A/N: I know it's been a while since I wrote anything and this may not get traction because it is two OCs in a fandom, rather than established characters, but I hope you'll give this a shot! If you missed the bios on these two, you can read it here!
This covers the Spending Xmas Alone in @storiesofsvu bingo!
Also, let me know if you'd like to be on the taglist for these two!

Pairing: Benoit Montclair x Amelia Dansworth
~~~~~~~~~~
Amelia sat at her desk, typing away. Though it was Christmas Day, she had decided to come into the office--there was work to be done and if she didn't do it before New Years, she'd be worried for the whole vacation.
Besides, she wasn't doing anything for Christmas anyways; just sitting in her flat, drinking hot chocolate and watching some cheesy romcom on tv.
This seemed less pathetic. At least she thought so.
Suddenly, there was a soft knock on her open office door, and she jumped in surprise; she was supposed to be in the office alone today while everyone was off for the holidays.
But standing in the doorway was none other than Mr. Benoit Montclair, looking handsome as hell, even with his brow furrowed in concern, dark eyes on her.
"I thought everyone had the next week and a half off?" he said gently in his deep voice. He came into her office fully, standing in front of her desk.
Amelia blinked at him before responding, "they do--we do. But I wanted to finish this little financial snafu and it couldn't wait until the new year--"
"So you decided to come in on Christmas Day? No other day would suit you?"
She couldn't help but notice how he skipped over the "financial snafu;" did Mr. Montclair really trust her that much?
"I, uh, I don't have any family or anything to celebrate with. So, I thought I'd just get this done now." Heat rises to her cheeks, so Amelia switched it on him. "Why are you here, sir?"
Ben gave her a curt smile, lips pressed in a thin line. "My father is a workaholic and my sister lives in Japan."
"Oh...I'm sorry...."
He shrugs. "I don't really celebrate the holidays, anyways. And, like you mentioned, there is work to be done."
Running out of things to say, Amelia goes quiet. Her eyes slowly roam over her boss; from his Italian leather shoes, up his tall frame, and taking in his expensive suit--it probably cost more than her rent for a full year.
But what stopped her scan was a white envelope clutched in his hand.
Ben's eyes followed hers to the envelope, and he holds it up, glancing at it as if he also forgot he was holding. "Oh!" he started, "when I saw that you were logged in on site, I thought I'd bring you your Christmas bonus--so you wouldn't have to wait for the post like everyone else."
"Thank you, sir!" Amelia replied in shock. She had been looking forward to her bonus; it helped pay some of the end-of-the-year bills.
He walked closer to her desk, arm outstretched. But just as Amelia reached out for it, he flipped it out of reach. Confused, she looked up into his face, and he smiled softly at her.
"Do me a favor? Take the rest of your vacation off. I don't want to see yo here again before the new year, understand?"
The intensity in his dark eyes paired with that soft smile has her melting. "I--yes sir. And, um, you too?" She wasn't quite sure why she added that, but she couldn't stop the words from tumbling past her lips.
Ben's smile grew, showing a line of pearly white teeth. "I will try my best. It's hard when you're the boss."
And with that, he held out the envelope in his long, thin fingers. As soon as Amelia took it, Ben turned and headed out the door.
"Happy Christmas," he called over his shoulder before disappearing down the hallway.
"And happy new year," Amelia replied, sitting back. With her boss's departure, she felt a tension leave her body.
Shaking her head to clear it, she started typing again. But the thought of her Christmas bonus sitting on her desk kept pulling her attention. She knew she had to look at the amount, so she could better plan her bill payments.
Amelia used her envelope cutter to break the tape and opened it to reveal the cheque inside. But as she gazed at the amount, she almost dropped it in disbelief.
Her normal paycheque was £5000 a month; about £1k more than an entry position. She had been expecting a £100 bonus. Instead, she had received double her monthly amount.
This could pay bills for a few months! she thought, a lump in her throat. There had to be some mistake--but no, also in the envelope was a letter.
Eyes skimming over the words, Amelia found that Mr. Montclair gave her that bonus--as well as "other, faithful employees," the letter said--out of his own pocket.
It took her a few moments to process before she was able to continue working. But the rest of the day and well into the night, Amelia had a floaty feeling about her.
Changing Faces
Minor Blood/Gore - A Discovery of Witches x SAS Rogue Soldiers
Pat Riley, Augustin Jordan, Baldwin Montclair/Male OC
@adowbaldwin @booksoncanvas
Pat Riley kept polishing his boots and studiously ignoring the two men locked in a fierce whispered argument beside him.
He had glanced askance out the corner of his eye a few times now and caught the ginger staring at him with an intense, cold expression. The blonde had come and gone a few times, doing duties, and whenever he returned he would try to pry the other man from his perch in the shadows. And the argument would resume.
'Can I help you sir?'
The blonde smirked at his friend, and strode over. The ginger twitched like he wanted to step forward, but chose not to, glaring instead at his companion’s back.
