Thinking about that time, Benny's grandma told him how she uses ancient pancreas in her lasagna as an ingredient. And I'm like... wondering... what kind of nutritional value does it serve in the lasagna, anyway? Or does she just use it as a way to make it taste better, like some sort of seasoning or flavor booster?

I'm watching Three Cheers For Evil with my gf, and when Benny recognizes the magic symbol for immortality in Grandma's yearbook, I pointed out to her how it was ridiculous that *she* never noticed it yet Benny knew it from memory already and she shot back with a take that made me gasp holy shit,
Benny recognizes the symbol because he WANTS to be immortal and his grandma doesn't really think of it that much so she hasn't really looked at it twice
Aajdjdhajfjjrjdufjsjfkdjdkdj omg such a good take @mac-cheez I love you

MBAV Villain Posters VII: The Consequences of One's Own Actions
The Eternity Cage may be impregnable, but the prop really had no reason to be! I've kindly censored the part where Erica dismembers Benny & puts him in the microwave— as fun as the line is, it sounds hard to animate.
Shoutout to @mysticmoondancer for offering ideas for this poster.

Been thinking about deaf Evelyn Weir
She has some sort of animal living with her as "ears" but she also has Benny
I can imagine Benny lazily waving or snapping (nicely ofc) at her to get her attention
(stirring up some magic) "is this making any weird sounds?" "No, grandma"
Benny asks her why she doesn't just cast a spell so she can hear and she says she doesn't really want to be able to hear. She's been deaf all her life and anything she could do hearing she can do deaf
(^ came from my own deaf grandma)
Sitting with Ethan and Rory to teach them enough ASL to be conversational
She can sign LSQ too but ASL is her primary language
She's definitely some sort of head of department for deaf earth priestess
"tell your grandma I said-" followed by the loudest sigh ever from Benny before he starts translating
Ethan is generally better than Rory at ASL, but after becoming a vampire, Rory spends a lot of time at Evelyn's learning it bc as silly as it may seem being able to communicate with her is important to him
ASL becoming crucial on some of their missions because they can communicate when they can't speak

I'm googling "antiques roadshow music" and literally only finding the original UK theme am I losing it

Grandma Weir must have been teaching Benny Latin at some point while growing up since he was able to understand some spells he had just read that night at the dusk premiere.
Just imagine little Benny Weir sitting down at the kitchen table while his grandma tried to drill some Latin into his small, very distracted brain. He just wanted to go play with Ethan but instead he has his grandmother screaming at him in a dead language. She was exasperated and he was basically jumping out of his seat to go hang with Ethan after she had given up for the day.
I imagen she tried to speak to him in Latin a lot so it would get stuck in his head. Surprisingly it somehow worked even if just a bit bc he managed to read a disappearing spell in his book!
That or he just instinctively knows Latin bc he’s a spell castor and it comes with the magic blood line:/
But I’d much rather imagine grandma Weir trying to drill it into his head but it unfortunately not working so well since Benny isn’t that good at listening to his grandma.

Actually, wait, holy shit, I just realised something
So throughout mbav, Benny accidentally spells Ethan a few times, not too many but enough. There probably would have been more instances of this I'd we got a season three.
And then, in the season 2 finale, we find out just how strong a curse a powerful wizard deemed necessary for ethan...you see where I'm going with this, right?
Ethan has major hallucinations (or maybe minor, we only see two of them so let's say major because it actually does seem that way) which yeah, that's a big deal, but what does the same spell do to the extremely powerful Grandma Weir? It fucking freezes her, it's obvious this spell is EXTREMLY powerful.
And at first glance, this only hints at the extent of *Ethan's* powers, since, yknow, principle whatshisface feels the need to use that powerful a spell on Ethan and it doesn't even end up working because he manages to break it with ✨️the power of love/friendship✨️
But, if we take a closer look, this also secretly hints at Benny being more powerful than he realises too because despite the power of the spell the principle needed to use on Ethan, BENNY HAS NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE PUTTING A SPELL ON ETHAN. *EVER*.
And yeah, I know that Benny has never tried that kind of spell or anything like that and he only hits ethan with like 1-2 spells tops, at least on camera, and also he doesn't do it on purpose, but none of that matters because the spell still worked on Ethan! Did you see the difference in effect that curse had on Ethan and Grandma? He clearly has some sort of minor magic resistance or something I don't really know I'd have to think more about it to decide what type of power that was but whatever it was shows not only Ethan is op, BUT SO IS BENNY
Just two besties who don't realise how op they are yet 🤪✌️
I'm gonna be thinking about this all week now, aren't I?

