Song Review: Tedeschi Trucks Band - “Beck’s Bolero” (Live)
Tedeschi Trucks Band are not a cover act, per se, but, man, can the group do covers.
Someone shot clandestine video of TTB performing “Beck’s Bolero” at the 2023 Peach Music Festival. And what the results lack in sound quality they exude in quality, quality.
The band - sans horns and choir (duh) - provide essential, powerful backing. But the success of this redux is down to Derek Trucks, who conjures the sprit of Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page while sounding exactly like Derek Trucks.
Clocking in at less than three minutes and closing the set, it was a masterful choice that left them wanting more both at the gig, Sound Bites presumes, and wherever they take in the video, as Sound Bites knows.
Grade card: Tedeschi Trucks Band - “Beck’s Bolero” (Live) - A

HOW THE NAME "LED ZEPPELIN" WAS CREATED
In May 1966, Keith Moon and The Who bassist John Entwistle recorded the instrumental Beck's Bolero with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jeff Beck.
The recording went very well and Page proposed the idea of starting a superband together. Moon said the group would crash like a lead baloon. Two years later, Page remembered that phrase and founded Led Zeppelin.
"It's a name that Keith Moon had mentioned in the past – Page said – he said 'Wouldn't it be fun to call a band Led Zeppelin?'. So I asked him if we could use that name. When we went to play in Scandinavia, we actually performed as the New Yardbirds, it was like a sort of invisibility cloak. Even in our first recordings we used this name because I didn't want anyone to find out the real name of the band until it was officially revealed."

Storia Di Musica #309 - Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin, 1969
Your Time Is Gonna Come è quasi corale, come la veloce How Many More Times.

HELLO???? JIMMY JUST RELEASED 'THE RAIN SONG' DEMO OUT OF THE BLUE????
youtube
From his website:
My original idea for the opening tracks for ‘Houses of the Holy’ was that a short overture would be a rousing instrumental introduction with layered electric guitars that would segue in to ’The Seasons’, later to be titled ‘The Rain Song’. Again there would be a contrasting acoustic guitar instrumental movement with melotron that could lead to the first vocal of the album and the first verse of the song.
‘The Seasons’ was a memo to myself as a reminder of the sequence of the song and various ideas I’d had for it in its embryonic stage. I’d worked on it over one evening at home. During the routining of the overture now titled ‘The Plumpton and Worcester Races’, the half time section was born and the overture shaped in to the song, ‘The Song Remains The Same’. These rehearsals were done in Puddle Town on the River Piddle in Dorset, UK.
The first set of recordings were done at Olympic Studios with George Chkiantz.
We then came to record at Stargroves, Sir Mick Jagger’s country home, and, like Headley Grange, with the Rolling Stones recording truck.
‘The Song Remains The Same’ was played on a Fender 12 string, the same one used on Becks Bolero, with my trusty Les Paul number 1 on overdubs in a standard turning. The ‘Rain Song’ was an unorthodox tuning on acoustic and electric guitars. On live shows, it became a work-out feature for the double neck.

