Szervezők: Fiatalok Fotóművészeti Stúdiója (FFS) Initio Fine Arts A Damage Control kiállítás a Fiatalok Fotóművészeti Stúdiójának három tagjának, az emberi kapcsolatokra reflektáló munkáit mutatja be. Szemben, a mai világunkra olyannyira jellemző – a közösségi média álltál propagált és elvárt – tökéletességre törekvéssel szemben – ahol mindig legjobb arcunkat kell mutatnunk – a galériában kiállító művészek az emberi interakciókban rejlő hibákra, nehézségekre és esetlenségekre irányítják a figyelmet. Olyan helyzetekre, melyek elkerülhetetlenül hozzátartozói az emberi kapcsolatoknak és a társas létnek. Biró Dávid ERR (2017) sorozata a társas érintkezéseinket megszabó etikettel foglalkozik. Olyan hagyományos illemszabályokkal, melyek ideális esetben segítik viselkedésünket különböző társasági szituációkban. Az ERR sorozat ugyanakkor a rendszer hibáit mutatja meg: eseteket, amikor homokszem kerül a gépezetbe és zavarbajtő szituációk alakulnak ki. Hodosy Enikő Láthatatlan-te (2016) sorozata az emberi kapcsolatokhoz szükségszerűen társuló lelki sérülések vizuális nyomait jeleníti meg. „Ahogy egy verekedés vagy összekapás után a testünkön is maradnak zúzódások, ugyanúgy igaz ez lelkünkre, szellemi lényünkre is...” (Hodosy Enikő) Mi történne akkor, ha lelki vívódásainknak és belső sérülésinknek ugyanígy, testi lenyomatai lennének? A sorozat Hodosy fotónapló-szerű válogatásából áll össze, kiegészülve kulturális és művészettörténeti utalásokkal. A végeredmény egy térben és időben kiterjesztett atmoszferikus, asszociációs halmaz, mely különböző síkokon értelmezi a problémát, így a személyességen túl, egy általánosabb mondanivalót fogalmaz meg. A Persona (2015) című sorozat Riga Eszter végzős egyetemi évében készült, mely időszakot a diplomázás körüli stressz és a kényszeres megfeleléses jellemzett. Ezen időszakot összegző metaforikus képei vizuális feldolgozása és megörökítése saját belső küzdelmeinek. Recall (2015) című munkája szintén belső képeket hív elő, de a jelen eseményei helyett a múlt emlékeiből merít. Olyan, szinte kézzelfogható, mai napig el nem feledett emlékeket hív elő, melyek a lelki és testi emlékezet határán léteznek: anyai ölelés, atyai pofon, érintések, amik (akár pozitívak akár negatívak) egy életre beleíródnak emlékezetünkbe. Riga az adott emléket/érintést sötétben világító festékkel alkotja újra, majd síkfilmre kontaktolja, így hozva létre megjelenési felületet az emlékezés számára. A K.A.S. Galéria április 12-én nyíló kiállítása a Fiatalok Fotóművészeti Stúdiójával együttműködésben, Vivienne Gamble (UK) kurátori rendezésében valósul meg. Vivienne Gamble a londoni Seen Fifteen Gallery alapítója és a Peckham 24 fotóművészeti fesztivál igazgatója. A Seen Fifteen London dél-keleti részén, Peckham-ben található, a kreatív központként is jól ismert Bussey Building-ben. A galéria kortárs fotó- és videóművészettel foglalkozik, visszatérő kiállítója az amszterdami Unseen művészeti vásárnak. A kiállítás kiemelt célja, hogy aktív párbeszéd alakulhasson ki a hazai és nemzetközi fotós szcéna között. ------------------------------------------------------ A K. A. S. Galéria alapításától fogva az állami mecenatúra és az önmenedzselésben kevésbé járatos művészek közötti űrt kívánta kitölteni. 