Next chapter // Chapter index
In the middle of the ocean, on a small island lost in thick fog, lay the crews of the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates. Once again their paths crossed, much to Trafalgar Law's misfortune and Monkey D. Luffy's delight. Despite having seen each other a few weeks ago, Luffy insisted that this umpteenth encounter should be celebrated with a big feast, a bonfire, and music. The Hearts, equally fond of a good night's drinking, gladly accepted the offer without consulting their captain, who had expressed reservations about the idea. Although Law was hesitant, his crewmates knew he didn't harbor animosity towards the Straw Hats and that he would be unable to resist an evening with them. Why? Well, let's just say they were well aware of their captain's weak spot... a weak spot concealed within the opposing crew.
A cheerful melody of violin fills the night air. Between the beach and the tropical forest, a towering fire illuminates the faces gathered around it. Luffy, Penguin, Shachi, Usopp, Bepo, and Hakugan dance enthusiastically around the flames, waving their arms and reveling in the moment. Even after a hearty meal the guys find the energy to twirl and celebrate. Chopper, his belly full, peacefully dozes in Robin's embrace while she talks with Jean Bart and Jinbe. Brook plays the violin while Franky joins in with an old tune. Nami, Zoro, Uni and Clione are competing to see who can best hold their liquor, with the redhead taking the lead of course. After completing his cooking duties, Sanji approached Ikkaku, expressing that he doesn't have the opportunity to see her often and desires to cherish every moment in her delightful company throughout the evening. Although unimpressed by the blond's flattery, the young woman allowed him to continue to be around her. Leaning against a tree, Law observes the pirates with a bored expression, yet a faint smile betrays his true feelings. And you? You sit slightly apart from the others, quietly observing the festivities.
The others made efforts to include you in their activities, and you almost succumbed to Usopp's invitation; however, you opted to take it easy instead. Despite your desire to join the dance, you feel too drained to participate. While you find the drinking competition entertaining to watch, your distaste for alcohol prevents you from taking part. Although you enjoy listening to Robin's stories, there's a risk of nodding off while she speaks. Right now, despite your body craving it, sleep is the last thing on your mind.
You're glad to see your friends unwinding and enjoying themselves; everyone needs it. It's a relief that the Sunny has stopped at a deserted island. Since leaving Wano, you've encountered one unpleasant situation after another with pirates who believed they can defeat Luffy. Additionally, you've had to hastily depart from the last three islands as the Navy was covertly lying in wait for you. It feels like the crew's every move is being meticulously tracked. Nami insisted on searching the Sunny in case a camera had been planted on board. Thankfully, nothing was found, but it's clear that every member of the crew is exhausted. Meeting the Hearts provides the much needed distraction to unwind.
You can sense that Law isn't pleased with this coincidence. At least he's smiling. You noticed it when your gaze landed on him. The fire casts such a beautiful glow on his skin. He's dressed in a white tank top that showcases his black tattoos. You're secretly admiring the artwork - well, you think you're being subtle, but you soon realize that Law is watching you. Caught red-handed, you quickly avert your gaze. Despite this, you can still sense his eyes on you, and it's embarrassing.
“Chronicler-san!”
You are surprised when you hear your nickname cheerfully shouted by the Heart navigator. The guys halt their dancing while Brook takes a break to stretch his bones. Bepo, exhausted and needing to catch his breath, settles down next to you. You greet him with a warm smile. The polar bear is someone you appreciate, even though you've never had time to chat for more than a few minutes. It's not as if you've had the opportunity in the past. You're constantly in dangerous situations or caught up in Law and Luffy's plans. Come to think of it, this is probably the first time you've all been together outside of a mission.
"It's a beautiful night!" he says, wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. He's breathing hard, which is not surprising given his size, but he still takes the trouble to ask if you're okay between breaths.
"I'm fine, and you? Life with your crew isn't too hard?" you reply in a playful tone.
"I could ask you the same question about yours," he replies, laughing. "I'm fine, a little out of breath."
"A little?" you say, raising your eyebrows and smiling, gently teasing him. You've just witnessed him dancing for a solid thirty minutes. It was quite entertaining. It's a good thing everyone was dressed casually; otherwise, you're sure Bepo would have fainted. He might have even ended up in the fire. There's always something wild happening at parties.
Bepo usually chooses to be by his captain's side, so you get the impression that he hasn't come to see you by chance. You're curious about why he's here, but based on what little you know of him, you can tell he's likely searching for the right words. You choose to keep the conversation going.
"How's your journey been since Wano? I hope you haven't run into too much trouble with the new bounties, unlike us."
"We came across a few annoying cases, but Captain is so strong, he wiped them out in a heartbeat!" Bepo gestures animatedly as he speaks with such admirationI. It's cute. "To avoid drawing any attention, we stayed underwater most of the time. Otherwise, the Marines would have chased us too."
"Oh Bepo!" you gasp, and it's his turn to jump. "Would you trade places with me? I'd do anything to live underwater for a while and vanish from the Marines' radar!"
"I don't think the captain would be happy about losing his navigator!" He chuckles, glancing at Law, who once again looks your way, though you remain unaware.
"Don't worry, I've got a plan," you wink at Bepo and motion for him to lean in. As his ear draws near, you whisper, "I'm going to dress up as a polar bear, and you're going to wear a wig. No one will suspect a thing!"
Bepo straightens up with a laugh. "Do you even have any navigation skills?"
"No, but that's a detail!"
You both laugh at this outlandish idea. Pulling off such a plan would be next to impossible, but the thought of wearing a polar bear suit and casually strolling around the Polar Tang brings a smile to your face. You can imagine the amused reactions of the Heart Pirates, except for Law. As for Luffy, you know he'd be thrilled to have Bepo join your crew simply because he's a mink.
"What brought you out of hiding?" You ask.
“Hm?”
"Why did you surface and come to this island?"
"Oh! Um... Well... It's kind of my fault. I enjoy being on the Polar Tang, but after a while, I start craving some sun and fresh air. My body can't handle the heat of the submarine. Maybe I complained a bit too much to the captain, and he agreed to stop at the next island, which happened to be this one." The navigator scratches the back of his head, embarrassed.
"I'm sure the others wanted some fresh air too. Just look at them!"
The two of you take a moment to observe the Heart Pirates. All you see are smiling faces, including Hakugan's mask. To you, this scene appears ordinary, but for Bepo, it holds significant meaning. They spent months without their captain, wondering if he would come back alive. And when he did, they had to face two emperors, which could have ended badly. Bepo smiles proudly. Their captain is healthy, and everyone is safe. They emerged victorious.
"I was so relieved when I saw the Polar Tang in the distance." you murmur as you continue to look at the others.
"Really?" asks Bepo, curious to know the reason.
"Yeah... I'm tired of all the fighting. We haven't had a break in ages. When I saw the submarine, my body just relaxed. I know you won't harm us. I feel safe with you guys." You glance at Bepo with a wide smile and flushed cheeks. Suddenly, you realize the magnitude of your words. "B-But I know we're not... I mean, we're enemies."
“Right, enemies…”
As if you shared the same brain, your attention shift to Law and then Luffy. Finally, you meet each other's eyes and hold back a laugh. Yeah, enemies. Luffy can't consider Law a real enemy, not after all they've been through. And honestly, you'd like the alliance to be renewed, someday. It may never reach the same level as when Law lived aboard the Thousand Sunny, but having him as an ally is comforting.
"I'm glad you feel this way with us. I feel safe with you too!"
You're taken aback by his declaration, and even more so by the wide grin Bepo offers in return. You don't doubt his sincerity. Your heart races, and your cheeks ache from smiling so much. Then, you hear a small voice in the back of your head saying, "He shouldn't."
You look at the fire, and gradually your smile loses its brightness. Returning to the boat would be a wise choice. The conversation is enjoyable, but you shouldn't continue. You're enemies, despite everyone getting along well. It's only a matter of time before Law betrays Luffy again.
Bepo noticed the sudden shift. “Alright, now would be a good time to intervene,” he thought. But how? It's not for nothing that he decided to approach you. While he was dancing, he noticed that his captain was watching you intently. The subtle frown of his eyebrows meant he saw something wrong with you. And it must have been very important, given the tension in his shoulders and his clenched jaw. As his second mate, it was his duty to find out what was wrong with you, for the sake of his captain's sanity!
Now that he's close to you, he sees what his captain noticed.
"Are you sure everything's alright? Your dark circles are starting to look like the Captain's, and that's never a good sign," Bepo jokes, trying to lighten the mood with his question.
"It's a bit unsettling, isn't it?" you ask, with a dry laugh. "I don't sleep very well."
"B-because of the attacks?"
You hesitate for a moment. "Partly."
Bepo senses there's something more, but he's uncertain how to encourage you to open up without crossing any lines. Yes, he's eager to assist his captain, but... Bepo genuinely wants to help you. He's always held a fondness for you. He recalls your initial interaction: you were kind and appreciative. His mink instincts don't fool him; he's adept at sensing energies that humans might overlook.
"Captain could prescribe you some sleeping pills," he suggested in a hushed tone.
"I don't want to sleep," you confessed darkly.
Instantly, Bepo understands.
"Nightmares."
You nod in agreement. Bepo has known Law since childhood, and living with someone who suffers from chronic nightmares alters one's perception of sleep. For Law, sleep isn't refreshing. Bepo has seen him push himself to stay awake to the brink, and it's not a pleasant sight. So when you mention that you're reluctant to sleep because of nightmares, the navigator believes he can understand the root of the issue. However, he doesn't plan to pry further with any probing questions.
"As a doctor's assistant, I feel obliged to list all the reasons why sleep is important, but I suppose you already know them all."
You tilt your head slightly and regard him with curiosity. "You help Law during surgery? I had no clue! How long have you been studying medicine?"
"Oh, well, everyone in the crew knows how to assist the captain during surgery! It's crucial knowledge that enables us to handle situations both on and off the submarine. I've been learning for - You've changed the subject."
You look down, embarrassed.
“I did. Sorry…”
"N-no! I'm the one who's sorry!" Bepo attempts to reassure you, his tone gentle. He doesn't want you to think he's mad at you.
"Please, don't be. I'm the one who tried to fool you."
Bepo sighs, concern etched across his features as he observes you. He notices your trembling hands, the dark circles under your eyes... You don't resemble the vibrant young woman he met at Sabaody. Reflecting on it, even during your time in Wano, you seemed burdened by stress, much like everyone else.
"How many hours have you been awake...?"
"About... 60 hours, I think. Actually no, that's not true. I sleep 5 to 15 minutes every few hours, it's never a deep sleep. I wake up as soon as I hear a noise. The adrenaline rush from the fights keeps me going, pushing myself beyond my limits. But I feel strange. My heart feels like it's pounding everywhere, I can't focus on writing, food's lost its appeal, Sanji has saved my ass a few times during fights because I'm not paying full attention, sometimes my vision gets blurry and I see things in the corner of my vision. But otherwise I feel fine."
In one breath, you spill out your words, leaving Bepo staring at you with wide eyes, clearly shocked by your extreme lifestyle. He shouldn't be so surprised; enduring 60 hours without sleep is far from healthy, but for you, it seems, this is just another day in the life.
"Have you discussed it with the others...?"
"They're aware of my nightmares; that's nothing new. But I haven't brought up my current issue. It'd be foolish for Monkey D. Luffy to have a crewmate who can't sleep due to stupid nightmares... I don't want to embarrass him."
"Nightmares are not something to be taken lightly, especially the ones that are-" Bepo stops abruptly, his expression twisting into a grimace. "Uh.. Don't feel ashamed. Capt-," he halts once more, grunting in frustration. His lips clamp shut as he bites down on them, then he resumes, "I know someone incredibly strong and respected who dealt with nightmares. They'll never be seen as weak or a disgrace in my eyes. They're truly remarkable, destined to become the king of—" Bepo abruptly cuts himself off, covering his mouth with his hand. He's let slip more than intended.
The navigator's reaction is cute. It's clear he's referring to Law. You appreciate what he's trying to say. You understand why the Heart Pirates hold the polar bear in such high regard; he truly has a talent for making people feel at ease with his attentive listening and open-mindedness. You can't help but wonder if he also serves as a psychologist on board the submarine; it wouldn't be surprising.
Slowly, you lower your head, resting your elbows on your knees and concealing your face behind your hands, assuming a vulnerable posture. With your back bent and your shoulders trembling, it's a sight that catches Bepo off guard. Panic grips him, and he quickly scans the surroundings, ensuring that no Straw Hat crew member is watching. You're... You're crying. And he's the one to blame! He feels a pang of guilt wash over him. He's replaying what he said to you, he doesn't know what could have provoked such a reaction! He wouldn't dare hurt you on purpose!
Bepo's hands fidget nervously as he mutters a string of "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" His entire focus is on you, but he can sense his captain's frustration looming in the background, only adding to his anxiety. If you were part of his crew, he'd instinctively reach out to hug you, offering comfort and reassurance. But you're not part of his team, and he hesitates, unsure if such a gesture would be appropriate. After all, he doesn't know you well enough to gauge your comfort level with physical contact.
“Can I... hold her? Give her a hug?” Bepo's thoughts race frantically as he considers the consequences. “I've seen her snap a man's neck with one kick—I don't want to die!” But the fear of the Straw Hat discovering her tears fills him with dread. “If they see her crying, they'll know I'm the cause... they'll kill me!” He shudders at the thought of facing the wrath of the redhead. “I don't want to provoke her wrath, she's terrifying!” Panic grips him as he wrestles with his dilemma. “Oh no, what am I doing? WHAT AM I DOING??? I'M SO SORRY!”
Behind your hands, a sound that doesn't resemble crying catches Bepo's attention, halting his panic. He tilts his head, intrigued, and whispers your name. Swiftly, you unveil your face to reveal a broad smile, tears glistening in the corners of your eyes. You don't look sad, on the contrary, you're laughing! Relief floods through the navigator as he releases a breath he didn't realize he was holding. For a moment, Bepo had feared the worst—walking the plank and sparking a conflict between Law and Luffy. But now, seeing your smile, he knows everything's alright.
You wipe away your tears of laughter and jest, "What kind of spell have you cast on me, Bepo? I never allow myself to broach this subject with my friends, yet here I am, spilling my heart out to you without a second thought!"
From the look on his face, you realize you've startled him. You let out a soft giggle and gently pat his back. Predictably, Bepo hangs his head and apologizes. Wanting to reassure him, you decide to do what comes naturally to you: offer a hug. You're not sure if he enjoys being cuddled, but he seems like the type who appreciates a good hug. After all, you've witnessed him embrace several members of his crew before.
Since the navigator towers over you by several heads, you have to stand up to reach his neck. Bepo quickly catches on to what you're trying to do and bends over slightly to make it easier for you, allowing you to control the strength of the embrace. As your arms encircle his neck and your face brushes against his fur, you freeze.
"B-Bepo..." you whisper.
The mink senses the tension in your body and quickly pulls away, fearing he's made you uncomfortable. But as he looks at you, he sees anything but discomfort in your expression. You stare at him as if he were your soulmate, as if he were an oasis in the desert, as if he were the most delicious treat in the world!
"Bepo!" you shout, disregarding the volume of your voice entirely. "You're... you're... so..."
"Y-yes?"
"You're so... FLUFFY!!!"
Once again, Bepo relaxes. "Thank you! We polar bear minks are known for having very soft fur," he responds, his tone tinged with pride as he puffs out his chest.
His pride comes to an abrupt halt when he hears you say, "Give me your fur!"
"Huh?! No way!"
You burst out laughing at his reaction.
"You can touch me, if you like. But you can't have my fur!"
"Really?" you say, hopeful.
Bepo nods eagerly, a wide smile spreading across his face, showcasing his beautiful, sharp teeth. Seeing his joy, you can't help but smile too. Driven by a sudden warmth in your chest, you decide to climb onto the polar bear and settle in his lap. It's impossible to wrap your legs around his waist, his stature is impressive, but that doesn't stop you from trying. You can't stop giggling like a child. Your fingers trace down Bepo's arms to his shoulders, and you even muster the courage to touch his round cheeks. It strikes you as surprising that this is the first time you've thought of cuddling him, and you find yourself wishing you'd done it sooner!
Struggling to remain composed, you fight the urge to cling to the navigator and squeeze him like a cuddly stuffed toy. It's not the first time you've had such an impulse. In the past, you nearly suffocated Chopper in your embrace when he donned a cow costume; and poor Karoo fell victim to your accidental feather-plucking. You've always been wary of approaching small animals (and even larger ones) for fear of inadvertently harming them with your overwhelming cute aggression.
You don't want to hurt Bepo, but you want him to know how much his fluffiness messes with your brain.
"You're so cute and soft! I want to bite you!"
Bepo flinches and lets out a little cry of fear. "Please don't!"
You squeeze him with all your strength and rub your face on his furry chest, releasing a high-pitched squeal of delight. Your statement catches him off guard; while he's accustomed to receiving compliments on his fur, being told that someone wants to bite him for it is a first. Unsure of how to respond verbally, Bepo reacts instinctively, wrapping his arms around you and rubbing his head against yours. The two of you share smiles and giggles, caught up in the moment. He couldn't be more adorable!
You let out another cry of joy, causing heads to turn in your direction. The music abruptly stops, and you feel a pang of regret for disturbing everyone. You hadn't realized you were being so noisy.
Suddenly, rubbery arms wrap around you and Bepo, pulling you both into an even tighter embrace. Luffy's body collides with yours, almost knocking the breath out of you. Like a true monkey, the young man clings to you, laughing gleefully in your ear.
"Oi bear, you are fluffy shishishi!"
As you catch your breath, Penguin, Shachi, Hakugan, Franky, and Brook all join the hug. You're completely crushed under the weight of all the men—and the skeleton—but you don't mind. It's a shower of love that you happily accept!
"Yohoho, your fur is so soft! Oh, but I can't feel it, I have no skin yohohoho!" exclaims Brook.
You roll your eyes, a gesture Brook can't mimic, at his classic skeleton joke.
"Bepo is the fluffiest!" declares Penguin.
"Yeah, he's the best mink!" adds Shachi.
The boys return to dancing and singing, leaving you alone with Bepo. His face is flushed with embarrassment, but there's also a hint of happiness in his expression knowing he caused this adorable moment. You're the last one to remain in his arms, cherishing the warmth of the embrace.
You release a long, contented sigh and allow your eyes to drift shut. Gradually, your body begins to relax. You immerse yourself in the sounds around you—the crackling of the fire, Bepo's steady heartbeat, Brook's music, the chatter of voices—and find the atmosphere to be perfect. Feeling a protective hand resting on your back, you take it as confirmation that Bepo doesn't mind your presence on his lap. Whatever worries you had earlier, they slip away from your mind. Normally, you'd muster the strength to snap yourself out of such a relaxed state, perhaps with a sharp slap to the cheeks, but right now, you find yourself unable to resist the pull of fatigue.
Before long, you fall asleep. It feels like being cradled by a giant teddy bear, shielded from the demons of the night. Bepo becomes your protector, kicking away any bad memories and nightmares, ensuring you're safe and sound in his arms. Almost unable to believe it, Bepo watches you sleep, feeling a sense of happiness wash over him. 60 hours awake... If you had continued, you could have slipped into psychosis.
A little further away from the duo, Law sits with his arms crossed and jaw clenched. He attempts to focus on the fire, seeking distraction, but his gaze inevitably returns to you. Your face is nestled against Bepo's chest, mouth slightly parted, hands grasping the bear's fur. A stray lock of your hair appears to tickle your nose; he has the urge to step forward and gently tuck it behind your ear, but refrains. Instead, the captain remains seated against a tree, determined not to retreat back to the submarine.
Of course, Bepo would notice your fatigue; it was obvious. It was the first thing Law noticed when you walked onto the beach.
You stepped off the Thousand Sunny with a radiant smile. You were looking at your feet, a habit he noticed, to avoid falling or running into someone else. Ikkaku took you in her arms, the lucky girl. That's when he saw it. Right there. Your hands, resting on the young woman's back, trembled ever so slightly. Were you that eager to see his crew? No, it couldn't be; when you're excited you tend to hop to your feet, and would have thrown yourself at Ikkaku to cuddle her. His suspicions were confirmed as you stepped back to chat with the brunette—your eyes were heavily bagged. So you were tired. When you're working on the logbook or writing a story, sometimes you get so immersed in your work, you end up pulling an all-nighter. Maybe you've been working a lot the last few days? While plausible, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to it.
Law recalls something peculiar about your behavior earlier in the day. You frequently glanced behind you in a manner that appeared paranoid. Moreover, you seemed more on edge, visibly flinching when Clione tapped you on the shoulder and even when Sanji placed a glass down in front of you at dinner. Nami's earlier conversation with Shachi may shed some light on this.
"People are insane for wanting to test Luffy's power! Ever since his new, stupid poster came out, wannabe pirates have been constantly coming at us! One group even had the audacity to attack us during the night! Zoro was pissed. We thought we could rest on the next island, but nope! The Marine was waiting for us. Sanji didn't even have time to buy food; the boys had to fish every day! I'm sick of eating fish! The Marines pulled the same stunt two other times, but at least on the last island we had enough time to roam around for a few hours and stock up. I decided to change course completely, and that's how we ended up here. So if you attack us, I swear, I'll electrocute you all."
