L: Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for?

Lmao I'm so terrible about this honestly... Number one it'd be fanart because fic is, like, if I have a fic idea I'm attached to enough I want to write it myself, you know. I'll have a ~vision

Art on the other hand I have no vision at all. Head empty no thoughts. The most I can come up with usually is like, a ship or set of characters. Maybe a vague mood. This is part of why my foray into drawing wasn't very long-lasting/sort of hit a wall, I just like, can't picture stuff to even want to draw it. Vibes only.

I think I already answered this with Life is Strange and @thereisnolaughterinschool. I'm like 95% sure I got some anons recommending it to me as well when it was releasing, but I wasn't able to play until it came to Mac like six months after it was finished lol.

She gets half credit for Telltale Batman as well because she told me it was actually good, while I'd previously only been considering it because a) Telltale b) I had just played Tales and I was like hehe... Rhys and Fiona...

I think I'm more likely to take game recs than to take tv show recs, but even then, I'm just... lmao Idk. I'm just like that.

sawyer! and! juliet!

it really is funny how. late in the game i am to enemies to lovers, because so much of my perception of enemies to lovers is folded into Belligerent Sexual Tension, which is a trope that i’ve never really understood the appeal of? it’s always a weird balance where i think they’re either too mean or not mean enough, so i’ve always just associated enemies-to-lovers as having a base...pettiness to it that i don’t really have the patience for. from there i assumed that i didn’t like enemies to lovers because it was just. too much conflict in places i didn’t care about.

and it really wasn’t until THIS year that i realized that the problem wasn’t too much conflict. it was not enough.

i like to say it’s an Austenian thing because Austen did it earlier and it makes me sound more pretentious, but the truth is i watched most of Lost before i read Pride and Prejudice, so Sawyer and Juliet might actually be my Ur Text for this. the thing about the two of them is it should not have worked; i was watching this show live and the amount of fan bile hurled at a) the love dodecahedron and b) any and all female character had basically reached critical mass by season 3. that Juliet was accepted (let alone appreciated) was solely due to the Miracle of Elizabeth Mitchell, but even that didn’t feel like it would be enough to make up for the fact that a) Juliet had prior to the penultimate season less than five conversations with Sawyer and b) the Sawyer/Kate shippers were OUT FOR BLOOD.

then Elizabeth Mitchell was Elizabeth Mitchell, and Josh Holloway brought his A-game, and it really, really worked, to the point where Sawyer and Juliet are still the most uncontroversially beloved pair out of the dodecahedron. and a lot of it is the chemistry, and the bonded-by-trauma-stuff, and the fact that when they were together it WASN’T really about The Drama (just The Dharm--please stop throwing rocks at me)...

but when i say “Sawyer/Juliet is my blueprint for enemies-to-lovers” what i think i actually mean is the Basra Conversation (ironic that i call it it that, since the Basra bit has nothing to do with Sawyer). what i mean is Juliet holding a gun to Kate and Sawyer instantly recognizing that she would have shot Kate without a second thought.

here’s the thing that appeals to me about enemies to lovers: they have to actually be enemies. that sounds easy, but what i mean here is that they have to see each other as serious threats--if not to their actual physical wellbeing, then their ideology and worldview. Sawyer and Juliet had completely opposite goals, temperaments, and beliefs in the very beginning. they saw that very clearly about each other, and they weren’t afraid to say it, to use it as leverage. i thought i didn’t like enemies to lovers because i saw it as an extension of people just being. incompetent, at articulating their feelings or killing each other. what makes Sawyer and Juliet such fabulous enemies and then lovers, though, was that they were both ruthless and competent at each other, about each other, but with all that came respect. they both changed as a result of both what one got right about the other, AND what one got wrong.

he changed his name for her. she stayed for him. god.

they hurt and unsettle each other, but there was enough give in both of them to learn and grow and forgive. so in a way Sawyer and Juliet were the romantic distillation of what i loved most about Lost as a show: people ripping themselves and each other apart because of the truth of who they are, and coming together for that same reason.

..While en route to heal Jairus' daughter, Jesus healed a woman who'd given all she had to be healed, but still found herself in the midst of suffering. She was overlooked, overspent (financially and likely emotionally), exhausted, and down to her last ounce of Faith. Yet, when she risked it all to Reach out and Touch the Savior's garments something Miraculous happened... She was made Well! She was finally made Whole!

When All the money, all the doctor's, all the things she'd tried before to be healed didn't come through for her, instead of giving up, she gave Life and her Healing ONE Last shot! She reached out for the One who was sent to Save, Heal, and Redeem the whole world - including her.

Ladies (and Gents) how much time has been spent seeking Self-help books, expensive "fixes", nights out, directionless interactions, tiring relationships, and empty words of validation in order to feel Whole? How many tears have been cried because of being let down and drained from the last person, place, thing that's been tried in order to finally "Feel good"? Maybe too many. Maybe not enough. Maybe enough to make you think, feel, or look like enough is enough. If so, just know.. It's going to be O.K.!

No, spending your time, energy, love, and resources on things that further separate you from God and his Purpose for your life, or leave you with more issues and symptoms rather than healing and resolutions, is NOT alright. But take a moment to consider this, when you think you're down to your last, you still have something great to step out on - Your Faith.

The woman in Mark 5:34 had "been there, done that" when it came to her physical healing. Yet and still she fell back on Faith, stepped through the healthy, the curious, the friends, and the strangers in the crowd to get close to the one she KNEW could give her what she needed, Jesus.

