percahlia with 14?? 👀👀👀 (ps. hello friend, I've missed you!)
14. "You ever lie to me again and we're done." it's good to be back!!
It's a transition, to say the least. One day they're part of a traveling, traipsing troupe of adventurers, tied more to each other than to any one place, a trauma-bonded pack of stray cats, and the next they're a couple, living in a castle that does not much move from the spot its in, with responsibility to people they do not know and who do not know them. The castle is far larger than any accommodation they've enjoyed while out being heroes of the realm, and yet somehow they feel more on each other's toes here than they did crammed into some shitty upper room of an tavern with more bedbugs than patrons. Some days, Vex wishes she's had Keyleth's druidic shapechanging abilities, if only to swoop out one of these high windows and fly away, escape it all for a while.
But she can't tell Percy that. She can't have him thinking that she regrets this, regrets him, regrets Whitestone, because she doesn't. Not really. Not the clothes, for sure, or the big comfy bed, or the food, gods, the food—and obviously not him either. Waking up next to him every morning is a dream she'd never have let herself have as a child—but does he have to breathe so hard in his sleep?
She has a secretary, some nervous, flittering young thing who seems to think that Vex shares a temper with the castle's previous lady, which she doesn't. She tells the girl to let the lord know that she won't be making it to their scheduled meeting with the stonemasons regarding the upgrades to Dawnfather Square. In response to the tremulous why, Vex says, "I've been asked to sit with the housekeeping staff, to ensure that everything is in place for next week's guests."
This, of course, is a lie. Vex knows it, and she can see by the terror in her secretary's face that she knows it, too, but she sends her off anyway, hoping her fear doesn't rat Vex out. Once she's free, Vex strips down and changes into her old adventuring gear, a little tighter than it used to be, thanks to a steady diet of actual nutrition. With steps so quiet they'd do her brother proud, she slips through the halls and out a side door from the kitchens, darting across the lawns in the early morning haze. In less than a minute, she's in the cover of the Parchwood, and finally, she can breathe again.
She's aimless, wandering more than walking, and every shot she takes at some bird or scurrying thing is embarrassingly bad. Whatever. It's just good to be back in the real world again, amongst the trees and the leaf litter and the creatures who don't shove their cold, bony feet beneath her shins at night. She feels alive out here, more than she ever could in a castle of stone and glass, no matter how much she loves the life of luxury.
Eventually, her stomach rumbles, and she hasn't shot anything worth dressing and cooking out here, so she trudges back, caked with mud and grinning. She enters the castle the same way she left, flags down a kitchen girl to have a plate sent up to her rooms, and then makes her way up, looking forward to a hot bath and a good meal.
He's waiting by the bed when she enters. The grin slides away from her face as they stare at each other, the room cold but her face hot. She feels it rising in her, the guilt, the resentment, the urge to destroy. She wants him to say something, wants to cut him off before he can.
"Seems the housekeepers did a number on you."
In an instant she feels small. He's never made her feel small before, but under his withering glare, she could be any one of his subjects, some farmgirl asking too much of her liege lord. She juts her chin out. "There was a change of plans."
"You lied to me."
"Yes."
The silence rings. She searches his face, looks for some kind of sign of weakness, of melting. He is as resolute as the Sun Tree, as the stones of his family home. Fine. Let him be mad. He can't control her.
He steps forward, slow, careful steps that echo off the floors. When he is just a few feet from her, he says quietly, "You ever lie to me again and we're done."
The floor drops out from under her, and he's gone. She is alone in this great big room, surrounding by her fancy clothes and the softest bed she's ever touched. Her throat is hot and thick, but she is not going to cry. She just stands, silently staring at the spot he just left, never having felt less like a hero in her entire life.

How to Protect Yourself from Bedbugs While Traveling: A Comprehensive Guide
Traveling and vacations are exciting opportunities to explore new places and relax, but they can also bring the unwelcome risk of bedbugs. These tiny pests can easily hitch a ride on your luggage and belongings, leading to infestations that are difficult and costly to eliminate. To help you enjoy your travels without worry, here's a comprehensive guide on how to prevent bedbugs from coming home with you.
Understanding Bedbugs
Bedbugs are small, wingless insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. They are nocturnal and often hide in cracks and crevices, making them difficult to spot. Despite their name, bedbugs can be found not only in beds but also in furniture, luggage, and clothing. They are excellent hitchhikers and can quickly spread from one location to another.
Precautions to Take Before Your Trip
1. Research Your Accommodations:
  - Before booking a hotel or vacation rental, check reviews and bedbug reports online. Websites like Bedbug Registry can provide information on recent infestations.
   - Choose accommodations with a good reputation for cleanliness and pest control.
2. Pack Smart:
   - Use hard-sided luggage, as bedbugs find it harder to cling to smooth surfaces.
   - Pack clothes in sealable plastic bags to prevent bedbugs from getting in.
Inspecting Your Hotel Room
When you arrive at your accommodation, follow these steps to inspect the room for bedbugs:
1. Leave Your Luggage Outside:
   - Before bringing your luggage inside, leave it in the bathroom or a tiled area, as bedbugs are less likely to be found there.
2. Check the Bed:
   - Pull back the bed linens and inspect the mattress seams, particularly at the corners. Look for signs of bedbugs, such as small brown or reddish spots (excrement) or shed skins.
   - Check the headboard and bed frame, as bedbugs often hide in these areas during the day.
3. Inspect Furniture and Other Areas:
   - Check upholstered furniture, curtains, and drawers. Bedbugs can hide in any small crevice.
   - Use a flashlight to inspect dark areas where bedbugs might be hiding.
4. Use a Luggage Rack:
   - Keep your luggage off the floor and bed by using a luggage rack. Ensure it is placed away from walls and other furniture.
Precautions During Your Stay
1. Keep Luggage Closed:
   - Always keep your luggage zipped or sealed, and store it away from the bed.
2. Hang Clothes:
   - If possible, hang clothes rather than leaving them on furniture. Bedbugs are less likely to infest items hanging in open spaces.
What to Do When You Return Home
Even with careful inspection, bedbugs can sometimes make it back home with you. Here’s how to minimize the risk:
1. Inspect Your Luggage:
   - Before bringing your luggage inside, inspect it carefully. Pay attention to seams, zippers, and pockets.