'Not really.’ The Free French man shrugged apologetically. His accent was noticable by its absence; his voice was nondescript, but there was an almost lyrical lilt to his words, like poetry. ‘My friend thought he knew you; you look exactly like someone we've met before'
'Someone good?'
No, unfortunately. He was-..' the man fumbled loosely for a polite turn of phrase, failed to find one, and gave up. '- a monster.'
‘Well I hope I don’t prove to be one’
The blonde smiled. ‘I hope so too.’
________________________________________________________________
He found out later that their names were Benoit Ferrand and Martin Bouchard. Martin was fair-haired and genial, a sergent that could raise the spirits of his men effortlessly, and made a genuine effort to get to know everyone under his command.
Benoit was a captain, ruthless and pragmatic, and with a fiery temper that could be curbed with a look from Martin. Pat felt that it was another Paddy and Eion situtation, and kept his thoughts to himself.
He had even more to think about when the rest of the Free French came back from patrol. Augustin Jordan had been out leading a patrol, and hadn’t been told about the new commanding officers who had arrived with fresh recruits.
Pat watched him stiffen, his eyes roving over the pair as they approached the truck. Benoit nodded, stiff and formal, and Augustin returned the gesture, shrinking in on himself a little like he was trying to appear smaller than he was.
Interesting.
He showed the same deferance to Martin as well, although he shook the other man’s hand instead of bowing. They were clearly communicating with each other although Pat could barely see their lips moving as they talked.
...oh.
Pat’s heart jumped slightly. He was still getting used to having Augustin around; he wasn’t nearly as concerned about the vampire as he had been when they found out about his condition, but adding two more into the mix, especially ones that appeared to have senority over him...well, he was definately uneasy.
________________________________________________________________
Pat spat blood onto the sand, dribbling most of it down his chin and onto his collar as Baldwin stared down at him with a blank expression.
'Morning.’ He drew a rasping breath. ‘Fancy meeting you here.'
The plane had caught them by surprise, straffing the trucks and causing them to scatter. The rest of the patrol had gotten away but Pat had missed the obvious drop in the sand dune in front of them and before even Baldwin’s lightning-fast reflexes could save them they had pitched forward into nothing.
He remembered hands shoving him clear of the driver’s side door and then darkness.
'You should..leave me here and..and go get help'
'Don't be stupid.’
Baldwin sat down on the sand beside him, resting a salvaged machine gun in his lap. Behind them, the sun was setting, the crumpled remains of the truck quietly smoking away.
‘Martin would never forgive me if I left you here alone.'
'How long have I got?'
Baldwin glanced at him.
'..not too long. Another two hours.'
It was. No relief, no joy; no sorrow or anger either, just a quiet, calm peace in the face of the inevitable.
Pat thought about the pass in his pack for Cairo and hoped that Jim would use it wisely. They’d joked about seeing the girls at the Empire Club, but they were sure they wouldn’t get very far before they found better entertainment elsewhere. He hoped Jim was smiling when he raised a toast to him.
They lapsed into a comfortable silence for a while, the sound of Pat’s rasping breathing mingling with the hiss and pop of the now-destroyed car. The plane didn’t come back, which was a relief, but Pat suspected it was because he had been lying unconcious for so long that whenever it had passed overhead previously it hadn’t seen any survivors.
Baldwin shifted in the sand and glanced down at him again.
'Have you figured out what we are?’
Pat nodded, and lapsed into a coughing fit. Baldwin waited politely for him to finish.
‘When?'
'Augustin.'
It was all he could manage around the liquid clogging his throat.
'I suppose we couldn't hide forever. Not in such cramped quarters.' Baldwin’s fingers fiddled with a few scuffed marks on the barrel of the gun as he tried to come up with the rights words.
'Martin thinks I should offer immortality to you.’ Baldwin scoffed lightly at something only he could see in his mind’s eye. ‘An immortal life.. as long as your enemies don't get too close to you first.'
'I'd consider it'
'Of course you would, you're dying'
'Still, it's not like I've got anywhere to be right now.'
Pat settled back into the sand and watched the stars come out above them. Phantom grass beneath his fingers whisked him back to Cumbria, the scent of ashwood and his mother’s primsoses from the window box outside the living room and the chatter of the neighbours echoing through the wall. He missed the chance to miss home.
Two fingers stretched towards the vampire, and Pat nodded as Baldwin slid closer.
'Are you sure? I need verbal consent before I even agree to attempt this'
'Attempt?' Pat croaked, drily.
'It hasn't always gone well, in the past'
'I'm sure.’ Pat bit through his lip as he half-crawled, half-dragged himself up into the other man’s lap and collapsed back down. ‘Don't mean to outrun the reaper, just delay him a bit.'
'And you're sure? You're ready?'
'Ready as I'll ever be. Let's do this'
'Alright.’ Baldwin helped him get comfortable again, and wiped some of the gunk away from his neck. Pat shivered at the brush of cold fingers against his skin.