Your nervousness could be attributed to the constant presence of enemies. Yeah, that's likely it. Tonight no one's going to attack you—Law's going to ensure that.
In the ongoing competition, Nami and Zoro are the final contenders. The swordsman eyes the opportunity to pocket some money, and he's adamant about seizing it. Though he's never emerged victorious before, tonight might just be his chance. Meanwhile, Nami has no plans of letting him walk away with the prize without a challenge, but she enjoys seeing him give it his all until he eventually succumbs to sleep.
But, Nami suddenly stops drinking, leaving a glass half-full.
"What? Now you're going to give up? I knew you were going to lose," says Clione, clearly intoxicated.
The redhead doesn't seem to hear; she's bewildered by what she sees across the fire. Has she indulged in too much alcohol, leading to hallucinations, or is it actually you sleeping? Doubtful of her own condition to discern reality, she slaps Zoro's shoulder and gestures towards you. Gradually, the swordsman follows her gesture and frowns in confusion.
"Am I crazy or...?"
"You are crazy, but it's real," replies Zoro. He waves his arm to get his captain's attention. "Oi, Luffy."
The young man tilts his head to the side and stops playing with the guys. He follows the navigator's finger and a huge grin spreads across his face when he sees you sleeping in Bepo's arms. Finally!
"The party's over."
Brook and Franky immediately stop playing music, leaving only the sounds of the fire and nature. The Hearts are visibly intrigued by this drastic change of mood. When Luffy says the party's over, something's wrong.
"What's going on?" Ikkaku asks, a worried look on her face.
Robin stands up while keeping the little reindeer in her arms, gently stroking his head.
"The recent events have affected the sleep of the whole crew, but (y/n) is the one suffering the most. We've tried to help her by giving her chamomile tea and exhausting her with training, but it's not working. Bepo, would you be willing to spend the night with her?"
All eyes are on Bepo, who must deliver an answer quickly. He's feeling the pressure of the Straw Hats. Disappointing them is the least of his concerns; the navigator considers that he owes them nothing. The alliance has dissolved in Wano, and there's nothing compelling him to comply with Nico Robin's request, but... The thing, or rather the person, that makes him hesitate is just a few meters away. Bepo doesn't dare turn to his captain, as it might raise doubts, but he can sense a negative energy emanating from his direction.
"Are you sure this is a good idea? Uh... S-she might wake up if I move."
"No problem; you just have to stay in this exact spot and not move a muscle," Nami replies, her arms crossed and a tone of finality in her voice, indicating she's not open to negotiation.
"Okay... B-but she might get sick if we stay outside!"
"Don't worry bro, I'll go get some blankets, no one will get sick." adds Franky with a thumbs-up.
Bepo lowers his gaze to your sleeping face. You look really comfortable... And with everything you've told him, it would be a shame to wake you up.
"Bepo, you have the right to refuse," Robin finally says, sounding sincere.
Did he truly have a choice? Because right now, he feels like murder will be committed if he refuses. Bepo doesn't mind sharing a sleeping space with you; you're not heavy, you smell good and he trusts you. Law is the problem. Bepo isn't the only one harboring this thought; Penguin and Shachi are visibly nervous as well.
"Bepo will stay with her," Law declares before anyone else can continue the conversation, thus putting an end to the negotiation.
"C-captain?" asks Bepo, uncertain and surprised.
"But only for tonight. My navigator is not at your beck and call," Law adds firmly.
"Of course, Torao." agrees Robin with a mysterious smile. "Franky."
"Yes! I'll be right back with the blankets, I'll be suuuuuuuuper quick!"
"SHH! You'll wake her up if you scream!" Sanji warns.
"Sorry! I'll be suuuuper fast!" murmurs Franky without losing his excitement.
"You're the one who's loud, shitty cook."
"What did you say mosshead!?"
"SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU!"
"Sorry Nami-san!"
The pirates walk away, their voices ranging from hushed murmurs to boisterous chatter. The Straw Hats aren't good at going unnoticed - they never have been. In contrast, the Heart Pirates are accustomed to lurking in the shadows, making silence second nature to them. Most of them bid Bepo a good night, but Shachi and Penguin restrain themselves from voicing the myriad thoughts swirling in their minds. They know that uttering those thoughts could provoke their captain's wrath. They certainly don't want to risk being swapped for the night or, worse, dismembered. So, they remain silent, merely waving their hands in farewell.
And Law? He uses his power to return to the Polar Tang, without uttering a word.

You could smell him before you could see him, that special scent unique to predator type minks, the scent that played to your instincts the most and made your nose twitch, ears perking up under your hoodie, tail wagging excitedly under your skirt against your better judgement. It was just as well you were seated in a corner booth, hiding away at the edge of the derelict bar where you hoped nobody would bother you. It'd been a long time since you'd smelt another mink, even longer since you'd left home to explore the world. You'd begun this journey with the goal in mind of finding your ancestral homeland, having been born far away from the mythical Zou, which at this point you weren't even sure existed as none of the minks you encountered seemed to know anything about it. Not that you'd met a great deal of them, they seemed rare even in the New World, which is why it always got you so excited to catch their scent.
You had no doubt they could smell you too, and you hoped they would be friendly, and handsome, they certainly smelt like a fertile male. You had no doubt they could smell you too, but you let out pheromones of your own anyway, advertising yourself as a fertile female predator mink. Specifically, you were a grizzly bear, but the type of mink that looked more like a human hybrid than a bipedal animal, as females of your kind often were. Your skin was a deep rich brown to match your hair, your nose was a cute little button at the end of a shallow muzzle, and you had two cute little fuzzy ears on your head, usually hidden by a hat or hoodie. You also had sharp claws and a fluffy tail, forcing you to wear fluffy skirts with petticoats to hide it. When your ears were visible, the skirts made you look like you were just a very dedicated lolita with a preference for bear themed outfits, which to be fair did make you look very cute.
The main door to the bar opened and your eyes were wide with curiosity, a tall man with a fluffy white hat and large sword resting on his shoulder entering first, scanning the room carefully. You caught a mischievous grin on his face as he caught your eye, turning to his companions yet to enter and whispering something you couldn't hear over the noise of the bar even with your very sensitive ears. Two men in white boiler suits entered behind him, pulling someone along with them, a fluffy white paw in each hand as they dragged in a large polar bear mink, of the more bipedal animal variety. You'd never even met another bear type mink outside of your parents, and your thighs pressed together unconsciously as he stood at his full height and scanned the room, at least seven feet tall and impressive even from across the room. He looked shy though, the claws at the tips of his index fingers tapping together as his friends released his paws, his fluffy ears flattened against his head as he caught your eye and blushed, the pink visible through his white fur. It made you blush in response, and you pulled down your hoodie, letting him see your own ears, almost identical to his, save for the colour. His ears perked as he saw yours, realising you were also a bear mink, a sweet smile forming on his face that told you perhaps you were the first he'd met as well.
The man with the sword pointed in your direction, and the men in boiler suits set to work forcing the mink towards you, one of them pulling on his arm while the other pushed him. He was wearing a matching boiler suit but in orange, and you noticed now the matching smiling icons embroidered on the suits, a jolly roger perhaps? Looking at the man with the sword again he did look vaguely familiar, perhaps you'd seen him on a bounty poster, you'd never been good at remembering human faces. They seemed friendly enough though, so pirates or not you didn't let it bother you. He approached you first, giving you a friendly smile before helping the other men push the hesitant polar bear into the booth seat opposite you, the bear letting out a nervous little whine that made you giggle, your giggle making him blush further.
“This is Bepo,” the man said, gesturing to the bear, “he's a little shy but I think you'll enjoy his company. And you are?”
“[Y/n],” you offered your hand, and he gave it a firm shake before turning to the bear, leaning with his arm against the bear's shoulder, giving him a reassuring slap on his chest. “Bepo, this is [y/n]. Just like we talked about, okay? Just be yourself, we'll be on the other side of the bar if you need us, but do your best to be brave”
He gave you another kind smile before he and the other two men left, the one with a funny hat that looked like a whale giving Bepo a playful smack on the shoulder before the three of them took up residence in a booth on the opposite side of the bar, making you feel a little like teenagers on a chaperoned date. Bepo was clicking his index claws together, looking anywhere except at you, so you took it upon yourself to get up and move to his side of the seating, forcing him to shuffle over. This wasn't your first time with another mink, you'd laid with a few humans as well, but he was giving off a nervous energy that told you he was just a sweet little virgin, and you wondered if he'd ever even kissed. You decided you would need to take the lead here, if you wanted to get a taste of the bear who was letting off such an alluring scent. He probably didn't even know how good he smelled.
“Hi there, big guy,” you smiled, “what's got a big strong bear like you so nervous? Little ol me? I won't bite, unless you want me to.” The suggestive comment made him squeak, and you couldn't help but let out a playful giggle, the sound music to his ears, making them twitch.
“Sorry,” he said shyly, his voice a lot higher pitched than you expected, “I've never met another mink, not since I was a kid… this is all very new to me”
“Really? That's quite surprising, I thought you were a pirate,” you hummed, “surely you see all kinds of people in your travels”
“I like to stay on the ship,” he replied quietly, “people make me nervous”
“That's okay sweetheart, I understand that. The hairless minks are so very strange, aren't they?” You smiled, “I'm very glad you ventured off the ship today then, what convinced your handsome self to make an exception?”
He blushed heavily at the compliment, his eyes flicking to you for just a moment before returning to anywhere else as he sunk into his chair. “I could… I could smell you from the ship. You smelled so pretty…”
“Do I live up to my scent, sweet thing?” You purred, running a claw under his chin and forcing him to look at you, “you're so very handsome, you certainly live up to your scent. Do you think I'm pretty?”
“Y-yes,” he mumbled, you could hear his heart racing in his chest, “you are… so very beautiful”
“I can feel your friend's eyes burning the back of my head,” you hummed, letting your hand fall and resting it against his thick leg. He jumped a little at the motion, looking down at your hand and back up at you, a cloud of arousal wafting from him in his scent at the small touch. “I have a room upstairs, you wanna come hang out? Have some tea?”
He looked past you to his presumably captain, who gave him an encouraging thumbs up, before turning back to give you a shy nod. You stood and took his paw in yours, and you could hear the cheers of his friends over the crowd as you led him upstairs. You held his hand all the way to the room, it was shaky in yours, you could tell how nervous he was, the poor sweetheart. At the very least you hoped he would be more comfortable away from the crowd sipping some soothing tea, and you wanted a chance to talk to him better without having to shout over all the drunk voices.
The bed bowed and creaked under his weight as you led him to sit on it, not having any other good seating options, while you made him some tea with the small kitchenette. It was really just a cabinet and mini fridge with a tray of complimentary teas and coffee, and a small box of milk, the water in your jug fetched earlier from your small attached bathroom. “Milk and sugar?” You hummed.
“Ah- just two sugars, sorry,” he replied.
“No need to apologise, my sweet,” you smiled as you stirred in sugar and brought him the tea. He immediately took a sip, scalding his tongue and sticking it out to cool it, making you giggle. You could see his eyes light up at the sound, and he gave you a shy smile that made your heart flutter as you sipped your own tea, sitting cross-legged on the bed beside him. “So, you said you knew minks when you were a kid though, right? Do you know Zou?”
“I was born there,” he replied, making you excitedly discard your tea on the side table and raise yourself on your knees to pull at the clothing over his shoulder.
“What's it like? Is it paradise for minks like the legends say? Are there lots of minks there? Can you take me there?” You shouted in quick succession, making the poor bear flinch. “Ah, sorry!” You let yourself fall back to sit on the balls of your feet, “Got a little carried away…”
“I don't really remember it much,” he replied sadly, “I left when I was eight to find my brother, it's been so long”
“Is it true it's on the back of an elephant?” You asked curiously.
“It is!” He smiled, happy he could at least answer one question.
“That's so cool!” Your eyes were practically glittering.
“I take it you were not born there then?” He asked, sipping more tea.
“No, my parents never explained what they were doing away from Zou, but I've been searching for it ever since they died,” you hummed. Your hand fell idly to his thigh, stroking it without thinking as your mind was deep in thought. You didn't even realise you were doing it till he made a little squeak, arousal hitting your sensitive nose, though his body was notably tense and stiff. “Oh, sorry,” you mumbled, removing your hand, “I won't touch you if you don't want me too. I guess I get a little handsy at times”
“Most minks are like that, I think,” he replied, “I was wondering if… ah, no, I don't think I can say it, sorry…”
“You're so cute,” you smiled, “do you want me to touch you, Bepo? I can, if you want me to. I'd like to. You're very handsome, and you smell nice”
The blush on Bepo's face was back as he gave a quiet nod, your hand quickly returning to his thigh. “Perhaps we would be more comfortable without our clothes, I for one feel like my tail is being squished”
“Oh, okay,” he agreed innocently. The two of you stood and undressed yourselves, and you stretched pleasantly as you were freed of the suffocating clothing, twitching your tail happily. Minks didn't really need clothing, you had a thin layer of fur over most of your body, only really hairless at the centre of your torso from your belly up to your neck and face, and also your inner thighs. Your nipples were covered by fur, your genitals tucked away between your legs just like a human female, while male minks like Bepo had a sheath that hid their genitals. As a less human-like mink, Bepo's entire body was covered in thick fur, visible now that he let his boiler suit pool on the floor. Without clothing you both looked far more like bears, and you smiled fondly at him.
The thing with minks was that they were far more intune to their instincts than a human, especially the instincts of the animal they were modelled after. This was especially true of minks during mating, though with experience they were able to get more control over their instincts. Bepo lacked any experience, from what you could tell, which meant he would be entirely at the whims of his instincts if you wished to mate with him. This worked in your favour, being that grizzly bears and polar bears sometimes got together in the wild, the mating rituals of each species being relatively similar. You stepped towards him and brushed your muzzle against his neck, nipping at it to signal your interest, before fleeing playfully to the other side of the room. You could hear his heavy foot falls as he chased you, successfully having activated the more feral part of his brain and initiating the play that was the bear equivalent of foreplay. It would be a difficult balance, weighing what his instincts wanted versus what would make the more human part of him feel good, but it was a challenge you were more than interested in pursuing.
He caught you as you scrambled across the bed, pinning you down as you turned to face him. Your muzzle met his and you kissed him hard, his mouth immediately opening so you could chase his tongue with yours, feeling his cock unsheathing against your stomach. You reached down between your bodies and wrapped your hand around it, rubbing your thumb over the head to collect his precum and using it as lubrication to stroke him. His head fell against your shoulder, making excited barks and chuffs as you stroked him. Like many minks, he had a sort of hybrid cock; long and supported by a bone like a polar bear, but thicker and with a more bulbous head like a human. If you were a human female he would be far too large for you, his cock proportional to his massive body, but with your bear anatomy you were well suited to take him, though it would be quite a delicious stretch.
You were a little surprised in truth at how quickly he had unsheathed for you, he was certainly eager to mate, the air now thick with your joint arousal, making your noses twitch as you both made little growls. You nuzzled and chewed on his neck, making him whine, and you pushed a hand against his chest to indicate you wanted him to roll off you. He laid back against the mattress, his chest heaving, and you kissed him hard again as you straddled his thick legs, running your tongue over his sharp teeth and smoothing the appendage against his.
“Is this okay Bepo?” You asked him, lowering yourself down the bed until you were laying between his legs, your breath brushing against his cock as you stroked it, “can I taste you? You smell so nice, I'd like to taste you”
“Ah- yes-” he whined, covering his face shyly but watching you with one eye that peeked between his fingers. You giggled at his adorable shyness and ran your tongue up the long length of his cock, still stroking the base with your hand as you took the tip in your mouth. His tongue was clicking to indicate his pleasure as you bobbed your head, mixed with little whines as his paw came to rest against the back of your head, not putting any pressure but playing occasionally with your ears and scratching at the base of them, at the sensitive spot only those with ears like yours knew about.
You couldn't hope to take all of his cock in your mouth, but what you managed was more than enough for him anyway, the hot warm feeling of your mouth around him being entirely unfamiliar and making him squirm cutely. “Ah- ah- [y/n],” Bepo whined, “I feel strange- hnng-”
“Let go, Bepo, cum for me,” you said sweetly, the bear immediately mewling as thick cum dripped from his cock, which you eagerly lapped up, letting the rest spurt directly into your mouth. He was panting hard as you let him go with a pop, licking cum from your hand and running your tongue over your muzzle to clean it.
“That- that was incredible,” he huffed, “can I make you feel like that?”
“You can,” you grinned mischievously, “come put your head between my legs, I'll guide you”
Shyness entirely lost as he became dedicated to making you feel good too, he quickly repositioned himself, the two of you finding a comfortable position that accommodated his large body by seating yourself at the edge of the bed while he knelt in front of you on the floor. He looked up at you eagerly from between your legs, and you pet his head lovingly, scratching behind his ears the same way he had for you. He stuck out his dark tinted tongue and ran it up your thigh, before using his large paws to hold your legs open, claws threatening to pierce but he was careful to not let them. Your own hand came between your legs, spreading your labia for him to see, playing with your clit and occasionally dipping a finger inside yourself. Your scent was driving him wild as you masturbated for him, so close to his nose, and he couldn't help but press his muzzle against your cunt and take a deep inhale, chuffing as your slick coated his nose and caught in his fur before his tongue came out again to take a wide swipe from asshole to mound.
“There you go,” you praised as his licks became more focused, lapping at the dripping honey at your entrance and rolling his tongue over your clit, “that feels nice Bepo. Your tongue feels so nice and rough against my pussy, why don't you suck on the bump part a little?”
You moaned as he enthusiastically followed your guidance, focusing harsh sucks and flicks of his tongue against your clit while your hands buried in the thick fur on top of his head. “So good,” you moaned, “you can- hnng- you can put your tongue inside me if you want”
His eyes were dark and hungry as he looked up at you, tongue dragging down to where he'd seen you finger yourself and pushing the wet appendage in, ignoring the resistance as he bullied the thick muscle inside you. You screamed but the way you held his head against your cunt told him it wasn't a pained scream, so he started licking at your inner walls, chuffing and growling deep in his chest as he drank up all of your slick greedily, making messy and inexperienced motions until he accidentally brushed against your g-spot and felt your entire body tense. He zeroed in on it instinctively, making you moan and writhe as he abused it with his tongue, until you pulled his fur hard and came without warning on his tongue. His eyes widened as he felt the gushing release and he lapped it up greedily, making you squirm at the overstimulation, unable to keep yourself upright anymore as you twitched helplessly against the bed until he was satisfied he'd drunk up everything you had to offer.
His instincts were in full play now, and you could smell his precum as his cock unsheathed again, standing tall over you in a way that made you shiver at just how big he was. He looked entirely the dangerous predator that he was, that shy little polar bear you met earlier now entirely gone. Knowing exactly what he wanted, you rolled over and put your ass in the air, tail twitching invitingly. He wasted no time in draping himself over your back, nipping at your neck and making deep growls that vibrated through your chest as he gripped your thighs and rut his hips towards you. As soon as his cock made contact with your dripping pussy he was burying himself to the hilt, the air knocked out of you as he immediately began a merciless pace as his instincts clawed at him to breed you.
He continued to nuzzle and nip at you as he slammed into your much smaller body, your pussy stinging from the sudden stretch before it melted to pure pleasure, moaning and clawing at the sheets below you, making tears in the fabric and mattress; you definitely weren't getting your deposit back. Fucking worth it though, as the polar bear slammed into you on pure instinct, his motions sloppy and aggressive with no real goal other than cumming inside you. He didn't even register as your cunt clamped down around him and you went silent from the intense pleasure as you came hard on his cock, letting out a long relieved moan as your body relaxed again, Bepo still slamming into you relentlessly and overstimulating you. All you could do was whine helplessly as he used your body, until his claws sunk into your hips, blood drops matting the fur as he stilled inside you, teeth breezing against your shoulder as he huffed and filled you with his seed.
It took a lot of gentle convincing to get him to roll to his side instead of crushing you, his cock still inside you, the bone keeping him erect and plugging you to keep is cum deep inside your cunt as he slowly came back to reality. “Ah, sorry, sorry,” he mumbled against your back, breath tickling your fur. “I can't- I don't wanna-”
“It's okay, my sweet snowbear,” you took his paw and curled your fingers between his digits, holding it against your chest, your abdomen visibly bulging from his cock still deep inside you. “You don't have to move, you're just doing what your instincts want you to. It's always like this the first few times for minks, just do what feels right, kay?”
“Okay, sorry,” he mumbled, nuzzling against your back, “did I do good?”
“Yes baby, you did good,” you smiled, bringing his paw to your mouth to kiss it. “So good,” you purred, a contented chuffing coming from the bear behind you.

Hey snail! Could you give me a little preview or synopsis of Bepo's birthday fanfic? I'm really curious >///<
Hi Naityelen! Here's my summary for the Bepo fic:
Synopsis: After a night docked at port ends up as an impromptu bonfire night with your crew, the courage to confess your feelings for Bepo finally finds you. The shock of the confession hits him like a tidal wave, leaving him in a stunned silence that you take as rejection. While making your way back home to the Polar Tang, a paw captures your hand and halts you in place with a confession of his own attached in tow.