2015 óta a galéria programjában egyre fontosabb szerepet kap a 35 év alatti fotóművészek bemutatása, vendégkurátorok bevonásával és a nemzetközi kapcsolatok felé való nyitással. Gallery Initio Fine Arts Damage Control brings together the work of three members of the Studio of Young Photographers whose work examines tensions within the construction of human social identities. In today’s world of ‘perfect’ lives made public on social media sites, these artists explore an opposite dynamic - the flaws, inconsistencies and private difficulties that are inherent within the complex web of human relationships and interactions. Dávid Biró’s ERR (2017) series focuses on human behavior, determined by common courtesies. These conventional rules help us to interact in social circumstances, however, in a human-made system malfunction can easily occur. Biró recreates and catalogues these intermittences, highlighting accidental, momentary and often oddly bizarre situations. Enikő Hodosy’s Invisible-you (2016) series deals with emotional frictions. After a fight or argument, our soul and inner self might get damaged the same way as our body could. Hodosy’s interest lays in how to portray emotional injuries and visualize an internal elusive state. The result is an atmospheric set, containing photos of bruises, supplemented by pictures from her photo diary. Hodosy extends the series both in time and space by adding cultural and art historical references, going beyond the personal level, formulating a universal message. Eszter Riga’s diploma work, Persona (2015) was created in her last collage year; in a period, which was a highly stressful time for Riga, facing anxiety problems and low self-esteem. The pictures of the series are metaphorical visualizations of her emotions, showing her fight for gaining recognition and the struggle for finding her own artistic voice. Riga’s other exhibited work, called Recall (2015) deals with emotions, embedded into the human touch., such as maternal embraces or fatherly slaps. These interactions (whether positive or negative) are coded in our memory for a lifetime. Riga recalls these inner pictures by using light-sensitive materials, applied to the surface of the photographic paper, creating an abstract interface. The exhibition is curated by Vivienne Gamble, founder and director of Seen Fifteen and co-founder and creative director of the Peckham 24 Festival. ------------------------------------------------------ About K. A. S. Gallery: K. A. S. Gallery was founded in Budapest after the change of the political regime in 1990. Its appearance was relevant as a response to build up alternatives to the institutional system of the local scene when there was neither governmental support nor private sponsorship yet for the arts in the country. The founder of K. A. S Gallery, Ilona Nyakas was one of the first to open a contemporary art gallery in Budapest in the 1990s. Nyakas, herself also an artist, familiar with the existential and financial problems facing artists, aims to support talented young artists with independent exhibitions. About Seen Fifteen: The artistic programme at Seen Fifteen is dedicated to the work of contemporary photographers, with a specialist focus on photography’s “Expanded Field” and artists who push the boundaries of the medium. Artists exhibited with Seen Fifteen include Maya Rochat, Laura El-Tantawy, Taisuke Koyama, Alexander Mourant, Megan Doherty, Martin Seeds and Ciaran Og Arnold. Originally from Ireland, Seen Fifteen’s founder Vivienne Gamble also supports the work of emerging Irish artists and has curated shows at Belfast Exposed Photography Gallery and Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris. She holds an MA in History and Theory of Photography from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Vivienne is also Co-Founder of Peckham 24 - a festival of contemporary photography that takes place during Photo London week in May each year. Kétszázmillióval licitálták túl Virág Judit várakozásait

