The Honest Woodcutter

Once upon a time, a poor woodcutter was chopping wood near a river. Suddenly, his axe slipped from his hands and fell into the water. He sat down, saddened, as he couldn’t afford a new one.

A fairy appeared and asked, “Why are you sad?” The woodcutter explained his plight. The fairy dived into the river and brought out a golden axe. “Is this yours?” she asked.

The woodcutter shook his head. “No, mine was an old iron axe.”

The fairy smiled and brought out a silver axe. “Is this yours?” she asked again.

The woodcutter replied, “No, mine is plain and iron.”

Finally, the fairy brought out his old iron axe. The woodcutter’s face lit up, and he said, “Yes, this is mine!”

Impressed by his honesty, the fairy rewarded him with all three axes.

Moral: Honesty is always rewarded.
