a few cannabis related reminders:
(based on my 3 years professional experience in a highly regulated medical marijuana market)
Delta 8/10 is chemically synthesized hemp (like it's damn near power washed with chemicals to turn the cbd-a in hemp into Delta 8 or 10 THC) delta 8/10 THC does occur naturally, but only in trace quantities
Delta 8/10 is also entirely unregulated, there could be anything in the products being sold and there's almost no protections for consumers
Cannabis flower has THCA which converts to THC with heat - so if a store is selling "THCA bud" it's just unregulated weed
Marijuana now is available in high enough concentrations to be addictive in the traditional sense - complete with withdrawal symptoms when quitting
Most people who smoke every day, especially women, will develop Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome, which negatively effects your digestive system
Marijuana Poisoning is a thing now and can include symptoms such as temporary psychosis (i've experienced this, and I almost ruined my life - it's very scary)
Don't trust the streets or the things californians say - in poorer areas especially, there absolutely can be fentanyl in the weed
Some people's digestive systems simply don't have the enzymes to break down THC, and no amount of edible weed will work for them
CBD can bring down a high and has nueroprotective properties that can help reduce the long-term negative side effects of THC usage

First of all, I've absolutely loved the fic, I love how you write them interacting with eachother. Secondly, I'd love to hear more about your lube research because from what I've gathered Vaseline was invented in 1872, but it became a popular lubricant in the mid 1900's and the first comercial lube was invented in 1904.
Thanks for your fic!
I full body CACKLED at this ask 🤣 thank you for liking my fic! It means the world to me that people are liking it!
As for the research…
I am no historian by ANY means, so I just waved my hand around some technical things and made up a rhetoric for myself:
If one person from this couple is a more seasoned veteran on being gay, he’d know more about **things**
Said person is not rich (by the era standards) but he’s probably got good connections in a community that is marginalized and persecuted (meaning, they’ve got each other’s backs and would help out with almost anything, to their abilities)
Probably has had more than 1 partner in the past so it’s trial and error, practice makes perfect, and experience mixed all together
Taking all of this into consideration… while yes, petroleum jelly was **just** invented but hadn’t actually gained a popular status in the market, what were other historically known substances used prior to its invention?
Oils.
And Henry could probably get his hands on some better quality ones (both by his presence as a photographer and how alluring people used to find that profession [ie. payment through services or favors/products for **explicit** photography]). So think, more than the cooking olive oil or oils you’d find in a kitchen, he’d probably have access to things like clove oil or even hemp seed oil. Maybe even GOOD quality ones that come from outside England (importing them would’ve made them wayyy more expensive, but if poppy sold for cheaper than bread, surely some seller would sell nice oils for a more affordable price).
… or they could’ve easily raw-dogged it and used saliva.

THCa flower, the stakes are high and the chances are slim…
Dateline 1-3-24
It’s cold outside here in Middle Tennessee, so The Old Hemp Farmer is nursing a wonderful hot cup of organic Indonesian coffee and noshing some Costa Rican Cacao fortified with Tennessee homegrown Cannabis extract. Which is just one of the many Tennessee homegrown Recreational Cannabis edibles that’ll remain legal after July 1st of this year, which is a good thing because we will probably lose three different revenue streams - D8 Vape cartridges, THCa Pre-rolls and D8/D9 Tinctures unless…
So this morning’s blurb is about how possibly the high THCa Industry can be salvaged here in Tennessee. There are two scenarios that can possible save the Cannabis “cash cow” that is known as THCa. The first scenario that could save your THCa favorite product could start January 9th when the 2024 Tennessee legislative session commences. During this upcoming legislative session the House and Senate could simple rewrite HB0304 to state that all testing would be for Delta 9 THC only and this would apply to Cannabis grown by licensed Tennessee farmers. Lee Crabtree and I have been compliantly growing Cannabis in the state for going on eight years and presently we have to watch the majority of THCa flower being sold in Tennessee being Black Market grown other states. There is only one way to battle Black Market Cannabis and that is to have a Vertical (grown, processed, packaged and inspected in state) Cannabis program that provides relatively inexpensive high THCa flower that can be accessed easily. Which is an easily understood concept but I strongly doubt the Republican Super majority that control the Tennessee House and Senate are going to be comfortable with basically sensible Cannabis laws. So The Old Hemp Farmer doesn’t see HB0403 rewritten to save high THCa Flower because the majority of folks in the Tennessee Statehouse still harbor animosity against marijuana, which is basically what high THCa Flower actually is, so that ship probably won’t sail.