2. Unpack in a Safe Area:
   - Unpack your luggage in a garage or laundry room. Immediately wash all clothes in hot water and dry them on the highest heat setting.
3. Vacuum and Clean:
   - Vacuum your luggage and any areas where it was stored. Dispose of the vacuum bag or empty the canister into a sealed bag and throw it away.
4. Monitor for Signs of Infestation:
   - Over the next few weeks, keep an eye out for signs of bedbugs in your home, such as small bites on your skin or dark spots on bedding. If you suspect an infestation, contact a professional pest control service immediately.
Final Thoughts
Bedbugs are an unpleasant but manageable risk when traveling. By taking these precautions and staying vigilant, you can significantly reduce the chances of bringing these pests home with you. Enjoy your travels with peace of mind, knowing you’re well-prepared to keep bedbugs at bay.

13 days...
Yesterday was good, we talked in the morning, and I had a productive-ish conversation with him about the game plan for the move, planned the next few days, and laid out my expectations for him if he wanted my help. I even set the boundaries regarding what I'm willing to help with and when he needs to accomplish certain things in order to receive my help a I don't want everything to be a scramble at the last minute.
I got the kids working on their stuff while I worked on my first client website. It felt wonderful to make such great progress on it. It still needs some tweaks, but it's mostly done. Everyone seems to like it, and it's bolstering my confidence. Soon, we'll be offering them as a regular service to our customers! I'm excited to build out ours and mine after this! I'm even more excited to work on them next to you! You've also given me a client whose logo I designed to manage their social media. It's starting to feel real.
We talked on your lunch and on your way home. The level of contact is such a comfort while I'm doing so much, and my stress levels are so high. It helps me more than I can express. We talked a bit about painting my apartment, I'm so excited I can! Together, we'll make that place a sanctuary, a place of peace and relaxation with beautiful, stimulating art, an artist's haven, a retreat from the world where we can both relax and rejuvenate. I sent you a picture of my dream bedroom, and you said we could recreate it. The fact that I'm not going to be stuck in a sea of beige, horribly textured walls is already such a big thing for me, but that you like and are willing to help make those dreams a reality... you don't know what it means to me.
After the kids went to bed, I started the daunting task of going through the photos from the show last weekend. There's so many good ones, I'm excited to work on the editing. I don't know how on earth I'm gonna pick 2 as a teaser, but I will do as you say. Today, I'm also going to spend some time helping the kids pack and go through their stuff and try to list a few things for sale. And I'll work on some of the edits to the website, having gotten good feedback from your other designer.
This morning, I've already gotten to talk with you for a bit, ordered the kids their travel kits, and made a short list of things for him to pick up to help keep them occupied on their trip. I talked briefly with him about the things I want him to do today, and he copped a pretty big attitude about it. I reminded him that I don't have to be doing any of this, that he should be grateful I'm getting them stuff to make the trip easier and helping them sort and pack their things. I need to get through some boxes that never got unpacked in their room and see if my daughter's dolls are in there. He's pretty sure he threw them away, using the bedbug excuse he's so fond of. She's very upset about them potentially being gone, and I told her if they are, we'd go get her a new one.
I'm going to try and nap a bit at some point, I didn't sleep hardly at all last night, woke at one point in a full panic attack. I don't even remember what I dreamt about, but it has me feeling drained regardless. Maybe I'll crash out for an hour while you're in your meeting before getting my day really started.
As always, thank you for all the things you do for me. You're amazing.

We’re in the small path of area that got the total solar eclipse. We’re near the Great Lakes and it’s always overcast here. So I’ve been kind of living in disbelief the last month or so as every hotel and motel were packed with “out of towners.” The local roach motel got up to $500/ night the last I saw. People were flying in and driving in, and I was like….”WHY?” We are always overcast. No kidding. A few years ago we only had like 48 hours of direct sunlight in the previous year.
Everyone wanted to watch it from the beaches for some reason, so the town with the best beach near here (no, it’s not a very good beach) was literally closing down for the eclipse. Highways have signs saying things like “Today is the Solar Eclipse. Expect delays.” Or “It is illegal to stop on the bridge.” There are cars everywhere with out-of-state plates. It’s bizarre. I have been so confused about this. People all tell me, “what are you going to say if it’s perfectly clear?” It’s not. It won’t! We are always overcast. So I went outside and stood around with the other idiots, and it was cool. I liked how it dimmed over quite awhile but once it actually got dark it was fast! It looked cool in a lot of ways, but I never got to see the eclipse the way it used to look on the show “Heroes”, but it was still cool. The local news station took a pic at totality. This is genuinely that picture.
Tumblr media
Please note, you can’t see much of anything. I find myself wondering what the person that spent $500 for the night and really only got a case of bedbugs as a result, what they might think, much less the people that paid up to $5K for an Air BnB for the week. I wonder, but I doubt I’ll ask because I know they can’t be happy. Can you imagine taking vacation time to travel north while it’s still cold in order to view an event you won’t be able to see? The funny part is that I didn’t hear of people going to Buffalo because it’s not as nice, and then I just saw this picture of totality from Buffalo.

Paris, the Capital of Bed Bugs?