‘This is going to be excruitiating.'
Pat nodded.
A Spark in the Darkness (Part 7)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Baldwin Montclair/OC
Summary: Baldwin reveals his true existence and their relationship is realized.
Warnings: This chapter contains implied domestic violence. Please tread with caution.
Masterpost - Part Six
Christmas holiday for Alexandra consisted of the usual activities such as exchanging gifts, and eggnog. Her father’s fondness for her sister’s boyfriend was evident, they basked in his approval. Honestly, it was disheartening how cold he was towards Baldwin, which he didn’t even know, and how he was towards Mark. This time of the year was also unbearable for another reason, it always reminded her of the loss of her mother. The only reprieves she had was when Baldwin would call, she wholeheartedly looked forward to his calls, she knew he adored her.
He invited her to dinner once he arrived back in London. Dinner was beyond wonderful and took place at another restaurant filled will well dressed patrons. They spent it fully absorbed in each other’s attention.
The drive to Baldwin’s place was filled with adoring looks and touching. The interior of his penthouse exuded luxury. He led her to the main living room and poured them both a drink - red wine. His demeanor changed from the confident, and frankly sexy man, he was more hesitant.
“Baldwin?” she asked concerned and she sat next to her on the couch
He contemplated for a minuet “Lucius..” he answered noticing the inquisitive look on her features “My entire name is, Lucius Sigéric Benoit Christophe Baldwin de Clermont”.
“That’s quite a name” she responded not sure to what reaction he was looking for.
He paused measuring his next words carefully “Alexandra...I...I’m not what you think I am!”
“What you are?” She asked completely confused
“Alexandra...I’m not human…” he paused
“Not human? Than what are you?…” she didn’t quite know what to think
“A vampire” he spoke his gaze at the floor, he couldn’t bare to look at her. He feared what her expression was.
“Vampire?” She inquired “Do you drink blood?” She quipped sarcastically
“Alexandra!” He exclaimed and her expression changed instantly at the intensity in his gaze as he rose from the sofa.
“You’re serious.” She said in astonishment considering her next words as he turned his gaze to the fire.
“I shouldn’t have told you” he whispered shaking his head “It’s too soon”
She slowly rose from the sofa and stepped closer to where he was standing, he sensed her approaching and hesitantly turned towards her.
“Baldwin...Lucius…” she wasn’t sure what to address him anymore.
“Baldwin.” he quietly corrected her “It’s the name I go by currently”
“Baldwin.” She spoke with conviction stepping directly in front of him “I know monsters...and you’re not one” he observed to inquisitive look on his face as she stepped backwards and attempted to unzip her dress.
“What are you doing?” He asked concerned laced in his voice
“I need you to see.” she responded turning around beckoning for his assistance which he granted.
He deftly slid the zipper down which revealed more of her skin to his prodding eyes, and then he saw them the angry red scars on her otherwise perfect skin. He reluctantly brushed his fingertips against them which elicited a small gasp from her due to the sudden and coolness of his touch. The blood pounded in his ears as his blood boiled. Someone had harmed her, that was clear, and he would kill them!
Her quiet sniffles temporarily drew Baldwin from his anger at the realization that she was crying. “Cor meum” he whispered to her coaxing her to face him “Look at me” he whispered as her tear filled eyes met his “I will never harm you, you’re under my protection now” he whispered cupping her face with his strong and placing and kissing her, she didn’t resist.
By the look in his eyes, she knew it was true. She was safe after so many years of pain. After she gathered herself, Baldwin drove her back home and they agree to meet again the next day.
“Cor meum, what you called me last night” she inquired as she slid into the seat next to him “It’s Latin” she paused her eyes lighting up in revelation “...You’re Roman?” She asked “I’m sorry” she apologized seeing his amused look.
“Why are you apologizing?” inquiring as he drove off “I divulged a great deal to you.”
“As did I.” She replied staring off into the distance as he continued driving.
He looked at her adoringly “I’m fortunate you even agreed to see me again,” his voice had a hint of vulnerability as he reached over to take her hand.
How could she not, something was pulling them together.
“Mating…?” The shock was evident in her voice, although it provided some sort of explanation for the feelings she’s had. She leaned back against the sofa “Like...animals?”
“Gods, no!” He laughed “We’re more dignified than that!” He taking a seat on the table across from her.
“Than what comes next?” She pried even though she already knew
“We give ourselves to each other, completely.” He answered his expression never wavering “and usually marriage.” He added for good measure. “Alexandra, cor meum, vampires stay mated for the rest of our lives.” His expression softened as he took her hands in his.
“Eternity is a long time,” she paused meeting his gaze “but I’m...I won’t live forever” she continued training off her gaze become solemn.
“Don’t ever doubt us.” He responded moving to sit beside her, “If you’ll have me, I’ll cherish you for eternity.”