I Love "The Jack Benny Program" And I Will Talk About And Analyze It At Length: Part I (The Characters)
I am going to use this humble platform of mine to gush about my extraordinarily niche interest of The Jack Benny Radio Program which aired on NBC (1932, 1933-1948) and CBS (1932-1933, 1949-1955). Let's go!!
Tumblr media
Okay, so let's start with the general premise:
The Jack Benny Program is a show-with-in-a-show about Jack Benny, a real life 1940s American comedian and movie star (though even he would say "star" is pushing it).
The show follows the lives of Jack and the staff of his radio show (think Curb Your Enthusiasm). The characters share the names of their actors (excluding one which we'll talk about), and the characters often reference the lives of their actors and are meant to be exaggerated versions of their actors. Public events dealing with the actors are often referenced and jokes about in-show.
Now let's get to the characters*:
*This is a show that existed for 23 years. It has seen a lot of people come and go. The characters I am showing here are the core cast that stayed the longest, though many of the characters/actors that were in the earlier and later seasons are wonderful in their own right.
Tumblr media
Jack Benny: The titular character of the show, Jack is a vain, cheap, neurotic, and charming boss to all of his staff. He has a massive crush on his co-worker, Mary Livingstone (who he was married to in real life). He has deep friendships with all of his staff and is often around them. He is famously bad at the violin, insists that he is 39 even though he is clearly not, and insists that he has blue hair and blonde eyes though (once again, he obviously does not)
Tumblr media
Rochester: Jack's long term valet, Rochester is a sly, clever, fun-loving man who prefers to crack jokes over managing his boss' life. His brand of fun includes: drinking, gambling, spending time with his friends, and smoking cigars.
Tumblr media
Mary Livingstone: Mary is an actor on the show. She is thoughtful, smart, wise-cracking, and always up to go along with Jack's schemes. She has a massive crush on Jack (who she was married to in real life). She is never afraid to push against Jack's more ridiculous beliefs and ideas. She has a sister,
Tumblr media
Dennis Day: The perpetual youngster, Dennis is a kind-hearted, naive, idiotic, silly, young man who lives with his mother whom he loves very much. He is a crooner, which means he sings a song every episode and it is often joked about that singing once a week is his only job. He is often treated like a beloved annoying little brother by the cast and crew. Jack often exploits his good nature by shortchanging his pay or making him work on things outside of his job description. He is a proud red-haired Irish man.
Tumblr media
Phil Harris: Phil is a wild child if ever there was one. The orchestra director, Phil stays up late, drinks often, and always advocates for his orchestra members who are ex-convicts with interesting fashion styles. He is a womanizer who is sitll deeply in love with his wife, Alice. He is also illiterate and dropped out of school as a boy. He has a flippant older brother energy with Jack and he is easy going with everyone else.
Tumblr media
Don Wilson: Don is the announcer and he always opens the show. Don is self important, quick is be ruffled, loyal to Jack, and a resident straight man. Jokes are often made about his weight. He and Jack often pick at each other, but he is well liked by the other characters.
Tumblr media
I'm going to do more of these talking about specific episodes, the form of the show, it's impact on modern comedy, the lives of the actors, and more, but I think this is a good place to stop before it gets too long. In the meantime: here's a video of an episode which I think is a good introduction to the characters, style, and premise.
In this episode Jack and Rochester pick up the cast so they can car pool to work. Hijinks ensue. This episode aired October 4, 1942.
