so. chromakopia dropped last month.

AND OH MY GOD. my friend and i (@iceespizza) were joking that chromakopia would drop a week after the ST. CHROMA teaser dropped like haha silly but imagine if it did tho AND IT DID. WE ARE PSYCHICS GUYS. but anyways jokes aside on my first listen i wasn't really into it, felt like it was kinda underwhelming; but after a whole month of listening, OH MY GOD THIS ALBUM IS SPECTACULAR!!! also people are saying this is tyler's mmatbs (which i get) but i compare this album more to DAMN. than mmatbs ANYWAYYSS now that this album has dropped this is my ranking of all the tyler albums!! :> (bastard and the estate sale included) 1. IGOR (10/10, loved every song from this album. favorite tracks from this album is EVERY SINGLE ONE. I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE is good but it's not one of my favorites sadly) 2. CHROMAKOPIA (9/10, again, loved every song from this album, balloon was a bit iffy but i get the vibe. not as good as IGOR tho.. i'm not sure if he can top that.) 3. CMIYGL (8.5/10, LOVE THE VIBE OF THIS ALBUM!! this is how you brag folks. favorite tracks from this album) 4. Flower Boy (8.3/10, i KNOW it's kinda overrated, buuutt.. you gotta admit it's a good album) 5. THE ESTATE SALE (8/10, felt like it was kinda dragging on, but still had really good tracks like SORRY NOT SORRY and BOYFRIEND, GIRLFRIEND) 6. CHERRY BOMB (7/10, you people KNOW how much i love this album, it gets wayyyy too much hate for how surprisingly good it is. some tracks are a bit iffy tho) 7. Wolf (6/10, love this album but it's not as good as the previous ones. love the storyline of this album though.) 8. Bastard (5/10, really like the sound of this album but it's not my personal favorite. also, it's not as good as the previous albums above.) 9. Goblin (4/10, the only tracks i like from this album are she and yonkers. unoriginal, i know.)

HI WE'RE FROG AND BEE. I can be like really really like loud and weird or like. miserable and stuff cause of my mood swings . AND LIKE. it's like. hard to tell ourselves apart sometimes but really easy. other times. so it turns into this whole talking at the same time as a whole i can't explain-

Hi Sylvia,

I don’t have very many encounters with grasshoppers, only that one time when i met Tom. I spent most days in the village, at home back then. I have things to occupy my time and i have no reason to leave really. I would be lying if i said i didn’t want to know what it was like to live in the city though. On a slow Tuesday night i was scrolling on beebuzz, the dating app, when i came across Tom.

I had seen him at the village farmers market often. It’s quite hard to miss a grasshopper dressed like a pirate. I suspect most city folk who take the bus into the village for the farmers market, frequent there because of the bakers wife’s fresh cake slices. My go to is always strawberry cream. I’ve heard the lemon curd is good too. Tom often carry’s his basket of fruits and vegetables and visits the used vinyl sale before he disappears for the week. Albeit i don’t run into him every week, on Thursdays i sleep in a little, so I miss the morning shoppers. We’ve never smiled at each other or acknowledged the others presence, so when i swiped right, i was pleasantly taken aback by the match.

We met the next day, he came into the village and we had an evening stroll around the fields. Summer was just coming to an end, so the evening winds were carrying a familiar chill. It was still warm enough to not carry a jacket, but it was nice when he offered his. The days following that were mostly, texting. Tom was a student, majoring in chemistry and physics he told me. Most of his interests and hobbies revolved around that. We only shared one thing in common and that was music. He played the bass and i played the triangle. His music taste was so vast, i couldn’t help but feel drawn. I felt he felt the same way about me. So we spoke about that the most.

Four days later, he invited me to come over to his for dinner. I already had dinner plans that i had made with a friend, but it was in the same area he lived. So i asked if it was okay if i could come for coffee after. He said sure. That evening, I said bye to my friend. I told him about how I was going to meet and he was a lot more cautious than i was, then again i hadn’t met a mouse who wasn’t. So he made me share my live location with him and made me promise to call him about his grandma if i needed help. I appreciated it all greatly, despite feeling lonely in the relationship department, i felt the warmth of the friends i had made in the last few years.

He lived in an old apartment complex. He said his best mate lived next door but he had left the country for a few weeks on holiday. There was a sign on the front window that said, ‘Tom stop stealing my butter just because you have my key’. He told me he has enough money to buy his own butter, from his part time job at the newspaper stand; he didn’t when he was in his first year. But he still scoops in a fat spoon in the middle of the slab of butter 2 days before his friend comes back.

He lived in a quaint studio apartment. I told him it was beautiful, he told me he had just cleaned it before i came. Cleanliness was not what i meant, i said, it was beautiful regardless. The wrinkles near his eyes scrunched when he smiled.

Tom had piles of large thick textbooks stacked on top of each other all across the wooden floor boards. I glanced at the topmost name when he left to grab me a glass of water. Something something quantum physics, it said. I sat on the edge of the green couch admiring the soft yellow light reflecting on the large monstera plant in the corner. He showed me Solange’s new album from the living room projector. He said the way she uses shapes was interesting, i think i understood.

Then he rolled some leaf into an old pipe, and asked me if i would like some. I said yes, mostly because I was at the age i would never say no to free leaf, but i was also fascinated. I had never smoked from a pipe before. As my mind moved into a daze, i watched as he would pace the room. Turning off the main light and switching on the smaller lamps. I watched the way he felt at ease in his home, but there was a rigid mess in his step at a stranger being there. I closed my eyes and relaxed into the cool night. The wind softly whistling against the closed glass, making me glad i was inside under a heated blanket.

Tom opened the window and beckoned me to join him on the balcony. It was small, barely fit two people. In the middle taking up the already constricted space was a telescope. He made some adjustments, stationed it just right and told me to look. I saw the moon, bubbling balls of color in stars and constellations. He walked me through my questions and told me about the constellations he knew. I told him about the stories I knew about stats. He said it was an exceptionally clear night and we were lucky. I thought so too.

I fell asleep on the couch later in the night, when i woke up he asked me if i wanted an espresso. It was cold, the heating was low and i was cuddled up snug inside the blanket. He gave me some house slippers and began making me an espresso. I asked him if he had any honey. I told him it balances out the acidity in the coffee. So he mixed in a heaping teaspoon of honey each into two small cups of espresso and sat with me on the kitchen island as we drank it.

I left the country soon after that, we spoke from time to time on facebook. But it never amounted to anything. I never met a grasshopper after that, at least not one like him.