Tumblr media
Bedbugs are not guests you want to sleep with, so what do you do when you’re travelling or you’ve invited them home when you bought that couch from Craigslist? The pandemic was a bad time for bedbugs. With increasing travels these days, it’s back to business so there are more bedbug reports than before. Paris is currently experiencing a bedbug infestation, but it is not the only city affected. The infestation has been widely reported in Paris, with increased sightings of the insects in homes, cinemas, trains, and even hospitals. The rise in travel and the increasing resistance of bedbugs to insecticides are some of the reasons behind the upsurge in bed-bug infestations in recent years. The bedbug infestation in Paris has caused concerns about the safety of traveling to and from Paris, especially with the looming Summer Olympics in less than a year. However, there is no guidance on the US government website to suggest that traveling to Paris is currently unsafe. Bedbugs are tiny, visible to the naked eye, and while they do breed very easily, they do not spread disease. These bugs have a life span of about a year or less, but can survive without feeding for 3 to 6 months. In cold weather, it’s been known that they can survive without feeding for up to 300 days! Beds are not the only places you need to be check for bedbugs. They love to hide in mattresses, curtains, floorboards, electrical sockets, and even behind wallpaper. Tourists can unwittingly pick up the pesky passengers in their suitcases from an infected hotel, then travel by metro or other public means and deposit the hitchhikers in the seats. Bedbugs feed on blood by biting people, creating wounds that can be itchy but rarely cause other health problems. Over the years, they have become increasingly resistant to insecticide and are notoriously difficult to get rid of. Despite their name, bedbugs can also be found in cabinets, sofas, seats, skirting boards, and other wooden fixtures. So the best way to deal with bedbugs is to wash your clothes and steam your shoes when you get home from a trip, or notice red bites on your skin. The two best ways to get rid of bedbugs is using diatomaceous earth powder in your home, and by killing bedbugs with heat over 50 degrees celsius. - This is one of the best videos we have seen that explains a lot about bedbugs. Precautions to take while travelling Bed bugs can be a problem when traveling, but there are precautions you can take to avoid them. Here are some tips you should know: - Use hard-cased luggage if possible. It is more difficult for bed bugs to attach to rigid materials than to fabric. - Pack your clothing in re-sealable plastic bags. Plastic bags are available in up to 22-gallon sizes in hardware and other stores. Bring extra bags in a variety of sizes for items you buy on your trip. - Pack a small, bright flashlight to inspect your room when you arrive. - Don’t spray insect repellent or other pesticides on your luggage or clothing. They aren’t effective against bed bugs, and they may pose health hazards. - Ask about bed bug policies when you make your reservations or check in. A good hotel won’t mind. - An adequate bed bug prevention and control program should include regular inspections and access to a professional pest control company – even if the hotel has never had bed bugs. - Learn to recognize bed bugs in all their life stages: eggs, nymphs, and adults. - Inspect your hotel room thoroughly upon arrival. Check the corners of the mattress, box spring, headboard, and furniture for signs of bed bugs, such as blood spots, fecal matter, or live bugs. - Keep your luggage off the floor and bed. Use a luggage rack or place your luggage in the bathroom. - Consider bagging your luggage in a plastic trash bag or protective cover while at the hotel to deter bed bugs from taking up residence. - When you return home, inspect your luggage before bringing it inside. Vacuum your suitcase thoroughly before storing it away. - Wash all your clothes in hot water and dry them on high heat after returning from a trip. - If you suspect that you have bed bugs in your home after traveling, contact a pest control professional for help. If you want to avoid heavy costs that can run into the thousands, try diatomaceous earth powder and spread a thin layer over surfaces that might attract bedbugs. When the powder gets onto the bedbugs, they spread them back in the nest and this kills the bug infestation in your home. How to treat bedbug bites Bed bug bites can cause skin irritation, sores, or itchiness, and can affect a person's sleep and increase the risk of a skin infection. Here are some ways to treat bed bug bites: At-home treatment: - Wash the bites with soap and water to help prevent a skin infection and reduce itchiness - Apply a cold compress to the bites to reduce swelling and itchiness - Apply an over-the-counter anti-itch cream or lotion to the bites - Take an oral antihistamine to reduce itching and burning Medical treatment: - If you have many bites, blisters, a skin infection, or an allergic skin reaction, see a dermatologist for treatment - Your dermatologist may prescribe a prescription antihistamine pill or liquid to help with itchiness, or a corticosteroid to apply to the bites - If your itching is severe and causes you extreme discomfort, your healthcare provider may prescribe a stronger steroid cream or recommend that you take an over-the-counter or prescription antihistamine medication It is important to avoid scratching bed bug bites as much as possible, as scratching can lead to skin tears and infections. To prevent bed bug bites, it is recommended to reduce clutter in your bedroom, use a protective cover on your mattress and box springs, and vacuum your bed and the area around it every day. If you suspect that you have a bed bug infestation, it is best to hire a professional exterminator who has experience with bed bugs. How long do bed bug bites last? Bed bug bites can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks to heal, depending on the person's sensitivity to the bites. - Bed bug bites can take up to 14 days to develop on the skin and approximately 14 days to heal - Most bites will heal within one to two weeks of appearing and not cause any long-term problems - Bed bug bites can last within a week or two for most people, but for those with stronger sensitivities to insect bites, it may take up to three weeks or longer to heal - Symptoms from bed bug bites manifest within hours to a few days after being bitten. - Bed bug bites can look like small red welts and are often clustered or form a line in a zigzag pattern - Bed bug bites can cause itchy red bumps, welts, blisters, and clustered bite marks or rash in various parts of the body - To treat bed bug bites, wash the bites with soap and water, apply a cold compress, and an over-the-counter anti-itch cream or lotion - For more severe cases, a dermatologist may prescribe a prescription antihistamine pill or liquid to help with itchiness, or a corticosteroid to apply to the bites