A harmadával múlta felül az előzetes becsértéket a végső leütési ár a Virág Judit Galéria jubileumi aukcióján. A telt házas eseményen még Párizsból is versenybe szálltak egy-egy tételért.

Értékes és válogatott anyaggal vágott neki huszadik évfordulós jubileumi aukciójával a második félévi árverési szezonnak a Virág Judit Galéria. Ennek megfelelően a kongresszusi központban tartott esemény telt házzal futott, még a karzatot is meg kellett nyitni az érdeklődők előtt. A 212 kalapács alá kerülő tétel összkikiáltási ára 650 millió forint volt, az összleütési ár végül mintegy 852 millió forint lett. A legmagasabb összeget egy Rippl-Rónai-festményért adták. A művész Pihenő Fenella című alkotása 1911-ben született, az érte kifizetett 85 millió forint ugyan beleesett a becsérték sávjába, de némileg elmaradt a várakozásoktól. A vételár az aukciósház jutalékával együtt egyébként meghaladta a 100 millió forintot.

A Fenellát ábrázoló akttanulmányok és festmények Rippl-Rónai kukoricás periódusának meghatározó darabjai. A lány az impresszionista korszak nagy alkotóinak, így Rodinnek és Bourdelle-nek is modellt állt. Rippl-Rónai invitálására annak idején kilenc hónapot töltött el a festő családjával Kaposváron.

A Virág Judit Galéria árverésének másik fontos darabja Reigl Judit korai szürrealista festménye, a Broyage du vide (A semmi szétzúzása) volt, amelyre Párizsból is licitáltak. Egy telefonos licitáló végül 65 millió forintos leütési áron vitte el a festményt. Az ismeretlen új tulajdonos Reigl nemzetközi árainak emelkedését tekintve szinte biztosan jó vásárt csinált.

A harmadik legmagasabb árat Bortnyik Sándor 1923-ban a weimari Bauhausban festett képe érte el. A Vörös palack című geometrikus absztrakt csendélet sokat idézett és remek provenienciával rendelkező mű. Ezekből az olajjal kartonra festett csendéletekből összesen hat darabot tartanak számon a szakemberek, ezek mindegyike egy kísérletező korszak kimagasló kvalitású dokumentuma.

Hét művet árvereztek el Vaszary Jánostól, közülük a legértékesebb 40 millió forintos árával a Tengerpart (Strandolók) Rimini című 1928-as festménye lett, amely abból az időszakból való, amikor a mester fehérre alapozta a vásznakat, hogy erőteljes, ragyogó színeket kapjon. Vaszary 1925-től kezdve minden évben hosszú heteket töltött az olasz tengerparton, számos festmény örökíti meg ezeket a nyaralásokat.

Az ugyanebben az évben, szintén fehér alapra készült virágcsendéletéért 30 millió forintot adtak.

Perlmutter Izsák 1910 körül festett szalonképe 40 millió forintot ért, Fényes Adolf Hazatérő testvérek című képét 36 millió forinton ütötték le. Húszmillió forintos leütési árat ért el Mednyánszky László hófödte hegyek közt vonuló trént ábrázoló festménye és Patkó Károly 1931-es olasz tájképe, amelyet 1938-ban a Velencei Biennálén is kiállítottak.

Pozitív üzenete van annak, hogy kimondottan jól szerepeltek az aukción a kortárs festészeti anyagok. Bak Imre 2008-as Képzelet fénye című festménye 3,6 millió forintért, feLugossy László Dojó néni című képe 3,8 millió forintért, Keserü Ilona Jel című műve pedig 1,4 millió forintért kelt el. A galéria soron következő árverése november 8-án a második önálló Zsolnay-aukció lesz.

6. What drew you to move or stay in the Pioneer Valley? Coming from a small town, with a mindset befitting a place with a sub-Nascar race track, I grew up an outcast. I didn't fit the norms of what I was exposed to. I hated sports, hated racing and things with engines, hated a lot of stuff in my formative years. That hatred fueled me to seek out other non-conformists who had similar perspective. Somewhat of a natural ability to traverse all different sub-genres of people came very easy to me, and while others dismissed that as being fake, I have learned that a honest and genuine person can identify with others regardless of whatever label they or others put on them. This all led me to hardcore music. I played in a band in the early-mid 90’s. We found a home in the western Mass hardcore scene, and never left. Coming from my hometown, the Pioneer Valley was a vibrant, artsy community with a lot of people that shared the same view on the world as I did. It didn't seem exclusionary, it seemed accepting. It was new, fun and exciting. I look back and wonder how much of that was wanderlust and how much was reality, but as my sister went to NYU in 93-96 and I was in NYC on at least a monthly basis, I like to think I had a decent understanding of it all. Western Mass seemed like home from the get go. There was a lack of the pretentiousness that I felt in Connecticut, and still to this day, comparing the two, leads me to the same conclusion, albeit having a far more informed opinion. Years passed and life happened and I am still here now, a father, a business man, a professional artist, semi-professional musician. I find inspiration from those I surround myself with, and this area has some of the sweetest, most caring most human beings I have ever encountered. That is what drew me here and what keeps me here to this day, like minded outcasts who have made it in one way or another by their own terms. Now that I have learned to live with the hatred, and to channel it properly and not let it consume me, I find myself yearning to go to the woods to live.

