nora hasn't ever given much thought to that word; small, simple and unassuming when written down, applicable to a variety of relations and situations, but heavy and all consuming when in true practice. it's a word she bares no real faith in, singular loves she'd known all her life now a far cry from the relevance that'd once revolved around her, familial ties in ruin, whispers of the heart nothing more than mere flings and matters of little importance these days. nora couldn't care less for love, but press was press, so if ambushed, she could bring herself to pretend, at least for an afternoon.

she just so happens to find herself in jingrens company, the two finding time to attend the days event despite differing schedules. for university students, sales are a lifeline, so regardless of the subject matter, nora had made sure to drag him along as extra manpower ( and, of course, to hang out ).

"let me know if you spot anything interesting— oh, or if you see any yummy food stalls." nora is decked out, shades sat snuggly atop her nose as she casts a overviewing scan of their surrounds from over the top. luckily, the weather was nice, resulting in the space being rather packed. "wow, this whole thing brought out a lot more people than i was expecting to see."

jay doesn’t know what @bejingren is doing, or thinking, or what happened to him—whether the audition went so horribly wrong that the boy is simply sticking to his own corner, mostly during breaks. could it be that jingren is just that awkward in new situations, maybe jingren simply prefers no company at all? honestly, jay doesn’t know—but that doesn’t mean jay won’t do anything about it.

in true jay fashion, he instigates and he interferes. he’d say it’s one of his best traits, but others would disagree with him. he doesn’t need to be told by others what to like about himself though.

either way, jay’s sliding into place right by jingren’s side. “hey nerd.” it’s an affectionate nickname, jay swears. “so, are you actually ‘doing better’?” he asks, arms crossed, the filter around his mouth hanging loosely as he utters his genius pun. “they’re having us do the golden three huh? rapping, singing, dancing.” jay wonders why, to gauge their skillset perhaps? to see how fast they can learn new skills within a tight deadline? a part of him wonders how jingren is going about it.

“you know, i’ve never actually seen you interested in any of the three. if i had know i’d force you to do something for me.” which is something jay does often with the people he knows, funnily enough. after next gen is over, he’d drag jingren around too.

“anything out of the three you’ve never actually done before?” jay’s always one for mindless conversation, although it’s never mindless to jay himself. there’s a point, he just has to make it somehow. “i’m aiming to be an all rounder,” he states, giving before taking.

it's kind of interesting how many people he's made acquaintances of since moving back to seoul. he hadn't managed to make contact with anyone that he had known before leaving, but he didn't think it mattered too much.

( of course there were exceptions to everything, especially in this case, but he finds that it's better if he doesn't dwell on it for too long. )

but he made a smattering of new acquaintances, he wouldn't flatter himself enough to call them friends yet, knowing his own prickly and blunt personality isn't everyone's cup of tea. it's enough, jiwon thinks, even as he's glaring at one of those so-called acquaintances at the christmas market.

he hadn't meant to come back, but he had remembered a trinket he had wanted to grab to give to the ahjumma he lived next to. as a thank you present of sorts, but apparently there had only been one at the stall that he had been at and because they were handmade or whatever.

"i saw it yesterday," jiwon quips, letting the annoyance slip into his voice even if he doesn't really want to fight with jingren, not when they had struck up a odd sort of relationship from all the times the other male had come to the used bookstore he worked in.

"i need to buy this, you don't understand."

next gen is an opportunity for yuwol to polish his other performance skills, a chance for him to stray away from the violin that his parents had pushed onto him ever since he was a child. it's an instrument he had grown rather reliant on, as if he's playing to survive—now, though, he thinks he's taking steps away from that. slowly, but surely. whether his parents are fond of it or not.

although yuwol never expected himself to be rapping, of all things. it's a fast-paced skill, heavy on the rhythm. once again, something he's green with. he doesn't have too many rap lines—but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to do good with what he has. he wants to make sure their performance go beyond the standard. @bejingren seems to be on the same boat as him, so yuwol thinks they can work on this together.

"let's run through our lines," yuwol suggests. "since a few of them are actually back-to-back," he notices. they've split up a few of the rap verses between the two of them, all the more reason why they should work together. make sure everything flows nicely. "back it up, pack it up..."