“Marriage?” She finally spoke, “My father’s not going to like that at all!”
“That’s what your concerned about?” He implored “Not about…” she cut him off with a passionate kiss.
They spent tonight wrapped in each other's arms, giving themselves wholly to each other and perhaps for the first time in her life she knew what it felt like to make love to a man who truly loved her. Despite all of the love he thought he felt for others, it paled in comparison for his love for her.
Baldwin woke with Alexandra fast asleep against him. He shifted so that his arm was around her and so she laid on his chest. She stirred due to the sudden shift in her position and blinked her weary eyes as the sun struck them.
“Good morning” he whispered into the top of her head “Did I wake you?” She mumbled in response he body still fatigued from the nights activities, he could tell she was deep in contemplation “What are you thinking” he inquired running his fingers down her bare shoulders to her hips before proceeding to more intimate areas. He loved the sounds of pleasure she made.
They emerged from the bedroom a few hours later thoroughly satisfied and somewhat bathed, hair still damp from their shower.
“Are you being...domestic?” She asked her surprise as he moved about the kitchen. She had always seen him in suites and his current ensemble of dark denim and a dark sweater was a welcome sight.
“I’m making breakfast,” he retorted seeing her amused
“This keeps getting better!” She exclaimed eyeing him teasingly as he walked around the counter and scooped her up in his arms and nuzzled her neck.
“What do I do with you, Mrs. Montclair” he mumbled into her neck
“Mrs…” she asked accusatory
“Are you upset?” He asked moving to gaze into his eyes
“No...It’s just…” she asked
“To all creatures we are married,” he paused to asses her reaction “To humans we aren’t...yet” he continued “All the paperwork and ceremony” he huffed reluctly parting from her.
He paused before departing the kitchen and disappearing into his office. It wasn’t long before he reappeared “We need to make it official” he said taking a knee in front of her and presenting a black box and opening it to reveal a breathtaking Thai Ruby surrounded by diamonds. Alexandra was rendered speechless “It was given to my step-mother by my father when they mated, ages ago.” He took the ring from its box and placed it on her ring finger, as her emotions took over her. He rose to his feet and embraced her.
Much to her surprise Baldwin was an excellent cook, they gave each other adoring looks over coffee and omelets. The adoration turned to pure wanton lust, which he explained had to do with the intense mating extinct of vampires. She didn’t deny him, she had no reason to.
Baldwin de Clermont
His full name and other names are Lucius Sigéric Benoit Christophe Baldwin de Clermont, Baldwin de Clairmont, Baldwin Montclair. Origin of name Baldwin has Anglo-Saxon and Old German origins, meaning “bold friend”.  Baldwin’s date of birth was c. 82 B.C., in the month of August and his astrological birth sign is Leo. Baldwin was reborn in September 52 :B.C. so his astrological rebirth sign is Virgo.
Baldwin is a large, burly vampire. He appears to be in his late twenties or early thirties. He has ginger hair, an implacable expression, and a quiet command of authority. When Baldwin enters a room, everybody else sits up straighter. He is a member of the Congregation and the Knights of Lazarus. Baldwin is full-blooded son of Philippe de Clermont and head of the de Clermont family. His blood brothers include Hugh and Godfrey de Clermont, and Matthew is his stepbrother. He is fond of women but does not have a life mate, only a large number of ex-girlfriends.
Baldwin Montclair, the name by which he is known in the financial markets, is Philippe de Clermont's only surviving full-blooded son and the heir to his legacy. As head of the de Clermont clan since Philippe's death, Baldwin rules the family with an iron fist. He is a master strategist, often knows more than others think he does, and operates more subtly than he is given credit for. A formidable enemy, Baldwin is always operating on two levels: openly as a warrior and a prince and covertly as a savvy politician. In some ways he is very similar to his father, Philippe: handsome, loves war, loves the company of women and is not afraid of their power. Baldwin is not as charming as Philippe was, however, and is often compared unfavorably with his sire. Baldwin's relationships with his sisters and with Ysabeau's children are tense and competitive.
Baldwin's relationship with Matthew is especially difficult as the two men are very different in temperament. Baldwin is impatient with Matthew's intellectual side and wishes he would just give up his scientific work and be the lethal killer that is so useful to have in the family. He openly disapproves of Matthew's taste in friends, especially his stepbrother's propensity to befriend daemons and share family secrets with them. And Baldwin definitely doesn't like Matthew's relationship with Diana Bishop—though, oddly, Baldwin does not disapprove of the witch herself.
Baldwin was originally born in the Roman Empire and became a soldier in the vast Roman army. His skills as a soldier brought him to the attention of Philippe de Clermont, who recruited him into his clan and made him a vampire. Baldwin grew tired of fighting and discovered that empires could rise and fall according to their cash flow. From that point on, he preferred to fight with money rather than traditional weapons and has played a role in the establishment and breakup of every national power in the world ever since.