I just want to spend some time on this one. I've never written for Bepo before, aside from little bits of him in Law's exhibitionism fic - which was very good fun. He's just beautiful and I adore him. Needs his own fic from me.
I should write him some kisses first to get into the way I want to read him. He deserves so much more love. Because just:
Look at him.

Out in the Open
Law x reader (she/her) ft. Heart Pirates
Part of the Polar Tang Chronicles but can be read as a standalone! (They're all just various one-shots featuring the Reader, Law, and the Heart Pirates)
Summary: Your crew discovered that you and Law are closer than you seemed when the two of you stumbled out disheveled of his quarters one morning due to the ship’s alarm. After the battle, Law left, leaving you to endure the crew’s relentless teasing—which eventually escalated a bit too far.
Tags: suggestive, obvious mentions of sex (but no smut), nudity, hickies mentioned, swearing, teasing, kinda crack, a bit angsty
Words: 5.6k
Notes: I had a lot of fun writing that one! I considered using it for a longer fanfic, but the one I’m currently working on (which will take a while to complete) doesn’t quite match this vibe. Still, I’m thinking about doing more one-shots with this kind of atmosphere—just some daily life moments with Reader, Law, and the Heart Pirates. I already have outlines for two: one where Penguin and Shachi accidentally walk in on Reader and Law, and another where Reader gets tipsy with Ikakku (I'm more than open to your suggestions)
English is not my first language

You woke up, nestled under the covers and enjoying a morning of quiet bliss. You snuggled closer to the warm body next to you. Law.
“Morning,” he rasped, kissing your collarbone tenderly.
You hummed happily in response, exposing your neck to him, and he quickly took advantage and started putting his lips all over it. His hands moved to explore your naked skin slowly. You tilted your head to capture his lips in a gentle kiss. You both made out lazily, taking your time to relish one another. Soon the room was filled with the sounds of quiet moans and sighs, passion building with every touch. Lost in the sensations, you were completely oblivious to the world outside your small haven.
Then, the sudden blaring of the alarm shattered the peaceful atmosphere like glass. You both jolted upright, the reality of the situation crashing down on you like a bucket of cold water. The moment of intimacy was gone, replaced by an urgent need to spring into action.
You and Law hurried out of the captain's lodgings, your attires randomly assembled of whatever clothes had been within reach. You couldn't take the time to look presentable; the ship's alarm was a call to action, and you had to respond quickly.
As you stepped into the hallway, Law's expression was grim; his mind already focused on the impending danger. You took your eyes from him, and you regretted it immediately as you found yourself face to face with a few of the crew members. Their gazes flicked between Law and you, taking in your disheveled state, and a murmur of surprise and recognition rippled through the group.
Law clenched his jaw, cursing silently as he realized your secret was out. With a stern glare, he stepped forward, taking charge of the situation. “Alright, listen up! We don't have time to waste ogling. We've got a dangerous situation on our hands, and we need to spring into action now.”
Law's voice cut through the commotion, commanding and resolute, as he issued orders to prepare for battle. The air was charged with urgency as the submarine broke the surface, and without hesitation, you leapt onto the deck alongside your crewmates.
As the ships closed in, the sounds of battle began to swell. The creak of wood, the sharp clang of blades, and the guttural cries of the enemy pirates filled the air. They swarmed over the rails, swords, and other weapons gleaming as they poured onto the deck.
Law stood at the helm, calm and focused, his stern gaze tracking every movement below. You stood beside him, gripping your weapon tightly, a determined edge in your eyes. For a brief moment, his eyes flicked to yours.
“Be careful.”
“You too.”
With that, you plunged into the chaos.
The Heart Pirates fought with fierce determination, refusing to give an inch to the invaders. Swords clashed, bodies collided, and the deck became a storm of violence. Law, as always, took the lead, enforcing his Devil Fruit power and cutting through the most dangerous foes with a precision that left no room for error.
By the time the battle ended, the enemy was in full retreat, their ship disappearing over the horizon. Slowly, the tension on the deck eased, and cheers broke out. The crew’s voices rose together, celebrating their victory as they let the weight of the battle fall away.
“You okay?” Law asked softly, standing next to you.
“Yeah,” you replied, a weary smile curving on your lips. “You?”
“I'm… fine,” He reached out a hand, gently brushing a stray strand of hair away from your face. “You fought well,” he murmured quietly, his eyes searching yours.
Law suddenly became aware of the crew's gazes, noticing the smirks and winks they were shooting in your direction. He shifted uncomfortably, his face flushing a subtle shade of pink. He quickly stood back to address the crew.
“Alright, everyone. You did well,” Law said, his voice firm and commanding once more. “Let's get this mess cleaned up, and everyone back to their duties.” And just like that, he turned on his heel and walked away.
You were used to the attention and the rumors that swirled about Law and you, but being caught in a compromising position earlier still made you feel awkward and exposed. You felt a pang of irritation at Law's sudden departure. You understood his need for privacy, but it still stung a little that he had left you there to deal with the crew's prodding alone.
“So... how do you feel about the captain?” Shachi asked with a smirk.
“That he is being an ass,” you muttered angrily, starting to clean up, hoping it would allow you to leave soon.
The crewmates snickered at your insult.
“Damn,” Penguin remarked with a grin. “It's the first time I've heard someone call the captain an ass and live to tell the tale.”
“I guess being the captain’s lover has its perks. You can get away with more than most.”
You bristled at that comment. Law was a strict captain, and you knew that others respected him. Being able to call him an 'ass' and getting away with it did feel satisfying, but you certainly didn’t appreciate the implication that whatever you had with Law granted you special privileges.
You felt exhausted, and you didn't have the energy to argue with them. Instead, you let out a weary sigh, your shoulders slumping slightly as you snapped back at the crew member who had spoken. “Can you just shut up and do your job?” You felt hot and embarrassed as you unzipped your hoodie a bit, looking around to busy yourself with something.
The crew members snickered at your response, clearly enjoying the chance to tease even more.
“Oh, is that something you told the captain this morning, too?” someone jibed,
Your frustration boiled to the surface. “You guys suck,”
But as soon as the words left your mouth, Penguin quipped back, “Not as good as the captain on your neck this morning.”
You froze, your eyes widening in shock, and your hand instinctively reached up to touch your neck, where Law had indeed spent a lot of time just this morning. You hadn't even had a chance to look in the mirror yet, and now you realize that unzipping your hoodie, or actually Law hoodie, which you noted with a mental curse now, was a wrong move.
Ikkaku cast you a sympathetic glance. “Yeah, we can see those hickies,” she noted with a wry smile.
Shachi immediately added. “We would have to be damn blind not to notice them.”
Penguin grinned cheekily and chimed in. “Who knew Captain was such a sucker,”
The crew members continued their teasing, their jokes, and comments, escalating with every word. You felt as if you were drowning in a sea of ribbing, and you just couldn't take it any longer. You spun around and stalked away, leaving the laughing crew behind.
As you stormed off, you overheard a puzzled Bepo comment, “I don't know why everyone is making a big deal out of this. She's been staying with the captain for months now.”
The crew's confusion only seemed to grow, and the explanation fell into a series of muttered exchanges.
“What?!”
“You didn't know that?”
“None of us did!”
You sought sanctuary in your and Ikkaku's room, isolating yourself from the rest of the crew for the remainder of the day. Various crew members came by, attempting to apologize through the door, but you refused to speak to anyone but Ikkaku.
You heard their voices through the door, their tones ranging from apologetic to pleading.
“Oh, come on, we were just teasing.”
“We're happy for you, really.”
“Come out, will you?”
“We're sorry, okay?”
You were not the only one avoiding everyone. Law was also absent, and nobody managed to catch a glimpse of him. The crew was left wondering how to mend the situation, and after a while, they came to a consensus. Someone needed to speak to Law and try to smooth things over.
And that's how Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin, Law's longest serving crewmates, and closest friends, found themselves standing outside his room. Summoning his courage, Bepo finally raised a trembling paw and struck the door with a soft, tentative knock.
There was a pause before Law's voice echoed through, a grumpy and dismissive, “I'm busy.”
The trio exchanged nervous glances, their resolve faltering for only a moment before Bepo mustered his courage once more. “We need to talk to you, Captain. It's important.”
Another moment of silence followed, and then they heard Law's resigned grunt. “Fine. Come in.”
They pushed open the door cautiously, their gazes darting nervously around the room. Law leaned back in his chair, one eyebrow raised in mild irritation. “Everything alright?”
Penguin spoke up hesitantly. “No, not really,” he began. “I mean, the ship is fine, and we're not being attacked, but there's something else…”
“What? Just say it.”
Shachi rolled his eyes. “Come on, Captain, we need to talk about what happened this morning.”
Law immediately rejected the notion. “No, we don't,” he said, his shoulders tensing, his tone leaving no room for argument.
“Yes, we do, and you're gonna listen to us.” Undeterred by Law's expression, he continued, “You shouldn't have just left her alone with us after a fight.”
Law remained impassive, his voice cool and matter-of-fact. “I had to take care of something, and I didn't think I was needed there,” he reiterated. “You guys were supposed to clean, and I had other matters to attend to.”
Penguin chimed in, his expression slightly sheepish. “Yeah, you were…You left after we all knew what happened in the morning, so of course we turned to her…We teased her, and I guess we took it a bit too far.”
Law clenched his jaw, his annoyance growing with each passing second. He didn't need a lecture on how to handle his life, and he definitely didn't appreciate his crew sticking their noses in his business.
But the trio wasn't finished yet. Bepo's worried gaze met Law's, his tone earnest as he added, “She didn't take it well, Captain. She locked herself in her room.”
Law's voice remained steady, feigning indifference as he asked, “So you want me to punish her for skipping out on her chores?”
Gasps of disbelief erupted from the trio.
“What, no!” Shachi barked. “Are you insane?”
“Yeah! What is wrong with you?” Penguin added, his tone incredulous.
Bepo took a deep breath, trying to reason. “You need to talk to her, Captain. And to us—your crew.”
Law's reply was curt and final. “It’s a private matter.”
Penguin wasn’t having it. “No, it’s not. Not anymore. But the crew’s okay with that—we’ve talked about it.”
Shachi nodded, his tone firm. “More than fine with it. We know you’ve been worried about what we’d think. But here’s the thing: we’re happy.”
“Yeah,” Penguin chimed in. “You’ve been dancing around each other for too long.”
“And honestly? It was getting annoying,” Shachi added.
Bepo’s voice softened, but his words carried weight. “We want you to know we support you, Captain.”
Law blinked, their bluntness catching him off guard. Despite their sincerity, he still hesitated. “Is that so?”
The trio nodded in unison, their expressions hopeful.
Shachi stepped forward, crossing his arms as he locked eyes with Law. “Well, it needed to be said,” he stated firmly. “We know how you are, Captain. You could sit here for weeks if we let you. But we can’t let her suffer any longer.”
Law repeated, almost incredulously, “Suffer?”
Shachi shrugged apologetically. “We couldn’t speak to her personally,” he admitted, glancing toward the others. “But Ikkaku told us she’s obviously humiliated—not just by us, but by you, too.”
“You just left her there,” Penguin added, his tone tinged with guilt as he stepped closer. “And you haven’t spoken to her since. She thinks you’re ashamed of—”
“Of course I’m ashamed,” Law interrupted sharply, sitting forward as his jaw tightened. “That should have never happened. You shouldn’t have seen us like that.” His tone was clipped, frustration dominating his words as he averted his gaze.
Penguin picked up his sentence. “No, she thinks you are ashamed of her,” he clarified, his voice trailing off awkwardly.
Shachi frowned, his usually lighthearted expression turning uncharacteristically serious. “Ikkaku said she thinks she was forcing herself on you. That you only gave in because you were lonely,” he explained, his voice lowering. “And now everyone knows, and she feels embarrassed and pitiful.”
Law’s chair scraped slightly as he pushed back, his voice rising in outrage. “What? That’s absurd!” he exclaimed, shaking his head. His clenched fists rested on the armrests, knuckles whitening as he struggled to contain his mounting exasperation. The thought of you feeling that way—that you thought he was ashamed of you—sent a sharp pang through his chest.
“Yeah, we figured as much,” Penguin said, cutting through the tension. “But she doesn’t know that, Captain. You need to remind her she’s more than that.”
Shachi leaned forward, his tone pressing yet sincere. “She is more, right, Captain?”
Bepo’s soft, worried voice followed, his eyes searching Law’s face. “You did tell her, didn’t you? That she’s more?”
The room fell deathly quiet, the three of them staring at Law, waiting for a response. He sat frozen, his mind racing with thoughts and emotions he couldn’t quite organize. A subtle tremor ran through his hand as he clenched and unclenched his fist.
Shachi's voice cut through the silence, his tone firm and insistent. “You're awful,” he said bluntly. “You need to tell her.”
“I can't,” Law said, looking away.
“Why not?”
Law’s lips parted, and for a moment, he hesitated. When he finally spoke, his voice was quiet but raw, laced with an uncharacteristic vulnerability. “Because... I can’t lose her.”
The words lingered in the air, a heavy confession that seemed to sap the strength from him. His crewmates stood still, the weight of the admission sinking in. They had known Law for years, long enough to understand the fear buried beneath his stoic exterior. This wasn’t just about pride or embarrassment. This was about the scars of loss he carried, the pain he feared reliving.
After a brief pause, Penguin spoke up. “Well, we can't promise you that,” he stated, his words heavy with the acknowledgment of the uncertainty of the future.
Shachi nodded, his expression softening. “But she doesn’t want to leave you, Captain. That much we’re sure of.”
Bepo added, his voice solemn yet earnest, “And besides, she always says that life is a fucking nightmare, full of pain, and that you never know when you're going to die, so you should cling to every single small moment of happiness.”
Shachi and Penguin turned to Bepo, their mouths falling open in shock. Penguin gawked at him. “Wow, Bepo,” he said, his voice tinged with disbelief. “I’ve known you forever, but I’ve never heard you swear.”
Bepo’s face flushed under the sudden attention. “I was quoting!” he stammered, his ears flicking nervously. “The point is, if you won’t listen to us, maybe you should listen to her. You deserve some happiness too, Captain,” he finished, his eyes locking with Law’s.
Law's expression eased as he heard Bepo's words. The crew's support, combined with the reminder that your wisdom echoed their sentiment, struck a chord within him. He couldn't deny the truth in their words, even if fear still held him back.
The silence stretched once more, thick with emotion. Finally, Penguin broke it hesitantly. “Um, Captain?”
Law straightened, his usual composure returning. “There will be an obligatory meeting in two hours,” he said, his voice firm and commanding once more.
Bepo tilted his head, a flicker of doubt crossing his face. “Everyone?” he asked tentatively, unsure if Law meant to include you.
Law’s reply was curt and resolute. “Yes. Everyone. Now go.”
The crew spread the word about the meeting, making their way to the girls' dormitory. Shachi rapped on the door, and moments later, Ikkaku appeared, leaning casually against the doorframe.
“The Captain called for an obligatory meeting,” Shachi informed her. “Everyone needs to attend.” He craned his neck slightly, calling out into the room, “That means you too.”
From within, your voice drifted toward them, muffled but tinged with resignation. “Yeah, yeah, I figured.”
Ikkaku gave a short nod and closed the door with a soft click. Turning toward you, she crossed her arms and regarded you thoughtfully. “You should shower first,” she suggested gently.
Sprawled across your bed, you rolled your eyes, a wry smirk tugging at your lips. “Thanks, Ikka,” you quipped with playful sarcasm. “You really know how to make a girl feel special.”
Despite the jest, a flicker of vulnerability lingered in your eyes, betraying the weight of the upcoming meeting and the emotional turmoil still churning beneath the surface.
Taking Ikkaku’s advice, you trudged to the bathroom and showered, the hot water doing little to wash away your apprehension. When you returned to the room, your skin still damp and your hair wet, you began to change.
You couldn't help but notice Ikkaku’s gaze lingering on you. Sharing a room—and a shower room—meant you were no stranger to Ikkaku’s teasing observations, but this time, her stare felt particularly pointed.
You raised an eyebrow, turning to face her. “Okay, I know you’ve said my boobs are awesome, but the staring’s a bit much, don’t you think?” you remarked, your voice dripping with sass as you shot her a look.
Unfazed, Ikkaku smirked, leaning back against the wall with casual ease. “Sorry,” she said, her tone laced with amusement. “I was just curious to see how far those hickeys go.”
You froze, the memories of your night—and morning—with Law surfaced unbidden, leaving you momentarily speechless.
“Don’t you have something better to do than ogling me?” you shot back, your voice flustered but defiant as you busied yourself with brushing your hair.
Ikkaku’s grin widened as she shrugged nonchalantly. “Not really,” she admitted. “Besides, your face right now? Totally worth it.”
Slowly, with reluctant resolve, you pulled away the towel, letting it fall to the side. The marks Law had left on your skin—bold, unmistakable—were now fully exposed. Ikkaku’s grin widened, her eyes shamelessly scanning the array of hickeys decorating your breasts and stomach.
“Wow,” she remarked with a teasing lilt, humor sparkling in her gaze. “Someone likes to sign their work.”
Despite the wave of mortification, a small smirk crept to your lips. There was something strangely endearing about her playful commentary, even if it only added to your flustered state.
You turned away and began dressing, methodically slipping on your bra before pulling a tank top over your head and following it with your uniform. Your movements were deliberate, almost mechanical, as though each action was part of a ritual to compose yourself. Hands trembling slightly, you reached for the zipper of your uniform and drew it up all the way to your neck—a rare act of modesty for you.
With the uniform now in place, you grabbed a bottle of concealer from the desk and leaned toward the small mirror affixed to the wall. Your eyes narrowed in concentration as you dabbed and blended the makeup over the hickeys that still were visible on your neck, working meticulously to erase any evidence of your time with Law.
Behind you, Ikkaku’s grin remained fixed. Her gaze was both amused and curious as she watched you work. “So, is he good?” she asked bluntly.
The question caught you off guard, your eyes widening in surprise as you glanced at her through the mirror. “Oh, come on,” she added before you could respond, rolling her eyes dramatically. “We’ve been pretending I didn’t know for months. At least give me something.”
A groan escaped you as you turned to face her, the reluctance plain in your posture. Yet, under her persistent gaze, you relented. “Fine, he’s… amazing,” you admitted, your voice softening. “I know, I know—you’ll say I’m biased, but he really is. Or it really is,” you added, a faint smile tugging at the corners of your lips as the memory resurfaced. “I never knew sex could be that good.”
Your cheeks flushed anew as the words left your lips, the vivid recollection making it impossible to hide your emotions. Ikkaku raised a brow, her interest clearly piqued by your admission.
“You’ve had sex with other people before, though,” she pointed out, her voice tinged with curiosity.
You nodded, your expression turning thoughtful. “Yeah, and it was nothing compared to that.”
Ikkaku tilted her head slightly, a flicker of contemplation crossing her face before she spoke again. “It was good, or good because it was him?”
Your breath hitched slightly at her question, the double meaning not lost on you. The intensity of your feelings threatened to bubble to the surface, but you kept your composure. After a brief pause, you answered. “Both,” you confessed, the honesty in your words both exhilarating and terrifying. “It was good, and it was good because it was him.”
“Well, I’m glad for you.”
You sighed, shaking your head slightly, your smile fading. “Yeah, well, that doesn’t matter now.”
“Why not?” she asked, leaning forward slightly.
Your lips pressed into a thin line. “Because, obviously, it won’t be happening anymore,” you replied flatly, your tone resigned, though a flicker of sadness betrayed you.
“You can’t know that.”
You scoffed, shooting her a skeptical look. “Oh, I think I know,” you muttered, the bitterness of your words undercut by the vulnerability in your eyes.
“No,” she said again. “You don’t know that. You can’t know that.”
A lump formed in your throat as her words lingered in the air. You tried to brush them off, letting out a heavy sigh. “I… Let’s just get to this meeting,” you murmured, the finality in your tone signaling an end to the conversation.
Law arrived, his commanding presence as steady as ever, and began by addressing the crew in his usual manner. He outlined the agenda for their imminent arrival on the island, detailing their expected conduct and assigning responsibilities with precise efficiency.
Despite the focus on practical matters, an undercurrent of tension lingers in the air. You sat among the crew, listening with a stoic expression, but your mind reeled with the weight of recent events. The words spoken seem distant, their meanings muted by the emotional turmoil swirling within you. Law’s voice remained firm and unyielding, yet there was a subtle flicker of concern in his eyes each time his gaze landed on you.
After finishing the official agenda, Law cleared his throat, his posture shifting slightly. “There’s another matter we need to discuss,” he stated.
Your body tensed as the weight of his announcement settled over the room. The earlier incident—he’s going to talk about it. Your pulse quickened, the anticipation prickling your skin as you wondered what he'd say and how it would alter the fragile balance you felt.
As the eyes of your crewmates subtly shifted toward you, the sensation of being exposed made you want to disappear. Their curiosity, though unspoken, was palpable. Only Law refrained from looking your way, his avoidance making you wonder if it’s deliberate.
