Levi: "i'm playing this music in the car because i thought you'd need a soundtrack for your mood, which just so happens to be utter loathing and contempt for me. i'm so sorry i called the meeting without your consent. i fucked up. i didn't mean to undermine you. my phone passcode is your name backwards twice. i'll buy every album of female singer-songwriter you know just so you won't cry. no? oh. the fact that you're crying about a dead possum on the side of the road is totally understandable and definitely not weird. i love you."
Bee: "he hates me. we HATE each other."

✩👩‍🔬🧬Ali Hazelwood Stack:
It is so surreal to me that I got to me THE Ali Hazelwood while she was on her US book tour for “Love, Theoretically” and y’all, she is just the sweetest human being!!! She gave me a friendship bracelet 😭 and during the signing, I had the chance to give her this Aliverse sweatshirt my sister and I made.
Her books mean the absolute world to me because I feel more connected to my sister, who is studying neuroscience, through them. Ali writes in a way that makes the world of STEM easier for me to understand and for that, I will be forever grateful.
I absolutely LOVED “Love, Theoretically,” so make sure to watch this space for my review later this week 👀 It might just be my favorite Ali Hazelwood book yet! What is your favorite book from the Aliverse?

Couples by Ali Hazelwood: Bee Königswasser and Levi Ward - Love On the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
“Levi, this was never meant to . . . I’m just trying to be honest.” “Honest.” He lets out a noiseless, bitter laugh; stares at the hummingbird feeder, his tongue roaming the inside of his cheek. “Honesty. You want some honesty?” “Yes. I just want to be as honest as possible—”
“Here’s the honesty: I’m in love with you. But that’s not news. Not to me, and not to you, I don’t think. Not if you’re honest with yourself—which you say you are, right?” My eyes widen. He powers on, ruthless, merciless. Levi Ward: force of nature. Sucking the air out of my lungs. “Here’s something else that’s honest: you’re in love with me, too.” “Levi.” I shake my head, panic licking up my spine. “I—”

I’m so obsessed with Love on the brain by Ali Hazelwood
I read it every few weeks and every single time I cannot stop myself from completely falling for Levi. Levi IS the blue print
Just every single thing he does and says is so perfect
Again I cannot express how all of the basic tropes in this book drive me insane.
Miscommunication BAM
Enemies to lovers BAM
He loved her all along BAM
They text each other but don’t know it’s them BAM
She has to sleep at his house because she lost her keys BAM
Forced proximity at work BAM
It’s just SO good

» Iғ Aʟɪ Hᴀᴢᴇʟᴡᴏᴏᴅ Nᴏᴠᴇʟs Wᴇʀᴇ K-ᴅʀᴀᴍᴀs [3/5]
“Science is reliable in its variability. Science does whatever the fuck it wants. God, I love science...The real villain is love: an unstable isotope, constantly undergoing spontaneous nuclear decay. And it will forever go unpunished.”
[ love on the brain · ali hazelwood ]
Like an avenging, purple-haired Jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do? If NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—Marie would accept without hesitation. Duh. But the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with Levi Ward.
Sure, Levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. And sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. But Levi made his feelings toward Bee very clear in grad school—archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away.
Now, her equipment is missing, the staff is ignoring her, and Bee finds her floundering career in somewhat of a pickle. Perhaps it’s her occipital cortex playing tricks on her, but Bee could swear she can see Levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas…devouring her with those eyes. And the possibilities have all her neurons firing. But when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there’s only one question that matters: What will Bee Königswasser do?