"uh." stevie says, shoulders tucking up closer to his chin as he gives a nervous bout of laughter. "yeah, a little. time management? we're not really..." he thinks of the word, pouting in thought. "what is it...compatible? yeah. we don't really work together well." stevie tightly packs his days with schedules and activities between his obligations. he feels like he's constantly bouncing from one place to another-- or he's squeezing a nap in that ends up going for much longer than necessary.

stevie grins. "i can get rap down pretty easily. a lot of the time at least." it's fun. tongue twisters have always felt like a fun challenge, and a lot of the songs he listens to have a lot of english mixed into their rap verses. "i'll carry you on that front, don't you worry." he says encouragingly. though at the mention of adlibs, stevie lets out a snort. "i mean...i can try. can't promise it'll be any good, but who cares?" it's just karaoke, at the end of it all.

"we can do whatever! if something comes to you randomly even in the middle, we can always change and switch. we don't have to commit to something if you'd have more fun singing something else!" stevie's pretty flexible. he's also guilty of song shuffling-- even if the song isn't finished, he'll just skip to the next because he wants to hear the next one already. "a pitch adjuster? i don't think i've ever used one." stevie admits, curious. "i usually just let my voice crack and call it a day."

"no, don't even worry about that. happy you're here," jingren insists, because its true. man was two seconds away from walking out because he was too embarrassed to sing alone after coming in and being 'stood up' by a bunch of friends? well. "are you the type that's usually... late for class or for work, something like that?" he couldn't help but ask, but honestly, what better time than the present to get to know stevie better. jingren, genuinely, was one who liked to be punctual, dare he say he was that guy that always ended up going to class early to get the seat of his choice, and despising when his classes were back to back which had him running from lecture to lecture. which is probably why he was the one who always enters these reservations first. maybe next time he'll wait to see familiar faces first before going in...

"ohhhhhhh, sure. i'm alright with most things, minus... rap...... it goes too fast for me to read," jingren admits sheepishly, having tried once and stumbling so much that the song ended up being a skip. "maybe we could surprise ourselves with adlibs and harmony too. too much?" he laughs, taking note of a few songs that catch his eye that he would like to add into the queue. easy-singing contrasting with the way-too-high-to-sing songs would be a fun mood-breaker too, especially since he was getting more comfortable around stevie as he sat.

"you don't mind if i put in some.... less serious songs right?" jingren flips his eyes to stevie before going through the book further. "i am not picky... but if i stick to indecision, i will never pick anything and you can pick all the songs, but then that might seem like i am not committed to being here, which- i am." he's been told he's quite awkward before. and he's... hes trying! "maybe some.... girl group songs, or even worse, songs that are hard to sing and probably out of our vocal range. oh! i wonder if they have the pitch adjuster- though that might make it less challenging," he snickers a little, looking at the controller. sure enough, there it was.

ahyoung and her team have fun right away.

she's vaguely aware, somewhere in the back of her mind, that the judges will probably think she's not taking the competition seriously again, especially when, to start out their brainstorming sessions, she suggests don't call me: farmer version.

they're be right about that, though. she's still not. she has been thinking about what they said, though – and for as much fun as she's been having here...yeah, she probably would rather be at the club. she can't back out now, though – not when a team is counting on her. so she doesn't, and she resolves to do her best for them.

and she does, really. she thinks they all do a great job of brainstorming wild ideas, until eventually, they settle on one main one: a mad max theme.

a lot of them have composition experience, too, so they work together to remix the song, but not too much, because their concept is already a lot.

what they get is a grungier, edgier version of don't call me that still stays true to the original. they don't switch up any of the vocals or the structure of the song, just mad maxify the instrumental.

on performance day itself, ahyoung might actually feel...a little nervous. everything feels more official with a team, on this stage, with creative control over the concept. it feels a little more personal. for as much as ahyoung doesn't care about this competition, she does want their performance to be good.

when it's their turn, she gives it her all. not having to sing constantly helps to make sure she's not out of breath, as does mostly having rapping parts that don't require her to remain as steady vocally. surely the judges can't harp on her for that again, at least.