Finally, he spoke, “I was informed by Shachi, Bepo, and Penguin that there are no objections to this… relationship.” His pause is brief but meaningful, the word relationship hanging in the air. For a moment, he looked at you before continuing. “Is that correct?”
The crew’s response was instantaneous and resounding.
“Not at all!”
“We’re all happy for you!”
“It should have happened sooner!”
“We’re more than fine with it!”
You leaned closer to Ikkaku and whispered. “Did he just say relationship, or am I delusional?”
Ikkaku chuckled softly. “You heard him right,” she confirmed.
The reality of the moment began to sink in, the word relationship replaying in your mind. It felt surreal to hear Law speak of your connection so openly. Your heart fluttered, caught between happiness and nervousness as you processed this unexpected declaration.
Relationship. Did he just make it official—without asking you first? You’d expect irritation, but instead, you felt a surprising sense of ease. When his gaze met yours again, a flicker of nervousness in his expression, you offered him a small smile and nod. His shoulders relaxed, and a faint, fleeting smile crossed his face before he regained his usual composure.
Law’s commanding voice broke the moment. “Alright, that’s enough,” he said, addressing the crew. “Don’t go overboard with it. If any concerns arise, come to me directly.”
He paused, then added with authority, “This is a private matter, and it will remain that way. Don’t get too curious, and no discussions about it outside this ship. Understood?”
Everyone nodded. You joined them in silent acknowledgment, feeling a wave of relief at the boundaries Law set.
With a touch of humor, he continued, “I’d also like to forbid all talks on the ship, but I don’t believe in miracles.”
The crew erupted in light laughter, the mood easing slightly with his words.
“Now, I’ve heard that instead of focusing on cleaning as I directed, some of you were too busy gossiping and fooling around. As punishment, everyone will be cleaning the storage room.”
A collective groan rose from the crew, though none dared protest. Law had chosen this task deliberately, knowing it needed to be done and that no one would volunteer.
Once the commotion died down, Law turned to you. His tone remained firm and impartial. “Besides you. But for missing work earlier, you’ll take an extra shift cleaning the kitchen.”
Cleaning the kitchen was your least favorite task, and everyone on the ship knew it. Yet, you couldn't bring yourself to feel resentment. Law was fair; everyone else faced consequences for missed duties, and he was showing you no favoritism. The consistency in his decisions left you feeling unexpectedly grateful.
With the meeting concluded, Law’s voice rang out one final directive. “That’s all. Everyone, return to your tasks.”
Usually, he would leave immediately, but this time, he lingered. His gaze scanned the room, ensuring no one had the chance to approach you as the crew dispersed.
As you turned to leave, you felt the light pressure of a hand on your shoulder. Startled, you glanced back to find Law standing close. His voice dropped to a quiet murmur, just for you. “Come to me when you’re done. We need to talk.”
You arrived at Law's door later, your heart beating slightly faster in anticipation of the conversation ahead. Knocking gently, you heard his voice inviting you in. You entered the room and took your usual seat across from him, settling into the chair as you took a moment to compose yourself.
“I can’t believe you did that,” you said, referring to Law’s earlier declaration at the meeting.
Law smiled softly, a rare expression reserved just for you. “I’m sorry I didn’t do it sooner,” he replied apologetically. He paused before asking, “Are you okay with it?”
Your heart raced at his apology, the words sending a flutter through your chest. Taking a deep breath, you gathered your thoughts and responded, “I’m… surprised.” You paused for a moment, mustering the courage to voice your true feelings. “But… yes, I’m okay with it. More than okay.”
Law’s eyes locked onto yours, and you could see that your words calmed him. Your words—more than okay—settled the doubts that had crept into his mind. He let out a small sigh, the tension leaving his body.
Switching to a lighthearted tone, you added with a playful pout, “I’m still a little mad, you know. For leaving me there like that.”
Law’s response was matter-of-fact, his voice composed. “I know. I didn’t do it intentionally. I just didn’t see the point of sticking around.” There was a hint of nonchalance as he added, “I got injured a bit during the battle—didn’t want anyone making a fuss over me.”
Your eyes widened in disbelief, anger, and concern flooding you. “Law!”
He chuckled lightly, his tone soothing as he hastened to reassure you. “I’m fine, I am. I swear.”
Crossing your arms, you murmured, “You better be.” Sighing in exasperation, you scolded him. “You should’ve told me.”
“You weren’t visiting me…”
“I didn’t think you wanted me to…”
The room fell silent, the weight of your words sinking in. Law studied your face, the truth behind your statement hitting him. He realized how his actions might have led you to that conclusion, and guilt welled up inside him. His voice was quiet as he replied, “You were wrong.”
“Well, how was I supposed to know that?”
Law sighed, running a hand through his hair, a gesture of frustration. “I should’ve been clearer,” he admitted, his tone tinged with regret. “I shouldn’t have left you hanging like that.” He paused, considering his next words. “I didn’t want anyone fussing over me, especially not you. I didn’t want you to worry…”
“You can’t just avoid everyone when you’re injured. Especially not me. I… I care about you, you know that.”
“I know, I know,” he conceded, “I just… I didn’t want to be a burden. And it wasn’t anything serious.”
“You’re not a burden. You could never be a burden to me.” Leaning forward, you held his gaze. “Even if it wasn’t serious, you should’ve told me.”
“I probably would’ve told you if you’d visited me. You know, I usually tell you everything. If you’d come to check on me, I would’ve spoken up eventually.”
“You’re impossible sometimes, you know that?” you said, though there was no real anger in your voice. You sighed. “You shouldn’t have left me there with the crew after they found out about us. I… I thought you were ashamed of me, that I was just some dirty little secret…”
“No. I’m not ashamed of you, not at all.” Meeting your gaze, he continued firmly, “You’re more than that. You’re…” He faltered, struggling with the words he wasn’t used to saying.
“You don’t have to say anything.” Seeing his struggle, you gently reassured him. “I suppose that means we’re official now, huh?” you asked, a shy smile tugging at your lips.
“I suppose we are,” he replied, a tender edge in his voice. “I hope you’re still comfortable with that.”
“Of course I am. I’ve wanted this for a long time.”
Law's heart felt lighter at your words. He hadn't realized how much he needed to hear you say that. “Good,” he said simply, a rare smile playing on his lips. “Because I have too.” Law's smile softened, and a more somber expression settled on his face. “It's… it's not going to be easy,” he admitted quietly. “You know that, right?”
You nodded, your expression serious as well. You understood the challenges that came with a relationship, especially in your unconventional circumstances. “I know,”
“I'm not… going to be easy.”
You reached out and gently laid your hand on top of his on the desk. “I know that too.” You laced your fingers with his, stroking his thumb softly. “Law, I'm not going into this blindly. I… I'm just as scared as you are.”
As Law started to object, you stopped him with a determined look. “No, don't give me that look. You're emotionally challenged, and we live in a shitty world. Of course, you're scared. So am I.”
Law fell silent, his eyes locking onto yours as he absorbed your words. He hadn't expected you to acknowledge his fears so bluntly—most people just assumed he didn't have any. Yet here you were, acknowledging them and admitting to sharing similar feelings. “You're incredible, you know that?” he murmured.
Your lips curled into a small, wry smile. You were flattered by his words, but you also knew him well enough to see the lingering hint of disbelief in his eyes. “I have my moments,” you replied lightly, your tone filled with a hint of humor. “But I mean what I said. I know this won't be easy, and I'm scared too. But… I want this. With you.”
“I am a broken man,” he confessed, his tone filled with an undercurrent of regret and a hint of shame.
Your gaze didn't waver. “And I won't fix you,” you said quietly. “And I am a broken woman, and you won't fix me either. But… maybe,” your voice softened. “Maybe… the broken pieces… just fit together, you know?”
Law's breath hitched in his throat at your words. He felt the truth of your statement deep within, a part of him yearning to believe it. But his logical mind reminded him of the harsh realities of your lives. Yet, something about your words, your touch, made him want to believe it all the same. “Broken pieces…” he mused quietly, a hint of both longing and skepticism in his voice.
“Yes, broken pieces,” you reiterate gently. “Sometimes, the unique things are created from broken pieces that just… fit.”
Law's gaze flicked down to your joined hands, the sight of your touch against his skin grounding him. He took a slow, deep breath, your words sinking into his heart, chipping away at his usual skepticism. “Maybe you're right,” he murmured, his voice low and tinged with a faint hint of wonder. “Maybe… maybe the broken pieces do fit together in ways that make something… significant.”

GN! Reader x Law
Law gets wasted and he's an affectionate mess
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It was rare indeed, to see Law truly let loose.
Maybe it was the recent victory over Kaido that he’d been stressing for God knows how long, or maybe it was just the general good atmosphere of all their crews around them drinking happily and socializing that made him loosen up. Regardless, you were surprised for when the first time, Law was very drunk.
You had had a few drinks but were still clear headed enough, laying your head on Law’s shoulder as the others rejoiced around you. Law immediately grasped your hand under the table, fingers eagerly rubbing against yours and you were surprised at his openness. Law was usually very conservative about his affection, worrying about whether anyone saw, especially his own crew. In the rare instances they did witness a soft moment, Law had the habit of pulling his hat low over his red face and storming off before they could say anything. You couldn’t lie though, seeing Law a little more open and daring sent a warmth through you.
He rested his head atop yours on his shoulder, cuddling in close and you were aware of the catcalls that followed the action. You didn’t care, you were too lost feeling his strong body against you. It felt like it had been far too long since you two were able to cuddle and touch like this.
Penguin shouted forth, “Give them a kiss!”
And soon other members of the crew had joined the chant, and you felt your face heat up. You two were always conservative in front of others, but to your shock, Law grabbed your face in both hands and kissed you. It wasn’t so much a kiss as a smashing of lips together, but it was enough to make your face light up. You could hear the cheers in the background as you pulled back, a hand to your mouth as Law stared back at you with heavy lidded eyes.
He tried to press into your face again but your own awareness of the crew around you made you embarrassed and you quickly redirected him to rest against the crook of your neck. The others couldn’t see now but you were aware of the hot open-mouthed kisses and laving of tongue that Law was pressing against the skin of your neck and you put a hand to the back of his head to block any curious onlookers as your tried, unsuccessfully, to discreetly pry him off. His hands groped at your sides as his face pulled back to stare heavily at you.
“Let’s say we take this somewhere more private?” he purred against you. You were about to stand when Law pulled his hand up in a familiar gesture and blue light circled the room.
“Shambles”
You braced yourself, expecting to find yourself now in the captain’s quarters but when you opened your eyes nothing had changed, you were both still sitting amongst the party.
“Fuck!”
You saw Shachi sputtering with beer dripping down his naked head, apparently Law had switched his hat with someone’s drink.
The captain narrowed his eyes in focus, now realizing what he’d done, “Wait shit let me try that again.”
Another flash of blue and this time Bepo ended up on the table where a bowl of chips had previously been. His flailing had sent several glasses and food spilling across the table as the others voiced their displeasure at the poor bear.
“I’m sorry!” he managed to get himself back on the floor with the others, Ikkaku slapping his back and laughing.
Law stared at his hand now, as though looking at a faulty gadget, and readied his fingers again before you clapped your hands over his own to stop him from causing any more chaos.
“How about we just sit here okay baby?”
The pet name seemed to work as he dissolved into a silly smile, and you bit back a laugh at how adorable he looked. His face fell forward and planted against you in another messy smash of lips.
“Mmkay,” you could feel him mumble against your mouth. You pulled his head back, keeping it cradled in your hands, looking around to see if anyone had seen the second kiss, but most were still ribbing Bepo good naturedly for nearly breaking the table supplying him with beer all the while. You settled back in your seat, raising the drink to your lips and felt Law drop his head onto your shoulder. Giving his scalp an affectionate rub, you drank and talked with the others, regaling them with details of your fights as they supplied their own stories in return. All the while Law kept his head silently planted against you, and you could feel his eyes boring into you the entire time. Penguin finally snickered and nudged Shachi in the ribs.
“Look at captain.”
The two dissolved into giggles seeing Law staring puppy eyed up into your eyes, a hopeless grin on his face. You finally met his gaze and couldn’t suppress the smile that crawled up your lips.
“Law you’re staring at me.”
He hummed in response, nuzzling his cheek against you, eyes never leaving you, “You’re so pretty you know that?” he slurred.
His fingers came up to trace along your features, fumbling a bit at first before resting on your cheek, “Such perfect anatomical structure…”
You could hear Penguin and Shachi practically choke with laughter.
“Thank you…?” You couldn’t help smiling at the silliness of your boyfriend.
Law hummed, he lifted his head and took your face between his hands, gently squishing your cheeks, “How did I get such a beautiful partner?”
Penguin and Shachi were now in full throes of laughter. Your eyes shot from them back to Law, with a silly grin plastered on his face. Your hands clasped his gently to remove them from your cheeks, fighting the blush that was spreading across your face.
“I think you’ve had enough to drink,” you murmured.
Law held your gaze, eyes boring deep into yours until suddenly his head fell forward, planting right into your chest, hands wrapped around you tightly. It only took seconds until you heard soft snores coming from him.
You sighed, “Okay, I think it’s time for bed.”
Catcalls followed the comment as you slowly helped Law to his feet, his body leaning heavily against you all the while. Once you got him upright, his face dug into the crook of your neck, nuzzling the skin as his hands played across your waist. More catcalls followed at the captain’s actions and you felt yourself flush. You quickly got his arm around your shoulder, letting him lean against you as you walked him back to his private quarters. After nearly stumbling through the hallway you managed to get inside the room with Law in one piece. You let go of his body, left him standing for a moment as you started pulling back the sheets and covers of the bed.
“Okay Law, come here,” you slapped the mattress.
Law apparently took this to mean something else entirely, his eyes darkening with a sly smile across his face as he staggered forward. He nearly tripped over himself but you caught him in your arms as he straightened out.
“You come here,” he growled in what he must have thought was a seductive tone closing the distance between you. His hands explored up and down your sides as his lips met yours once more, pressing firmly. Law was leaning with most of his weight against you and you quickly maneuvered the two of you toward the bed, thumping onto the mattress with an audible creak. Law quickly crawled up into your lap, hands planting on either side of your head as he reconnected lips, tongue quickly working its way into your mouth. You were wide eyed for a moment, but fell easily into the kiss, sloppy as it was, your own hands trailing up and down his back.
Breaking from the kiss, Law’s flushed face practically rubbing against your own he murmured in a slur, “God you don’t even know how sexy you are…” His face dug into the crook of your neck, placing wet suckling kisses against your skin, “I just think about you all the time…”
You smiled, guiding Laws head back up to face you, a wonderfully content smile on his face as you placed a peck against his lips.
“You’re awfully affectionate when you’re drunk.”
His sappy grin widened, “I can’t help myself around you.”
Suddenly Law flopped onto the bed, turning to rest on his back as he reached his arms out for you to join. You sighed, pulling off your shoes and Law’s own before nestling against him. He hugged you against him, nuzzling his face against your hair as you settled together with a contented sigh.
“You know you’re gonna have one hell of a hangover tomorrow,” you teased, and at the silence that followed you asked, “Law?”
You raised her head only to see him already snoring away and chuckled. Resting your head back against his slowly rising chest you closed your eyes to sleep.
“Sweet dreams Law.”

Tl;dr: in which Law ignores reader to a point that Bepo believes them to be fighting and because he is inconsolable, Law has no choice but to reveal his real feelings.
A small, fluffy Law x f!reader. No use of reader or y/n. I may rewrite this into something larger, more detailed later on...
You enter Shachi and Penguin's room with a furrowed brow and a tight-lipped frown. Both your crewmates quirked a brow at you.
"What's wrong?" Penguin asked. You look up at him as though you only just realized you had entered their room.
"It's the Captain," you begin, "He and I aren't speaking... he's ignoring me, actually. I think maybe I've... done something wrong."
"Like what?"asks Schachi, shifting himself to face you better and coaxing you to sit on his bunk, you take the offer.
"That's the problem. I don't know." You revert into a dead eyed stare with furrowed brows and that tight-lipped frown. "I've been going over every interaction with him from the past three weeks, and I can't think of anything negative."
There's a collective, thoughtful hum from Schachi and Penguin. They couldn't recall anything bad about your daily interactions either. Infact, they thought you and the Captain were close, as you usually made him smile most.
"You're usually the one who gets him to loosen up..." Penguin pondered aloud.
"Yeah, and you guys are always spending time together because he always takes you with him if he gets off the Sub." Added Schachi.
As they finished speaking, Bepo walked into view of the open door to the boys' room.
"Oh, what are you guys talking about?" The innocent polar bear mink entered the room slowly.
"Captain's been ignoring our girl," Penguin explained. "She thinks she did something to really piss him off."
Bepo lets out a gasp at the idea of his friends fighting. "Oh no! Captain's upset?"
"Yeah, but we dont know why." Shachi interjected. "But he's been ignoring our girl for days."
"Weeks." You corrected, Bepo gasps.
"That's awful!" Bepo's furry paws went up to cup either side of his face in worry. "Captain ignored me once for a day because I accidentally ate his onigiri, did you eat his onigiri too?!"
"No," You answered, shaking your head. Bepo began to word vomit possible answers for why the captain could be ignoring you. You shook your head at all of them.
"Geesh. Maybe he just hates ya or something." Shachi jested after the long list of rejected plausible answers. Bepo gasps, horrified at the implication.
"Don't say that! What if he DOES? What if he's gonna kick her off the crew?!" And suddenly, the polar bear mink became inconsolable at the idea that his friend may be exiled from his crew.
Penguin and Shachi immediately tried to comfort the bear, to no avail, and you sat their on Penguin's bunk, wondering if Law really would kick you off the crew. Maybe you had done something truly wrong.
As Bepo continued to sob and you were lost in thought, The Heart Pirates' Captain came into view of the door frame.
"What's going on here?" The captain looked as though the four of you had roused him from an intense study session in his office. "Bepo, why are you crying?" Law's brow became firmly set in question as he noticed the Polar Bear's upset.
"Because!!" The navigator wailed. "You're upset, and ignoring my crewmate which means you're going to kick her off the ship!" Law's expression quickly turned to bewilderment as he looked at Shachi and Penguin for further explanation.
"Our girl here came in upset first!" Penguin explained, raising his hands in defense. "She said you'd been ignoring her for weeks, and Bepo got upset 'cause you two aren't getting along."
Law's bewilderment shifted to a mix of realisation and surprise. He held his head in his hand, and behind the wall of his palm, you almost swore you saw his cheeks go ruddy.
"I'm not kicking anyone off the crew Bepo." Mumbled the Captain before he raised his head to look at you. "Can you come to my office, please."
Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo went silent as you followed Law out of the boys' room and back to his office. Law held the door open and closed it behind you upon entering his space. You stood in the middle of his office, rocking back and forth on the balls of your feet as Law sighed and leaned against the closed door.
"Im sorry," he began, pulling you out of your anxious trance of swaying. "I wasn't... trying to ignore you. I just... needed to think."
You stared with wide eyes, uncertain of what to do or say. You should have realized your captain was just a busy man, trying to do his best.
"It's okay, I shouldn't have assumed you were ignoring me deliberately-"
"I was." Law cuts you off. "I had to ignore you to figure myself out. Im sorry." You looked at Law with calculatory eyes, and for the first time since you've joined his crusade, he shied away from your gaze. "I... had to figure out what you mean to me. And I couldn't do it with you so close to me because all you do is make me... uneasy."
"Gee, thanks?"
"No - that's not." Law groans at his own verbiage. Suddenly Law's regular confidence is back and he straightens, looking you in the eyes. "The regular resting heart rate for a man my age and stature is 60 to 100 beats per minute... whenever you're in the room, my resting heart rate shoots to 125. I get warm. I can't always focus. I thought you were making me sick."
At this point, you're still confused. No one wants to hear they make their captain nervous, but you can't understand why you would make the Surgeon of Death feel like this. What he says next staples your jaw to the floor.
"I like you." Law declares, "as more than my crewmate."
"What?"
"Please don't make me say it again."

Sabo
The air smelled of fresh blooms, mingling with the earthy scent of the village cobblestones. Your flower stall was modest but well-kept, adorned with colorful arrangements that brought a touch of life to the quiet streets. It was a life of simplicity, one you had built after so many years of darkness.
The villagers were cordial enough—polite smiles and brief greetings—but you knew the truth behind their careful distance. You were the former slave who had been freed by Fisher Tiger. While you were grateful for the life you had now, the shadow of your past loomed large, casting a cloud of fear over the people around you.
But there was one person who always stood out.
Sabo.
He had been a regular at your stall for months now, always buying daffodils. He never said why or who they were for, but his warm smile and gentle demeanor made his visits a highlight of your day. His sunny personality, paired with the sparkle in his eyes, had a way of making you forget the weight of your past, even if only for a few moments.
---
It was a quiet afternoon when the incident happened.
An old woman approached your stall, her expression already sour. “Do you have carnations?” she barked.
You shook your head politely. “I’m sorry, we’re sold out for today.”