A Relationships of Equals
No spoilers on any of the books, as I’ve only read the first.  Hope you enjoy
She slapped him!  He was stunned at first, but then regained his composure.
“You may treat your lackey’s like that.  You may treat the other members of your congregation like that.  But so help me Lucius Sigéric Benoit Christophe Baldwin de Clermont, you will never treat me like that again. I will go.”
Baldwin shot her a wry smile.
“I will leave and never return.  And don’t think you will be able to hunt me down.  Even your senses have their limits.”
“Is that a threat Rose?” Before she knew it he was behind her grasping her wrists.
“It is, but not like the ones you’ve been sending lately.  Let go.  You’re hurting me.”  Rose said the last part quietly as she tried to wriggle from his grasp, all the fight had gone out of her.
Their relationship had always been a volatile one.  Stemming from Baldwin’s stern nature and her unpredictability and mistrust of people. They were both stubborn to a fault. Hot headed, they would both react first before thinking.  They were both unmoving when they had made up their mind.  He had met Rose a few years ago.  A member of the aristocracy, or what was left of it, Rosemarie Kent had a charmed life.  Or so it would appear on the outside.  Rosemarie knew what she should do, what her station in life meant for her to do.  Her father trained her in the old ways.  She was trained to look down on everyone that wasn’t what she was, elite.  Whether he was present or not, his feelings toward his daughter were distant.
Something sifted in Rosemarie’s life when her father passed away.  It was felt all the way back at The Congregation.  Magic tied in with a mystery.  They had received reports of her, a new talent.  Baldwin was sent to investigate.  Not sure why he, the lead, and a Vampire was sent, he grumbled all the way there.
What he found was astounding.  She wasn’t anything, but had a keen sense of the world around her.  Her spirit seemed to be tied with the Earth.  She could weave threads of magic about herself, glow with them, and express them through art, through dance, through whatever she really put her mind to do.  It was daemon, witch, and human all mixed into one extraordinary creature.
That’s how Baldwin treated her, since he first met her, a creature, a play thing, something to be entertained by.
Baldwin smelled the building up of her English resolve.  The fiery spark that had given rise to the slap was out. Extinguished by his treatment of her.  He didn’t want to crush her.  He could easily, but this last fight had effect both of them.
“Perhaps you’re right.” Baldwin let her go.  “Hey. Please look at me.”  This was new thought Rose.  She hesitated before turning around.  “How can we work together?”
“Just what the hell does that mean?”  Rose was really confused now.
“I mean.  I’m…”
“Baldwin Montclair. Don’t say it.  Don’t you say it!”  The spark was back.  He could smell her.  Rose retreated to the other side of the room.
“Why not Rose? Why can’t I? You’re the one person who understands.”
She crossed her arms. A sign of protection.  A sign that said that she was scared.
“Why? Oh I don’t know?” She tried to sound incredulous, but inside she was near breaking. “Maybe because we fight all the time.  Maybe because you treat me like a doll to be taken up and put down as you fancy.  Because you’re just standing there looking menacing.”
Baldwin chuckled, they both chuckled.  “Menacing? Me?  I’ll try and work on that.”  He visibly soften, relaxing and slowly took a step toward her.
“Yes you. You are menacing.”
“And what about you? You give out just as much as you take.” He slowly took another step.
“That’s just it.  Like I said.  We fight all the time.  I don’t want to fight.  I can’t be, I can’t do this.  It isn’t healthy.” Her arms came down, but her stance did not change.  He could tell she was frightened.  The worry filled her face.  Baldwin closed the distance between them then, and placed his hands on her arms.  Willing her to believe him.
“Look. I know what’s happened in the past, as well as you.” Baldwin stiffened as she interrupted.
“The very recent past. It was not five minutes ago that you tried to control me.”
Baldwin sighed. Tempers were still high.  “Yes you’re right.  And before you say anything else, I’m not placating you. What if I could, wanted to even, change?”
She laughed. A staccato, musical sound, but a laugh none the less and he visibly stiffened again.  “A 1500 year old vampire and an emotionally distant human change?”
“You’re not just any human Rose.  You can pull the magic from everything around you and bend it to shape your every whim. I, on the other hand, well let’s just say it will take work. But I’d like to try?  I’d like to know what a relationship is that isn’t controlling. One where someone can acknowledge that there are two very powerful people here.”
Rose set her jaw. “And the fighting?”
“Are we fighting now?” He couldn’t help himself and dipped in to smell her.  Now it was her turn to stiffen.  The dark clouds gathering in her eyes.  But he wasn’t threatening.  Oh he could. Baldwin could make you feel like his presence was a threat and his taste of you was a promise of exactly what he could do.  She had witnessed it.  She had experienced it.