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have red bites but cannot find any bed bugs If you have bites but no signs of bed bugs, it is possible that the bites are from another insect or skin condition. - Bed bug bites tend to look similar to other insect bites, and it can be difficult to identify them without other signs of an infestation - Bed bug bites are usually very itchy and smaller than a quarter-inch across, and they often appear in a line or zigzag pattern of three or more bites - Bed bug bites can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks to heal, depending on the person's sensitivity to the bites - Other insects like spiders, chiggers, and mites are active at night and can cause itchy bites on the skin - Other skin conditions like heat rashes or allergic reactions can also cause itchy red spots on the skin If you suspect that you have bed bug bites but haven't noticed any signs of an infestation, it's possible that the bed bugs are hiding and can go unnoticed for a long time. If you are still unsure whether or not you have a bed bug infestation, call a pest control service. They can identify an infestation. What are some natural remedies for bed bug bites? Bed bug bites can cause skin irritation, sores, or itchiness, and can affect a person's sleep and increase the risk of a skin infection. Here are some natural remedies for bed bug bites: - Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera (either “fresh” or as a gel) works well against insect bites. The active substances and amino acids present in aloe vera can help relieve itching and burning - Lemon juice: Lemon juice is a natural astringent that can help reduce swelling and itchiness. Soak a cotton ball in the liquid and apply to the bites - Witch hazel: Witch hazel is a natural astringent that can help reduce swelling and itchiness. Soak a cotton ball in the liquid and apply to the bites - Baking soda & water: Create a thick paste with baking soda and water. Apply a heavy coat to the bites, let dry for an hour or more, and wash off with warm water - Toothpaste: The menthol contained in toothpaste works well as an anti-itch remedy. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the bites - Tea tree oil: Tea tree oil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities. Apply a mixture of a few drops of tea tree oil and carrier oil, like coconut oil, on the bite - Calamine lotion: Calamine lotion can help relieve itching and burning - Ice: Applying ice to the bites can help reduce swelling and itchiness - Oatmeal: Due to its anti-inflammatory qualities, oatmeal helps relieve irritated skin. Apply a paste made from a small amount of water and oatmeal to the bites It is important to note that while these natural remedies may alleviate symptoms, they are not a substitute for medical treatment if you have many bites, blisters, a skin infection, or an allergic skin reaction. If you are experiencing severe symptoms, consult a dermatologist or doctor for treatment. The information provided on this website is for general informational purposes only. It is not intended as medical advice and should not be relied upon as a substitute for consultations with qualified healthcare professionals. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified healthcare providers regarding any medical condition, diagnosis, or treatment options. Read the full article

A soft whimper escape your lips as you tilted your head back, feeling the kisses slowly move along your jaw and down your neck. Your hands tangled in his dark locks as you press your hips more against his, “Bucky…”
Bucky grins against your neck, nipping softly at your skin. The way his name rolls off your tongue makes him grip your hips tighter in his grasp, slowly starting to move your hips back and forth against his own. He knows exactly how to drive you wild. All his focus is on you that he didn’t even notice Sam approaching the truck from the house until he knocked on the window, causing both you and Bucky to jump slightly. Bucky pulls his lips away from your neck and rolls down the window with one hand, “Uh… Hi Sam…” He said with a small smile through the window as you nuzzle your face into his neck embarrassed.
Sam folds his arms at the two of you. He had suspected Bucky to have a girlfriend with how weird he’s been acting lately with his late night phone calls and random trips that lasted for days but he’s never been able to confirm it until now, seeing you straddling Bucky in the driver’s seat of the truck, “Why don’t you invite your friend inside for a drink? Would love to meet her.” He said with a small half smile, “Five minutes.”
Bucky watched Sam turn and walk towards the house for a moment before letting out a raspy chuckle, “I think we’re busted, sweetheart.” He murmurs out to you, gently rubbing a hand up your back.
You giggle softly and pull your head back to look into his eyes, biting your bottom lip at the sight of him. He was the most beautifully built man you had ever seen but you loved his eyes the most. They looked at you like you were his world and he would do anything to keep you safe, which you knew he would, “Well, you did bring me here to meet him anyway.” You say softly, lifting a hand to stroke along his cheek gently, “We just got a little distracted.”
Bucky grinned up at you. Every touch you gave him was like fire to his core, intoxicating him. He couldn’t get drunk but god damn, it sure felt like he was drunk on something when you looked at him like that and touched him so sweetly, “We better head in, otherwise I’m not gonna be able to keep my hands off ya.”
That’s how you ended up sitting by Bucky across the table from his friend Sam, drinking a beer as the two men awkwardly stared at each other as if trying to read each other’s minds. You cleared your throat and smiled, breaking the silence “It’s nice to meet you, Sam. You have a very lovely home.”
Sam looked over to you and smiled, “Thanks, it’s nice to finally meet you too. I knew Bucky was sneaking around for some reason.” He chuckled and shook his head, “So how long have you two been…”
“Sneaking around?” You ask with a small smile before looking over towards Bucky, “Uh, about four months?”
Bucky nods in agreement and moves one of his hands under the table to your thigh, giving it a soft squeeze. He knew you were nervous just by the way small red splotches started to appear on your neck.
Sam folds his arms and leans back in his chair, his eyes flickering between the two of you, “Four months, huh?” He asks, landing his eyes on Bucky who shifted a little in his chair, “That’s about the time you went to New Orleans… So how’d you two meet?”
You and Bucky look at each other with a small smile.
About Four Months Ago
‘Go explore the world. Live a little.’ Sam had said to Bucky, ‘You’re free now, Buck. Get out there.’
That is exactly how Bucky ended up Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the middle of Mardi Gras in a state of shock while two women had pulled up their shirts to flash him. He didn’t know what to do, they were staring at him like they expected something in return but he was just shocked at what was happening before him with wide eyes and lips parted slightly. He looked like a deer in the headlights except those headlights had nipples.
Luckily, you managed to see the whole ordeal and waltzed on over to the three, pulling some beads off from around your neck and passing them to the two women, “Beautiful ladies!” You tell them as they put the beads on, pulling their shirts back down and stumbling off down the street drunkly. You turn to look at the tall, dark haired man who seemed to relax a little after the women had left, “You aren’t from around here, are you?”
Bucky sighs and shoves his hands in his pockets, “That obvious, huh?” He asks with a small half smile, observing you as you stood in front of him. You had a friendly smile on your face and your neck had many different colored beads around it, “I’m not sure what exactly I stepped in to.”
You chuckle softly and smile at him, “Well, you sort of have this cute lost puppy thing going on. That and you looked like you were going to die from shock from being flashed.” You say, pulling a few strands of the beads from your neck and slowly dropping them over his head to dangle around his neck, “It’s Mardi Gras. Girls get a little crazy and there’s this thing where if they flash you, you give them beads. So here’s these just in case you get trapped by boobs again.”
Bucky blushed but let out a small chuckle, “Thanks for saving me, I guess.” He said before pulling a gloved hand of his pocket and outstretching it to you, “I’m Bucky.”
You smile and shake his hand, “Bucky. I’m guessing that’s not your real name?” You ask, narrowing your eyes a little at his cerulean ones, “I’m Y/N.”
Bucky nods, shoving his hand back in his pocket after you shook his hand, “Yeah, my real name is James.” He said sheepishly, his eyes glued to you, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Y/N.”
