OKOKOK damn yall were pretty evenly split, for a while there the correct answer was losing hilariously badly but some of yall pulled through.

for reference: Gurji Taeja is a salarian special tactics and reconnaissance agent, descendant of the first spectre gurji beelo. originally trained for the priesthood of the salarian death gods, she left sur'kesh after laying her first clutch of eggs (and subsequently getting sterilized to avoid doing That again) and ran with the mercenary gang eclipse for a while. when that went south, she was recruited for the spectres instead. she's a self-proclaimed "siege-breaker," like if the terminator was just a regular person and also an alien salamander. she's the one you call when you want that dude over there, specifically, as dead as possible, and maybe also all of his goons please, and hey, what's a few city blocks of collateral damage along the way? she's also known to run with the batarian resistance from time to time, and is... estranged from her family, to say the least, despite grudgingly working with them when need arises.

let's go through all 3 options, shall we?

1. half of her brain is piloted by a VI

verdict: TRUTH

before she worked for the council, taeja... let's say she's just really fucking hard to kill, yeah? first her brother vox tried to get her eaten by predators, but she survived (with uhh some heavy scarring and a now-bad leg) so she fucked off to omega and ran with the mercenary gang eclipse for a while. that worked out fine until eclipse tried to get her to help with sapient trafficking, and long story short, she razed the place to the ground, but they also tried to raze her back. she did manage to walk out of the burning base, shredded and several bones broken and maybe a little bit burning alive, but she did fucking walk. she needed a lot of surgery and cybernetic implants to survive, including repairing the severe brain damage and networking her brain to the many cybernetics now wired into her. the VI running half her brain isn't the chatty sort, and nowhere near developed enough to have its own personality, but she's rather attached to it.

2. she was recruited for special tactics by saren

verdict: LIE

not saren! he was around and in the area, but it was in fact his partner in bullshit nihlus who recruited taeja. they were on omega pursuing a lead when the eclipse base went up in smoke, and they heard via bar gossip about the half-mad salarian who did it. nihlus wanted to check it out for himself, and met taeja in the hospital. despite all her injuries, she tried very, very hard to point a gun at him, certain that he was sent by eclipse to finish the job. impressed by her tenacity (and maybe a little worried about her ability to feel pain), nihlus offered a deal: if she agreed to work for special tactics, the council would be able to arrange for getting her off omega and getting her better healthcare. taeja hesitantly accepted, and while nihlus didn't end up being her mentor (the council preferring to place trainees with their own species whenever possible), she does have a grudging gratitude to him for signing her ticket off Murder Station.

she killed her father via stabbing, then shooting

verdict: TRUTH

taeja's father delan was very emotionally abusive, and wielded religion and fear to get his way. taeja was a very small and anxious child who seemingly never spoke, and very, very afraid of him - until her brother tried to kill her, and she had something of an awakening. the first time she left sur'kesh, delan tried to intimidate her into staying. she stabbed a knife into his hand to pin him to the table while she grabbed her bag and ran. the second time, after the whole incident with eclipse and being recruited for the spectres, he tried to get in her face again, but she'd had several years to gain self-confidence and learn to call an abusive piece of shit exactly that. they got into a row, and taeja stabbed him in the kidneys. she intended to let him bleed out on the floor, but she grew frustrated with how long it was taking and annoyed with how much noise and mess he was making, so she shot him in the head to get it over with.

based on the recording you can find of his recruitment in the archives in the citadel dlc, he seems a bit of a self-assured, smug asshole, so i tried to make his pose reflect that, lol. his skin coloration is inspired by an amazon milk frog. why’s he missing a finger? hell if i know, dude’s been dead 1500 years, he can have some fun and sexy secrets.