Look who just woke up- is that OLIVIA HOLT? No, I must have been mistaken, that’s BEE KÖNIGSWASSER from LOVE ON THE BRAIN . I heard they are 25 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, she still gives off a PURPLE HAIR, NASA T-SHIRTS, SEARCHING FOR VEGAN OPTIONS, WORKING HARD & CREATING FRIENDSHIP WITH CATS impression. In Sydney, they work as a/an SCIENTIST. They’re known to be quite INTELLIGENT & INQUISITIVE, but have a tendency to be ANGRY & JUDGEMENTAL on their bad days. (amber)

Oh my, she even has purple hair just like Bee Konigswasser! From Love on the Brain
Over the years Mattel has really tried to push that Barbie "Can Be Anything" -- there's multiple doll lines with that very branding. But there's been a few missteps over the years when it comes to STEM - "math class is tough", the computer engineer Barbie who needed help from her male colleagues, and so on.
So I thought I'd go back and look at some of the early Barbie STEM careers, to see how she has evolved over the years.
Depending on how you define STEM, the first STEM Barbie may have been Nurse Barbie in 1961. This is a tricky one because I cannot think of a reason why nursing would not be considered a STEM field, except for the fact that it has historically been a female-dominated field since before there was a bigger push for women in STEM. Sexism in action, really. Anyway, here's Nurse Barbie (1961).

The collectors edition rerelease in 2009 shows the same outfit on an actual Barbie.
The earliest STEM career that seems completely unambiguous as a STEM Barbie was astronaut, back in 1965 - making Barbie technically the first American to walk on the moon, but who's counting?

Naturally this was also historic enough to see a rerelease in the My Favorite Career series in 2009.
Barbie explored other fields of medicine in 1973 as Doctor Barbie - who appears to be wearing a surgical gown.

(Note this is also a rerelease, as I can't find a picture of the original 1973 Barbie.)
There were a few more over the years after this but it wasn't really until the 2000s that she started regularly seeing STEM careers in her history. (There are several from the 90s - but the 2000s is really when it began to pick up steam.)
One of my favourites among the more recent is Astrophysicist Barbie, released as a tie-in with National Geographic.

here’s what my ships are up to today:
eddie is teaching chrissy how to play the new zombie video game he got. she’s just smashing buttons left and right and hoping for the best. eddie is entranced. he’s never been more in love
rey and ben are fucking. i don’t have any artful prose or dreamy imagery. he’s pressing her so hard into the sheets that she’s seeing stars. the end.
adam and olive are in Vegas for a science conference. they hit up a casino with their friends afterward and olive found out adam is naturally lucky because he’s made $500 off a $20 bill. Olive teases him that he doesn’t need it and he just shrugs and tells her it’s going toward his Starbucks budget for her.
levi and bee are finishing up a busy day at work and then heading to the airport to go to Disneyland. bee really doesn’t like traveling but the tickets were a gift from someone at NASA and levi really wanted to go. he managed to entice bee by telling her he’d buy her a lightsaber at galaxy’s edge.
ty for coming to my ted talk 🫶🏻

✩💗🧠Review:
Hazelwood’s sequel “Love on the Brain” brings on the heat!
Like her debut novel, Hazelwood’s newest release is told from the point-of-view of a woman in STEM: Dr. Bee Königswasser. Bee is a neuroscientist that is invited to co-lead the project of her dreams. There is only one catch, she has to work alongside Levi Ward, her arch nemesis from grad school. The longer the two are forced to work in proximity to each other, the more Bee begins to realize that Levi isn’t the man she thought he was.
Hazelwood’s use of the enemies-to-lovers and workplace romance tropes are absolutely delightful.
I also enjoyed getting a glimpse into the love interest’s perspective for the first time, which is what makes “Love on the Brain” different from the rest of Hazelwood’s other works. Through direct messages written by Levi on his Twitter account, the reader is able to gain insight into his character. He bares his heart to Bee and is not afraid to be vulnerable, which is something that I admire.
With Levi at her side, Bee finds the strength to learn how to love again after a life of instability. The two push each other to grow as individuals and that is what makes their connection so electric on the page.
While the writing is formulaic at times and does not wildly differ from her previous publications, “Love on the Brain” is an addicting read that leaves no romance reader wanting.
➤ 4 stars