The other way that could possibly salvage the high THCa flower Industry in Tennessee is the ongoing campaign of petitioning the Tennessee Department of Agriculture with letters, phone calls and texts to amend the methodology (testing for Delta 9 THC from post decarboxylation to pre decarboxylation) of testing Cannabis products. (Doesn’t seem like much but the difference is everything to wholesalers and retailers.) With the Culmination of this “Save The THCA flower” campaign being hopefully a mass of Cannabis folks attending the town hall meeting where Public comment is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Porter Building Atrium. So let us say a gang of folks actually do contact their legislators and the TDA to plead for high THCa flower and products, will this approach work? Maybe, maybe not. I’m not sure if people realize that the Tennessee Department of Agriculture was founded in 1854 and is the oldest state agency in Tennessee. This Cabinet-level agency is one of the largest and most firmly entrenched bureaucracies in Tennessee executive branch and supposedly only answers to the Governor. Which means the TDA can’t be voted out of office so they know their jobs are safe. Assured longevity has its rewards. Also know that the forthcoming lack of the public’s access to high THCa flower and the loss of revenue at Cannabis companies isn’t a crisis at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. But be assured that the TDA will listen attentively but in the end these civil servants will do what they think is best for their agency and their pensions. Anyway as always, Hemp Dawgs and Hemp Puppies keep one eye on the weather and the other eye on the market.

Is CBD Oil Safe and Worth Your Money?
A medical cannabis expert weeds the hype from the truth about the herbal cure for pain, depression, anxiety and insomnia.
You can’t turn on a daytime TV program or flip open a lifestyle magazine without hearing or reading about CBD, short for cannabidiol. It’s the biggest buzzword in holistic health news, and statistically speaking, it is expected to reach around 1.8 billion dollars in U.S. consumer sales by 2022, a whopping increase from around half a billion dollars in 2018.
What exactly is CBD?
CBD is the non-intoxicating component of the cannabis sativa plant. Cannabis plants can either be classified as hemp or marijuana depending on the quantity or percentage of THC in either plant. This distinction was established by the FDA: Cannabis plants with 0.3 percent or less of THC are considered hemp and those with more that 0.3 percent are consider marijuana.
So in a nutshell, CBD that is derived from hemp will not make you high. You should also ask your primary physician about using CBD while taking medications.
Kisha Vanterpool, medical director of Medicinally Jointed, a medical cannabis spa and alternate health practice located in South Philadelphia, says the biggest misconception her patients have is understanding the difference between CBD and THC.
“Some associate CBD solely with cannabis (marijuana) which carries its own stigma of being used to attain a high,” the board-certified internist explains. “But really, cannabis is an herbal medicine that has many benefits. Through educating my patients around the plant as medicine and how it interacts within our bodies, patients then become more open to its use.”
What is CBD used for?
Studies show consumers are using CBD — sold in oils, lotions, balms, bath salts, coffee, oral sprays and gummies — as a specific therapy for pain, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders. Depending on the product, prices range from $20 to $100.
Nira Hyman turned to CBD three years ago to help manage chronic back pain and joint inflammation she’s endured for about 15 years. The 46-year-old was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, a type of rheumatoid arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis, which affects the spine.
“Chronic pain is quite isolating, so I’m open to trying almost anything. My research led me to THC, then to CBD. It helps mute the pain. It’s still there, but the volume of the pain is dialed down. CBD doesn’t manage my pain on its own, but using that along with other stuff on my regimen can make a difference,” she says.