Baldwin watched her. Watched the storm clouds gather. This was when he would normally thunder away.  They would each simmer alone until they were done and it was safe to come back out. They would act as if nothing happened, until the next time they got into it.  Baldwin continued to look her in the eyes.  Eventually the storm stilled, but did not clear.  He could see it, just at the surface.  He cocked his head to the side, gave a small smile and dipped lower. He stopped inches from her lips, wondering what her lips on his would feel like.  He could sense her resolve fluctuating.  Saw her eyes flutter, a single tear escaping the dam she had put in place.  It was all he needed.
“I don’t think I can feel.” Her sentence was stopped by his kiss.  A gentle one.  Baldwin had even surprised himself.
They broke apart, Baldwin still staying within inches of Rose’s lips.  “You can’t. You’ve said it yourself, by your actions.  You will only be with another vampire.” Baldwin’s lips where on hers again, this time more urgently.
Rose put her hands on his chest for a minute before gently pushing him away.  She tried to move to the side.  His hand sought hers and found it, giving it a slight tug.  When she turned back to him the tears had started to flow.  “What if I’m emotionally incapable?  I get anger, I understand it.  But this? I don’t understand.  I don’t know how to.”  He enveloped her in his embrace.  The kiss was longer and when it ended salt remained on his tongue.
She stared blankly at him before rushing from the room and out of the house.
Baldwin let her run. She needed time to catch the threads swirling around her.  It was true. He had told her small pieces of his life.  He had told her his resentment of his brother.  It being fresh because of the fact that his brother Matthew had mated with a witch.  What exactly were his feelings and when had they changed.  Rose was intriguing, fun to play with, and good company.  She was trained in the arts of entertaining and she truly was.
In recent months however she had felt comfortable enough to open up, bits and pieces.  Sure, Baldwin had suspected the hurt and fury that she carried inside.  It wasn’t hard to see, that was part of her power.  Her powers were part witch and part daemon.  Born of a human it was an interesting thing to see.  Even Baldwin himself, didn’t realize when his reasons had changed.  A few months ago he stopped agitating her.  Stopped the retorts that were so quick to come.  Rose hadn’t seen a difference.  He’d still love to debate her on other things.  He was truly repentant for the way he had treated her in the past and had tried to make it up to her.
Their last major one, the one that got them into this mess was one felt so strongly. Baldwin was right, and had argued his point.  Rose had thought he was controlling her, when all he wanted to do was protect her.  She had slapped him, the fire burning with in her lighting his righteous one.  In truth he didn’t really know how to treat another either, but he would try, for her.
His attention was turn from his thoughts by a light wind.  He smiled as it played with his hair.  The whisper in it said Rose was ready.  Out he walked to her favorite thinking spot.
Rose stood with her arms crossed and her back to the house, looking out over the pond.  Could she really do this?  His behavior of late had been different.  Was he learning how to work with her instead of against her? And what of his controlling tendencies? What of her slap?  She had resorted to violence to get it into his head that she could make decision about people on her own.  Rose sighed, the storm she had felt inside of her subsiding. The wind she had sent to him let her know he was there.
She hung her head, but did not turn around to face him.  “The slap was unforgivable.”
“Rose, it’s already forgiven.  I can be hard headed sometimes.  That’s the first time you’ve apologized.  Normally we just go on as if nothing happened.”
Rose shook her head. “Well I’ve never slapped you.  I’ve become my father. I swore I would never become him. I don’t want a life full of fighting.” Here her voice broke. They both stood still for a few minutes.
Baldwin chuckled. He was turning into another man.  “Did it ever occur to you that I love to spar? Just as much as you? Besides the energy you give off when you get worked up can light up an entire house without electricity! I can keep a cool head when I need to.”
“Were you deliberately fighting with me, Baldwin Montclair?  Taking the opposite side just to quarrel, so you could see that energy?” Rose swiped at her eyes. “Uh!  I can’t do this.” She turned her hands covering her face.
Baldwin closed the distance between them. “Now who’s looking to quarrel? Rosemarie Kent, you are baffling!” Rose dropped her hands and studied him.  Was he telling the truth, were his emotions real? Baldwin could tell she was studying him, he hoped he made a favorable report. “Mostly it was because I didn’t want to back down.  One of the reasons I’m…one of the reasons I’m here, now, is because you don’t either.  We are equals even if you’re not a vampire.”
“I’m afraid Baldwin.”
“I know.” He wrapped his arms around her again.  “You needn’t be.”
Rose finally calmed, stilling in his arm.  “You were the first to call me Rose.”
“I was just the first to listen. Now will you hear it?”
She nodded and swept her eyes down.  He lifted her chin back up so she could study him as he said it.  “Rosemarie Georgina Kent. I’m falling for you.”
Rose bit her lip and looked down again.
“I know that you aren’t ready yet. That is all I can say until we prove that we can work together. I want you to know that.  As a vampire to acknowledge anything else would be a commitment for life. One that we both should be ready to enter into. Now Miss. Kent I’d really like to kiss you again.”
