What Giedi Prime architecture learns us about the man Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen is
If (when...) I think of Giedi Prime, this is what I think of from an architecture perspective. And what I believe it learns us about our main man.
Or rather said, that this is what I choose to think of - brutalism and concrete to provide our benevolent lord with the most beautiful architecture befitting of him and his planet

Ofcourse, I started my fanfic writing bc I wanted to see Feyd-Rautha paired with a female warrior who could best him. But I also desperately wanted to describe the architectural choices made from an urban planning perspective.
Which I did in 2 chapters of Choosing to Follow Destiny:
A new reality - here the na-Baron gives our lead lady a ornithopter tour over Barony, and manages to express his love for the city.
He explained how he loved the massiveness of the buildings, their bold and unapologetic shapes. The city expressed power, creation by man, imposingness. It reflected the Harkonnen nature.

By the time she had said “so you see yourself represented in this design of this city?” she recognised this could be interpreted as an insult, also given the tone of her voice. An insult he did not seem to pick up on as he answered: “perhaps you are right. The city is made to have a lasting impression, spanning generations.”
Tumblr media
He added, while looking directly in her eyes: “I will take this as a compliment, for me and my city”.

Contemplating the further explanations he gave, she could not help but to start recognise the inventiveness he alluded to. The creativeness allowed when designing different buildings. Although they lacked colour and detailed colourful ornaments, and there seemed to be strict overarching architectural guidelines to adhere to, the buildings also had a form of honesty and perhaps even elegance. They were brutal in seeking to achieve their functionality.

Looking with a bird's-eye view, it became clear that Barony was not a city that had organically developed over time, but rather one build in accordance with an overarching city planning in mind, although it was and continued to be over the span of hundreds of years. She still didn’t feel it was a beautiful city, but could understand how someone would feel it had its charm.
Perhaps each of these observations also applied to Feyd-Rautha.
Each of them could be taken as insults, but are in fact compliments.
Tumblr media
After leaving the ornithopter she sensed that he had opened up to her. Although he was not born in this city, or this planet, he had come to love it. He had taken the time to show her something that he loved, to express why he loved it and to uncover part of himself in the process. Without a need for him to do so.

A party befitting Feyd-Rautha as bouncer
As if it was water, music came flowing from every part of the building to reach her ears and body. This utilitarian building could not have been anything else than be purposely made for this goal. Step by step she started to understand Feyd-Rautha's love for Barony.

Belgrade, Pyongyang, Berlin, Moscow, Jo'burg, Buzludzha (Bulgaria) - places I visited with the sole purpose of seeing these beautiful buildings through my own eyes
@sandwormrp - bc I recall one of your previous architecture posts which I adored
