Syndikat bleibt!//Syndikat se queda!
Fotos:Octubre 2018
Lugar: Weisestr.

Berlin, the tolerant and multicultural city, just when you have real money.
Before declaring war on a space, before wanting to kill it, making it disappear, getting it out of one own sight, through the malice and the indifference of legal means, people should at least have the decency of observing that space a bit closer, even just for a moment.
They should try at least to get to know that space, what it is, what's done in there, who's taking care of it, for what reason it was created and still exists; people should try to understand what kind of wish lead someone to create such a space and to take care of it for years, everyday.
People should also being able to notice the significant differences between a space created just for profit purposes and a space that origins from the desire of creating a community, of activating new processes; a space open for everyone, that creates culture coming from the bottom for and with all those people living in the neighbourhood.
Labettolab has always been a space for the neighbourhood and we see in the accusations of being a place for „tourists“ a lot of racism and discrimination. If Neukölln is an area for tourists and Schillerkiez as well, then we are a space for tourists as well. Germany feels proud of its multicultural Berlin, homeland of a happy and tolerating multiethnic coexistence. But this tolerance ends when speculation and economical profit start. Capitalism uses every kind of weapon to reach its only basic need: profit.
We are aware persons and we know that the endless reports of house-owners have just one goal: to kick out old tenants and rent these places again, after a whitening renovation and for double or triple the price. It's just about making money, that's it.
The city of creativity and art is dying. Spaces have to close, people go away and this is happening because the speculative capitalism has created strategies for its own advantage and to the disadvantage of everything else: our lives, our jobs, our neighbourhoods and our dreams; nothing of this belongs to us, we have been living here for years, we have contributed to create what makes Berlin a charming city, but all of this doesn't belong to us, it belongs to investors and owners, sitting on luxury armchairs of some 47th floor in Luxembourg, who do „double click“ to decide who's gonna be the next one to be thrown out. They are the ones who decide until when we are allowed and have to live our neighbourhood.
Unfortunately for some residents are not entirely clear the political and economical frames of these strategies and naively they play the game of the owners: they complain about minimal noise, they seek for other's support, they orchestrate plans to solve the problem, they go after the small ones because the big ones are untouchable. Some neighbours are not aware of the fact that at the end of the day this saber will hit them as well and they will be surprised to receive an eviction notice. They will not understand why, they will only find out that they will have to make room for the next ones; right! If your buying power does not match up with time, you have to leave, make space for those who can afford it.
The saber goes around Berlin areas like a boomerang, sometimes it mows someone down and everyone else breathes a sigh of relief and hope they will not be the next ones.
Fear falls heavy and everyone tries their best not to upset the owner. We have being hearing so many stories in these last years, many of my neighbours were forced to leave.
There is a big lack of empathy in those people (luckily very few, 2 in my street and one in the house) who reported my place to the owners and complained about it hoping that I will be kicked out. They can't stop one minute to think about what does it mean to run a space, how many difficulties, how much work and sweat, sacrifices, love and comprehension.
There's the whole life of a person. They don't care about all of this, they don't waste a minute trying to understand what it means. They just want their deafening silence, ignoring that in the essence of a very big city there should be also tolerance and coexistence instead of selfishness and isolation.
Exactly because we are forced to live everyone next to each other, we should try to understand and communicate to each other, to create a happy coexistence.
Possibly without police or owners as mediators.
Just because there's no morals or loyalty but only profit, the only way to resist to these attacks is to create a community. Reading beyond the surface and stop thinking ourselves as single entities, which are obviously more vulnerable and easier to be attacked. We should start thinking as a community, many, strong and with the common goal to take back what belongs to us, all that we bulit all together. All of these can't be taken away with the justification of noises.
We are the reason why millions of people come every year to visit this city, i'm sorry for those architects who renovated the Brandenburger Tor with cream and plasterboard, or for those who built the glass dome at the Reichstag as a symbol of transparency. We are the real attraction of this city, not them. And for this reason we should be protected and respected.
We produce the real berliner culture, multicultural and international since always. We give space to the emerging artists, we produce the avantgardes, we are the Berlin scene.
All of that, we do it for free, without fundings, without asking resources to anybody, just with our own work, our energy and love and support of all those people which partecipated until now.
Take a walk around the Schillerkiez before putting someone to the sword, and ask the people what they think about Labettolab. You'll probably find out some news that will make your mind change. Probably you'll find out that there's something deeper than your craving silence, and it is freedom. Because when all of us will be gone, here won't be much left. Except your deafening sadness and isolation dressed up with some balsamico cream, Aldi's Toskana brotchen and a slew of cafes and restaurants you can not afford. #labettolab #bettobleibt #berlinschillerkiez #schillerkiez #berlingentrifiezierung #gentrifizierung #berlingentrifizierung #verdrängung #wemgehörtdiestadt #diestadtalsbeute #gentrificationsucks #gentrificaction #gentrificación #gentrificació (at LaBettolab) https://www.instagram.com/p/BneJ6YPlwCR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qwz1t4xyog7u