Her head rose as his lowered.  Their lips met in the middle for a sweet kiss.  Rose’s arms lifted and fit around his neck while his hands lowered to her waist bringing her impossibly closer.  The kiss deepening until they broke apart.
“Did it just get warmer?” Baldwin chuckled.  “Now to explain you, us really, to The Congregation.”  He stepped back and ran his hands through his hair.  “Not to mention my family.”
“Indeed Mr. Montclair.”
“Well you are already well versed on multiple aspects of things you probably shouldn’t be knowledgeable about.”
All Rose could do was wink and smile. The light streaming through her and warming the very atmosphere around her.  He caught the scent of vanilla and roses, the freshness of the earth after a storm, and of sweet blossoms.
“Come Rose, let’s take a walk.”  He extended his arm and she took it.  He placed his other hand over hers on his arm.  Together they followed the path through the gardens.
I’m writing some fic that’s about two OCs, both set in the A Discovery of Witches universe! So, here’s their bios:
Tumblr media
Name: Benoit Montclair
Age: somewhere in his 400s
Race: Vampire
Family: Baldwin Montclair (father)
Miyako (sister)
Matthew Clairmont (uncle)
Diana Bishop-Clairmont (aunt)
Bio: Benoit was an English prince in the early 1600s. But when sickness threatened his life, his mother made a deal with a vampire so save Benoit—and thereby saving their throne. Baldwin turned Ben, but was told he’d not be allowed to interfere with human politics, including holding the crown.
Ben hated his new father for decades after that, especially as his (human) family was overthrown and executed.
They reconciled centuries later, but old wounds reopened when Baldwin had issues with his daughter during and after World War Two. They are only recently working through their anger issues towards each other, politely cordial.
Ben is in charge of one of Baldwin’s human businesses.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
Name: Amelia Dansworth (Lia for short)
Race: human
Age: 33
Family: Clayton Dansworth (father - deceased)
Kathy Dansworth (mother - deceased)
Anabell Dansworth (grandmother - deceased)
Bio: Amelia’s parents moved from London to New York for Clayton’s job. She was born there, and her parents decided to not file for dual citizenship, opting for Amelia to be American.
When she was 12, however, her parents were killed during a mass shooting incident. As her only living relative, Amelia moved back to London, living with her grandmother.
Amelia went to university, studying business. She was able to get a job directly after graduation, and she’s been with the same company since—working her way up the ranks until she got her own office.
Sadly, her grandmother passed when Amelia was 25. Since then, she has thrown herself fully into her work life, ignoring any kind of personal life. Though, she has met up with coworkers for a drink after work, she’s only close to the woman in the office next door: Emily.

FOR WANT OF A NAIL

Part Fourteen
Summary: Baldwin Montclair had a string of ex girlfriends, a single child, and a lifetime longer than most people could dream of to make all kinds of mistakes.His family knew one which kept coming out of the woodwork to irritate him every other century.
Also on Ao3
He heard their heartbeats in the entrance hall long before he reached the top of the stairs. It had been a slow day, and any immediate business had been concluded for well over an hour now, so he had been sitting idly in his chair in his office and making a game of listening to the sounds in the street below.
Martin took a deep breath in, scenting the air.
…honey and saffron…bitter orange and warm bread…
…cinnamon and cloves…
Wonderful. The mate of Hugh De Clermont, and the son of Ysabeau De Clermont who was so newly embraced that her blood vow was strong enough to bounce off the walls. Martin sighed. This was going to go really well or very poorly.
‘Sieur , these gentlemen say they have come to do trade. Milord Gonçalves and milord De Clermont’
‘Thank you, Estienne. Gentlemen, if you would please follow me’
He ushered them into the great hall while Estienne dashed off to get them refreshments. The daemon returned with a tall glass bottle and three goblets. He passed the cups around and served the wine, then scurried off again.
‘Might I remind you it is customary to send word before one approaches a prospective client’
‘My apologies,’ the younger man was tall, very tall, with neat jet-black hair. ‘Sieur Phillipe believed that you may refuse us, considering the history between our families’
Martin nodded curtly.
‘We called at your home, but your steward directed us here’ Hugh’s mate had kind, serious eyes, and a mop of curly dark hair.
‘Which business is Phillipe interested in? We have a glassworks here, as well as the winery’
The men shared a speculative look.
‘You will do business with us then?’ asked Hugh’s mate.
‘Coin is coin’ Martin waved a hand dismissively. ‘Which business?’
‘Wine’ the younger man let a genuinely enthusiastic smile break, ‘We would like to open an account with you, with Bouchard, for a supply of Burgundy...for the foreseeable future.’
________________________________________________________________
They moved the conversation to Martin’s office upstairs, and it quickly became clear that the account was for Matthew De Clermont, not the family as a whole. However, the numbers he was being fed suggested a second person would be using it. It struck Martin as slightly odd.