“Most of what I use is handmade. It’s expensive but worth it. Friends ship balms or soaks to me. And yes, the sellers are Black. I believe strongly that Black women belong in the cannabis industry, so the louder our voices the better.”
The Brooklyn, New York, native also uses CBD to alleviate anxiety. “It may be a placebo effect, but I do feel it helps my anxiety. And I prefer using something that’s natural and naturally medicinal. I’d much rather take CBD — and I do use high doses — than opioids. My doctors agree, off the record,” says Hyman.
Vanterpool recommends CBD to her female patients to help them with anxiety, insomnia, hot flashes, menstrual cramps, endometriosis and other chronic pain. When shopping for CBD products, she suggests consumers research the product “to ensure that it truly contains CBD and has been tested for contaminants such as pesticides, bacteria and fungus/mold.”
Is CBD FDA-regulated?
Not currently. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently published a consumer update on its website (FDA.gov) that addresses the claims that cannabinoid (CBD) is a cure-all, risk-free miracle drug.
Although the FDA is presently gathering data from health professionals, cannabis industry representatives and patients to learn more about the efficacy of CBD, the agency wrote, "there are many unanswered questions about the science, safety and quality of products containing CBD.”
Where can I find CBD products in my area, and is it legal in all fifty states?
Remember the 69-year-old grandmother from North Carolina who was arrested at Disney World for packing CBD oil in her purse?
Federal law says CBD oil products are legal to possess if they contain no more than 0.3 percent THC, and CBD products are readily available online. Do your research to find products that are safe, effective and legal. Consumerreports.org has an informative guide. Be aware, however, that some states like Florida, Ohio and Texas generally don’t differentiate hemp from marijuana. So before you purchase or travel with CBD, check the state laws.

Why does every criticism I read on this come from someone who has apparently never heard of cotton? Or denim? Hemp? Bamboo? Linen? Cork?
These are not exactly niche 'vegan materials' that you can only find in high-end vegan clothes retailers that you won't find anywhere else. Wool has never been difficult to replace, and leather doesn't even need to be replaced in most contexts. "There is no currently non-plastic alternative to most animal-based textile products" is just obviously, objectively untrue.
Wool as an item that animals 'didn't even die to produce' is true only if you ignore the wider context of sheep farming, because practically speaking, yes you do. Sheep have their lambs taken from them during lambing season to be sold for meat, and the ewes themselves will be slaughtered for their meat once their profitability declines. Wool as a fabric is not very profitable, meat is how you subsidise your profit margins and is standard practice on both small family farms and corporate mega-farms.
I don't know where you are finding these vegans who think that our choices don't have negative impacts? Cruelty-free is literally just a marketing term, nobody seriously thinks that you can buy anything without having some sort of impact. Yes, we know that our lifestyle isn't free from harm either, there is a post like this in the vegan tag every single day, making almost the exact same points as if learned by rote, so how could we not?
What this essentially boils down to is just 'your choices cause harm too, so there.' What are you trying to advocate for, exactly? You know that animal fabrics involve enormous cruelty and environmental degradation, just as we know that plastic causes massive environmental harm, too. But we strongly object to animals being exploited to produce our clothing, and it is possible for us to stop funding that industry, so we do.
That doesn't mean we're using any more plastic than anyone else is, or that we can't be committed to both reducing plastic use and boycotting animal fabrics. We can care about more than one issue. This absurd false dichotomy where we pretend that the only options are animal fabrics or plastic is made all the more ridiculous by the fact that most people wearing wool/leather are also wearing plastic. This is ignoring the fact that most wool knitwear is also blended with plastic, just as many vegan alternatives are.
Most people who buy leather and wool aren't wearing any less plastic than they would have been had they not also been buying cruel and environmentally destructive animal fabrics on top of plastic items. Plastic is so ubiquitous in fast fashion not because it is vegan, but because it is cheap. Most people who are choosing to buy plastic shoes over far more durable leather ones aren't doing that because they're vegan, they're doing it because they can't afford leather.