Her face twisted with irritation. “Sold out? What kind of flower seller doesn’t have carnations? Useless!”
Her voice rose, drawing the attention of passersby. You tried to remain calm, offering a small smile and a soft apology, but she wasn’t finished.
“You think you can just stand here, pretending to belong in this village?” she spat. “Everyone knows what you are. A slave. A walking liability! How long before the government comes and razes this place because of you?”
The words struck like a physical blow. Your chest tightened, and your breath came in shallow gasps. You couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. The crowd had gathered now, their eyes on you—judging, pitying, or worse, agreeing.
---
“Enough of this.”
The voice cut through the tension like a blade.
Sabo stepped forward, his usually lighthearted demeanor replaced by a calm authority that silenced the murmurs of the crowd. He stood between you and the old woman, his presence commanding and unyielding.
“This behavior is unacceptable,” he said, his tone firm yet composed. “No one, no matter their past, deserves to be treated like this. She’s done nothing but contribute to this village with her kindness and hard work. What have you done, exactly, besides spread bitterness?”
The old woman bristled. “I was just speaking the truth! People like her bring trouble—”
Sabo interrupted her with a polite but pointed smile. “The truth, ma’am, is that she has more strength in her little finger than most of us will ever have. And if you have a problem with her, then perhaps you should reconsider who the real troublemaker is.”
The crowd shifted uneasily. The old woman, her indignation faltering, grumbled something under her breath and walked away.
Sabo turned to the onlookers. “Show’s over, folks. If you don’t have anything kind to say or do, maybe it’s time to get back to your day.”
The villagers dispersed, their curiosity satisfied, leaving the two of you alone.
---
Sabo’s expression softened as he turned back to you. Kneeling slightly, he picked up a daffodil that had fallen during the commotion and gently placed it in your trembling hand.
“Hey,” he said softly, his voice warm and soothing. “It’s okay. You’re okay.”
You stared at the flower, your fingers trembling around its delicate stem. His kindness was like a balm to the raw ache in your chest.
Noticing you were still shaken, Sabo stepped closer and placed a hand gently on your head, his fingers lightly ruffling your hair in an affectionate gesture. “You don’t deserve any of that. Don’t ever let anyone make you feel like you’re less than amazing, okay?”
His words broke something inside you. Tears spilled down your cheeks as the weight of years of judgment and loneliness came crashing down. Without thinking, you threw your arms around him, clinging to him as if he were the only thing keeping you afloat.
Sabo stiffened for a moment, clearly surprised, but then his arms wrapped around you, holding you tightly. “I’ve got you,” he murmured. “You’re safe. You’re not alone.”
You sobbed into his chest, his steady presence grounding you as his words washed over you. For the first time in your life, someone had seen you—not your scars, not your past, but you.
---
When you finally pulled away, you wiped your eyes, feeling lighter yet raw. Sabo gave you a small smile, his hands resting gently on your shoulders.
“Feeling better?” he asked.
You nodded, though your voice was still shaky. “Thank you… for everything.”
He grinned, a hint of his usual playfulness returning. “Anytime. Someone’s gotta look out for you.”
A question lingered in your mind, and you found the courage to ask it. “Sabo… why do you always buy daffodils?”
He blinked, caught off guard, before a soft chuckle escaped him. “Daffodils are a symbol of good luck,” he said. “I like to keep a little luck with me wherever I go.”
His gaze met yours, his smile turning slightly mischievous. “But, you know, I’ve been starting to think it’s not the flowers that bring me luck. It might just be the person selling them.”
Your cheeks flushed, and Sabo laughed, a light, carefree sound that made the heaviness in your chest dissolve.
“Come on,” he said, gesturing to your stall. “Let’s fix this up. You’ve got a business to run, and I’ve got more flowers to buy.”
As the two of you worked side by side, you couldn’t help but feel, for the first time, that maybe, just maybe, the future didn’t have to be so lonely.
Law
The Polar Tang was quiet save for the hum of the engines. The usual raucous energy of the Heart Pirates had settled into an uncharacteristic stillness, a quiet born from the long day of storms both inside and out. You sat in the ship’s medbay, fidgeting with a roll of gauze in your hands, your mind wandering to the events that had left you here.
The mission had been dangerous—too dangerous, according to Law. He had explicitly warned you and the others to tread carefully. But in the heat of the moment, when you saw one of your crewmates in danger, you didn’t think. You rushed in, shielding them, ignoring the pain that came when debris struck your side. You pushed through the fight, brushing off the blood that seeped from your wound.
No one noticed your injury at first. You didn’t let them. Because that’s what you always did—gave everything you had to make sure everyone else was okay, while quietly swallowing your own pain.
It wasn’t until the adrenaline wore off that you collapsed on the deck, the shocked gasps of your crewmates the last thing you remembered before waking up in the medbay.
---
“You’re an idiot.”
Law’s voice was sharp as he entered the room, his steps deliberate as he approached. He didn’t look at you at first, busying himself with medical supplies on the counter.
“I’m fine,” you said softly, your voice betraying your exhaustion.
He turned then, his gray eyes narrowing. “No, you’re not. You could’ve been seriously hurt—or worse. Do you think that’s fine?”
His tone was cutting, but beneath it, you heard something else. Worry.
“I was just trying to help,” you muttered, your gaze dropping to the gauze in your hands.
Law sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I know you were. But you can’t keep doing this—throwing yourself into danger like your life doesn’t matter.”
His words struck a nerve, and you looked away, swallowing the lump that had formed in your throat.
---
“You don’t get it,” you said quietly, your voice trembling. “If I don’t help, if I don’t give something to others, what’s the point? It’s not like anyone’s ever—”
You stopped yourself, biting your lip.
“Ever what?” Law’s voice was softer now, but it still carried weight.
You shook your head, unwilling to meet his gaze. “It doesn’t matter.”
Law was silent for a moment, then he stepped closer, his hands resting on the edge of the bed. “It does matter. You matter.”
The simplicity of his words made your chest ache. You glanced up at him, expecting to see irritation or pity, but his expression was unreadable.
“I don’t—” Your voice broke, and you quickly looked away again.
---
Before you could say more, you felt something unexpected—a hand on your head. Law’s hand. He gently rested it there, his touch firm but surprisingly gentle as his fingers lightly ruffled your hair.
“You don’t always have to be the one giving,” he said quietly, his voice carrying an unusual warmth. “Sometimes, it’s okay to let someone take care of you.”
The lump in your throat grew, and tears stung your eyes. You weren’t used to this—someone comforting you, showing you even a shred of affection. You had spent so long being the one who gave, the one who protected, that you had forgotten what it felt like to receive anything in return.
Tears slipped down your cheeks before you could stop them, and a soft sob escaped you. Law didn’t pull away, his hand still resting on your head, grounding you.
“Why…” Your voice cracked. “Why are you being so nice to me?”
Law’s lips quirked into the faintest of smirks. “Because you’re part of my crew. And I don’t let my crew fall apart—not even the stubborn ones.”
His words were simple, but they carried a weight that made your tears flow even harder. Without thinking, you leaned forward, burying your face in his chest as your emotions overwhelmed you.
---
He stiffened slightly at the contact but didn’t push you away. Instead, his hand moved from your head to your back, giving you an awkward but comforting pat.
“You’re not used to this, are you?” he asked, his tone dry but not unkind.
You laughed through your tears, pulling back just enough to look up at him. “What gave it away?”
Law sighed, shaking his head. “You’re a mess,” he muttered, but there was a softness in his eyes that belied his words.
As the tension in the room eased, you found yourself smiling through your tears. “Thanks, Doc.”
“Don’t thank me yet,” he replied, standing and grabbing a nearby clipboard. “I still have to lecture you about following orders and not getting yourself killed.”
You groaned, flopping back onto the bed dramatically. “Maybe I should’ve just stayed unconscious.”
Law smirked, his usual stoicism giving way to a rare moment of humor. “Don’t tempt me to use Room to keep you in check next time.”
Despite everything, you laughed, the sound light and genuine. For the first time in a long time, you felt like you weren’t alone.

OP characters
Would they let you paint their nails?
(Only MILDLY suggestive for Shanks...because yknow...its shanks)
Luffy!
You can absolutely try! He's not against it but this boy will most definitely run off about two fingers in
His color of choice was a ruby red that was supposed to get a coat of silver glitter, sadly you did not make it that far
The few fingers you did get done are completely back to normal within a day from a mixture of picking and chewing at them unconsciously
Sanji!
Is absolutely enthusiastic that you asked him! Tells you to choose whatever color you love the most so he has a constant reminder of you
Most definitely gets a nose bleed the moment you touch his hand, but other than that he sits patiently
Takes extra care in the kitchen to not damage said nails, if they flake off over time he will ask you to fix them for him
Zoro!
Definitely not overly enthusiastic about it but will begrudgingly agree after an idea hits his 2 working brain cells
He will get you to paint his two middle fingers a lime green, and will exclusively use this opportunity to flip Sanji off any chance he gets
Does not last long though within a week all the polish has chipped off
Nami!
100% down, she will request to paint yours as well afterwards
The two of you will be rocking a cute tangerine orange, every couple weeks you two will sit and touch them up again together
Brook!
He will absolutely crack a bone joke about how he does not have nails to paint
Will let you paint the tips of his boney fingers though, he would ask for a shade of blue that reminds him of his dear friend Laboon
Shockingly with a protective coat the polish stays wonderfully for many werks
Robin!
Another who is very happily down and requests to do the same for you! She will make a whole event of the time, tea, and some light reading in-between coats drying
If this becomes a regular ocurance she will mix up colors between dark violet shades and deeper pinks
Jinbe!
This man is not quite sure what you are asking of him but agrees with a hearty chuckle
When you ask him to pick a color he will ask for dealers choice, he does not particularly care about the polish but enjoys the way your face lights up when he agrees
Sadly does not last long on him ask with so much swimming it is bound to break down quickly
Ussop!
Beyond down! Another to make a whole event of the time, hair, face mask, and nails
Paint his nails while he tells you beyond Preposterous stories, the self care will be going both ways that night and by the end both party's will be refreshed
He would choose a forest green and after it drys attempt to do little designs of vines and flowers on them, to a somewhat success
Kid!
You would not even have to ask, this man would run out of his own polish and ask if you had any
A bit annoyed when you ask to paint them for him but agrees under the terms that he can make the two of you match
This man is red all the way, the more like fresh blood the better, will let you once in a while spice it up with painting his middle fingers black
Killer!
God he really did not want to at first but he is a softy and will agree after he sees your disipointment
At first he thought about matching with his captain but quickly decided against that settling on a deep ocean blue
With the amount of fighting this man gets up too it does not last long, but once a week will go to you to have them fixed up
Heat!
Obsessed with the idea! Another to have an entire self care night with you
Will pick a deep firey orange with a lighter orange glitter on top, has you help fix up his dreads as each coat drys, he struggles with the ones behind his head so that where your main focus will be
Afterwards will do the same back for you choosing for your nails to half match his, instead having a sparkly blue on top
This will become a regular occurrence
Wire!
Loves the idea, he's a man of few words so things you can do together that do not put pressure on talking are his favoites
He would wants a darker purple as to complement his outfit, after you finish he would place his hand out and after a moment of confusion you'd understand this him offering to do the same for you!
He takes great care of his nails but fighting takes its damage on them, when they get too bad he will simply approach you and hold out his hand to show how chipped they are, you get the message and fix them up for him
Law!
Absolutely! ...not...
He rejects it flat out multiple times and after so long you just stop asking...
That is until one night all the crew was drinking and celebrating their latest victory, after several too many drinks he approaches you, definitely even in his intoxicated state finds himself struggling with his words to request what he wants
After a while of anxiously waiting for the captain to tell you what he wants he simply asks you to follow him, assuming you are in trouble you are shocked to find him request such a silly thing
Happily you lead him to your chambers digging around in your bag you pull out a matte black polish
The next morning he wakes with a ragging hangover on top of the shock of his nails now painted, wants to be angry but knows it looks damn good, continues to take damn good care of them as well
Penguin! & Shachi!
Okay if you ask one they will not only agree immediately but also drag the other along
Unshocking this will not be an easy endeavor, it starts off strong with the two of them dumping out every color you own digging though struggling to choose a color
Eventually they will settle on a color each, penguin having picked and icey blue and Shaci with an almost neon orange, they request you do every other finger with each color
After you finish up they do the same for you each boy taking a hand, it starts off fine but quickly turns into the two insulting each other over how messy they paint, it turns into a competition of who can paint better
Bepo!
Often you find yourself napping and relaxing with Bepo so after a while of this you mentioned the idea of painting the polar bear's claws
He is absolutely giggling and squealing at the idea, quickly requesting for the most fun color you could think of, this boy wants glitter and do not cheap out! A light icy blue base with as many rainbow sparkle coats you can muster up
He will treasure them and keep them as safe as he can but will come to you with tears in his eyes as they peel off, give this boy a huge and fix them up for him!!
Shanks!
Absolutely will but requests you sit on his lap as you do it, this man will use any sneaky trick to get what he wants but as long as you both are happy he's winning
Wants a shade of red that matches his hair, once you finish up his hand he will ask you to do the other hand, out of pure Instinct you look towards where his other hand would be as he lets out a deep vibracious laugh poking fun at you for the rest of the night
Mihawk!
We'll say no the first time you ask but if you mentioned it a few times he will eventually give in requesting the most simple soild black you can find
After you finish them he takes a moment staring at them before nodding at you and sending you on your way
Over the next few days you'll notice anytime he walks by a mirror to straighten up his outfit he will take a moment to appreciate the nails and how well they complement his look, he may not want to admit it but you can tell he is feeling himself up
Will eventually ask you to fix them up over time as he says he's grown fond of them
Writers note!
Thank you reading! Requests are open for headcanons, fics, and really just about anything!

ʚ 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐞 ɞ chapter four
ʚ synopsis ɞ You haven't been able to sleep for a while, and Bepo has the solution to your problem. As you develop a friendship with the polar bear, you fail to notice the jealousy of a certain captain.
pairings : Bepo & Fem!Reader + Trafalgar D. Water Law x Fem!Reader
words count : 7.6k
content : fluff, angst, spider.
note : The return of classes delayed the publication of this chapter, but here it is at last. I hope you like it! o/ English is not my first language! Important : When I write that a character blushes, floats on a cloud, has hearts in his eyes, I'm writing it so that it reads like in a manga. For me, it doesn't matter what skin color or logic is behind certain reactions, it's clear in my head that it's really cartoonish. However, I understand if some people feel excluded, it's not my goal to limit you.
Previous chapter // Next chapter // Chapter index
[start of flashback]
The Straw Hats' adventure in Alabasta can be summed up as a race against time, the need to defy the clock to save a kingdom lost in lies. By offering their help to a princess in need, the crew gained a new member. Unfortunately, out of obligation, she stayed with her people. A noble decision. When you left the land of the dunes, you refused to erase the X on your arm. The memory of the brave fighter refused to leave your mind, you already missed her. "We'll need you in the future, don't forget us!" she told you with a huge smile.
Even though Vivi has stayed behind, her place in the crew will never be taken by anyone else. She is, and always will be, the princess of the Straw Hats.
When Nico Robin invited herself into the crew, under the pretext "you forced me to live, you're going to pay the price", she didn't replace Vivi. There was no need to discuss it; it was like an unwritten agreement. Like Zoro, you didn't approve of your captain's decision, Robin had a reputation that could tarnish the name of anyone associating with her. One by one, the Going Merry pirates fell under her spell for trivial reasons. Money, beauty, humor - none of these things appealed to either the swordswoman or the writer. Both of you looked at the woman with an unfriendly eye.
"Captain, I'd like to have a word with you."
"Shishishi, not right now, Robin does-OUCH! It hurts!"
"Now!"
It wasn't the first time you'd grabbed Luffy by the cheek, but it was definitely the first time you'd felt anger towards him. Away from the ears and stares of the others, you intended to explain your sudden burst of agitation to him:
"Luffy, we can't welcome Nico Robin among us."
"Why not?"
"She was born under a dark star."
"…"
"That means bad luck follows her like a shadow."
"Oh, that's ok!"
"It's… ok!? Luffy, you don't understand! Nico Robin doesn't carry the nickname Devil Child for no reason. Ever since she was born, she's been wreaking havoc wherever she goes. If she stays with us, we risk having the marines on our asses non-stop. Do you know how many crews Nico Robin has ruined simply by being present among them? She travels from ship to ship to get wherever she wants, no one-"
Huh. When you said those words out loud, you immediately realized the obvious parallel. Slowly, you stepped back and placed a hand in front of your mouth, lowering your gaze to the ground. Luffy didn't understand the sudden change in your behavior; he tilted his head and waited for the continuation of your speech. But nothing left your mouth for several seconds.
"Forget what I said." you whispered.
Maybe Luffy forgot, but you didn't. From that point on, you stopped complaining about the arrival of Nico Robin in your group, which didn't please Zoro. "What did she do to change your mind? Did she give you ink and paper? Did she give you a story to write?" You would have liked to answer your crewmate's sarcasm with the truth, but revealing part of your past was out of the question. "Nothing." you replied, without emotion. "Yeah, right." murmured Zoro.
Skypiea had been an out-of-this-world adventure. From beginning to end, you felt like you were living a dream. The intensity of the journey from sea to sky clearly took years off your life, and your anxiety had never been higher. To this day, you refuse to admit that you fainted under the pressure of the wind and the stress, and that Sanji was forced to hold you tightly between his legs to prevent you from falling.
When you arrived on the island, you found it hard to enjoy the clouds like your companions, spending your time writing down everything you saw in your notebook. How could you ever forgive yourself if you dared to forget a single detail of this land? An island in the sky, for God's sake! It wasn't every day you came across such an extraordinary discovery! It was beautiful, really. Until reality caught up with you and sent you off on another crazy adventure. Beating a god, eh?
During the peril, you got closer to Robin. Maybe it was the age, maybe it was the things you had in common, but to your surprise, you felt comfortable with her. So much so that you asked her something that shocked her. "Can you teach me to read poneglyphs?" Robin had met many people who wanted to take advantage of her knowledge and ability to read the mysterious steles, but no one had asked her to learn to read them.
"Those who are able to read the poneglyphs are in grave danger. As you know, the government wants to keep a part of history a secret. If you wish to obtain this knowledge, you must accept becoming not only a target for the government, but also for rich and powerful people.”
"Hm… I understand and accept the consequences that come with this knowledge. The government could send their best agent, an army, gods, whatever, they'll never succeed in locking me up in a cell. Luffy will never let them touch me."
At the time, you hadn't been able to decipher Robin's smile or the sadness in her eyes. A few days later, your words were echoing in your head over and over again. It's stupid, but you trusted her. And even more stupidly, you could easily have guessed what would happen next. You were the first to tell Luffy that Robin was going to betray you. And that's what happened. But she'd made a mistake. Didn't she understand what you told her at Skypiea? Luffy doesn't let ANYONE touch his crew.
If you thought the desert and the sky were adrenaline-pumping adventures, they didn't compare to the archaeologist's rescue. Chaotic was the right word to describe Enies Lobby. Even during your time in the marines, you'd never been confronted with such high levels of danger. The more time passed, the more unexpected obstacles were placed in your path, and the less you saw a way out. Entering a government domain to save a single soul who had chosen to abandon you? From your point of view, you would have described the situation as a suicidal mission. And unfortunately, you know a thing or two about suicide missions.
You put your heart and soul into saving Robin. Never thinking for a second that you'd survive.
Which is why you're still in shock to be back at Water 7 without a major injury. Enies Lobby is behind you. Facing a CP9 agent wasn't on your list of things to complete before you die, but now that box is checked. This journey has made Robin realize that she's not alone in this world, and that she can't escape in silence. No matter what she decides to do, Luffy will bring her back to the Going Merry. That goes for Usopp, too. And… you.
Like the others, you raised a glass to victory and spent the night celebrating. Your smile never left your face, but behind that cheerful mask lay a great sadness.
[end of flashback]
The Thousand Sunny's dining room is bursting with good energy. To welcome the second crew, Franky adjusted the table to accommodate all those who wish to take part in the meal. The quieter ones opt for the aquarium or the outside tables. Some prefer to enjoy their food away from the greedy captain who, without hesitation, steals from the others' plates and makes horrible noises with his mouth. You too had a hard time putting up with the young man's tendencies, but after hundreds of lunches at his side, you've gotten used to it.
With a kick, Luffy opens the door and announces his presence by shouting to his cook that his hunger is about to crush him. Oh, what a lovely smell, you think. You recognize the aroma of your favorite breakfast ingredients. If your stomach wasn't rumbling before, well, it is now. You notice that the usual places at the table are in disorder, with the exception of the captain.
"I've reserved a seat for you! You're going to sit next to me!" He seems so proud of his decision, you don't have the courage to ruin his good deed by telling him that reserving a seat was unnecessary and far too kind. You could have joined the others under the sun, but you suspect that your young captain wouldn't accept this alternative, so you follow him to the end of the table and sit down on the chair intended for you.
"TORAO!! BEAR!!! HERE!!!" shouts Luffy suddenly, waving his arm in the air, as if he wasn't visible to the duo at the door.