You nod, “Well, since you introduced yourself to me as Bucky first, that’s what I’ll call you.” You beamed at him before looking down the street, “The parade will start soon. We should probably get somewhere less crazy. Neither of us have enough beads for the amount of women that’ll be flashing us.” You chuckle, looping your arm around his and starting to walk him down the street, “So, where you from?”
Bucky keeps pace with you, following to wherever you were leading him as long as it was away from more drunk women, “Brooklyn originally but I’ve been staying in Delacroix with a friend.” He said down to you, watching your movements, “How about you?”
You nod as you listen, looking up and over to him as you weave through people, “I lived in Seattle until I turned twenty-four, then moved here. I didn’t do well with the cold and constant grey. I prefer my sunshine and jazz. Not to mention the history and culture here is very intriguing. I love it.”
Bucky nods as he keeps his eyes glued to your face, dodging people without even looking at them as you lead him down the street, “You live in this chaos?” He asks with an amused grin.
“I thrive in the chaos.” You giggle, “But it isn’t like this all the time. We always have tourists but Mardi Gras is the craziest two weeks out of the year.” You stopped in front of a small bar and looked up at him, “C’mon, we’ll be safe in here.” You say before pulling him inside. The front of the bar was packed but you weaved him towards the back and through an archway that said private to find a secondary, smaller bar and took a seat on one of the stools, “What brings you to New Orleans?”
Bucky followed you, weaving through the crowd of bodies into the less packed area before taking a seat on the stool next to you, “Well, I haven’t traveled much except when I’m… working and just finished up some of that work so I have a lot of time on my hands now.” He said softly, “My friend suggested I explore the world.”
“Sounds like a good friend.” You reply before reaching over the bar and grabbing two glasses and a bottle of whiskey, “You like whiskey?” You ask, looking back to him to see him nod with a sort of uneasy look as you reached over the bar. You chuckled softly, “Don’t worry. It’s not stealing. I work here and I’ll make sure to pay for it.” You told him, watching him relax a little as you poured some of the amber liquid into the glasses before setting the bottle onto the bar. You lifted your glass and held it out to him, “Well, cheers to good friends pushing you into the world of New Orleans so you could meet me.”
Bucky smiles and picks up his own glass in his leather gloved hand, cheering your glass before taking a sip of the whiskey. He smiled slightly as he watched you take a sip of yours, your nose crinkling at the burn in your throat. He thought it was cute.
You set the glass down on the bar and licks your lips before looking back to him, “What hotel are you staying at? Just so I can let you know if you need to check for bedbugs.” You giggle.
Bucky squinted his eyes slightly, he knew he forgot something. Sam had showed him how to look at hotels on his phone and how to pay for rooms but he never got around to it, “Uh… No where.” He replied, “I haven’t booked a room so I guess I don’t need to worry about bedbugs.”
You laugh slightly at his response, shaking your head, “Oh, Bucky. You’re never gonna get a room now.” You tell him, “All the hotels are probably booked since it’s the middle of Mardi Gras.” You bit your bottom lip softly as you looked at him, “You could stay with me if you’d like until we manage to find you a room. You don’t want to be wondering the street all night. Besides, that way I can give you the proper tour of New Orleans without the boobs.”
Bucky smiles over at you, thinking your suggestion over before something inside him told him to agree even though he was hesitant, “Alright. Thank you, doll.” He replies, his smile widening when he saw you blush slightly at the name.
After a few more drinks and shared laughs while you two got to know each other a little better, you lead Bucky back to your apartment after he went to his truck and grabbed a duffle bag with his belongings. You watched as he looked around at every detail in your apartment like he was studying his surroundings. After grabbing some pillows and a blanket for him on the couch, you shared a goodnight before going into your bedroom and falling asleep.
The next day, you took Bucky around New Orleans showing him all the sights and sharing the history about the town. He had a constant smile on his face as he listened to you speak about the history, nodding sometimes to let you know he was still actively listening to you. Although it seemed quick, Bucky was falling for you with every word that dripped from your mouth. Your voice quickly became his new favorite sound, especially when you would get lost in a ramble and then blush when you realized you were doing all the talking. The first day together was mostly just you showing him around and how to get back to your apartment in case he wanted to go out on his own.
The second day together, you took Bucky around to try all your favorite foods. You started with mimosas with chicken and waffles, laughing when Bucky made a bitter face at the orange juice with champagne, making a joke about he must be strictly a whiskey guy which made him smile. You took him to your favorite place to get beignets and when Bucky saw how much powdered sugar was on the pastry, he made a comment about having a heart attack that made you laugh. But beignets quickly became one of his favorite snacks, especially due to the fact you wiped some powdered sugar off his chin and he returned the favor when you got some on your nose. Your night finished up by ordering some take-out gumbo and sitting on the balcony of your apartment as you two ate, watching the people flood the streets as loud jazz music filled the air.
The third day, you took him to the French Quarter after another beignets stop. Bucky was a little hesitant when you told him there were a lot of psychics that do card readings, palm readings, and other things. He was especially hesitant when you told him that you two should stop to visit your favorite palm reader, telling him that she was freaky good. You offered to go first and Bucky watched the psychic intently as she held your palm in her hand. The psychic, named Iris, told you that you have a very bright future and that your person, whether it be a best friend or a lover, was closer than you thought. Then was Bucky’s turn. He hesitantly pulled off the glove from his right flesh hand and outstretched it to Iris who gently took it in her own, tracing the lines in his palm gently with one of her fingers, “You’ve been through a lot, James. Winter has not been kind to you.” The psychic told him, which shocked Bucky. He hadn’t told her his real name and the fact that she said ‘Winter hasn’t been kind to him’ was like saying Winter was a person. Which it was. It was the past version of him, “Your ghosts want you to know they forgive you, something about it not being your fault. They thank you for your amends.” He swallowed hard before she continued, “You’re on a good path, especially since you decided to come here.” She leans forward a little and hushed her voice so you wouldn’t hear as you looked at some crystals on the gift shop wall, “You’re guide is more important to you than you know. Keep your light close.” She said, nodding over to you before giving a soft smile to Bucky.