Even ignoring that other options exist outside of this obvious false dilemma, wool and leather are also destroying the planet, as you have acknowledged. Both require enormous amounts of land, resources and energy to produce, on top of the emissions in production. Both cows and sheep are infamous for the damage they do to local ecosystems through grazing, sheep in particular, and the GHG emissions from raising cows to slaughter weight isn't exactly an industry secret. They're not much better than plastic by most metrics, and by some metrics they are actually worse.
If your point is just that you want to remind us that we too cause harm, then congratulations - we know. If you wanted to tell us that plastic is also bad then fine, yes, we know that too. But if you want to pretend that boycotting animal fabrics means you are somehow an advocate for plastic use, or that no more sustainable alternatives to animal fabrics exist besides plastic, then that is blatant misinformation.
You need to stop contributing to the false narrative that if you aren’t buying animal fabrics then you’re just stuck with plastic. It is precisely this kind of arbitrary narrowing of options that leads people to buy more plastic when they can't afford animal fabrics.
no but genuinely I lose a little more patience for people who won't wear wool, leather, silk, or fur every day that I live in a world where plastic is increasingly the only damn kind of clothing you can find (or the only kind of fabric for sewing, even)
obviously, animal cruelty is horrible. I believe that even industries that rely on the deaths of animals should make their lives as good and their ends as humane as possible. and many of these industries need tighter environmental regulations on their production practices- some of the chemicals involved are highly toxic and ill-controlled at times
but at some point, you have to wake up to the fact that the only alternative we've found to date is destroying our planet
it's all plastic. and plastic is horrible for the world- the environment, humans, and especially animals. how cruelty-free is it to cause mass habitat loss? or climate change that disrupts food sources for those animals on a vast scale? how is that better than the deaths of a relatively small proportion of animals comparatively?
(and don't even start with "but pineapple leather! but cactus leather!" when those are still basically plastic due to heavy plastics use in their production processes. there is currently no non-plastic alternative to most animal-based textile products)
I've always tried to keep in mind that we all have to decide where our line is, that we all consume and there's no way of living in this world that doesn't take something from it. that for me, plastic clothing is to be avoided as much as possible, and for others, animal clothing products are to be avoided as much as possible. that the choice is equally valid
but I'm having a hard time seeing it as valid anymore when it just feels like trying to push the unpleasant part away from yourself so you can pretend your choice has no negative impacts. you're not wearing animal skin (or wool that an animal didn't even die to produce), so surely your way of doing things is better! no animals were harmed in the making of your outfit!
except. they were.
they and all the rest of us.

On the brighter side, a CBD business starter kit can get you off to a good start. Starter kits usually consist of everything you might need to begin, including samples of CBD products, marketing materials, and sometimes even advise on how to navigate legalities.
What Can the Starter Kit Contain?

Marketing materials: such as brochures, templates, branding guides
Wholesale contacts and supplier information
Complete installation guide for your e-commerce site

Striding toward Empowerment: Black-Owned CBD Businesses
That leads to an ever-increasingly inclusive CBD world where black-owned CBD businesses rise to prove the point. Entrepreneurs with unique styles that represent the diversity of the world bring a new view into the market. Grow equity in an industry that’s been disproportionately affected by previous laws about cannabis dropshipping through supporting businesses owned by blacks.
Tumblr media
White Label CBD: The Lock to Easy Expansion
If you are interested in entering the CBD industry but do not want to be bothered with developing a product, white label CBD products is your answer. White label CBD means that you partner with a manufacturer who has ready-made CBD products for you. Quick to enter the market: Since the product already exists, you can start selling almost immediately.

This is an excellent opportunity for marketers who want to focus more on marketing rather than manufacturing. From CBD infused wines to private-label skincare, there are myriad white-label options available.