You greet them discreetly with a simple wave of your hand - there's no need to damage anyone's ear. Law sits down opposite to you, and Bepo in front of Ikkaku. The polar bear scratches his cheek and lets out a long yawn. If Luffy hadn't woken you up, you're sure you'd still be glued to Bepo, deep in slumber. You want to express your gratitude to the duo, but alas, Sanji arrives like a tornado and places a plate of food, a bowl of fruit and a large glass of orange juice in front of you.
"For madame, her favorite breakfast with fruit cut in the shape of a heart to express my admiration for her beauty, intelligence and entire person. Your presence on this boat brightens my days, calms my nights and gives me the strength to pursue my dream. I'd be willing to find water in a desert for you, I'd be willing to pick up the moon-"
You hug Sanji for a split second. "Thank you, Sanji." you say with tenderness and sincerity. After the night before, you know that your crewmate is trying to show his support by offering you your favorite dish and complimenting you. Although you've heard him repeat his words to other women, you know he's not lying.
The focus of the audience was already on the cook, who was declaring his love, a less surprising sight, but the intensity of his words seemed a little more pushed and thoughtful. The hug ended his tirade, but only increased his fire. He took several steps back and succumbed to a heavy nosebleed. You are convinced you've shut down his brain when he tries to speak, but his words make no sense. He floats back behind the counter like he's on a cloud.
You start eating your breakfast in silence, listening to other people's conversations and thinking about what you're going to do later. You wonder if Bepo is free, if he'd like to swim together again or explore the jungle. You can't resist the urge to wander through the wilderness, feeling like you're in an adventure book, just like the famous fictional archaeologist.
At one point, your attention is drawn to Usopp, who is telling a totally true and very believable story. Out of the corner of your eye, you see a hand sliding across your plate.
"Luffy!" You quickly grab his filthy little claws to keep it from contaminating the fruit. "Don't touch what's mine, just ask me if you want anything."
You hear him growl, but he asks if he can have some of your fruit, which you happily accept. Sanji has given you too big a serving. You lean over to place the fruit on your captain's plate, and he too leans over to smell your hair. Luffy loves your shampoo and has told you on several occasions that he'd like to eat it if it weren't bad for his body.
"You don't smell like usual, you smell weird."
"Hey, don't criticize (y/n)-chan! Her smell is delightful!" replies Sanji, frustrated and ready to defend you to the death.
"It's not an insult, it's true! She smells like… like…" Luffy scratches his head and thinks. He digs deep into his brain, until he comes up with an answer. "She smells like Torao!"
At this statement, a number of people start laughing, and you yourself give a short giggle. You've slept in his bed, so it's not surprising that your hair adopts his scent, but you didn't think it was obvious. It's amazing how your captain can notice the little details. Ikkaku is the second person to lean over and sniff your hair.
"Oh yes, that's right! She smells like cheap cologne and trust issues."
"I do not." Law hadn't intended to intervene, but after that low blow, he owed it to himself to respond and protect his image.
"Sure you don't, big boy." replies the young woman with a smirk, proud to have made her captain react.
"So shitty cook," begins Zoro, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. "Does that mean you find the smell of Law delightful?"
War was declared between the swordsman and the cook. This first attack gave both crews a good laugh and even brought a smile to Law's face. The mood of the morning promises a day full of joy and teasing. What's more, Nami says the sun should be out all day and the wind gentle. Good news indeed!
You continue to devour your meal, avoiding Luffy's attempts to steal it. You don't notice Nami nodding to Chopper and Luffy. Your captain suddenly begins to annoy Law. The little reindeer clears his throat. "(Y/n)!" You turn to him with a smile, inviting him to continue his speech. "There's a medicinal plant I'd like to add to my stock, and I'm confident there's some in the forest! But I can't go, I've got to clean the infirmary and air out the space. Would you like to go and get some for me, please?"
"Oh, why not! I didn't have any plans today. But wouldn't you rather go together after you've finished cleaning up?"
"Er…" Chopper looks at you with a far too wide smile and round eyes. A bead of sweat slides down his forehead. "I-I…"
"It’s going to take all day!" urges Nami with a suspicious enthusiasm.
"Y-yes! All day! And there's no guarantee the weather will be nice tomorrow!" confirms Chopper with a nervous laugh.
From the way they talk, you can tell they're hiding something. What exactly? You don't know, but you're determined to find out. You just hope it's not a surprise party or a bad joke.
"Right. Bepo, would you like to come along? We could listen to Uta's album!" You sincerely hope the polar bear will agree, you long to spend time with him.
"Bepo can't, I'm going to help him work on his maps." replies Nami.
Bepo looks at you with sad eyes. "Sorry…"
You're happy the two are going to spend some time talking about their passion- ah but, you don't even know if Bepo is passionate about this topic! Not all navigators love their job… Arg! You've got so much to talk about with Bepo, you can't wait to get to know him better! Admitting you're a little jealous of Nami is not pleasant. You lift your spirits with the thought of being able to talk to your new friend at the end of the day and, who knows, maybe sleep in his fluffy arms.
"Robin?"
"Sorry, I'm helping Chopper clean the infirmary."
"Franky?"
"Sorry sis! Usopp and I are working on a suuuper project!"
"Brook?"
"Yohoho! I'm composing on a new song and I won't lie, this forest is giving me the creeps!"
"Ikka?"
"No, I can't. In fact, most of the Heart can't. We have to clean up the control room, two idiots caused a rampage during the night. Believe me, I wish I could go with you."
Pfft, no one can, seriously? You've got four people left on your list. Luffy, a traveling companion who's bursting with energy, but causes trouble every time, so that's a no. Zoro will be lost in less than five minutes. Sanji must stay on the boat to cook, or Luffy will panic. Jinbe…
"Jinbe!"
The fish-man enters the dining room and is startled when you call out to him. You look at him with an excitement he rarely sees in your eyes these days.
"Would you like to come with me to get some medicinal plants?"
You join your hands and beg him with your gaze, it's impossible for him to resist your beauty! You're too busy charming Jinbe, you don't see Shachi, Penguin and Nami silently panicking. Before Jinbe can respond, Penguin stands up and shouts, "JINBE WILL SHOW ME HOW TO SWIM."
Everyone turns to the young man.
"I am?" questions Jinbe with surprise.
"O-of course! You are the best at swimming, after all!" replies Penguin.
You just can't believe it! You know very well that Penguin is one of the Heart's best swimmers, so why are they trying to send you off alone into the forest? It's a bit too dangerous to venture off on your own into an unfamiliar place on an island strangely devoid of inhabitants, this plan doesn't suit you. Unfortunately, you've got nothing better to do. You could lock yourself in the library and try to write, but once again, inspiration isn't there. Well, you have no choice.
You finish your plate in silence, disappointed in your friends.
After breakfast, you return to the girls' bedroom to choose your clothes for the day. You've got your pajamas in your hands and you're about to drop them into the dirty laundry, but a thought stops you in your tracks. If your hair smelled like Law, then… your shirt should, logically, have the same smell, right? Everyone was laughing this morning. Luffy thought your perfume was unusual, and Ikkaku declared that her captain smells like cheap cologne. You, on the other hand, disagreed.
With trembling hands, you bring the shirt up to your nose and inhale the poison that is Law. Without realizing it, your eyes close. Yes, it's definitely his smell. Masculine, fresh, comforting… You suddenly open your eyes and throw the shirt at the end of your arms as if it had burned you. With a petrified look, you fall back onto your bed and try to control your heavy breathing. Holy shit, what did Sanji put in your food?!
You don't know what possessed you, but it was definitely strange. There's nothing wrong with finding someone's perfume pleasant, but smelling their shirt in the hopes of getting a little hint of it? That's not really normal. It would be humiliating if the doctor knew what you'd done, you can imagine how creeped out he'd be. Shaking your head, you push away the wicked fiend that has taken over your body for a few seconds. You settle back on the bed to make yourself a tad more comfortable, needing to take your mind off things and get ready to venture alone into a forest, yay…
A long sigh leaves your lips. The sun may be shining, but your mind is clouded by loneliness. Two crews and no one available to spend a couple of hours with you. It shouldn't bother you so much, but fuck, you feel as if you've fallen into a black hole and are slowly being forgotten by everyone. Forgotten or ignored. Chopper trusts you to pick a plant, which should reassure you, but it doesn't. Does he really need this herb? Maybe he wanted to get you away from the boat so you'd finally give them some space. Maybe they've all lied and are going to have another beach day without you.
But… Bepo wouldn't lie to you. Would he?
Fuck, you feel sick again. The beating of your heart makes you nauseous. The pain that took over your body yesterday seems to be coming back even stronger. Experiencing a panic attack, this time in broad daylight, would be painful. You don't even know if you'd be able to show your face again after such an unpleasant event. Yeah yeah, tomorrow's a new day, but it's morning, for crying out loud! You don't know what's going on with you, but you're sick of feeling so helpless in the face of your own thoughts.
You leave your bed to finish what you came to do: change your outfit. You choose clothes appropriate for the weather, but also for the woods. It would be awkward to repeat Nami's mistake and get sick from an insect bite. Nevertheless, you opt for a style that will prevent you from overheating in the humidity of the forest and under the sun's harsh rays. You allow yourself a slightly revealing look, knowing that no men will bother you.
When you open the bedroom door to leave, you jump back at the sight of the Heart captain. His fist is raised, as if he's about to knock. Your heart speeds up for a different reason.
"H-hey. Do you need something?" you say as you close the door behind you, awkwardly stepping closer to Law.
"You didn't ask me if I was available to accompany you."
You let out a small "oh" out. The heat rises to your cheeks and you try to find the right words to express yourself. For a moment, you wonder if you have offended your interlocutor. Since Punk Hazard, Law has shown no interest in including himself in the life of the Straw Hat pirates. He remains an outsider, and you respect his choice, but by watching him keep his distance, you've learned to remove him from your options. Inviting him as a courtesy never even crossed your mind.
Besides, as you know, Law doesn't pay you any attention except in moments of extreme danger. Although, that seems to have changed. Yesterday, he put sunscreen on your back, let you sleep in his bed and gave you a hug this morning! Oh boy, the hug. You hadn't thought about that. Oh no. You must be as red as a tomato right now!
You're trying to find logic in Law's change of attitude. Wano has been a stressful time and many have had close calls with death, some have had triggers about their lives and their intent. Perhaps Law is one of those people. That's a far-fetched theory. Another theory would be that Bepo asked Law to be more open to you and stop being a fucking wall without feeling. The polar bear has the power to manipulate his captain with his adorable soft eyes. Then again, it doesn't make sense. It's only been two days since you got close to Bepo, you don't think the navigator would confront his captain for so little.
“Did you wanted-”
"I've already asked Tony-ya for the herb he's looking for, let's go."
He leaves you no choice. Without warning, Law teleports you to the beach and takes the lead. You're so confused by this turn of events, you don't retort, following him closely.
As you enter the forest, you pass by the campfire where you fell asleep on top of Bepo on the first night of your reunion. You smile as you recall the polar bear's kindness. If it hadn't been for him, you probably wouldn't have been able to leave the ship. Then you think about what Zoro told you. Luffy put an end to the party in order to let you rest in peace. You've also discovered that Franky was the one who covered you with a blanket. You don't understand why you panicked earlier. Your crew obviously likes you.
The jungle is dense. You and Law soon discover that there is no clear path and that you have to move around like explorers. You need to pay attention to where you're walking to avoid holes and potentially dangerous animals. The further you advance, the more you become overwhelmed by the sounds of the environment. It's enough to make anyone paranoid. You keep glancing behind you, convinced that a snake is about to slither onto your shoulders. Law appears indifferent to his surroundings, so you try to maintain a calm attitude and stay close to him.
Unsurprisingly, Law isn't much of a talker, so you're the first to break the ice.
"Hey, what are we looking for, anyway?" you ask after realizing that you don't even know what to look for. After all, Law didn't give you a chance to visit Chopper before leaving.
"Piper aduncum, or better known as matico. The plant smells like pepper." he replies, sounding as monotonous as ever.
"Okay, what does it look like?" It's nice to know the name, but it's not going to help you be useful while searching.
"A green leaf with no particular features."
"Great, it's a good thing I totally saw a picture of this pip.. pipre.."
"Piper aduncum." he corrects you, without even bothering to turn towards you to speak.
"Yeah, that." you mutter, holding onto the straps of your backpack with some strength.
His lack of interest, or so you think from his nonchalant attitude, gets on your nerves a bit. The guy may be a real hottie and an eye candy, but that doesn't excuse his eccentric, dominant side. And not dominant in a sexy way, more in a know-it-all, “well, actually-” way. And the worst part is, he usually knows everything! Law is incredibly smart, he's a goddamn doctor. Sometimes you'd like to possess the breadth of his knowledge and be able to shut the mouth of those who think themselves superior, sometimes you'd just like to get down on your knees in front of him and show your admiration for his brain.
It's strange because you know very well that Robin is the smartest person in the world, yet you don't want to kneel before her and worship her rich knowledge. That would be ridiculous and almost humiliating.
Law slows his pace and turns to face you, looking a little embarrassed. "I teleported us without realizing there was a possibility you didn't know what the matico looked like. Talking to you before leaving would have been preferable."
The frustration you'd experienced a few minutes earlier disappears as soon as Law explains his reasoning. Plus, he's stopped walking like a giant and taken the time to look at you. Now you feel a little bad about overreacting and criticizing him in your head.
"Don't worry." you reply. You would have liked to follow up with "I'm not mad." but that would have been a lie.
From then on, Law ceases to lead the way and stays by your side, adapting to your pace. You don't know whether this is his attempt to apologize or simply to keep an eye on you. Either way, he has a motive. You've noticed the Heart captain has a tendency to over-analyze, and there's a reason behind everything he does. It's something you respect about him, even though it seems mentally exhausting.
Clouds slowly hide the sun.
Maybe you should turn around and go back to the Thousand Sunny. Without a clear image of the plant in your head, it's impossible for you to help find it. You're like a little dog who follows Law without question. You don't mind spending time with him, it's a rare thing, but you suspect he's not there for the fun of it.
You should tell him what you're thinking, but something catches your attention. Finally, a smile appears on your face.
"Wait!" you shout.
Law stops walking and is surprised to see you skillfully climbing a tree. It shouldn't be surprising, but you've found a mango tree! Your new mission is to fill your bag with fruit and take it back to Sanji. "The cook is going to be happy." you murmur, giggling to yourself. High up, you don't see Law's little smile. He's admiring you and making sure you don't fall.
On the way back down, you hear Law say, "You know I could have picked them in seconds."
"That would take all the fun out of climbing a tree and picking them yourself, Torao!"
"You sound just like your captain." he murmurs, before resuming in a normal tone: "Please don't call me by that ridiculous nickname."
"Do you prefer Traffy?"
"No."
"Okay, Trafalgar."
"It's not even a nickname."
"Oh sorry, I thought you didn't want a nickname, Surgeon of Death."
Law pinches the top of his nose and shows you his back. You hold back a laugh at his reaction, you know you're playing with his patience, but you can't help it. He's so easy to annoy!
Even though you can't see him, Law hides his eyes behind his hat. "Call me by my name." he murmurs.
"Sorry, I didn't hear you, Surgeon of Death. Can you speak up?" When Law doesn't respond, you reach over and pat him on the back. "Hey, I'm teasing you! Come on, let's keep going!"
You grab his hand and start walking. Once again, you notice how warm his skin is, and this shouldn't turn your stomach, but it does. Every time you feel this strange sensation, you prefer to part with it as quickly as possible, no matter how addictive it is. For two reasons, you decide to abandon Law's hand and hold the straps of your backpack. One, your body is already demanding to reconnect and your heart is about to explode. Two, you'd rather be the first to distance yourself before Law does, which will hurt you even more. Why this would hurt you is something you don't want to understand.
Law had no intention of letting go of your hand, but he respects your choice.
The sun is completely hidden by clouds and a chilly wind appears. Nami said it was going to be a beautiful day, which is strange. You're starting to feel a bit cold.
The two of you keep walking in a comfortable silence. The Heart captain stops a few times to examine some plants, but doesn't find the famous matico that Chopper is asking for. Although he says he's sure there's some on the island, you're starting to think that's not the case. A long distance separates you from the ships, and the jungle density is getting progressively worse. The sun disappeared behind the clouds a while ago, but even without the clouds, the trees would hide most of the light with no problem. And you don't know where the wind is coming from, but the weather is weird.
To take your mind off things, you decide to talk.
"Thank you for stepping in yesterday and letting me sleep in your bed." you say, playing awkwardly with your fingers. You don't dare meet Law's eyes for fear he'll see you blush.
"It's nothing." he replies. His neutrality shouldn't surprise you, and yet.
"No, it's not nothing. Do you know a captain who would let an enemy sleep in his bed?" you insist.
"You're not an enemy."
Surprised by this statement, you can't help but turn his words against him in a playful tone:
"So, you admit to still being Luffy's ally?"
You stop yourself from laughing when you see Law's eyes widen. You've trapped him and you're going to talk about it with the others later. After Wano, Law kept repeating how the alliance was over and he and Luffy were enemies.
"No, it's not- You… You're Bepo's friend."
Ah. Bepo's friend. Of course, you should have known better. Maybe your theory earlier wasn't so far-fetched. Damn, why does it hurt so much to hear those words? Suddenly, you don't want to continue the conversation. All the answers you could think of would only aggravate your pain and irritate the captain. You weren't going to answer, but Law throws you a new question:
"Did you sleep well?" he asks. Again, you know Law analyzes everything and doesn't act without reason, even if that includes small talk. You wonder why he keeps talking to you.
"Yeah, I don't know if it's Bepo or your mattress, but I slept like a baby. I really needed it." you reply sincerely. No need to hide the truth, Bepo is the perfect sleeping companion and Law's mattress is so comfortable!
"Good. You can sleep in my room until you feel better." he declares as if it was a totally casual invitation.
"Law, that's too generous! My sleepless nights and nightmares don't concern you, it shouldn't affect your life and especially your night's rest." You hide your face in your hands and let out a low growl, frustrated by your interlocutor's kindness. Doesn't he understand that he's offering you a piece of heaven right now?
Law stops walking and you face him, letting your arms fall to your sides. You watch him with an annoyed pout.
"(Y/n)-ya, I've had insomnia since I was a teenager. I know the sleepless nights haunted by images of the past, by regrets and by mistakes. And when you finally find sleep, you fall into a world of nightmares that seem worse than reality, but when you wake up, you realize your life is a nightmare." declares Law in a dark tone. You notice that he's clutching Kikoku with a strong grip. "If my bed can help you break this vicious circle, I'm more than willing to let you have it."
For a moment, you say nothing. Law's words loop in your head, burned into your memory so you'll never forget them. You bite your lower lip to keep from crying, but the tears find their way to your cheeks.
You've been feeling so odd lately, like everyone is slowly falling away from you and life is morphing into a nightmare. Law has just described exactly what's going on with you. It hurts to know that someone else is going through this, but selfishly, it's a relief to know you're not alone. You know who caused Law's pain. If it were possible, you'd like to strangle Doflamingo and spit in his face, even if it would cost your life.
Seeing you cry breaks Law's heart. It wasn't his intention to provoke this reaction; on the contrary, he thought he was making you happy. Yesterday, when you were in a similar state, Nico-ya took you in her arms and stroked your hair. Should he do the same to calm you down? No, that's a bad idea. He'd love to hug and comfort you, but he can't do that. He's worked very hard to keep his distance from you, even though his efforts threaten to fall apart since yesterday. Damn it, he's an idiot.
He doesn't know exactly why you're crying, but whatever the cause, he needs to do something about it. If Luffy was there to tell him to cuddle you, he'd do it without hesitation. Hell, if you ask him to hold you, he will! And that's what he's hoping for. He looks at you with desperation, waiting for you to say the magic words, but it's obvious you're not paying him any attention.
You cry silently in front of the beautiful man, unable to turn around in fear of losing the strength in your legs and falling to the ground. Your body tilts slightly forward and your head is bowed. You don't dare to look at the doctor. You feel so small and weak. Right now, you really need a hug, someone to reassure you that everything's going to be alright. You feel so bad putting Law, the person who's least adept in this kind of situation, through this. You don't blame him for remaining silent.
Then suddenly, you feel something on your head: Law gave you his hat. You have no idea if he's as attached to his hat as Luffy is to his, but you understand that it's not just any old thing. You accept the gift like a tender embrace. As if you were Law, you cover your eyes with the hat and continue to cry in silence.
After several minutes, your tears stop flowing and you feel a little calmer. You've spent part of the morning feeling lonely and doubting the love of your companions. Strangely enough, Law is the one who makes you feel appreciated.
"Thanks." you whisper, as you wipe your face and sniffle.
"If you want to talk about what happened last-"
"No." you reply abruptly in an authoritative tone, giving him no chance to continue. You regret interrupting him and being so abrupt. "Sorry, it's just…"
"I get it. You don't have to explain."
You thank him, bowing your head. Maybe Law isn't so lost when it comes to communication. You could have blamed him for not trying to talk to you or distract you, but you didn't. By crying openly the way you did, it stopped you from trying to hide your pain and acting like everything was perfect.