7. Where do you find support for your creative endeavors in the community? Now, it is the people I actively seek out, I do not expect anything from anyone. I try and earn it. Having worked at a music store for years, being in bands for over 2 decades, and tattooing for 9 years, I have been truly blessed with some of the greatest encounters I could ever ask for. My client base is my true support system, they help me pay my bills and afford a nice life that I am proud of. I find support in other local businesses, reaching out and being reached out to by people. Taking care of one another. I love being a part of a community, I think I am a socialist at heart, meaning I think if we all play a part in our communities and our communities thrive, we all do better and it resonates outwards from there.

8. Have you ever considered leaving the area to better benefit your work? I have left, I moved to Burlington, VT. for a music store job in 2005. It was rough for me. I had a persona here, or so I thought, and moving away and losing all bragging rights about this and that really helped me deconstruct my view of myself. Now that I have questioned that ego mentality, or try to practice that at the very least, and I have learned to take critiques, I have a different view. I love traveling to go tattoo, and tattooing affords me the chance to go do that. I love going to Atlanta and Orlando a few times a year each, and every time I do I return with a renewed energy, but also a renewed love for the Valley. I swear there is something magic about going from Holyoke to Easthampton and going over Mt. Tom, even after the microburst tore it to shreds, it still invigorates me.

9. What would you like to see more of in the Valley to better support artists? As a tattooer, I am fairly fulfilled by The Blueprint Gallery. Working by appointment only has led me to a sense of peace, calm and focus that I could have never attained at other tattoo studios. As far as other medium, I feel as though there is a lack of interesting galleries to show work in. I find most of the galleries to be exclusive and tending to showcase art that never speaks to me. Foe and a few others are exceptions. As far as music goes, I feel as though the larger venues around here being owned by a monopoly that has no interest in supporting the local music scene has been a detriment to the musicians around here. I think the venues in Northampton could be like a training grounds. Start at the small room, start booking that out well move onto the next room, and on up until you are headlining the biggest room in the town, and all along helping raise the music up in the area. I am a dreamer in that sense I suppose, for I do not see the structures in place changing. There are far too many bro bars, thug laden places where you feel unsafe, and again monopolies that have ruined a lot of opportunity. It would be nice to have decent size room with a great stage and good sound that could circumvent the regime and get some locals stage time with some nationals without having to sell your own tickets, and support a place that lets their buildings crumble and their staffs starve. The fact that they deem where on the bill your band plays by how your ticket sales go it an awful practice. I personally believe that is a bullshit format. I am an artist and a musician, and although I have a sales position in my past, I want to concern myself with creating and marketing my band, not slinging tickets for a venue. That job of promotion should land on the venues shoulders more in my opinion.There are some great venues doing some great stuff, I think the Flywheel does a great job and have for a long time, and a handful of promoters who are trying to fight against this norm that do a great job in venues like the 13th Floor, The Ohm, The Platinum Pony and I am sure I am forgetting some. A place like Ralph’s Diner in Worcester is a perfect example of a place with character, a great sized room and the ability to book the place and draw people in. We need that here.

10. Do you have additional comments on the arts and music scene in the Valley? I appreciate the opportunity to speak on that. Without maintaining a negative mindset, I feel like the illusion of the Valley is different from reality. There is this liberal progressive facade that gets projected, but I honestly see past the facade. Inherent underlying racism is clearly evident. Classism and gentrification are evident everywhere you look. There always has been a beautifully cultured and rich “counter” culture in the Valley, regardless of the ever present culture-wealth-race gap that stares us in the face daily. I try not to dwell in the bitter angry mental state for too long, and when I find myself creeping there, I stop, take a breath, take a look around and realize how amazing a life I have here in the Pioneer Valley. Although some things are worth fighting and bitching about with out a shred of doubt, I also want to be mindful of how beautiful life here surrounded by amazing people really is.