Opportunities for Black-Owned CBD Companies to Succeed
This is indeed the future up and about for black-owned businesses in the CBD space. There is an obvious requirement for various perspectives and product lines reflective of different communities. Tumblr media
CBD Dropshipping:How to Begin Your Low-Risk Business Selling CBD
In a no-holding inventory type of business, one of the excellent options to start your CBD business is dropshipping CBD. By using CBD dropshipping, you can collaborate with third party suppliers who will handle all the way to how to store and when to ship so you don’t have to worry about the same and could focus more on marketing and expanding your business.
Why Opt for fournisseur CBD dropshipping?
Low overhead costs: You do not incur expenses on inventory or storage space, and you do not manage your logistics in shipping.
Scalability: You do not have to look for more room for your inventory every time your business increases. The more you sell, the more you can add and order.
Flexibility: It is very easy to offer a variety of products within a dropshipping model, without necessarily ordering large quantities.
Whatever you want to sell — be it oils, skincare, gummies, or even CBD-infused wines- you could simply start running a dropship CBD business to get introduced to the world of CBD.
The Magic of Private Label CBD
Private labeling is how thousands of entrepreneurs have differentiated their products from a sea of sameness. By custom branding, you build a loyal customer base that associates your brand with quality and trust.
Tumblr media
CBD Wholesale and Private Label Manufacturers: Finding the Right Partner for Success
To guarantee that your private label business remains successful, it is vital to get hold of a correct CBD wholesale private label manufacturer. On top of the quality products, the right partner will help you in navigating regulatory requirements, product development, and packaging options.
Finding the Right CBD Manufacturer:
Quality assurance: Check if the private label CBD manufacturers adheres to proper quality control and sells lab-tested and certified products.
Customization options: Look for manufacturers that can provide flexible formulation and packaging to help your brand’s unique personality shine through.
Compliance support: Work with a company that understands CBD regulations and supports maintaining regulation compliance.

I have not seen a single source actually extend this prohibition to cotton-poly blends ever.
Important context: polyester was first created in the mid 1930's (research of these synthetics, expanding off of Viscose-Rayon, began in the 1920's under the Dupont company, which led to the invention of Nylon). Polyester fiber was not invented until 1941.
So in terms of semi- and fully synthetic fibers:
Viscose-Rayon (interchangeable terms) is first commercially available in 1905. Later derivatives fall under this broad category of semi-synthetic fiber, which includes the derivatives and specialty process Viscose-Rayon fibers such as: Lyocell, Tencel, Modal/Micro-Modal, and Cupro. Also if it's labelled bamboo, it's a bamboo viscose/rayon. Rayon is sometimes called "Sabra silk" or "cactus silk."
Nylon is announced by DuPont in 1938 ahead of the 1939 World's Fair in NYC. Women's nylon stockings were not broadly commercially sold until 1940, but when the US joined WWI, nylon production was diverted almost entirely to military uses. (Although apparently a few thousand nylon stockings were sold in Delaware before this, fun fact.)
Neoprene was invented in 1930, originally marketed in 1931 as duprene (because it was, you guessed it, invented by DuPont company).
Spandex (aka Lycra or Elastane) is invented in 1985, once again by a scientist at DuPont.
PVC was discovered in 1872 by a German chemist but a method to plasticize and use it commercially was invented later in 1926. polyurethane, or PU, was created under a German company called IG Farben in 1937 (these polymers were not covered under the patents for polyester fabric under Wallace Carothers at DuPont). Early work with PU was created pretty much just for the German war efforts. Today, manufacturers sometimes equate Polyester, PVC, and PU somewhat unclearly, often because polyester is used in PVC and PU fabrics.
ANYWAYS all that to say: most of these fibers were not immediately commercially available after their inventions. and even then, a lot of them were first produced immediately before or during WWII, and manufacturing went towards the war efforts in the US, Germany, and Britain.