She's getting there!
I know, but I already got hate for the fic, so I'm kinda cautious. Despite the content that can be classified as "I wanted to avoid this, but this is Uncle Ernie, this is impossible" it's a story I poured my heart in and it's really sweet, so I really hope you'll enjoy it!
Rick's mom rules! Haha, we have similar goals then, being a supportive mom is the best plan to be a mom! Excuse me, Rolling Stones didn't list Rick on their list of 100 Greatest Drummers? Pffff, they definitely put Phil Collins there, but not this amazing drummer 🙄
It is! Even the ones who were translating Jim's poetry to Polish gave their best. True, but tragedy happens in real life and we have to live with that somehow. You're welcome!
It's the sound of The Jam that does it for me - did I mention they have a good drummer? - it's more loud than The Clash and definitely gives that good punk energy. I listened to their first album and it's honestly banger after banger!
I like Rainbow, mostly their albums with Dio and the last one. Cozy is such a beast, "A Light in The Black" my beloved, 8 minutes of drumming *melting* All the songs you've mentioned are so good!
As for me I can say that I listen to Wings because of their chill vibe. I mean "Red Rose Speedway" is the peak and no on will change my opinion. Oh yes, Paul and Linda are so much relationship goals!
Ringo literally seemed to be overjoyed to play drums and in fact, he still is! He loves to play, when he uploads videos of announcements he usually starts them with a little drumming 💜 Get Back is literally: Paul, John, George: *arguing* Ringo: *chilling in the background*
The meme is amazing!!!
The Police's mvs are something else. Omg, I just checked the video to Walking on The Moon and it is the mv I saw with my dad after which we both said: Dad: The fuck they were doing? Me: The Police has one problem, they didn't know what to do with themselves on mvs
Your list of favorite songs by Pink Floyd is top tier. I only can't get into "Bike" I don't know, maybe it's too weird for me, but then again, I have a love-hate relationship with Pink Floyd's first album and I see that you like this album very much!
Oh yes, John Paul John is such a talented musician. I think he even contributed to "Beck's Bolero", wait I need to check this! *a few seconds later* YES, HE PLAYS ON THIS MASTERPIECE!
It really shows when you listen or watch to Zeppelin's live performances that John Bonham was THE drummer for all three of them. And honestly, bestie said the same the last time when she was watching Led Zeppelin's concert - poor girl, she watched the one where Phil Collins played with them.
OH CHRIST YES! BEST DRUM SOLO RECORDED ON ANY STUDIO ALBUM
About the bands you're asking about:
Simon and Garfunkel - I never considered listening to them, but whenever I hear their songs I find them very chill and somehow relaxing. I love that they mostly relay on guitar, not an electric one. I find it easier to listen to a band when they have acoustic or classic guitar, the sound of these two instruments is so lovely, almost like a nice xylophone
The Cure - this is the band I do not like. Neither the sound is speaking to me and the vocals well, not my cup of tea.
T. Rex - my mom loves this band and I hear it when she listens to them. Bolan had such a nice voice and some of their songs are really nice. The last time I heard them playing in our garden I caught myself smiling so perhaps I'll give their albums a listen one of these days!
Zombies - I didn't hear about them at all until now. I'm now listening to "She's Not There" and they have a very nice sound.
Rory Gallagher - I tend to hear about this one here and there, but as I look at the songs I think I didn't hear any as well. I just played "Tattoo'd Lady" and damn, the drummer is good 👀
Alright so now since I'm uneducated. What can you tell me about The Zombies and Rory Gallagher?
I'm already reading your fic, I'm on chapter 5. But I'll leave you my comments until I finish it!
"They definitely put Phil Collins there..." YES THEY DID, I don't remember which number they gave him, but I do remember that he was NOT in the top 10. OH LORD!!! That Zeppelin concert with Phil was a disaster.... I feel sorry for every person that was present at that concert. But, I have to say, Collins ATE when he made Tarzan and Bear Brother soundtracks.
That's it!! I'm going to start to fully listen to The Jam!!
Red Rose Speedway is on my list now
"They didn't know what to do with themselves on mvs" hahahhahahahahha, like in "So Lonely" video hahahhahah I love how at the beginning there's a Japanese man looking at them like "What the hell is wrong with them?" and then Stewart is playing his drumsticks on some jar jams hahahhaha.
Yeah, I love that first album mostly because of Syd hahahahaha and the cover album is one of my favorites. This is my interpretation of "The Bike", okay so...the song is based on how LSD was "discovered." The chemist that was working with all his chemistry things ingested a "small" amount of the drug to test it. Someone took him to his home (since he was starting to feel the effect) on a bike and this guy experienced the LSD on the ride and in his home hahahahhaha. So my guess (since that man wrote about his experience) is that Syd tried to recreate the LSD effect on music. That's why I, too, think the music is as weird as F.
The funny thing about Simon and Garfunkel is that their music is so chill, but they were never chill to each other. One time I told one of my friends that I was a "child of divorce" because of them hahahhaha they were like those couples that really need to go to therapy.
Your mom has great taste too. Marc, what a fashion icon!!!! I have this theory that Slash was inspired by Bolan in using a hat. "Get It On" is my favorite song from T.Rex....
Zombies is a band that I totally recommend. For what I know from them, they were one of the first bands that had keyboard solos. "Time Of The Season" is a good example of those solos. Colin Blunstone has a beautiful voice <3
I love that they didn't know how to name the band and choose the most random word/concept and most of them had a very vague idea of what it meant. Even funnier, the member that chose the name, chose it because he thought that it was a name that it was unlikely anyone else would have.
In my opinion, they were underappreciated by the public at that time, but at the same time, and in their own words, they left the music industry while it was still good for them.
RORY GALLAGHER, my man loved his guitar.
This man was so unproblematic. I haven't come across any articles or stories in which he has had some inappropriate behavior or rude attitude. Everyone talks fondly of him. He was a man on a mission. His mission was to write and play the guitar. I like to watch his presentations at Montreux (You can find them on YouTube). You can watch all the concentration and how he was so immersed in his guitar.
I know that everyone is: 1. Chuck Berry, 2. Jimmy Page, 3. Jimi Hendrix, But to me, it is: 1. Chuck Berry 2. Rory Gallagher, 3. Jimmy Page, 4. Jimi Hendrix
"Million Miles Away" is my favorite song by him.
Sometimes I want to indulge myself and write a Rory fic... but I don't know xD hahahhahaha
How was your weekend, what other artists do you like?