After you two left the psychic, Bucky was more quiet than usual since you’ve met him and you wondered what the psychic had told him. You bit your lip as the two of you walked in silence, counting the bricks on the floor to distract yourself from the silence. The sun had started to set when you made it back to your apartment. Bucky immediately went out onto the balcony without saying a word and you stood in the kitchen, pondering what possibly could’ve been said that seemed to close him off slightly from you. You grabbed two beers from your fridge and went out to stand beside him with a small smile, holding one out to him.
Bucky looked over at you as you came out, still pondering what the psychic said to him. The words she said had echoed in his mind since she said them. He took the beer from you with a small half smile and muttered out a soft, “Thanks.” He took the cap off and looked out into the streets, watching people flood them again as they did every night. After a few moments of silence and noticing you shift on your feet awkwardly he turned to look at you, “I’m sorry, doll.”
You swallowed hard as he finally spoke to you, turning to face him and putting on a small smile, “It’s alright, Bucky. I’m the one who should be sorry. You didn’t really want to go see Iris and I pushed you.” You said, leaning your elbows on the banister and looking down at the beer in your hands.
Bucky frowned a little as he watched your movements and listened to the apology that spewed from your lips, your tone almost sad for seeming to offend him. He held his beer on his left gloved hand and placed the other on your back gently, “Y/N, no need to apologize. It was… enlightening.” He said softly and offered a small half smile. And it was. Iris knew things about him she shouldn’t. She knew of his ghosts and his amends. But then she spoke about how important you would be to him, calling you his guide and his light and he wondered if it was fate that he met you, “I had a really good time with you. I’m sort of sad I gotta go back to Delacroix tomorrow.”
You smile over at him, “Me too. I’ll miss having someone to eat beignets with.” You said softly, looking back down at the people in the streets dancing to the loud music, “Good thing it isn’t too far away.”
Bucky kept glancing over at you from the corner of his eye. He honestly didn’t want to leave but if he didn’t, Sam would just come looking for him like the annoying friend he was. He swallowed hard before clearing his throat at an attempt to grab your attention, which he did and he felt nervous butterflies in his stomach as you met his gaze with those beautiful, shining eyes of yours, “Maybe I could come back next week?” He asks, “I mean… I’d like to eat more beignets with you.” He internally flinched at how he sounded before letting out a deep breath, “What I mean is that I would like to see you again… Take you out on a date.”
You smile over at him, turning your body to face his and bit your lip as you listened to him stammer over his words which made you giggle a bit with a small blush to your cheeks, “Now here I thought I was taking you out on mini-dates.” You teased with a smile before continuing, “I’d like that very much, Bucky. You know where to find me.” You said softly, reaching over and taking his hand in yours and together you silently watched the parade in the street while giving small squeezes to each other’s hands.
Present
Sam listened to the story and then held up his hand, “Wait… So you two met because you saved him from…”
“Boobs.” You finish with a chuckle, looking over at Bucky who had this look on his face like he was done with this conversation, a slight pink on his cheeks, “Yup. I saved him from boobs.”
Sam nodded slowly and looked over to Bucky with an amused grin, “So your little ‘escapes’ have been going to see the woman that saved you from boobs.” He said, holding back a laugh.
Bucky glared over at Sam, “It’s not like I was scared. I just didn’t know what to do. They kept staring at me like they earned something.” You and Sam both let out a chuckle which made Bucky look over at you with a half smile at the sound of your laughter. You laughing was his favorite sound, especially when it was because of him.
“The boobs kept staring at you or the women?” Sam asks with a laugh. That earned a groan and an eye roll from Bucky and a laugh from you. Sam folds his arms with the same grin on his lips, “Alright then. Well, we have a spare bedroom. You’re welcome anytime, Y/N. You’ll have to come to one of our cookouts.”
You smile and nod, “Perfect. I’ll bring the beignets.”

A Date with Destiny
John Constantine/Bruce Wayne
Part 1
Summary: After years of physically and mentally training abroad, Gotham’s missing young prince, Bruce Wayne is finally heading back home, but not before spending some months in London where he encounters the rugged and yet charming John Constantine.
The finishing line is in view. After years of being away, Bruce was finally heading home, and yet, he feels uneasy. Is he truly ready? Can he truly avenge his parents? Take down Gotham’s biggest crime families and restore Gotham’s good name? Or is it all for nothing? Is all this just some rich boy’s pipe dream to cope with the fact that his parents were murdered in front of him?
Alfred’s last words to him echo in his head, “Your parents would want you to be happy.” When was the last time he felt happy? All he can remember is training and studying. There was no time for childish games or making friends. Bruce had felt loneliness and pain but hardly any happiness. He was already in his twenties and yet hasn’t even had his first kiss though there were a few who he wanted to. There wasn’t enough time, there was never enough time to explore romance. By the time he had even realized his romantic feelings, his things were packed, and the plane tickets were bought for the next flight. No, there wasn’t time to be happy.
Bruce’s head was spinning. He wasn’t sure if it was jet lag or his anxiety. Either way, it was hard to focus.
“Sir? Sir?” a soft voice calls out snapping Bruce out of his paranoid thoughts, “Umm...yes?” he asks turning towards the voice. It was one of the flight attendants, not much older than himself. Pretty green eyes, straight brown hair brushed into a tight bun. She was pretty and from the blush, on her cheeks, it seemed that she found Bruce quite easy on the eyes as well. Sadly, Bruce wasn’t in the mood. Again, there wasn’t any time for such things.
“Umm...we landed sir. We need you to leave the plane,” She informs tugging on her uniform sleeves anxiously.
Bruce’s eyes widen as he realizes he was the only passenger left on the plane. How could he have not noticed that before?
“R-right...I’m sorry,” Bruce muttered unconsciously as he quickly gets up and grabs his suitcase. Traveling so much had made Bruce frugal. Only the necessities were packed. Two causal outfits to wear and one suit in case of a special occasion. Everything else was disregarded as unimportant and would be left behind.
Making his way out of the plane and airport made his head throb. So much noise, so many people, everything happening. It was an overwhelming chaos that makes one wonder if they were actually in hell. Bruce managed to make a quick escape through the swarm of people and cut through the noise to finally settle down in a cab.