They're extremely new. (Elastics and Latex/Rubber are slightly older as far as these things go.) So far as I know, no Jewish halakhic scholar has ever stopped to argue that mixing these fibers would be shatnez post-WWII.
Maybe someone has! But like, checking orthodox sources like chabad, star-k kosher, seal k kosher, breslev, various shatnez labs, etc — no one says anything other than wool-linen blends. Yeshiva Har Bracha actually cites the popularity of cotton and synthetic fibers as a major factor in why shatnez is much less common today than it ever was before!
If I were to say anything was too close to shatnez, I would probably argue that Ramie (and maybe Hemp?) could be lumped together with Linen in "wool blend bans" — based on appearance, performance, characteristics, and means of production.
The quick argument: you can more easily mistake Ramie for Flax Linen, and sometimes Ramie is sold as linen. The plants themselves are completely unrelated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Left image is a blonde flax linen fiber, right image is the pure white Ramie fiber.]
Some people use linen today to generically mean any bast fiber:
...that is, one made of the phloem (inner layer) of natural plant fibres. Accordingly, there is flax linen, ramie linen, hemp linen, nettle linen, and even bamboo linen, all of them being lumped under the one designation, "linen", both by manufacturers and the clothing trade.  The important point to remember is that generally speaking, flax and ramie are virtually impossible to distinguish from each other chemically once they're made into cloth, but the woven textiles themselves can often be identified based on their physical properties or characteristics.  Recent research has shown that ramie and flax fibres may be able to be identified microscopically through a multi-faceted approach, an important factor for museums with historical textile collections.
[...]
Distinguishing true linen from ramie does take some experience and careful observation, but once you’ve handled the two fabrics side-by-side a few times, especially if they are of a similar weight, you’ll rarely need to wonder again.
The Fashion Archaeologist on Linen vs Ramie "But How do I tell them apart?" So I could easily see "don't mix Ramie and wool," being a matter of putting a fence around Torah. It's possible to differentiate true flax linen and ramie based on educated knowledge of the two materials, but Ramie is often sold as true flax linen, even though it's not (China allows Ramie to be sold as linen, so you could actually be getting Ramie, not true linen!). Also differentiating between Ramie and linen even with expertise can be difficult if the samples are very small (comparing threads as opposed to full weaves).
But I would exclude cotton as being obviously different enough (from linen) especially since it's not made from the phloem of a plant and the characteristics of each fiber are more readily obvious.
The reasons to minimize poly blends are:
microplastics shed by polyester and other synthetics are bad for the environment!!! Real bad!
Synthetic fibers aren't very breathable
Manufacturers are making them to be cheaper and cheaper as time goes on, so the quality is often poor. Polyester? Isn't supposed to wrinkle! But cheap polyester does!
If they're "wicking away" sweat, they're also retaining all that sweat and stink, sometimes even after washing. :(
Plastics/elastics inevitably shrink with repeated washing and I for one, and sick of having my poly-blend work slacks and blouses shrink drastically over a few months. Makes me feel feral. I hate it!!!!!
My 2024 goal has been to avoid buying and slowly eliminate from my wardrobe almost everything with a synthetic blend over like, 5%, barring some notable exceptions (swimsuits! Formal dresses!) I've been donating or using textile recycling programs to get rid of old clothes I don't love lately.
listen to me very very closely: the biblical prohibition against mixing linen and wool is the most SENSIBLE THING IN THE WORLD, do not write it off as silly, unreasonable, or unnecessary. g-d didn’t tell us not to mix linen and wool for no reason, g-d told us not to mix linen and wool together because mixing them is an affront to textiles

Texas Democrat Smokes a Joint in Bizarre Pro-Marijuana Campaign Ad (VIDEO)
My name is Sally Duvall, and I’m running for the Texas House of Representatives. You might already know what’s in this, but do you know who has no idea and no way to test it? Law enforcement. They arrest people every day for marijuana possession, but they don’t have the funding to test if it’s illegal marijuana or a federally legal hemp product. Our laws are confusing and unclear, while marijuana remains illegal for most Texans. Hemp products that can get you high, like Delta 8, Delta 9, and THCA, are being sold at more than 7,000 retailers statewide. Our Lieutenant Governor, he wants to both regulate and ban these products. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you can’t do both of these things. Fortunately, we don’t have to choose between safety and legalization. We can and should have both, but it’s going to take leaders who know enough and care enough to do what’s right. My opponent doesn’t, which is a real shame. Not only will legalization and regulation help support our small farmers and medically complex Texans, but the tax revenue could be used to help fund education, public health, and mental health services.