I don't know what your rock bottom is and I may NEVER know your WHOLE story, but I know THIS... the same Savior who healed through someone's faith being met by action is the Same Savior who can Heal you! The same Savior who was surrounded by a crowd clamoring for him and his attention, but stopped - in the middle of going to restore someone else to Life- because of a touch from this one woman, will stop and Do the Same for you.

So, do you want it? If so, Be made Whole! Be made Well. Don't be confused. There are times when you need a doctor. There are times when you need that day of rest. There are times when you need Sound, Godly advice. There are times when you need to take medicine in order to be healed or help manage a physical or mental condition. But be Encouraged knowing this, You can STILL activate your Faith and Reach out to a Loving, Attentive Savior. God is Great, Good, and still in the miracle making business.

Maybe your miracle and restoration to healing won't look like this woman's. Maybe you'll still have a few "rough" days, ups and downs, and tears cried. However, know that when you Open your heart and hold on to your Faith in God you can rest assured that He is holding on to and carrying you. Rest assured knowing he Loves you enough to walk with you, Heal you, and move in your life in a mighty, healing way. Maybe he'll heal your mindset. Maybe he'll heal your heart. Maybe he'll heal your Body. No matter what needs repair or renewal KNOW THIS He will Always work (through his Word, the Blood of the Lamb, the Power of his Holy Spirit) in a way that Heals and Refreshes your soul!

So, take this minute, moment, hour, day, Month, Year to Step out on Faith and Reach out for the Father. Seek the Lord continually (Ps 105:4). Seek First, Last, Always the Kingdom of the Lord and His righteousness (Matt 6:33) and then Watch. Watch the Joy it brings. Watch the Healing you receive. Watch how he ADDS to you. Why? Because God never fails to fulfill a Promise and His word is always true.

The woman in Mark 5:34 was made well, Whole, because of a small action which required great strength and great faith despite what she'd been through and lost. The sitaution you're in now may not be ideal, but there's a God who promised to never leave you. And, right now, in This moment, He is waiting to give you the Love, Healing, Wholeness you need, seek, and deserve. He desires to add these things to you. Will you reach out, step out, call out in Faith to be touched, healed, and restored by Him?

+Last movie: City of Ember. I just wanted something easy that I'd seen before and didn't have to pay attention to. I love its steampunk vibes. Last new movie was Everything Everywhere All At Once, which was phenomenal and gorgeous. Need to watch it again.

+Currently watching: Baseball. I've just gotten into it this year. Supporting the Red Sox (so naturally they're having a dreadful start to the season) since I've been to Fenway before. I keep abandoning every TV show I start watching, no matter how much I'm enjoying it, which is becoming very frustrating. I did actually finish Our Flag Means Death though, and that was fantastic!

+Currently reading: The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson, last novel in the second Mistborn trilogy and it's so so good! Although I feel like I need to go back and reread the first Mistborn trilogy because I've apparently forgotten all the characters and events, and they're brought up fairly frequently.

of course I watched all of Lev Red over the weekend so a few overall thoughts 

all with the caveat that I’m Brand-New Here in that I only finished the original series earlier this year lol

the thing about Leverage is that it should be all but impossible to mess it up. They love each other and they do clever crimes and that’s the show. There’s more to it than that, obviously; the cast chemistry is so good and the writing is so good and there’s a ~Vibe that’s very Leverage-specific. but the new episodes would’ve had to find a really creative way to stumble to be bad imo. 

and they did not! I wrote a couple days ago that it felt like there was a shift after episode 2, and I still think that—eps 1-2 felt like a (REALLY GOOD) transition between old Lev and Lev Red—but I also think it was intentional and tbh necessary. it would’ve been worse to act like nothing was different (frex, like, essentially revamping the old title credits with hitter hacker etc. and just putting “hacker” with Breanna). Hardison is also my favorite so I kind of went in with a little dread, like what if the Hardison-shaped hole is too big? but ultimately it wasn’t. Nor was the Nate-shaped hole imo! They both got really nice sendoffs (hopefully less permanent for Hardison) and their presence was felt across these eps. episodes 3-8 felt like Leverage to me. a couple of those felt like really good Leverage, and only one of them felt like potentially skippable-during-rewatch Leverage. I mean, that’s pretty great! 

I have a lot of expectations for certain shows, esp. plot-driven shows—like, the Strong Female Lead of your contemporary noir show should not have to endure increasingly worse trauma to stay interesting! and also she should be a decent detective—but for Leverage, my expectation is that it makes me happy while I’m watching it. and it did! it does! Leverage is like comfort food made with a few ingredients you actually do always have lying around. it’s a fierce love but it’s an uncomplicated love. so. there. the end.

ok ok I have a couple of things to say about Ted

I seihoegwtb. I love the ways this show and its storytelling surprises me! I’ve been waiting for this big emotional showdown between Ted and Roy where, like, you’ve been avoiding the thing you love, the people who love you, because what if you’re not the person who fits there anymore and what if they expect a version of you you can’t access and what if you don’t even love it anymore really, and instead Ted just fuckin went and got him back. Fuck me!!! Family!!! 

anyway this was by far my favorite episode for Ted-the-character this season, finally, love to see him!!! also ROY MY BELOVED!!!! GOD. I love them. I love this show

it also was a joy to see Rebecca be laugh-out-loud funny again ... even though ... I don’t care ... about ... one of these characters ... very much ... ... ... at all