she still has fun with it, though, despite trying to embody some of that mad max grit. she hopes she pulls it off well. she realizes she has a very cute face that she has always felt doesn't match her personality much. hopefully it matches their concept enough.

so jay isn't exactly the best when it comes to softening his words, or lowering his voice when he should, and even when it comes to acting like a respectable human being. but he's acting pretty calm and normal right now, all things considered. maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's in university grounds. it could also be because he's with ( @bejingren ) who while, like everyone else, does unlock jay's menacing streak, is busy doing his own thing.

jay hates being ignored, but he has enough sense not to bother jingren when the other boy is holding his telescope and working with it. he thought of it—wouldn't it be funny, if jay just stands in front of the telescope and all jingren can see is his eyes?—but he ended up busying himself with his own school paper.

he's done with it now though, and in his eureka! moment he knocks jingren's telescope with his elbow, arm stretched into the sky for no particular reason. "oh, sorry." it's as sincere as jay can muster it to be, which isn't much to be honest. "are you done? did you see something cool? constellations and stuff?"

here comes the annoyance (read: jay's series of questions).

"is this for a class or something?" he hums, and before jingren could even answer any of his questions, he keeps talking. "the stars always seem out of reach, huh?"

NGS2P3 — interview

jay thinks one way for him to fix his current reputation on the show is probably to complete a stellar interview that can change the people's mindset about what he's really like. he'll give it a try but—when he starts talking, he usually can't stop.

any thoughts on your team?

"oh yeah, they're great." and he's not being sarcastic at all this time! not an ounce of sarcasm in him, he means it 100%. "they're all creative people, we mesh well. thank god. it'd be hard to be in a team with people you just don't... click with, you know? but we did." he's certain their chemistry off-stage will show on-stage as well. "our brainstorming sessions are always productive too. and we came up with an ambitious concept for our performance."

speaking of, can you explain your concept?

jay was a little worried that their concept would be too ambitious for the lay man to understand. honestly, he thinks they gave off the vibes perfectly well. "retro vibes, think saloons but also cyberpunk. like mad max, if you know the movie. that's our concept. we watched the mv and was inspired by the costumes and the sets, so we decided to go all out with that." jay grins. "i think our storyline is sick too, honestly. a bittersweet fight, just like the song almost."

how do you think you've improved since the last episode?

"ah, well." jay doesn't know—he doesn't want to come off as arrogant either this time around. "i was a bit confused on what balance meant, and what counts as being too intense. but being around other people and having to work together with the others, i'm starting to get it. i also know i need to be a teamplayer now. and, well—i don't know, i had a lot of fun on stage. it wasn't just a... battlefield."

anyone you're thinking about in particular? someone helpful?

"helpful? everyone in the team obviously. every single person in the team contributed. although i was pretty pumped about being in the same team as jingren. i wanna watch him grow too, and now i have front row seat. haha, just kidding." there's another person that comes to mind. "jueun too. thanks to her... i kinda get what the judges are trying to tell me. it sounded like nagging, but i needed it. don't tell her i said that though."

"do you know you're funny?" jay means it—he doesn't know why it's so damn easy with jingren, when this entire time he'd been branded as the grumpy and angry one in the show. what does that say about him? but it's the truth, jingren keeps him laughing for some reason, especially with all the random things the other boy is spewing out. jay doesn't know whether he should take them seriously or not at this point, so just like with everything—he takes it seriously and not so seriously at the same time. he had always been a great multi-tasker after all, juggling a billion things at the same time.

"i think you're good. i mean, you got me hooked right now just talking. oh, i guess that isn't exactly writing. but if you put all that into writing, i'd still want to read it." he nudges jingren's side with an elbow. even with all the cameras around them, definitely capturing this moment because they won't actually have a second to themselves when they've given themselves to the show, jay doesn't feel as tense. does jingren just have that effect on everyone? or does jay just have a strange sense of humour that jingren somehow unlocked?

but then jingren starts talking about the what-ifs. jay tries to imagine it—the possiblity that they'd be seperated for the next round ( if they even make it, that is, he doesn't know if he can wow the judges this time ). "are you trying to make me cry right now? don't even start!" he's kind of whining, which is usually a sign not to take his antics so seriously. but this time, it's sort of genuine. "i think i'd feel the same way... it'd feel so weird. oh no, i've grown attached to you! let me go find some glue so i can stick us together for the entirety of the show." it's a joke, obviously, but—lowkey, jay wants that.