“While regulating THC limits for hemp and CBD products is common practice around the world—it’s capped at 0.3% in some U.S. states, for example—Japan’s proposed new cap of 0.001% for oils (and even lower for beverages and products in other forms) has been slammed by advocates and experts as unrealistic and likely a death knell for Japan’s CBD industry, effectively banning the substance altogether, as some regional neighbors like China have recently moved to do.
“If this goes through, I would say … 90% of the businesses will go out of business,” Toshiki Inoue, the founder of cannabis brand Chillaxy, tells TIME, adding that “close to none” of the CBD products being sold in Japan will be able to adhere to the 0.001% THC limit.
Concerns have already been rippling among people who have been using CBD to alleviate their medical conditions. Experts say that Japan’s explicit legalization of cannabis-derived medicines will likely only apply to highly-regulated pharmaceuticals for extreme cases, such as the drug Epidiolex that’s used to treat severe forms of epilepsy. But a group of people who use recreational CBD products for conditions ranging from cancer to chronic pain have started a petition to protest the proposed THC limits, claiming that it would seriously affect their quality of life.”

How can we get Gold from the Golden Fibre?
Tumblr media
Due to its natural colour and importance jute has become known as the ‘golden fibre’ . The fabric has little impact on the environment and is proven to be very durable and the plants are easy to grow, produce a large crop and do not require various pesticides and fertilizers. The fiber is a relation of the flax and hemp plants and is extracted by a very similar method. Jute has a vast array of uses ranging from carpet backing to re-usable bags. Jute is mainly grown in India in the fertile Ganges Delta where it produces a high yield annual crop.
India is the largest producer and consumer of jute products in the world. The figure is around 1.97 million MT for India, followed by 1.24 million MT for Bangladesh, our neighbor and second largest producer, but world’s largest exporter. Yet, interest in this fiber is withering away in India due to less interest of people. We need to revive the same. The jute products include rugs, carpets, footwear, wine bottle bags, carry bags, hand bags, wall hangings, jewellery, baskets, coasters, lamp shades, decorative articles and show pieces. Slowly jute is losing market despite the fact that it is reusable, eco-friendly and bio degradable. 92% Jute is used for packaging which is under regulation which says all of food grain has to be packaged in jute bags only. Only balance 8% used for other purposes. However, demand for jute is on a downward trend because of cost competitiveness of mass production from synthetic fibres. Moreover, there are fluctuations in Government Demand for packaging, according to media reports. But, Government of India is keen to develop the sector and has hiked the MSP. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in March 2024 approved ₹285/quintal hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for raw jute to ₹5,335/quintal for the 2024-25 season as against ₹5,050/quintal for the 2023-24. The Government of West Bengal is providing Crop Insurance too, which gives a lot of security to the sector.
To improve the Jute Market, we may take Bangladesh as a reference point here, since they give 3-4 types of subsidy, including 9-10% subsidy for food packing bags. Perhaps, subsidy may be needed to revive Jute demand, in matter other than packaging. And once the desired scale is achieved the subsidy can be withdrawn. But, to work out the needed subsidy, we require detailed research. Last, but not the least, we also need to ensure only ‘Made in India’ Jute is being sold in India. We welcome your thoughts for helping the Industry to grow. Do write to us.

True, people nowadays are much more disconnected from where their clothing comes from than they were for most of history :(
I guess I wouldn't blame them for thinking that, but for posting about it so confidently? ehhghhhh, yeah, I do.
