“I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable: I shall know that somewhere there is a firm foothold, even if my feet cannot stand there again.”
Frodo Baggins, The Fellowship of the Ring pg. 68
#guys this is before he even LEAVES the Shire#before the Old Forest before the Council Meeting before Moria before Amon Hen#This isn’t a make-or-break situation#Frodo just genuinely love the Shire#He shows it a million times#Just by carrying the Ring#But he moves out of his ancestral home just to make sure that the Ring is safe when he first learns about it#And it’s so so devastating re-reading this#It’s such a small quote and easily read over#But it means so much to Frodo#Because he comes back and the Shire /isn’t/ okay#The shire is burning and torn and broken#Just like Frodo feels at that point#But they repair the Shire#not Frodo not in ME#This is so important to the rest of the book too#Whenever they get in a bind in Mordor Sam brings up the Shire to give Frodo hope#And frodo never stands there again#Not really#he can’t go home because he’s been changed on such a fundamental level that he can’t stay#He saved the shire and that’s enough for him#Even though his feet cannot stand there again#frodo baggins#the lord of the rings#kiki re-re-re-reads the lord of the rings#it’s more than that but the point gets across#tolkien quotes#just yelling into the void#quotes