On your toes and with Law leaning over, you put the hat back on his head.
"Although, I'm sorry I disturbed your intimate moment with Robin." you say with a smirk.
"What? No, that's not what- I was talking to her about- It was nothing to-" Law drops his mask for a few seconds and panics verbally.
You laugh heartily at his reaction. "Don't panic, I was just teasing. Let's go."
Law sighs discreetly and follows you without saying a word. Even though you're beautiful when you cry, he'd rather hear you laugh.
The force of the wind increases and shakes the trees in an eerie way.
Honestly, you don't know why you're continuing into the jungle with Law as the temperature changes drastically. Everything tells you it's not a good idea to keep going, but you want so badly to bring back what Chopper asked you to. Disappointing the reindeer wouldn't make you feel any better. If you come back empty-handed, you promise to offer him cotton candy as an apology.
You see a tree with pink fruit. As with the other trees, you decide to climb like a real monkey and collect your treasure. The Heart captain doesn't seem surprised by your approach and lets you do it without comment.
Compared to other trees, this one has many more branches and leaves. You're careful not to lose your balance or scratch yourself. With the wind, it's a bit difficult to grab the fruit, but you don't give up.
Huh. This fruit isn't like the others. You stretch out your arm to take the strange fruit, but your worst nightmare settles on your arm and moves upwards at an astonishing speed. Suddenly, your body and brain stop functioning. You let out a piercing scream and wave your arm in all directions to get rid of this horrible eight-legged creature!
Obviously, you fall.
Thanks to his power, Law catches you without difficulty and safely drops you to the ground, but you continue to panic. You hold your left arm as far away from your body as possible, as if it were infected. You jump on Law and cling to his shoulder, digging your nails in.
"GET IT OFF NOW! LAW! PLEASE!"
Among the Straw Hat Pirates, Sanji and you are known for being scared of insects and spiders. You can tolerate the presence of insects, but if they touch you, your soul leaves your body and you go mad. Right now, you consider yourself even more vulnerable than before. For God's sake, you let yourself fall out of a tree without thinking! If Law hadn't been there, you could have broken your neck!
“KILL IT, DO SOMETHING!”
The captain uses his power to remove the spider from your body, which was on your back, but he'll keep this information all the way to his grave.
"It's done."
When you're absolutely sure that the little creature is no longer on you, you catch your breath, but you don't let go of Law. This time, you know perfectly well why your heart is beating so fast - it's that stupid spider's fault. Still, you're surprised to feel your interlocutor's hand gently caressing your back, it's… pleasant. Then, suddenly, he stops.
"You're cold." he says when his fingers touch your icy skin, it's not a question.
You've had goosebumps for a while now, but you weren't going to complain about the cold. You trusted Nami and decided to wear summer clothes, it's your fault. The spider caused a surge of heat during its attack, but it wasn't enough to keep you comfortable. At least Law gives you some warmth. That's why you're disappointed when he ends the hug.
"We're going back to the ships."
You nod and rub your arms to warm up. You're about to turn back, but you notice that Law is taking off his hoodie. No way, he's crazy to be hot at a time like this! Why do men burn like furnaces? You understand why Franky is burning up, he's a robot, but Zoro!? It's almost inhuman.
“Take it.”
Ah. Law's giving you his hoodie.
You weren't expecting this. Normally, you'd decline his offer and prefer to fight the temperature mentally and probably run to the Sunny to warm up, but it's so cold all of a sudden, you can't find the courage to refuse. You take the garment and put it on as quickly as possible. You let out a sigh of satisfaction and thank Law for sacrificing his comfort. You don't know this side of Law at all, it wouldn't bother you if he were always like this. Although, it would take away his charm as a handsome, mysterious, tattooed dark-haired man.
You're glad you spent the day with him; you didn't expect to go through such an emotional journey. However, you feel bad about dragging him through all the twists and turns.
Law activates his power to create a blue sphere, but before teleporting you, he hesitates.
“Everything all right?" he asks, an almost worried look on his face.
You pause for a second, but decide to be honest. You get the feeling that whatever happens in this jungle, stays in this jungle.
"I'm sorry your day is ruined." you say with a sigh.
"Why do you think my day is ruined?" His tone is neutral, but you can hear the surprise in his voice, prompting you to continue without hiding your feelings.
"You're looking for a plant in the forest with me when you could do something else. It's not for nothing that I didn't ask you to come with me, that would have been a bit crazy."
"Why not?" he asks, curious to hear your reasoning.
"Well… you're a captain, you've got more important things to do." you say, avoiding eye contact.
"It means nothing, I'm a captain, I can do what I want."
"Yes, but no.." You pause, relieved to find that Law is giving you time to think about your words. "Walking around a forest for a stupid plant is irrelevant to you. You could have relaxed by talking to Robin, like you did the other night in the aquarium. You accept Luffy as an ally, but it seems you have no real connection with the rest of the crew, except Robin and Chopper." If he hears a tinge of jealousy in your voice, he doesn't mention it. "Otherwise, you could have, I don't know… read a book or carry on, whatever it is you're doing, in your office." You're already regretting your statement and the way you said it. It was clumsy.
"You talk as if you know what's going on in my head." he replies dryly.
"That's not what I meant, not really… Sorry to assume what you imagine, but you're not a very open person. It's very difficult to decipher you." you murmur with a sigh.
There's a long silence. You're convinced that the relationship you've built with Law over the last few hours is falling apart. And it's your fault.
"Instead of assuming and getting ideas, ask me directly." You're having trouble identifying what he's feeling right now.
"Ask what?"
“Everything.”
Huh. You don't know the man well enough to know if this request is normal. And you don't know him well enough to know if he's angry or… bothered? You're really going in blind, it's a dangerous game. "You want me to ask you anything?"
“Yes.”
He is not ready.
"Ever since Punk Hazard, you've been weird with me. What's changed since we last met that you're able to talk to me now? Did I do something to you in the past that made you want to avoid me?"
Law looks at you, but doesn't answer.
"What can I do to maintain this bond? Are you going to start ignoring me again as soon as we leave this place? Because if so, I'd rather have an answer now to prepare myself mentally for this loss."
Well, Law didn't think you'd ask that kind of question at all. He's shocked, but his face doesn't show it. Too bad for him, you're about to deliver the final blow.
“Do you hate me?”
You're stunned by your own words, as if you've just pronounced a forbidden phrase. Bepo has promised you that Law doesn't hate you, but you need to hear it. It's selfish, you know. It was a very bad idea to open that box, you realize.
The tattooed man's silence is strong. You give him time to digest your questions, but something tells you you won't get an answer. Law doesn't move, he doesn't even seem affected by what you've said, even though you know that's not entirely the case. No one can be so closed off.
Then why doesn't he say anything?
You beg him with your eyes. A simple yes or no is enough. But the silence persists.
Drops of water fall from the sky and envelop you in a sudden downpour. Law's hoodie no longer protects you from the cold. You're soaked to the bone.
"Okay." you murmur, sniffling. "Take me back to the Sunny, please."
Without saying a word, Law activates his power and takes you back to the beach.

Summary: Law is leaving for Punk Hazard/Dressrosa. Reader is a Heart Pirate and marine biologist. Features mutual pining and unrequited love. This thing I wrote here could be considered a prequel if you want to read it.
Pairing: Trafalgar Law x Gn!Reader
Genre: Angst, Eventual Fluff
CW: SFW // None
Word Count: 978
———
You entered Law’s cabin and closed the door behind you, leaning up against the wall with your arms folded over your aching chest. You wore his hoodie, the yellow one with black sleeves, the smell of your captain lingering on the soft fabric the most comfort you could find as he packed his things for his trip.
His clothes were folded meticulously, his blade in mint condition. He looked as prepared as ever, completely put together. And yet, he lingered, refolding the same few shirts several times over and inspecting his blade for flaws you both knew were not there.
You knew to expect this sort of opaque communication with him. Everything with Law at the moment was a gray area, your relationship included.
Were you captain and crew mate, operating on a strict hierarchy? Were you colleagues conducting research together in the laboratory aboard the Polar Tang? Were you friends brought together by a shared love of adventure? Were you victims of isolation and long nights alone, the few chaste kisses you’d shared in the shadows of the lab nothing more than a mistake, something you’d done because you were lonely and tired? Were you on your way to becoming lovers, with deeper kisses soon to come? Was there something more permanent, more serious, to be eked out, or was it purely physical?
You made him snacks when you were up late working together, and he always brought you matcha without asking. He borrowed your books and returned them with an origami swan or flower in the pages, and you kept wearing the hoodie he’d given you when you got too cold one night. The two of you discussed what books and papers you’d been reading as of late, shared song recommendations, and even offered each other the parts of your meals you didn’t want.
Whatever your relationship was, it was a relationship.
And he was leaving.
“It’s for your own good,” he said, pushing the last of his things into his bag and drawing it shut, an unreadable expression on his face.
You swallowed your scoff but couldn’t stop yourself from rolling your eyes. “Bullshit.” You looked up from the floor and met his gaze head on. “What’s the point of having a crew if you can’t trust them to have your back?”
“I do trust you. That’s why I’m leaving you in charge.”
You rolled your eyes again. “I didn’t join your crew to babysit a bunch of nurses. Sure, I love them, but I joined for you, Law.”
“I’m glad to hear it, y/n-ah. I really am.” He turned away from you. “We can talk about it more when I get back.”
“I joined for you.” You pushed off the wall and took a step forward, clenching your jaw at the sight of his turned back. He couldn’t even look at you while he relegated you to the sidelines. “And now you’re leaving.”
“I can’t lose you!” He snapped. When he turned around, there was a fire in his eyes you’d never seen before, a desperation that terrified you. He looked as if he was hanging off the side of a cliff, his fingers barely curled around the edge. He looked as if he was about to lose everything. But in typical Law fashion, he recovered quickly, guarded expression returning. “I can’t lose any of you.” He cleared his throat, looking anywhere but your face. “I won’t risk it.”
You wanted to reach out and grab him. You weren’t sure what you would do after that, if you would pull him in for a hug and try to cradle him in your arms despite his superior size, or if you would place one of those chaste kisses on his lips, perhaps another on his cheek. Maybe you would run your fingers through his hair. But that uncertainty kept you from touching him at all.
You stepped out of his way, wrapping your arms tighter around your body. You stared at the ground, eyes burning. You refused to shed any tears, though. You’d never been so angry at Law, and you didn’t want to let him see just how deep he’d cut you by not even asking for your help. And after all those times he’d told you he trusted you.
Despite you no longer standing in his path, he didn’t leave. He remained glued to his spot by the bed, sword and bag in hand.
“Tell me you’ll still be here when I get back,” he said without looking at you. “I need…” When he trailed off, he seemed unusually vulnerable, and you thought he might offer you some kind words. After a moment, he cleared his throat. “I need to know Bepo will be safe. He buckles under pressure.”
You wanted to push him, to give him some sort of ultimatum, to force him to come clean and say what he meant rather than leaving you wondering, but you knew that was selfish considering the position he was in; he had more important things to deal with.
So, you clenched your jaw and assured him, “Bepo will be safe.” Putting your feelings aside was worth it when you saw a little bit of tension leave his body.
“Thank you, y/n-ah.” He brushed past you, and that should’ve been the end of it.
But just as he reached the door, you whirled around and stated, “You’d better be safe too, Law. You have people waiting for you, people who care about you. You know that, don’t you? We all care about you.” Your voice cracked painfully toward the end.
Law stopped in the doorway. Again, you couldn’t see his face, but you saw how he lowered his head, and you thought perhaps your words had landed.
“When I get back,” he promised once more, and with that, he was gone.
———
Hope you enjoyed it! Parts 1.5 and 2 will be up tomorrow and the next day! If you want more, you can check out my masterlist here!

It looks... infected, Kil?
Hey Doc Masterlist here
Word Count: 1,900+
Synopsis: You finally think you're getting a break, conversing with fellow experts in your field. As you defend your crew's mentality and maturity, the crewmate you were sure to be the most sane out of the lot of you proves you wrong.
Warnings: surgical talk, mention of a unsanitary piercings, exhausted Doctor, grumpy doctor, gn!reader x Killer, undressing crewmates, medical administration, swearing, crying, comforting, blushing, feelings?
Notes: Okay, this was meant to be a drabble, I swear. Only a bit of fun. Are there feelings now? Is there a little bit of chemistry here, or are they just good friends?
Edit: inspired my real accounts of piercing experiences in the wild by two mutuals (@feral-artistry & @nerium-lil) being flashed by friends.
Tag List: @mfreedomstuff @daydreamer-in-training @sinning-23 @gingernut1314 @i-am-vita @indydonuts @feral-artistry @since-im-already-here @sordidmusings @nerium-lil
“Hey Doc?” a smooth, polite voice called to you from your place sitting on the beach alongside the small medic of the straw-hat crew. You turned to look up at the large polar-bear mink, giving him a soft smile as he politely rang his hands in front of him.
“Yeah, Bepo?” you asked him in response, patting the ground beside you and the hatted reindeer, “What’s on your mind, honey?” He eagerly sat down beside you in a large thump, his radiating body heat bringing you comfort on the sandy shore.
“I-... uh-... I was just wondering,” he scratched the scruff of his neck with his large paw, “What is it like being the medic of the Kid Pirates?” Two forms immediately slump down beside the three of you. The red-headed orca man and his hat-wearing counterpart joining in on your conversation.
“I was curious about that too, Doc,” Shachi confessed, giving your shoulder a playful pat and chuckling, “Your crew are really unhinged. We’ve all been placing bets that it’s mainly STDs and weird intimacy-induced injuries, weren't we Peng?” You rolled your eyes at the remark, looking to the redhead and his companion.
“Is that right?” you offered him a sarcastic response, looking over to Chopper and beckoning him closer to you. “There are children present, I hope you know. Where’s your manners?” A rosy blush immediately grew over Shachi’s cheeks and flushed his embarrassment over his features.
“Sorry, Doc,” Penguin offered for his crewmate, shaking his head with a soft smirk, “Doesn’t make us any less curious, though. What’s it like?” You shook your head, pinching the bridge of your nose and rubbing your waterline with your index finger and thumb.
You looked over at your crewmates, noticing Kid and Killer were missing from the beach-front meeting space and narrowed your eyes at where they should’ve been.
“Honestly, Heart-Pirates, and sweet Chopper,” you cooed down at him and scrunch your nose in glee, “It has been like nothing I could’ve ever dreamed of. Sure, I get my fair share of injuries that could’ve been prevented. A couple of itches that should’ve been avoided if they wore armor into the variety of battlefields - if you catch my meaning.” You shot Shachi and Penguin a knowing look before looking down at Chopper.
“Truly,” you sighed, looking at the dance of lights in the moonlit sky, “I couldn't ask for anything more. I love those weirdos, and I am one myself.” You noted, looking at Bepo and offering him a kind glance, “And they’re not as stupid as you think they are. Give them more credit, please.”
“Ah, I see,” Bepo nodded along at your confession, looking over at his two crewmates who offered you sheepish and apologetic smiles in response. Shachi, Penguin, Bepo, Chopper and you all enjoyed sitting in a very rare silence together, the warmth radiating off the warm sand and having you breathe in a calm tuft of salty air.
As you sat and enjoyed the serenade of sweet bugsong, that silence was interrupted by a heavy trudge of bootheels grinding in the coarse sand. You recognised that trek, looking up into the scarred chest of Massacre Soldier Killer as he inserted himself between Bepo and you, lifting his shirt and revealing his wide chest to the five of you.
“These look even to you?” He asked behind his mask, prompting all five of you to look up at him and the other four of your company immediately recoiled at what they were witnessing. Killer was freshly adorning ball barred piercings thrust through the tips of his nipples, the indents bleeding and beginning to crust over with a soft sheen of puss.
“Kil...” you groaned, shaking your head and sighing, “...I thought we learnt the last time our Captain attempted to gift the crew with piercings. Remember what happened with Quincy’s labret and Heat’s-... uh-...” you looked down at the whimsical and innocent eyes of the reindeer before turning back to Killer, “...ladder.”
“Said he cleaned ‘em this time,” Killer shrugged, gesturing for you to take a closer look at the freshly pierced buds on his chest, “It’s been a week. Needed some fresh eyes to give an honest opinion.” You shook your head, leaning in closer and looking at his pink puckered flesh and groaned.
“They look,” you began sighing and rolling your eyes, “Fucking infected, Kil?” Snickers from Shachi and Penguin didn’t go unnoticed, and you shot them a sneer before shooting the reindeer an apologetic glance.
Standing from your seated position beside the other crew, you gave them a gentle nod to excuse yourself and dragged Killer by his ear towards the Victoria Punk’s infirmary. You muttered under your breath, seething with the fumes of fury with each step you took towards your office doors.
“Here I thought I was gettin’ a fucking break,” you grumbled, shoving Killer into your office and slamming the door shut behind you. “But no,” you uttered sarcastically with a dance of your head, “No, you had to keep me in the dark about this, didn’t you?” You open the drawer and thrust your hands aggressively into the box and get two rubber gloves and angrily thrust them over your wrists.
Your mutters and frustration never ceased, your nose beginning to sniff and your anger teetered on sorrow the longer you looked for the variety of items to clean up the infection. Saline solution, antiseptic ointment, numbing balm to remove the pus-surrounded bars, cotton balls and gauze strips.
Shoulders shaking, you rubbed your eyes with your forearm to calm the sting of fresh tears from falling. Thoughts of what the Heart-Pirates would be saying about you behind your back, your medical degree being the laughing stock of your peers. Your eyes began to swell as you continued choking back your sobs of rage.
“Am I a fucking joke to you all?” you whisper, biting your lip and readying your treatment tray with the items you desired. “All I do is fix stupid mistakes and coddle you lot when you’re hurt. I’m a disgrace to my training, a laughing stock to my field, and a fucking idiot for joining this crew in the first place. I just want a damn break-.”
Before you could continue your monologue of degradation, two strong arms wrapped around your shoulders from behind and squeezed you into his broad chest. You immediately draw your hands up to Killer’s forearms and quiver your lip to stifle your sobs further. He leaned down into your cheek with his mask brushing your face.
“You are none of those things,” he whispered in his calm, soothing voice, “And I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark about Cap’n’s latest project. Thought it wouldn’t happen again, honestly.” You sniffled, leaning your head into his mask and clenching your eyes tightly shut.
He inhaled deeply and slowly, prompting you to do the same, before you both exhaled together. His arms held so much comfort within the contours of his muscles, him being often the crewmate everyone sought out for consolation for their sorrow. After holding you for several moments, you tapped his arm twice to signal for him to release you from his embrace.
“Alright. Shirt off, Kil,” you mumbled softly, attempting to remove the softness you just encountered at the hands of the first-mate, “Let me see what’s going on up close. Can you do that for me?” He nodded, removing his shirt and placing it on the back of your office chair. You usher him over to the surgical bench and gesture for him to sit.
As you dabbed at his skin, you ignored the flood of somber emotions in your chest and shoved them down. Removing the ball-bar piercings and immediately throwing them in a sterilizing sink, you cleaned the wounds and looked vacantly ahead of you. Dressing the wounds in antiseptic and covering them with two broad, patterned band-aids, you gave your final nod at him and pouted.
“All done,” you sniffed, dropping your shoulders and removing your gloves from your hands. “You can put your shirt back on now, Kil. Go get the Captain so I can do him the kindness of scolding him away from the Heart and Straw-Hat pirate crews.” Turning away from him and running your fingers through your hair as he placed his shirt back on, Killer’s arms rewrapped around your body and turned you in his arms immediately thereafter.
He cradled your head into his chest, his body heat and steady heart rate causing your emotions to finally flood over. Finally airing your frustrations, you wrap your arms around as much of him as you could as he soothed you against the embroidered jolly roger of his shirt.
“You wanna stay here for a while?” Killer asked down at you, caressing your hair and smoothing it over, “I can help you color in the patterns you doodle on the bandaids if you want? Keep you company in here until you’re ready to go back to the beach?” You shook your head in his arms, burying your face deeper into his chest and having him hold you for a few moments longer.
Chuckling down at you, he smiled beneath his mask at how vulnerable you allowed yourself to be in the moment. Continuing to soothe over your hair and rub circles into your back, he offered you some further confessions.
“You know we love you, right?” his voice whispered down at you, prompting you to look up at him in his arms. His mask was tilted down at you, the soft glow of his icy blue eyes peeking through the holes in his mask. “So much, Doc. We love you so much.” Your lip quivered as you looked up at him, darting your eyes between where you assumed his were.
“Promise me,” you sniffed, gulping back your sorrow and fixing your eyes up, “If you’re thinking about getting nipple piercings, or any other type of piercing,” you broke yourself away from his grip and huffed, “You’ll come to me for them. I’ll do them properly for you so they don’t end up infected.”
Killer chuckled, shaking his head and glancing down at his patterned gauze. He huffed a curt hum in approval at the design.
“Only if you promise me,” he leaned forward, taking your chin between his thumb and index finger, angling your face up at him, “You’ll come to me when you’re feeling shit. I’ll reassure you, give you a squeeze, and might cook you something if you want.” You flinch away from his grip, waving him out of your office with your hands.
