★ For a long time, Betty didn’t remember much about her mother, except for the night she disappeared, along with the living room rug, and the pin that had held her father’s sanity in tact. After that strange and foggy night, they didn’t talk about Mrs. Braithwaite---not Betty, not her father, and not her little brother, Arturo. At least, not until Betty turned nine, and began to show signs of magic. It was small things at first, like keeping dishes from completing their fall to the hard floor, or getting far too old (and too small) clothes to zip and fit properly on her and Arturo---but it was not long before Mr. Braithwaite noticed these small things, and not much longer after that, that Betty’s gift began to flourish. To this day, Betty does not remember the visit Professor Dumbledore paid to their house on her twelfth birthday. She only remembers waking up in the middle of that night with her father’s hands around her throat, and the awed looks of the Muggle police as she tried to explain how she blasted him across the room and through the window with sheer will.

★ After her father’s arrest, Betty was quickly ushered into the Wizarding world, under the wings of various foster families who were happy to help her until she completed her education. The same was true for Beltty’s brother, Arturo---except that it was the Muggle world who took him in, far away from Betty. As she neared the end of her degree at Hogwarts, Betty’s patience waned thin. Years of waiting for her little brother to walk through the doors of the Great Hall proved fruitless, leaving Betty to wonder whether Arturo was a Muggle like their father, or whether he was simply somewhere else in the world. Perhaps both. And so, when Betty graduated, she took a job out of the country. And then another one, and then another after that. But even after all the places she has been, and all the things she has seen and done, Betty has still not found her long lost brother. Yet, anyway.

★ Taking odd jobs around the world was only so profitable, especially given how expensive Betty found it was to simply exist. And so, only a few months out of school, Betty turned her hobby of writing into a grand scheme, freelancing for papers and magazines around the world to earn some extra cash. More serious endeavors in journalism can be found with Betty’s name on the byline, but her steamy articles and short stories can be found in magazines like Witch Weekly under her most commonly used alias, Artura Lovelace. But that’s a secret Betty has shared with only one person---a musician named Stubby Boardman, whose name has populated the papers more this past year than all of Betty’s aliases combined. But what’s more than where Betty’s name is, is where Betty’s name isn’t---in this case, the credits of several of Stubby Boardman’s famous songs. Betty knows which of her ex-flame’s songs originated in her diary, and so does Stubby. And one day, when the timing is right, the rest of the world will know which songs are Betty’s, too.