He thought for a moment as Matthew waffled on. Philippe drank Italian red; Ysabeau drank still wine from Champagne. Hugh preferred white wine, and Godfrey preferred the reds being produced in Bordeaux. That left-
Ah. Martin smiled. Of course.
‘Does he know where the wine will be coming from?’ Martin enquired, interrupting Matthew.
‘He does’ Matthew nodded, ‘Your vineyard is on Philippe’s list of buyers. Our short list.’
Fail.
‘I expect to be paid for the shipment. If he pours the bottles down the drain and cancels the contract, I will have my money’
Fernando smiled. ‘Phillipe will ensure he does not interfere’
Pass.
‘Oh, you meant Christophe’ said Matthew, somewhat sheepishly.
Martin looked at him incredulously.
‘His name is Christophe now?’
Bearer of Christ? Really?!
‘How did he come up with that?’
‘It was the name he was christened with’ Matthew explained. Martin’s eyebrows raised again.
‘Lucius Sigéric Benoit Christophe Baldwin de Clermont’
‘Bless you’
‘It is traditional for a new member of the family to receive five names’
‘This from a man who is consistently called Philippe’
Fernando burst out laughing. Matthew opened his mouth, frowned, and shut it again.
Author’s Notes Baldwin: My favourite wine is Bordeaux Martin, knowing full well he has a cellar-worth of Burgundy on the way: ..Mmhm..
Hugh De Clermont smells like honey and warm bread. Fernando smells like saffron and bitter orange.
Yes, people in the past had multiple names, however Martin comes from a culture where the maximum number of was usually around three, including a nickname. Also, I think having multiple names was usually a royal or upper class thing, so it’s another way of Phillipe showing off the family and its wealth.
Bouchard Père et Fils (Bouchard Father and Sons) is a real company! It was founded as a cloth merchant business by Michel Bouchard in Beaune, France, in 1731. Michel’s son Joseph expanded the business into a winery in 1746. The family sold the business to Joseph Henriot, a champagne producer, in 1995. You can buy their wine today in a wide range of prices, from a wide range of stores as well as directly from their website online :)

OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER

Part Twenty-Three
Summary: Baldwin de Clermont manages to upset an ancient hag. He wakes up.. different.
Tricked me..
...deceived...
..sneaky bit-witch..
‘It wasn’t a complete lie, you know’
Baldwin screetched to a halt mid-stride in the centre of the hall, fists clenched tightly by his sides. He didn’t look up to meet Ysabeau’s gaze; instead he kept his eyes facing forward, burning holes into nothing in particular.
‘When she arrived here, she was terrified’ Ysabeau cautiously approached her eldest son.
‘She sincerely believed you were completely ordinary’
‘And you all had a good laugh at my expense!’ Baldwin spat out, jaw clenched.
‘Yes’ Ysabeau admitted. Baldwin whipped around to face her.
‘Now go back in there and talk’
‘I AM THE HEAD OF THIS FAMILY AND YOU DO NOT GET TO TELL ME WHAT I MUST DO!’
‘I would be curious to know her thoughts. Particularly since she still appears willing to be the mother of your child’ said Ysabeau pointedly, then she turned on her heel and walked away.
________________________________________________________________
Liv put the dandelions on the windowsill and wiped her hands together, washing her fingers with stray tears. She sniffed, composing herself. She was a strong, independent business owner with good family support...she could do this.
She could do this...on her own...
Liv swallowed, blinking ferociously.
..she didn’t want to do this on her own..
Baldwin still hadn’t come back yet. She wondered if he had stormed all the way to the front door. She imagined him marching down the front steps, hurling himself into the driver’s seat of his car and angrily slamming the door shut before racing off towards the mountains.
He was probably already venting his misconstrued preconceptions on some poor deer that happened to have wandered into his path, or someone unlucky enough to be taking a stroll down a deserted country lane. She shivered, and rubbed her arms. She hoped whoever it was, he meted out some small amount of mercy to them.
The wooden door behind her creaked open, and a tiny sliver of discomfort uncoiled in the pit of her stomach. She swallowed again, standing taller.
‘I didn’t know’
She didn’t turn around. Not yet.
‘My family’s never been interested in creature politics; we’ve never bothered to try. I never expected to meet a De Clermont’
Liv brushed her hair back, tucking it over her ear as she placed her other hand, unconsciously, on her stomach. The silence behind her continued.
‘I didn’t know who you really were, and I didn’t do any of this to entrap you’
Liv turned, then.
‘And I don’t know what this means for us but - and I will not repeat myself- you are not keeping our baby from me. It’s half mine too.’
Baldwin stared mutely at her, his expression undreadable.
She waited.
After a few minutes, he approached her, cautiously holding out a hand. She hesitated for a second, then shook it.
‘Lucius Sigéric Benoit Christophe Baldwin de Clermont. Head of the De Clermont clan, former Roman legionary, and currently reduced from a 2,065-year-old vampire to a cursed human.’
‘Livinia Preston. Earth witch.’