“Yeah, yeah,” you offer him, cleaning up the cotton balls and throwing your instruments into the sterilizing tray, “When I feel like a whiny baby, I know where my nice, comforting daddy is.” You snicker at your own teasing joke, shaking your head and continuing to tidy up your office. Killer lingers in the door, his tone physically smirking in his own glee.
“I would gladly be your nice, comforting daddy,” he whispered huskily from the doorframe, “Anytime you need me to be, baby.” You froze in place, your hands stuttering as you halted tidying up.
Before you had the opportunity to stifle your blush, turn towards Killer, and chastise him for his words, you noticed he was already gone and heading back towards the beach. Groaning, you clapped your palm over your forehead and muffled the shriek from passing through your lips by clamping your mouth tightly shut.
“Great,” you utter sarcastically, “This isn’t gonna be awkward at all.”

heart pirates x sick!reader
"Y/n-ya, I told you to be more careful," Law scolded while checking your temperature with the back of his hand. "This is what happens when you don't dress for the weather." You groaned, feeling guilty. "I know, I know. I just didn't think it would be that cold."
Law sighed, shaking his head. "Well, now you know. Just rest for now I'll send someone to check up on you, ok?" Y/n nodded. After a few minutes, Shachi and Penguin entered the room, carrying a tray with hot tea and a bowl of soup. "Hey, Y/n!" Shachi said cheerfully. "We brought you some soup!!" they both said enthusiastically. The soup however looked far from edible.
Penguin nodded, setting the tray down on the bedside table. "Yeah, it's supposed to help you get better faster."
Bepo peeked his head in, his large, fluffy form almost filling the doorway. "Y/n, are you feeling any better?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.
You managed a weak smile. "A little, thanks to all of you."
Shachi grinned. "Good to hear! I knew we could make ya feel better!!"
Law gave them a stern look. "Quiet down, you two. Y/n needs rest, not a lot of noise." Penguin held up his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. We'll keep it down." he replied with a sly smile.
Bepo carefully made his way to your bedside, sitting down gently. "I brought you a blanket," he said, handing over a soft, warm blanket. "I-It's my favorite, so it should keep you warm."
You took the blanket gratefully, wrapping it around yourself. "Thank you, Bepo. And thanks to all of you. I really appreciate it." Law finished his check-up and gave you a nod. "Just focus on resting and getting better. We'll handle everything else."
"I hope you feel better, Y/n" Bepo said tearfully

As your relationship with Law grows, he only hopes you don't fucking embarrass him. After all, he has an image to uphold as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
This story starts off as short stories between (Y/N), Law and the Heart Pirates, then picks up into the One Piece canon timeline, starting from Punk Hazard. This is a slow-burn Law x Female Reader story!

The Polar Tang smelt like fried eggs.
It was 7 am and Hearts Pirates were just waking up. It was a brand new day, and the crew were looking forward to seeing if they could dock on a new island.
Ikakku made her way into the kitchen first, and she saw you cooking breakfast for the crew. You had your white jumpsuit unzipped with the sleeves tied around your waist. Your white tank top was stained with grease and was clinging to your skin due to sweat.
She sat down facing your direction and rested her elbows on the table, with her cheek leaning on her palm. "Morning (Y/n)!" she greeted you.
You turn your head to see that Ikkaku has arrived. "Morning Ikkaku! Sorry I didn't wake you up, I knew that you wanted to help me today but you looked so peaceful sleeping," you said.
Your crew-mate waved her hand dismissing the apology. "Don't even worry about it. I know you love being in the kitchen by yourself." She glanced at your exposed body. "Shouldn't you change and put your suit back on?" she commented.
You made an annoyed click with your mouth. "You know how annoying these jumpsuits are. I don't know why he insists that we can all do our jobs while wearing a white garbage bag as clothes. I don't care if he sees me like this and gets mad, I can't cook with this shit on." you complained.
The girl behind you giggled, "Get mad? It's more like ogle your almost half-naked body. You know the captain has somewhat of a soft spot for you."
You scoffed. "Captain? We're talking about the guy who sliced me when he found that I put flour and bread in his rice balls?"
"If anyone else did that, they would get thrown out of this sub." Ikkaku defended.
"Oh please. You know the captain is an emotionally constipated man who doesn't take a second glance at anyone."
"You'd be surprised our dear cook. I've seen Captain stare at you last month." Shachi interrupted as he walked into the kitchen with Penguin.
"Shachi, that was because he was going to decapitate (Y/n) for smacking a loaf of bread on his head," Penguin corrected him.
"Oh..." he muttered.
You threw your head back in laughter as you remembered how you accidentally smacked the captain with a bagged loaf of bread because he was somehow caught in between the crossfire of you and Shachi arguing about stolen food portions. That day was the first time your head was separated from your body.
The three crew-mates sitting at the dining table noticed how your cheeks flushed a light pink. They all grinned maniacally.
"Were you thinking of the captain?" Penguin singsonged.
You rolled your eyes as you placed a batch of fried eggs on a plate. "You know I don't have feelings for the captain like that."
"Aww, that's not true," Ikkaku whined.
You continued to batter up a batch of pancakes and poured it into the hot pan in front of you. "Well, I can't lie the captain is good-looking. But I don't just fall in love with someone based on looks you guys, I would want to get to know the person before I would think about committing to a relationship," you explained as you flipped the pancake.
Shachi suddenly straightened his back in a sudden realization. "So you do admit that you find our awesome captain handsome! Why don't you try getting closer to him?" he asked.
You grabbed the plate of eggs from the counter and walked up towards your hungry crew-mates to place it on the table.
"I think the captain would rather eat bread than to get to know me. Besides, I know that he finds me insufferable, but that's because he doesn't know how to have fun. Now, who wants my special fried eggs?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was 10 am, and you just finished cleaning the kitchen and making the crew's lunch. You proudly put your hands on your hips as you scanned the area. You were a proud cook and proud of what you did. Your heart swelled in appreciation that you could use your talents and that your talents were well appreciated within the crew.
Unlike your 3 shitty brothers who always just shoved food down their throats without care. But that wasn't important.
You glanced at Bepo, the captain's favourite crew-mate (your assumption), finishing wiping the dishes clean. The Mink was always around the captain, so often that you swore that they were probably shower buddies. A mental image of Law and Bepo bathing together popped into your head. You stiffened a laugh.
"(Y/n)-san, Captain wanted to request grilled fish and rice for dinner," Bepo said, interrupting your daydream.
You exhaustedly sighed. "Again? This is the third time we had that this week, I swear that my breath permanently smells like fish now."
The Mink turned around to you and lowered his head. "Sorry..."
You gave a halfhearted smile to your crew-mate. "Never mind that I can never get mad at you Bepo, you're one of the few people who help me around the kitchen. Tell the captain that if he wants his favourite dish he needs to come up and ask me personally instead of using you as a communicator."
Bepo profusely nodded. "I'll tell him right away."
As Bepo was going to leave, you stopped him. "Wait," you called up to him. The Bear stopped in his tracks.
You put your hand on your chin and started to think. "I don't want to make that fucking grilled fish and rice dish again. What if I know something about the captain and I can use it to hold against him? That way I can never make those dishes ever again."
Once your idea formed in your head you started to grin evilly and rubbed your hands together like a madman.
Bepo, seeing this unfold in front of him, started to get nervous. "Uh, (Y/n)-san? What are you doing? Why did you stop me?" he asked.
You whipped your head up to face Bepo and walked up in front of him. Putting your hand on the side of your mouth like you were telling a secret, you started to ask, "You're pretty close to the captain right?"
Bepo flinched. "Uhm, yes?"
"And you know a lot about him right? Like his deepest and darkest secrets?"
"Well, I guess so?"
"So, if you tell me something about him, something that he doesn't want anyone to know, you'd tell me in exchange for, let's say, my special sushi recipe?"
Bepo started sweating and you smirked. You knew the Mink bear loved your special sushi recipe, and you knew he could not resist.
"(Y/n)-san... I can't betray the captain like that." he said. The poor bear sounded like he was trying to convince himself not to give in to your temptation.
"Oh? Well, that's too bad, I was going to also make Soba for tonight too, what a shame," you said with fake sadness.
Bepo started to whimper. If there was one thing he didn't play about, it was Soba.
The Mink started to whip his head left and right to see if anyone was listening in to the conversation. Then he leaned down to your level.
"Oh alright, but PLEASE don't tell the captain about this!" he harshly whispered.
You grinned as you crossed your heart. "The information is safe with me."
Bepo hesitated, then he quickly confessed, "The captain is a huge fan of the comic series Sora, Warrior of the Sea! He has a huge collection hidden in his library of books."
You leaned back in surprise, with your smile widening into a perplexed grin. "Our feared captain is a NERD?!"
Bepo frantically waved his paws at you. "(Y/n)-san! Please you're being too loud!" he begged.
You burst out laughing, bending frontwards while your hands were clutching your stomach. Oh, the information that you just obtained was your One Piece! You never expect your stoic and boring captain to be a huge fan of a children's comic series. And he collected the comics too? This was just what you needed to blackmail Law.
You quickly collected yourself from laughing too hard. "Good doing business with you Bepo, you can expect a very good dinner tonight." You said. You winked at him and hurriedly walked out of the kitchen.
"Oh man, what did I do..." he mumbled.
Meanwhile, you were scouring around the Polar Tang to find Law's collection of books. While walking in the corridors of the submarine, you encountered Jean Bart.
"Hey, Jean! Where are you heading to?" you asked the big man.
Jean rubbed the back of his neck. "Hey (Y/n)! I'm heading to the infirmary for my annual checkup with the captain."
The statement gave you a green light. You were going to head to the captain's room to get your hands on those comics no matter what. It may be a big risk but if it means that you wouldn't have to grill fish ever again, so be it.
"Good to know! I'm just heading back to my room, I've been doing a lot of cooking today." You said it as an alibi.
You started to walk past the man. Jean's head followed your direction. He looked confused. "But your shared room is the opposite way...?" he said, watching your form walk further away.
You didn't hear the man. You were hyper-focused on sneaking into the captain's room while he was busy with medical examinations.
Eventually, you came across a double door. There was a sign on the left door that read Trafalgar Law. This must be it.
You slowly grabbed the handle of the right door and twisted it. Pushing the door open you slowly walked into the captain's quarters. It was clean and neat as you expected it to be. The captain was a clean freak, the complete opposite of what you dealt with in the kitchen. On the right of the room was a queen bed, with a nightstand on its left side. There was a decent-sized desk perpendicular to the doors which were filled with scattered papers. To the right of the desk was a tall bookshelf filled with all kinds of books.
Bingo.
You stepped into the room and closed the door quietly behind your back. You hurriedly walked to the bookshelf and started scanning through from top to bottom.
"Archives of Medical Plants... Grand List of Diseases... Mink Autonomy... North Blue Medical Association, dang nothing but medical books," you muttered as you looked through the bookshelf.
Unable to find anything on the bookshelf, you looked around the desk. You opened the drawers hoping to find some comics but found your bounty poster instead.
"Weird, why does he have my poster in there? It doesn't look like he has the rest of the crew's posters." you thought.
You put your hands on your hips and huffed in frustration. "If I were Trafalgar Law, where would I put my precious comic books?" you thought again.
Your eyes soon landed on the nightstand, and a lightbulb went off on your head.
You hurriedly scampered to the nightstand. You immediately opened the bottom drawer and found your One Piece.
In the drawer were 12 volumes of Sora, Warrior of the Sea. You carefully picked up the first volume. It was in pristine condition. You noticed it was covered with a plastic sleeve and you chuckled.
"Oh captain I never thought you would be a nerd. This is so good," you said giddily.
You quickly took the first volume and placed it under your tank top at your back. Then you quickly put on the sleeves of your jumpsuit and zipped it up. You promptly got up and then quickly left the bedroom, quietly closing the door behind your back. You sighed in relief and took in a deep breath until someone spoke up on your left, "Why were you in the captain's room?"
"GAHHHH!!" you screamed. You whipped your head to your left, only to see Penguin leaning up against the wall with a grin.
"Is captain also in there too?" he inquired.
You grabbed onto the man's collar and pushed him against the wall. "Are you crazy? Don't scare me like that! And no, the captain is in the infirmary right now with Jean!" you whispered harshly.
Penguin raised his hands in defeat. "All right all right. But what were you doing in there?"
You released him and took a step back. "Well since you're here, I found the captain's deepest darkest secret," you said grinning.
He gasped and put his hands on his mouth. "You found out about Corazon?!"
You tilted your head to the left. "Cora-who?"
Penguin laughed nervously. "Oh, that, uh never mind."
You huffed, dismissing what the man just said. "I found out that captain is a huge nerd! I have his copy of Sora, Warrior of the Sea hidden on me right now." you snickered.
Penguin looked like he was going to faint. Then you saw him morph into the angriest you had ever seen him, "WHY WOULD YOU TAKE THAT?!" he screamed.
You flinched and his sudden outburst. "Whoa now, it's just blackmail material."
"The captain does not play about touching his comic books!"
You squinted. "Wait...you knew about this?"
The man made a raspberry noise "Of course I did. Bepo, Shachi and I grew up with the captain."
"Ah, that makes sense."
Now Penguin squinted. "Wait a minute, who told you about Captain's collection?"
You nervously laughed. "Ah, Bepo told me."
He groaned. "That fucking bear can't keep his mouth shut," he mumbled.
You dismissively waved your hand. "Never mind him. I bribed him. Now, I know you want to take a peak of this comic with me, don't you Penguin?" you asked.
He scratched the back of his neck. "Well, it won't hurt just to read a bit."
"Great!" you said as you clapped your hands. "Let's head to the kitchen to read!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was now 4 pm and you just finished preparing dinner. You and Penguin delightfully indulged in the first volume of Sora, Warrior of the Sea. As much as you wanted to continue making fun of the captain for liking a kid's comic series, you found yourself enjoying it as well. But, you reminded yourself that the reason why you took the comic book was to blackmail your captain into never suggesting rice and grilled fish ever again. So you placed it in your shared room with Ikkaku.
You cleaned up the remaining dishes and placed them next to the sink. You made your special sushi and Soba, as per Bepo's request. You hurriedly walked out of the kitchen to go to your room, eager to read the rest of the comic before using it for blackmail.
However, when you entered your shared room and checked your bed, where you hid the book under your covers, you couldn't find it. You started to panic and started throwing your stuff around to find it. You knew Ikkaku wouldn't have taken it, she was in the boiler room all day so she wouldn't have entered the room at all.
"Fuck! It was just here! Where did it go?!" you spluttered.
You started to check your desk until you heard a knock on the door.
"One moment!" you called out.
The knock came in again, but this time someone spoke. "It's me (Y/n)-ya. Can I speak to you?"
Your blood ran cold. This was the worst timing ever, and now you were going to die today because of it.
You sped walked to the door and opened it and saw your captain standing at the door. He was wearing his usual black coat, but this time he wasn't donning his signature hat.
You laughed out of nervousness. "H-hey captain! How can I help you?" you asked.
The raven-haired man raised his eyebrows as he noticed your nervousness. "Is something the matter (Y/n)-ya? Are you unwell?" he inquisitively asked.
You waved your hand. "Nooo, I'm all okay captain. Why did you come to see me?" you said trying to change the subject.
Law wasn't convinced by your statement but continued anyway. "Bepo told me to come to you directly for food suggestions." He was struggling to meet your eyes. "Well, you told him to tell you and you're right. I should be approaching you personally for things that I request. It isn't fair to dismiss you when you're one of our important crew members." he continued. It seemed like he was trying to apologize. However, that was the least of your worries because you had a lost comic book to find and if you didn't find it soon you were good as dead.
You let out a forced laugh. "Oh it's nothing, captain, no problem, I'll make your fish and rice tonight, let me just head to the kitchen to make it right now!"
You attempted to walk past the doctor but he gently pushed you back in the room and entered with you. He promptly closed the door behind him and took a step towards you, leaning close to your face.
"(Y/n)-ya, you're hiding something aren't you?" he said, staring into you with a strange gleam in his eyes.
The air suddenly felt hot and you started sweating profusely. You looked off to the side and pursued your lips together. "I don't know what you're talking about captain."
The man's face fell into a frown. "You're a terrible liar (Y/n)-ya. You can't keep a straight face."
Your face turned red in embarrassment. Then suddenly, Law used his Devil Fruit powers to materialize the comic book into his hands. You felt like you were going to pass out.
"Oh, so you have no idea how this ended up in your room?" he said mockingly.
"H-how did you, I-i-" you stuttered in shock. Then you suddenly remember again why you took it in the first place.
"HA! I took it because I found out that you're a huge nerd! You're a huge fan of Soba, Warrior of the Sea! I will tell everyone in this submarine that you like children's comics if you continue to ask me to make your wretched rice and grilled fish again!" you said proudly. You put your hands on your hips and glared at Law, thinking that the blackmail worked.
There was a pregnant pause. But then Law did unspeakable. For the first time, he burst out laughing.
The captain was genuinely laughing. A smile adorned his face, with his eyes crinkling up in a crescent shape. This was a big shock to you because you were never met with laughter when it came to Law, only scowls, yelling and threats of violence.
But for some reason, your heart gently fluttered at the sight. To see the captain in such a new light was... interesting to say the least.
The captain collected his breath and then started to talk. "First of all, who's Soba?"
"Tonight's dinner menu," you answered with no hesitation.
The man sighed, "No, you said Soba the Great Warrior of the Sea, but it's Sora." he corrected you.
"Oh fuck." you thought. "My hungry ass was thinking thinking about soba."
"Second of all," the doctor continued, "why do you have my book?"
You were pissed off. Did he not realize that you just tried to blackmail him? "Captain, you do realize that I was trying to blackmail you right?"
Law smirked. "Is that so? Well, it's not blackmail if everyone here knows about it," he said.
You swear your brain stopped working. This whole time your plan failed because everyone but you knew that the captain was into superhero comics. You were about to feed the crew shitty food for the entire week.
Noticing that you weren't responding, the man continued to speak. "Also, Penguin told me that you enjoyed reading through it."
You gritted your teeth. "That fucking snitch, I can never tell him anything!" you muttered.
Law chuckled. "Don't worry, I blackmailed him into telling me what happened. I felt that something happening on my submarine."
So everyone's blackmail worked but yours huh? It's like the gods wanted to see you fail.
Law suddenly put down the comic book and dropped it on your bed. Then the doctor suddenly put his tattooed hand behind your neck and pulled you forward so that his mouth was next to your left ear. His cheek was leaning up against yours and you felt yourself blush and heat up from the contact.
"Why are you so adamant on pushing my buttons (Y/n)-ya?" he whispered in your ear.
You felt his goatee scrape against the bottom side of your cheek and you felt your cheeks heat up even more.
"I-I was just-" you stuttered.
"Do you want to get thoroughly punished? It's like you're asking me to punish you." he interrupted. You felt his hot breath in your ear and you swore that you were going to pass out then and there.
The doctor let go of your neck to place both hands on your shoulders and took a look at you. You couldn't tell if he was angry or not. His eyes showed a different look that you were unfamiliar with. It was like he wanted to devour you and throw you out at the same time. The man started shaking from anger for a brief moment, then he stopped and sighed in defeat.
"Your punishment is to read all 12 volumes of Sora with me," he said, finally breaking the silence.
You blankly stared at your captain. You expected that you were going to be kicked out of the crew. But a comic book club with the captain? that was new. "You want me to what?"
"I'm not repeating myself (Y/n)-ya. Since you wanted my books so bad, you will read it with me and talk about it with me," he ordered.
You started to smile out of confusion. "Hey...you just want to talk about Sora with someone don't you?" you questioned him in a teasing tone.
Law started to scowl as his ears started to turn red. "This isn't about me, I am punishing you for your ridiculous behaviour again," he growled.
You shook your head and laughed. You brushed off the man's hands on your shoulders and started to walk out of the room. "You're so cute, captain. Fine, for once I agree to do your punishment only because I think it's interesting. Come on now, dinner is going to start soon and I still have to make your disgusting rice and grilled fish meal."
"I AM NOT CUTE!" you heard the tattooed doctor shout behind your back. You didn't see it but his ears turned even more red because of your compliment. Nonetheless, the man started to follow you out of the room.
But as soon as you opened the door, you were greeted by Ikkaku standing right in front of you. Her eyes were popping out of her head as she saw both you and the captain in the room. She started giggling, as she put both of her hands on her mouth. "Oh my god."
You rolled your eyes and the captain walked passed you your fellow female crew-mate. "I was just questioning (Y/n)-ya, nothing to get worked up over with." he coolly said as he walked down the hall of the submarine.
"Girl, what happened in there?" she asked giddily.
You side-eyed the girl as you started to walk past her as well. “I tried blackmailing the captain but it didn't work.”
Ikkaku frowned and started to follow you. "Come on, what really happened?" she questioned. But you ignored her words as you started to journey into the kitchen.
You giggled as you walked down the hall. For some reason, Shachi's words replayed in your head.
"Why don't you try getting closer to him?"
A small started to form on your lips. It didn't seem like a bad idea at all.