I don't think anyone gets to call a name "pretentious" if they don't even know wether it refers to a fibre or a weave structure, and I think it's reasonable to expect someone to know what a thing is made of before they complain about that it's made of. A quick google search at the very least.
Every piece of taffeta I have is silk! I have only ever seen sateen in cotton! Broadcloth just means it's wide!! I have wool broadcloth!
The whole "just say plastic" sentiment I've been seeing around tumblr a lot the past few years is one I both agree with and am annoyed by.
I agree in that I very much hate when fabric stores use deceptive labels, like polyester that's made to look kind of like linen sold as "linen look", or all the various ways they're making fake leather now that's pretending to be plant based but is still mostly vinyl.
But it's also irritating because there are so many different kinds of synthetic fibre with so many different purposes (elastane for being very stretchy, lurex for being very shiny and sparkly, etc.) and just calling it all plastic is much less informative. Specific names for those are useful, and complaining about those being accurately labelled is as foolish as going "cotton, linen, hemp? ugh so pretentious just say plant fibre".
I've even seen synthetic whalebone listed in one of those kinds of posts! (I think in one where you reblogged it and pointed out that synthetic whalebone is a specific product made to mimic the properties of actual whalebone, and that it's synthetic for a very good reason, but due to tumblr's wonderfully effective search function I cannot find it.)
I think part of the problem here is that people on the internet are allergic to nuance. Can't complain about a thing being overused but useful in some circumstances, the opinion pendulum must swing all the way and declare it all bad.
I AM a polyester hater, but I also appreciate the small percentage of spandex in my socks, and the shiny lurex in my metallic/silk blend brocades.
Yes I am frustrated by how much fabric is polyester, but I'm also very annoyed by people who know absolutely nothing about textiles just assuming every fabric word they don't recognize must be plastic.
Big "oooh there are CHEMICALS in my food that I can't pronounce, they must be bad!!" energy.

If Ron Paul got on the ballot, I'd go whole hog in getting folks to vote for him. As it sits
Chase Oliver 2024
I really felt I didn't know what the Libertarian party stood for for awhile there. Felt like shit had changed in some bad ways. Chase Oliver proved those thoughts wrong.
So yeah, now everyone on Tumblr can see exactly who I'm voting for. Dudes got good looking policy that empowers the average citizen to make money and keep it, wants to reform LEGAL immigration, wants to end the war on drugs, and remove qualified immunity but let police do their jobs.
These are things which should sound good to anyone. More jobs, potentially more exports, more independent businesses, and more food (because hemp can make decent food for vegans that doesn't require exploiting third world farmers for staple crops), and less government overreach.
Like, anyone that follows this blog knows I'm anti-state, but willing to tolerate it as it shrinks. No more legal barriers to entry for starting a small business sounds damn fine to me.
For example: David has a boat, David has a fishing pole, but David doesn't have a license for commercial fishing, he only wants to sell between six and 30 fish to a wholesaler, the daily catch limit for between one and all the fish species he's likely to catch. He's not selling hundreds to thousands of fish, but his government says "Wild caught fish can have diseases and worms, so you can only catch and cook them for yourself" despite the customers being willing to take that risk for the superior product. David instead breaks the law to provide the people with what they want for a small profit, made larger because of the risk David puts himself in as opposed to it being legal, so David can sell the fish for a power price, en masse, and then it can be sold for a lower price than David would have to charge for doing so illegally. Making it more affordable to the end user and easier/less expensive for David and his wholesaler.
That's all just a hypothetical, but it is based on actual laws and solutions to those laws which make it easier for people to make money. The sort of laws that make it easier are on the books in Florida, but not in NY, where only bait fish can be sold. In Florida, any saltwater fish can be sold to any wholesaler. Allowing me to find the best selling price for any fish I catch in the ocean, while doing minimal/no long lasting harm to the environment.
In conclusion
Chase Oliver 2024. Vote Libertarian.