It reeked of cigarettes, vomit, and liquor but at least it was quiet.
“Where are you heading to?” the driver asks as he lights a cigarette.
Bruce wrinkles his nose at the smell but does his best to stay polite “The Bulgari Hotel, please.”
The cabby whistles, “Pricey place. You royalty or somethin’?”
“Or something...” Bruce coldly answers being too exhausted for small talk. Alfred would have a fit if he ever found out but then again, he was an ocean away.
By the time Bruce made it to his room, he was too tired to do anything else other than sleep. Upon entering, he carelessly tossed his case aside and toed off his shoes before finally flopping on the silk-sheeted king-size bed.
Bruce moaned in ecstasy at the feeling of the soft cushion under him. It had been so long. For years he had to deal with lumpy old beds that reeked of dust and were, most likely than not, covered in bedbugs. And that’s when he did get a bed. More often than not, he would have to sleep on the floor and sometimes was given an old blanket. But that doesn’t matter now, he finally had a bed. A real soft and warm bed with freshly washed silk sheets. It was truly heaven.
Wrapping himself in those heavenly sheets, Bruce quickly falls asleep with the biggest smile on his face. Of course, like everything else, it didn’t last. His smile faded into whimpers.
It’s that night again. Two bangs. First was his father then his mother. There was so much blood. He wanted to run, to scream, but instead, he just stood there, frozen. There’s nothing he can do. He hears the shooter walk closer and cock his gun again. The man aims his gun at him, but he doesn’t shoot. Instead, he walks away. Why? Why did he walk away? Leaving a witness no less? Why? Why? Why?
Why did he have to be the one to live?
Bruce jolts awake in a panic. His heart hammered against his chest, his chest tightened, his body trembled, and beads of cold sweat ran down his face.
“I-I’m okay...I’m in London...in a hotel...tenth floor...room 345...” Bruce muttered to himself forcing himself to take deep breaths. He thought he’d be used to them by now, the nightmares. Back home, Alfred would always hold him. Squeeze him tightly as he listed off different items around his room. To ground him, to help him realize he wasn’t in a crime alley anymore, that he was safe. Alfred isn’t here now though. He was alone, in a strange place, in a strange bed, and even though he was a thousand miles away from that damned alleyway, he was still there, frozen and covered in his parent’s blood.
Unable to stay another second in the room, Bruce quickly put on his shoes and left to wander the streets of London.
He looked awful and disheveled. Nothing befitting the high standards of Gotham royalty. Not that it mattered here in London. He was a nobody here. Just another stranger on the street, hell, with how he looked some may think he was a drunkard or junkie.
Bruce mindlessly stumbled along the London streets. His whole body ached, his head was still throbbing, and it wasn’t until now that he realized that he was starving. When was the last time he ate?
Suddenly the smell of food caught his attention. Following the scent, he found himself in an old cramped pub filled to the brim with all types of people. Leather jackets, ripped jeans, colorful mohawks, and combat boots. All crammed into one location Bruce has never seen something like this before.
At the end of the pub was a small stage where an unknown band played. In center stage was the lead singer, a blonde guy with gelled-up hair, ripped jeans, a black leather choker, and a tee shirt with Mucus Membrane plastered on it. Next to him was the bassist and guitarist with a similar style and behind them was the keyboardist and drummer.
The lead singer’s voice was quite nice but other than that, the band was god awful. Even some of the crowd seemed to notice, the sober ones at least. Bruce paid it no mind though, instead, he made his way to the bar and ordered some fish n’ chips.
He sat there and waited for his food all while watching the band continue. Something was charming about them. It was obvious that they were attempting to make some sort of music but were falling short. It was more inspiring if anything.
“Here’s your food, sir,” the bartender says placing the food basket in front of him. Bruce’s mouth watered at just the sight. When was the last time he had eaten any sort of greasy food? 2? 4 years?
It was pure desperation that drove Bruce to just tear into the piece of fried fish. Alfred would have a heart attack seeing his appalling table manners, but he didn’t care. It was food. Greasy, fatty, junk food.
“Easy there, luv, you’ll choke eating like that.” A hoarse voice tells him. Looking up, Bruce comes face to face with no other than the lead singer of the band. Up close, it was obvious that he was around the same age as him though he was a few inches shorter than him. He was very handsome though.
Bruce slowly swallows his last bite, “Sorry, it’s been a while since I last ate.”
“Oh? Is that what you Americans are doing now? Starving yourselves before scarfing down some fish n’ chips in a rundown pub?” the singer chuckles before sitting beside him and extending his hand, “John Constantine.” he greets with a sly grin.
Bruce stares at his hand for a moment before wiping his hands clean with a napkin and shaking Constantine’s hand. It was shockingly warm and yet callus, very similar to his own but Bruce doubts John’s hands were due to rigorous training.
“I’m Bruce...Pennyworth...” he greets. The last thing he wants is the media to be dogging him besides, Alfred was practically a second father to him.
“Well, then Pennyworth. What brings you all the way over to good old London?” John asks swiping a chip out of Bruce’s basket.
“Vacation. My...father...says I should take some time off. To enjoy my youth so to speak...or what’s left of it. What about you? Why are you here?” Bruce asks watching John carefully.
John smirks at the question, “What do you mean? I’m from here.” Bruce could’ve sworn that his eyes sparkled in the low light.
“That’s not true. Your accent. It’s from Liverpool isn’t it?”
Constantine chuckles, “Handsome and smart. Quite the combination.” he says mischievously smiling as he slowly moves his foot up Bruce’s leg.
A shiver goes down Bruce’s spine. His cheeks heat up. Is he being flirted with? He wasn’t prepared for this and yet he didn’t dislike it.
John leans over and hovers his mouth over his ear. Bruce’s heart skips a beat, “How about we get some drinks?” he suggests. His hot breath tickled the hairs at the back of his neck. He smelt like cigarettes and strong liquor and yet there was also the scent of strong herbs and scented candles.
Bruce’s mouth was dry. The other’s scent was making him dizzy. Who the hell is this guy? How can he be reduced to this so quickly? How can he make him stay?
Finally finding the words to say, Bruce opens his mouth but is only interrupted by another man calling Constantine.
“Enough fooling around John! Time to go!” the man calls out.