"woah, woah, woah..." jingren says immediately with his hands up. "i mean.... leave me kidnapped on the stage or something and we can have some ransom, cops versus abductor concept instead and i won't have to dance. although that might be a bad idea because that's one of my few assets," he chuckles. he doesn't really know what sort of concepts he fits yet, but nothing like figuring that out here. a rap heavy song might be his downfall though. boy does not know how to rap. "not sure how the others would feel about that concept though. 'don't call me... unless you have the money,' " jingren trails off, mumbling. "never said i was good at creative writing," he quips, bopping jay lightly.

honestly, it may seem like all fun and games with anime references here and there but jingren was really starting to get that feeling. the next group challenge, or solo challenge, if he wasn't with jay - it'd feel so weird. or maybe if they were lucky and could make it through, they could have those cute television, competition friendships that could go viral. ( hey, it could happen. ) but so much of his positivity came from being around jay's vivacious personality. analogies were much easier to say than the actual words themselves. yea, yea. "i mean you do have power.... more than me anyway." vague, but there are some things that are better not said with prying ears.

"what am i going to do without you? i mean, i know i'll always see you after the show and whatnot too but..." funny how they got here from random outings as students in their day to day life. this has been a bonding experience. "if we're split up for the next section, i'd feel so bizarre and i'm not even joking. thanks for... being here. even if it wasn't necessarily your or my choice. thank you rng gods!"

kaito couldn't say that he had been in the other's shoes exactly, though he did know what it was like to be stressed about personal matters or even worries that he had, even more so recently. though, in the end, he also was one that never really did show his own worries about troubles and had a bad habit of keeping things bottled up inside. how was he able to sit here and give this advice to the other male when he couldn't even take his own advice? simple, just tell jingren what he had heard others tell people around him. well mostly anyway. "i think maybe it's just the stress of everything that's happened recently? you became a trainee so now you're having to live by a schedule that you aren't used to, going through change can sometimes be stressful and make you have doubts, though i feel like you'll be able to get through it all. you just have to believe in yourself and trust that everything will play out nicely for you as time goes on." giving a gentle pat to the others back, kaito offers up a smile of reassurance to the other male. "no worries, man. i'll do whatever i can possible to help you out, no need to thank me at all either." taking a moment, he thinks before giving a small, quick, nod of his head. "alright, so let's get you some uh.... therapy shopping going then? is that what they call it?" he asks, giving a small chuckle afterwards. "i wouldn't say that i'm the best when it comes to fashion, though i do tend to keep up with the latest trends... at least the ones that fit my style anyway, though i'm sure we can work together on finding the right stuff for you depending on your own personal taste." he states this with a reassuring nod once more before he begins walking. "i think i remember a new store opening up around here somewhere with at least most of what you're looking for, maybe even bags as well but we'll have to see when we get there."

"thanks for the honesty," which he would always appreciate. jingren wasn't really the type to deal with any sort of sugarcoating, and sometimes couldn't read hints or sarcasm well. "just throwing some ideas out there, because... well. i don't know what i am doing with my life right now. i am... honestly quite confused. maybe i need a therapist," jingren utters, rubbing at the bridge of his nose. he turns back to kaito and stares at him. "thanks for entertaining my ideas. some eats and shopping would be a nice break. i often spend too much time on just necessities or...." only the scholarly or nerdy things. jingren could afford to spend some extra bits on actually fun things, right? wrong. he needs the push from his friends. otherwise he naturally doesn't do it himself.

"yea, some time together or even chilling would be.... helpful. i could look around for some new kicks or a new bag. my laptop bag is seriously on the end of its life. i've had it since freshman year. whoever thought totes were a good idea, was very. very wrong. i think my shoulder will kill me when i am older." jingren rubs at his shoulders, and sighs, glumly. "you got a good eye for fashion?" one wouldn't want to assume, but kaito does look like he's on point all the time.
