie. We met in while in college in Florence, Italy and have traveled to England, Scotland, and several states together. She’s pretty much my ideal road trip partner:  willing to stop and read historic plaques (or at least let me read them), take pictures with me from sunup till sundown, and alternate between quiet, resting stillness and fast paced adventure. She’s also patient and loving to the nth degree aannndddd she likes my music so she can handle sitting in a car with me for hours on end.
We started our adventure in North Carolina where I picked her up at the Charlotte airport. After a day of shopping, we drove to Asheville where we spent one full day exploring the arboretum, the downtown, and at least for my part, did some more shopping. We hadn’t really been paying attention when planning and had accidentally showed up in the East-Coast-Capitol-of-Craft-Beer on Saint Patricks Day, a holiday neither of us care for. All that to say, we found the only place in the city that didn’t serve beer and had a lovely dinner.
We spent the next morning exploring foggy fields and chasing waterfalls in the state park. The plan was to catch the waterfalls at sunrise but we kept getting distracted by all of the beautiful scenes between our Airbnb and our destination.
We ate lunch in downtown Knoxville, TN (a city I’d really like to see more of) on the way to Glasgow, KY. We honestly both picked Kentucky because neither of us had ever been there and wanted to check it off the list. We only stayed one night but it wasn’t enough. I don’t know about the rest of the state but this little part that we experienced was beautiful. Our Airbnb was on a horse rescue farm and the owner drove us around and introduced us to his 30+ horses. We tried to check out the nearby National Park which apparently has the world’s most extensive (400+ mile) cave system but unfortunately none of the tours lined up with the time we had available. Definitely going back someday for that.
Despite it being the first day of Spring, we had to leave early and head to our final destination, Nashville, to beat a tornado warning that was supposed to go into effect that afternoon. We never did see a tornado but it did decide to snow!
Nashville was an adventure itself. The first half of my time in Nashville we stayed with Melanie’s friend Hannah who’s hospitality was boundless. We listened to fabulous artists at The Basement and The Listening Room, got massages, explored another state park, and tried out as many different coffee shops as we could find.
A few days into my time in Nashville, Melanie had to head home and Bernie flew in to finish out the trip. We spent a full day walking all over downtown, just to see what we could see. We both decided it’s not really for us - the noise and bustle. What we did love though were the things on the outskirts. We toured one of the first distilleries in the United States and Belle Meade plantation where they raised derby-winning horses, walked through Antique Archaeology’s shop (note that I didn’t buy anything in there but it was really cool), and ate more food than is probably good for any two people. The top of the list was probably the bacon at Biscuit Love - definitely worth the hour-long wait in line, or the donuts at Five Daughters - which we ate twice; they were that good. Nashville as a whole is a beautiful city. Even if you’re not a city-person or a die-hard music lover, I was impressed with the array of things to see and do. There were more murals in Nashville than in any other city I think I’ve been to, which does a lot for this creative soul.
The best part about the trip was that I put my shop on vacation, posted on social media only if I felt like it, and just enjoyed my time with my friend. When I got back I found out that my film camera had unknowingly decided to call it quits and I only got a third of the photos I’d taken. I was a little demoralized after that honestly and wasn’t as excited about sharing the trip with y’all because I don’t have the images to back up the adventure. But I have the memories and I’ll hold onto those as long as I can. Life isn’t about documentation, it’s about spending time on the things that matter. And friends and family - that’s what matters.

Dancing FBI agent accidentally shoots bar patron in Denver: police
(Reuters) – An off-duty FBI agent dancing wildly at a downtown Denver bar accidentally shot a man in the leg when the agent tried to pick up a gun that fell from its holster as he performed a handstand, Denver police said.
A bystander recorded video of the incident involving the unnamed agent, which authorities said took place early on Saturday at the Mile High Spirits and Distillery night spot, and the footage was shared widely online on Sunday.
In a statement, the Denver Police Department said the agent “was dancing at a night club when his firearm became dislodged from its waistband holster and fell onto the floor. When the agent retrieved his handgun an unintended discharge occurred.”
Another bar patron was hit by a bullet in a lower leg, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury, said the statement by a department spokeswoman, Marika Putnam.
The agent was taken to police headquarters, Putnam said, and later released to an Federal Bureau of Investigation supervisor. The Denver District Attorney’s office will decide whether to press any charges against the agent.
Denver district attorney spokesman Ken Lane said by email on Sunday morning that the DA’s office had no comment as the incident remains under investigation by the Denver Police.
Denver FBI spokeswoman Amy Sanders also said that Denver Police are leading the investigation and that it was a ‘personnel matter for the FBI.” She did not say how the FBI has or will discipline the agent.

Whiskey Maggie
Whiskey Maggie is an Irish duo, guitarist and piper, whom recently formalized their alliance of Celtic fare. You can catch these guys on stages all around the city, I most recently saw them at Bernies Distillery a weekend or two ago. They always have a great time playing, and you can expect some awesome fluting, accordion, and hearty emerald isle balladeering.