John sighs and pulls away, “Alright, alright, I’m coming.” he grumbles before turning back to Bruce, “Maybe next time, Pennyworth.” he says before quickly leaving with his bandmates.
Bruce’s eyes follow Constantine out the door. His heart was still pounding. He can still feel his breath against his neck, what did that man do to him?

Twelve Apostles
https://www.grunge.com/158946/the-untold-truth-of-the-twelve-apostles/
Simon Peter the Rock
· Son of Jonah; called Kipha or Cephas by Jesus
· Briefly walks on water, cuts off someone’s ear to keep Jesus from getting arrested
· First pope for Catholics, first patriarch of Antioch for Eastern Orthodox church
· Extracanonical Acts of Peter shows Peter in battle with evil Simon Magus, being told by Jesus’ ghost to go to Rome, and was crucified upside down
o Upside down cross is now called cross of St Peter
Andrew the First Called
· Brother of Simon Peter; Andrew followed John the Baptist and was the first to recognise Jesus’ Divinity
· The one to find the child with the loaves and fishes for the feeding of the 5000
· Acts of Andrew tells us Andrew raises the dead, defeats entire armies on his own, escapes wild animals, performing abortion, summoning an earthquake
· According to tradition, he was crucified on an X-shaped cross, known as a St. Andrew's Cross, like the one found on the Scottish flag
James the Son of Thunder
· Together with John the son of Zebedee; sons of Thunder (relates to temper)
· James and John were also fishermen called by Jesus on the seashore
· The Acts of the Apostles records that King Herod Agrippa had James sworded to death, making him the first of the Twelve Apostles to be martyred.
· Secret Book of James àJesus reveals the secrets of salvation to James and Peter
John the Son of Thunder
· According to the tradition of many churches, John the Apostle is the same person as
o John the Evangelist (who wrote the Gospel of John),
o John the Presbyter (who [probably] wrote the three Epistles of John),
o John of Patmos (who wrote the Book of Revelation)
o Mysterious figure from the Gospel of John known as the Disciple Jesus Loved
§ However chance that they are all different people
· According to tradition, John was the youngest of the Twelve Apostles and managed to outlive all the others through a combination of his relative youth and also never being martyred
· The non-canonical Acts of John tell of how someone tried to poison John's wine, but he evaporated the poison by blessing his cup
o Frequently represented in art by John holding a cup with a snake in it.
· Raising a married couple from the dead, destroying an altar of Artemis with mind bullets, and commanding bedbugs to leave his mat until he's finished sleeping.
Philip the Dragonslayer
· Mentioned as being from Peter and Andrew's hometown; otherwise not noticeable
· The fourth-century Acts of Philip help to fill in some blanks
o Philip, together with his biological sister, Mariamne, and his spiritual brother Bartholomew, travels to Greece, Phrygia, and Syria
o While on these travels, he manages to convert a talking goat and a talking leopard to Christianity before killing a dragon.
· However, Philip converts the wife of the wrong magistrate, who has Philip and Bartholomew crucified on upside-down crosses à Bartholomew is released
Bartholomew the Questioner
· The Gospel of John never mentions a Bartholomew, but instead talks about a Nathanael, who many scholars think is the same person.
o Bartholomew is always paired with Philip in the first three Gospels, and John mentions Nathanael as Philip's friend that he introduces to Jesus
· The text The Questions of Bartholomew shows Bart as the only one of the Twelve Apostles willing to ask Jesus tough questions after his resurrection
o Answers involve Jesus peeling back the ground like a blanket to open a portal to Hell and summoning up Satan so Bartholomew can step on his neck
· Many different accounts of his death, but the best known has him being flayed alive by the King of Armenia, so he is typically depicted in art holding his own empty skin
Thomas the Unfaithful
· Thomas is also called by the Greek name Didymus; both names mean "twin," so we can reasonably infer that maybe he was a twin. Whose twin, however, is a mystery
· The notorious Gospel of Thomas and Infancy Gospel of Thomas
· Acts of Thomas à he travels to India and mentally commands a pack of dogs and a lion to eat a guy who slapped him, battles a dragon and several demons.
· Tradition also says that he baptized the Three Kings
· After converting the King of India by raising his brother from the dead, he was killed by being riddled with spheres
Matthew the Evangelist
· The Gospel of Matthew says he was a tax collector who quit his job in the middle of a shift when Jesus asked him to
· Matthew is believed to have been martyred, but there is no consensus on how or where
James the Just
· Also known as James the Less; son of Alphaeus
· Brother/cousin of Jesus
· The credited author of works as far ranging as the canonical Epistle of James and the Infancy Gospel of James, which tells the story of Mary's childhood up to the birth of Jesus at which a midwife's hand gets burned off testing to see if Mary is still a virgin.
· First head of the church in Jerusalem; crucified in Egypt
Jude the Obscure
· Also known as Thaddeus; may have been a brother or cousin of Jesus
· The confusion between Judas Thaddeus and Judas Iscariot has led to St. Jude's famous role as the patron of lost causes
o The idea is that Christians would be unlikely to pray to St. Jude for fear of accidentally praying to Judas Iscariot
· Jude and Bartholomew are both believed to have been the first to bring Christianity to Armenia, so they are patron saints of that country
· Acts of Simon and Jude instead pairs Jude with Simon the Zealot, and the two travel to Persia, where they were both martyred
o Jude is frequently depicted in art holding the axe that killed him.
Simon the Zealot
· Simon was a member of the first-century A.D. political movement known as the Zealots, who wanted to foment rebellion against the Roman occupiers of Judea.
· The problem is that this movement didn't arise for a couple of decades after the events of the Gospels à likely just was really religious
· He is said to have travelled to Persia with Jude, where he got sawed in half
Judas Iscariot
· Judas' motivation for betraying Jesus are not fully known
o Luke and John say he did it under the influence of Satan
o Modern interpreters believe that Judas was disappointed that Jesus was not a more militant political messiah
o Recently recovered Gospel of Judas claims that Judas was in fact Jesus' most loyal follower, and since Jesus' crucifixion was a necessary step toward salvation, Jesus actually asked Judas to betray him so his mission might be fulfilled
